Zero Confirms New Live Album, ‘Naught Again’, Shares Track Featuring Intro By Robert Hunter [Listen]

Bay Area institution and jam forefathers  Zero  have detailed plans for a new live album,  Naught Again . Available digitally on May 20th via Omnivore Recordings , the 13-track document captures a legendary run of shows at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall  in 1992.

Recorded during Zero’s October 14th–16th, 1992 run at the famed San Francisco venue,  Naught Again  highlights a pivotal juncture in the Steve Kimock / Greg Anton  fronted group. After 12 years of existing as an instrumental ensemble—born from the ashes of  Keith  and  Donna Jean Godchaux ‘s  Heart of Gold Band  who played only one performance days before Keith’s untimely death in 1980—Zero added lyrics to its songs. This run served as the band’s showcase of its new material, with words written by the  Grateful Dead  lyricist  Robert Hunter  and sung by  Judge Murphy .

In addition to the new music,  Naught Again  captures a rotating lineup of luminaries including Martin Fierro on tenor saxophone; Pete Sears on organ, piano, and backup vocals; Nicky Hopkins on piano; Vince Welnick on piano and vocals; and John Kahn , Bobby Vega , plus Liam Hanrahan on bass. In conjunction with the album announcement, Zero shared a live cut of “End of the World Blues”. Before the band starts up, Hunter offers Zero a glowing introduction, telling audiences that the band’s music will be sent into space to communicate with intelligent life forms.

“Zero can put the whammy on the crowd,” Hunter said of the band. “I’ve seen a lot of crowds in my life, but they can do something that I’ve never seen before.”

Naught Again  is newly mixed by  Emmy -nominated  Brian Risner  from the original multi-track tapes recorded by the Dead’s  Dan Healy  and  Don Pearson . Recordings from this run were previously released in 1995 as  Chance In A Million , with  Naught Again  displaying another set. The album is out digitally and 2-CD on May 20th, with the 2-LP edition available on October 14th, one night before the band’s 30th-anniversary show at The Fillmore  in San Francisco.

Zero Announce 2022 Fall Tour Dates

Zero have announced a set of fall tour dates. The Bay Area rockers shared that their run will begin on Oct. 15 with a hometown show at The Fillmore in San Francisco. Then, the band will jump across the country for 12 additional stops. 

After the band’s west coast opener, they’ll stop at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl for a gig on Oct. 27. Next, they’ll make their way to Ardmore, Pa., for an Oct. 28 performance at Ardmore Music Hall. Then, the next evening Zero will pop up at Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pa., before heading to Baltimore for a one-night stand at Baltimore Soundstage on Oct. 30.

Following a few days off the road, Zero will return to the stage on Nov. 2 to perform at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, N.Y. They’ll make their way to Hartford, Conn., the next night for a set at Infinity Hall Hartford. Then, on Nov. 4, the band will play at The Cabot in Beverly, Mass., ahead of a Nov. 5 gig at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth, N.H.

The ensemble will rock at Double E Performance Center in Essex Junction, Vt. on Nov. 5 before taking an extended break. Then, after nearly a month off the road, Zero will return for a three-night stand at George’s Majestic in Fayetteville, Ark., beginning on Dec. 2. 

The latest tour dates come after the band’s brief three-stop Pacific Northwest run, which begins on July 28 at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle, followed by one night at Portland, Ore.’s Aladdin Theatre, and finally a stop at WOW Hall in Eugene, Ore., on July 30. Initially, the three-stop tour was slated for February but ultimately postponed until the July due to a winter spike in COVID-19 cases.

SHINEDOWN Announces Dates For The ‘Planet Zero’ World Tour

Ahead of the April 22 release of their new album Planet Zero , multi-platinum band Shinedown have announced the Planet Zero World Tour (produced by Live Nation), with special guests Jelly Roll and John Harvie , and have also released “The Saints of Violence and Innuendo,” a brand-new song from the forthcoming album.

The Planet Zero World Tour begins in Bonner Springs, KS on September 3 rd , kicking off a 20-date U.S. run of fall shows that will see the record-breaking, chart-topping band bring their new music, #1 hits, fan favorites and biggest stage show yet to cities from coast to coast in support of Planet Zero . Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.
