Candiace Dillard-Bassett Reflects on 'Uphill Battle' to Becoming More Than a 'Housewives Singer'

PEOPLE sat down with the Real Housewives of Potomac star to chat about her new album, her first tour and what she's had to overcome in order to launch her music career

Candice Dillard-Bassett is basking in the success of her formidable music career.

A year after releasing her debut album Deep Space , the Real Housewives of Potomac star hit the road this month on her first-ever headline tour — stopping in cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, Nashville and Atlanta along the way.

It was a milestone even Candiace, as she goes by in her recording career, is still wrapping her head around.

"I still don't believe that I'm actually here!" she tells PEOPLE's Nathan Vinson, ahead of her show Saturday night at City Winery in Washington, D.C. "The Deep Space Tour, this is my thing. This is my brainchild. I literally said out of my mouth, 'I want to do a City Winery tour,' and my team and manager Nye [Davidson] made it happen. So it's been so incredible to go out there night after night and live out my dream. It's really insane to even think about!"

Candiace just didn't get here overnight, of course. The former Miss United States has been pounding the pavements to make her launch into music a reality ever since she first started showing off her vocals on season 3 of RHOP , when she first joined the franchise.

At her 2018 wedding to husband Chris Bassett, featured on season 4 of the Bravo series, she sang and recorded the original love ballad "I See You" for Bassett. A go-go remix of the tune featuring Big G and UNO came in April 2020, the tune — featuring Candiace's luscious vocals with a more upbeat backing — sparking demand in audiences for a full album.

Deep Space was just that, dropping in September 2021 to much acclaim, reaching over 3 million streams and spawning the hit single "Drive Back." It's an especially gratifying achievement as Real Housewives stars who have previously attempted to launch music careers typically don't go far beyond one-hit-wonder status.

"I knew that I would have a sort of uphill battle," Candiace recalls to PEOPLE. "No shade meant to other Housewives, they're doing their thing, but there's this sort of stigma attached to Housewives who sing. 'Oh, look, it's another Housewife that wants to do a song.' So I expected to have to fight against that."

"I've always, in my mind, been an artist. In my heart, I've always been a performer and I wanted that to translate to the Bravo audience, but also just to lovers of music, lovers of artistry and lovers of all things this space," she adds. "So I've tried to be very intentional about how I roll out my music, how I roll out my music videos, how I present myself as an artist such that I'm presenting myself in a way that surpasses just being in the Housewife space."

That doesn't mean that Candiace isn't grateful to the Bravo fans for their unwavering support. "They've been absolutely incredible," she shares. "Bravo has given me so much. I mean I've been able to amass the amazing team you see around me because of my platform and my presence on Bravo. So I'm very happy to be a part of it."

But she's been putting in the work, too, even when it comes to live performances like the one she did on during a visit to BravoCon 2022 this month. Earlier this year, she appeared as an opener on the Femme It Forward tour, opening up for R&B divas like Faith Evans, SWV, Mya and 702.

"Femme It Forward was really my first tour and it was so special," she says. "Everybody was there to share in that moment with me and open for the greats in R&B. Women I literally studied their artistry to perfect the kind of artist I wanted to be. That's an honor. It was a completely surreal experience to be up there with these titans of the industry."

Since then, Candiace — who also dropped a Christmas song last year — has been hard at work on her second album, Deep Space Deluxe . Below, she tells PEOPLE all about it — plus what fans can expect from her down the road.

PEOPLE: What can fans expect from Deep Space Deluxe ? We know you have recently teased a collaboration with "The Baddest" — also known as the trailblazing rapper Trina. Candiace Dillard-Bassett: Oh, yes! I just can't believe that Trina even entertained me. Like girl, are you kidding? It was a surreal experience to work with her. She's the most down-to-earth, sweetest, most amazing woman. She's the kind of artist that I want to be when I'm her.

