Slovenia Tours & Vacations
Known as ‘Europe in Miniature’, tiny Slovenia has a huge heart and a wealth of diversity
The soaring Julian Alps capture a touch of Switzerland , the radiating coastline oozes Mediterranean charm and Bled’s sweet island church appears to have come straight out of a fairytale. There is plenty of action for adrenaline junkies, from cycling, hiking and skiing, to canyoning, caving and boating. For those who prefer a slower pace, just sit back and take in the postcard-perfect views.

Learn more about Slovenia
Best time to visit slovenia.
Slovenia is a beautiful destination no matter what time of the year it is, and every season has its attractions. While the coast heats up over summer, the Julian Alps continue to experience more moderate temperatures. In winter, snow falls over the mountains and can get very cold, but the lowlands and coastal areas of the south enjoy much milder weather. Spring sees bursts of wildflowers through the alpine meadows and autumn brings gorgeous reds and oranges.
Geography and environment
Squeezed between Austria , Italy , Hungary and Croatia , Slovenia is covered in snow-dusted peaks, mountain meadows and alpine lakes. The Julian Alps dominate the landscape in the north. Further south the limestone Karst hides intricate networks of caves. Slovenia’s Adriatic coastline leads into Croatia.
Top 5 active adventures in Slovenia
Get the legs pumping with a ride around Lake Bled, past 19th-century villas, grand hotels and the cliff-clinging castle. For some more two-wheeled adventures, head out to Vintgar Gorge.
The Julian Alps beckon to be explored. Hike one of the numerous trails, or take a cable car to Mt Vogel for a bird’s-eye view of the lake below.
3. Canyoning
Slovenia is filled with underground and ‘between’ ground canyoning opportunities. So if you don’t mind small spaces, discover some of Slovenia’s most secret places on a canyoning adventure.
4. River rafting
Try out some of Europe’s best white-water rafting. But be prepared to get wet.
Hire a traditional pletna and enjoy a boat ride across Lake Bled to its fairytale church. Ring the bell to have your wish granted.

About Small Group Tours Slovenia
Holidays in small groups are ideal for solo travelers , as well as those who wish to meet like-minded people and make new friends while visiting Slovenia.
Travelling in small groups gives you more freedom than large groups of tourists, but none of the hassle of independent travelling, because we take care of the organisation.
Your small group tour in Slovenia will include from 4 to 8 individuals , so you will be able to visit sights and go on experiences that are unsuitable for larger groups. It is easier to adapt any activities or experiences like tours and tastings to a smaller group of people, meaning that your group will be able to make the most of your days in Slovenia.
Your guide will also be able to adjust the schedule to your individual needs and preferences if necessary, so each one of you will get the most out of the holiday . This is impossible with larger groups, as the logistics of moving a large group of people from one place to another and coordinating everything is too time-consuming to allow for off the cuff changes.
With none of the logistical obstacles that come with guiding a large group, and fewer people to focus on, your guide will be able to give you more of his attention. Not only will you develop a more relaxed relationship with him or her, but you will also form closer bonds with everyone else in the group.
As we know, tourism sadly has a negative impact on our environment. Travelling in small groups is significantly more sustainable than mass tourism because the environmental impact of the group is smaller due to overall lower consumption.
We will prepare the travel plan, organize all of the activities, and form a nice group of curious people.
The only thing you have to do is join your fellow travelers, and get to know Slovenia in good company !

"Overall, we liked the itinerary. It was a mixture of history; culture; past, current and future economic development; spectacular scenery, etc. We liked and appreciated our guide/driver. He was knowledgeable, affable, and a reliably safe and cautious driver. He was also anticipatory of our needs and readily adapted to our preferences and circumstances . "
"We were pleasantly surprised with Slovenia, its people and with the diverse package it offers to tourists; Bled is a picture postcard destination, but Ljubljana surprised us with its elegance and vibrance. All this and everyone at Slovenia Tours made our Slovenian adventure all the more memorable. The choice of hotels couldn't have been better, and the choice of driver who also acted as our guide was inspiring; he was knowledgeable, practical and he planned every trip in such detail so as to cater for all our needs including accessibility and personal interests. His sense of humour rendered our journeys even more entertaining. We shall certainly recommend all this to our friends for value for money, attention to detail and peace of mind; we had the freedom of having our own transportation, without the risks and responsibilities of a self-drive car. Thanks and well-done to our driver-guide, Kristina and Slovenia Tours."
