How to Create a Weight Loss Vision Board

By: Author Stephanie Miller

Categories Wellness

Do you want to create a weight loss vision board? If so, then this blog post is for you! It will cover the steps to creating your own unique goal board that will motivate you on your journey.

Whether it’s an exercise goal, weight loss goal, or any other type of health-related goals – these visual inspirational boards are great tools for staying focused and motivated.

A vision board can help to localize your goals, ideals, and inspirational motivators like quotes and photos of others.

What Is a Weight Loss Goal or Motivation Board?

A weight loss motivation board is a tool you can use to help motivate your weight loss journey.

These boards include visual representations of healthy eating, body types, motivational quotes, overall aesthetics, and other visual goal connections.

Vision boards are useful tools to help you visualize realistic and healthy goals to make your journey to this weight loss destination more enjoyable and attainable in times of stress or self-doubt.

Do Vision Boards Work?

Weight loss vision boards can help motivate you , provide inspiration, and keep you on track when you are feeling down or lost about your progress. In this regard, they do work!

However, a vision board is not the only piece needed for the weight loss puzzle. You will also need a solid plan for healthy weight loss and realistic goals.

A vision board is an effective motivator, and can help you stay focused on the long-term goal when daily progress isn’t always noticeable.

The Best Ideas To Include on a Weight Loss Goal & Vision Board

Goals .

The main thing that should be included on your weight loss vision board are your goals!

These could be body goals, aesthetic goals, or even energy or stamina goals you wish to achieve. The important thing about including body goals is that you pick bodies that still look like yours but just where you want your body to be.

Stick with body goals that are similar to your body type.

I’m 5’5″ and have always had thicker legs rather than long slim legs. So, my vision board would include images that would look more like that than a 5’10” woman with long thin legs.

This way, you will not beat yourself up for being unable to attain unrealistic expectations presented by others whose bodies are not similar in type to yours.

An aesthetic goal is also nice to add to your board because it can help you remember your goal of how you want to feel when exercising or when you have reached your weight loss goal.

This could be a more flexible, gymnast-like aesthetic, or more of a powerful lifting and muscle-building aesthetic. Boards made with these differences would absolutely have different feels and help you to remember the energies you want to embody with them.

Inspirational Quotes

Another great thing to add to your vision board is inspirational quotes. Pinterest is a great place to do a search for inspirational quotes .

Quotes exist for many emotions, situations, and energies, which is why they are a great motivator to include in your vision board.

Whether it’s a quote about perseverance and never giving up or about uplifting your mood when you’re starting to feel your self-esteem fall during your journey.

Quotes can help pick you up when you’re feeling down on yourself or unmotivated to continue to reach your goals.

You can use the quotes as a personal mantra, even to continue on your journey, just keep it in your mind and look at it when your motivations start to wane.

You can even print out self-love quotes so that you can foster a healthy relationship with your body during the weight loss journey.

Healthy Foods

You may not think that posting pictures of food would be a good choice on a weight loss vision board, but posting delicious healthy foods is!

Healthy food choices may seem impossible for those of us who love the convenience of frozen meals and fast foods, but pictures of these would help motivate you to make healthier choices.

If you look at a picture of a healthy lasagna or a sheet pan dinner , then you will be more encouraged to meal plan to keep from eating and regretting the food choices.

The pictures and the association with the healthier choices, will help you to make better food choices to go along with a diet and exercise plan that works for you!

This will allow you to build long-term associations with food that is better for you rather than the food of convenience.

How To Create a Weight Loss Vision & Dream Board

Creating a weight loss vision board is simple! All you need are some printed images or magazine clippings of things to create a healthy board of goals.

It is best to create a physical board using a pegboard, cardboard, or poster board so that it can be placed in an area that is strongly related to your weight loss, such as an exercise room or the kitchen.

Placing a physical representation of your goals in these areas will give you something to reference in the most strenuous times of your journey.

You can create the vision board in the same way you would create a collage. You want the board, once finished, to paint a picture of your body goals, eating goals, or even energy goals that you are wanting to achieve.

Adding pictures of those who are of similar body types and are healthy and fit is a great way to strive for attainable body goals. You can also add healthy foods to reinforce better eating habits and inspirational quotes that you can utilize as a personal mantra to complete your goals.

