Premium India

Sensational in every aspect. Firstly our tour leader Chandra was exceptional in his knowledge, approachability and care for all 12 of us. The tour was enlightening culturally, stimulating from the history perspective and enjoyable as the group melded really well. Thanks to all involved in putting g Premiun India together.

The tour itself was amazing. Giri is an excellent driver with great knowledge about the famous points. The communication with Swastik India was excellent throughout the tour.

Premium India in Depth Tour

Premium India in Depth

Intrepid Premium India in Depth (November 13 - 25) Mumbai - Delhi Excellent tour leader along with very good local informative guides. 3 changes in accommodation; Mumbai - Gordon House Hotel is excellent, well priced and only 1 street back from Gateway to India but the company changed to Fariyas Hotel, Mumbai which was been renovated as well as painted so very noisy, couldn't use the pool and scaffolding all around. Definitely not ideal. Our second night in Delhi was also cancelled at Jaypee Siddharth Hotel though privately booked and paid for months before the tour so had to find alternative accommodation while on the tour and they told the travel agents they were "closed for renovations" however the tour was booked and stayed there and no renovations were occuring. Hadoti Palace Hotel in Bundi looked nice and rooms were big but not clean especially the toilet and shower. Otherwise all hotels were very nice and rated accurately; cleaning the showers/washrooms would have helped with the mouldy smell but that is somewhat consistent in most countries. November is the start of wedding season in India which are very loud and noisy and have no time restrictions so be prepared for that if going at this time of year. Tour involves quite a number of days travelling in a bus/coach for 4 - 6 hours with a stop every 2 - 3 hours. Rest stops are OK at best with only snack food to purchase. Adjusting the departure time would have helped with timeframes as quite a few days we were getting lunch around 2 - 3 pm when hotel kitchens were closed. Definitely not enough free time for shopping on your own with organized evenings most nights or in a venue on the outside of towns. Toured the markets but they were only a walk through with the group and no time to stop and shop. Restaurants and food was amazing and no one was unwell on the trip. 2 days in Ranthambhore Park was too long and could have done in 1.5 days with more time in Agra. Overall a very good trip for myself and my father (aged 79).

Luxury India Tour (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur- 7 days Golden Triangle)-5 star Hotel

Easiest booking ever made. Great hotels, great driver, car could have been slightly larger to make it more comfortable but the whole trip was excellent. I would definitely recommend a private tour as we could tailor just about our whole day to suit us. Would definitely book again.

Our expectations were fairly high before we started, but we were blown away by the expertise, treatment and knowledge of our MTA GUIDE, Manish. Additionally, our driver Prakash was professional and very efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and we have come away with a feeling of genuinely having had a true 'Indian Experience'. Thank you, MTA!

Exciting Wildlife Safari Tour in India

We had been to Africa before this for a safari trip and thought it couldn't get better than that, but wow were we surprised. The experience between the two continents is so vast while Africa has abundant wildlife India has so much more of an exciting wildlife experience. This is the REAL THING. Highly recommended. especially this company as they provided us with a seamless expedience from pickup to our drop with excellent guides and drivers in the middle. We shall be back to cover the other part of India .

Golden traingle 5 nights 6 days

I had a fantastic day in Agra thanks to Anaisha Journey; from the outset the driver was very prompt and attentive in picking me up from Hotels. The tour guide was really informative when taking me through both the Taj Mahal and Agra fort, and was very helpful guiding me through each part of the attractions. Mr Lucky was also really nice and big thanks to him for organising everything. Anaisha Journey arranged a schedule and accommodation for Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi.

Delhi, Palaces, Ganges - 10 days Tour

Delhi, Palaces, Ganges - 10 days

This was my first tour. It was totally wonderful because of Satish. I have knee and hip issues - Satish helped me up and down all the steps at the temples, monuments and ghats - he made sure I was able to enjoy every part of the tour. He also ordered my food in restaurants so I would get the "spicy" version - not the tourist version. He was very knowledgeable about everything we saw. He shared a lot of information with us and I was able to get a deeper insight into Indian life and religion. I loved everything about the tour.

Heritage luxury hotel Rajasthan tour

We had an excellent tour, but the highlight was definitely Mr. Prakash, our driver. From the first moment he was so warm and friendly, we knew we were in good hands. Every day he shows up early to our hotel, and was very flexible if we needed more time. If we need anything, Mr. Prakash has our back. One time my father said he was thirsty, so Mr. Prakash immediately stopped the car and got us 5 bottle of water. When I said I was a little bit hungry, after seeing a temple and getting back in the car, he surprised me with 3 packs of biscuits. He was the highlight of the trip, along with the other amazing sights. If I were to tour India again, I would specially ask for him to be my driver. I also want to say that our first tour guide in Dehli was especially good, Aamir Khan. He did an amazing job at explaining the sites, and took us to see 9 sites in one day. We never felt rushed and he took the time to answer as many questions as we needed. My mother has bad knees and even helped her up and down the stairs. When I spilled my tea, he was quick to replace it. I HIGHLY recommend him for seeing Dehli!

A fantastic tour that delivered so much more than I expected. The trip was so well organised thanks to Ewa and we were provided with some great local guides to show us their country. Highlights included visiting Old Delhi, the Ganges and Taj Mahal but there was so much more. The itinerary also included visits to agra Jaipur and Ranthambore (national park) with good breaks between places. The history and architecture were amazing but a standout was the amazing people - so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend this tour to you.

