Lee Greenwood Announces 2022 40 Years of Hits Tour — See the Dates!
If ever the world needed a little more Lee Greenwood , it is now. And the world will get plenty of the country music legend in 2022, as Greenwood heads out on his 40 Years of Hits Tour starting in January.
“This announcement is only the beginning of what is shaping up to be a record year for us,” says Greenwood, who's exclusively sharing the big news with Taste of Country. “I have not done such a major tour in many years; normally it is one or two in a row and back home. This tour is going to have me performing at places from small to large, fair to festival, and everything in between.”
The "God Bless the USA” hitmaker has seen a career resurgence of sorts as of late, as the country continues to grapple with our differences while trying, at the same time, to come together as proud members of this nation. That anthem will have an almost certain spot on Greenwood’s setlist.
But even more so, the 40 Years of Hits Tour will focus on the multiple hits that have made Greenwood the artist he is today. With more than twenty Top 10 singles including “It Turns Me Inside Out,” “Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands,” and “She’s Lyin’,” Greenwood has snagged a slew of Grammy, CMA and ACM Awards throughout the years. Add that to the work he has done as a philanthropist, and odds are good that this tour will be one of the feel-good events of 2022.
Earlier this year, Greenwood’s contributions to country music were recognized during the All-Star Salute to Lee Greenwood, in which stars including Michael Ray , Lee Brice and the Oak Ridge Boys came together at Huntsville’s Von Braun Center to give praise for the country music singer-songwriter’s illustrious career.

The live Lee Greenwood show at the Margaritaville Resort Casino in Bossier City, LA, was, without a doubt, the best live show I've ever seen.Lee Greenwood is a multi-talented country singer and song writer and he's been entertaining his fans for more than four decades, so to see him perform live was super exciting. The venue was packed full of people of all ages and types, and that says Greenwood fans know no boundaries. While there was ample seating, everyone stood to enjoy the show, clearly enjoying themselves, clapping, swaying, singing along, and some people were even dancing.Greenwood's first song was "Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands," a sentimental ballad that sort of started the night out on a slower note. Things picked up, though, as he continued on into his other hits, including "It Turns Me Inside Our" and "Somebody's Gonna Love You." By the end of the 90 minute show, the audience was going crazy, shouting for Greenwood to perform his most notable song, "God Bless the USA," which he did with pleasure.I'm so happy I got the chance to see Lee Greenwood live. He's a country music legend and his show was as classy as he is. If I have the chance to see him again, I will!

I've known Lee Greenwood since I was 23 years old, dealing Blackjack at the Tropicana in 1974. At that time, he dealt cards by day and at night he played with Frankie Carr and the Noveletts. He has such a fantastic raspy voice, sounds so sexy, andhe just gets better and better with every song he sings. He is quite a showman and is a wonderful friend. God Bless You Lee, and I'm so proud to be a friend. Of course we lost touch as your wonderful voice made you the man, father, husband, and Star Performer you are today. Take care sweetie, Your friend forever !!
I listen to your music all the time. You did it, and I knew you would. Love ya, TREE (Anita Cosby)

I saw Lee Greenwood in concert at the Nutter Center in Dayton Ohio around 1996 or so. Awesome concert! Even got backstage to meet him, and he was so kind, got a hug! My parents went to his concert in Gatlinburg several years later, met him, showed him my picture and he was able to accurately tell them about meeting me! I would love to see him in concert again!
I enjoyed Lee Greenwood’s concert last night at Vernon Downs! Considering the hour and half rain delay with thunder & lightning, he put on a great show! He is very uplifting and positive and enjoyed all the great songs he sang, concert proceeds went the homeless, and honoring first offenders, policemen, etc. I loved Lee Greenwood!
I enjoyed the music but couldn't see the stage very well because of a wall and a fence. I definitely would go to see Lee Greenwood again. He is my favorite.