"We really enjoyed this trip and are so grateful to have had the opportunity to finally explore Slovenia and to meet you in person. For the most part, I think our students really enjoyed the experience as well. I sincerely hope that more groups from our school can make trips here and that we continue working with you in the future. The Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle visits were a big hit - we would definitely repeat this with another group in the future! We all really enjoyed the Ljubljana hotel you arranged for us; it was in a perfect location and very comfortable! The students had many compliments about it. From everything we saw, we loved our visit to Slovenia and I would love to return myself in the coming years if not maybe even again next year!"
“We had such a great trip! Since we’ve been back we continue to reminisce about how much fun it was and we have shared with so many people about the trip. You did a great job of planning it. Thank you!”

Slovenia Small Group Tour Overview:
The northeast Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia derives its long name from Julius Caesar, who founded the city of Cividale del Friuli (forum Iulii) in 53 BC, and from Venice, of whose territory it was once a part. Here we’ll discover Romans, Lombards, Huns and Austrians. Our four night stay in Grado features lagoon view rooms. Visits to the ancient Roman city of Aquileia , charming Udine , magnificent Trieste and a Collio winery highlight our time .
Slovenia is a small, scenic country of less than 2 million inhabitants bordering Friuli. It has a dynamic culture, welcoming people and a wonderful geographical diversity. Slovenians descend from the Slav tribes that migrated to the region after the fall of the Roman Empire, passed centuries under the rule of various counts and then the Habsburgs and, finally, broke away from the former Yugoslav Federation in 1991 to form their own nation.
We stay 3 nights in the capital Ljubljana , your next favorite city and the Green Capitol of Europe! We’ll visit Ptuj , the country’s oldest settlement and the small villages of Kropa and Škofja Loka . A train ride will take us through the famous Postojna Caves . Enjoy stunning views from your lake view rooms on beautiful Lake Bled . A pletna boat ride, an optional hike through Vintgar Gorge and great food and wines complete your three-night stay. This trip is run once every other year so make it yours in 2023!

The Grado lagoon , part of the north Adriatic coastal floodplain, is a unique nature reserve, home to numerous species of aquatic birds and a great variety of vegetation. The island of Grado , a port during the Roman era, was settled by refugees fleeing the barbarian invasions of the 5th century, then became an important commercial and political center during medieval times. Grado has a charming historic district, wide swaths of sandy beaches and a long promenade.
Our lodging is the waterfront Laguna Palace Hotel (4 nights). Included transfers from Trieste airport and Trieste city center followed by late afternoon orientation tour of Grado, aperitifs and welcome dinner.
Slovenia Photo Tour
The Lombards completed a centuries-long odyssey from Scandinavia to Italy, arriving opportunely just at the end of the devastating Goth-Byzantine wars in 568 A.D. Finding the peninsula exhausted and depopulated they took over most of it and ruled for two hundred years, restoring civilization and leaving behind a unique cultural heritage. Cividale del Friuli became their first capital and, this morning, their archaeological museum will recount to us the fascinating story of the Longobardi .
This afternoon we’ll explore the Collio , the predominately white winemaking region in the Gorizia Hills that extends into Slovenia. We’ll tour a cantina that sits on the border near Šmartno and have lunch with a taste of their wines which include Chardonnay and the traditional Brda vines Sivi Pinot, Tokaj, Sauvignon and Beli Pinot.
Legend says that Attila watched Aquileia burn from the hilltop where now stands the castle of Udine . Certainly the castle predates its first historical mention in 983 but the town was of little significance until the beginning of its near four century domination by the Republic of Venice in 1420. Appointed to govern the province of Friuli it soon transformed itself into a splendid city of noble palaces and notable works of art still visible today.
Our local guide tour of Udine takes us through the elegant and lively historic center followed by free time to explore on your own and an included lunch at a local trattoria.
The visit continues at the marvelous Patriarch’s Palace , home of the Museo Diocesano , an enormous 15th century library and the wonderful Gallery of Giambattista Tiepolo , the foremost Venetian painter of the 18th century.
