Admire the iconic Great Wall of China
Feel the enormity of China's Great Wall, stretching as far as the eye can see through luscious green valleys. Wander through Angkor Wat
Take a journey to the world's largest religious monument and watch the sunrise onto the stillness of the Angkor Wat temple complex. The crumbling mosey portions of the Hindu turned Buddhist structures hold an eerie beauty that will stir you to the very core.
Enjoy some quality 'Me' time in Thailand
Land of smiles, cheap cocktails and expert massages, a trip to Thailand is a chance to unwind. Spend days floating in the Gulf of Thailand and roaming through shopping markets, interrupted only by fragrant Panang curries and fresh coconuts to cool you down.
Sail Halong Bay
Climb aboard a traditional wooden boat and take in the beauty of Vietnam's sea of limestone islands. The dramatic setting of Halong Bay will dazzle as you drift slowly around the emerald waters past many families that call the water home. An essential part of Asia travel packages, it has been named one of the new natural wonders of the world.

With construction finishing in the year 1420, this site holds limitless cultural significance.
Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum
Pay tribute to the victims of Cambodia's brutal genocide that saw a quarter of its population lost in the early 1970's. The photos of those lost haunt the walls of Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, housed in a building that was once a center for prison and interrogation.
Tokyo National Museum
Take an artistic journey along the Silk Road to ancient and medieval days gone by at Tokyo National Museum, the 6th largest art museum in the world. Hosting many of Japan's national treasures and religious artworks with immense cultural significance, allow a whole day to soak up all this monument has to offer.

A tapestry of history, art and modern culture are found peppered across this continent in its endless list of museums. These are just some of the places we'll visit on our Asia escorted tours.
With almost a thousand years of history held in a roll of seaweed, rice and raw fish, don't miss this important part of Japanese culture. Though it's now readily available in most parts of the world, you will find something special about the sushi experience in its homeland.
Pho has traveled a long way since it originated in the Nam Định province of Vietnam. Slurp down many bowls from lively street vendors and modern cafes, enjoying variations of the hot rice noodle broth covered in herbs. The country of Vietnam summed up in one soupy dish.
Peking Duck
Taste the Imperial era in slices of seasoned crispy skin duck. Best wrapped in thin pancakes with hoisin sauce and greens, this Chinese specialty is delicious whether consumed in a busy street market or upmarket restaurant.
Best food in Asia
It's hard to compete with the delicious fragrant dishes that originate across the expanses of Asia. With chopsticks in hand, we'll uncover the very best and learn of the many rituals and traditions woven into this continent's culinary banquet.
What to pack for Asia
Charcoal tablets
Many visit Asia armed with a pharmacy of pills for the chance of illness. Prevention is always better than cure; take a natural daily supplement such as charcoal to ensure nasties are evacuated from your system as quickly as possible.
Cool full-length clothes
Many parts of Asia boast a sunny tropical climate that's perfect for days flopped by a pool or sea. When exploring, it can be somewhat uncomfortable. Pack light, full-length clothes so you can respectfully visit religious sites without sweltering.
Hand sanitizer
During your time in Asia, you might not always have access to soap and water to wash up before eating. Keep hand sanitizer available for clean hands and a happy stomach.
Insect Repellent
A bug spray will be your best protection against mosquitos and any other creepy crawlies that call Asia home. Pack a bottle to avoid unnecessary itch or illness.
Water purification devices
The purification of water has come a long way in recent years. Make your way to a specialist travel shop to discuss bottles, gadgets and tablets that will ensure you stay hydrated without falling ill.

Asia Tour Reviews

Asia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips
It can often seem difficult to know where to start when considering holidays in Asia. Don’t let the gigantic size of Asia intimidate you. With enough research and some careful planning, you can see the best that Asia has to offer. Take part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, conquer the Great Wall of China , bask in the glory of the Taj Mahal or wander through the bright lights during a night out in Bangkok .
Travel Highlights
- Skip the souvenir shops and peruse some of the largest markets in the world. From street food to artisanal goods, Asia’s markets have it all like the Chatuchak market in Bangkok , which is one of the world’s largest weekend markets or the Sukawati art market in Bali . Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo offers some of the freshest sushi you’ll ever taste.
- Explore your spirituality by practising yoga and meditation in Varanasi along the Ganges river or visit a Buddhist monastery in Tibet.
- Stroll through the rice terraces of blissful Bali .
- Explore Northern Thailand, Central Laos or Northern Vietnam on two wheelers with the wind in your hair.
- Get glitzy in Almaty , Kazakhstan’s bustling bars, sophisticated shopping malls and mesmerising museums.
- Experience an interesting mix of Catholic and indigenous tradition during the Philippines biggest mardis gras: Ati-Atihan festival in Kalibo which takes place on Shrove Tuesday of the Christian calendar.
- Embark on one of the longest train journeys in the world: the Trans-Asian Railway through China , Korea, Mongolia , Russia and Kazakhstan .
Travel Tips
- Whatever your mode of transport - whether it’s a tuk tuk or a taxi - always ask a local how much it should be beforehand and agree on a price before you take the ride.
- Manners matter. In Thailand, food is often served with a fork and a spoon. The fork is only used to place food on the spoon and it is often seen as rude to put the fork in your mouth.
- Always keep toilet paper or tissues with you, and hand sanitizer.
- Perfect planning is never possible, and having some gaps in your schedule means you can take locals up on their superior suggestions for a day sightseeing.
- While most countries in Asia use different currencies, having some spare USD will always be helpful. Some accommodations will charge in USD, for example.
- A bout of stomach flu is normal for first time travellers in Asia. Stick to busy restaurants or food stalls where the locals go and you’ll be fine.
- Watch what you wear. Most cultures are very accepting of visitors and their unusual get-up. But being respectful of the local culture will go a long way. In India, for example, covering arms and legs will be appreciated, and removing shoes before entering someone’s home will make you a few extra friends.
Tours in Asia - Questions and Answers
Asia is a relatively large continent, so there are a wide variety of destinations to explore. Therefore, if you are planning a multi-country trip to Asia , the first thing you need to prepare is the list of countries you are interested in along with your starting and ending points. You would also need to decide on the best time for your trip depending on seasonal variations that affect each country.
After finalizing when and where to travel in Asia, you should make arrangements for all the necessary travel documents. These would include visas, insurances, Covid-19 test reports, vaccine cards, and so on.
Asia has more than enough destinations to meet every traveler’s needs and desires. If you are into adventure, look no further than the mighty Himalayas. Go on an exhilarating hike to the base camp of Mount Everest , the tallest mountain in the world, or head for the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh instead. Thailand, with its blend of dazzling nightlife, rich history, and striking monuments, is the perfect destination not just for those who wish to let their hair down but also for travelers looking forward to being part of a memorable cultural experience.