Vision Board Supplies

  • Poster board, presentation board or cork board
  • Pictures, quotes, inspirational items. Can be printed or from magazines.
  • Markers , pens, glue, tape, push pins , etc
  • Anything else you want!

Get as creative as you want…it’s your board!

What Is a Reasonable Weight Loss Goal to Include on a Weight Loss Motivation Board?

When setting weight loss goals, it is important to set reasonable goals that you can achieve in a healthy fashion.

If you set unreachable goals, your motivation will continue to falter because you will not be able to ever achieve the goals, and it is essential that you lose the weight in a healthy way, over time, rather than a slim quick plan that will not last in the long term.

According to Mayo Clinic , a weekly goal of 1 to 2 pounds lost is a great choice. It also continues on to say that a final goal of 5% of your current weight loss is a great starting goal that you can build on, should you need to lose more weight.

Using a Vision Board as Motivation

Using a weight loss vision board may seem self-explanatory, but the way to get the most out of the board is to keep it in a location where it can be seen while you are either exercising or cooking, if your weight loss plan is mainly diet based.

This way, you can see the goals and uplifting messages you created for yourself during the most strenuous times of your weight loss plan.

Referencing the body goals and weight goals will help you to visualize yourself at your goal and how you will look and feel at the end of your journey.

The goal of the vision board is to put you in a headspace that will motivate you to want to see your journey through to the end so you can feel the success of your ending goal image.

Reasons Weight Loss Vision Boards Help People Lose Weight

The reason that a vision board is a useful tool during weight loss is because it helps to foster a healthy mindset. Psychologically, you are more likely to follow through with your goals if you have a more optimistic mindset.

While few studies have been done on the effectiveness of vision boards specifically, the term and psychological aspect of manifestation are utilized in the images and goals related to what you create for your vision board.

As positive goals are created along with ideas for your future, your state of mind and optimism will help you stay motivated throughout your journey.

What Are The Benefits of a Weight Loss Vision Board?

When you decide to create a vision board, you’re essentially taking the first step to creating a healthy lifestyle. Having that visual reminder of your goals and why you want them will help reinforce these positive changes in your life.

It gives you something fun to look at, but it also reminds you daily about who YOU want to be: fit, happy, healthy…

Benefits include:

  • Increased motivation to stay on track with your goals
  • It helps you to focus on what’s important and keeps you accountable
  • Increases your chance of success because you’re taking a more proactive approach
  • It gives you a sense of accomplishment as you check off each goal

stay motivated with your vision Board

Continue to add to your board as you see inspirational things to help.

Weight loss dream boards can be a huge help for sticking with your weight loss plan when you are having a bad day.

Whether you are having a particularly unmotivated day during your workout plan, or you are struggling with your body image and food choices, a weight loss vision board that has been set up in a healthy way, for you, can be a wonderful asset to keeping you uplifted and ready to keep on going towards your goals!

HOW TO MAKE A WEIGHT LOSS VISION BOARD THAT WORKS

Discover how to make a vision board weight loss that works and makes it easy to reach your fitness, wellness, and health goals.

Last week, I headed over to my friend’s house to catch up before we hit up our favorite yoga class.

I legit treasure this weekly tradition because I always leave the class feeling accomplished, happy, connected and energized. The workout is just an added bonus.

I get to her house early so we can chit chat about work, guys, her cute new Victoria Secret yoga pants & the upcoming semi-annual sale. Minutes before we had to leave, she hit the bathroom and I hit the kitchen to re-fill my water bottle.

I saw the aerobic class schedule hanging on her fridge, surrounded by a bunch of super skinny ‘fitspo’ pictures. My energy instantly shifted when I saw “DON’T BE A FAT BITCH!!!!” written across the top of the class schedule.

Excuse me?  Don’t talk about my bff like that!  But I get it…

My friend’s intention was to use these images and words as motivation.

What she didn’t know was that her ‘vision board’ was actually making her goal body harder to get.

As someone who used to struggle with my health, weight, and confidence.

I can honestly say, dieting and exercise straight up sucks when:

♥  You don’t LOVE your body

♥  You feel hopeless and insecure in your own skin

♥  You struggle with confidence, food cravings, and motivation

♥  You’re anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, burned out, tired, and depressed

If your intent is to get fit and healthy and you start to compare yourself to some hotty with a body, you can start to feel really bad about yourself.

