The Kosatka takes design cues from the Russian Kelmar and Delfin Delta-class submarines and the Chinese Type 094 submarines.

Grand Theft Auto Online [ ]

Exterior [ ].

The vessel is a large cylindrical Teardrop hulled submarine with a length exceeding that of the Galaxy Super Yacht [3] . The bow is spherical with a player-selected flag marked in the center, just below the surfaced waterline. A vertical sail (incorrectly referred to in game as a Conning tower [4] ) with horizontal diving planes is located a quarter of the length back from the bow of the vessel. This is marked at the front with a Russian heraldic shield featuring a two-headed-eagle, 1896 , the Russian naval ensign, a five-pointed star and the Ф Cryllic character. The player's flag is repeated on the side of the sail along with a prominent 81 numeric stencil. A light and mast are atop the sail, with the former able to be toggled on or off when submerged.

Immediately aft of the sail, a raised rectangular "hump" extends for approximately one third of the length of the sub. This houses the interior Moon Pool and Guided missile systems. Eight permanently open missile tubes are present in two rows of four. Plating sections on the hull forward of the missile tubes are indicative of the Moon Pool helicopter entrance hatch. Similar underside plating indicates the entry point for the submersible Moon Pool bays. The hump section tapers down to the tail where stabilizing fins and the twin seven-fin propellers can be seen. Inlet valves for the ballast system can be seen under the aft section of the boat.

An access door is at the front of the sail and there are access hatches just forward of the sail and aft of the hump. When submerging and surfacing, a unique dive alarm is heard.

Interior [ ]

The Kosatka's interior layout is very similar to the Ramius , a submarine featured in The Doomsday Heist .

Main Deck [ ]

Blips-GTAO-773-SubControls

  • Heist Planning Table - Located in the center of the room, it is a large, horizontal touch-screen that relays information and used to initiate and manage The Cayo Perico Heist . Any information displayed on the screen will be visible to other players, but only the owner can access and browse the menus.
  • The Sonar Systems (Optional) - Non-interactive station. The Sonar systems are activated/deactivated when piloting the Kosatka, revealing the positions of enemy submarines and hidden caches on the HUD map. They cannot be interacted with when in the interior and cannot be utilized by any players except for the owner.

Blips-GTAO-775-SubMissile

  • Moon Pool (Landing Pad) : The upper level of the Moon Pool, this room contains a helipad that stores the Sparrow (if purchased). The platform is on a lift that raises the stored helicopter through an unseen hatch in the top of the vessel. A ladder in the forward portside provides direct access down to the lower Moon Pool submersible level.
  • Security Room: This is a small checkpoint found between a staircase and the Sparrow Landing Pad. It features unusable lockers and closed monitors.

Second Deck [ ]

  • Captain's Quarters : Forward section, starboard side. The captains quarters contain an individual bed that facilitates the Kosatka's spawn point and a useable laptop to browse the internet . There is also a wardrobe that allows the owner to change clothes and save outfits.
  • Mess : A medium-sized room where food is served to the crew. It contains tables and chairs on one side and the galley on the opposite side. There is a long shelving unit where cans of food and other edibles are kept. It is adjacent to the living areas and leads to stairs to the lower level.

Third Deck [ ]

Blips-GTAO-567-GrWUpgrade

  • If the player purchases the Weapons Workshop upgrade, a bench and wall mount containing various tools and Mark 2 weapons will replace the jail cell, allowing the owner to customize their Mark 2 weapons and resupply specialized ammunition.
  • Torpedo Room : 10 torpedoes stored in two racks, each containing four torpedoes and a fifth one on the deck. Six hatches on the front wall, where they would be loaded for launch.
  • A second Scuba Station is located port-side of the aft pool.
  • Engine Room : A large two-level room where the engine is seen, with two elevated walkways passing above it. A set of stairs provide access to the middle floor and another walkway leads to another room with the ladder that connects it with the upper floor.

Several stairs provide connection between the levels, as well as ladders that allow players to exit the Kosatka through the forward or aft hatches or via the sail at the bridge.

Performance [ ]

Vehicle [ ].

As an enormous submarine, the Kosatka handles relatively poorly due to its sheer size. The Kosatka is difficult to operate or perform evasive maneuvers. However, it has surprisingly good turning capabilities and while it has much slower acceleration, it has a high top speed that allows it to rival the Dinghy , due to its enormous engine and propellers.

The large frame and length of the Kosatka limits most of its presence to open water and will struggle to move in shallow waters and rivers, risking beaching if the submarine attempts to negotiate overly shallow or convoluted shorelines. It is also very hard to dock, requiring the player to step in water unless it is parked, for example, at the Del Perro Pier .

The Kosatka submerges and surfaces in a manner that befits a vessel of its size, and it is unable to descend nor rise at an angle as sharp as the other submersibles in the game, instead rising and descending almost horizontally.