Lee Greenwood’s On-Screen Tribute Concert to Honor Veterans
By moviguide® contributor.
“God Bless the U.S.A.” singer and Movieguide® Award winner Lee Greenwood will honor vets during his on-screen tribute concert this Veteran’s Day, November 12.
Dolly Parton, Kid Rock, Paula Deen and President George W. Bush have all been added to the lineup.
According to the American Songwriter , “The tribute will feature a number of star-studded performances of Greenwood’s hit songs. Previously announced acts include Dustin Lynch, Lee Brice, Michael Ray, Michael W. Smith + The Isaacs, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tracy Lawrence, Big & Rich, Jamey Johnson, Gavin DeGraw, Scott Stapp of Creed, Crystal Gayle, Sam Moore + T. Graham Brown, Larry Gatlin + Debby Boone, Mark Wills, Home Free, The Frontmen, Ty Herndon + Janie Fricke, and more.”
“On the night we filmed this special, I was overwhelmed and overjoyed at the same time,” Greenwood said in a statement. “I couldn’t believe so many great artists came to honor my music. On top of that, my entire family sat in the front row to witness this magical evening with me. I could not have been prouder.”
“Now, to share that special night with veterans, first responders, and country music fans with this premiere presentation in theaters is a perfect way to celebrate my 40-year career, which has included honoring so many of them,” he added .
The singer previously shared why he wanted to film this special event.
“I performed at the George Jones Farewell concert, which was supposed to be his last show, but turned into a tribute show — and they didn’t film it,” said Greenwood. “I reflect on that day as over 100 artists were all together for one reason, and that was to honor a friend. I wished they would have taped it so we could reminisce about that special day. So when they discussed doing this special tribute to my career, I only wanted to do it if they filmed it so anyone that can’t be there in person can celebrate with us at a later date.”
Duane Allen, member of the Oak Ridge Boys, added , “What is more patriotic than Lee Greenwood’s ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’? To honor those who served and those currently serving along with Greenwood is something very dear to my heart. I get to travel and perform all over the U.S. because of the freedoms that I am granted due to those protecting this great nation. I am thrilled to get to be part of this special night.”
For the tribute, Greenwood teamed up with Concerts 4 A Cause so that those who attend the concert can sponsor a veteran and a caregiver or guest to enjoy the event as well.
“Concerts 4 A Cause is on a mission to send 50,000 VETERANS and FIRST RESPONDERS to movie theaters across America on Veteran’s Day for FREE! Help us honor those heroes with tickets to this one-night-only theatrical premiere!” the organization stated .
“Throughout his career, Greenwood has won multiple CMA and ACM awards, in addition to a Grammy for Top Male Vocal Performance in 1985 for ‘I.O.U.’ His career spans 22 albums, along with seven compilations, and seven No. 1 hits. Those hits are ‘Don’t Underestimate My Love For You,’ ‘Hearts Aren’t Made to Break (They’re Made to Love),’ ‘Mornin’ Ride,’ ‘Somebody’s Gonna Love You,’ ‘Going, Going, Gone,’ ‘Dixie Road,’ and ‘I Don’t Mind the Thorns (If You’re the Rose),’” American Songwriter stated .
Movieguide® previously reported on Greenwood’s induction into the CPAC Hall of Fame:
Movieguide ® Awards performer Lee Greenwood was honored on Sunday at the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) Florida 2022 conference as the third individual inducted into the CPAC Hall of Fame. Lee Greenwood is best known for his hit song “God Bless The U.S.A.” which was released in 1983 and has become one of the most recognizable patriotic songs in America. President George W. Bush nominated Greenwood to sit on the National Endowment to the Arts Council and he has served in that capacity under four U.S. Presidents. “Being inducted into the CPAC Hall of Fame would make Presidents Reagan and H.W. Bush and their respective wives First Lady Nancy Reagan and Barbara Bush so proud. They were dear friends and believed in me, my career, and what ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’ stood for,” said Lee Greenwood. “I am honored and thankful for this moment as hit records and yearly award shows come and go, but the Hall of Fame is forever!”

Legendary singer Lee Greenwood makes surprise announcement about retirement plans: 'So grateful'
'god bless the usa' hitmaker says his 'last year to tour' will take place in 2024.

Country music legend Lee Greenwood is set to call it quits after more than 40 years in the music industry.
Greenwood – a Grammy award-winning artist most known for his signature song "God Bless the U.S.A." – confirmed he would be retiring at the end of his 2024 tour during a podcast interview with 17-year-old Brilyn Hollyhand, a co-chair of the Republican National Committee's (RNC) youth advisory council.
"There are rumors of you potentially retiring at the end of 2024. Are those rumors true?" Hollyhand, the editor-in-chief of The Truth Gazette and host of " The Brilyn Hollyhand Show " podcast, asked Greenwood prior to his Nov. 9 concert in Montgomery, Alabama.
"It's not just a rumor. It will be my last year to tour," Greenwood responded, though he and his team have yet to decide on where he will deliver his final performance.

Unlike other artists who have announced retirements in the past, Greenwood said his final performances won't be "one of those farewell and then come back next year" types of tours.
Greenwood, who turned 81 last month, said he's looking to retire to spend more time with his family as he grows older and pointed to certain health factors that moved him to make the decision.
"I just turned 81. This is a factor. I've had some surgeries. I have titanium knees, I have a titanium cage in my back with 10 screws.... I just I don't think I can do this much longer with the two boys in college," Greenwood said, explaining his decision to retire from the industry.
The singer also noted the importance of spending time with his wife of 31 years, former Miss Tennessee USA Kimberly Payne, saying " she has yet to have my total time."
"It's only fair, I think, that I back away at this point and have no distractions but her and I and give these last few years that I will live to her and my two sons," he added. "So that's a big decision, and I know it is."