“I’ll never get there”

“Their body is better than my body”

“My stomach will never look like that”

“I’m not that strong”

“I don’t look like that in yoga pants”

“I can’t do that”

“I’m so fat, ugly, (fill in the blank) _______”

Kinda hard to get motivated when you feel like that doesn’t it?

MIND RIGHT, BODY TIGHT®

If you want your future life to look completely different then it’s important to focus your mind to happy thoughts that inspire you to make healthy choices that will transform your goal.

Visualization is one of the most powerful exercises you can do to change your mindset, motivation, and body.

A weight loss vision board is one of the most valuable visualization tools there is… only if it’s used the right way.

When done right, a weight loss vision board can make it easier to get motivated to reach your weight loss and wellness goals.

That’s exactly what you’ll learn in today’s episode of CCtv.

In it I share the demotivating mistakes to avoid and the secrets to making a weight loss vision board that actually works.

After you’re done watching, leave a comment on the blog to let me know what things you used on your vision board.

How Vision Boards Work

Your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation. Your emotions serve as energy that activates the Law of Attraction.

When you surround yourself with images that invoke powerful positive emotions and thoughts, your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the affirmations and images.

Ultimately, your vision board programs your subconscious to attract things and manifest habits that make it easier to eat healthy, exercise, and feel motivated.

When you’re truly motivated to lose weight , get healthy, and workout, you’ll be able to reach your goal faster, because you’ll be more consistent.

Visualization is one of the most powerful exercises you can use to change your body.

A tangible board works a lot better than a virtual Pinterest board because the goal is to look at it daily.

WEIGHT LOSS Vision Board IDEAS

Your vision board should include pictures that inspire you and reflect the “vision” you have about how you want to feel and how you want to look.

It’s crucial that you include things that Make. You. Feel POSITIVE when you look at it.

For example, I’m 5’1”.

♥  I want a petite, toned, soft, fit, strong, and feminine look.  That’s how I want to feel in my body. ♥  I want to feel happy and excited and confident – That’s how I want to feel in my mind.

If I used pictures of 5’10 stick-think supermodels, I’d immediately start resenting the fact that I’m not… the emotional equivalent of getting stuck in pity-party quicksand that triggers me to give up, eat and/or skip the gym.

That’s why I use images of fit shorty’s like me that look happy and confident while they’re eating or exercising.  I have a picture of Jillian Michael’s because she’s 5’1 and is admired for helping others get fit and healthy like me. 🙂

The happier your board makes you feel, the easier it will be for you to get your goal. Load your board with as many images, quotes, and words that give you so many happy thoughts that you feel like you could out-fly Peter Pan.

WHAT TO PUT ON YOUR VISION BOARD

Include things you WANT to look at because they make you feel empowered, happy and motivated about eating healthy and moving your body.

It’s also a good idea to make your board visually pleasing because you’re going to be looking at it often and it has to inspire happy thoughts.  So if a poster board with a bunch of mismatched images isn’t your style, you may want to invest in something that resembles home decor more and printing images that work for you.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does 100% have to make YOU FEEL GOOD when you look at it.

Ideas include:

♥  Motivational quotes statements that make you feel confident and empowered

♥  Cards from loved ones that make you feel happy and loved

♥  Pretty pictures healthy food and recipes you’d like to try that make you feel excited about eating them

♥  Exercises or specific training goals – like crossing the finish line of a half marathon or a yoga pose you’d like to master – that make you feel proud and accomplished

♥  The types of clothes you’ll be wearing at your goal weight.  Ideas include, swimsuits, form fitting dresses, you wearing an old pair of pants you’re trying to wear again, etc. – T hat makes you feel positive, confident, and energized!

♥  Images of people you admire, respect that inspire positive feelings and action in you. Ideas include:  Someone you admire, respect love or want to love you, or love like your kids or a man/women you’re attracted to that would feel incredible to have them checking you out!

Whatever you want. As much as you want.

It’s your board, Baby Doll, so put whatever YOU want on it.

Vision Board Supplies You’ll need

You’ll need a board, images, and way to stick the images on the board.

Go with your gut.  The whole goal of this is to feel POSITIVE. Use the supplies that feel good to you.

♥  Poster board, a large sheet of paper, cork board or pin board

♥  Pictures, quotes, photos, and small flat objects that cause Happy thoughts.  Old magazines, photos, small, flat objects, greeting cards, tarot cards,

♥  Glue/pins, markers, scissors, push pins,

♥  You can use glitter, puffy paint, stickers, drawings, too.