While piloting the boat, there are only two camera views available, a long follow camera, and a First Person/Hood cam view which is positioned immediately on top of the crest on the sail overlooking the bow.

While driving, the player may engage an autopilot function (similar to that used on the Avenger) and leave the helm with the boat remaining in place. This also allows the vessel to remain underwater and avoid most threats, although this limits access for the Sparrow .

The submarine has the same dive depth limit of approximately 500 ft as the other submersible vessels.

Blips-GTAO-760-Sub2

When the vessel is destroyed, the player will respawn on land and can request it from Pavel via the Interaction Menu without a cooldown.

Armor/Defense [ ]

The Kosatka is one of the weakest command centers in the game, only able to withstand 21 homing rockets before destruction. Paired with its sluggish mobility and enormous frame, the Kosatka is extremely vulnerable to damage and can be destroyed by enemy aircraft and even other submarines in direct engagements. It is virtually immune to small arms fire and regular bullets.

However, the Kosatka is capable of staying off radar if submerged underwater, allowing it to stay hidden from enemies unless they are in close proximity to the submarine, or own a Sonar System upgrade for their own Kosatka.

It should be noted that due to its nature as a naval vessel, it can be difficult to even reach the Kosatka, allowing the submarine to keep its distance from the mainland and firmly out of range of threats such as the Homing Launcher and RPG . Only vehicles like the Stromberg and the Toreador can reach the submarine and outmaneuver it, so players have to be aware of such threats.

The Kosatka can take the following:

  • 21 homing missiles.
  • 15 Railgun rounds.
  • 3 tank shells.
  • 1 flak cannon round from the Anti-Aircraft Trailer .

Weapons [ ]

The Kosatka features three unique on-board weapons:

  • Much like the torpedoes fired from the Stromberg; if the Submarine is angled upwards, the torpedoes will fly out of the water and continue travelling in a straight line until they self-destruct or hit something. If the target is locked-on by the Kosatka, the torpedoes will follow their target out of the water as well. However, it is limited to lock on other maritime vehicles, up to 230 meters/754 feet.
  • The missiles will detonate upon making contact with water, preventing them from effectively hitting other submersibles such as another Kosatka.
  • The weapon requires manual lock-on to effectively fire the missiles at a target, similar to the Anti-Aircraft Trailer with the SAM Launcher installed, and the Chernobog . It takes one second to lock on to a target like most homing missile launchers, and there is a cooldown of about 1.5 seconds between firing a missile and locking on to a target again.
  • The periscope has an elevation range between -35 degrees and 85 degrees, able to attack aircraft from almost above the Kosatka and boats/amphibious vehicles positioned nearby. It also has a brighter lens, allowing the operator to clearly see targets during nighttime.
  • The projectile's lifetime, range and damage can vary depending on which occupant takes control of the weapon. If it is controlled from the helm, it will last for 7.5 seconds and can travel up to around 418 meters/1,371 feet, while if it is controlled from the periscope station, it will last for 10 seconds and can travel up to around 557 meters/1,827 feet. If the missiles are fired from the periscope station, they will inflict the same amount of damage as the Rocket Launcher , whereas the missiles fired from the helm will deal the same amount as any other homing missile launcher.
  • The periscope can lock on to vehicles that have immunity to missile lock-on, such as the Avenger with the Missile lock-on jammer autopilot defense, and select Imani Tech vehicles with the missile lock-on jammer.
  • The missiles are visually identical to those launched by the Chernobog .
  • The guided missiles are relatively slow and can struggle to keep up with aircraft that have high top speeds. Their top speed is 225 km/h or 139.8 mi/h. They also have a wide turn radius, as it takes 15 seconds to yaw in a full loop. However, on the PC version, the guided missiles have an extremely small turning radius, are very precise, and are quick to turn with a mouse and keyboard, thus giving PC players a significant advantage when using them.
  • The missiles have a limited range of 4,000 meters/13,123 feet relative to the submarine before self-destructing, with a warning appearing at 3,500 meters/11,483 feet. However, they have an infinite travel time, allowing the user to stay in the air as long as needed so long as they are kept within range of the controller.
  • When the Kosatka is submerged, players cannot launch guided missiles but once launched, the Kosatka can return underwater to stay off radar with the missiles still active in the air.
  • The cooldown begins when the missile is destroyed, not when it is launched.
  • The guided missiles are destructible and can be shot down and intercepted mid-flight. It can be destroyed by small arms fire through means such as the minigun .
  • The blast radius is decently large but the damage is equivalent to two RPGs , making it rather ineffective against heavily armored threats such as the Insurgent or the TM-02 Khanjali .
  • Exiting from the missile camera will cause it to immediately self-destruct mid-air, allowing it to potentially destroy or kill anything within its blast radius.
  • The guided missiles will detonate upon making contact with water, preventing them from effectively hitting other submersibles such as another submerged Kosatka.

