Not Just Travel has ‘big growth ambitions’ says new commercial director

chris harrison travel weekly

Homeworking agency Not Just Travel has ‘big growth ambitions’ for the next few years, says its new commercial director, Chris Harrison.

The ex-Dawson & Sanderson managing director joined the business three weeks ago to oversee business development, revenue generation and training for Not Just Travel’s consultants.

He said the Dorset-based company currently has about 900 franchisees and his appointment is part of the strategy for growth.

Furthermore, his post is the first of several new senior roles to be appointed, which will enable co-founders Steve Witt and Paul Harrison to concentrate on expansion and the wider business strategy, said Chris Harrison.

“The business is growing and as it grows, we need to optimise the revenue opportunities and excel at the next level,” he said, who has experience of supplier relationships, purchasing, selling and running sales teams from his time at Newcastle-based Dawson & Sanderson, as well as Thomas Cook.

Harrison has just returned from the company’s recent retreats in Cyprus, which were supported by trade partners Constantinou Bros Hotels and Classic Collection.

One hundred travel consultants attended training sessions and experienced the hotel group’s properties first-hand – with several of them making bookings during the retreats.

“They made me feel really welcome and the engagement was incredible – it was intensive training,” said Harrison.

“Everyone was very enthusiastic for the product and lots were doing bookings before they even left.

“Such face-to-face events are brilliant…giving consultants a chance to cross-pollinate their skills and come together to galvanise the community.

“I have never been on a classroom-style trip like that with so many enthused for knowledge.”

His priorities include improving the onboarding training by “taking it up a couple of notches” and offering more value-added initiatives for trade partners.

“The level of interest in franchises has gone up because of recommendations and success stories,” he said.

“People can join from a non-travel background and in a few years they can be turning over more than a single high street store.

“That pays tribute to the process and support network. We invest in people as much as we invest in the business.

“The retention rate is high and our commission structure is market-leading.”

The company is headquartered in Christchurch, Dorset, but, like the consultants, Harrison will remain working from home in the north.

“It reflects the way the business is run; I do not need to be in the room,” he said.

“We are a very technologically advanced business and technology is part of our success.”

Not Just Travel hires former Dawson and Sanderson Managing Director

Chris Harrison leaves NJT

Not Just Travel has recruited former Dawson and Sanderson Managing Director Chris Harrison as Chief Commercial Officer.

In his new role, Chris will oversee aspects of business development, revenue generation and the expansion of the NJT’s trade-facing team.

He resigned from the north-east miniple Dawson and Sanderson last year as part of a restructure.

Prior to that, he was Head of Trade Sales, Head of Trade Purchasing and Distribution Director at Thomas Cook.

Not Just Travel says Chris (pictured) is the first of several high-profile appointments within the company as co-founders Paul Harrison and Steve Witt ‘surround themselves with key industry talent and experience’.

Steve said the company was ‘highly selective’ when recruiting for this chief commercial officer role and revealed that industry leaders were asked for their recommendations.

“Chris’ name kept coming back to us time and time again,” added Steve. “His excellent reptation precedes him and we knew he was the best person for the job.

“He is a high achiever and has generated high growth in companies of a similar size to us.”

Chris said: “Not Just Travel is an exceptional business that I’m proud to be a part of. Not Just Travel is progressive, dynamic, and forward-thinking and dovetails with my values.

“Together, we will take the company on a massive growth trajectory.”

Chris Harrison

Chris Harrison is offering his side of the story surrounding his public exit from The Bachelor franchise.

With the launch of his new iHeart podcast The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever … With Chris Harrison , the TV personality speaks for the first time about his split from the show. The first two episodes of the podcast, released on Jan. 9, also mark his return to media.

Tyler cameron says 'golden bachelor' divorce after three months put a "true stain on love", 'golden bachelor' couple to divorce three months after televised abc wedding.