Luxury Golden Triangle Tour of India Tour

Luxury Golden Triangle Tour of India

Absolutely fabulous trip. We had a number of guides as we did the Golden Triangle and added Varanassi and also Amritser. Our driver Pradeep Kumar and our guides were absolutely fantastic. GeTS Holidays is the most professional organisation - we could not fault them. We first spoke to Anu Seth who gracefully made many changes to our trip as requested. Ritu another GeTS Holidays staff member called a few times to ensure our trip was running perfectly and to check on whether we needed to make any amendments for example add a further site on any particular day. From the first moment of being greeted in Delhi by Sunil who is a very cheerful welcoming guy and meeting our lovely personable driver Pradeep we knew we were in great hands and that this trip would be exciting and we weren't disappointed. The guides were able to show us parts of particular sites unavailable to other tourists. Our trip was not set in stone - we were able to amend it as we saw fit on any day. In Varanassi (where The Ganges River is located) we witnessed the Mother Ganga Ceremony from a rooftop building where we had a birdseye view. This location being available to us as our lovely guide knew the owner of the building and tipped him to save us three front seats while we enjoyed a boat ride on the Ganges to view the beautiful sites from the river. We didn't have to fight for our spot with the throngs. We were also privileged to help hand bowls of food to a number of the people attending this ceremony. We met the festival organiser as the guide knew him personally. We visited ladies (grandmas we were informed) having 'happy hour' (tea) in their home - some from Mumbai, Nepal, Varanassi and other places. The Taj Mahal was gorgeous with its 64 different types of gem stones. Our guide had the other tourists move on so that we could have a view of the 'coffins' of Mumtaz Mhal and Shah Jahan. We were always able to jump to the front of any queues and were able to stay at the sites as long as we saw fit. We can't recommend GeTS Holidays enough. We were extremely pleased to book directly with GeTS Holidays rather than booking through a travel agency in our own country (Australia) as GeTS has access to extraordinary Guides and Drivers. Our driver could not do enough for us. Stopping on our long trips whenever it pleased us and after driving all day asking us what we had planned throughout the evening and coming up with suggestions tailored to our tastes. Do not make the mistake of booking through any other travel agency. :)

We had an amazing time with Swastik India. We saw many beautiful places. Leopard safari was a wonderful experience.

Welcome to India & Nepal

From the Arabian Sea to the Himalayas, from the ultramodern architecture of New Dehli to the forests of Bandhavgarh National Park in India and Chitwan National Park in Nepal, our unique experiences show you the incomparable cultural diversity, compelling history, and spectacular natural beauty of the Indian subcontinent.

Kathmandu, nepal, i'm going to kathmandu....

Kathmandu... the very name of this Nepalese city conjures up images of one of the most exotic regions on Earth. Your stay in Kathmandu with Tauck takes you to Pashupatinath Temple on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, one of the holiest of all Hindu temples... a flightseeing adventure above the alpine landscapes of Mount Everest... a tour of Durbar Square, where ancient temples and pagodas are clustered around the old royal palace... a visit to Kasthamandap, the namesake of Kathmandu, said to be built from a single mythical tree... a rickshaw ride through the marketplace of Thamel ... and a visit to Kopan Monastery, where you'll take your shoes off and join the monks before traveling to the colossal stupa of Boudhanath, encircled by images of Buddha and hundreds of prayer wheels.

The Taj Mahal in Agra, India

A timeless monument to love in agra.

You could say that India's Taj Mahal is so famous that it needs no introduction… but it's so compelling a destination that it's hard not to talk about it. Considered the greatest achievement of Indo-Islamic architecture, this exquisite, domed, white marble mausoleum complex in Agra was commissioned in 1632 and completed two decades later as the tomb and memorial of Mumtaz Mahal, the favorite wife of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Constructed at a cost that would be upwards of USD $825 million today, it ranks among history's most expensive declarations of love. Along with touring it with a local guide, you'll also see it from your hotel room!

The Khajuraho Temples, India

The famous temples of khajuraho.

The Indian town of Madya Pradesh is home to what today is known as the Khajuraho Group of Monuments. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, which you'll visit with Tauck, comprises a famous group of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples built between the 10th and 11th centuries by the Chandela Rajput Dynasty, praised by UNESCO for striking a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture... and famous both for their nagara-style symbolism, and the provocative nature of the statuary decorating many of the temples. Of the 85 or so temples that historians believed once stood in this area, only 25 have survived the ravages of time.

Jaipur, India

The gems of jaipur... and a remarkable way to see them.

The stunning city of Jaipur, India, is home to such highlights as the City Palace Museum, the Jantar Mantar Observatory, the massive gateways and pillared pavilions inside Amber Fort, and the magnificent domes and massive ramparts of Amber Palace. And there's no more exciting way to see these treasures than from above – aboard a hot air balloon soaring over Jaipur – an experience that's included in our "A Portrait of India" journey.

India Tours

Breathtaking view of Taj Mahal from distance, Agra, India

Private and Luxury India Tours

Any tour to India is sure to be an adventure. That is inherent in the nature of this land, which is at once mind-boggling and inspiring, imperfect and incredible.

From north to south, India’s geography is captivating. At hill stations in  Himachal Pradesh  wake up to views of the snow-capped peaks of the mighty  Himalayas . The peninsula of India has a 4,600-mile-long coastline with a diverse range of sites:  Goa ’s sandy beaches, the mangroves of the  Sundarbans , historic seaside temples at  Mamallapuram . And there’s  Kanyakumari , the southernmost tip of India, where the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, and Bay of Bengal meet.