Special Variants [ ]

  • A duplicate prop model can be seen during the Cayo Perico Heist finale should the player choose it as the approach/getaway vehicle. This version is different from the drivable version in that it has no equipment or light on the sail, closed missile tubes, no railings around the tubes, and no flags marked around (albeit using the current colour scheme of the drivable version). It also has two circular lamps on the front end.

Prominent Appearances in Missions [ ]

  • The Cayo Perico Heist and associated setup jobs. Can be selected as the approach vehicle for the finale , provided the player completes the preparation mission " Kosatka ".
  • A Kosatka owned by Merryweather Security is used to for intel gathering for Tony McTony 's Kosatka infiltration planning during The McTony Robbery .

Locations [ ]

  • Available for purchase on Warstock Cache & Carry from $2,200,000 - $9,085,000 (depending on customization options) after the player has met Miguel Madrazo at The Music Locker . It can be requested through the Interaction Menu , and will spawn on specific points of the Pacific Ocean , near the player's current location.
  • As of the Los Santos Tuners update, players can request it again while being active, allowing for easier relocations (though still subject to the 2-minute cooldown).
  • Similar to most interiors, the Kosatka's interior is located near the Vinewood Racetrack . Entering a new session with an active Personal Vehicle and the Kosatka set as the spawn point simply parks the vehicle on this racetrack.
  • Similarly, despite not being able to exit it like normal vehicles, the Kosatka is coded to give scuba gear, similar to the Dinghy and the small submersibles. This results in the player frequently wearing a mask after driving it.
  • Unlike the torpedoes depicted in the forward storage room, the projectiles simply use standard RPG models and clip through the bow where the exit ports are supposed to be. [5]
  • Despite the default flag for the Kosatka being designated as the flag for The Russian Imperial Navy, it is actually the design of The Scottish Flag. In reality, The Russian Imperial Navy's flag has the colors reversed.

Bugs/Glitches [ ]

  • It also tends to overlap with a Galaxy Super Yacht before being relocated to where it is supposed to be.
  • The Kosatka may incorrectly spawn on land if the player chooses it as a spawn location to enter a session. It may even become stuck in a building, destroying it in the end [7] .
  • Rarely, an NPC might appear halfway clipped into the Kosatka's sail. This NPC is invincible and fully passive but will still react to being threatened by a weapon and gunfire.
  • Under certain circumstances, shadows of foliage can sometimes be seen inside the Moon Pool. [8]
  • This can also be avoided by entering the Kosatka with any of the vehicles stored in its interior, as the vehicles do not need to make physical contact with the Kosatka's hull. This also fixes the Kosatka's erratic behaviour upon exiting it.
  • It is possible to have another large vehicle ( Mobile Operations Center , Avenger or Terrorbyte ) while having the Kosatka active, by retrieving one of the vehicles from their respective properties directly rather than using the Interaction Menu .
  • Sometimes, the control panels of the vessel and the missile station will become brighter than usual, possibly a lighting issue. This is easily fixed by either using one of the corresponding seats or leaving the sub and entering again.
  • When on the surface, a large square portion of water will become static and will not react with the environment (i.e. remaining calm even in stormy weather).
  • Rarely, taking control of the Kosatka immediately after using the quick travel functionality will result in the submarine moving by itself at higher speeds than usual and not responding to the steering controls. While the player can still control the depth of the vessel, it may have a heavily delayed response upon gaining vertical speed, risking the player reaching the crush depth and being wasted in the process.

GTA Online Kosatka Submarine

GTA Online: Which Submarine Upgrades Should You Buy?

Image of Diego Perez

The Kosatka Submarine is required to do the Cayo Perico Heist in GTA Online, but you can spend some extra cash to install upgrades on the vessel. The submarine itself costs $2,200,000 on its own, but you can more than quadruple that price tag if you install all the upgrades. A fully decked out version of the Kosatka costs $9,010,000. Not all of the upgrades are created equal, however, and you can skimp on some of them if you decide you don’t really need them. Plus, you can always buy them after completing the Cayo Perico Heist and taking home the huge payout . This guide will explain every available upgrade for the Kosatka Submarine in GTA Online, detailing their features and prices.

Which Kosatka Submarine Upgrades Should You Buy?

There are four additional upgrades you can purchase when you buy the Kosatka Submarine in GTA Online, and each of them is listed below.

  • Sonar Station  ($1,200,000)
  • Guided Missiles  ($1,900,000)
  • Weapon Workshop  ($350,000)
  • Moon Pool Vehicles  ($3,360,000)

You can also change the color and flag of your submarine, but these are cosmetic upgrades and do not provide any advantages. Changing the flag is free, but a new paint job will cost you about $75,000. The other four upgrades are the main draw of the submarine, however. Here’s what each of them does.