“The playbook had been thrown out the window,” he says of responding to the snowballing backlash after an Extra interview with former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay nearly two years ago, on Feb. 9, 2021. “The toughest thing for me was where to turn, what to do,” he says. “I was heartbroken. I was gutted. I was embarrassed. I was mad at myself. I was disappointed in myself.”

Adding, “I was sick to my stomach. I lost 20 pounds, I didn’t sleep. I didn’t eat.”

In the interview with Lindsay, Harrison did not denounce allegations of past racism against a contestant, Rachael Kirkconnell, who would go on to win that season with the first-ever Black star of The Bachelor , Matt James. (“Well, Rachel, is it a good look in 2018, or is it not a good look in 2021? Because there’s a big difference,” he said of the outcry over Kirkconnell attending an “Old South” antebellum-themed party in college in 2018. “It’s not a good look, ever,” replied Lindsay, who was the first Black star of The Bachelorette. )

Harrison’s misstep came amid a pivotal time for the majority white franchise, which was being criticized for mishandling its Black lead. Such behavior from its host highlighted a then-lack of diversity among the franchise’s decision-makers, and it ignited a firestorm for the Warner Bros. TV-produced series.

The official decision for Harrison to leave the franchise after hosting The Bachelor , The Bachelorette and its various spinoff series for 19 years came after weeks of a failed apology tour and behind-the-scenes discussions that ultimately led to his ouster. The Hollywood Reporte r reported at the time that Harrison walked away with a confidential settlement and sizable payday.

Before that decision was made, Harrison made several public apologies. First, a statement on his Instagram (since removed) apologizing for “wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism.” Saying, “I will always own a mistake when I make one, so I am here to extend a sincere apology.” He followed that by announcing he would step aside from the franchise so the “historic season of  The Bachelor  should not be marred or overshadowed by my mistakes or diminished by my actions.” He then appeared on ABC News’ Good Morning America , where he told Michael Strahan about the work he was doing and his plans to return: “I am committed to progress, not just for myself, also for the franchise.” The latter proved to be the “nail in the coffin, ” per sources to THR .

“It was messy, it was disappointing, and it’s just not me,” he says of the initial interview, while apologizing: “There is nothing in my soul that would ever want to harm anybody, make you [the viewers] feel less than, not seen, belittled and in any way marginalized.”

He continues, “The decision was made, ‘Ok, apologize,’ which I did. And then, ‘Don’t speak.’ And that’s what I was counseled. And I tentatively agreed. ‘Ok, this too shall pass.’ We’ve been through things somewhat like this before, and this too shall pass. Not a big deal. But that noise, in this moment in time, didn’t stop. And that’s where the playbook was thrown out the window and that’s what none of us were prepared for, and that’s what I wasn’t prepared for. Because all of a sudden, this moment and my name because synonymous with this political lightning-in-a-bottle moment.”

Noting an “appetite to destroy and cancel” him, he says, “everybody was talking about me in this moment, and I wasn’t speaking.” He wanted to have an open dialogue, but that also wasn’t recommended: “It wasn’t that I wasn’t allowed. But I wasn’t counseled to do that.”

He says he knew of certain castmembers whose agents were putting in calls for Harrison’s job while he was sidelined. “There was blood in the water,” he says. Meanwhile, he says he called cast members, producers, executives and agents to check in, listen and talk. Harrison spoke to a crisis manager, but “nothing prepared any of them for this.” Adding, “I was also astonished at how many people had their hand out. Wanted to get paid for this. Taking advantage of this situation. It’s a bizarre thing.”

While noting the hypocritical nature of him now speaking about the saga on a podcast like so many others in the franchise did at the time, he adds: “It’s the business, it’s what I signed up for.”

He continues of the fallout, “It was Stranger Things , the world was upside down. And I attribute that to a lot of things. I think the timing of this is very relevant, at where we were in the world. We were all coming out of two years of being locked up [due to the pandemic], and I think we were all angry and frustrated. And then culturally, what was going on in the world with civil rights. There was a lot of confusion, anger, resentment. It was a very combustible moment in time. And my timing of being sloppy, inappropriate, wrong in that moment, that’s on me, to have not seen that.”