That single, "Insecure" featuring Trina, actually comes out right around Thanksgiving and we also did a visual for "Insecure." It's disgustingly dope. It's insane. It was intricate and colorful and sexy and just everything. It's my best visual to date. Isaac Carree, who is an incredible gospel singer, is featured on my inspirational song "Win." Q Parker– we did "Benefits Pt. II," which will be on the deluxe. And then we have four new songs, three of which you will hear at the show in DC.

I really enjoy "Affirmations," which is one of the new songs, because of the premise of the message behind the song. It kind of has an anthemic vibe. And I just remind you that you're enough, no matter what's going on around you.

So this is truly a deluxe album! New songs, new collaborations. Having an inspirational track as the final track on your album is classic Black artistry– something that we don't get as often today. What other elements do you feel like you pull from artists that you grew up loving? Deep Space and the deluxe are both an homage to 90s R&B because that's the era when I really fell in love with music. Where I learned to kind of hone my skills and my want to move into the artist space.

I definitely wanted to take the interlude and the intro/outro moments from '90s R&B, so you have that on Deep Space and on the deluxe. I wanna talk to my listeners, so you either hear me talking or others talking to introduce and open up new songs. I look forward to hearing everybody's thoughts and I love that the minute that Deep Space dropped, my true R&B heads and real R&B fans, they got it. They understood what I was trying to do. So I look forward to having that same sort of understanding with my listeners on Deep Space Deluxe .

You are a Howard University graduate twice over. Your co-writer/manager Nye Davidson is a Florida A&M University alumnus. How do you feel your Historically Black College/University (HBCU) experience shows up in the music industry and your music business? I think that the HBCU experience has absolutely informed how I have moved in the music space. You cannot match the network of people that you meet and the way that people want to reach back and help and advise and cheer for you simply because you share a beautiful experience that is the HBCU experience. It's very unique. Howard University is a campus that sits right in the middle of northwest DC. Howard made me scrappy. It made me savvy. It made me brave. Incredibly audacious. And those are qualities that you have to have to step out on faith and move in the music industry. A lot of the confidence (and a little bit of the arrogance) comes from what I learned and what I was able to carry with me from Howard.

Of course, you're ending your tour in D.C. Can we expect any of your RHOP castmates to make an appearance? That is a good question! I do not know. I've invited a few of the girls, but also, we've been promoting for months. So they know where to find me, child. They want to show up? Come on through!

What makes a Candiace Dillard-Bassett show a must-see show? Authenticity and a good kiki! I'm often known for going off script and just vibing with whoever is in the room. Every show is a little bit different because I'm going with the vibes in the space. So far, every city has been incredible. Philly wanted an encore. Chicago was a packed house. Nashville is being postponed. We're announcing a date very soon for Nashville, and I expect nothing less from Atlanta 'cause Atlanta is home to me. My family is there. I was raised in Georgia. Most of my family lives there, so that's home. To get that hometown love and hometown vibe is really special. And then DC is also home. Again, to get that love and that energy from DC is going to be amazing as well.

Releasing music when the public largely knows you as a “Real Housewife” can be a challenge. The women who do it often have a tough time being taken seriously as artists.

The Blender by Kevin C. Johnson keeps you up to date with the latest concert news and more from the St. Louis music scene.

Candiace Dillard Bassett knows this. As one of the sharp-tongued stars of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Potomac” reality series, she’s on the road promoting her 2021 debut album, “Deep Space.”

Bassett visits City Winery in St. Louis on July 23.

“Coming into the music space, there are naysayers who perhaps look at me and say: ‘Here’s that Housewife who’s doing music. We’ve seen this before — been there done that,’” she says. “There’s probably a lot of eye rolling, not taking me seriously. I was prepared for that.”

History isn’t exactly on Bassett’s side. “Real Housewives” of various cities before her have embarked on music careers, with mixed results: Kim Zolciak (Atlanta), Erika Jayne (Beverly Hills), Melissa Gorga (New Jersey), Luann de Lesseps (New York City), Sonja Morgan (New York City), Porsha Williams (Atlanta), Drew Sidora (Atlanta). Kandi Burruss was a Grammy winner long before she joined “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” in 2009.