GTA-Online-Cayo-Perico-Heist-3

Sonar Station

The Sonar Station costs $1,200,000, and it’s arguably the most important upgrade for the Kosatka submarine in GTA Online. It allows you to hunt for hidden treasure and track other submarines around you. Being able to track other subs is nice, especially since the Kosatka can be destroyed and people love to sneak up on you and grief you, but the treasure scanner is the main feature. There are many valuable things to find off the coast of Los Santos, and this upgrade will help you locate them. If you buy one upgrade for the Kosatka, buy this one.

GTA-Online-Cayo-Perico-Heist-4

Guided Missiles

Guided Missiles cost $1,900,000. They’re more of a fun upgrade than anything else, allowing you to launch controllable missiles anywhere you want. There’s a one-minute cooldown between firings, but other than that, you can shoot as many as you want. You can fire these pretty fair inland as well, making them excellent griefing tools. They’re also great for defending your submarine from incoming griefers as well.

GTA-Online-Cayo-Perico-Heist-2

Weapon Workshop

The Weapon Workshop is not a new upgrade in GTA Online, but having one aboard the Kosatka can be convenient. It costs $350,000, making it the cheapest upgrade you can get for the submarine. It works the same way as the Weapon Workshop from the other GTA Online properties, allowing you to upgrade weapons to their Mk II forms. Mk II weapons can take advantage of special ammo types and unique attachments, which can really come in handy during difficult heists. If you’re going to use a loud approach for the Cayo Perico Heist, this upgrade will come in handy. It’s also fairly cheap, so you might as well buy it.

GTA-Online-Cayo-Perico-Heist-1

Moon Pool Vehicles

There are two moon pool vehicles you can purchase for your submarine, and they add up to $3,360,000 if you buy both. The first is a miniature helicopter called the Sparrow, which can be found on the top deck of the submarine. You can take off from the Kosatka and fly back to the Los Santos mainland or anywhere you choose if you buy this helicopter. The other vehicle is a miniature submarine called the Kraken Avisa, which can be found on the bottom deck of the Kosatka. You can use this submarine for underwater exploration. Neither of the vehicles has a special purpose, but they’re convenient to have if you’ve got the extra cash.

The Cayo Perico Heist  is available now in GTA Online on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A next-gen version of the game is currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Here are some quick pro tips to help you navigate the Kosatka Submarine more efficiently. Use the submarine mainly in Sea mode to enable homing missiles, and avoid using the Sonar Station during the day, where visibility is low. Also, consider utilizing the Kosatka Services menu to summon transportation and avoid using personal aircraft in weaponized vehicles only lobbies

Is the Kosatka & Cayo Perico Still Worth it?

There’s no doubt about it; the Kosatka submarine is a worthwhile investment, considering it packs several features that make it great for both grinding and combat. Additionally, the Caya Perico heist remains one of the essential aspects of GTA V Online, capable of delivering massive returns and making the Kosatka extremely profitable.