It’s YOUR board. Jazz it up however YOU want.

It’s a good idea to create a few weight loss vision boards. I suggest having a main vision board and a few smaller ones scattered throughout your home.

That way you can keep your main board in your bathroom and hang the others in your closet or workspace – anywhere you want extra inspiration and motivation.

vision board magazines

How to Use Your Vision Board to Reach your Fitness and Wellness Goals

♥  Look at your vision board often and feel the inspiration it provides.

♥  Read your affirmations and inspirational words aloud

♥  See yourself living a life in your goal body.

♥  Believe it is already yours.

♥  Be grateful for the good that is already present in your life.

♥  Imagine how it will feel to step on the scale and see the number you want.

♥  Picture yourself shopping for new clothes in smaller sizes…

♥  Acknowledge any goals you have already achieved and feel proud about the progress you’ve made and changes you can see or feel.

A vision board won’t be as effective if you don’t know how to get motivated to lose weight or if you’re not truly ready to lose weight.  It’s hard to get happy and feel motivated if you have hormone imbalances, toxic buildup, or metabolic dysfunction working against you.

So before you start your vision board it’s better to make sure you don’t have something deeper going on.  That’s exactly why I developed my free metabolic analysis and training.

It’s completely free and will let you know if you have any metabolic issues working against you and the best way that you can start fixing it.  If you’re ready to rock, get started by filling out a profile here .

As always, the tips in this post only WORK, only if you work it. So work it you’re worth it!

Loved it!!! Great information with the right focus.

Thank you- gives me hope!

Dee

I have just read this and removed the pic on my fridge. It was of a tall supermodel type girl in a white bikini. I actually cut out my face from another pic and put over this girls face! Every time I looked at it I wasnt motivated at all. It was more the feeling of ‘you are never going to look like that!’ It almost was a joke having it there. The girl in the pic was at least 20 years younger and much taller. I have taken it down now as its purpose was to make me feel good instead it made me feel like I was trying to achieve the impossible.

I’m writing about this in my blog too. Its very important we aren’t making it harder on ourselves.

How to Make a Weight Loss Vision Board that Works

Weight loss vision board on a wall

A weight loss vision board is a great visualization tool to have in your weight loss toolkit.  Indeed, it can help you stay motivated, focused, and committed to your weight, fitness, and overall health goals.

Let’s be honest.  Sometimes it’s hard to have the internal motivation to eat less, watch your portions, and get enough exercise to make you sweat.  So, a weight loss vision board might be the thing you need to manifest your dreams, boost your motivation, and enhance your sense of purpose.

If this sounds good, keep reading to learn about the benefits of using a vision board and for some tips on making one that works for you!

Table of Contents

What is a vision board, clarifies your goals, breaks your goal into smaller steps, visualizes the new you, reminds you of your “big why”, tracks your progress, keeps you motivated, what should you include in your weight loss vision board, identify your goals, sketch a draft, gather your supplies, start creating, display your design, take a picture of your design, refresh your design regularly, positive affirmations for your health and fitness journey, motivational quotes for your weight loss journey, now, it’s your turn.

A vision board is a visual representation of your goals and aspirations .  Although they are sometimes called “ dream boards ,” vision boards are much more than that.  Yes, a dream board is also a visual tool. However, it focuses primarily on using a collage of pictures and words to inspire you to manifest your goals and dreams.  Additionally, many of these types of boards are grounded in the law of attraction and focus on the big vision or dream rather than the specific goals.

Unsurprisingly, vision boards are gaining in popularity in many weight loss programs.  Notably, the focus is not on ways to lose weight but on goal setting and creating the life experiences you want.  Health coaches love recommending them, and their clients l ove the idea of designing and manifesting the life they want .

What Are the Benefits of a Weight Loss Vision Board?

Undeniably, a weight loss vision board is an easy way to organize, plan, and visualize a healthier, slimmer you. Now, let’s be more specific about how a vision board can help you to lose weight.

A primary benefit of making a vision board is to clarify and define your goals. For example, why do you want to lose weight? No, it’s not a silly question.  Common reasons for wanting to lose weight include to:

  • Improve their health (lower blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.)
  • Feel better and improve your energy.
  • Look good for a wedding, high school reunion, or other events.

Indeed, everything else flows when you have a clear goal.