Filming is underway for Season 8 of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” (this interview took place before a July 14 brawl at a club in Washington, D.C., with cast members including Bassett in attendance). Bassett, who has been with the show since its third season, had some anxiety when she made the move to music.

Candiace Dillard Bassett onstage Oct. 16, 2022, at BravoCon in New York City

“I went through multiple miniature panic attacks,” she says, wondering, “‘How will my music be received?’

“The platform I’m on affords a lot of opportunities, and I’m incredibly grateful for how the platform has catapulted me into the industry and into this area I’ve always seen myself in. With that, I had to be ready for certain types of criticism. I was prepared for that.”

One person who helped Bassett prepare was Burruss, a songwriter and singer.

“When I knew I would be pursuing music while in the ‘Housewife’ space, I looked to her,” Bassett says. “She was always incredibly supportive to me — more than she ever needed to be.”

When Bassett was in the ninth grade in Atlanta, she was part of a girl group called Blazzzzin. She met Burruss then when she visited a rehearsal to give advice.

Bassett says Jayne, of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” also has been supportive of her music.

Bassett displays plenty of musical prowess on “Deep Space,” which helps to squash any potential criticism of her abilities.

"Deep Space" by Candiace Dillard Bassett

“My one goal is to prove with my talent I’m not just a Housewife looking to do music,” she says. “I’m Candiace, the artist who happens to be a Housewife. That was the original goal. I feel like I’ve been successful in breaking those stereotypes — showing people I am more than one thing.”

Bassett — who also acts, appearing in “Cruel Encounters,” an upcoming BET movie, and “Hush,” an ALLBLK series — says “Deep Space is an introduction to Candiace the singer.

“It’s an introduction to the deepest parts of me — a side of me for people who were not privy to or have experienced,” she says. “I’ve loved music my whole life, been singing music my entire life and took a lot of pride in opening this door.”

Her influences include Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston and Brandy.

“As a child, I felt the contralto voice part was never as celebrated as some of the higher voices,” Bassett says. “When I was growing up, Mariah Carey was huge. I think a lot of the artists who were big at the time were always women singing high up to the rafters. That wasn’t my voice. I didn’t celebrate my voice until I studied Anita and Brandy. They taught me how to appreciate my voice.”

Bassett always knew she would create music and says she had been preparing for “Deep Space” all her life. The album includes “Insecure” (featuring rapper Trina), “Drive Back” and “Is It Enough?”

“I didn’t know the what, the when or the how it would come together,” says Bassett, who started working seriously on the album in 2019.

After fits and starts, through management and producer changes, she landed at MNRK Nashville, a label that she says has been supportive.

Working with the rapper Trina on “Insecure” was a surreal dream come true for Bassett. The pair shot a video for the song, and the making of the video was seen on “The Real Housewives of Potomac.”

“Trina was us shooting for the stars,” Bassett says. “My team reached out, and my jaw dropped to the floor when she agreed.”

Traci Braxton, of the singing Braxton family with Maryland roots as well, is featured on the song “Stay With Me.” Braxton died in 2022.

Bassett was recording “Stay With Me” and finding it a bit of a challenge until Braxton coached her in the studio.

“If you know Traci, you know she did everything with humor,” Bassett says. “I will never forget her spirit and energy and how uplifting she was to me — and not even knowing me personally. She really embraced me.”

At City Winery, she says, fans can expect a fun show by someone who has been around music her whole life. Her first concert was an MC Hammer show around age 8 or 9.

“I have a lot of respect for artists who ‘perform’ onstage — like Michael Jackson, Usher, Beyoncé — who give a full experience,” she says. “That’s what I imagined I would give an audience when it came time for me to perform, and that’s what you get.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett On Her Marriage, Mental Health And Motherhood: 'I Know I Want To Be A Mom, Just Not Right Now'

Candiace Dillard Bassett On Her Marriage, Mental Health And Motherhood: 'I Know I Want To Be A Mom, Just Not Right Now'

For seven years we have been tuning in to The Real Housewives of Potomac for the laughs, the tears, and the drama the cast members find themselves in. One cast member sure to provide all three is Candiace Dillard Bassett .

