How would you like to rate Safari Tuff Split Finger Tab?

Safari tuff split finger tab reviews.

Poor quality and cut wrong

The tab was cut and sewn improperly. The tab would hit the nock every time upon release.

Unknwon

I would not purchase this tab.

The plastic divider has no give.So it becomes painful to use.i could probably reshape to fit but for the price I paid for it why bother.

Best I've tried

After shooting a glove for the past 40 years, I decided to give a tab a try. I ordered 4 models from 3 Rivers, Black Widow, Bateman, Eichler, and the Safari Tuff split tab. Didn't like the Eichler tab at all. Bateman is very slick, but thin. Black Widow is very nice, comfortable, but makes a mark on my cheek upon release. The Safari Tuff is very comfortable, slick, great string … read more feel, and perfect. My only issue is the parachute cord finger strap interferes with spacer that rubs my middle finger. If the finger strap was positioned back a bit it would alleviate this problem. I'm going to give this modification a try Best part is my fingers don't go numb with this tab like a glove, and I have not rubbing on my fingers. Really great tab. Ordering two more now as back-ups!

Best split finger tab I have ever used!

I started shooting bows with a glove and did so for years until a friend of mine told me he shot better with a tab. I tried one and I too shot better with a tab. I've tried many, from the calf hair type with rivets and the rubber finger spacer (that eventually falls out), to the cheap glued together 2 ply type. For me, any tab works better than a glove, no matter how much I wish … read more the opposite were true. Gloves are "cool", all of my archery idols used them. I recently ordered an assortment of tabs from my favorite archery supplier (3Rivers of course) to find something better than the one I'm using now, it is about to fall apart. All of the tabs I got are very functional but this tab is by far the one that works the best for me. The finger spacer is comfortable to me and is firmly attached with screws. The cord adjustment is nice and allows for use over the thin gloves I like to wear on chilly mornings. I was so impressed I jumped on the computer to order a couple more to have back-ups and was disappointed to find the size I need backordered. Safari Tuff's website doesn't even list the split finger version under their products. I only hope these are still being made.

Works better than my glove

This tab works awesome. Smooth release of the string.

Possible Problem

The construction is top notch. The theory is sound, ie you have an extra layer of leather on the top of tab to consistently place the bowstring with each shot. You also have a cutout area for the modern arrow nocks of the carbon arrows. The problem I have personally, was the solid, grooved finger spacer. While comfortable at the beginning of the draw, the spacer "bites" into middle … read more knuckle of my forefinger at full draw. I have a medium sized hand so not sure how this would work for a big fingered hand. May be able to take a file and round off the lip of the spacer. Since we our all built differently, this could be an isolated situation. Would suggest that you try in house if possible, before you decide.

You will not be disappointed

Very easy to put on. Enables a very comfortable and fast release.

My new favorite

I have 4 tabs. After trimming for proper fit, this has become my new favorite. It is thicker than 2 of the other tabs yet I can feel the string better than my thicker tab. I can shoot several hours with my 50# Martin Mamba and not have sore or numb fingers afterwards. I have no complaints whatsoever. Planning on picking up a couple more for backup.

Good quality, finger separator is too big

I really wanted to like this tab, and was eagerly awaiting its availability. I've always been very happy with every other Safari Tuff product I own, and the construction of this tab is quite good. However, the finger separator is much larger than I feel is necessary, and it is hard plastic, making it uncomfortable after a few shots. I much prefer a slimmer and softer separator, … read more like the rubber one on the Bateman Bubba.

Safari Tuff on the fingers and wallet

This product was a major let down. First the leather backing for the fingers is too thin. Second the facing seems to be made out of cheap pleather and not real cordovan leather. And last is the hard plastic finger separator is too thick, it crushes your index and middle fingers together and with a fairly heavy bow it fills like someone is trying to break them. Probably should have … read more made it out of rubber. Bottom line for what you pay for one of these tabs you can almost buy two archery mitts. Save your money and buy a mitt.

Safari Tuff Split Finger Tab Questions and Answers

Ask a question, actualy i use black bidow split tab in smal size, what size should i choose to replace my old black widow tab .

You would still want to get the small size.