you’ll need to be a vip motorcycle club president or a ceo honestly though you don’t want to be doing this as a vip there are some serious restrictions and it’s a pain in the backside so realistically the cheapest option here is becoming an mc club president and to do that you first need to have a motorcycle club set up the cheapest one you can grab is the great shepard clubhouse at 200 grand it’s a bit out of the way but if you’re on a budget this is the one to go for once you have the clubhouse set up you’ll need the actual submarine you can purchase this through the war stock website on your phone given it’s a vehicle similar to the moc or avenger we don’t have to worry about locations or aesthetics just the accessories so we have a base price of two million two hundred thousand for the casaka itself and it comes with parking for a torrio door and an avisa snacks some ammo that’s rpgs molotovs and a handgun personal quarters and a control center for the heist so that makes things nice and easy next we have some upgrades starting with the color you can have the standard black and red at no additional cost or one of the other 11 options for an additional 75 000. next up select your flag none of these cost extra so pick the one you identify with most closely and you’re good to go the sonar station for one million two hundred thousand is next this allows you to track and target other submersibles and unlocks the hidden cache hunt which allows you to earn an additional 75 000 per real world day honestly unless you’re planning on griefing other sub owners or grinding the hidden caches a lot i wouldn’t worry about this one next up is the guided missile station at one million nine hundred thousand dollars this lets you fire a missile from the sub and control it in a similar way to the drone they have a range of four thousand meters from your submarine and they’re pretty potent too so you’ll take out most things in one shot moving down the list we have the weapons workshop at three hundred and fifty thousand dollars this allows you to upgrade mark two compatible weapons and purchase different types of ammunition if you’ve unlocked them through research in your bunker and only if you’ve unlocked them through research in your bunker if you do not have a bunker this is a complete waste of money and finally the moon pool vehicles with the sparrow at one million eight hundred and fifteen thousand which is a cracking little chopper fragile but really quick and able to fire multiple homing rockets at the same time once you’ve done an upgrade for an additional 240 grand and the avisa which is a personal sub honestly this is slow as a wet wig and generally pretty ordinary especially at one million five hundred and forty five thousand personally i’d forego this one you’re much better off saving a bit more and grabbing a torridor so that means your bare minimum starting point is two million two hundred thousand or two million four hundred thousand if you have to purchase a motorcycle club too but if you can squeak together four million five hundred you can get the casatka the sparrow with the homie missiles and the motorcycle club if you don’t have one already and with the sparrow your initial round of preps will be much quicker the daily fees are less than 150 too which is a bit of a change from some of the other complex properties as well so assuming it takes you about five hours to rail through the story for the first time and then you just redo the heist again which takes around an hour the second time you’ll probably hit break even after around six hours or so quicker if you jump in on panther week so once you’ve got your eye in you’ll be able to get through the preps in around 45 minutes and the highest in 10 with a solo take of between one million six hundred thousand and two million four hundred thousand depending on your draw with the loot now if you do this with a friend it typically means between eight hundred thousand and one point two million every hour or so but with the solo nerf that came in with the criminal enterprises dlc you can only run this every three hours solo so that means it’s still between 1.6 and 2.4 million for about one hour’s effort but given the three hour cooldown plus an hour’s prep that means you can only and i mean only pull between four hundred thousand and six hundred thousand per real world hour don’t get me wrong it’s still one of the best money makers in the game and if you couple it with an agency you’ll be swimming in cash but it’s not quite the money maker it was it’s still pretty damn good unlock and purchase is next so first up if you haven’t already you’ll need to unlock the kaiopa ricoh heist which you can do simply by wandering into the nightclub off to the side of the diamond casino resort and walking over to the vip area you’ll get a quick cut scene which has a bit of info in it so make sure you have five minutes to yourself and keep the sound up then once you’ve got the cache together and know what accessories you’re going to grab head somewhere safe and bring up the internet on your phone head to travel and transport then to war starcation carry or you can just search war stock on the toolbar at the top click on the cassacre at the top and cycle through the add-ons and click purchase and then confirm your kasaka is now available for you to spawn in so head to the interaction menu that’s on your keyboard double squares on your xbox controller or swipe on your playstation controller toggle down to services then kasaka then request kasaka the menu will disappear and sometime over the next 60 seconds you’ll see a notification pop up on the top of your screen saying the sub has surfaced you’ll also see the submarine pop up on your mini map now i’ve used the chopper here so you can get a bird’s eye view of the sub from the top you can see three hatches from which you can enter the cassette the forward hatch the door on the sail and the aft hatch if you’re in a sparrow you can also hover above mid ship to automatically enter the sub same as your agency or your ceo’s office and if you’re below the water line either swimming in the evasive mini sub or in the torridor you can also enter via the moon pool which is also midship below the sparrow for the first time in though you’ll most likely approach by boat and if that’s the case pull up next to the sub clamber up and head to the main entry on the sail here there’ll be another quick cut scene and a briefing so sound up once you’re done you’ll be dropped into the control room we’re presently on the uppermost deck of the submarine in the middle of the boat and there’s a few things you can do here reddit user optimal writing has done a neat port side diagram which we’ll use here there’s a link to the original in the description below first if we head to the helm we can quick travel around the map similar to the luxury yacht or you can