This spring, Bassett is taking her one-of-a-kind personality to the Real Housewives spin-off series, Ultimate Girls Trip , for its third season. For those new to it, UGT showcases eight housewives from various franchises coming together for an amazing trip. While they find themselves in gorgeous destinations, this time in Thailand, personalities often collide. Previews have made clear that Bassett will be involved in some collisions of her own in the new season. But when we talked to the TV personality, who is also an actress, singer and songwriter, entrepreneur and philanthropist, she made clear that there’s much more to her than what people have seen and will view on TV.

“I think that it’s always interesting to see Housewives out of their element. It is easy to get pigeonholed and for people to peg you as this one-dimensional thing,” she tells ESSENCE.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by CANDIACE (@therealcandiace)

But there are many facets to Bassett. There is much more happening in her life than filming hit Real Housewives shows too. If you watch RHOP, you know a big focus for Bassett is her music career . She is going on tour for her album, Deep Space , which is available on all streaming platforms, and her work is something she takes very seriously.

“It can be challenging. People do not take reality TV stars seriously. So there have been moments where I had to fight to be seen,” she said of her burgeoning music career. “But when I allow my passion, talent, and my willingness to work hard speak for me, it has worked in my favor. I do believe I am being received as a real artist.”

In addition to music, her mind is also on motherhood. Fans watched her start the process to freeze her eggs in the latest season of RHOP.

“One of the biggest things I learned is that there is still not enough information being disseminated to communities of color about the reproductive journey,” she says. “Most insurance companies only cover the egg freezing process, IVF or IUI, if you have shown to have fertility challenges within a year or more. For me that wasn’t my journey. So, I think there’s a lot of misconceptions about that.”

She adds, “What I hope to do, when sharing this part of my life, is to empower women to use IVF to take control of their motherhood and parenting journeys. I went through the egg freezing process because I wanted to plan my life. I have a lot going on and I know I want to be a mom, just not right now.”

Navigating the process has been no easy feat. There are a lot of steps, medications, money, and time that has to be accounted for when making the commitment. Add that to dealing with her cast members and it’s certainly a stressful undertaking. According to Bassett, the process required a strong support system every step of the way. Husband Chris was that and more.

“I would give Chris articles about ‘How to support your spouse’ because it is a very emotional process,” she says. “One of the things Chris does for me is give me long hugs. He comes home every day and gives me a long hug. It really helps me and makes me feel supported and seen by him. He also picks up medication for me and has been present with me every step of the way.”

Self-care has also been a great source of comfort for Bassett as she deals with work, life and more. As a reality star navigating stressful situations, a music career, and family planning, she’s found peace of mind through unexpected means, like skincare. So no matter what she’s dealing with or who she’s putting in their place, you can always expect to see Bassett glowing.

“I am a skin-care whore [laughs],” she jokes. “I am obsessed with skin care. When I turned 30, I felt that I needed to start getting a routine together. A routine that I can carry with me through my 30s, 40s, and beyond. I really started doing my research on what skin-care practices would be good for me. Shout out to Jackie Aina because she was one of the first YouTubers who was relatable and had a lot of recommendations. She introduced me to a few skin-care routines and that’s how I got started. Everything within skin care, from serums and tools to the lotions and potions, is the ultimate self-care.”

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip is now streaming on Peacock. You can catch new episodes every Thursday.

On the road, CANDIACE notably paid homage to R&B icon Toni Braxton with a showstopping cover of "He Wasn't Man Enough" at each date. She also energized the proceedings with a series of highlights from her Deep Space Deluxe Edition.

2022 saw CANDIACE return for the 7th season of The Real Housewives of Potomac on Bravo. As always, she lit up the screen like only she could, stealing each and every scene with confidence and charisma. With a lot more heat from CANDIACE, this season brought the fireworks to a whole new level, with episodes airing on Bravo on Sunday at 8 pm EST.

