Need a Laugh? These ‘Bored Teachers’ Are Hilarious
- Share article
Corrected : An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the location of the show. It took place at State College of Florida Bradenton.
“The pandemic made us brave,” said Briana Richardson, a middle school teacher from Mississippi.
When her principal caught her ordering food from DoorDash during class, Richardson’s first thought was: “I’m so scared right now. I’m going to get fired.”
“But then I was like, you know what, y’all ain’t got no teachers, what y’all going to do?”
Richardson’s take on the teaching shortage got an audience filled with tired, stressed, desperately-in-need of a laugh teachers roaring. Teachers looked at each other like Richardson had just granted them an epiphany.
Educators from all grade levels were gathered here in a packed auditorium at State College of Florida Bradenton for a unique teacher-led touring comedy show. And the sign at the ticket desk said it all: THIS. IS. SELF. CARE.
As the teacher-performers reminded their audience, finding unity in belly laughs may be the best kind of professional development—even if it is unpaid and after hours.
The show, which began on March 12, is the creation of Bored Teachers, an online platform full of memes, videos, and more about the trials and tribulations of the teaching profession by current and former teachers. The group’s first spring break comedy tour has stops across Florida and later throughout the Northeast.
The auditorium seats about 830, but on Monday it was packed with teachers from all grade levels.
“Where do you want to sit?” an audience member was overhead asking another.
“Girl, I’m just here for a good time” said her companion.
As teacher stress levels reach all-time highs, the tour offers teachers an opportunity to come together and laugh so hard they cry as they realize they’re not alone in facing challenges on the job, especially after the last two and more years of pandemic teaching, said James Tarantino, a former teacher and one of the founders of Bored Teachers.
The demand online from teachers across the country has already led to plans for a summer cross-country tour.
“I think the response just tells you how much teachers need this time together to laugh,” said Jess Smith , a former 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade teacher from New Hampshire who now works full time with Bored Teachers and is one of the comedians on tour.
At the March 14 show here, Smith was joined by current and former teachers on stage cracking jokes that covered cringe-worthy parent-teacher conferences, stress-inducing classroom observations by administrators, chaotic middle school students, teacher shortages , and more.
As performer and host K.C. Mack , a special education teacher from Texas, put it: “This school year…we just need prayer.”
Throughout the sets, teachers, their spouses, and general audience members alike would blurt out refrains such as “that’s me,” or “amen” and “yes” as they connected with the comedic personal anecdotes.
‘You got a pulse?’
Richardson, also known online as Honest Teacher Vibes , continued her monologue about teacher shortages.
“Y’all got substitute teachers?” she asked the crowd. A loud chorus replied “No!”
“I know beggars can’t be choosers,” she said, “but some of these people ain’t got no place substitute teaching. They’ll just pull people off the street like, hey, you got a pulse? OK, you’re good.”
Smith shared an anecdote of when she taught middle school and told her class she was pregnant. After her announcement, she returned to her desk and a student came up to her. She thought he was going to congratulate her. Instead, he whispered conspiratorially: “I know what you did.”
Teachers covered their faces in second-hand embarrassment.

Amid the punchlines (and audience dance-offs), the comedians addressed stressors that each new school year brings, such as shifting rules made particularly complicated in the last few years. But the focus would quickly return to high-energy laughter.
Performer and former teacher Devin Siebold of Florida, for instance, homed in on the local crowd by referencing a state initiative allowing certain school staff and teachers to be armed.
“Remember when they tried to arm us? They were trying to give teachers guns? I’m not anti-gun, but I’ll tell you right now I’m anti-coworker,” he said. “There are people I worked with I wouldn’t trust with a stapler.”
Hilariously, or perhaps distressingly, audience members pointed at one another knowingly.
Audrey Benitez, a middle school teacher in attendance, said it was good to get to laugh during spring break. She hopes more teachers across the country get to share in the experience.
As a group of teachers gathered outside, one said “That was fun. It was less raunchy than I expected.”
Mary Singleton, a pre-K teacher in the audience, called it a well-deserved break.
“It needs to be eight hours long like a real PD session,” she said.