I'm not familiar with a black widow shooting tab however I think these tabs run kind of small.... I'm shooting their extra large. Sent from my Verizon 4G LTE smartphone

What brand of or homemade tab do you use?

safari tuff split finger tab

  • Add to quote

I finally broke down and ordered a high speed, low drag finger tab. Split finger. If you string walk. Post those too. When my order comes in. I'll post about my new tab. My current is a Black Widow tab. The only tab I've ever used. That's changing.

safari tuff split finger tab

I've been making my own for the last 30 years or so and keep one in my pocket all the time--not pretty but functional. I pulled this one out and took the picture. Four layers; two very thin deer hide between two pieces of leather. I've tried several high-dollar ones but always go back to the homemade.

Fashion accessory Metal

Always Yost. Great people, great product. I prefer the brass one.

safari tuff split finger tab

I use the Yost stringwalking tab. For FITA target I use a Venom Black Mamba split finger tab. The Black Mamba is the first tab that I encountered with the large untrimmed leather face. Yost adopted the same approach several years later. The Black Mamba was designed and sold by Matt Zumbo, a junior Olympic target archer who did quite well in the last Olympic trials. I bought from him dad at a tournament to support him and it worked so well it became my go to target tab when shooting long distance, particularly 70 meters and beyond. I use a Safari Tuff tab for my longbow. It is quite a bit thicker and does a good job of protecting my fingers. I also like EW Bateman tabs and have have several in reserve. I have sensitive fingers and Bubba Bateman made me several with thicker leather. The Spigarelli Amico tabs are nice, offering superior finger protection, but are too wide for my hands, even in the smaller sizes. I am not a fan of the Wilson Black Widow tabs. Separate finger cutouts eliminate the finger pressure distribution that you get from a single piece of leather. Maybe guys that shoot gloves like that.

safari tuff split finger tab

I have been using those as well. Nice to have the large tab face for trim to fit sizing. I have noticed that there is a thicker black cordovan face as well as a thinner brown cordovan face. I like the thinner face , it seems to be a bit smoother on release for me.

Actually I’m not using it under my chin, it’s where I place my thumb. That’s why it’s set so low. Realize that is not it’s intended purpose but puts my thumb in a consistent location during my anchor with my middle finger in the corner of my mouth it rests on my jaw bone right below my ear and the first knuckle of my thumb touches my earlobe. Took it off once and felt like something was missing from my anchor. Put it back on.

Black widow for me, but it’s looking rough!

On mine. The extra two layers behind the index finger leather are gone. The red layer on the palm has tore from me splitting my fingers apart. I have another Black Widow. Same tab. Except it feels its made of different stuff. Looks it too.

I have always favored a black widow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yours looks worse then mine, but I’m not too far behind!

AAE Elite Finger Tab with the Cordovan leather face.

I have and have used the Bateman cordovan, Spigarelli and Yost tabs. Picked up a couple of new ones recently from Mark Harrison of Omnivore Quivers and Tabs in Florida. He makes some really unique ones using snake skins. Top quality. I had to remove the backing piece of leather as it made the tab just too thick for my liking and when I did they were perfect. He uses saddle leather which he says doesn't get slimy like cordovan when wet. Haven't had a chance to try that out yet although this morning would have been a good test. My warm bed and hot coffee won out.

I went to Yost in August and at this point I can't see any reason to change. It is the best 3 under tab that I've used. If I was still shooting split I would still be using the RMS Gear tab that they produce.

Yost or Barbee.

Quality Split Finger Tab

safari tuff split finger tab

I’m looking for some suggestions on some good quality spit finger tabs. I have been shooting three under but tonight I tried a split finger tab and I’m thinking of going that way. I need something not too thin with a spacer to help with my 64 year old finger joints.

I really like the AAE Elite tab.

safari tuff split finger tab

I really like Bateman tabs. Great quality and wear very well.

safari tuff split finger tab

The AAE Elite is what I usually use. I use it both split and 3 under. One feature of the tab that might interest you is that the cordovan leather and spacer are held in place with screws. So you can easily change them, remove the spacer, or replace it with something thicker. I also like the plate because it helps me place the tab on the string exactly the same way for each shot.

Years ago I shot with split finger and bought cheap tabs and trim to fit. How do I figure what size I need?

I think AAE has a guide for their tabs on their site.

Bateman tabs, best there is!

safari tuff split finger tab

I like the AAE Cavalier Elite cordovan tab too. Make sure you get the cordovan and not the "super leather". The cordovan face costs a bit more but worth it in my opinion.

The sizing links on the website don't seem to work. I found this on the net.