You may have heard the cliché that India is sheer chaos, and perhaps it is. But there is a method to its madness. Leave the uncovering of that pattern to Enchanting Travels’ experts, experienced in organizing private tours to India. From start to finish, all you need to do is trust, keep your mind open to having a blast, and drinking lots of chai.

Whichever direction you travel, India’s history, seen through its magnificent monuments, will leave you humbled and awestruck. In the southern state of  Tamil Nadu  witness religiosity and ritual at  Madurai ’s  Meenakshi Temple . Go west where  Rajasthan ’s Mehrangarh Fort, towering over the blue city of  Jodhpur , is a both palace and symbol of a medieval military tradition. In northern India the glory days of the  Mughal Empire  come alive in the monuments of places like  Fatehpur Sikri  and  Delhi . Plan at least two weeks to capture some of the marvels of this remarkable country, even if right now all you really want to do is to visit the  Taj Mahal .

Our experts can advise you on the  best time to visit India , what to see or do based on your interests, and create a personalized travel experience for you. Get in touch with us for your customized, obligation-free itinerary.

Enchanting Travels - Akshay Maggu - Senior Travel Consultant

I was born and raised in India and the travel bug bit me quite early on in my life when I went on a backpacking trip. I am passionate about showing India to the world as I believe that the culture, landscape and history that one can experience in India is unparalleled. India is like a mini Europe where if you travel a few hundred miles in any direction, you reach a new region where the culture, language, and rituals are different. It’s truly a diverse country like no other.

India is an immense nation of vivid contrasts and unrivalled culture

The seventh biggest country in the world and the second most populous, India can sometimes feel more like a continent than a country. From the snow-capped Himalayas in the far north to the lush waters of the south, this is a place where landscapes and cultures change in the blink of an eye. India is at once chaotic and noisy, peaceful and calm and it is this diversity that makes it such a fascinating and compelling destination.

India is one of the world’s oldest civilisations, its culture shaped by thousands of years of history. It gave birth to some of the world’s most prominent religions and is a country where life is lived out in hundreds of local dialects. Its soil was home to several ruling dynasties, each of whom left their mark. Every corner of the country reveals a different reflection on the past, from the Taj Mahal  to quaint colonial churches and grand palaces built during the reign of the British Raj.

With one of the world’s fastest growing economies, you’re now just as likely to come across skyscrapers and glitzy shopping malls as you are hilltop villages and tea plantations. Cities are huge and sprawling and while they may feel hectic at times,  Delhi  and  Mumbai  are wonderful places to see how the old and new intertwine.

The northern state of Rajasthan is home to some of India’s most well-known and frequently visited cities. Meaning ‘Land of Kings’, the landscape is littered with magnificent forts and palaces. From the state capital of  Jaipur  and the Blue City of  Jodhpur  to the serene lakes of  Udaipur  and the dusty dunes of the Thar desert, Rajasthan is one of the most culturally rich pockets of India. The north is also home to the holy cities of  Varanasi ,  Rishikesh  and  Amritsar , and few who come here fail to be touched by their spirituality. Further north still also offers some of the world’s best hiking, with the mighty peaks of the Himalayas in  Kumaon  and  Ladakh .

Worlds away from the busy northern states, the south is somewhere to catch your breath.  Kerala , affectionately known as God’s Own Country, is a lush and verdant state, one of emerald green waterways and coconut groves, and home to the wonderfully colonial town of  Fort Cochin . While away your days on a houseboat, gliding along the network of canals and rivers, then discover laid-back beaches while listening to the rustle of palm trees and the sound of the ocean as it laps against the shore.

And then there’s the wildlife. India is a real-life Jungle Book, home to tigers, leopards and elephants.  Ranthambore ,  Bandhavgarh  and  Kanha  are home to some of the country’s highest tiger populations while the luxurious and remote  JAWAI  camp is the best place to catch a glimpse of the beautiful and elusive leopard.

There are few places on earth like India. A whirlwind of colours, sounds and smells, its energy is undeniably contagious and the best way to appreciate this rich and unique country is to throw yourself head first into its way of life.

Himanshu and his team did a wonderful job. My mother wanted to visit India for the first time to celebrate her 90th birthday!! My mother, 2 of my friend’s and I engaged Himanshu to organise a private tour. Bout India Tours listened to my requests and incorporated all our needs into a 16 day wondrous adventure that gave my mother undeniable joy and happiness. Thanks everyone at Bout India

A trip to south india.

Bout India provides a wonderful and a very high level of service. From the route planning stage through its implementation on the ground, Himanshu and his staff were attentive, flexible, and fully aware of the customer satisfactory. Very recommended.

Indian adventure with my daughter.

WOW, where do I start?  Firstly from the first email from Himanshu Maru I knew I was dealing with a very professional company. All the places that I asked to visit were tailored exactly to our wishes. The hotels were very good, the beautiful summer palace in Jodhpur was spectacular. All the guides were very knowledgeable and pleasant. The drivers and vehicles were great. The drivers took care of us and gave us a feeling of comfort and security. The cars were always spotless, with good supplies of cold bottled water We had the most amazing 18 days and Loved everything we did and saw. Himanshu met up with us in Agra.... Read More

Highly personalised tour.