Aquileia was founded as a Roman town and port in the 2nd century B.C. and over the following six centuries became the fourth largest city in Italy. Its strategic location was the terminus of the trading route that linked the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea and was the Imperial gateway to Asia Minor . With a population of 100,000 it flourished as an agricultural, crafts and cultural center for centuries until the calamity called Attila the Hun arrived in 452 A.D. Aquileia regained prominence in the medieval period through their great Patriarchs when Friuli was a part of the Holy Roman Empire . The Basilica of Aquileia has its origins in the 4th century, was rebuilt several times, but most of what you see now is Romanesque – Gothic style 11th century construction. One hundred years ago the original 4th century mosaic floor was discovered and brought to light – 760 square meters of some of the most wonderful mosaics of the ancient world!
Our local guide will take us on a walk through 1500 years of history that includes the Roman forum, the ancient port, the Basilica and the archeological museum .
Afternoon boat trip through the Grado Lagoon to the Isola di Barbana . Included dinner.
Castle Miramare , called the upper Adriatic jewel of the Habsburg Empire, was built in the 1850s as a residence for the Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, later the ill-fated emperor of Mexico. The castle is a lovely period piece, highlighted by the Duke’s bedroom and office that were modeled on the cabin and stern wardroom of the warship that he commanded to circumnavigate the world.
Our next stop is spectacular Trieste , one of Italy’s most impressive cities. After warring with the Republic of Venice for two centuries, Trieste, in 1382, petitioned the Habsburgs to become part of Austria, of which it remained until annexed by the Kingdom of Italy following the end of World War I, but, in a long and contorted history, did not officially and finally become a part of the Republic of Italy until 1954. Our local guide will illuminate all this and more.
This afternoon we’ll visit the Lipica Stud Farm , home to the famous Lipizzaner horses since the 16th century. After a walk through the estate we’ll be treated to a performance of the Classical Riding School.
Late afternoon transfer to Ljubljana , the sparkling capital city of Slovenia. We’ll be staying three nights at Hotel Cubo located just a short walk off the main square.
Ljubljana has the most beautiful historic center, contained within a sprawling pedestrian zone that flanks both sides of the willow-lined Ljubljanica River , with animated cafés and restaurants, magnificent Baroque buildings and bridges. This morning our local guide will proudly walk us through the old town, highlighted by the works of Slovenia’s greatest architect, Joze Plecnik, the outdoor markets, and loomed over by the Ljubljana Castle which houses a fine multi-media historical museum .
This afternoon you’ll be free to explore the winding streets and quaint shops, walk through the immense Tivoli Park, take a boat ride or just park yourself at a riverside café and watch a different version of life pass by.
Included dinner.
Morning in beautiful Ptuj , the oldest city in Slovenia and once an important Imperial Roman commercial and administrative center.
Hermann Potočnik Noordung (1892-1929) was a rocket scientist and space pioneer architect who first conceived and designed the orbital wheel-shaped space station in 1928. This afternoon we’ll visit the fascinating Space Technologies Museum in Vitanje dedicated to Potočnik’s work and furthering progress in space colonization.
Evening free.
Morning departure for the picturesque , magnificent , defiant , mysterious , and impregnable Predjama Castle . Built into the side of a vertical 123-metre high cliff 700 years ago, it entered into history under control of the Patriarch of Aquileia and later passed to the dukes of Austria. Our local expert will take us through the fascinating history of the castle, tell stories of its colorful inhabitants and describe how people once lived and worked there. Included lunch.
Just a few kilometers away from the castle is the world famous Postojna Caves where we’ll be taken a kilometer and a half deep into the earth by electric cave train. The length of the entire two-track circle line is 3.2 km. The cave train, with a top speed of 13/km per hour, has been taking visitors around the caves for 140 years. At the Great Mountain you will continue the tour on foot through awe-inspiring passages, tunnels and spectacular halls. After viewing the human fish in the aquarium we’ll re-board the train for our return to the surface.
Transfer to enchanting Bled where we’ll spend three nights at the truly Grand Hotel Toplice .
Some 14,000 years ago a receding glacier left in its wake the beauty now called Lake Bled . Surrounded by high mountains, a dramatically placed 11th century cliffside castle and its tiny island with 99 steps leading up to the exquisite Church of the Assumption, the lake presents a fairy tale setting like no other.
Optional early morning hike through the spectacular Vintgar Gorge , a narrow wooden path overlooking the rapids and waterfalls of the emerald green Radovna River.