We encourage women to dream big and to dream in color .  However, the vision of losing a significant amount of weight can sometimes be overwhelming.  Undoubtedly, you can create a board that focuses on your short-term goals and break them into smaller, realistic steps .

The saying that a” picture is worth a thousand words” really captures the idea behind a vision board.  Indeed, we often have an idea of want we want, but it is hard to see it.  However, when you put your board in a prominent place and see it often, it trains your mind to help you manifest what you want and attracts positive energy.

Your board is a daily reminder to help you reach your health and weight goals.   Looking at your vision board throughout the day helps to reinforce healthy habits, banish negative self-talk, and encourage you to make choices that align with your weight loss goals.

Your board is an excellent tool for tracking your progress.  You can track your progress with stickers, charts, graphs, and updated images representing each milestone you have achieved.

One of the reasons that vision boards work well is that it keeps you motivated.  Indeed, when you track your progress, read inspirational quotes and intentions, and see the images, they remind you of why you are working so hard.  This really works on those tough days when you slip up.

Now, don’t panic if you’re not a crafty or artistic person.  Indeed, we are not doing a masterclass or entering a competition.  The idea is to have fun and enjoy the process.

Your goal board for weight loss can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.  Here are some things to include when making a vision board:

  • A photo of a dress, pair of jeans, shorts, or swimsuit that you want to fit into.  Seeing this outfit every day brings your goal to life.
  • Your big weight goal (e.g., 25 pounds).
  • Smaller, short-term goals that will help keep you accountable (e.g., 5 pounds a month)
  • Empowering and encouraging quotes, declarations, and intentions to keep you going when you feel like quitting.
  • Inspirational quotes to help you on days you feel like quitting
  • Lists of specific action steps to help you reach your long-term goals.
  • A checklist to help you track your progress over time.
  • Name or photo of your accountable buddy.
  • Photo of books to motivate you

Vision Board Supplies

Now that you know what to include on your board, it’s time to get some supplies. Undoubtedly, you probably already have many of these at home. These are some of the basic supplies you need to make a great physical vision board .  Ideas for making a digital board are discussed later in this article.

  • Blank sheets of paper or whiteboard for the initial layout.
  • Poster board , cork bulletin board , or canvas .  This will serve as the foundation for your vision board. The size you choose depends on where you want to display it and how many pictures, quotes, and affirmations you have, and other design elements you will include.
  • Pictures, magazine clippings, and images that represent whom you want to or where you want to go.  They can come from photo albums, phones, magazines, or your favorite online site.   Cut them out and collect them in a pile.
  • Quotes, intentions, or phrases that represent your dream or goal. Type these out or download and paste them from a digital source.
  • Scissors . Use scissors to cut out the images and words you want to include.
  • Glue or transparent tape . Glue or tape to attach the images and words to your board or canvas.
  • Markers or colored pens and pencils. You can use markers or pens to write your own inspirational quotes or affirmations on your vision board. Additionally, seeing your handwriting adds a special touch.
  • Optional supplies . We also suggest using push pins, gel pens, personal photos, stickers, construction paper cutouts, buttons, miniature clothespins, magnets, streamers, artificial flowers, or other items with special meaning.

How to Create a Weight Loss Vision Board

Now that we’ve explored the benefits of making the board and the supplies you need to make one, it’s time to make one.

Once you’ve clarified why you want to lose weight, it’s time to be specific about other indicators that let you know when you will reach your goals. So, do you know how much you weigh and how much you want to lose?

As mentioned in a previous post , you also need to answer these questions:

Do you know how much you weigh and how much you want to lose?  As mentioned in a previous post , you need to know the answer to these questions:

  • What is your ideal or dream weight?
  • What is your preferred or dream dress size?
  • If you never achieved your desired weight, what weight would be acceptable?
  • What size would be acceptable if you never achieved your desired dress size?
  • How will my life change when I reach my goal?

Remember, your “dream” weight is how much you really, really want to weigh.  It may not be realistic, but this is your goal weight.

Your vision and goals should not be restricted to losing weight. So, make a board that also explores your other dreams and goals to live your best life.  The bottom line is that you want to have a healthy relationship with your body.

Sketch out what you want your board to look like on a blank sheet of paper or whiteboard. You will go through several drafts before you find one you like.  Be patient. It does not have to be done in one day.