We had a tour for 3 people at the 'comfort' level, and I can't imagine what additional service comes with the luxury level, because we were extremely comfortable. Himanshu and his team arranged beautiful hotels for us (including personalising according to our request of smaller hotels where we could get to know the staff), and everywhere we went we had local guides who really knew the monuments and had great pride in their city. We always had wonderful food (our favourite was when Himanshu took us on a street food tour of Jaipur), but were very well looked after and no one got sick throughout the entire t.... Read More

Leh - ladakh: the quaint monasteries & eternal bliss.

The entire 9 day tour was a wonderful experience. Traveling alone, it was agreed that I would have a driver but no guide however Himanshu met me at the airport and spent 5 days with me before returning to Jaipur. He did everything possible to make me feel special. The driver, Nunu was a very careful and considerate driver who added to the feeling of well-being. Accommodation and meals were excellent throughout. I would recommend Bout India to anyone traveling to India.

Beautiful kerala tour.

My friend and I had an amazing time touring for 8 days in Kerala with BoutIndia’s Managing Director, Himanshu. He is a wonderful photographer and took most of the photos so that I could enjoy the sites, scenery and non-stop action. The trip was a good mix of fun activities and exploration with down time to sit on balconies and admire the green hills and waterways. Himanshu was quick to adapt the trip when we had suggestions, and he taught us a great deal about the country and culture. Our driver was excellent as well. I hope to travel to the Himalayas with Himanshu and his company in the near future.

16 wonderful days in kerala.

I found Bout India through an internet search. Like anything unknown I was weary at first, but because of the immediate response I felt as though they were taking me seriously. Within days we had corresponded several times and had the basis of a tour. Himanshu was on hand at all times to help and advise - he was also not adverse to changing the programme, which happened several times. For 3 months we worked together to arrange our customised tour and when we arrived in India we were not disappointed. Everything that had been arranged - hotel reservations, flights, drivers - worked smoothly. The hotels were great and the .... Read More

Bout india is simply the best.

We just had the most amazing trip to India thanks to Bout India. We had been to India several times before and usually book our trips on our own, but for this trip using a destination expert was the way to go. In Rajasthan for example, we were not considering a visit to Ranthambhore National Park. But Himanshu and Charlie recommended it along with other stops and it turned out to be highlights of our trip. Spotting a tiger in the wild is rare, but Bout India arranged 3 safaris for us and we got lucky! The drivers they arranged for us were professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to travel with. The accommodations they a.... Read More

Great trip.

The experience we had with “bout.india” was outstanding! We have never been in India and initially relied completely on the travel suggestions from “bout.india”. The itinerary later changed a few times because we wanted to go to some different places as well as skip some of the suggested stops. The communications with Himanchu, one of the owners of the travel agency, were frequent and detailed. The company provided a very detailed itinerary including descriptions, pictures and advice. We always had a driver who picked us up in a recent Toyota SUV at the respective airports or train station, frequently waiting .... Read More

A family tour through rajastan and the golden triangle.

Very efficient and professional. In the beginning I had some doubts about the payments; we are living in the Netherlands, we were in contact with a travel company in India. Everything went very well. At the end of my holiday the local company paid several hotels for us which were only invoiced after the end of my trip. BOUT INDIA is very honest and reliable.

We were a group of 5 friends. After many mails between Holland, Bali and India , Bout India tours made a nine days trip for us. A trip with many variations. Off course the highlights and also things like markets, nature and connections with Indian people. Bout India Tours was of great assistance for us. The guides ware adequate, our driver was safe and very kind.  We liked very much the flexibility of our trip.

Most memorable trip to india and the himalayas.

This review is long overdue. Vinny and Himanchu listened keenly to understand what we were looking for and then worked tirelessly to create an itinerary that was perfect for my family and I. Indeed we remember it as one of the best vacations we've taken. Our visit from Delhi to Leh to Nubra Valley to Agra to Jaipur and back to Delhi was carefully orchestrated with all the comforts and amenities that allowed for a 1st class travel excursion. We had local guides knowledgeable with the local attractions along the way and Himachu accompanied us on all the domestic travel - both flights and train. It was a delig.... Read More

Incredible first trip to India!

My husband and I booked our first trip to India through Bout India Tours in March/April 2016 and had an amazing introduction to a country we had always dreamed of seeing. Rather than the typical tourist group experience with a busload of other people, we were accompanied during part of the journey with the wonderful founder of Bout India and spent the rest of it by ourselves with a private car and driver. Though we started out with a planned itinerary, they really customized our journey as they got to know us, resulting in an even more perfect trip. Bout india tours are exceptional.

We booked a custom 28 day trip through out India with Bout India. It was a wonderful trip! Great guides and drivers, wonderful hotels and restaurants! We were met at each airport by our guide and driven door to door to our destinations and hotels. We focused on UNESCO world heritage sites. One of our guides told us that we have seen more Hindu Temples than 99% of Hindu’s. I. Would strongly recommend Bout India especially if you want a custom trip organized to meet your needs.

India - Private Travel

The people of India will welcome you with a profound generosity of heart – one you will find yourself returning with pleasure. The spirituality here is illuminating, the pageantry, hypnotic, the traditions, entrenched. This is a country where the calm resolve of its imperturbable citizens and the beauty of the land and architecture will win you over with a continuous string of indelible moments in time, from the rugged northern peaks of Kangchenjunga to the mangrove-lined southern inlets in Kerala.

India is a kaleidoscope of unpredictable adventure, a daily circus you will share with 1.5 billion people.