Mid morning walk to Vila Bled (Tito’s Villa) to ponder Socialist realism murals and mosaics and to taste the excellent kremšnita cake. We’ll take a pletna boat ride to Bled Island where you’ll discover to what purpose men attempt to carry their brides up the daunting steps. In the church you can ring the wishing bells to bid someone good health or fortune.
Late afternoon visit to Bled Castle and its fine museum.
Radovljica is an attractive town perched defensively 250 feet above the Sava River Valley. At its center is the medieval Linhartov Square showing off both Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Gostilna Lectar , a 180 year old family-run inn and restaurant will host us for a very entertaining evening.
For hundreds of years the small village of Kropa was a major producer of nails and railroad spikes for southern Europe. This morning we’ll have a guided visit to the Iron Forging Museum & Vice Forge where the history of metalworking and local life and customs will come alive.
After time on your own to explore Kropa and lunch on traditional Slovenian dishes we’ll go to Škofja Loka for a guided visit to a typical 15th century Slovene home.
Late afternoon free to explore the 1000 year old town of Bled, take the two hour walk around the lake or go by horse-drawn carriage or tourist train.
Included farewell dinner.

Slovenia Tour Selection Trips
- There’s more to Slovenia than Lake Bled! Take time to explore more of the country if you can.
- Ljubljana is not particularly well served with flights compared to other European hubs. It may be worth combining Slovenia with Italy or Croatia as you may need to fly in/out of there in any case.
- Avoid crowds by visiting outside of peak season (July and August) - May, June and September are great months to visit.
- Put your feet up and watch the world go by at a riverside cafe in Ljubljana.
- Take a wander around Tivoli Park in Ljubljana - just in case you needed any more fresh air!
- Check what activities are included in your tour so you can pack accordingly: walking boots/shoes, a waterproof layer, and a refillable water bottle are all but expected if hiking or walking is included in your itinerary.

Longer trips, anywhere from an average of 2-4 weeks, often explore multiple European countries by means of boat, train, plane, or bus, and focus on active travel, cultural immersion, famous sightseeing, and authentic touring.
10 Top Things to Do in Lake Bled
Lake Bled is Slovenia’s iconic town -- a picturesque cluster of white buildings with bright red roofs, nestled between green hills and surrounding a peaceful lake, it’s no wonder its the most photographed spot in Slovenia.
Here is a list of the top things you must do your on your next visit to Lake Bled:
1. Visit the Lake Bled Castle
Perched on a cliff overlooking the lake, a short hike to the castle will afford you with the best view for miles around. For history buffs, there is also a museum walking through the history of the area and the castle itself.
2. Take a Ride at Straza Bled
Take a “roller coaster” ride in the semi-automatic sled run down Lake Bled’s own ski resort, it’s sure to get your blood pumping!
3. Take a Ferry to Bled Island
This is the tiny, tear-drop shaped island in the center of the lake. At its center, there is the ornate and magical Church of Assumption , which is definitely worth a look around. Afterwards, take a rest and enjoy a drink from the island’s cafe.
4. Vintgar Gorge
A two hour walk from the lake, this is hidden treasure features a dramatic ravine, crystal-clear water, and a gorgeous waterfall . It’s definitely the perfect day time activity!
5. Take a Hike
Even without a specific location in mind, the trails around Lake Bled are fantastic. Try exploring Triglav National Park . Lake Bled is the origin for several longer, multi-day hikes.
6. Try Lake Bled's Version of a Millefeuille
After a day of exercise, treat yourself to the divine Kremšnita cake -- a kind of cream cake, and a Slovenian specialty.
7. Paddleboat on Lake Bled
If it’s summertime, there is no better way to drink in your surroundings than on your own little paddleboat. There are various vendors that rent the boats around the lake, and if you find yourself getting hot on the water -- jump in!
8. Take a Ride on a Pletna
This is the alternative to rowing your own boat. This traditional Slovenian flat-bottomed boat is made by locals and hand paddled by two oarsmen.
9. Go Whitewater Rafting on the Soca River
If you’re looking for adventure, look no further. Whitewater rafting combines fun and beauty as you go down the Soca River, which is a stunning, impossibly cerulean color. There are multiple whitewater rafting tours that start in Lake Bled.
10. See Lake Bled on a Hot Air Balloon
This bucket-list item could be made no better than doing it over Lake Bled, one of the most picturesque locations in the world.