Safari Tough is another good brand. It uses a leather plate so you can align it to the string as you do the Elite. Can't swap out the tab and liner though. I've used all three mentioned so far. Bateman, AAE Elite, and Safari Tough. Each is well made and will serve you for many years. Like EasyKeepr said. Make sure it is the Cordovan leather model.

safari tuff split finger tab

Split finger tabs are like boots, size is king, especially if you use a spacer. There is a big difference between a Bateman and an AAE Elite tab. They represent two sides of a three sided spectrum, with the third being tabs without spacers. A well sized spacer will place the arrow at the proper point on your fingers, right where the knuckle bends. I was shooting an AAE Elite for FITA until I bought a Venom Black Mamba at a tournament. The Black Mamba tab was invented by a local junior archer named Matt Zumbo. His dad was selling them at our state outdoor championship. I bought it just to support Matt. The tab turned out to be perfect for me, laying the arrow in just the right spot on my hand. Later I bought a backup tab at a local store and had to buy the old spacer as an option since the stock spacer had changed. My coach had stubby fingers and the Black Mamba did not work for him. So it really depends on hand size and options. If the tab comes with different spacers then you can size to fit. Width is also critical and should be no wider than your three fingers. So like boots, you will do better if you can try on the tab first and see how it fits. Also note that the Venom Black Mamba was the first tab I ever saw that had large pieces of untrimmed leather and backing and was designed to be trimmed to fit. What Yost does now was done years ago by Matt. Keep in mind that we are talking FITA style tabs with hard plates. Bateman, Safari Tuff, Black Window and the like, are much simpler tabs. I used Bateman tabs for years, and also the Black Widow. I have a Safari Tuff three under but not a split tab. These are fine. They are not as stiff as the FITA tabs with metal plates. Also, I doubt that as much design rigor went into the spacers. The upside is that I can write my score on a scorecard with a Bateman tab on my fingers, but I have to take off my Venom Black Mamba. So it may be the best looking tab, you have friends that like it, champions use it, but if it does not fit your hand then it is not the right tab for you.

safari tuff split finger tab

Before I switched to 3-under I used a 'Bateman TCD Finger Tab'. I had tried a 'Bubba Hair Tab' but it was very thin for my 40 and 50# bows, and it wore out very quickly. The Cordovan with the TCD Finger Tab is thicker, has a suede backing, takes a few ends to brake in, and it can be trimmed. It lasts forever and is not very expensive either.

Bateman. Buy two, only because you'll lose one before you wear it out.

safari tuff split finger tab

Win&Win 360 cordovan cut down to fit my fingers. Strap buckle removed and strap punched and then screwed to one size. Have a couple of them the oldest is 2008 vintage.

Not sure if this was mentioned above, but if you're looking into getting a tab with a spacer then take the size and stiffness of the spacer into account. For example, without the spacer I'm a medium for the AAE Elite tab but with the spacer I need a large. Here are some thoughts on tabs I've recently tried out: - The Black Widow tabs come with the most padding (3 layers) and I really like the finger guards on them (or whatever you call them). They're selling cordovan versions of the tab again which is good since the quality of the regular leather ones suck IMO. - I really like the plate of the AAE Elite, but it's too thick for my anchor. The top of the plate pushes against my cheekbone. The stock finger spacer sucks and the one you can buy separately is a little better. The thickness of the cordovan can vary a bit, but you can always buy extra layers if it's too thin. - The Black Mamba one is very nice and I really like the 3-strap feature. Only downside is you lose some dexterity when wearing it; I had to take it off and put it into my quiver in between rounds (similar to compounders and handheld releases). For hunting I'd convert it to 1-strap to avoid this issue. - The Angel tab design is my favorite since it has both the finger guards and a spacer. One problem is that the tab runs small IMO; I have a large and I think it's too small. The other is that the cordovan doesn't seem as good as the ones from other tabs. It seems softer and doesn't pad my fingers as well. - The Bateman split-finger tab is a very nice and simple tab. You can get it with two types of backing: rubber and suede. Get the suede one if you want more padding. Tracker1, I got a RH LG AAE Elite you can try out if you want.

safari tuff split finger tab

Good explanation lumis. I used the cavalier elite tab (now aae) and loved it. Once my form changed it tore my face up, cutting that top corner off at a 45 worked like a charm. Also hated the finger spacer, to thick and uncomfortable. Made my own spacer out of aluminum and loved my tab. Have three Now modified the same exact way. Chad

Bateman tabs are reasonably priced and will do everything asked of it.
