The History Of Place Plumereau

Place Plumereau is an area located in Tours, France. It has a rich history that dates back to the early Middle Ages when it was first used as an administrative center for the local government. The square was expanded over time and eventually became a major hub of activity and entertainment in the city throughout subsequent centuries. It also served as an important site for religious ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals.

Originally known as ‘Grande Place’, it wasn’t until later on that this area became known as Place Plumereau due to its proximity to Rue de la Plumerie (Lace Street) which is where plumage merchants could be found selling their items during the 1600s. Since then, the name has stuck and become widely recognized by locals and visitors alike.

In 1772, a group of architects constructed several Baroque style buildings around the perimeter of Place Plumereau including l’Hotel des Chevaliers du Poitou (the Knight’s Inn), Maison Poulain (Poulain House), Maison Michelin (Michelin House) among others; each boasting unique architectural designs that remain standing today adding to its picturesque atmosphere which attracts tourists from all over Europe every year.

We offer you a room of 42 seats and a room upstairs with a capacity of 30 people. Depending on your wishes, this room can be reserved and privatized.

Place Plumereau (also called Place Plum) is a public square located in the central district of Old Tours. The place dates back to the 15th century and is named after the late Councillor of Tours, Charles Plumereau, who donated 3000 francs to the city. Major highlights of the square include:
