Hunza & Phandar Valley Autumn Tour - Pakistan
We were a bit anxious about Pakistan before the trip. However, Karim Tajik gave us good confidence. He is trustworthy and knowledgeable. The trip went smoothly from the planning stage until field execution. Autumn in Hunza is amazing. We also had many chances to interact with local community as Hunza Explorers is a truly local company. All the guides and staff are Hunza people. That is why they are well-educated and very kind. Highly appreciate Hunza Explorers company for any trip to Pakistan.
Hunza Valley & Fairy Meadows Tour, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Having been referred through family, I knew that we would enjoy our experience with Crossroads Adventure. My main concerns were safety, having fun, and activity accommodations for a wide range of family members (13 yo - 74 yo). Still, I was not expecting to have my expectations exceeding by leaps and bounds. I started planning for this trip a year in advance and Sultan (Owner) was respectful and responsive to every single request - customizing our trip to match our exact needs. Upon arrival we were greeted by a designated tour guide, Nawaz, who first came to me to confirm my daughter’s food allergies and ensure they would take every precaution available. I couldn’t believe this was top of mind for them from the beginning (having been treated extremely poorly by many airlines and others regarding this matter) and knew immediately this trip was going to be different. The actual itinerary was exactly what I had envisioned with some over the top adventure, long car rides enjoying the unparalleled and ever changing terrain, amazing food, and a taste of history. We enjoyed a family experience that will be cherished for years to come. For anyone even remotely considering such a trip, don’t delay - you won’t regret it! Thank you Crossroads Adventure for going above and beyond in hosting us in Northern Pakistan - we are already planning our next adventure!

My husband and I have had the pleasure of using Karim as a tour guide. We have taken a trip through “Hunza Explorers” in Pakistan in December 2018. Karim is diligent, thorough and professional. His knowledge and expertise of traveling in Pakistan has been invaluable to us. He has always been on top of everything from the moment we presented him with our travel ideas. Karim is energetic and easy to work with. Karim has been at our constant disposal before and after our trip. Working with us on heritage tours of Pakistan, he helped make our trip memorable and great experience. We didn’t think it could get much better, but we just returned from a 3-week trip to Pakistan that Karim crafted and it was a trip of a lifetime. Everything ran like clockwork. Karim is now handcrafting our next trip to Hunza Pakistan this year and again He is right on target – we highly recommend Karim and Hunza Explorers for all of your travel needs.
11 Days Trek Nanga Parbat Base Camp & Hunza Gojal Valley Pakistan
I had a wonderful trip with Rock Valley Tours Pvt Ltd. The whole trip is enjoyable. Both our guide Manzoor and driver Qasim are friendly and helpful. During the trip, we faced a small scale landslide which blocked our road. Manzoor and some other locals worked hard to clean up and resumed the traffic, so that we did not need to turn back and can go as scheduled.

Thallay La Trek
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Thalay La trek in Pakistan. This trekking trip is one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my lifetime. From breathtaking landscapes to local cultures and cuisine, this experience had so much to offer. The trek began with a 4o minutes flight from Islamabad to Skardu. Once arriving at the starting point, we quickly got acclimatized with the hike, which lasted 5 days and 4 nights. The services offered by BTV is amazing. Everything from accommodation, food, guides, camping, & porters were amazing. A Highly recommended Trip.

Exploring the Hunza Valley in November 2023 was a captivating experience. Despite the chilly weather, the breathtaking landscape of towering mountains, vibrant autumn colors, and crystal-clear rivers made every moment enchanting. The warmth of the local hospitality added an extra layer of charm to the journey. However, it's essential to prepare for colder temperatures and occasional rain. Overall, Hunza Valley in November is a photographer's paradise and a soul-soothing retreat for nature enthusiasts.

Southern Pakistan: Journey Through The Indus Valley
To view images fullscreen please turn device
Enigmatic, edgy and intriguing, Pakistan often makes the headlines for all the wrong reasons. However, it is a land filled with colour and contrast, offering the adventurous traveller a stunning wealth of culture, tradition and natural beauty.
This remarkable journey travels through the Indus Valley encompassing everything from Sufi tombs and desert fortresses, to bustling bazaars and lively cities, as we travel from the streets of Karachi and deep into the Punjab.
Beginning in ...
Beginning in Karachi we’ll have a chance to explore one of Pakistan’s most exciting and historic cities, discover the tombs of some of the country’s most revered mystics and poets, visit the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Mohenjo-daro and travel into the deserts of Cholistan to see the imposing fortress of Derawar. In Multan we explore the renowned City of the Sufis, before moving on to Lahore, the cultural heart of the Punjab. The second largest city after Karachi, it offers a backdrop of the traditional walled city and the chaos and clamour of one of the most vibrant cities in the country, where we discover the historic and religious reminders of the Moghul, Sikh and British Empires.
At a glance
On this tour we will use minibuses or coaster buses depending on the group size.
EXPERT TEAM
Accommodation, entrance fees, fitness rating.
As an overall ethos, wherever possible we aim to use characterful accommodation that enhances the overall travel experience, not just offers a bed for the night. This can obviously vary dramatically from country to country and from trip to trip.On this particular trip we will be in a mixture of good quality hotels in the larger cities, to some smaller and more functional hotels in the towns. Please note that the accommodation mentioned in the itinerary is intended as a guide only and is always subject to availability.
Wild Miles Club
When you book a trip with Wild Frontiers you are awarded points, which are based on the return distance from London to the arrival city of your trip. Positive Impact of this Trip
Map & itinerary.
Individual departures may vary so please refer to the information in the tour specific links in the Dates and Prices section below
Day 1 Tour starts in Karachi
This afternoon we will begin our tour of the city with a visit to the Shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi. Born in Medina in 720 AD and widely revered throughout Pakistan, he was considered the patron saint of Karachi. Later we will have an opportunity to visit Clifton Beach, the National Museum and the Mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Day 2 Karachi – Hyderabad
Departing Karachi after breakfast this morning, we'll drive on to the city of Hyderabad. The journey takes us by way of the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Makli Hill, home to one of the largest necropolises in the world, and the Shah Jahan Mosque at Thatta, built during the golden age of Mughal architecture. Time permitting, we can also enjoy brief stops at the Chaukhandi tombs and the ancient port city of Bhanbore.
Day 3 Hyderabad – Larkana
From Hyderabad the adventure continues through the north-west regions of Sindh province, towards the historic city of Larkana. Stops en route at the shrines of the famous Sufi saints of Lal Shahbaz Qalander and Abdul Latif Bhittai provide a chance to discover more about these revered mystics, philosophers and poets, before continuing on to our overnight stop in Larkana, on the banks of the River Indus.
Day 4 Larkana – Sukkur
Larkana is home to one of the largest and oldest settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation. The site at Mohenjo-daro (Mound of the Dead) was abandoned as far back as the 19th century BC. Here we will have the chance to visit this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site. We continue in the afternoon to the village of Ranipur to the archeological and historical site of Kot Diji Fort, formally known as Fort Ahmadabad. Built between 1785 and 1795 by Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur, founder of the Upper Sindh Kingdom in 1783, the fort was strategically placed on the edge of the desert to intercept any enemies approaching from the east before they could refresh their supplies after a long journey through the desert. Our journey today ends in Sukkur where we can admire the impressive Sukkur Barrage, an engineering marvel of this region.
Day 5 Sukkur – Bahawalpur
A full day's drive takes us north on to Bahawalpur, once part of an independent princely state that was founded in 1802 by Nawab Mohammad Bahawal Khan II. The road passes by the city of Uch Sharif, which was believed to have been founded by Alexander the Great in 325 BC at the confluence of the Indus and Chenab Rivers. Here we stop to visit the beautiful tomb of Bibi Jawindi, one of the five monuments in Uch village which today is a pilgrimage site for Muslims visiting Sufi shrines. From here we then complete the journey on to Bahawalpur.
Day 6 Bahawalpur
Following breakfast we will drive into the remote landscapes of the Cholistan Desert to pay a visit to the imposing setting of Derawar Fort. With the increasing irrigation from the Indus the desert has receded and been replaced by cultivated fields now quite close to the fort which is surrounded by scrubland. Built by the Rajput Bhati, the fortress dominates the desert around it, with 40 towering bastions that stand over 30 metres in height. A visit to the fort and the royal tombs of the Bahawalpur Nawabs is followed by a visit to a local village, before returning to Bahawalpur for a second night.
Day 7 Bahawalpur – Multan
A morning tour of Bahawalpur today provides an opportunity to discover a little something of its historic and cultural highlights relating to the local Nawabs, along with modern day local market. Departing the city after the visit, we'll then head on towards Multan, located on the banks of the Chenab River.
Day 8 Multan
Multan (Madinat-ul-Auliya) is known as the City of the Sufis, or the City of the Saints, largely due to the abundant number of Sufi shrines that lie scattered across the city. Amongst the monuments that we will visit today are included the shrines of Shah Rukn-i-Alam, Bhahuddin Zikria and Shams Tabraz. We'll also have an opportunity to spend some time exploring the Old Bazaar.
Day 9 Multan – Lahore
From Multan the journey next takes us on to the capital of the Punjab, as we drive to Lahore, the largest Punjabi city in the world and the country’s cultural and artistic capital. Stopping en route at the famous archaeological site at Harappa, we'll have a chance to discover the remains of a Bronze Age fortified city whose origins have been dated back to 2600BC. This afternoon we continue our journey to the colonial city of Lahore where we stay for the next three nights.
Days 10 - 11 Lahore
The historic capital of both the Moghul and Sikh empires, the city also played a significant part in the British governance of the Punjab. Home to a remarkable collection of cultural and historic highlights, our tour over the next two days includes visits to the Lahore Museum, the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort along with several local shrines and mosques. Along with visits to the old town, we will also head out east to the Wagah Border to witness the dramatic flag lowering ceremony.
Day 12 Tour ends Lahore
This morning the tour ends in Lahore.
PRIVATE HOLIDAYS: DATES DON’T FIT?
All group tours can be taken on a private basis.
Additional Details
Responsible travel.
With local people, culture and eco-systems in mind, responsible travel and sustainable tourism are at the core of Wild Frontiers. We believe that a successful trip not only delivers a unique and unsurpassable journey for our travellers but also benefits the people and places we visit. When designing our tours, we actively seek out experiences that have a positive impact on the communities and precious environments we visit - from supporting social enterprises; resting our heads in rural homestays; and eating at locally owned restaurants; to helping fund conservation projects that protect wildlife and their habitats. Visit the Responsible Travel area of our website to read more, including the work of the Wild Frontiers Foundation through which we fundraise to aid community empowerment and education projects.
Reducing Single Use Plastic
We recognise the environmental issues and challenges around single-use plastic in many countries we visit and are actively working with our partners on the ground to reduce plastic waste on our tours and within the hotels and restaurants we visit. You can help to reduce your personal plastic waste by taking a refillable, filtered water bottle with you on your trip. Filtered water bottles can be refilled from water sources including your hotel room and restaurant taps, drinking fountains and refill stations. Every time you refill your bottle without the use of single-use plastic, you will be helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Governmental Travel Advice
Many governments issue advice which highlights potential hazards their citizens might experience when travelling abroad. We strongly suggest you refer to your country’s particular advisory site before booking and contact us if you have any queries or concerns. Click to follow links to the advice of the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or the US State Department . Non-UK citizens should consult the travel advice of their respective governments.
The FCDO sometimes advises against certain parts of this itinerary. Wild Frontiers has many years’ experience of running trips which contravene FCDO advice but these decisions that are never taken lightly and are always taken in conjunction with our local partners after extensive consultation. As part of the booking process, you will need to sign a disclaimer to confirm you have read the advice, that you are still happy to travel and that you will obtain travel insurance which is not invalidated by the FCDO advice. On this tour the FCDO currently advise against all but essential travel to areas of Sindh Province north of, and including, the city of Nawabshah. This effectively equates to much of DAYS 3-5 of the itinerary, however please note that this information is subject to change. For more information, please see the Insurance section or contact us. Non-UK clients should be sure to check the travel advice of their own governments as well as the small print of their insurance policies. Anyone in a reasonable state of health, with an open mind and a sense of adventure should be perfectly able to cope with this tour. However, please note that this is Southern Pakistan and has long been off the tourist trail due to political strife and unrest. As such we may have police escorts during certain parts of the tour. Vegetarians should be well catered for but please note that food will tend to be quite spicy and more akin to India that the gentler cuisine in the North of Pakistan. There will also be some long driving days on the tour, although the roads are good, so come prepared for an adventure.
THE NATURE OF ADVENTURE TRAVEL
We feel that it’s worth pointing out that while we will always strive to stick as close to the stated itinerary as possible, it may be necessary from time to time to make changes to our itineraries or services (due to weather, political and religious influences etc.) and this can happen with little or no notice. This unpredictability can be one of the most exciting aspects of adventure travel and for many of our clients often leads to unexpected highlights as the tour-leader necessarily adapts the tour to the changing conditions. However we are aware that this lack of assuredness may not suit everyone. As such, with the greatest respect, if you are someone who needs to know that everything will happen exactly as planned, we would kindly suggest that perhaps our tours are not for you. Adventure travel can be infectious and once you’ve caught the bug, it is likely to never leave you, but especially if this is your first such tour we would strongly urge you to give us a call if you have any concerns whatsoever about your suitability for this trip.
TRAVELLING SOLO AND SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS
As a company approximately 70% of our clients are solo travellers, so it’s very unlikely you’ll be alone!
Our prices are typically based on twin-share accommodation but single supplements are not compulsory for any Wild Frontiers tour. If you prefer not to pay a single supplement we’ll pair you with someone else of the same sex for you to share with throughout the trip. On this trip, if you do opt to pay for a single supplement then please note that it will cover you for all nights of the tour.
Please note that paying a single supplement entitles you to lone occupancy of a single room. In many cases these rooms will be of the same size as a double/twin room, but in some cases they may be smaller.
Insurance that provides cover for emergency repatriation in case of a medical emergency is compulsory for all tours. You should be aware that due to some of the geographical areas visited and some of the activities included on certain of our trips some standard insurance policies may not always provide adequate cover. As such we strongly recommend that you purchase a policy that adequately covers your trip. Please see the Insurance section for more details.

Maroof’s ’emotional’ farewell captures legacy for Pakistan women’s cricket
Trailblazing former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Bismah Maroof says ’emotional’ farewell was for team and family.
Former Pakistan cricket captain Bismah Maroof remembers the look of befuddlement that quieted the typically beaming face of her two and a half year old daughter, Fatima, as she bid a tearful goodbye to her national teammates in Karachi on Thursday.
“She had never seen us like this,” Maroof, 32, told Al Jazeera, hours after calling time on her 17-year international career.

Moroccan club ‘wins’ cup tie 3-0 after algerian hosts confiscate kits, ‘you lost the league’: derby loss spoils klopp’s perfect liverpool sendoff, babar azam reappointed as pakistan white-ball captain, australia’s smith joins washington freedom before mlc cricket season.
“Neither my teammates nor I could hold back; it was an emotional farewell as I exited the Pakistan squad and left for my hometown, Lahore. Fatima, naturally, couldn’t make sense of any of it.”
Maroof’s decision to quit international cricket came as a surprise, not least because of the timing – a day before the opening fixture of Pakistan’s home T20 international series in Karachi against the West Indies. She was part of the 16-player squad for the assignment.
“It wasn’t a sudden decision, to be honest,” Maroof, Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs and T20Is, said. “I had long pondered my international retirement, and given the T20 World Cup is just four months away, it only felt fair that I walked away before the T20I series against West Indies.
“I wasn’t sure if I could sustain myself until the World Cup, so it was best I made way for the players who deserve a proper run in the lead-up to the World Cup.
‘The time was right for my Pakistan teammates and family’
“At this phase of my life,” said Maroof, who captained Pakistan in 96 matches – 62 in T20Is and 34 in ODIs, “I felt my family should take precedence, so I discussed the matter with them and gauged it as objectively as I could.
“Walking away from a team I had been part of since I first walked into it as a 15-year-old was never going to be easy. But the time was right, for the sake of my Pakistan teammates and my family.”
Pakistan Zindabad! 🇵🇰 pic.twitter.com/6otSXiXnnI — Bismah Maroof (@maroof_bismah) April 25, 2024
For someone who had become a regular companion of Maroof’s on pretty much every tour of hers since her inspirational return to professional cricket in March 2022 after childbirth, it was fitting that her daughter witnessed her final moments in the Pakistan dressing room as an international cricketer.
The social media graphic carrying Maroof’s retirement announcement unsurprisingly, too, had an image of her walking away holding her daughter’s hand.
The symbolism attached to Fatima in Maroof’s career is key to understanding the athlete’s imprint on her sport, especially in the subcontinent context.
Her legacy, after all, will be defined not only by her captaincy accomplishments, or her record 6,262 runs across 276 limited-over international appearances but also by her decision to return to top-flight cricket in March 2022, no less as captain, just six months after the birth of her first child, Fatima.
“After embracing motherhood, never did I see Bismah fall short of balancing her professional and non-professional roles,” Maroof’s close friend and longtime Pakistan teammate Javeria Khan, who retired from international cricket last month, told Al Jazeera.
“With her mother, Nighat, by her side, they both created an example out of Bismah – that a Pakistani woman can play top-level cricket after giving birth.
“She is a true icon and inspiration for so many. Pakistan cricket was really blessed to have a player like Bismah.”
A silent contributor ♥️ Aunty, words fall short to describe your contribution. You helped in Bismah’s dream to persue cricket after the arrival of Fatima. I dont think so she would have done without you. Mothers like you help their daughters to scale huge mountains. The… pic.twitter.com/LCks0Ahibv — Javeria Khan (@ImJaveria) April 25, 2024
‘Setting an example for women across the globe’
Female cricketers playing sport at the highest level after marriage, let alone childbirth, is a rarity in this part of the world. In that sense, Maroof has been an outlier.
Her pregnancy had nudged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) into formalising a paid maternity leave policy for the first time, and of which Maroof became the first beneficiary.
When she came out of her maternity leave, to lead Pakistan in the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand, leading voices in the sport, including her contemporaries, hailed her as a groundbreaker. “…setting an example for women across the globe,” wrote star India batter Smriti Mandhana on her Instagram story with a viral picture of Fatima cradled in Maroof’s arms, surrounded by the India players, after the India vs Pakistan fixture in the world tournament.
“When I think of my return post-childbirth two years ago, I still can’t help but wonder, ‘Arre, maine yeh kaise kar liya? (How did I manage to pull it off?),’” Maroof said, smiling.
“It wasn’t easy because for nearly two years Fatima had to be breastfed. Balancing motherly duties with my playing commitments was a challenge – physically and emotionally. Without that policy or the support of my mother, father and husband, I wouldn’t have been able to play this long.”
Under the PCB policy, Pakistan’s centrally contracted cricketers are entitled to up to 12 months of paid maternity leave and are guaranteed a contract extension for the following year alongside several other benefits on either side of childbirth.
While no Pakistani cricketer has subsequently availed of the policy, Maroof has maintained that the PCB’s handling of her pregnancy could serve as a case study for other cricket-playing nations, particularly in South Asia.
“I remember when I took the pregnancy leave, I was overcome with a sense of guilt of not having done enough for Pakistan cricket, but the maternity policy fortified my desire and resolve to make a comeback,” said Maroof. “I thought: ‘If the board was doing that much for me, I had to do my best to return to Pakistan side.’
“I had a good deal of cricket left in me and I wanted to share my experiences with my other teammates, especially the younger ones.”
Looking back, Maroof describes that decision as one of the most “formative” ones, not just in her career, but also in her life. “It’s not common in our South Asian culture for women to enter motherhood, play professional sport and carry one’s child around with oneself on sporting assignments. Because of its rarity, I knew my motherhood would be covered by global media, so it was imperative to try to be at my competitive best for my country and also highlight the role of everyone, including my teammates, who made the journey possible.”
A stylish left-hand batter who bowled part-time leg-spin, Maroof witnessed women’s cricket both in its nascency and its current professional embodiment in Pakistan. Having debuted against India in 2006, she went on to represent her country at the 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022 ODI World Cups and featured in all eight editions of the T20 World Cup to date – from 2009 to 2023.
In June 2016, she took over the T20I captaincy from the legendary Sana Mir and then the ODI reins in September 2017.
“When I started playing cricket, very few people knew that Pakistan had a women’s cricket team. Even I had no clue about women’s cricket,” Maroof said. “But things have changed over time. In Pakistani society, there’s greater acceptance of girls playing cricket now. In fact, I have seen parents encouraging their daughters to take up cricket. Social media has also played a huge part in taking women’s cricket to places it had no presence in.”
A trailblazing tale for Pakistan women’s cricket
Sana Mir, who Maroof replaced, wrote on her X social media account in response to the retirement announcement: “Sad to see you go before the ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later in the year. May your decision bring you peace.
“You have been a wonderful Ambassador and a rock for Pakistan batting lineup.”
Under Maroof’s captaincy, Pakistan defeated the higher-ranked New Zealand for the first time in ODIs, in 2017. The most-capped Pakistan woman in the format, she counts that victory among her career highlights, alongside the two gold-medal triumphs in the 2009 and 2010 Asian Games.
“For me, the discipline that cricket has taught me through the ups and downs in my career and those faced by women’s cricket in Pakistan has one of my biggest takeaways from my 17 years wearing the national jersey,” Maroof said.
“It’s built my core and identity.”
Beyond playing league cricket, Maroof said she hasn’t invested much thought yet in what her life might look like after her international retirement. As a self-avowed woman of few words, she believes she’s not cut out for commentary, but promises to keep a close eye on how the women’s game in Pakistan progresses hereon.
“The struggles my generation of female cricketers, or those before us like Sana experienced, are no longer there,” she said. “But there’s pressure of expectations on the younger lot. And to meet those expectations, our domestic structure needs strengthening and align it with the standard of international cricket.
“I hope to see Pakistan among the top four international teams because there’s no dearth of talent in our country.”
A smidgen of support might be all that is needed, as is borne out by Maroof’s trailblazing tale.

Saudi delegation inspects facilities at karachi airport for makkah route initiative.
https://arab.news/rck6d
- The initiative allows for the completion of immigration procedures at the pilgrims’ country of departure
- More than 60% of Pakistani pilgrims on government program are likely to benefit from the initiative this year
KARACHI: A two-member delegation from Saudi Arabia on Sunday visited the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi to inspect facilities there for the Makkah Route initiative aimed at facilitating local Hajj pilgrims, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) said. Launched in 2019, the initiative allows for the completion of immigration procedures at the pilgrims’ country of departure. This makes it possible to bypass long immigration and customs checks upon reaching Saudi Arabia, which significantly reduces the waiting time and makes the entry process smoother and faster. Pakistani pilgrims performing Hajj under the government scheme have been availing this facility at the airport in Islamabad for the last couple of years. But the government wants the initiative to be extended to other cities as well. The two-member delegation, which was accompanied by officials of the Saudi consulate, was warmly welcomed by PCAA officials upon arrival at the Karachi airport. “The purpose of their visit was to inspect the airport’s facilities and discuss the arrangements for the Route to Makkah project,” the PCAA said in a statement. “During their visit, APM (airport manager) provided the delegation with a comprehensive tour of the airport’s facilities.” The delegation showed particular interest in the entry process for intending pilgrims and the allocation of immigration space, according to the PCAA. Other key points discussed were related to the allocation of an immigration hall, and differentiating between government and private scheme pilgrims. Pakistan’s religious affairs ministry last month announced completion of a survey for the Makkah Route initiative at the Karachi airport ahead of the Hajj season. The South Asian country expects more than 60 percent of pilgrims performing Hajj this year to benefit from the initiative. People opting for the private Hajj scheme can also avail the facility, given the tour operators providing them services have contacted the Pakistani religious ministry for the purpose. Saudi Arabia last year restored Pakistan’s pre-pandemic Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims and abolished the upper age limit of 65 years. More than 81,000 Pakistani pilgrims performed Hajj under the government scheme in 2023, while the rest used private tour operators. This year’s pilgrimage is expected to run from June 14 till June 19.

New zealand win toss, opt to bowl in 5th and final t20 against pakistan.
- Pakistan, looking to build-up for June’s T20 World Cup, are trailing 2-1 in the series
- Pakistan have brought in their ace fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in place of Zaman Khan
LAHORE: New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell won the toss and elected to field in the fifth and final Twenty20 against Pakistan on Saturday. Pakistan, looking to build-up for June’s T20 World Cup, are trailing 2-1 in the series as they tested their bench strength against the understrength Black Caps. Pakistan made just one change from the team that lost the fourth match by four runs, bringing in their ace fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in place of Zaman Khan. New Zealand, touring Pakistan without their nine frontline T20 players who are in the Indian Premier League, made three changes. Tim Seifert recovered from sore back and returns in place of Tim Robinson, who scored a half-century in the last game but was ruled out with a groin injury. Cole McConchie and Zak Foulkes also made it to the playing XI replacing Dean Foxcroft and Jacob Duffy. Foxcroft was ruled out with a back injury. The first game was abandoned because of rain before Pakistan bowled out New Zealand for 90 runs in the second game to win by seven wickets. New Zealand made a comeback, winning the third match by seven wickets before edging out the home team in the last game at Qaddafi Stadium on Thursday.

Pro-palestine protester claims manhandling after disrupting german ambassador’s speech in lahore.
- Ambassador Grannas was speaking on safeguarding civil rights in South Asia when his speech was interrupted
- Ali Abdullah Khan said Germany was ‘brutally abusing’ people for speaking in favor of the rights of Palestinians
ISLAMABAD: A pro-Palestine protester in Pakistan, who interrupted German Ambassador Alfred Grannas during his speech on civil liberties in South Asia at a rights conference in the eastern city of Lahore on Saturday, said he was ‘manhandled’ by the organizers who later forces him out of the hall. Ali Abdullah Khan, who studies economics and is part of the Progressive Students Collective, disrupted the German envoy’s speech at the popular Asma Jahangir Conference while accusing the European state of “brutally abusing” those who have been agitating for Palestinian rights. Germany has clearly sided with Israel since the beginning of the war in Gaza after a surprise attack was launched by Hamas on Oct. 7 as a response to the deteriorating Palestinian condition living under Israeli occupation. The conflict, which has led to the killing of over 34,000 Palestinians, has led to widespread criticism of the Israeli government, leading to protests in different parts of the world. While countries like South Africa have accused the Jewish state of committing genocide in Gaza, German authorities have forcibly removed protest encampments and gone into people’s houses to arrest them for critical social media posts on charges of antisemitism. “We were forced out of the place after we raised our voice during the German ambassador’s speech,” Khan said while speaking to Arab News. “The organizers manhandled us and banned our entry in the conference.” He said it was “baffling” to see the German ambassador “lecturing” people on civil liberties in Pakistan after his country supplied arms and ammunition to Israeli military to kill Palestinian civilians and destroy hospitals and education institutions. “Germany isn’t in a position to champion civil liberties and human rights when it is complicit in the killing of thousands of civilians in Palestine,” he continued. “We simply called out Germany’s hypocrisy by peacefully raising our voice in the conference that literally agitated the ambassador.”
Khan said he had peacefully expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine and would continue to do so until the western world remained “complicit in the brutal massacre of Palestinians.” The Asma Jahangir Conference is named after a late Pakistani human rights lawyer and activist that brings together scholars, activists, legal experts and policymakers to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the lives of marginalized communities. Arab News reached out to Munizae Jahangir, Asma’s daughter and a known journalist, for a comment but did not get a response. Earlier, Khan interrupted the German ambassador shortly after he began his speech. “I am shocked by the audacity that you are here to talk about civil rights while your country is brutally abusing the people speaking for the rights of the Palestinians,” he shouted while standing at the back of hall. Many people around him supported him by shouting “Free, Free Palestine” and “From the River to the Sea.” The German envoy, who looked visibly perturbed by the development, responded by shouting back at him and pointing to the exit. “If you, if you want to shout, go out,” he said. “There you can shout. Because shouting is not a discussion.” Last year in November, a Pakistani classical dancer and human rights activist Sheema Kermani raised slogans for a ceasefire at a British Deputy High Commission event in Karachi and later complained of being “escorted out.”
Gunmen abduct judge in Pakistan’s northwest amid surge in militant violence
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister says ‘emergency measures’ must be taken to bring back the judge
- Police say a heavy contingent has gone to the area to gather evidence and identify the armed men
PESHAWAR: Unidentified gunmen abducted a district and sessions court judge in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province on Saturday as he was traveling from his hometown of Tank to the southern Dera Ismail Khan district, according to a police official. The incident has alarmed the legal community and coincides with a resurgence of militant violence in KP and Balochistan provinces, following the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)’s termination of a fragile truce with the government in November 2022. “Shakirullah Marwat, the district and sessions judge in South Waziristan, was kidnapped near Bagwal, a dusty town between Tank and Dera Ismail Khan,” said Muhammad Ibrahim, a police spokesman. “The kidnappers released Marwat’s driver but took the judge with them.” Ibrahim added that a heavy police contingent was dispatched to the area immediately after the incident to collect evidence and search for the armed men. Earlier this month, an attack in Dera Ismail Khan resulted in the death of six people, including five customs department officials, with another person wounded when gunmen targeted their vehicle. Shah Fahad Ansari, a high court advocate and the divisional president for the People Lawyers’ Forum, condemned the abduction, saying that courts across the region should be locked down in protest to draw attention to the deteriorating law and order situation. “The provincial government has completely failed to maintain security in the area,” Ansari added. “You can imagine the sense of insecurity among people at a time when the state cannot even protect its judges.” Reacting to the development, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur instructed the police to ensure the safe recovery of the judge. “Emergency measures must be taken to recover the judge, and all available resources should be utilized for this purpose,” he said in a statement. Gandapur maintained the people who were behind the incident would not be able to escape the law. The recent weeks have also seen attacks on police officials in KP. Earlier this month, a policeman was shot dead in North Waziristan. In related incidents, an official from the provincial counterterrorism department and a senior cleric affiliated with the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam religious party were fatally shot in target killings in the area. While no group has claimed responsibility for these attacks, suspicion has fallen on the TTP, whose leadership is said to be based in neighboring Afghanistan. The Afghan deputy interior minister, Mohammad Nabi Omari, urged Pakistan and the banned militant network to resume negotiations earlier this month, but Pakistani authorities rejected this idea, calling on the administration in Kabul to act against militants operating from its soil.