manually drive the submarine around the map controls will differ depending on your platform so keep an eye on the top left of your screen off to the left there through the door you can find the forward hatch the mess and the living quarters and we’ll check on those in a moment next up we have the sonar station you can’t really do much with this it’s a passive add-on but if you have it it will allow you to look for caches in certain watercraft which we’ll get to a little bit later on over to the guided missile station next once you sit here you can fire a single guided missile with a range of 4000 meters it’s kind of like flying a pyro in first person view again we’ll go through this a little bit later in the video swiveling to the center of the room we can see a large tactical screen and this is where you launch the kyo perico heist from heading aft you can see the periscope which allows you to launch short range homing missiles the later to the hatch on the sail and as we move further aft into the stairwell you can see the actuated helipad this is where your sparrow is stored if you’ve purchased one while we’re here there’s a spot to change into a wetsuit too and on some scuba gear heading downstairs below the helipad we can see the moon pool this is where your evisa will be sawed if you have one as well as your toreador on the other side of the room you can find another full set of scuba gear and beyond that is the engine room and aft hatch and if you chuck the scuba gear on you can also walk over to the moon pool doors and exit directly into the water this is super handy for at least one of the coyote missions and is really neat when collecting cages so from the bottom of the moon pool stairs if we head forward we will find the weapons workshop if you purchased it and further forward again the torpedo room and a set of rpgs you can even pick these up if you’re under rank 100 which is sweet returning to the main control room and heading forward this time we end up in the forward stairs you can see the forward hatch there which will pop you out to the bow of the boat and then heading down one fight of stairs and after touch lands us in our personal quarters where you can sleep and where you load in if you have the cassacka set as your spawn point just around the corner here you’ll often find an smg and some mo2 moving after one more room takes us to the mess hall you’ll often see pavel your first officer having a bite and a quiet drink you’ll also find some molotovs and a sidearm and that’s it for the facilities you will get lost don’t worry but eventually you’ll muddle your way around and will be able to find what you need that said if you can familiarize yourself with the layout it’s super handy for at least one of the kio prep missions so next up let’s take a look at the heist now we’re not going to work through the individual setups or the heist itself here that’s for another time however there are a comprehensive list of guides in the description below we’ll just take a quick look at getting the highest set up so when you’re ready head to the control room on the top floor make sure you’re registered as a vip mc club president or a ceo then head to the forward side of the large screen in the middle of the room you can tell you’re in the right spot because the text will be the right way up wander up to the console and look for the prompt top left then press that button you do a little shuffle and then be prompted to press another button again top left once you’ve done that you’ll start your very first setup mission gathering highest intel as i mentioned before we won’t go through the actual missions here but there are links to guides in the description below after you’ve completed each prep mission simply return to the control center of the sub wander up to the screen and follow the prompts to start the next prep still with us fantastic so let’s take a look at some of the unique mechanics around the casaka submarine starting with the helm once you sit down you have a couple of options you can fast travel similar to the luxury yacht or the agency concierge simply select the fast travel option then pick where you’d like to go note that each time you fast travel it will take about 30 seconds and costs about 2 000 this is super handy if you want to get closer to a heist prep staging area want to move the sub in to guided missile range of someone or want to move yourself way out of the way so you can be left alone the other option you have is to pilot the sub manually it’s slow but very tanky so it can be handy for preps while you’re piloting you can also fire torpedoes manually which is great for taking out other subs or clowns in toy doors if you’re feeling lucky oh and of course it’s a submarine so you can dive down a fair way if you really want to be left alone let’s take a look at the periscope next if you’ve been piloting bring yourself up to surface level and exit the pilot seat walk to the other side of the heist control panel to this enclosed space and then use the button prompt top left to access the periscope the controls are a bit of a mix of a sniper rifle for zooming and the homing missiles this is a great way to see what’s going on on the surface without making yourself too vulnerable and to get your bearings without having to exit the sub or jump on the helm the homing missiles will lock onto any surface craft like a boat or a jet ski and any airborne vehicles in range that’s choppers planes jet packs and most importantly oppressors again fantastic for at least one of the kaio prep missions and really handy for nearby airborne griefers next up is one of the more fun features of the submarine the guided missile as the name suggests the guided missile station lets you launch and pilot missiles with the range of up to 4000 meters so that’s around 2.5 miles now when you fire these off you will need to pay attention the guided missiles move quickly like as fast if not faster than a pyro quickly and you can only use first person so they might take a few rounds to get used to once you’ve got your head around piloting them though you can do some serious damage these things are powerful and can take out some pretty solid targets in a single go note though there is a 60 second cooldown from the time your guided missile either hits something or runs out of range while we’re over here let’s take a look at the sonar station this is an effect add-on so we can’t actually use it use it not like a periscope or the guided missiles instead it allows you to activate an add-on in the relevant submersibles at the time of recording i believe we can use this while you’re piloting the actual cassacka while you’re piloting the evaser or while you submerge with the toriador if we’ve missed any please leave a comment below while we’re on submersibles the kraken evasa this sub was released with the 1.52 kaio update and can