Top Slovenia Tours
Slovenia has so much to offer and each tour operator’s goal is to create a well-rounded trip. They also know what type of tour is best for the country. Slovenia is known for its beautiful natural scenery. Many tours offer unique excursions that highlight the country’s flora and fauna.
Slovenia Bike Tours
Many tour operators offer bike tours through Slovenia and other nearby countries. Most itineraries include Slovenia’s top attractions like Triglav National Park, Lake Bled, Soča River, and Piran. Some tours even stop by Slovenia’s wine country which is known for its historical and pristine wines.
Because of the alpine terrain, another thrilling option to explore the peaks of Slovenia is mountain biking . If mountain biking isn’t your passion, but you still want to experience the mountains in a different way than the traditional form of cycling, you can also go on a motorcycle tour of the country.
Hiking in Slovenia
Slovenia’s hiking tours are mainly concentrated in Triglav National Park . And a large portion of the Julian Alps is a part of Triglav National Park making some of the best hiking trails in the world. Most tours also spend time in Slovenia’s charming towns like Ljubljana and Piran . While these trips are all very active, each hiking tour varies on the level of difficulty. Some can be more relaxed while others can be quite extraneous. When looking at each tour, make sure to note the suggested mileage of each hike to get a better idea of how challenging it is.
Wildlife of Slovenia
On your hiking tour, keep your eyes open for wildlife and some of the natural features of Slovenia. You may see a chamois, a distinct kind of mountain goat, a brown bear, mountain ibex, or a herd of roe deer.
If you’re in Postojna cave, maybe you’ll see the infamous “Human Fish” , or the proteus. This animal is one of the symbols of Slovenia as it can only be found in a single cave, and one of the most incredible on earth. It can live for over 100 years, go without eating for 14, and although it is an amphibian, it lives entirely underwater.
Slovenia and Croatia Travel
Slovenia is a relatively small country, and if you are staying here for an extended amount of time, it is suggested that you visit some of its neighbors. Croatia shares Slovenia’s southern borders and is often included when taking a tour of Slovenia. Most tours that include both countries focus on each location’s unique culture, history and terrain. You will visit towns that date back to medieval times and hike through beautiful landscapes. While exploring both countries, you will see how Slovenia and Croatia are a great compliment to one another.
Luxury and Culture in Slovenia
Although it is renowned for its pristine natural sights and the various opportunities to explore the outdoors, there are other ways to experience Slovenia. Luxury tours will also focus on culinary and historical aspects of Slovenia, from its involvement in World War II, to its fascinating and complex cultural identity. On these tours, you will be staying elegant hotels, rather than hostels, where you can take a warm bubble bath after a long day outdoors.
Slovenia is also typically a stop along the way of many luxury Danube river tours .
Climate and weather in Slovenia
Slovenia’s climate is a combination of Alpine and Mediterranean European. The coast benefits from mild winters and warm summers, while Ljubljana can be quite rainy during early spring and late autumn each year. Slovenia is also a winter destination for those that enjoy winter sports and the white stuff, with some areas in the Julian Alps offering skiing in winter months.
Every May, Bohinj hosts the Meadow Flower Festival on the slopes next to Lake Bohinj---by all accounts quite a beautiful sight. Spring and Autumn draw in far fewer crowds in popular areas such as Bled and Ljubljana than in the summer. As with much of Europe, weather is (increasingly) subject to sudden change, so a waterproof or umbrella may come in handy even in summer.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our small group trip to Slovenia caters to travelers in their 20s and 30s looking for natural beauty in Lake Bled, old-town magic in Ljubljana, and wine-country fun without the crowds.
Nestled off the northeast of the Adriatic, this central European stunner remains far from the well-trodden tourist trail, and we couldn't be happier. With miles of open countryside, hundreds of medieval castles, and views of the towering Alps, it's a staggering region that delivers an unparalleled balance of adventure and tranquility.
Culturally rich and influenced by the natural world at every turn, Slovenia stands alone in authenticity and charm. So, if you’re in love with the less-visited and ready for the real, this is the one for you.

Day 1 - B led Welcome Views
Welcome to spellbinding Slovenia! After some staggering landscapes on your ride over, you’ll get things started at the base of the Julian Alps as you nestle right into oh-so-beautiful Bled.