Go on a tour to Cambodia , home to the monumental Angkor Wat, if you are into off-the-beaten-path destinations, or choose a Japan tour if you wish to discover how traditions and modernity can be seamlessly blended. The Maldives, with its numerous islands and beaches, is sure to provide you with countless opportunities to kick back on sandy stretches, swim in turquoise waters, and go island-hopping, while the rainforests of Malaysia and Indonesia are a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.
There are several factors that determine the amount of money you will spend during your Asia tour. These include the countries you wish to visit, the length of your trip, the type of tour you have chosen (group, private, luxury and budget) as well as other expenses like insurance, visas, and transportation.
Laos is probably the cheapest destination in Asia, with an average daily expense of USD 23 per person. India is yet another budget-friendly destination in the region when it comes to foreigners. Expect to spend between USD 35 to USD 40 per person, per day if you are a mid-range traveler. The average daily expense in Cambodia is slightly higher, at USD 50 per person. Japan and Singapore, on the other hand, are some of the most expensive destinations on the planet. On average, travelers should expect to shell out USD 130 dollars per person, per day while in these countries.
English is a widely spoken language in Asia, which means that you would not have much difficulty conversing with locals during your trip. Singapore ranks the highest in terms of its proficiency in the English language. The Philippines comes second, followed by Malaysia. Other countries where you will not face much trouble if you can speak English are South Korea, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
You will find that English is part of life of a section of the population in all these countries. They have road signs in English (along with those in their native languages) as well as English newspapers. Public announcements are often translated into English in these countries, and it is not difficult to come across store banners and product labels written in the language. In addition to all this, locals are also accustomed to tourists, which means they can at least carry out basic conversations in the language.
However, please keep in mind that it is the urban population in the continent that has had the most exposure to the language and is better at communicating in it. The more you travel to the countryside, the fewer English speakers you will meet.
A seven-day Asia trip can give you a taste of the general highlights of two countries at most. Go for destinations in the same region, like Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, if you are planning a week-long vacation to save time. A two-week trip gives you the opportunity to carry out an in-depth exploration of three countries. If you want to cast your net further and cover more ground, then a month-long sojourn would be ideal. This duration is enough to cover everything from the futuristic Tokyo to the backwaters of Kerala and the vast, arid landscapes of Kazakhstan.
Ideally, we suggest that you spend around three weeks in the continent if you wish to get under the skin of its cultures and people.
Depending on the region you wish to cover, you can carry out an Asia tour at any time of year.
Countries like Cambodia and Sri Lanka experience warm and sunny weather between January and March, making them perfect for beach stays and island hopping. From April to August, Thailand and Vietnam are the best places to visit as both these countries experience balmy tropical weather accompanied by a gentle sea breeze.
The period between September and December, on the other hand, marks the transition from monsoon to winter in many Asian countries. Therefore, this would be the best time to engage in activities like trekking in Nepal or sightseeing in India.
Asia does not lack destinations that are pleasing to the eye. Consequently, it is hard to determine which country is the prettiest. If you are into island getaways, the stunning blue waters and picturesque sandy beaches of the Maldives are sure to impress you. The Himalayan region of India, Nepal, and Bhutan will definitely take your breath away with its expansive scenery of towering cliffs that include some of the highest mountains in the world. Culture vultures will have a field day in historic locations throughout the Indian subcontinent as well as Southeast Asia, while Japan impresses tech geeks with its futuristic, neon-drenched cities.

Asia Vacation Packages & Tours
Vacations to asia.
Asia is a continent so large and diverse it is almost impossible to describe its overall characteristics. As planet earth’s largest continent it covers an impressive 30% of the world's total land area and is home to an amazing 60% of the world’s population. A vacation to Asia is the ultimate journey through cultures, traditions, landscapes and histories, with a vast array of countries each with their own unique atmospheres and cultural offerings. With boundaries on the Pacific, the Arctic and Indian Oceans , Asia is separated from Europe by the Turkish Straits, Ural and Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea, and from Africa by the Suez Canal. Due to its sheer magnitude and diversity, Asia is more often used as a geographical term than as a description of a homogenous continent with countries as contrasting as Jordan and Indonesia or China and India each belonging to this vast landmass.
The continent is split into six regions: Central Asia, East Asia, the Middle East, Russia & the Caucasus, South Asia and Southeast Asia. Historically, it is the birthplaces of some of the world’s first civilisations, such as the civilisation of the Indus Valley , therefore the continent has some of the richest history imaginable, as seen in the plentiful ancient sites such as the temples of Bagan in Myanmar and the ancient capital of Ayutthaya in Thailand or the Ajanta Caves of India. Travellers have been increasingly drawn to embarking on tours to Asia thanks to the diversity and ease of travel between countries on the epic landmass, making multi-centre vacations in Asia a perfect choice for intrepid explorers.
Highlights of Asia
Being such an immense continent, Asia is proudly home to a plethora of must-see sites, natural wonders and cultural attractions. The world’s highest mountain, the iconic Mount Everest , located on the border between Tibet and Nepal can be found here, as well as the world’s lowest point, in the Dead Sea of Jordan and Israel. Asia’s largest river, the Yangtze runs through China and is a popular destination for river cruises. The continent’s size ensures a variety of climatic zones, from the dusty deserts of Rajasthan in India to snow-capped Mount Fuji in Japan and the idyllic tropical beaches of Thailand, each producing their own unique natural wonders.
Of course, the number of both historical and natural points of interest in the continent is dizzying and includes iconic spectacles such as the Taj Mahal in India, the ancient Angkor Wat Temples of Cambodia , the phenomenal Great Wall of China, the mysterious Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol in the Philippines , the jungles of Borneo, famously home to orangutans, tranquil Halong Bay in Vietnam and the paradise Atolls of the Maldives. Many of Asia’s top attractions have been recognised as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and travellers on a package tour to Asia are often focused on ticking these monumental destinations off of their bucket lists.
What to expect in Asia
As the birthplace of many of the worlds largest religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Taoism , Asia boasts a multitude of spiritual monuments and places of pilgrimage. From the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Sri Lanka to the sacred ghats and River Ganges in Varanasi, India and the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Japan, this continent is a paradise of sacred sites and monuments. You can expect to be charmed by the dedication of the monks of Luang Prabang in Myanmar as they collect their alms at dawn, and captivated by the majesty of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Enormous super-cities are another hallmark of this continent, with fast-paced and colourful Bangkok in Thailand crowned the most-visited city in the world. Other megacities on the continent include Delhi, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Manila. Outside of the cities, nature abounds and Asia is home to amazingly diverse wildlife. Nature lovers on a trip to Asia can discover endangered pandas in a few select mountain ranges in China, the elusive Bengal tigers in India’s Ranthambore National Park, Sri Lanka’s wild elephants and the Komodo dragons of Indonesia. With such diverse wildlife, geography and climate, it is unsurprising that Asian cuisine is among the most varied in the world and boasts a plethora of delicious flavours and delicacies, each unique to their particular countries and regions. From the mouth-watering dim-sum dumplings of China to the flavoursome curries of India and delightful steaming bowls of pho in Vietnam , a tour of Asia is a journey for the tastebuds as well as the rest of the senses.
The variety of experiences on the continent is inconceivable and a trip to Asia is sure to excite even the most intrepid traveller with its changing scenery, exquisite historical monuments and cultural variety. Asia is a continent so diverse that it can be considered a world within itself.

Asia Tours & Travel Guide
Asia Attractions & Landmarks Guide
By far the world’s largest continent, Asia is as diverse as it is large. China, Siberia, Nepal and Jordan are all parts of Asia, as are Sri Lanka, Iran, Mongolia and Dubai. So a trip to Asia can encompass many regions, cultures, religions – and decisions.
Given its size and breadth, taking a guided tour can be an efficient way to experience a taste of Asia. From Indonesia to India to Israel, Asia is varied, intriguing, and endlessly fascinating - it's difficult to know where to start.
Countries are in Asia
Asia is the largest continent on earth covering 30% of the world’s land. Asia is also home to 60% of humankind. The Asian continent stretches all the way from Japan in the east to Israel in the west, Indonesia in the south to Russia in the north. It includes every type of landscape and all levels of climate. However, grouping together parts of Asia can help keep it straight.
Asia is generally broken down into five different regions : Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Western Asia. Central Asia includes the countries around Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan; East Asia includes the countries near China and Korea, South Asia is the Indian Subcontinent and Afghanistan, Southeast Asia includes the tropical countries near Thailand and Indonesia, and Western Asia is Turkey and the region of the Middle East .
When looking for a tour to Asia, figuring out which region you want to visit should be your first option as traveling between regions of Asia can take a great deal of time and money.
Southeast Asia Tours
Likely the region of Asia that most people think of when they start looking for tours is Southeast Asia. With countries including Thailand , Indonesia , Malaysia , Vietnam , and Cambodia , this is one region that attracts all.
Southeast Asia itineraries are full of stunning landscapes, historic temples, bustling cities, and laid back beaches. In each of these countries you will be able to find a wide variety of activities to enjoy like shopping through the floating markets of Vietnam, walking the hallowed temples of Angkor Wat , or enjoying a smoothie bowl in Bali.
While visiting Southeast Asia can be a nice reprieve from the harsh winters of Europe and North America, make sure to visit when the weather is good. Southeast Asia can get extremely warm and most of the countries have monsoon seasons that you’ll want to avoid
Top Cities in Asia
Each city in Asia is extremely different and has its own flavor to it. Cities in Saudi Arabia and Turkey are very different than cities in Vietnam and the Philippines. But these major hubs are often included on Asian guided tours in their own regions.
1. Bangkok, Thailand
Considered one of the hubs for not only Southeast Asia but all of Asia, Bangkok is a wondrous combination of traditional Thai history, Asian culture, and modern life. Bangkok is steeped in royal Thai architecture with modern malls and business hubs and is a backpacker hub.
2. Moscow, Russia
Heading to the far northern part of Asia, Moscow stands as a reminder of Imperial Russia’s former power. With its central Red Square with the Kremlin and uniquely designed St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow is a time capsule of Communist and Imperial rule.
3. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Like many cities in Asia, Dubai originally was a small settlement and now has become a major business hub. Centered in the oil region of Asia, Dubai has grown to be an outpost for many of the world’s top companies, hotel chains, and high end products.
4. Udaipur, India
“India’s Venice” is one of the jewels of India’s northern region of Rajasthan with its combination of India life and European feel. While this region is known for its stunning forts and architecture, Udaipur stands out with its white buildings and canals centered around Lake Pichola.
Outdoor Travel in Asia
Asia’s landscape ranges from quite river valleys in Vietnam to the towering Himalayan Mountains in Nepal. Asia is one of the best places to get out and see Mother Nature at her finest.
For those looking for an adventurous holiday, there are many hiking and trekking tours to Asia . Nepal and Bhutan have some of the best outdoor and rigorous treks you can imagine and Japan is known for cycling as well.
Even if you aren’t going on full hiking or trekking adventures in Asia, your tour may still be considered strenuous. Many Asian countries are mountainous and some of the best sites, like the Great Wall of China, are built over the mountains and the steps are very steep. When looking into Asia tour operators double check the physical level and itinerary.
If you are looking for a more relaxed outdoor experience, you can check out Asian river cruises as they will take you into parts of Asia that are less developed and more connected with nature.
While there are some wildlife tours in Asia , much of the animals in Asia you will be able to see on normal tours. The most common animal you will see when traveling Asia, especially South and Southeast Asia, will be monkeys. Additionally, there are Asia wildlife tours to countries like Borneo that include trekking and encountering wildlife like orangutans.
Asia Cuisine
You can find any type of cuisine in Asia. With so many countries and different vegetation, Asia has a wide variety of food to choose from. This being said, Asia’s cuisine is tied to the different regions and countries. There are many similarities between some cuisines, but the produce and food is determined by the country.
In Central Asia you will find heartier dishes with meat and dairy. Much of this area has a similar cuisine to Russia with stews, stuffed breads, and Arabian flavors.
In Western Asia you’ll find a combination of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors as many of these countries sit on the Mediterranean Sea . Tahini, falafel, lamb, and hummus are commonly found in dishes in this region. This area of Asia is also based off of meze, or small dish meals.
South Asia has a large vegetarian feel as India and Sri Lanka are mostly Hindu and Hindus do not eat meat. However, cuisines of Nepal and Afghanistan use lamb and goat. Recipes of this region use strong chillies, coriander, cloves, and ghee in their dishes. Also, many of their meals are eaten with forks and spoons, but with roti or chapati (unleaved flatbread).
Southeast Asia is where you will find many of your curries, rice dishes, and fresh fruit. This area of Asia is often associated with East Asian cuisines, but has its own distinct flavor. These cuisines use soy sauces and spices of turmeric and lemon grass.
Eastern Asia dishes are based off of oils and soups along with noodles and rice. Fish sauce, fermented vegetables, dumplings, and sushi can all be found in dishes in East Asia.
