'Love & Hip Hop' 's Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels Divorcing After Less Than 2 Years of Marriage: Reports

Erica Mena, who is pregnant with her second child, shares 15-month-old daughter Safire with Safaree Samuels

Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels are calling it quits after a year and a half of marriage.

Mena, 33, filed for divorce from Samuels, 39, on Friday in Georgia's Fayette County Superior Court, TMZ , PageSix , and Entertainment Tonight reported Tuesday.

The Love & Hip Hop stars secretly got married in October 2019, and share a 15-month-old daughter together, Safire . Mena is also pregnant with their second child together, an announcement she and Samuels made just earlier this month.

According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Mena says her marriage to Samuel is "irretrievably broken" with "no hope of reconciliation."

She is asking for joint legal custody and final decision-making authority, Entertainment Tonight reports , and requests physical custody of Safire on a temporary and permanent basis "with the parties having parenting time as determined in the minor children's best interests."

In addition, Mena asks Samuels to pay her legal fees, child support, and for sole use of their home in Georgia, TMZ reports.

A rep for Mena did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, and a rep for Samuels could not immediately be identified.

On May 3, Mena and Samuels announced they were expecting their second child together.

"Safire got a new sibling 😇😇" Samuels wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. "New baby who dis?? 🙏🏾🙏🏾 #2under2 time to get neutered 🤣🤣 now I need a chef and a nanny 😂😂"

"Get ready!!!! Any day now ❤️," Mena wrote in a comment on the post, PEOPLE previously reported.

At the time, Mena shared a post on her own Instagram account, writing, "More Life♥️✨ Who wants that perfect love story anyway." That post also appears to have since been deleted.

On Tuesday, Mena shared a photo of herself wearing a bodycon jumpsuit as she cradled her baby bump, writing in the caption, "When I was seven months 🥰🧿"

A tweet of Tory Lanez's on her Instagram Stories Mena shared on Monday read, "I'd rather loyalty than love. And no the two are not the same."

Is Safaree Samuels leaving ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta'? It’s quite possible.

Safaree has been the main target for social media slander in regards to Love & Hip Hop Atlanta . Aside from his ongoing divorce drama with Erica , the show revealed his sentiments about having children, which rubbed viewers the wrong way.

And once an unfortunate incident occurred that affected Baby Safire, social media has been on one since.

In the scene, Baby Safire fell on the back of her head. She instantly started crying, and Erica quickly scolded Safaree for laughing and not taking action immediately.

“Safaree pick her up, you freaking idiot. What’s your problem?” Erica says to Safaree.

“She’s fine,” Safaree says. “When she’s in here, when we’re by ourselves, this doesn’t happen.”

Making matters worse, Erica expressed in a confessional that “this is what her life is about to be like” and called Safaree “immature.”

After receiving tons of backlash, Safaree took to Twitter to explain how disgusted he is with the editors for airing the scene. He also shared that it may be time for him to leave the show.

Fans believe that Season 10 will be the last time we see Safaree on ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.’

It’s common for LHHATL cast members to leave the franchise. We’ve seen Joseline Hernandez make her exit after tension with showrunner Mona Scott-Young and various cast members.

K. Michelle also stepped away from the franchise due to drama and wanting to pursue her own endeavors with different projects. Plus, Erica Dixon walked away because she wanted to stay clear of the drama.

So, it’s not far-fetched that Safaree would actually bid the Atlanta gang farewell. Plus, with the show taking an even deeper dive into the demise of his marriage with Erica, coming back may not even be an option. After all, the show tends to rehash past issues, and Safaree may be completely over the situation.

It’s true that Safaree brings humor to the show, but with the tension between him and the show editors, it may be best for him to leave on his own terms.

However, nothing is set in stone as of yet. So, there is a chance that Safaree may stick around.

Safaree's a Jamaican-American rapper and record producer, originally from Brooklyn, New York City. He came into the public eye through his relationship with rapper Nicki Minaj, whom he dated from 2002 to 2014.

Safaree is promoted to main cast of Love & Hip Hop: New York in season nine , which chronicles his recent career struggles, including being robbed at gunpoint, having his nude photos leak and being booed off the stage during a performance at Dyckman Park. • On July 24, 2017, Safaree Samuels announced that he would be starring in his own spin-off Wild Safaree , however the show never made it to air.
• During filming of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood season four, Samuels dated model Star Divine. They reportedly filmed scenes for the show together, including a violent altercation where Divine beat Samuels over the head with a pole. The storyline never made it to air.