Find a place with a large surface to work on (e.g., a table, desk, dressmaker cutting board, or floor).  Now, look at your sketch on your paper and use a ruler to help designate where different elements will go.  Consider putting your goal weight or the image of the outfit you want to get into in the center of the board.  Indeed, this serves as a motivator.

Think about what you’d like to create. So, start with what to put in the middle of the design.  This may include pictures of the clothes you want to get, your next vacation, or the invitation to your friend’s wedding. Or you can put your dream weight in the center of the board in red.

Next, arrange the elements on your poster board or canvas in a way that feels right to you. Use a simple, minimalistic design and avoid cluttering it.

Once you’re satisfied with the design, put it in a prominent location where you will look at it every day. Great places to hang your design include over your desk or on a wall in the kitchen or bathroom.  When you see it every day, it focuses your mind and strengthens your determination.

It’s a great idea to take a picture of your design.  Indeed, it makes a great screensaver for your phone, tablet, or computer.  Additionally, you will have it when you need a boost in the day or when you travel.

It is important to update and refresh your design occasionally.  This helps whether you’re meeting your health and weight goals or missing the ones that you’ve set.  So, refresh it when you have self-doubt or feel overwhelmed or discouraged by your big vision.  Take a break and start again in a few days.  Update your pictures, set new goals and intentions, and find new empowering words and quotes. You can also look for new fun ways to get fit and new healthy foods to try.

How to Create a Digital Weight Loss Vision Board

I confess that I am a techie. Thus, a digital board works better for me than a physical one. Instead of using a physical board and cutting and pasting images, I create a digital version on my computer.  Undeniably, you will enjoy the process of making a digital board.  Here’s what you need:

  • Computer, phone, or tablet .  I prefer using a computer because I prefer working on a larger screen.  I often use the mouse to cut, paste, and move the elements around.  A tablet with a digital pencil also works well if you’re proficient at it.
  • Software, app, or cloud service .   The easiest and most accessible thing to use is a presentation or slide software such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Apple Keynote. Other options are to use cloud-based sites like Canva, Adobe Spark, or PicMonkey.  Many of these sites have free versions.
  • Images and quotes .   One of the best things about a digital design is that you have all the elements at the click of a button.  You can retrieve your personal photos from the cloud or search for images online.  Additionally, you can search for words of inspiration, emojis, GIFs, and other elements to use and reinforce your vision.
  • Screenshots . Include screenshots of books to motivate you .

The process of putting it together is similar to making a physical board.  Once you have your images and text, start arranging them on your digital canvas.  Be sure to take short breaks and save the work as you go.

Download and save your design to your digital device when it is done.  You can also print and put it on a physical board.

A vision board can help you clarify your goals, establish a plan to reach your goals, and then give you a valuable place to check in with and reconnect with your goals throughout the year. You guys, I love vision boards – for these reasons, but for other ones, too.

Printable Weight Loss Vision Board Template

First of all – a vision board can be whatever you want it to be. You can read this post with vision board ideas and inspiration to help you get started if you’re totally new to vision boarding (you can also check out my vision boarding book, Make Anything Happen, when it’s available this summer – woohoo! ). Some people like to create one big, all-encompassing vision board. Others like to break it down into topics they want to focus on.

There are lots of ways to use it. I’ve included guided topics to focus on, but you don’t have to stick to these topics at all. You can cover the ones you don’t like and make your own (use stickers or washi tape for this). You could also just take the format, or what you like from this one, and use it to create your own on another piece of paper.

This vision board template is 8.5″ by 11″ – the perfect size to stick in a binder or your planner, if it’s big enough. In the past, I’ve kept a similar vision board in the back of my planner.

Your vision board does not need to look my vision board . It’s perfectly okay to just write in a few words for each section, or use stickers. You can even cut out pictures from magazines (I do this alllll the time), or use your own photos. The trick is to not let yourself get hung up on how it looks so much as what it says…it should speak to you, and be something you can look back on all year.

The Best Vision Board Ideas for Weight Loss and Vibrant Health

On paper, health and confidence looks like a solid, straightforward plan. But in reality, no matter how much research, calorie-counting, or fitness fads you follow…

Most people end up back where they started.

In my 20 years of working in the health and wellness industry, I’ve noticed why even the most genuine, motivated people can struggle with their weight loss goals – it happens when they focus solely on their physical goals and neglect the emotional – spiritual – and mental elements of healing their body temple.