River Cruises in Asia
A great option to see Southeast Asia, but the other Asian countries as well, is by river cruise. Many of the world's most famous rivers run through Asia including the Mekong and the Yangtze.
Mekong River cruises make their way through multiple countries in Southeast Asia. The river winds itself through Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Mekong River itineraries make sure to include stops of major sites on the river like Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City, while also taking you out into the backwaters of the Mekong River.
To see some of the best sites in China, a Yangtze River cruise is ideal. A Yangtze River cruise takes you through the famous Three Gorges where three large gorges converge on the river with stops at “The White Emperor City” and “The Ghost City.”
For travelers with disabilities or who have trouble getting around, note that Asian river cruises use smaller boats and dock at ports that are not at the same standards as European river cruises.
The Ancient Silk Route
Much of Russia – from the Ural Mountains to eastern Siberia – lies in Asia, as does Mongolia, land of yurts and horsemen. Central Asia is a vast expanse of “stans”: Uzbekistan’s Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent were pillars along the old nomadic Silk Route from China. The ancient Babylonian and Persian empires live on in modern-day Iraq and Iran – an option for adventurous travelers. Parts of the Middle East are also troubled, though the United Arab Emirates – with its star attraction, Dubai -- and some other areas of the exotic Arabian Peninsula still beckon (even Saudi Arabia is starting to open up to non-Islamic tourism).
Israel and Jordan are at peace, offering the opportunity to visit both ancient Jerusalem and nearby Petra, Jordan’s wondrous rock city. Much of Turkey lies in Asia as well – including the unique cave dwellings of Cappadocia and the beaches of the Turkish Riviera.
While a quick overview can barely scratch the surface of Asian travel, Stride can ease the confusion with our easy-to-use comparison tools. After sizing up our plentiful offerings of guided tours, river cruises and active vacation packages, you can then decide which Asian region is the best fit for you. And chances are you’ll want to return again and again to sample more of all the cultural and adventurous discoveries that Asia has in store.
Cultural Nuances in Asia
For travelers coming from North America or Europe, some culture shock may be experiences when traveling in Asia. The culture and way of life in many Asian countries are very different than in places like the U.S. Different values and traditions are followed in Asia that may not be as important or observed in other countries.
Honor and respect are extremely important in Asian cultures. “Saving face” or respecting someone is one of the most important things in Asia. Open confrontation, criticism, or disprecting elders are highly frowned upon. However, in certain countries like China, conversations about your income and family life are fair game as these topics are valued in Chinese culture.
Even if you are from New York or London, you will still feel like you are cramped in many Asian countries. With 60% of the world’s population in Asia, many of the major cities are overcrowded and you will not have personal space when visiting. Along with this, if you accidentally get bumped getting off your bus or train, don’t expect an apology as you may get in the U.S., personal space and accidental bumpings are just part of life in Asia.

Each country had its highlights - too many to mention, but all a delightful experience. Every accommodation was top class, with beautiful rooms, meals were also top quality. I would highly recommend this tour & company. Thanks for the beautiful memories. Cheryl Craig, Australia

Cambodia Adventure
This trip was not what I expected - it was SO much MORE!! I was nervous travelling to a non-english speaking country, as a female, with a teenage daughter in tow, but it has become one of the BEST experiences of my entire life!! The trip was well organised and planned, our tour leader Mony was amazing - he shared his culture and knowledge with us, and was approachable. We met amazing people and created great friendships, while we experienced the true culture and people of Cambodia. There is a lot of travel, but the transport was safe and comfortable, and even with the long hours of travel there were plenty of stops and opportunities to experience and interact with locals, and still time to explore/do activities when we reached our destinations. Use the travel time to get to know the other members of your group better, or watch the world go by - there is plenty to look at! The hotels/guesthouses were mostly what we expected for the price we paid, but some were better! Can't wait for our next trip!!
Endless Beauty of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand - 19 Days
The communication and respect provided by Legend Tours was exceptional. I ask a lot of questions. I received timely responses every time. I made changes 3 times to my itinerary and each time was seamless, and without judgement. Eventually, I had to switch companies due to adding another country Legend doesn’t cover. Again, I was treated with the utmost respect. I plan to to use Legend Tour in the future because of the stellar customer service!
Bali Intro 12 Day
It was overall just incredible! All the trips were amazing, the people were great, my leader Hendri was awesome!! He just knew so much and helped with everything we needed
Bali Experience
Andre was great! He was a bundle of positive energy and really got the group hyped up for activities. He went out of his way to make sure that we were safe coming back home from nights out and always have us information about the local area. He was also really chill which helped when times were slightly stressful. Thanks Andre
What people love about South East Asia Tours
The tour was perfectly organized from the first till the last day. The program was very well balanced, everyday was different from the other. All tour guides did a great job showing us the different places at each location. Overhaul it was a great journey and experience. We can definetly recommend the tour and also the service of realistic Asia.
This was my first time ever travelling without family and it was amazing! One of the best months of my life. Our CEO Tong was brilliant and full of knowledge about where we were going and what we would be doing. He made sure to have enough time for anyone and helped in anyway he could to make things run smoothly for everyone on tour including myself. If you go on this tour, make sure you ask for Tong or (Phanet Tep) as your CEO!

These 12 Wrinkle-free Travel Clothes Will Be the M.V.P.s of Your Suitcase — and They’re Starting at $23
They pack like a dream.

Travel + Leisure
I’m one of those people who can’t leave the house in good conscience with wrinkles all over my outfit. But it’s hard to avoid when you travel. I’ve tried every method — rolling things up Marie Kondo-style, laying each item flat and piling it, using packing cubes — but wrinkles are just a reality of the jet-set lifestyle. Sure, I could bring a travel steamer or mini iron, but there's not always room for one in my carry-on. Or, I could curate a wardrobe packed with wrinkle-resistant tops, bottoms, and one-pieces . That way I can skip the part where I have the ironing board set up and my travel companions are impatiently scrolling through their phones because they’re inevitably ready before me.
Some clothes are specially constructed to be wrinkle-resistant, and you’ll find that in the product messaging. But other times, you just have to look at the materials on the label. Some fabrics, like linen and cotton, though great for the warmer weather, are notorious for wrinkling at the drop of a hat. Others have the natural ability to resist and repel wrinkles. These fabrics include (but are not limited to) Supima cotton, lyocell (brand-name Tencel), an eco-friendly acetate called triacetate, charmeuse, and certain types of polyester. Luckily, a lot of your favorite brands are already on board with the convenience of wrinkle-free clothes. Among them are Athleta, Everlane, Madewell and Summersault. And of course, you can dig around Amazon and find your fair share of wrinkle-resistant clothes that travel well, too.
Below, I've rounded up 12 of my favorites, from tanks and polos to rompers and cover-ups. Bonus points for the pieces that include other travel-friendly features, like UPF protection and moisture-wicking fabrics. Bottom line: packing these pieces will make your trip go a lot smoother. Your travel buddies can thank me later.
Timeson Three-quarter-sleeve Blouse
A crisp white blouse is a travel M.V.P., but it’s usually made of quick-to-wrinkle cotton. Not this sheer Timeson blouse from Amazon, though. It’s got wrinkle-resistant polyester (with a touch of stretchy spandex) and has a more relaxed silhouette than a traditional Oxford shirt with its tunic-style design. My white blouses are in constant rotation when I travel because they’re so versatile, and this one is unique in that its precise length allows it to look great tucked in or left loose. Plus, it pairs nicely even with yoga pants. Take it from this shopper : “I packed this blouse in a suitcase for a trip and it didn't wrinkle."
PrettyGarden Midi Summer Dress
Twirl your way through the vineyards in this pretty poplin PrettyGarden dress made with wrinkle-resistant polyester. Its pleated skirt, ruffled hem, and keyhole front make it fun and flirty for any warm-weather destination. And, you can dress it up or down depending on your accessories, so wear it straight out of your suitcase for whatever's next on your itinerary. According to one Amazon customer , it “washes well, never wrinkles" and is "very classy and feminine."
Babaton New Power Blazer
This long, versatile blazer by Aritzia-favorite brand Babaton is my go-to for travel and the perfect layer to help any outfit transition from day to night. I’ve worn it to elevate a white-tee-and-jeans look and over a bodycon dress for a bit more modesty. Its open front, collarless design and ruched, three-quarter sleeves keep it looking chic instead of stuffy, and the fabric is made of eco-friendly triacetate with a touch of polyester — which is the reason why I can literally ball it up in my suitcase and it will never wrinkle.
Summersalt The Silky Luxe Beach to Brunch Wrap Skirt
With Summersalt's Beach to Brunch Wrap Skirt, You can pack up your beach bag with all of the essentials and not have to worry about your swimsuit cover-up getting smushed by your towel, books, snacks, and sunscreen. It's made with silky charmeuse fabric and is specifically designed to resist wrinkles. As the name implies, this skirt can be worn as part of your post-beach outfit thanks to its stunning print, stylish details, and maxi skirt length that provides the right amount of coverage for a restaurant or walk around the city.
Amazon Essentials Lightweight Open-front Cardigan
I’m so glad cardigans are on-trend again because they truly come in handy when I visit places that are hot during the day and chilly at night (Mexico City and Lisbon, I’m talking to you). Roll up this lightweight, best-selling Amazon Essentials cardigan and pop it in your tote without worry because it’s got modal and polyester mixed in, so it won’t look crumpled when you pull it out at night. A reviewer confirmed that it's “wrinkle-resistant and packs well,” and you have your choice of 20 colors and prints to help it maximize your travel wardrobe.
REI Co-op Sahara Bermuda Shorts
Outdoor activities in warmer temps call for shorts that are comfy and rugged, and this pair by REI Co-op is the brand’s answer for Bermuda shorts fans. Not only are these water-repellent, stretchy, and outfitted with UPF sun protection, but they’re also wrinkle-resistant thanks to their resilient nylon construction. I’m not even a regular hiker, but there seems to be a spontaneous hike on almost every extended trip that I take, so this pair is going in my cart for summer.
Madewell Pull-on Wide-leg Pants in Softdrape
Another great fabric option for the wrinkle-free travel life is lyocell — also known by its brand-name Tencel — a sustainable type of rayon that’s known for being super soft, durable, and breathable. That’s what Madewell’s Softdrape fabric is made up of, making its elastic-waist Wide-leg Pants the perfect pair for all-day wear. They can be dressed up or down and paired with anything from a T-shirt or tank to a button-down blouse or bodysuit. According to one reviewer, "They're so comfortable, flattering and stylish. The material is super lightweight and flowy. They'd be flattering on any body type."
Lands’ End Moisture-wicking UPF Sun Curved Hem Tunic Tank Top
Land's End
A soft polyester blend fabric is responsible for making sure that this performance tank top won’t wrinkle, and its UPF 50 sun protection helps shield you from UV rays on long walks and hikes. The ribbed top also wicks away sweat and resists odors, comes in eight cute colors, and pairs perfectly with leggings and shorts. I wore a top just like this to go off-roading in a military tank in the Czech Republic, and wish that I had it for my jeep tour of Sintra, Portugal. It also would have come in handy during my Kenyan safari. Moral of the story? Your travels will often present you with hot-weather, open-sun activities, so you’ll never regret packing a top that does as much as this one does. Use the code " FAVORITES " to get select colors on sale for as little as $23.
Athleta Essential Tee Dress
You’ll always find an occasion to wear this T-shirt dress from Athleta, a brand that masters the intersection between stylish and high-performing activewear and travel clothes. The dress has a playful, flowy shape constructed of breathable, wrinkle-resistant Supima cotton and comes in four colors, including classic gray and black (plus bold hues like orchid pink and rosewood red). The dress makes getting ready a breeze, too — just put it on and pair it with sandals or sneakers, and you’re good to go. One customer wrote, ”I took to Hawaii for spring break… [it was a] comfortable, cute, easy-to-pack, pretty dress."
Basudam Golf Polo Shirt
If a round of tennis, pickleball, or golf is on the agenda, this wrinkle-free polyester polo shirt should be in your suitcase. Its modified V-neck collar gives it a visual twist to make it more fashionable than your average polo. It’s also moisture-wicking and stretchy enough to handle a day filled with sports, but polished enough to keep you looking put together for post-game drinks or grub. “Female golfer here," an Amazon shopper began their review. "This shirt will be my go-to and I plan on buying every color. It's lightweight, super cute, and comfortable."
Everlane The Supima High-neck Riviera Dress
The importance of a comfy midi or maxi dress that doesn’t cling can’t be overstated. I’ve had at least one in my luggage since I became a travel writer, and this High-neck Riviera Dress from Everlane that's made with wrinkle-resistant Supima cotton fits the bill beautifully. It’s the perfect style to pair with Birkenstocks or with your favorite pair of white, all-day walking sneakers. “I am not usually a huge dress girl, but I will definitely be wearing this for spring and upcoming summer months, too," an Everlane shopper raved, adding that they "have already paired it with a jean jacket and black slides."
Athleta Brooklyn Utility Romper
Another wardrobe essential that I’d never travel without is a romper or jumpsuit, as one-pieces just make an easy no-brainer for getting dressed and looking put together fast. They also cinch my waist and skim my figure in a way that leaves me feeling confident and securely covered to handle whatever's on my itinerary for the day. Athleta’s Brooklyn Utility Romper takes it the extra mile by being wrinkle-free, too. Plus, it has UPF-protective fabric and resists snags and rips. According to one reviewer, it's “lightweight and simple" and you can "dress it up with a jacket or just go sleeveless."

Blinken begins key China visit as tensions rise over new US foreign aid bill

SHANGHAI (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has begun a critical trip to China armed with a strengthened diplomatic hand following Senate approval of a foreign aid package that will provide billions of dollars in assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan as well as force TikTok’s China-based parent company to sell the social media platform -– all areas of contention between Washington and Beijing.
Blinken arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday just hours after the Senate vote on the long-stalled legislation and shortly before President Joe Biden is expected to sign it into law to demonstrate U.S. resolve in defending its allies and partners. Passage of the bill will add further complications to an already complex relationship that has been strained by disagreements over numerous global and regional disputes.
Still, the fact that Blinken is making the trip — shortly after a conversation between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, a similar visit to China by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and a call between the U.S. and Chinese defense chiefs — is a sign the two sides are at least willing to discuss their differences.
Of primary interest to China, the bill sets aside $8 billion to counter Chinese threats in Taiwan and the broader Indo-Pacific and gives China’s ByteDance nine months to sell TikTok with a possible three-month extension if a sale is in progress. China has railed against U.S. assistance to Taiwan, which it regards as a renegade province, and immediately condemned the move as a dangerous provocation. It also strongly opposes efforts to force TikTok’s sale.
The bill also allots $26 billion in wartime assistance to Israel and humanitarian relief to Palestinians in Gaza, and $61 billion for Ukraine to defend itself from Russia’s invasion. The Biden administration has been disappointed in China’s response to the war in Gaza and has complained loudly that Chinese support for Russia’s military-industrial sector has allowed Moscow to subvert Western sanctions and ramp up attacks on Ukraine.
Even before Blinken landed in Shanghai — where he will have meetings on Thursday before traveling to Beijing — China’s Taiwan Affairs Office slammed the assistance to Taipei, saying it “seriously violates” U.S. commitments to China, “sends a wrong signal to the Taiwan independence separatist forces” and pushes the self-governing island republic into a “dangerous situation.”
China and the United States are the major players in the Indo-Pacific and Washington has become increasingly alarmed by Beijing’s growing aggressiveness in recent years toward Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries with which it has significant territorial and maritime disputes in the South China Sea .
The U.S. has strongly condemned Chinese military exercises threatening Taiwan, which Beijing regards as a renegade province and has vowed to reunify with the mainland by force if necessary. Successive U.S. administrations have steadily boosted military support and sales for Taiwan, much to Chinese anger.
A senior State Department official said last week that Blinken would “underscore, both in private and public, America’s abiding interest in maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. We think that is vitally important for the region and the world.”
In the South China Sea, the U.S. and others have become increasingly concerned by provocative Chinese actions in and around disputed areas.
In particular, the U.S. has voiced objections to what it says are Chinese attempts to thwart legitimate maritime activities by others in the sea, notably the Philippines and Vietnam. That was a major topic of concern this month when Biden held a three-way summit with the prime minister of Japan and the president of the Philippines.
On Ukraine, which U.S. officials say will be a primary topic of conversation during Blinken’s visit, the Biden administration said that Chinese support has allowed Russia to largely reconstitute its defense industrial base, affecting not only the war in Ukraine but posing a threat to broader European security.
“If China purports on the one hand to want good relations with Europe and other countries, it can’t on the other hand be fueling what is the biggest threat to European security since the end of the Cold War,” Blinken said last week.
China says it has the right to trade with Russia and accuses the U.S. of fanning the flames by arming and funding Ukraine. “It is extremely hypocritical and irresponsible for the U.S. to introduce a large-scale aid bill for Ukraine while making groundless accusations against normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Russia,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Tuesday.
On the Middle East, U.S. officials, from Biden on down, have repeatedly appealed to China to use any leverage it may have with Iran to prevent Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza from spiraling into a wider regional conflict.
While China appears to have been generally receptive to such calls — particularly because it depends heavily on oil imports from Iran and other Mideast nations — tensions have steadily increased since the beginning of the Gaza war in October and more recent direct strikes and counterstrikes between Israel and Iran.
Blinken has pushed for China to take a more active stance in pressing Iran not to escalate tensions in the Middle East . He has spoken to his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, several times urging China to tell Iran to restrain the proxy groups it has supported in the region, including Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Yemen’s Houthis and Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Syria.
The senior State Department official said Blinken would reiterate the U.S. interest in China using “whatever channels or influence it has to try to convey the need for restraint to all parties, including Iran.”
The U.S. and China are also at deep odds over human rights in China’s western Xinjiang region, Tibet and Hong Kong, as well as the fate of several American citizens that the State Department says have been “wrongfully detained” by Chinese authorities, and the supply of precursors to make the synthetic opioid fentanyl that is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans.
China has repeatedly rejected the American criticism of its rights record as improper interference in its internal affairs. Yet, Blinken will again raise these issues, according to the State Department official.
Another department official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity to preview Blinken’s private talks with Chinese officials, said China had made efforts to rein in the export of materials that traffickers use to make fentanyl but that more needs to be done.
The two sides agreed last year to set up a working group to look into ways to combat the surge of production of fentanyl precursors in China and their export abroad. U.S. officials say they believe they had made some limited progress on cracking down on the illicit industry but many producers had found ways to get around new restrictions.
“We need to see continued and sustained progress,” the official said, adding that “more regular law enforcement” against Chinese precursor producers “would send a strong signal of China’s commitment to address this issue.”

House passes key foreign aid package
By Kaanita Iyer, Shania Shelton and Isabelle D'Antonio, CNN
The House just voted on a potential TikTok ban (again). Now what?
From CNN's Brian Fung
House lawmakers have once again passed legislation that could lead to a nationwide TikTok ban, renewing a massive threat to the company’s US operations.
Here’s what we know, and how it could affect you:
Didn’t the House vote on something like this recently?
Yes. In March, House lawmakers approved a bill that would give TikTok roughly six months to sell or the app would be prohibited from US app stores and from “internet hosting services” that support it.
What makes this bill different?
Instead of a six-month deadline, TikTok would have roughly nine months, which could be extended by President Joe Biden by 90 days if he determines there’s been progress toward a sale. Also, the bill has now been inserted into a larger foreign aid package, which makes it much harder for lawmakers to oppose the measure.
Could the Senate vote on the foreign aid package without the TikTok language?
Senators could try to strip out the TikTok legislation, but policy analysts view it as unlikely, as quickly approving the foreign aid is a top congressional priority.
What does this mean for my use of the app?
If the Senate votes to approve the TikTok legislation, it heads to the desk of Biden, who endorsed the prior version of the bill and may quickly sign any foreign aid package that includes similar language targeting TikTok.
In theory, that would start the 270-day clock for TikTok to find a buyer. If it can’t separate from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, then users could be cut off. But that is still a big “if.”
The House passed a key foreign aid package. Catch up on what happened
The House on Saturday passed a key package that provides aid to Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific region, while also addressing GOP legislative priorities, such as sanctions on Iran and a potential ban on TikTok.
Here's what you need to know:
It's a $95 billion package
- The bills provide nearly $61 billion for Ukraine, more than $26 billion for Israel and more than $8 billion for Indo-Pacific security.
The package could lead to a TikTok ban
- The fourth bill in the package would place sanctions on the seizure of frozen Russian sovereign assets and a measure that could lead to a nationwide ban of TikTok .
- If passed, the bill would give the app's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, nine months to sell the social media company or it would be banned from US app stores.
How the House voted on each measure
- Ukraine aid: 311-112. This was the most contentious bill and it received unanimous support from Democrats, while Republicans were split.
- Israel aid: 366-58
- Indo-Pacific aid: 385-34
- TikTok and Iran sanctions bill : 360-58
What happens next
- The legislation will be combined into one amendment before being sent to the Senate, where lawmakers will begin voting on it Tuesday.
- The Senate is likely to pass the package, which would then head to President Joe Biden , who has signaled that he would sign it.
Speaker Johnson's job is safe, for now
- Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she won’t move forward with her motion to vacate House Speaker Mike Johnson on Saturday to allow her GOP colleagues to hear from their constituents during the one-week recess.
Palestinian official condemns vote by US House for aid package to Israel
From CNN's Eyad Kourdi
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the spokesperson for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, voiced strong condemnation of the US House's approval of a $26 billion aid package for Israel, claiming the funding will directly correlate to the increasing number of Palestinian casualties, according to a statement published Saturday by WAFA, the official Palestinian agency.
Abu Rudeineh criticized the support, claiming it gives Israel the green light to broaden the war across the region and undermines the prospects for regional and global stability.
"US security aid [to Israel] constitutes a dangerous escalation and aggression against the Palestinian people," Abu Rudeineh added.
19 House Progressive Caucus members say Israel aid bill "could result in more killings of civilians"
From CNN's Philip Wang and Sahar Akbarzai
Nineteen members of the House Progressive Caucus who voted against further aid to Israel said Saturday that “we make ourselves complicit in this tragedy” if Congress continues to supply military assistance amid the humanitarian crisis in Gaza .
More than 34,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began in October, according to the Ministry of Health there.
The statement also called for a ceasefire in Gaza, more humanitarian aid to be delivered, and peace talks to begin.
“When faced with the question of whether to provide offensive aid to further this conflict, we believe there is a moral imperative to find another path," the statement said.
These are the 19 progressive members who voted against the measure: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velázquez of New York; Joaquin Castro, Lloyd Doggett and Greg Casar of Texas; Pramila Jayapal of Washington; Ro Khanna, Mark Takano, Barbara Lee and Judy Chu of California; Becca Balint of Vermont; Jim McGovern of Massachusetts; Earl Blumenauer of Oregon; Hank Johnson of Georgia; André Carson of Indiana; Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey; Jesús García and Jonathan Jackson of Illinois; and Jill Tokuda of Hawaii.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says foreign aid bills will allow department "to surge lifesaving security assistance"
From CNN's Samantha Waldenberg
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Saturday celebrated the House's passage of a $95 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific.
“This bipartisan legislation will allow the Department to surge lifesaving security assistance to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia's aggression, support Israel's defense from Iran and its proxies, and increase the flow of urgently needed humanitarian aid to suffering Palestinian civilians in Gaza,” he said in a statement.
Austin added that the package of bills will “save lives” and that the “world is watching” what the United States does.
"We have seen yet again that the troubles of our times will only worsen without strong, steady U.S. leadership to advance our core security interests," Austin said, adding, "We must never give our friends, our rivals, or our foes any reason to doubt America's resolve."
"We have not been forgotten": Ukrainian troops describe morale boost from US House vote
From CNN's Daria Tarasova-Markina and Andrew Carey in Kyiv
Ukrainian servicemen told CNN the US House vote to approve military aid provides a much-needed shot in the arm.
“We thought that our partners had forgotten about us,” an intelligence officer who is serving in the Zaporizhzhia region said in a phone conversation. “This news gives us a sense of support and understanding that we have not been forgotten.”
An artillery reconnaissance commander who spent two years defending the town of Avdiivka before it fell to Russia in February had a similar message.
“When we feel support from the outside, it motivates us. After all, the military knows it cannot win with sticks and bows and arrows,” he told CNN. “For people who want to defeat the enemy, this news is a great morale booster.”
Russian Foreign Ministry says US foreign aid package will "exacerbate global crises"
From CNN's Fred Pleitgen in Kyiv and Matt Meyer
A foreign aid package passed by the US House of Representatives will “exacerbate global crises,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a statement to CNN on Saturday.
Zakharova said that in addition to the package's "military aid to the Kyiv regime," the bills would support Taiwan's "interference in China’s internal affairs" and allow Israel to continue "a direct path toward escalating unprecedented aggravation in the region."
Some context: Russia, which is aligned with China and Iran on the global stage, has long painted US aid to Ukraine as American interventionism and an attempt to assert Western influence in the region.
Ukraine has said aid from Washington is critical as it continues to fight back against the full-scale invasion Moscow launched into its territory in February 2022.
Greene and Massie rail on Johnson, say more Republicans will join their effort to oust him after speaking to their constituents
From CNN’s Morgan Rimmer, Manu Raju and Haley Talbot
GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie railed on House Speaker Mike Johnson and his handling of the foreign aid bills, despite deciding not to move to oust the speaker Saturday.
Greene argued that more House Republicans will support their effort after going home over recess and speaking with their constituents.
“I'm actually gonna let my colleagues go home and hear from their constituents, because I think people have been too obsessed with voting for foreign wars and the murder industry here in America to actually understand how angry Americans are,” the Georgia Republican told CNN.
Massie, a Kentucky Republican, added that they are giving Johnson the chance to resign, although the speaker has insisted he won’t . Massie added he believes a motion to vacate — a rarely used procedural tool to remove the House speaker — will happen eventually.
“I'm pretty sure one will come to the floor, if he doesn't resign at some point, but we're trying to avoid that,” he said.
Greene insisted their effort to oust Johnson is gaining momentum, adding that the speaker is "a lame duck." Rep. Paul Gosar Friday signed on to the effort Friday, becoming the third member to do so.
“If we had the vote today in our conference, he would not be speaker today. He's already a lame duck, he can't raise money, everyone knows it,” Greene claimed.
Vulnerable House Republicans praise Johnson for handling of foreign aid bills
From CNN's Morgan Rimmer
Several swing-district House Republicans praised Speaker Mike Johnson for pushing forward with the foreign aid bills and attacked his detractors.
Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro, a vulnerable New York freshman lawmaker, told CNN’s Manu Raju that after speaking with his constituents, “It is clear to me that there are moments in time where we must do the right thing, and today we did that.”
He defended Johnson for waiting for months to hold votes on aid for critical allies Israel and Ukraine, saying the speaker had to build bipartisan consensus in "a very complicated Congress." Molinaro said he hoped Johnson’s detractors do not attempt to oust him, warning them that Congress is not “only supposed to do what they want.”
Rep. Jen Kiggans, a vulnerable Republican from Virginia, also praised the speaker.
“I'm very proud of Mike Johnson. I know what he did today was difficult, but there was a lot of us standing by him, and you saw great bipartisan effort today. And that's what Americans want to see,” she said.
Kiggans criticized the GOP hardliners who have pushed for Johnson’s ouster over the foreign aid package, saying, "It frustrates me when we have members of our conference who are isolationist; who don't believe in standing with our allies.”

Blinken Goes to China With Potential Trouble on Horizon
The secretary of state’s visit comes as Democrats and Republicans are vying to appear tougher on China.
By Vivian Wang
Reporting from Beijing
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken arrived in China on Wednesday to try to preserve the recent and delicate stabilization of ties between the United States and China, as tensions over trade, territorial disputes and national security threaten to derail relations again.
Even before Mr. Blinken’s plane approached Shanghai, the challenges ahead were apparent. He landed just hours after the U.S. Senate passed a bill , which President Biden is expected to quickly sign into law, that provides $8 billion to Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific region, and could also lead to a nationwide ban on the Chinese-owned app TikTok .
The political season in the United States also looms as a complication. With the presidential election nearing, Democrats and Republicans are vying to appear tougher on China. And if former President Donald Trump is re-elected, he could reverse Beijing’s and Washington’s efforts to steady the relationship.
During Mr. Blinken’s three-day trip, which will also include a visit to Beijing, he plans to press Chinese officials on a wide range of issues, including its support for Russia, cheap Chinese exports that U.S. officials say threaten American jobs, and Chinese ships’ aggressive maneuvers in the South China Sea, a senior State Department official told reporters in a telephone briefing.
Chinese officials are likely to bring up American support for Taiwan, the self-governing island that China claims, and trade restrictions that Beijing calls discriminatory.
Mr. Blinken is expected to meet with China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi. It is not clear whether he will meet with China’s leader, Xi Jinping, as he did during his last visit , in June.
That visit — the first by an American secretary of state to China since 2018 — came at perhaps the worst moment in U.S.-China relations in recent years. High-level military communications were cut off, and neighboring countries worried that the two powers might stumble into a war.
Since then, relations have thawed somewhat. China’s economy is slowing, and Beijing has adopted a softer diplomatic tone to attract more foreign investment. Washington, though continuing to warn that China poses a global security threat, has said it wants to keep communication open.
In November, Mr. Biden and Mr. Xi met for four hours near San Francisco. Afterward, China agreed to resume cooperation with the United States on fighting the global production of fentanyl, and both countries affirmed the importance of restoring cultural exchanges. The two leaders also spoke by phone this month.
Last week, the countries’ top defense officials held a video conference, their first substantive engagement since late 2022.
But new sources of tension are rising. Western officials have grown increasingly vocal about concerns that China is backing Russia in its war in Ukraine. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, during her own visit to China earlier this month, warned of “ significant consequences ” if Beijing provides material support. China has maintained that it is not, while deepening ties with Moscow. Mr. Xi hosted Russia’s foreign minister this month, and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia is expected to visit China soon.
U.S. officials have also said China is dumping cheap electric vehicles and solar panels in overseas markets, hurting American companies. China has rejected the accusations as smacking of protectionism.
Chinese ships’ aggressive behavior in waters disputed with the Philippines and Japan has also raised concerns about a possible clash that could draw in the United States, a treaty ally of those countries.
On Taiwan, perhaps the most sensitive issue in the U.S.-China relationship, the island is set to inaugurate its new president , Lai Ching-te — whom Beijing reviles as an advocate of Taiwanese independence — next month.
Asked at a regular news briefing on Wednesday about Congress’s new aid for Taiwan, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, said that stronger military cooperation between the United States and Taiwan would “not bring about security for Taiwan” and would “only escalate tensions across the Taiwan Strait.”
China’s defense minister, Dong Jun, had told U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during their call that China would “brook no compromise” on Taiwan, according to the Chinese readout .
Mr. Wang declined to answer repeated questions about TikTok on Wednesday. He referred reporters to previous statements from China’s Ministry of Commerce, which has said it would “ firmly oppose ” a sale of the app.
Within the United States, anti-China rhetoric is likely to intensify as the Democrats and Republicans compete to outdo each other on one of the few areas of bipartisan agreement. Campaigning last week in Pennsylvania, a steelworking stronghold, Mr. Biden called for raising tariffs on steel imports from China.
“We had high hopes after the San Francisco summit, but recent developments are putting a lot of stress on the relationship,” said Xie Tao, the dean of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy at Beijing Foreign Studies University. “When you add all these negative developments together, you have a pretty depressing picture of the U.S.-China relationship right now.”
Both countries have reason to try to prevent escalating tensions. The United States has asked China to help restrain Iran, with which it has good relations, from pushing its hostilities with Israel into full-blown war. And China is eager to stave off further tariffs from the United States, as strong exports have helped it counterbalance its housing crisis and weak consumer spending.
But both countries may also have little room for diplomatic maneuvering, because of hardening public opinion on both sides.
“There are already so many irritants and issues of mistrust within the relationship,” said Allen Carlson, a professor of international relations at Cornell University.
“If you have a pot which is already close to boiling, it only takes adding a degree or two to push things over the edge.”