‘I’m Sorry For Everything I’ve Done to Hurt You’: Safaree Apologizes To Erica Mena in New Trailer for VH1’s ‘Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition’

Is divorce off the table? It appears Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels are working on their future together in the new trailer for VH1’s “Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition.”

Building off the first season’s success, the star-studded reality series will return for its second season with franchise cast members from Atlanta, New York, Hollywood and Miami, who come together to mend their broken relationships with each other.

In the new season trailer, Safaree issued an apology to his wife for the hurt he caused during their two-year marriage. The “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” stars share a 2-year-old daughter, Safire Majesty , and a 5-month-old son, Legend Samuels . Many called their union toxic due to cheating rumors, nasty public disputes on social media, as well as  damage of property . Fans of the reality series dragged Safaree last season for partying in Jamaica, while Mena was in the NICU with their then newborn son.

“I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to hurt you,” Safaree said, while crying over Mena’s shoulder. It’s unclear if the couple has called off the divorce, but perhaps they’re in a better place.

Mena’s friend and “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star Bobby Lytes is also set to appear in “Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition. Amina Buddafly, Tara Wallace , Jonathan Fernandez, Juelz Santana and Kimbella will represent New York, while Mimi Faust , Stevie J and Shekinah Jo represent for Atlanta.

Based on the trailer, there will be a mix of fights, arguments, revelations and unexpected hookups such as Cyn Santana of New York, who shares a son with Joe Budden, and Daniel “Booby” Johnson , who shares a son with Keyshia Cole .

“OMG, this about to be a whole s—t show,” said Cyn in the trailer.

Another clip sees Cyn and Booby wrapped in each other’s arms, hugging, while Booby said, “Her energy right away…we just connected” in a voiceover.

Also in the trailer, Brooke Valentine of “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” revealed her husband, Marcus Black , “for sure cheated on me.” But it wouldn’t be a family reunion without some tension from the creep squad: Cisco Rosado, Peter Gunz and Rich Dollaz of “Love & Hip Hop: New York. “

Season two of VH1’s “Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition” premieres Monday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. EST.

Love & Hip Hop reality star Safaree revealed he may be separating himself from the franchise in the future. In a series of tweets Wednesday night, the reality tv star shared his discontent with series, for airing footage of his 1-year-old-daughter Safire falling in Season 10. Here’s what he had to say about it.

“And y’all LHH editors ain’t shit. we told y’all not to air my baby falling and y’all still used it. Had us reshoot a whole bunch of bullshit and y’all still used that. Y’all don’t have no respect, because that was not my response of me finding out I was having a boy!” wrote Safari.

“Love & Hip Hop” stars Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels have welcomed their second child together — roughly a month after she filed for divorce .

Samuels, 39, announced the news Monday with a solo shot of him cradling his swaddled newborn, whose face is hidden from the camera.

“MR Straittt jr is here!! 🙏🏾 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Samuels captioned his Instagram post , making a reference to his 2020 album “Straitt.”

He did not confirm the baby’s name, but did share another picture on his Instagram Story of the infant gripping one of his fingers.

“Another me…. That’s all the world needed,” he joked, adding angel and laughing emojis.

Mena, 33, filed for a divorce from Samuels in May , just weeks after she announced that they were expecting another child.

Mena called their one-and-a-half-year marriage “irretrievably broken,” with “no hope for reconciliation,” in court documents obtained by Page Six at the time.

The stars are also the parents of 16-month-old daughter Safire. Mena previously requested primary physical custody of the little girl.

They  tied the knot in October 2019, with Samuels dropping an estimated $500,000  on their wedding rings.

Mena has yet to post any photos of her baby’s arrival, but kept fans in the loop throughout the past few months of her pregnancy with baby bump photos and updates.

“I’m happy, hurting and healing all at the same time,” Mena shared in one post leading up to her baby’s birth. “Don’t ask me how.”

Mena also has a 14-year-old son, King, with ex Raul Conde.

On a recent episode of 'Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,' Safaree stormed out of an argument by throwing a chair that ended up hitting him on the back of his head.

On a recent episode of  Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta , Safaree stormed out of a heated argument by throwing a chair that ended up hitting him on the back of his head.