If you’re in a similar place, you can start making real, lasting progress by tuning in to your mind-body-spirit connection with these vision board ideas for weight  release and body confidence.

What Is A Vision Board And How Will It Help Me Achieve My Weight Loss Journey?

If you’re a spiritual person or have learned about the law of attraction, chances are you’re familiar with vision boards.

A vision board is a collage of pictures, words and symbols that represent the life experiences you want to manifest. Many people call it a goal board, dream board, or even mind map.

weight loss journey board

It helps you envision your health goals such as your goal weight, as well as inspiring you with images of role models, inspirational quotes, and reminders of the positive feelings you want to feel as you create and live into your vision fully.

 Do Vision Boards Actually Work?

Vision boards are a great tool to tune your Mind-Body-Spirit connection to your ideal future-self that’s even more radiant, vibrant, and body-confident!

They will help you manifest your most vibrant, healthy ‘you’ … and not just by the power of visualization alone!

This tool can be instrumental in closing the gap between imagination and action because it serves as a daily conscious reminder of your desires. By transferring your thoughts into a tangible reality, you’ll  be much more  naturally motivated to take the action steps required to make your dreams come true.

Ultimately, a vision board makes it easier for you to stay on track and it can also transform your relationship with your inner critic , especially shifting from feeling disempowered, to feeling more confident and empowered.

How Vision Boards Help You Calm Your Inner Critic

The way we relate to our weight is so much more than a number on the scale, or the physical aspects of our body.

When we rely solely on numbers, or calories in and calories burned, to measure progress, we set ourselves up for self-sabotage in our most sincere efforts to make a positive change.

Our Mind-Body-Spirit Connection takes into account that our weight is an outer reflection of our inner self-image . The subconscious mind works with our negative inner-critic by reinforcing this image – which more often than not, outwardly expresses negative beliefs, such as calling yourself “fat”, or claiming that it’s “too late to change.”

The result? An uphill battle in reaching your ideal weight and wellness goals.

Often, we sabotage our efforts in manifesting our dream bodies because of this constant, internal conflict. Despite our inner critic’s chatter being just background noise, we receive its messages subconsciously… all.the.time.

That’s why an important part of building your vision board is creating space for self-love where you take the time to nourish yourself, your self-confidence, and your self-esteem.

Step-By-Step Process Of Creating Your Ideal Weight and Wellness Vision Board

1) start with a blank canvas.

Most of these vision board ideas for ideal weight and wellness use common items found around the house. You can create one in any size you want – big enough so it covers the entire wall of a room, or small enough where you can see it easily while laying down at night before going to sleep.

The idea here is to have fun and get creative with the things around you!

Basic Steps in Creating Your Own Vision Board

  • If you’re not the most artsy person, you can start with a blank wall . An excellent way to start building your vision board without taking up too much time is by taping or pinning magazine cutouts, photos, printable quotes, or other materials that help you envision the body temple that you desire.
  • Alternatively, your first step may be filling a blank piece of paper or poster board with a collage of pictures like healthy foods, motivational quotes, magazine cutouts of ideal fit healthy bodies, etc. Remember that ultimately, this is an ideal weight and wellness motivation board. As a personal tool, I encourage you to use elements of inspiration that align with your Mind-Body-Spirit connection and your core values.
  • Another great place to start is a cork board . You can pin magazine clippings into a collage that represents your short-term goals, long-term goals, and health/wellness goals as a visualization tool for your ideal weight and health. You can add your favorite quotes as internal motivation and use weight release affirmations as a daily reminder to keep a positive frame of mind.
  • Get creative with scrapbook supplies. Make use of old magazines and newspapers, stickers, photos, glue sticks, and craft scraps. That way you’re recycling/upcycling as you’re vision boarding!

2) Collect Pictures And Words That Inspire

It can be easy to let online toxicity weigh down your progress or distract you from the hard work and “heart work” that you’re putting into your health and wellness journey.

In the course of your daily life, you may encounter someone who says something that speaks to you deeply, either in-person or online. I suggest writing down notes about why they mean so much to you. This is especially powerful in reframing the things we see and experience on social media.

For example: “I love this story because she has taught me to believe in myself again.” Or maybe someone inspires you because he or she reminds you of yourself. Maybe you look up to them because they’ve overcome adversity and continue to succeed despite their struggles.