only be garaged in the casaka it’s a standard mini sub similar to the one we saw in story mode honestly it’s slow not terribly maneuverable and it’s just not a lot of fun to drive so i’m not a massive fan but if you’re super keen on grinding out those cases though it might be a handy investment as it does allow you to exit the vehicle while submerged and then re-enter and that can be handy for reaching the unusual or tight spots around the map especially around some of the wrecks and caves sticking with the submersibles sort of is the toreador this is based on an old lambo mazel concept car from back in the day and is essentially a matu stromberg it has a boost that can be used on the ground in the air and even underwater this one also comes with unlimited missiles which is super handy when dealing with griefers idiots cops and other npcs oh and while it can be garaged in the casaka it doesn’t have to be garage there you can keep it anywhere you like there’s one more vehicle that your new submarine can house that’s an armed chopper the sparrow at the time of recording this was the second fastest chopper in the game topping out at nearly 169 miles per hour or around 270k you can fit it with either a 50 cal machine gun or homing missiles for my money the homing missiles are the way to go their tracking is excellent and there’s no reload time so you can just keep firing one after the other and you never run out of ammo either it’s brilliant just one thing to bear in mind the sparrow has the constitution of a paper plane on a rainy day it is fragile if you look at this thing the wrong way it starts smoking rough landing smoking two bullets from a handgun smoking bump into it as you’re running around to get into the pilot seat believe it or not smoking it does not fare well against missiles either that said if you have the money it’s an absolute must this helpful piece of kit will halvor even third the time it takes you to do the free mode preps for the kaio heist right that’s the cassatta cupboard and the main vehicles it can garage one more thing and then a couple of quick pro tips services similar to the moc avenger the yacht et cetera the casa comes with a bunch of additions that can come in really handy to access these jump into your interaction menu that’s m on your keyboard hold the double squares on your xbox or swipe on your playstation controller once that’s up toggle down to services then kasaka from this menu you can do a few things firstly if your submarine has not been called in yet you can call it in it will appear on the closest spawn point to your current location and can take up to 60 seconds heading down we can request a vehicle if you’ve purchased them this can either be the sparrow heli which will spawn within about 20 foot of your current location or the visa mini sub which will spawn at the closest shoreline now you can only spawn one moon pool vehicle at a time which can be a bit of a pain there’s also a two minute cooldown on a vehicle if you destroy or despawn it so for example if you despawn or otherwise destroy your helicopter you have to wait another two minutes to call it in again you can however return your mini sub and immediately spawn your chopper you can request a dinghy which is similar to the evisa it will just spawn at the nearest shoreline we have return options which we’ll get to in a moment and after that we can use the next two menu items to set who can enter our submarine and to boot people out of our sub and finally we can swap out the color of the scuba gear if we’ve purchased it now let’s sync back up to return options because that’s a bit of a gotcha the first option is pretty straightforward this will despawn your submarine the next one open water is for when you accidentally beat your submarine which is surprisingly easy to do surfacing your casatka is also pretty self-explanatory and the last one d spawnsy dingy here’s the trick one though return moon pool vehicles this one’s caught me a few times because it returns either the avisa or the sparrow depending on which one you have out and unlike the return personal vehicle option this one doesn’t care if you’re presently in the vehicle so if you’re in your chopper and select this option when you’re not paying attention well no i hate gravity there’s also a two minute cooldown on calling the moon pool vehicle too so that can get mighty inconvenient during a prep mission free mode event or when you’re under pressure some pro tips next so first up like most other businesses if you’re registered as some sort of manager that’s either a ceo vip or an mc president the game assumes you’re actively running a business and that can leave your other businesses open to rates if you’re not actively working a business and you’re not doing something that expressly requires you to be a ceo vip or mc club president then you should resign next if you’re planning on grinding ko don’t be afraid to cancel a heist and restart it if you get crappy loot so the tequila pays out 900 000 the ruby necklace pays out a million bearer bonds pay at 1.1 million and the pink diamond 1.3 million the black panther is also 1.9 million but we won’t worry about that because it’s only available in special event weeks now it costs 25 000 to start a heist and it takes about five minutes to work out what primary target you’ve got once you have the technique down if you get anything but the bearer bonds of the pink diamond you should cancel the heist and restart now hear me out if you get the tequila as your primary that’s 900k which is 400 000 less than your maximum payout if you cancel and restart then draw the diamond you’re 375 000 better off that’s the 400k minus the 25 grand for starting again at that rate you can afford to restart quite a few times before it starts eating into profits so if you have the money you’re better off canceling and restarting as it will most likely be a far more efficient use of your time in terms of return on investment and our final pro tip once you’ve played the storyline through once go and watch some speedrunners don’t watch them beforehand because of spoilers but once you’ve played through the entire questline go and watch them watching speedrunners doing kayo preps will dramatically improve your game and reduce the turnaround time for getting it to the kyo finale i cannot stress this enough damn that was a lot to take in this was certainly a massive task to put together this guide so if you found it in any way helpful please drop a like and a comment below we do our best to reply to everyone so even if you just want to say hi chances are we’ll say g’day right on back and thanks for persevering check out the video up the top for our detail guide on the easiest way to complete the kayak finale or the one down the bottom for some more old grumpy game of goodness stay safe wash your hands and we’ll see you in the next video you