Settle into your hotel before we meet up for a traditional Slovenian welcome dinner at a local joint nearby. If you taste hints of something familiar, you’ve got the right idea. Slovenian cuisine tends to borrow the best of the best from nearby Italy, Austria, and Hungary.
So, eat up and share some laughs; you’ve made it to one of Europe’s most beautiful, off-the-beaten-track destinations.
Day 2 - Bled Best of Bled
After grabbing a bite, it's time to soak up the sights of one of the continent's iconic natural beauties.
Meet up with the rest of the crew before we head to the lake for a cruise over to Bled Island. With the Alps as your mammoth green backdrop, we'll hop ashore for a bit of exploration and a local sweet-treat cooking class. We'll have lunch together back in town, and then, your afternoon is free.
We highly recommend trekking up to Bled Castle, the red-roofed medieval manor that hangs out on a rocky precipice over the lake. Grab a coffee with one epic view and bask in this 11th-century stronghold. After a day of lake-loving, the evening's free for you to unwind with friends.
Day 3 - B led To the Mountain
You've got the morning to relax and take in more of those epic sights before we head out to climb high for even better ones.
After a short ride, we'll hop out in Bohinj for a casual bite with towering lakeside views of the rugged Julian Alps (not exactly a horrible way to dine with friends). From there, things are only looking up…literally. We're going to ride the wild Vogel Mountain cable car for views that'll have you swearing in Slovenian. From a hair under a mile high, you'll look out over endless peaks, rugged pine forests, and the glassy glow of Lake Bohinj.
We’ll return to Bled in the afternoon, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Whether it's a lakeside stroll or a relaxing spa session, take your time to unwind and soak up more of Slovenia's unbeatable beauty.
Day 4 - Bled, Maribor River Walkers
Lace-up those sneaks early; we’ve got a bit of adventure in store for ya today—we’re twisting our way through nearby Vintgar Gorge in Triglav National Park.
Chiseled by the Radovna River, this 250-meter-deep crevice is one of Slovenia’s most loved natural wonders. Stroll along the elevated wooden pathway that hugs the craggy rock walls of this Slovenian showstopper and peer down to roaring blue-green rapids and waterfalls. From there, we’ll grab a coffee, and then we’re rolling on to the ancient riverside charmer, Maribor.
Of course, before we get there, we’ll need a bite, so it only makes sense to stop off at a picturesque local farm for a mouthwatering taste of the countryside with the nicest family around. That evening, we’ll wind into Slovenia’s second city.
Day 5 - Maribor, Ljubljan a Wine Time
Grab a bite in the hotel; you’ll need the fuel and the base layer.
Today’s all about sampling some of Slovenia’s grapey goods, so let’s get things started in the misty rolling hills outside of town for our first taste paired exquisitely with countryside views. We’ll hit up a vineyard that’s been producing some of the country’s finest wines since the 1800s as we discover what makes this region so great for a glass of red or white. Of course, one vineyard just won’t cut it, so after an intro, we’re moving on to a second winery for lunch and another tasting.
Now that we’ve perfected our palettes, it’s time to ride off to Ljubljana for our first taste of the capital. Drop your bags at the hotel and then head out with the crew for a bite to welcome you to town.
Day 6 - Ljubljana country Cuisine
Say good morning to the big city...well, the biggest city in Slovenia, that is. Ljubljana may not be Europe’s largest capital, but we assure you, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in atmosphere and character.
You’ll be getting a taste of the local, the natural, the wild, and the delicious as you head out into Slovenia’s captivating countryside today. We’ll meet up with our very own outdoorsman extraordinaire, and then we’ll wander into the wilderness for a midday hike to forage wild herbs. It’s all part of our culinary quest—after hitting the woods, we’ll head to the kitchen to learn how to whip up a meal from our bounty under the watchful eye of our adventurous chef.
In the afternoon, head back to town, explore the capital’s Renaissance-infused streets, and grab dinner and drinks with friends.
Day 7 - Ljubljana Ljubljana loungin'
Grab an early breakfast or catch up on some rest; today's all about appreciating this absurdly beautiful capital.
In the morning, you'll have the option of joining a cruise of the Ljubljanica River and a walking tour to take it all in. With romantic stone bridges and nature that seeps into the city at every corner, it's easy to fall hard for lovely Ljubljana. If you're in the market for souvenirs for friends back home, stroll down to Plečnik's Market between the Triple and Dragon bridges. Or, if you're after more nature, consider organizing a day trip to the karst wonderland of Postojna Cave and the impressive stone 16th-century Predjama Castle.
