Japanese eVisa for Bangladeshi Citizens

The Japanese government has launched an electronic travel system to Japan , so tourists can apply online for permission to visit the country.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions, Japan has introduced the eVisa slowly. Currently, a select few nationalities are eligible . Other visitors, including citizens of Bangladesh, must still apply for a visa at an embassy.

Japan is gradually lifting its restrictions. It is expected that the eVisa will become available to more travelers in the near future . It may soon be possible to get a Japanese eVisa for Bangladeshi passport holders.

The eVisa will streamline the process for issuing visas and make it quicker and easier to authorize a trip to Japan.

Do Bangladeshi Travelers Need an eVisa to Visit Japan?

No, Bangladeshi travelers do not need an eVisa to visit Japan at the moment. The Japan eVisa is currently unavailable to visitors traveling on a passport issued by Bangladesh.

Only Bangladeshi dual citizens with a passport issued by an eligible country , such as Canada, the United States, and Taiwan, may get the Japan visa online.

To get a Japan visa for Bangladeshis who do not have a second citizenship, you must apply in person at a Japanese embassy.

As Japan lifts its travel restrictions, it is likely that it will expand its eVisa program to more nationalities. It may soon be possible to get a Japan online visa for citizens of Bangladesh.

Japan eVisa Requirements for Nationals of Bangladesh

It is currently not possible to get an eVisa for Japan for Bangladeshi nationals, unless they are also a citizen of an eligible country and have a passport issued by that country.

Bangladeshi passports are not eligible to apply for a Japan eVisa at present.

To get a visa online, it is necessary to comply with a list of Japanese eVisa requirements . These can vary depending on the nationality of the applicant’s passport, place of residence, and purpose of travel.

Required documents include the following:

  • Passport issued by an eligible country with at least 6 months of validity as well as a minimum of two blank pages
  • A digital copy of a recent passport-style photograph
  • Certificate for Completion of Registration issued by the ERFS

As Japan continues to reopen to international travel, it may make Bangladesh an eligible country . This would make it possible to complete the application form for a Japan eVisa with a Bangladeshi passport.

The following documents may also be required :

  • Letter of invitation
  • Documents to prove kinship (when visiting relatives) — these may include birth certificates, marriage certificates, a certified copy of the family register, etc.
  • Documents to prove relationship with sponsor or guarantor (if applicable)

Types of Visas for Japan as Bangladeshi Passport Holder

Japan’s short-term visas for Bangladeshis

The short-term tourist visa for Japan allows for stays of up to 90 days and is appropriate for the Bangladeshi passport holders who are traveling to Japan for tourism, leisure, to visit family or friends , or for shorter business dealings.

This kind of Japan visa for Bangladeshi citizens can be issued either as a single-entry or as a multi-entry travel permit , and that decision is again made based on the type of trip or trips that each individual from Bangladesh is planning on taking.

The Japanese Transit Visa is only for those citizens of Bangladesh who are using Japan as a layover location and plan on transiting on to their final destination

Japan’s long-term visas available to citizens of Bangladesh

The long-term options for Bangladeshi citizens who wish to visit Japan are a bit more specific. In general, though, they will depend on the type of trip they are taking to Japan or the reasons why they are moving to the country.

The General Visa to Japan is meant for travelers from Bangladesh, and other eligible countries, who meet the specific requirements and will be spending between three months and three years in Japan.

The Japanese Working Visa is for those Bangladeshi citizens who have received a professional offer to relocate to Japan specifically for work.

Japan’s Specific Visa can be used by Bangladeshi spouses of Japanese nationals who wish to relocate to Japan to live with their partners. This visa is valid for up to five years at a time.

  • Visa category and type
  • Visa validity dates
  • Any entry conditions or restrictions

The visa holder must understand their visa subtype, as this dictates the activities they are permitted to engage in while in Japan.

Visa recipients must typically pick up their visas from the Japanese embassy or consulate where the application was submitted. At pickup, they must:

  • Present the valid passport linked to the application for matching.
  • Confirm that the visa is properly affixed to a page within the passport.
  • Ensure the visa contains the correct visa validity period and is signed or stamped if necessary.

This is also an opportunity to clarify any discrepancies or misunderstandings regarding the visa.

The expiry date on the Japanese visa indicates the last day the holder can use the visa to enter Japan, not the duration of permitted stay. Timely entry is essential to avoid travel complications. Visa conditions typically outline:

  • The length of stay granted upon entry, which may differ from the visa’s validity.
  • Any travel restrictions , such as entry through designated ports or limits on inter-prefectural travel.
  • Visa exemptions should be verified in case of any changes, as some countries have agreements that allow short-term visits without a visa.

Visa holders should also be aware that adherence to the conditions of the visa is mandatory to maintain its validity and avoid issues with Japanese immigration authorities.