‘The audacity’: German envoy’s speech disrupted by pro-Palestinian protester at Lahore rights conference
- The protester said Germany was ‘brutally abusing’ those speaking in favor of the rights of Palestinian people
ISLAMABAD: German Ambassador to Pakistan Alfred Grannas was challenged by a pro-Palestine protester on Saturday shortly after he began his speech on safeguarding civil rights in South Asia at a high-profile conference held in the eastern city of Lahore. While countries like South Africa have accused the Jewish state of committing genocide in Gaza, authorities in Germany have forcibly removed protest encampments and gone into people’s houses to arrest them for critical social media posts on charges of antisemitism. “I am shocked by the audacity that you are here to talk about civil rights while your country is brutally abusing the people speaking for the rights of the Palestinians,” the young protester standing at the back of the hall shouted at him. Many people around him supported him by shouting “Free, Free Palestine” and “From the River to the Sea.” The German envoy, who looked visibly agitated by the development, responded by shouting back and pointing to the exit. “If you, if you want to shout, go out,” he said. “There you can shout. Because shouting is not a discussion.” The incident happened at the Asma Jahangir Conference that focuses on dialogue and advocacy for human rights issues in Pakistan and its broader neighborhood. Last year in November, a Pakistani classical dancer and human rights activist Sheema Kermani raised slogans for a ceasefire at a British Deputy High Commission event in Karachi and later complained of being “escorted out.”
Pakistan PM arrives in Riyadh to attend World Economic Forum meeting
- PM Sharif is expected to discuss inclusive growth, regional collaboration and energy issues at the gathering
- He will also attend the Islamic Summit Conference in Gambia on May 4 to discuss Islamophobia and Palestine
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Riyadh on Saturday to attend a two-day special conference of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The WEF meeting on global collaboration, growth and energy will be held in the Saudi capital on April 28-29, according to PM Sharif’s office. The prime minister was extended an invitation to attend the meeting by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Professor Klaus Schwab, the WEF executive chairman. “Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in the Saudi capital Riyadh,” said an official statement circulated in Islamabad. “At Riyadh’s Royal Airport, the Deputy Governor of the Riyadh Region, His Highness Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz, the Ambassador of Pakistan in Saudi Arabia, and other diplomatic staff welcomed the Prime Minister,” it added. Prior to his departure, the PM Office said Sharif would be accompanied by a high-level delegation including foreign minister Ishaq Dar and finance minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. “The Prime Minister and the Ministers will participate in WEF discussions on issues related to trade and investment measures, new investment frameworks, restructuring of supply chains, sustainable growth, and the energy landscape,” it added. Sharif’s participation in the forum will afford Pakistan an opportunity to highlight its priorities in global health architecture, inclusive growth, revitalizing regional collaboration, and the need for striking a balance between promoting growth and energy consumption. “On the margins of the main event, the Prime Minister and his delegation will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, including the Saudi leadership, heads of international organizations, and other prominent figures participating in the event,” the statement added. The prime minister will also attend the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on May 4-5 in the Gambian capital of Banjul to discuss a variety of regional and global issues, including Palestine, Islamophobia, climate change and the status of minorities, the Pakistani state-run APP news agency reported. The session will be held under the slogan “Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development,” according to a press release issued by the OIC General Secretariat. The Islamic Summit is a principal organ of the OIC focused on the formulation, development, and implementation of decisions made by 57 member states. It is attended by concerned heads of state such as prime ministers, presidents, emirs and other equivalent heads.