In a message to those who have supported him throughout his career, Greenwood said, "I'm so grateful for the years that they come to my shows continually."
"Here I am at the end of my career, and they still come, and they still hear me sing the same 40 songs that I've sang for 40 years," Greenwood told Hollyhand with a laugh.
Named one of the top 100 artists of all time by Billboard Magazine, Greenwood rose to prominence in the 1980s following the release of his first single, "It Turns Me Inside Out," which topped out at No. 17 on the country music charts. That song was followed up by Greenwood with the release of several other Top 10 hits, including "Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hand," "IOU" and "She’s Lying."
In 1983, Greenwood released his first No. 1 hit, which was titled "Somebody’s Gonna Love You."
One year later, in 1984, Greenwood released "God Bless the U.S.A.," a song meant to unite Americans. He wrote it in the back of his tour bus in 1983.
"‘USA’ is the song I always felt the need to write," Greenwood said of the hit in 2013. "I wanted to have something that would unite Americans from coast to coast. I wanted to instill pride back in the United States. The song represents my family, my community and those men and women who have paid the price for the freedoms we all love and enjoy."

Originally released in the spring of 1984, Greenwood's patriotic song was later used in a film about former President Ronald Reagan that was shown at the Republican National Convention that year.
Greenwood's work has received a wide variety of praise throughout the years and has been supported in recent history by several prominent politicians.
"God Bless the U.S.A." has become a cornerstone of former President Donald Trump's campaign rallies across the country and is often played over the loudspeakers as the president takes the stage. The record was also played at a number of White House events and gatherings during Trump's tenure in office.
In 2019, Trump appointed Greenwood to serve on the board of trustees at the Kennedy Center.

Greenwood was also appointed by former President George W. Bush to join the National Council on the Arts in 2008, but was replaced by President Biden's administration in 2021.

Greenwood, who said he learned of the replacement through an email, said he was "shocked" about it during a September 2021 appearance on "Fox and Friends."
"You know, it’s a six-year appointment and I was appointed by George W. Bush 43. So I served under his term. Also, President Obama’s term. Of course, President Trump’s term. And then as you know he used my song ‘God Bless the USA,’ which is unilateral for me. It’s meant for all people, not just for a particular political party," he added at the time.

Foreigner named to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, including original drummer in SW Florida
After five decades of rock 'n' roll, Foreigner will finally get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame . And that includes the band's original drummer, Dennis Elliot of Lee County.
The Hall of Fame announced its 2024 inductees Monday on "American Idol" and the Hall's website.
"Foreigner has dominated rock & roll radio, making them one of the best-selling rock bands of all time," the Hall wrote on its website. "With worldwide sales topping eighty million records, Foreigner’s extensive catalog of hits is still recognizable to this day, with their music embedded in pop culture from Miami Vice and The Simpsons to Arrested Development and Stranger Things."
Foreigner drummer lives in Lee County, Florida
Elliot has lived in Lee County for years. He recently joined Foreigner onstage for "Hot Blooded" during the band's March 13 tour stop at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in south Fort Myers.
Elliot had been encouraging fans and friends to vote for three months on Facebook.
"Foreigner finally nominated to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," Elliot wrote several times in March. "Fans around the world can vote."
Born in London, Elliot played in Foreigner from 1976 through 1993. He now works as a sculptor in wood.
Elliot declined to comment to The News-Press and Naples Daily News, citing his desire for privacy.
Foreigner’s many '70s and '80s hits include “Juke Box Hero,” “Urgent,” “I Want To Know What Love Is” and “Feels Like the First Time.” Guitarist Mick Jones is the only original member left in the current version of Foreigner.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 inductees
In all, eight musical acts were announced Monday as 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. They are:
- Mary J. Blige
- Dave Matthews Band
- Peter Frampton
- Kool & The Gang
- Ozzy Osbourne
- And A Tribe Called Quest
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will honor its new inductees with an Oct. 19 ceremony at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland. The ceremony will stream live on Disney+ and the next day on Hulu.
The Rock Hall cited Foreigner's original lineup in its website announcement, including songwriters Lou Gramm and Mick Jones.
"Foreigner was built around the creative forces of Lou Gramm and Mick Jones, whose original vision for Foreigner was a fusion of rock, progressive rock, R&B, and pop sounds," the Hall website says. "And the lineup of Jones, Dennis Elliot, Al Greenwood, Ed Gagliardi, and Ian McDonald, paired with Lou Gramm’s distinctive and emotive vocals, brought it all together.
"Jones and Gramm became legendary songwriting partners, crafting an arsenal of multiplatinum albums and Top Thirty hits, including “Cold As Ice,” “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Juke Box Hero.” Their Number One U.S. hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” remains one of the Top 25 performed songs from the ASCAP catalog."
To be eligible for induction, a musical act must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to their nomination.