From the purely simple to the staggeringly overwhelming, India is a kaleidoscope of unpredictable adventure, a daily circus you will share with 1.5 billion people. Concentrate your trip on a few areas, so as not to exhaust your mind and body. The classic Golden Triangle is perfect for first-time visitors, taking in the mosques and tombs of Delhi, Agra’s Taj Mahal – one of the most famous buildings in the world – and Jaipur, the pink city with a royal legacy. India’s religious history could well encompass all of your time, the temples, and celebratory religious events comprising a variety of religions – Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, and more. The central and northern regions yield the highest concentration of sacred sites. The 50 beaches of Goa in India’s south and the waterways of Kerala deliver total relaxation spiced up with coastal cuisine. Indeed, the intricacies of the different regional foods throughout the country lend its complex gastronomy a whirlwind of colors and flavors. The north is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise, a natural playground of mountain treks, white-water rafting, and wildlife safaris, where tigers, rhinos, and elephants are just another part of the unexpected scenery. Take it slow – and breathe it all in.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit India is between October and March, when the weather is more likely to be warm, sunny, and dry. During this time, the north (which is the part of India that most travelers visit) offers clear blue skies, although December and January can be very cold and sometimes foggy. Increasing temperatures in April and May can result in excellent value trips, but you can expect high humidity and thunderstorms.

  • Winter in India sets in around mid-December and lasts through the end of March. This is the coldest and driest season in the country, and considered the best period to visit India. Temperatures during the day are pleasant and comfortable, although often quite chilly at night in the north. Freezing temperatures can be experienced in India’s far north around the Himalaya region, although the mountain views are at their best because of crispy clear skies. In the south, it never gets cold.
  • Summer , also called the pre-monsoon season, starts in April and goes on through mid-June. This is the hottest season in India, especially during the last weeks of the season. Many places experience daily temperatures exceeding 40° C (105° F). It stays cooler in the southern parts of the country, with temperatures reaching around 35° C (95° F), although it’s a lot more humid. In late May, signs of the approaching monsoon start appearing, with squally winds, high humidity, occasional thunderstorms, and dust storms.
  • The monsoon rainy season lasts from mid-June to mid-October. The rains come in from the sea and start making their way up India’s west coast in early June. By mid-July, most of the country is covered in rain. India during the monsoon doesn’t receive rain all the time, although it usually rains for a heavy period every day, followed by pleasant sunshine. The weather gradually starts clearing again from most places in northwest India by October. Travel in India during the monsoon can be a real challenge and is best avoided.
  • The post monsoon season – also referred to as the autumn season – is from mid-October to mid-December. This season comes with a lot of cloudlessness particularly for the northwest side. During this period, the temperature rises again and the weather can be a little unbearable due to the humidity in the air.

HOW TO GET THERE

India receives numerous international daily flights via its many international airports. Most travelers will enter India at one of its two biggest gateways for international visitors, New Delhi and Mumbai, though Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai receive their fair share of international arrivals as well.

  • Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is the country’s largest airport and the main getaway to New Delhi and India. Click here for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to New Delhi.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) serves Mumbai, the financial and entertainment center of India. Click here for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Mumbai.
  • Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is located Bangalore, the third most populous city in India. Click here for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Bangalore.
  • Chennai International Airport  (MAA) is located on India’s southeast coast, near the metropolitan area of Chennai. Click here for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Chennai.
  • Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) serves the Kolkata metropolitan area and is the main getaway to northeast India. Click here for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Kolkota.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Requirements for entry into India differ from country to country, and are subject to change. Prior to departure, always check with your government and your nearest Indian embassy or consulate what documents you need for travel to Indian.

  • You need a  passport with at least six months validity to enter India.
  • Generally, a  visa is required to enter, exit or transit through India. India issues various types of visas, including e-visas. Make sure you get the right visa for your travel and that it’s valid for the purpose and duration of your stay. If you enter India on the wrong visa, you could be detained on arrival and you may be deported and blacklisted, meaning that you can’t enter India again. You can find out more about this on  India’s e-visa website . Beware of fake websites offering this service.

Make sure you read my  10 tips to plan a worry-free trip .

GETTING AROUND

It’s quite easy to get around in India, and several modes of transportation are available:

  • Air India (the country’s flagship carrier, member of Star Alliance)
  • Hiring a car and driver sounds fancy, but it’s a popular and affordable option in India, especially since driving yourself is strongly discouraged due to lack of respect for traffic laws, frequent accidents (India’s roads are statistically the most dangerous in the world) and absolute chaos on the roads by Western standards. Private transfers with a chauffeur-driven car can be arranged via most hotels at often reasonable prices.
  • The most popular class of travel for most visitors is Sleeper Class (open-plan carriages with three-tier bunks and no air conditioning), which gives a reasonable amount of comfort and a whole lot of atmosphere for a pittance.
  • Those seeking more comfort and cooler carriages should opt for one of the three air-conditioned classes: Air-Conditioned 3-Tier (3AC; three-tier berths in groups of six), Air-Conditioned 2-Tier (2AC; two-tier berths in groups of four with curtains for privacy) or Air-Conditioned 1-Tier (1AC; two- or four-berth compartments with locking doors and meals).
  • On Shatabdi Express trains, AC Executive Chair Class is always a quick, comfortable and cool way to go.
  • Unreserved Second Class (wooden or plastic benches and a cavalcade of people) should be avoided.
  • Unless you are on a serious budget and traveling in India for months, I recommend you avoid all forms of bus travel . Major routes often have comfortable, air-conditioned buses, often referred to as Volvo AC, which are on par in comfort and safety with their international counterparts. However, most of the time, Indian buses are ragged and recycled U.S. school buses from decades prior, where people and luggage are piled in with little regard for comfort or safety.