Get back to the capital by the evening before we all head out for one final bite of Slovenia and a few more bottles of wine to toast to our fellow travel mates as we bid this beautiful country farewell.
Day 8 - Ljubljana Nasvide nje
It's time to say goodbye to the crew, so grab one more laugh with breakfast before you roll out. This trip may be in the books, but all that means is that it's the perfect time to start planning your next adventure.
If you've got extra time in Europe, consider popping over to the Basque Country for some of our favorite eats in the entire world, down to Crete for epic seaside views, or to the Tuscan hills for more wine in paradise.
Thanks for coming, and keep on exploring—there's always more of the world to see.
“As you travel around Slovenia, think of the tales the hills could tell you. Share the awe of natural wonder; tread the trails, but as you wander honor the age-old endeavors to be literate, informed, democratic and free.” - Jacqueline Widmar Stewart
Just for fun
There are only 2.6 million people in Slovenia, but there are 46 (!) dialects spoken.
Slovenians love wine. By some estimations, there’s a vineyard for every 70 people.
More than 53% of land is protected in Slovenia. That’s the second most in the entire world!
While we can’t guarantee private rooms, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up.
Summer in Slovenia can be quite warm and sunny, so pack accordingly.
Getting to Bled from Ljubljana is easy! There is a 1 hour bus from Ljubljana Station that costs around €5 or you could take a taxi from Ljubljana airport for €50-€65. If you prefer a train, you can ride to Bled for around €15.
On European trips, we stay as close to historic city centers as possible. This means your accommodations will often be on the small side, quirky, and unique (we love this!).
More information regarding visa requirements and Covid restrictions can be found here .
About Slovenia
A small central European nation, Slovenia remains largely undiscovered by tourists and in turn provides those who do visit with the unique opportunity to experience an authentic and unspoiled destination in the heart of Europe. From the massive peaks of the Julian Alps to the rolling hills of wine country, this is a nature lover's paradise, where the great outdoors has out outsized impact on daily life.
GOOD TO KNOW
Slovenian is the official language of the Republic of Slovenia.
The currency in Slovenia is the euro.
While tipping is not mandatory, 10% is appreciated for good service.
Fly into Ljubljana (LJU)
You’ll need to get to Bled by 5pm on day 1; however, we recommend flying in earlier so that you have some time to explore Ljubljana on your own. From Ljubljana you can take a 1 hour bus from Ljubljana Station for around €5 or a taxi from Ljubljana airport for €50-65.
Fly out of Ljubljana (LJU)
We recommend flying out of Ljubljana or extending your trip and enjoying a few more days in Slovenia.

The 6 Best Slovenia Tours For Unforgettable Adventures That Are Achievable & Affordable!
Posted on Last updated: October 13, 2023
Categories Tours , Europe , Slovenia
Expert travel storyteller Jordan Adkins, founder of InspiredByMaps.com, brings a decade of adventures across 101 countries and 450+ UNESCO sites into rich, off-the-beaten-path narratives, melding ecological expertise with genuine, seasoned travel insights. His full bio can be found here.
Slovenia is a small country in Central Europe, bordered to the west by Italy, to the north by Austria, to the northeast by Hungary, and to the south and southeast by Croatia. Slovenia, despite its small size, has a diverse landscape, ranging from the Julian Alps in the northwest to the rolling hills of the Slovenian Littoral in the southwest and the flat Pannonian Plain in the northeast.
And this diversity is exactly what makes it so exciting to discover via group travel and the best Slovenia tours…
The country, which has its capital in Ljubljana and is known for its charming Old Town, lively marketplaces, and picturesque bridges over the Ljubljanica River, has a rich history and natural beauty. With its dazzling cultural attractions, such as the Ljubljana Castle, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the city.
There are numerous parks that showcase the natural beauty of this magnificent country. Hiking, skiing, and whitewater rafting are popular activities in the Triglav National Park, which also houses the country’s highest peak, Mount Triglav. The Soča River, which runs through the park, provides excellent opportunities for fly-fishing and kayaking.