A clip of the moment, which came after he got into an argument with one of his fellow cast members about his co-parenting relationship with Erica Mena, began to circulate on Twitter this week. Safaree can be seen playing a card game during the tense situation, and appeared to snap after the conversation refused to let up. That’s when he stood up, picked up his chair and threw it. But instead of throwing the chair ahead of himself, he somehow managed to strike himself in the back of his head.

As reported by  XXL , the reality star’s outburst happened after he questioned whether he was the biological father of one of his children with Mena. “I’m like, why the baby ain’t got my goatee yet,” he joked. “Where his muscles at? You know what I’m saying?”

Safaree’s fellow cast member, Mendeecees Harris, highlighted that Rich Dollaz, who was also playing the card game, had been involved with Mena in the past, too. He said Dollaz doesn’t have a goatee, and suggested that he could be the true biological father.

Safaree welcomed his second child with Mena last year shortly after their divorce. At one point, Mena alleged that he wasn’t present when their child was born, though Safaree shot down the allegations that he’s a “dead beat” dad. “I don’t wAnt a Treat for being with my kids but don’t act like I’m not with my kids becuz y’all don’t see it," he wrote on Twitter last year. "My kids live in a mansion and that’s because of me! I’m with them all the time!”

During the season finale of “ Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta ,” Amara accepts Safaree’s marriage proposal. Unfortunately, the engagement came with controversy. During a showcase for Brooke, Florence approaches Amara, informing her about her time in the studio with Safaree. She tells Amara that Safaree was focused on more than working on a song. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta returned for its 11th season on the 13th of June, and is currently airing on MTV. This season features not one, but two Jamaicans – the island’s own ‘born and grow’ dancehall superstar Spice and 2nd-generation Jamaican American rapper Safaree Samuels. 

Both Safaree and Spice have been the center of a whirlwind of drama in the current season. 

Spice and Erica Mena fight and throw racial slurs

Erica Mena’s participation in Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta has come to an end after her recent use of a racial slur directed at her co-star, Spice. The television franchise formally announced this decision on Instagram and Twitter under the name “X” on Saturday. The official statement acknowledged the franchise’s commitment to addressing challenging conversations within the community.

Collaborating closely with partners, the impact of Erica Mena’s comments will unfold in the final three episodes of the current season. However, the statement also revealed her immediate exclusion from the upcoming season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.

No representatives from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta or Erica Mena provided immediate responses to PEOPLE’s request for comments. Similarly, Spice’s representative could not be reached for comment.

The incident that led to this decision occurred during an episode that aired on August 29. A heated argument between Mena and Spice escalated, resulting in a table being flipped and the intervention of producers to separate the two individuals.

The fight was fueled by Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels’ divorce

The root of the explosive altercation was a discussion surrounding Mena’s divorce from Safaree Samuels, her former husband and father of her children. The exchange between Mena and Spice grew increasingly hostile, with Spice mentioning that her teenage son held negative feelings towards her. Mena responded with offensive language, including a racial slur directed at Spice.

Following the release of footage depicting their altercation, Spice commented on the situation in a now-deleted Instagram post. She pointed out the apparent double standards regarding conversations about children and expressed her disappointment in Mena’s derogatory language.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Erica Mena has used such language. In the past, she directed the same racial slur towards former Love & Hip Hop: New York co-star Jhonni Blaze and several promoters in 2015.

Erica Mena initially appeared in the franchise as part of the Love & Hip Hop: New York installment and later joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta for its seventh season in 2018. She eventually became a regular cast member in 2020.

Who is Spice?

Grace Latoya Hamilton, best known as Spice, is a dancehall artist, singer, songwriter, and now a reality TV star. Arguably the most prominent and successful female dancehall artist of the 21st century, Spice is known for her aggressive flow, and vulgar and provocative lyrics. Her breakthrough single “Romping Shop,” a remix of R&B singer Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independent,” not only put her on the map, but signposted the path her career would take. 

Spice was introduced on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta as a special guest star serving as a guide to series regulars Karlie Redd and Mimi on their Jamaican vacation. In season seven she joined the cast as a regular, as she made her way to Atlanta in hopes of breaking into the American music industry.

The Dancehall Queen has had a few story arcs on the show, finding herself thrust into the position of mediator navigating the messy relationships of her crewmates, chronicling her relationship with then partner Justin Budd , and wrestling with colorism in the Black community with social commentary on the popularization of skin bleaching.

Spice opened the 11th season with a confessional detailing her near-death experience fighting a sepsis infection she suffered during a cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic.  