Why is only Central & North India mentioned but the heading says “Indian Travel Guide”? The South has loads of places to offer too.

In India the beaches of Andaman and Nicobar islands are one of the best beaches in Asia.

Thanks for sharing this information

You forget South India. The most beautiful Place and tasty Food

The Taj Mahal is an ok place. Heavily overrated. It is nothing but a grave of a tyranic ruler’s wife. There are scores of ancient temples whose architecture is a marvel which even today can’t be replicated. The Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves is one such example. There is Hampi and Leepakshi Temple. Just do a search for ancient temples in India and you will be bewilidered. The Statue of Unity in Gujarat is another new place to see

The list of Indian tourist places can’t be completed without enlisting Kerala, Odisha and North Eastern, right?

In my opinion the best reason to come to india is for a safari. You mentioned ranthambore but the other areas you should consider are

1. Bandhavgarh 2. Kabini 3. Jim Corbett 4. Ranthambore ( again )

Also if you are planning to visit in october you should also consider kanha and pench

I found this very helpful thank you so much! but if you want a cheap deals i got a recommendation

Check this out!! cheap deals tickets

Interesting travel guide for a trip to India. But the guide is incomplete as it doesn’t cover the must- visit places of India. Maybe, you can publish one more blog on India travel guide given the diverse locations and culture to experience in this culturally and historically rich country.

Luxury stays in north India that are perfect for your summer vacation

Precious Rongmei , TIMESOFINDIA.COM , TRAVEL TRENDS , INDIA Updated : Apr 16, 2024, 13:41 IST

india travel luxury

Summer is here and with the increase in temperature, we have started to look for cooler destinations for a much-deserved holiday. Here we have a list of luxury stays that you should consider. These stays are not only some of the best in north India, they are also unique in their own way.

Mary Budden Estate in Binsar, Uttarakhand

At Mary Budden Estate, there is no dearth of stunning natural beauty, heritage, and a lot of peace and quiet that we all have come to love so much. The stay will most definitely take you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Mary Budden Estate is also a sustainable destination in itself. The heritage resort gets all of its water from rainwater harvesting.

Brij Anayra in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh

This charming 161-year-old heritage property is spread across 10 acres, surrounded by lush green tea plantations, offering sublime views of both valleys and mighty snow-capped peaks. Brij Anayra was formerly known as White Haven, and it served initially as home to tea planters and explorers, and later, as the residence of visiting British Viceroys. Cool climate, peaceful environment, unhurried vacation and the best of luxury – these are the things you are going to get here.

Aahana The Corbett Wilderness in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand

It is one of your best options for a wild holiday this summer. It’s not only one of the best and most impressive luxury resorts in north India, its proximity to the country’s oldest national park – Jim Corbett National Park – makes it a great option for those looking for a unique nature holiday. Did we mention that the resort shares its wall with the Bijrani Zone of the national park? The resort’s commitment towards nature is evident. From award-winning sewage treatment plants to expansive green cover, the resort is inspiring.

Presidium Sarovar Premiere in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh

Located amidst the picturesque landscapes of Dalhousie, Presidium Sarovar Premiere offers a perfect blend of comfort and luxury. Enjoy spacious rooms equipped with modern amenities and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Indulge in delicious cuisine at their in-house restaurant, and unwind with a refreshing swim in the pool.

Ananda in the Himalayas in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

Ananda has made a name for itself in the world of holistic wellness. Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan foothills, Ananda was the former Palace Estate of the Maharaja of Tehri-Garhwal. Spanning across 100 acres, the resort boasts healthy forests, world-class wellness facilities and a place to quietly enjoy the sounds of nature and meditate.

Rakkh Resort in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh

Rakkh Resort is surrounded by spectacular mountains, and promises a peaceful and a cool summer vacation. Rakkh Resort’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement is beyond impressive. From no-plastic zones and responsible waste management to reviving mountain streams and hiring local staff to preserve the tangible and intangible heritage.

Nimmu House in Ladakh

This charming eco-resort is nestled at 10,000 feet in the traditional village of Nimmo, located just 45 minutes from Leh. If you have Leh-Ladakh on your summer bucket list, then Nimmu is a good option. The resort offers an ideal stay for travellers who are looking for a cultural and adventurous holiday in Ladakh.

8 Things To Know Before Visiting Jammu

Jammu: A Tale of History, Faith and Nature

Located in the foothills of the towering Himalayas is Jammu the winter capital of Northern India's Jammu & Kashmir state. With sprawling forests, icy mountain peaks, ancient temples and grand forts to its name, Jammu offers travelers an enchanting experience for all senses.

As you gear up for your upcoming trip to this city, here are some key things to remember

1.Spiritual Essence

  • Home to Many Religions
  • Jammu houses famous Hindu shrines alongside Islamic dargahs and Sikh gurudwaras that show off its rich composite culture.
  • The Raghunath Temple Complex is one of North India's biggest temple complexes with tall "Rajas" or turrets and numerous sanctums dedicated to many deities. It is a sight you wouldn't want to miss when you're here.
  • Located amidst lush greenery, the Bawe Wali Mata temple and Peer Baba shrine attract large numbers of devotees who come here seeking blessings.