How To Buy The Kosatka Submarine In GTA Online

One of the coolest, yet most expensive ways of getting across Los Santos in GTA Online.

By Joey Carr on May 2, 2022 at 2:42PM PDT

Currently in GTA Online, one of the best money-making methods is by doing the Cayo Perico heists. This particular heist came with the Cayo Perico update, which is considered to be one of the biggest and most impactful in GTA Online's near-decade-long history. Aside from all of the new content, players can partake in the various missions that come with the heist. The most appealing aspect of these missions, excluding the potential earnings, is that players can choose any method to complete them. However, the basis of completing these missions is through unlocking the Kosatka submarine.

The Kosatka was the first submarine introduced in GTA Online and it remains the only one that players can purchase. It's utilized as a base of operations for Cayo Perico missions but can also be used as players see fit. That means when players aren't planning heists, they can take the submarine across the waters surrounding Los Santos.

Now Playing: So You're Getting Back Into GTA Online…

Below, we'll go over what players need to do to unlock and purchase the Kosatka submarine in GTA Online.

Buying the Kosatka submarine

To first unlock the ability to purchase the submarine, players need to speak with Miguel Madrazo. This is the main NPC associated with the Cayo Perico heists. Players can find him at the new Music Locker location found underneath the Diamond Casino. Once they speak to him, they'll begin preparation for their first Cayo Perico heist.

The Cayo Perico update has been out for years in GTA Online

In order to help Madrazo pull off this heist, players need to purchase the Kosatka submarine. After speaking to Madrazo, Warstock Carry and Cache will now have the submarine for sale. Players can go to their Eyefind browser and then navigate to Warstock's website. From there, it's pretty easy to find the submarine, as it's the only one listed on the website.

As players will see, the Kosatka costs a whopping $2.2 million. While this is by no means the most expensive vehicle in GTA Online, it is quite a bit of cash for a vehicle that won't get seen. Of course, that's also part of the allure that comes with buying a submarine. Players are able to glide across the seafloor to reach a destination, utilize the submarine to help with searching the ocean for treasure, and use it as a base of operations for Cayo Perico heists.

Kosatka submarine in GTA Online

Once players purchase the Kosatka, they will also be able to upgrade it. These upgrades can range from separate vehicles to onboard weapons. One of the most useful upgrades is to purchase the Sparrow helicopter. This made our list of the best helicopters to buy in GTA Online thanks to its association with the submarine. Players can buy both vehicles separately but use them together. The Sparrow will further help players with completing Cayo Perico heists, as they can take off and land it directly on the submarine.

As for other upgrades, the guided missiles are somewhat useful if players need to take out any enemies underwater and the sonar detection is also useful to players who use it correctly. Out of any upgrade, though, we recommend prioritizing the Sparrow over others, as it's the most useful right away. Players will need to shell out another couple of million in cash if they want to fully upgrade the Kosatka in GTA Online.

Some of Russia's 'prestigious' guided missiles may be malfunctioning and falling short of their targets: UK intelligence

  • Some Russian missiles may be malfunctioning and missing their targets, per British intelligence.
  • The AS23a Kodiak — or Kh-101 — is one of Russia's top precision-guided munitions.
  • "Issues in its production" could lead to rushed production jobs, the UK MOD says.

Insider Today

Premium Russian cruise missiles might be malfunctioning and missing their targets, according to new intelligence from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The UK MOD said on Tuesday that it analyzed open-source images taken on March 31, 2024, which showed missile wreckage in a field in Saratov Oblast, southern Russia.

The UK MOD said the debris was initially considered remnants of a "possible Ukrainian uncrewed aerial vehicle." However, their analysis concluded that the pieces were likely "fragments of a Russian AS-23a KODIAK air-launched cruise missile."

Related stories

"It is highly likely the debris was the result of a malfunction of a KODIAK missile that was launched towards Ukraine earlier that morning," the UK MOD said.

"The highly likely malfunction of such a prestigious missile indicates issues in its production, likely impacted by sanctions and being rushed to meet the demands of the conflict," the department added.

The AS23a Kodiak is one of Russia's top precision-guided munitions and was designed to attack major military targets like airfields and warships. Also known as the Kh-101, it carries a 992-pound payload that can be equipped with high explosive or fragmentation warheads, per the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Russia has been using these missiles not just to hit military targets but also to take out Ukraine's grain silos and "hurt global food markets," UK intelligence said in October.

Russia's blockade of Black Sea ports has also destabilized Ukraine's food production and sent food prices soaring worldwide, even in places like Kenya and Egypt , which relied heavily on Ukrainian and Russian wheat imports.

While Russia is still losing hundreds of troops a month, Ukraine is struggling to prevent further Russian frontline advances. It has suffered blows from the huge barrage of missiles Russia unleashed on it this winter.

In March, Russia also pounded Ukraine with glide bombs, a tactic that Ukraine can only counter by taking out the planes that drop them. Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said at a March 27 briefing that Russia dropped around 700 glide bombs on Ukraine within six days, bombarding targets consistently from March 18 to 24.

With US aid still stalled out in Congress, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is now begging for more Patriot air-defense systems to defend cities like Kharkiv from Russian missile and bomb attacks. Ukraine is also looking to build drones that could hunt down Russian unmanned aerial vehicles instead of burning through their stockpiles of surface-to-air missiles to prevent aerial harassment.

Representatives for the Russian and Ukrainian defense departments did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.