“On October 31, 2022, I died, and God literally gave me a second chance, and I’m so grateful to be here,” Spice shared in a video she posted on social media. The series premiere picks up three months later and explores how the superstar navigates her life in the wake of that experience, but also shows that she’s still the saucy dancehall icon she’s always been.

Who is Safaree Samuels?

Safaree Lloyd Samuels was born in Brooklyn, New York to two Jamaican immigrant parents. The rapper came up with Nicki Minaj, Lou$tar, and Seven Up in the group Hoodstars. When Minaj went solo, Samuels took a background role as her partner and writer for some of her biggest hits.

The rapper is now considered a Love and Hip Hop veteran, bouncing around numerous installments over the years. In 2016, he joined Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. In 2017, he moved back to New York and joined the Love & Hip Hop: New York cast, and since season 10 he has been a regular on the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta cast after being a supporting cast member in season 9. 

The series has cataloged Samuels’ breakup with Minaj, getting his career back on track and navigating his eventful love life with various women in the industry, including his marriage and divorce from co-star, Erica Mena.

Safaree Throws Chair, Hits Himself in the Head During Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Episode

Things are known to get physical on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta , but this time, Safaree threw a chair and hit himself in the head with it.

In an episode of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta that aired on Monday night (Sept. 26), Safaree  was involved in a heated discussion regarding his co-parenting relationship with fellow costar, Erica Mena , during a poker game with other male cast members. At one point during the card game, when Safaree seemingly had enough, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native stood up, grabbed the chair he was sitting in and attempted to throw it across the room. What the "Paradise" rapper likely didn't intend to do with the chair was smack himself with it in the back of the head, which can be seen in the video below.

Safaree 's unfortunate outburst at the card game followed an awkward conversation during which he was asked about approaching his ex-wife and the mother of his two children, Erica Mena, regarding a potential paternity test. Things took a turn when Safaree  spoke to cast member Mendeecees Harris  and explained his reasons for questioning whether or not he truly is the biological father of his and Mena's son.

"I'm like, why the baby ain't got my goatee yet,"  Safaree rhetorically asked when discussing a lack of resemblance between him and his son. "Where his muscles at? You know what I'm saying?"

At that point, Mendeecees pointed out the fact that Rich Dollaz , who was also present at the card game and has been romantically involved with Erica Mena in past, doesn't have a goatee. Harris' implication was that perhaps Dollaz could be the father of Safaree 's son. Apparently, just the thought of Rich Dollaz's relationship with Safaree 's ex-wife seemingly became too much for Safaree to handle and as a result, he threw the chair and whacked himself in the head before storming away from the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta set.

This marks the second time in a matter of a month that Safaree made some not-so-flattering headlines. Back in August, the rapper-reality TV personality felt the need to publicly deny his appearance in a leaked sex tape , which caused social media users to clown Safaree about his manhood, a package that the internet said was much smaller than advertised.

Where Amara La Negra Stands With Safaree Samuels After Explosive Love and Hip Hop Fight (Exclusive)

Amara La Negra also teases more drama to come in the second half of Love and Hip-Hop: Miami's fifth season, and shares her dating experiences as a single mom to two girls under two.

Love and Hip-Hop: Miami star, Amara La Negra , is spilling the tea about what's really going on between her and Safaree Samuels .

After viewers saw Amara and Safaree get in an intense back-and-forth on the show's mid-season finale last month, Amara backtracked when it came to the validity of their relationship.

What started out as "testing the waters," quickly became a just for TV relationship, but Amara tells TooFab, that there was something there, with the mother of two revealing that she pulled the plug on their short-lived romance after Samuels started "acting single."

"I think that in that moment, because of a lot of other personal things that I was going through... I just kind of felt like, you know what, 'You're embarrassing me,'" Amara explained.

She continued, "You're out here acting all single and talking to other women and doing all types of things make me look... Verme como una estúpida. So I'm like, 'Oh, You know what? Never mind. I had nothing to do with him. And if you want to act single, pues, so am I."

A lot of the drama, Amara said, came from Safaree's previous relationship with Erica Mena, with whom Safaree shares two children. Though the pair are divorced, Amara said she was often dragged into their drama online.

"There were a lot of other things happening in his past -- personal  life, with things that occurred," She added, alluding to his contentious relationship with Mena. "Someway, somehow, people were trying to drag me into a situation that had nothing to do with me either, so I guess it was just me trying to protect myself from all the negativity that was happening in that moment."