2.The Divine Vaishno Devi Yatra

  • One of India's most revered pilgrimages is the trek up to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi situated in the Trikuta hills. Millions brave through it every year.
  • Pilgrims chant devotional songs while they embark on the long journey through forests and mountains. Halfway through at Adhkawari temple they halt briefly to seek blessings from the Goddess.
  • Various facilities and security measures are taken care of by authorities for smooth operations throughout this pilgrimage season.

3.Culture & Festivities

  • Vibrant Celebrations
  • The 9-day Navratri festival sees exploding fairs at various temples across Jammu which put on display local dances, music and handicrafts for tourists like yourself to witness.
  • Kala Kendra hosts an annual Jammu festival in November that features cultural performances, literary seminars, heritage walks and a bustling handicrafts bazaar.

4.Fusion Food

  • Jammu's cuisine has been influenced by flavors from various parts of the country including Punjab, Kashmir and South India. Some specialties you ought to try when you're here are rajma-rice, chole-puri and special breads like kulcha.
  • Besides this, dishes like phirni (rice pudding), gud papdi and kalaari pair perfectly with Kesar gulshan's famous saffron tea or Kashmiri kahwa.

5.Nature's Bounty

  • Scenic Vistas
  • The hill station of Patnitop located near Jammu is sure to offer travelers a picturesque time be it during summer or winter activities such as paragliding and skiing are offered respectively.
  • Camping and boating are among the many other things you could do at Sanasar and Mansar lake that share the same stunning emerald waters amidst a forested hills backdrop.

6.Historic Sites

  • Remnants of Bygone Days
  • Bahu Fort above the Tawi river overlooks the old city quarters of Jammu Bagh where it gets its name from. The complex boasts numerous shrines dedicated to various Hindu deities along with shops that sell everything from souvenirs to food items.
  • Adventure seekers who climb up to the ruined Simthan top will come across aqueducts, stone edifices hidden in dense foliage that once were an important part of this structure.
  • Mubarak Mandi palace complex houses offices, museums, a palace and courtyards littered with baradaris that showcase architectural influences dating back centuries ago.

7.Travel Pointers

  • Getting To Jammu
  • The city's airport connects via direct flights to major Indian cities like Delhi, Srinagar, Mumbai and Amritsar.
  • Jammu is also well-connected by national highways as well as private & state transport buses that operate within nearby tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh as well as the Arabic-style structures in Kashmir.

8.Things To Remember

  • Keep a valid ID proof handy. Despite low crime rates, do take precautions when you find yourself in isolated areas and dimly lit alleys at night time.
  • Always ask for permission before taking pictures of locals or any official/military establishments.
  • Wear modest clothing and remember to remove your footwear before entering these sacred sites as a sign of respect to religious sentiments.
  • Jammu's sweeping vistas, ancient temples and regal ruins are bound to leave you speechless. We hope this guide helps you plan your holiday better! Have an amazing trip ahead.

The Link tower and home of One&Only One Za’abeel

The January 1 unveiling of One&Only inside the daring new One Za’abeel tower marks the brand’s first-ever urban resort, which might seem like a peculiar proposition in a city where One&Only already has two more traditional beach resorts—one at the base of the Palm Jumeirah and the other presiding over the man-made island’s outermost frond. And yet, there’s perhaps no better place in the world to test out an ambitious new concept than in a city known for its gravity-defying, luxury-defining hotels.

One&Only’s latest iteration is about creating Zen against the cityscape of Dubai, and because this is Dubai, no ordinary skyscraper will do. The One&Only and the new  SIRO (Dubai’s first wellness themed hotel) are both from the Kerzner International umbrella. They inhabit a pair of skyscrapers connected by the 750-foot-long “Link,” which resembles a precariously perched glass Lego block jutting out into the air. Inside the sleek horizontal cantilever (the world’s longest, of course) are restaurants and bars from a menagerie of global chefs including Tetsuya Wakuda, Anne-Sophie Pic, and Paco Morales. Rooms start at $835 per night.

A suite at One&Only One Za’abeel

A few minutes south in the Business Bay district,  the Lana  (from roughly $925) is the first Middle Eastern member of the Dorchester Collection which debuted on February 1. It occupies a 30-story Foster + Partners–designed tower on the Dubai Canal. Sure, Dubai may have a bit of a reputation for assembling a pastiche of elements of global cities on the banks of the Arabian Gulf, but the Lana elegantly transports Europe to the UAE with a series of clever design choices. Here marble meets wood, bold floral patterns mingle with soft jewel-toned velvets, and every turn reveals a new mix of textures and textiles that blend together seamlessly.

In Spanish chef Martín Berasategui’s Basque restaurant Jara, a sexy pink bar swirls under orange light fixtures resembling embers hovering in the air. At the hidden-away cigar lounge Txakolina, metal curtains, purple velvets, and dark leathers come together to create a sexy speakeasy. And in the Dior Spa, neutral ecru spaces are enlivened with the label’s signature blue Toile de Jouy motif.

There are duplex suites with mirrored ceilings and tubs seemingly vast enough to fit the Burj (it certainly looks close enough to join you). The result is a surprisingly soft, alluringly sensual new addition to an area known more for its residential towers and business hotels.

A dining room at One&Only One Za’abeel

And given that neither of these properties sees itself as a business hotel, each is determined to carve out its own ways to establish itself as a leisure hub.