Because of the interview, “I rolled a grenade under all that. And I made things worse,” he says of putting a national spotlight on the ABC franchise’s race problem . “I shined a big bright light on more than what needed to be, that was on me. And to have brought that on my house? It was shameful. And it just crushed me. To the bottom of my soul, I was just sick to my stomach.”

In the aftermath of Harrison’s stepping aside, ABC and producers Warner Horizon vowed to increase the show’s diversity of leads and contestants , and added Jodi Baskerville as the franchise’s first-ever Black executive producer. The Bachelor season 27 returns Jan. 23. “We were working very hard to shift and change and be better. I would like to think I was a part of that,” says Harrison.

Ultimately, Harrison says he couldn’t figure out how to fix the situation. Without specifying, he says there was “one night in particular” that he made the call. “I went home and I drew the line in the sand, and that was it. And that was my breaking point. And it was time to take my life back. And it was time to step away and get my life back. And that has been a blessing.”

Of the humbling experience overall, he sums up, “I’m not proud of how it went down, I’m not happy about how it went down. But I’m a faithful person. … It allowed me to have a better life with my kids, to fall in love, to be engaged with the woman I love, to having a much better life than I was living.”

Now, Harrison says he doesn’t hold anger towards the show. “The show changed my life. I’m grateful to The Bachelor and The Bachelorette , I will be forever grateful … There is no animosity,” he says.

The Bachelor was 5th among adults 18-49 in 2019-2020, tied for 6th with The Bachelorette in 2020-2021 and tied for 11th in 2021-2022. The 2022 season of The Bachelor was down 30 percent in total viewers and 39 percent in adults 18-49 vs 2021. The Bachelorette season 19, however, was up this summer vs. the fall 2021 season.

Members of Bachelor nation may be wondering where is Chris Harrison now that he’s no longer hosting shows in the Bachelor  franchise. Well, according to sources who spoke to Us Weekly following his exit, Harrison is already looking ahead to his next opportunity.

“He’s been getting all kinds of offers on projects, so he’s hoping to lock something in soon,” an insider told Us Weekly on Tuesday, June 8—the same day Harrison confirmed his Bachelor exit . “He has a team who has been supporting him this entire time and is working on his next move,” the source continued. “He’s hosted other shows in the past so safe to say this isn’t the end of Chris Harrison hosting!”

Still, according to the insider, Harrison’s departure from the  Bachelor  franchise hasn’t been easy for the longtime host. “The whole situation is frustrating for him. Until things are settled legally and contractually, he can’t even plan his next steps,” the source explained, noting later that Chris “had been left in the dark over a lot of behind-the-scenes franchise decisions.”

This even includes ABC’s formal decision to let Harrison go on June 8, which reportedly “surprised” him. The decision came months after his controversial February 2021 response to season 25 winner Rachael Kirkconnell’s racism scandal. Rachael , the  winner of Matt’s season , faced backlash at the time when photos resurfaced of her at an “Old South” Antebellum-themed party at Georgia College in 2018. Harrison later faced controversy after he defended Rachael, telling former  Bachelorette  Rachel Lindsay to extend some “grace” to the season 25 winner despite her actions.

Ultimately, however, Harrison secured an eight-figure settlement with ABC as part of his exit. The former host confirmed his departure on Instagram, noting his gratitude to the members of Bachelor Nation.