Lake county news-sun | bored teachers comedy tour features relatable content for anyone who has been in a school.
Bored Teachers is an online platform filled with funny and relatable videos and other resources for teachers. The brand recently created a tour with several of its popular teacher personalities and hit the road.
The tour stops at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan and at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Riddles Comedy Club in Alsip.
Included on the tour are Jess Smith known online as “Miss Smith,” Devin Siebold — “The Sarcastic Classroom,” Vinny Thomas — “Mr. Thomas English” and host K.C. Mack.
Siebold is a former high school social studies from Florida. He taught for 13 years before leaving to realize his dream of making a living through stand-up comedy and online content creation, he said.
“I was able to make enough money to leave teaching about five years ago, but I stayed on because it was really a passion of mine,” he said. “Lately, it’s become so stressful and politicized that I decided to just do what I love, which is comedy and content creation.”
He was the first comic Bored Teachers signed.
“I created a few videos for them and they went pretty mega-viral. Most of the videos I did got between 10 and 20 million views,” he said. “I told (them) I thought a teacher tour would be fantastic. We discussed it literally about seven or eight years ago.”
The idea took some time to come to fruition and in the meantime, the pandemic and virtual teaching added even more comedy fodder. With the rise of the TikTok app, teachers had a new, easy-accessible platform to create and find comedy.
“It’s been unbelievable. We’ve sold out so many venues and met thousands of teachers and they say it’s just what they need,” Siebold said. “These are all the teachers they know from videos online and they’re either TikTok famous or YouTube famous but they’re actual comedians too. It’s always a surprise when people show up and they’re like, ‘Well, they’re funny on TikTok, we don’t know how funny they will be in person.’ And then their faces hurt when they leave from laughing so hard.”
Siebold won the Boston World Series of Comedy, appeared on “Laughs” on Fox and was named 2015 iHeartMedia Monster’s in the Morning Comedian of the Year. Unlike others on the tour, he went from the stand-up comedy world to making online content. Those who came from the viral video world needed some coaching to make the transition to the stage, he said.
“It’s been seamless,” he said.
The teachers on tour have their own niches: Siebold taught high school, Thomas taught middle school English, Smith teaches elementary school and Mack teaches special education.
“We all have our own individual stories,” he said. “It’s such an eclectic mix of all the teachers we’re representing. It’s funny stories about the things we see in class to dealing with parents to co-workers that might lose it. We have so much fun up there — we have so many ‘Oh my gosh, that happens to me too’ moments.”
Audiences tell them over and over how much they need to the night of laughter, he said.
“It’s been so stressful being a teacher lately. When people leave, they’re like, ‘I can’t tell you how great it feels to be seen,'” he said. “To know that all the craziness is not just happening to them. To be able to laugh it off and de-stress.”
Audiences should prepare for two hours of nonstop laughter, he said.
“I’m not even being biased because I’m in it, these are some of the funniest jokes and stories,” he said. “I’ve been doing comedy for 10 years and beginning to end, this is one of the best shows they can get, hands down. We have a lot of teachers who bring out their husbands or their wives and they leave going, ‘That was a thousand times better than I could’ve anticipated.’ It’s really just a night of laughter.”

Breaking news, chicago teachers union’s $50b demands include pay hikes, abortions, and migrant accommodations — at $2k per migrant.
Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is negotiating a new contract with the public schools system and is understood to be calling for an extra $50 billion to pay for wage hikes as well as other demands such as fully paid abortions for its members, new migrant services and facilities and a host of LGBT-related requirements and training in schools.
To put the figure into context, the total base tax receipts for the state of Illinois last year were $50.7 billion.
The incredible demands are being made despite its members delivering underwhelming results for its students, with only 21 percent of the city’s eighth graders being proficient readers, according to the last Nation’s Report Card, which provides national results about students’ performance.
The union’s demands have not been made public but a leaked document sheds light on the eye-popping demands.
Union President Stacy Davis Gates’ audacious plan calls for members to bank at least 9% wage increases each year through fiscal year 2028.
The average salary of a teacher in Chicago Public Schools is $93,182, according to research by the Illinois Policy Institute, a conservative nonprofit think tank. Therefore, the average teacher’s pay will increase by half to $144,620 in the 2027-2028 school year, it says.
That figure would equate to more than double the median household income in Chicago, according to Census Bureau statistics.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the CPS budget will exceed $9 billion this year, up nearly 30% from $7.4 billion just five years ago. Much of that increase is reflected in teacher salaries, which are among the highest of any big-city teachers in the country, the
Last school year, the district spent more than $21,000 per student, far above the national average of $14,347, according to census data.
Gates’ plan also calls for teachers and counselors to be paid a stipend of $1,000 per student per semester when they are assigned a number of students above contractual limits and a retirement bonus of $2,500 for employees with more than 30 years of service.
“We are asking you to give us an opportunity to tell our story,” Gates said in a speech in March referring to the union’s plans. “It will cost $50 billion and three cents… yes it will, and so what, that’s audacity.”
While the figure might seem far-fetched, the union holds tremendous sway in city politics with deep ties to Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Johnson, a former CTU legislative coordinator who was put forward by the union to run for mayor. As of June 30, 2023, CTU had funneled more than $2.6 million into Johnson’s campaign while he received more than $6 million from teachers unions altogether, according to the Illinois Policy Institute.
Meanwhile, Davis herself has come under fire for sending her son to a private school after calling school choice racist.

Never miss a story.
The leaked demands also address “disparities” in health care with 100% coverage benefits for abortion care, 100% coverage benefits for fertility, including full coverage for storage of embryos and any other frozen storage needs.
But the union also wants more taxpayers’ funds to go to migrants in its far-reaching plan – earmarking $2,000 to be given to each migrant to help with academics, transportation and mental health counseling.
The union also wants each of the 646 public schools to have a “newcomer liaison” for new students as well as migrant students and unused school facilities to be converted into housing accommodation for migrants.
There is also a whole host of other social justice provisions the union wants, including making sure workers and educators are trained annually on LGBTQ+ issues as a qualification in their job description.
The union also wants to mandate that every school in the district has at least one gender-neutral bathroom.
Additionally, it wants the board to adopt policies that would prohibit any member from being compelled to tell parents when a student rejects his or her sex.
Mailee Smith, senior director of labor policy at the Illinois Policy Institute, has blasted Davis’ demands and said that Mayor Johnson should recuse himself from contract negotiations.
“These demands read more like a political agenda than a serious contract intent on supporting teachers’ wages and benefits, and promoting the education of Chicago students,” Smith said in a statement last month.
“These demands are far outside the scope of traditional bargaining, putting taxpayer dollars on the line in pursuit of more union power and social activism.”
“We are in the process of calculating the cost of these demands, but we can already tell that funding them will require a sweeping overhaul of finances and new revenues – meaning more and higher taxes for residents. Chicagoans deserve to be represented by a neutral party who is looking out for their finances.”

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