Meanwhile, the Lana’s Promenade is forging a new marina-side food destination that promises to be a hit with guests and locals alike. Guests looking to add sand to their stay can head to a private beach on the Palm Jumeirah (zip over in the Lana’s Rolls-Royce or sail across by boat along the canal).

But what makes each of these new additions so exciting is the serenity they bring to new pockets of Dubai—in the heart of this fever dream of a city, tranquility is the most important amenity.

Middle-East remains among the top picks for the Indian honeymoon market, given its proximity and engaging excursions. Qatar, being the most sought-after country in the region, offers the ideal grounds for couples to explore the destination, which is filled with heritage marvels and modern amenities. Doha is known for its busy bazaars, museums, and locales to explore Middle Eastern cuisine and art; couples can venture into the golden deserts to witness the extravagance of the Inland Sea. Equipped with best-in-class water sports, calming beaches, and other luxury-laced activities to explore, tailored experiences make Qatar a top pick for honeymooners.

A popular South Asian destination frequented by Indian travellers, Bangkok – the capital of Thailand, showcases the country’s culture and adventure and is ideal for couples because of its vibrant nightlife, shopping centres, and more. With its ancient attractions like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun, couples can learn about Thai heritage and culture. The mouth-watering street food and rooftop diners, along with the option to even get on a romantic cruise on the Chao Phraya River, make it a top pick for honeymooners from India.

3. Sri Lanka

Given its strategic proximity to India, Sri Lanka is a go-to destination for Indians. Sri Lanka’s tourism products have evolved interestingly in the recent past, with quality hospitality and activities developing throughout the country. The island country is home to wildlife, rich heritage, calm beaches, and speciality restaurants promoting local cuisines to give a momentous experience for honeymooners. Some of the popular attractions in Sri Lanka are Udawalawe National Park, Adam’s Peak, Kandy, Negombo, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Anuradhapura, Bentota, etc., to explore whale and dolphin watching, ancient dagobas, safari adventures, tea plantations, etc.

Yet another Middle-Eastern gem, Dubai remains a top pick for honeymooners for its luxe and extravagant experiences. The cosmopolitan city is lined with innumerable skyscrapers, home to man-made Palm Islands and serves as a shopper’s paradise with the world’s largest shopping mall. Couples can explore the city’s charm with the desert in the surroundings to experience varied activities like desert safari, camel rides, dune bashing, etc.; the luxury yachts in the marina can also be explored for best-in-class luxurious hospitality. Burj Khalifa Lake, Burj Al Arab, etc., are popular attractions which must not be missed by honeymooners.

5. Maldives

Honeymoongoers from India have it set in their minds that whenever it comes to spending the dreamy honeymoon, this island destination tops the list. The Maldives has ruled over the honeymoon market in India and the world over popularly for its bespoke hotels and resorts, seaplane experiences, clear waters, tranquillity, and, of course, the marine life and therapeutic water activities.

The destination has a range of attractive honeymoon packages to explore while being on a budget. Some popular locations in Maldives that couples can consider are Baa Atoll, Majeedhee Magu, Ari Atoll, etc. Malé, the capital city of the island destination, is popular for its local foods and museums, which couples can explore on a short haul before leaving for the trips to their respective island where they have their stay arranged.

Hence, experiencing peaceful beaches, breathtaking activities, stunning modern skylines, and global cuisines and packing a bunch of memories with the better half doesn’t demand to be an expensive affair. The dreamy budget honeymoon destinations are just a few clicks away!

Air India and All Nippon Airways to begin codeshare partnership for travel between India and Japan

' src=

Air India, India’s global airline, and All Nippon Airways, the largest Japanese carrier, have signed a codeshare agreement connecting their networks.  The new commercial partnership will provide more travel opportunities for customers of both airlines, who will benefit from the enhanced flight selections between India and Japan.

With this agreement, effective for travel from 23 May 2024, Air India and All Nippon Airways guests will fly to their desired destination by combining those flights between India and Japan with a single ticket. In addition, guests of both airlines flying on codeshare flights will enjoy premium services such as lounge access and priority boarding that Star Alliance offers to its premium members.

Available for sale from 23 April 2024, Air India will add its ‘AI’ designator code on ANA’s flights between Tokyo Haneda and Delhi as well as Tokyo Narita and Mumbai, while All Nippon Airways will add its ‘NH’ designator code on Air India’s flight between Tokyo Narita and Delhi. Air India and ANA are considering further expanding their cooperation on additional routes.

“This codeshare agreement with All Nippon Airways marks an important step forward in connecting India and Japan,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer, Air India. “This collaboration broadens our network connectivity and offers our guests seamless travel experiences and a wider choice of flights between the two countries. We look forward to a successful collaboration with ANA and exploring further avenues for cooperation in the future.”

This agreement will contribute to further consolidate the economic and commercial relations between India and Japan and will offer Indian tourists the opportunity to broadly discover the wonders of Japan and to Japanese citizens the opportunity to easily travel to India, ensuring the highest standards of safety.

“We look forward to building this strategic partnership with Air India, as it is a significant step towards furthering stronger air connectivity and enhancing customer experience between Japan and India,” said Katsuya Goto, Member of the Board and Executive Vice President of Alliances and International Affairs, All Nippon Airways. “This collaboration is a testament to ANA’s commitment to improving the air travel experience for all of its travellers and we hope this will lead to a seamless travel environment between our two nations.”