Whatever the reason, these types of stories inspire us to dream bigger than ever before. They remind us how far we’ve come and where we still need to go. And when we see ourselves reflected back in others, we feel more confident and empowered to reach out and take action towards achieving our dreams.

What Can You Put On Your Vision Board?

Find elements that inspire you. Gather images of things or texts that speak to you such as quotes, photos, paintings, drawings, photographs, poetry, lyrics, artworks, music videos, movies, commercials… anything really.

You can also find images that fit into the following categories that I have identified are necessary to re-wire, empower, strengthen, and empower…

  • Mind, Body, Spirit Connection
  • Movement & Fitness
  • Nutrition, Hydration, & Healthy Eating
  • Fun & Play
  • Love & Support
  • Connection to Nature
  • Rest & Rejuvenation, Vacation Time or Travel
  • Pleasure and Sensuality
  • Self Love & Acceptance
  • Connection to Spirit
  • Community & Friendship
  • Beauty & Self Care
  • Feeling great in your home, having sacred space that is clean and organized ( aka decluttered, research shows clutter and excess weight are connected. So decluttering your space and releasing items you longer want or need, can lead to releasing excess weight.)
  • Confidence, Empowerment, and Aliveness

When you see something that moves you emotionally, or makes you “light up”,  look into who made it. You may find even more material to inspire your vision board.

There’s no right or wrong answer here, just enjoy exploring different types of media. You can even start collecting online content for your physical or digital vision board through apps like Pocket and Instapaper .

Get Inspired By Others’ Success Stories

Many of us know what it feels like to struggle with food and exercise habits.

We also know what it feels like when we finally get motivated enough to change things around. So instead of focusing on your own failures, try looking at success stories of those who have already achieved similar results. These individuals provide hope and encouragement to anyone struggling with creating their ideal weight and wellness goals.

Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are heart-centered and genuinely supportive of the dreams and goals of others. Throughout this journey, your self-esteem will increase as you love yourself more. And the more you love yourself, the more you can give to others.

3) Include Affirmations About Body Acceptance, Self-Care, and Self-Love in Your Vision Board

Self confidence and body acceptance go hand-in-hand.

When you’re gathering inspiration from people around you, remember to approach yourself with patience and compassion. As easy as it is to find motivation by finding what we want for ourselves in others, it can quickly turn to toxic comparison.

Even as a professional dancer, self-love did not come easily to me at first. There were times when I couldn’t help but compare myself not only to others, but to past versions of myself or even to the “self” I was striving to achieve!

By turning the dial down on complaining, comparison, and criticism (what I call the 3 C’s), we learn to recognize when they appear, how to release them, and practice appreciating ourselves in every shape, size, and curve!

In addition, body acceptance is about embracing the uniqueness of your body and the importance of finding inner joy while striving for your own definition of what it means to be healthy. That’s why adding affirmations to your weight and wellness board is an essential piece of manifesting a radiant, vibrant lifestyle!

This is the inspiration behind why I teach my clients to trade the phrase “weight loss” for “weight release”. This is a subtle yet powerful distinction: “release” puts you in control rather than treating weight as a win-loss situation. The healing power within yourself invites celebration of your body, not competition with it!

Begin to implement the words “weight release” and notice how it shifts your perspective. Let this empower your relationship with your body towards deeper love, power, and expression!

You can also embrace practices of self-care such as a favorite skincare routine, bubble bath, massage, or aromatherapy to express gratitude for your body temple.

Above all, make it a habit to create uplifting messages to yourself along your health journey and make time to appreciate, celebrate, and love yourself exactly as you are.

4) Support Your Health Journey With These Ideal Weight and Wellness Vision Board Tips and Ideas

Digital vision board ideas.

A physical vision board is perfect to keep at home, the office, or anywhere that you frequent. But our lives have become increasingly digital, and it can be challenging to constantly update our vision board as we collect inspiration from our daily encounters.

Thing is, most of our screen time ends up feeding our self-critic and contributing to our self-sabotage. Instead of letting it become a distraction, we can use the online space to empower our goal setting with a digital vision board!

A popular, easy way to collect and save pieces of inspiration is through a Pinterest board .

You can find “weight loss  vision board ideas” (or the way I speak to it is “ideal weight and wellness”) all over Pinterest from printable templates and vision board app recommendations to bullet journaling techniques.  Saving pins that you can reflect on when you’re feeling down can be the little motivation you need to get you back into your dream work!