Chris Harrison Thinks ABC Execs Have Had ‘Conversations’ About Bringing Him Back as ‘The Bachelor’ Host

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Chris Harrison at the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards Kathy Hutchins/Shutterstock After a report surfaced that ABC was considering bringing back Chris Harrison to The Bachelor, the former host is weighing in on the possibilities of a return — and whether there’s any truth to the speculation. “[The report said] internal conversations are being had by ABC executives about bringing me back. Do I think these conversations have happened? Probably,” the 51-year-old “The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever” host said on a recent episode with Tori Spelling . “I think it would almost be crazy not to if you're running a business, any business at all, and that business sales are down 50 to 60 percent and falling — and everybody can see the numbers, we know what's happening — and you think there's something that could change that and fix that? Of course you're going to have that conversation. You would be crazy not to have that conversation.” Harrison’s last season as part of the popular franchise was Matt James’ journey, which aired in 2021. He launched his podcast last month. "With the advent of this podcast, they've seen the numbers," he continued to Spelling, 49. "They've seen the response in my social media. They're not deaf to all of that. They've seen what's happening, so am I shocked these conversations are happening? No. It would not be a surprise. In fact, I would be shocked if they aren't happening." Earlier this month, ABC told Daily Mail that there were no immediate plans to bring Harrison back following Radar Online’s report otherwise. The network cut ties with the Perfect Letter author as he was under fire for his apparent defense of James’ eventual winner, Rachael Kirkconnell, when college photos of her at an Old South-themed party resurfaced. Jesse Palmer stepped in to replace Harrison — a decision he didn’t see coming. “I thought, to be completely candid, that Wells was going to get the job,” Harrison said earlier this month, referring to Bachelor in Paradise bartender Wells Adams. “I even told him, I said, ‘Hey, man, I won’t speak out publicly because I don’t think that will help you at all. In fact, it would do a lot more harm than good. But I really hope you get the job. I think you’d be great at it.’” When asked about the Texas native’s remarks, Palmer told Us Weekly: “[I have] no reaction, really. I mean, he’s obviously entitled to his own opinion as everybody is. I’m just really happy for Chris and wish him the best in his next venture.” While there is seemingly no truth to claims ABC wants Harrison back, the Beverly Hills, 90210, alum couldn’t help but ask him whether he would ever consider a return. "I live by the axiom never say never because in life and business, that comes back to bite you in the butt," Harrison responded. “Would I have that conversation? Yes. I also believe in relationships and in business, take the phone call and you listen and you have that conversation, whether it's uncomfortable or not."Sign up for Us Weekly's free, daily newsletter and never miss breaking news or exclusive stories about your favorite celebrities, TV shows and more! Dawson & Sanderson to file restated accounts after auditor resignation

Northeast agency Dawson & Sanderson will file restated accounts at Companies House “in the coming weeks” after an “individual error” with its previous filing.

Chris Harrison, managing director at Dawson & Sanderson, said in a statement: “An internal review revealed an individual error resulted in the filing of accounts at Companies House when they had not been formally approved.

“When the board and I became aware of this error we took immediate action and set in place measures to ensure that the correct process will always be followed in the future.

“In recent months we have appointed a new financial director along with new auditors.

“There are no irregularities or discrepancies in the accounts. Our restated accounts will be available at Companies House in the coming weeks.”

Documents filed at Companies House show that previous finance director Alistair Cormack resigned on April 11, and Annelene Hutton was appointed to the post on the same date.

Companies House documents also include a letter from auditors Greaves Grindle saying the accountancy firm did not sign off the agency’s accounts.

The letter from Greaves Grindle – dated March 22, 2022, and signed by Jane Harvey – outlines the reason for the firm’s resignation, saying: “It has come to our attention that the company has filed at Companies House financial statements for the year ended 31 st  August 2020 which include an auditors’ report purporting to be signed by me; however, this firm has not carried out any such audit on the accounts for the year ended 31 st  August 2020, and I have not signed the filed report.”

Companies House filings also show that the previous accounting period has been extended from August 31, 2021, to February 28, 2022.

Founded in 1962, Dawson & Sanderson has 21 branches in the northeast and offers holidays departing from Newcastle, Doncaster, Humberside, Manchester airports.
