Boston Belle Experiences
Seal and Birdwatching Cruise
Duration 5 hours
The programme of Seal and Birdwatching Cruises will take place in 2023, aboard the Boston Belle, sailing into The Wash and River Welland. The Wash is one of the UKs most important estuaries for wildlife. The coastline has some of the best saltmarsh and mudflats in the country supporting thousands of wildfowl and waders.
What's included?
On the cruises you see habitats from the seaward side and get up close to the birds. Most years we see over 100 species can be spotted, averaging about 60 species per cruise. Sightings of waders include Plovers, Dunlin, Knot, Redshank and Godwits. In addition birds-of-prey are often seen, plus wildfowl. Harbour Seals are often seen. The cruises provide interest to all, from the avid birder to anyone with a genuine interest in nature. Each cruise is led by local RSPB Volunteer guides who can help with bird identification as well as pointing out places of local interest.
Additional cost: Refreshments are available on board the Boston Belle (which also has a toilet).

Lincolnshire Boating and Sailing
There are some people who find getting on a boat and sailing relaxing. It offers a kind of escape from the hustle and bustle of life on land, while some, especially tourists, find it as a great way to see the sights.
Lincolnshire Waterways
Lincolnshire waterways offer boaters and visitors a means to get away from everyday life that sometimes chokes us up. The River Witham that links historic Lincoln with Boston runs 36 miles through a quiet Lincolnshire countryside. This river offers a lot of attractions such as Fiskerton Fen, a Natural Reserve, and Kirkstead Bridge, which offers access to Woodhall Spa. Woodhall Spa is an Edwardian spa town, which has aviation connections, and walking and cycling trails.
The Fossdyke Navigation, believed to be Britain’s oldest canal flows 11 miles from the River Trent and Torksey Lock. Fossdyke was built by the Romans and is a popular mooring spot with a small interpretation center and tearoom.
Sailing through Fossdyke will take boaters to the Cathedral city of Lincoln and Brayford Waterfront with its Lincoln Marina, which offers temporary and permanent moorings.
Boaters going through the center of Lincoln will arrive at the Glory Hole. This is a tunnel formed by an ancient, half-timbered building situated over the River Witham.
And there’s the new Fens Waterway Link, which goes through the great cathedral cities and Petersborough.