There are numerous activities available here. If you’re not hiking or strolling through this enthralling park, you’re probably just sitting back and admiring the breathtaking scenery. What could be more relaxing than watching master kayakers perform freestyles in the river?
With over 28,000 wineries in the country, it will be a perfect idea to hop on a wine tour and taste the best and rich wines you can find. Couple that with mouth-watering traditional food tours and thank us later.
When a perfect destination with endless possibilities for memorable moments comes your way, you may find yourself wondering where to even begin your trip planning and how you can possibly get the most out of your chosen travel destination.
We understand how you feel, which is why we take the worry of finding the best trips off your shoulders, so you can focus on more important things like budgeting for your trip on the go. We will give you the six best tours to discover Slovenia without hassle. We will gladly pave the way for you to get set and go on your dream adventure.
But before we go further, we wish to share with you the best way to travel to Slovenia feeling energetic and all ready to hit the beaten track – set for an everlasting memory. There are many ways to travel to Slovenia and get the most out of this undoubtedly amazing country. We always tell travelers to get on a group tour and when we do, we give tangible reasons why they should.
Traveling in a group can be the most rewarding and best decision you’ve ever made as your first step on an adventurous journey; it’s the key to unlocking the door to your ultimate adventure.
There are numerous reasons to join a group tour for an unforgettable travel experience and here is why.
Your safety and well-being throughout your journey will play a significant role in determining the outcome of your experience, especially if you are new to the travel industry. This is where group tours can help. First-timers find it hard to figure out what to do and at what time.
This can be so annoying and truly unnecessary when you have someone who can take off all that stress. The best part of traveling is when you know that you have everything in place and taken care of by an industry expert. The feeling of grabbing your bag with ease and confidence is so much worth a try.
Some of us are concerned about how much money we can set aside for a thrilling adventure. In Slovenia, group tours are less expensive than traveling alone. Finding that ideal location that is accessible from key tourist attractions, as well as taking care of your meals and transportation, can be extremely expensive when compared to a group tour that essentially includes everything you will need.
To add to the expense of doing everything on your own, so much time can be wasted just trying to find the cheapest hotel room that is available and close to the tourist hub. Why do you have to do all that hard work, Pal?
So, much as we have done for the best Serbia tours and best Romania tours , here we are going to be talking about one of the best Slovenia tours (and their operators), so you can be inspired – and then choose with confidence.

Slovenia Group Tours for Solo Travellers
Travel solo as part of a group tour to Slovenia
Why travel solo to Slovenia?
From glacial lakes to Alpine peaks, Slovenia is a bit of a show off when it comes to natural beauty – and she also claims bragging rights over one of the greenest capitals on earth.
Ljubljana, with its leafy green spaces and car-free city centre, is the face of the future, where influences from neighbouring Italy and Hungary make themselves apparent in a capital that still feels proudly Slovenian.
But it’s in the wild that Slovenia gets really spectacular as the Julian Alps rise up in the north, a small stretch of Adriatic beckons along the coast and its most celebrated sight, Lake Bled, lays on sun-soaked SUP safaris and the chance to circle around a storybook 16th-century castle.
After an active, escape, but short on time? A solo group adventure in Slovenia has you covered.
TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN SLOVENIA
From the moment you arrive in Ljubljana, you’ll have your head turned by its architecture, food and people. Whether you’re strolling through the picturesque old town or taking in the views from the castle, it’s all too easy to fall in love with this compact capital.
TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK
Covering an area of more than 800 square kilometres in size, Triglav National Park is home to the towering Mount Triglav as well as numerous hiking trails and climbing spots.Nature lovers, take note: there are peaks and pristine valleys to tick off here, as well as brown bear, lynx, chamois and other wildlife.
In the pindrop-quiet Julian Alps, Lake Bled is every bit as serene as you imagine. Whether you’re hiking the lake shore or heading out to lake-enfolded Bled island, right in the middle, the water here will leave you mesmerised.
Lake Bohinj
Bigger and wilder than its better-known sister, Slovenia’s largest lake lays on hiking trails around its shoreline and waterborne adventures on its glassine surface. Glide across by boat or cut loose with kayaking before collapsing in quiet coves.

In Slovenia, group tours are less expensive than traveling alone. Finding that ideal location that is accessible from key tourist attractions, as well as taking care of your meals and transportation, can be extremely expensive when compared to a group tour that essentially includes everything you will need.