As for what fans can expect from the second half of Love and Hip-Hop: Miami , Amara said lots more drama, and a closer look at what really went down between her and Safaree.

Viewers will also see Amara have a sit down with the father of her twin daughters, Sualtesa and Sumajestad, 1, whom she welcomed in March 2022, and the drama that has unfolded with him since their birth -- part of which motivated her to deny her relationship with Safaree.

"A lot of people did get to see at one point, that I had conflicts with the father of my children. I've been very respectful on the way that I treat that matter," Amara explained. "Even though at one point, I actually feel very terrible that I didn't know how to control my anger -- my anger, my disappointment, my hurt as a woman, as a mother. And I went on Live and exposed and said a lot of things that I probably shouldn't have."

She continued, "And then this season, you'll see me have that confrontation, that one-on-one conversation with him. Which is also part of the reason why I denied my relationship with Safaree."

There's a lot people don't know, Amara said, and a lot she's kept private because of her girls, telling TooFab she's working as hard as she possibly can for them.

"I work so much, but my girls made me even more ambitious. They made me even more like, 'Let's go get it.' 'Cause I know that they depend on me," Amara, who has been using Latin dating app, Chispa,  in hopes of one day finding that Mr. Right, said. "Me siento bendecida. I honestly feel so blessed. That's also another reason why I feel like I also wanted to come into Chispa."

"I don't know if the fairytale exists, but I would love to find someone that can really love me, that can love my girls. And that's something else that happens, like me, there's a lot of other women on Chispa that now, we're mothers," she continued. "You can't just date anyone. You can't just bring anybody home. You really have to get to know them. Especially, I have two little girls."

Amara added, "Maybe, eventually, God will bless me with a good man that my girls can see as a father figure. Y todas esas cosas. But my girls have really motivated me to become the best version of me, honestly."

Her one dating must-have? Treat her like a lady. Amara tells TooFab, when it comes to a first date, she doesn't want to have to split the bill.

"I feel like if we're going on a date, I want to feel like I'm being treated out for dinner. I want to feel like a lady. Give me the whole experience. That's just me. I'm more traditional in that aspect," Amara explained. "Some people feel that if it's a first date, we're still getting to know each other, we're still like on friendzone, and it's OK to split the bill... NO."

She added, "Even the smallest thing like that, those are important things to talk about before you actually go out on a date. Where's your mindset? How do you visualize things? That whole, 'What do you bring to the table' conversation, maybe that's something that needs to be had before going out on a date."

Safaree Says Kimbella Matos Relationship Ended Despite Love & Hip Hop Appearance

Safaree says he is not in a relationship with Kimbella Matos, the woman who had a blow-up with his ex-wife Erica Mena shortly after the couple announced their divorce .

Kimbella Matos was spotted out with Safaree for his birthday last year while his wife gave birth to their son Legend. They were later linked together as dating after Erica Mena confirmed that the Instagram model was seeing Safaree.

Erica was not particularly pleased and had even had words with Kimbella over her decision to be with Safaree. On Thursday, Kimbella appeared on a clip of an upcoming episode of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta where she and Safaree talked about his relationship with Erica, and Safaree also clarified that she is just his lady friend.

“You get your own bag, I like that. I like a woman who hustles and have ambition because all I do is work,” Safaree tells Kimbella as they are seen walking and holding hands and later kissing in public.

“You just make me very happy. I respect you and I respect your situation all the way. I would never come interfere and I feel like I don’t want no issues with anything because I really have nothing to do with that,” Kimbella says without mentioning Safaree’s issues with the mother of his two children.

Safaree, however, reassures Kimbella that his decision to agree to Erica’s divorce had nothing to do with the 26-year-old.

“You’re not the reason I got a divorce ok,” he says while she added, “and that’s what a lot of people think. People think and got this narrative of me that I caused your relationship to end.”

In a cutaway scene, a producer asks Safaree an important question about his relationship with Matos, “Erica knows about this girl…how do you think Erica will react when she sees you with Kimbella?” a producer asks Safaree.

“She’s not my girlfriend,” Safaree says as he adds, “honestly this is just a stage of me and Kimbella getting to know each other. As far as how my ex would feel, that’s really not my problem.”

In the comments under the post, many people called Safaree out for claiming that Kimbella is not his girlfriend despite their homemade porn videos leaking on the internet.

“This was filmed 7 months ago stop tagging me,” Safaree urged.

Some comments also flamed Safaree for his comments and response.

“You brought her on the show and was gassing her up Jean vest! That’s so bad,” one person said.

“7 months so wasn’t you married still?” another asked.

“Why bring her on the show then,” another asked.

It’s unclear if Safaree and Kimbella are still together or finally together.

Funeral for hip-hop pioneer Rico Wade today in Atlanta

Rico Wade’s life will be celebrated in one of his hometown’s iconic houses of worship. Today, the Atlanta music pioneer will be remembered.

Wade died on April 13 at the age of 52.

The private, invitation-only service for family and friends will take place at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Outside of the church, there will be 68 members of Clark Atlanta’s band performing hits produced by Organized Noize, his musical collective , which begot OutKast and the Goodie Mob,

Burial details were not announced, but following the service, a funeral procession will include a few stops at landmarks that played a crucial role in Wade’s legacy, such as “ the White House ,” and the intersection of Headland and Delowe in East Point.

The procession will begin near Mercedes-Benz Stadium about 1 p.m., after the service concludes.

Through time, hip hop artists have illustrated the role financial inequity has played in the lives of underserved communities, both in their music or in day-to-day conversations.

Chase is turning a mic to the issue by partnering with one of the most important spaces solely dedicated to the genre of hip hop, the Hip Hop Museum (THHM). The financial institution recently announced a multi-year partnership with the organization to help foster wider accessibility to banking, and money management tools in underserved communities.

“Hip Hop transcends the music genre – it stands as a powerful force for economic growth and a catalyst for community empowerment,” said Rocky Bucano, Founding Member and CEO of The Hip Hop Museum in a news release. “Our relationship with money and understanding our finances is an important part of setting up individuals and communities for success. We’re proud to partner with Chase to help build financial resilience through Hip Hop.”

Few hip hop artists have been able to foster generational wealth from the space, which is reflective of the overarching plight of the larger Black community in America. Chase and THHM is aiming to shift that narrative; as the founding and official financial education partner of The Hip Hop Museum, Chase will help support a series of community events around financial empowerment – in cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York – which includes eature a hip hop touring exhibit, artists, and professional athletes.

“Hip Hop embodies community building and empowerment, and financial health is a vital part of this,” said Jason Patton, Northeast Division Director at Chase. “We’re excited to expand our financial health workshops to Hip Hop fans across the county.”

Atlanta Launches Executive Training Program In Rico Wade's Honor

The Dungeon family legend is gone but not forgotten.

The music world is still processing the death of Rico Wade. The producer was considered by many to be the cornerstone of the Dungeon Family , and the music that allowed the collective to transform hip-hop in the 1990s and 2000s. Wade died from heart failure at the age of 52, but his native Atlanta is making sure that he won't be forgotten. The city has launched a training program in Wade's name, with the intention of mentoring the next generation of executives.

The program was announced the same day as Wade's funeral , April 27. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens made a statement on the program following the service at Ebenezer Baptist Church. It bears the official title of the Rico Wade Music Executive Training Program. It will be an initiative ran by Atlanta's Office of Film, Entertainment and Nightlife. "Rico left an indelible mark on music and culture around the world," Dickens added. "And for that, the South will always have something to say."

Rico Wade's Program Will Mentor Aspiring Music Execs

The program will help musicians learn the business and establish connections within the music industry. Dickens pointed to those in attendance as proof that Wade was successful at an extraordinary level. The Mayor aims to give newcomers access to the "music executives like the 500 hundred or so gathered" at the producer's funeral. These executives include L.A. Reid, Chris Hicks, and Sylvia Rhone, the chair and CEO of Epic Records.

Rico Wade's business acumen has been a consistent point of praise. He not only helped Outkast and En Vogue break through in the 1990s, but he did the same with Future in the 2010s. The "Like That" rapper talked about Wade's impact during a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone. "Rico supported me 1,000 more times than anybody ever could," he admitted. "Nobody could ever do what Rico Wade did for me … Everything I know about music, I know because of Rico."

CeeLo Green, another Dungeon Family member, likened Wade to the comic book character Professor X. "He was Dr. Xavier of the world-renowned Dungeon Family," he wrote on Instagram. "Yet so humble and understated with all his power. Even the name Rico Wade rings bells, and sounds so prestigious & regal."

A launch date for the Rico Wade Music Executive Training Program not yet been announced.