The original Deep Space continues to put up numbers, reeling in streams in the millions. Beyond the traction on DSPs, she incited the applause of everyone from Anita Baker and Nicki Minaj, to Toni Braxton. Upon arrival, it landed as one of the Top 25 R&B Albums in the Country. Among many highlights, it boasted the fan favorite single "Win." Beyond hundreds of thousands of streams, That Grape Juice hailed the single as an "empowering anthem, which aims to encourage and uplift."

CANDIACE keeps shining, with her single "Drive Back" recently reaching 3 million plus streams and her album Deep Space also reaching more than 3 million streams.

ABOUT CANDIACE DILLARD BASSETT:

A renaissance woman can do it all-and more. As a singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, personality, and philanthropist, Candiace Dillard Bassett shines as brightly as possible in each respective lane. Racking up millions of streams and views on her solo music, appearing in films for BET and NETFLIX, running various businesses, and entertaining audiences on BRAVO's The Real Housewives of Potomac, she consistently turns heads and inspires with everything she does.

While performing with the prestigious Howard Gospel Choir, her peers affectionately referred to her as "Toni" due to the alto power of her voice. She launched her career in Washington DC, working in the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs during the Obama administration before joining his reelection campaign as a staffer.

She also participated in countless pageants, reaching the apex as "Miss United States 2013." In order to guide and empower another generation of contestants, she founded Candiace Dillard Pageant Consulting. She also cofounded Prima Hair Collection by Candiace Dillard and co-owns Chateau Salon Suites.

Allowing audiences into her world, Candiace notably joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2018. However, music always remained close to her heart. She landed a deal with MNRK and unveiled her full-length debut Deep Space in 2021. The album vaulted into the Top 25 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart with Anita Baker and Toni Braxton both professing their fandom.

She made her big screen debut with a role in the award-winning Water in a Broken Glass. Other credits include a guest spot on NETFLIX's Family Reunion alongside Tia Mowry and BET's The Christmas Lottery. In 2022, she also stars in BET's It Takes Two as she prepares more music for release as well.

CANDIACE RECHARGES FAN-FAVORITE SINGLE “FINE WHINE” OUT NOW

Purple Agency

New York, NY — Rising R&B powerhouse CANDIACE refreshes her fan-favorite “Fine Whine” with an official re-release of the single. It graces her acclaimed 2022 full-length album, Deep Space (Deluxe Editon).

On the track, a dreamy soundscape uplifted by charging 808s and sizzling hi-hats immediately captivates as CANDIACE follows with a flurry of enchanting vocals. Her lyrics teem with emotion, detailing her uncontainable love and attraction for a significant other. Leaning into unforgettable melodies, it hinges on her anthemic hook, “Sexy fine whine, dutty fine whine, that shit I like.” She continues to urge, “Come and lay in my sheets tonight.”

Stay tuned for the official music video premiering on Friday, November 10. The single will also be featured in MTV's upcoming film Noah’s Arc, premiering this winter.

It arrives on the heels of her recent collaboration with Drew Sidora, “Affirmations, Pt. II.” The latter has garnered more than 175k Spotify streams while also reeling in critical acclaim from the likes of Rated R&B, That Grape Juice, Broadway World, and more.

In other news, CANDIACE just wrapped up the second leg of her highly-successful “Deep Space” Tour. Throughout 2023, she lit up stages across the nation with performances in Chicago, IL, Nashville, TN, New York, NY, and Atlanta, GA, to name a few.

Fans can tune into Season 8 of Real Housewives of Potomac to watch CANDIACE shine on the big screen.

CANDIACE built widespread hype with last year’s Deep Space. In its first week, it opened with more than half a million streams and has garnered north of 7.5 million streams to date. It achieved #24 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart and also peaked at #4 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart. Additionally, it earned praise from the likes of Anita Baker, Nicki Minaj, and Toni Braxton.

She then re-upped, re-energized, and recharged her acclaimed full-length debut album with eight recordings, including “INSECURE” [feat. Trina].

Right out of the gate, “INSECURE” incited critical applause and earned plugs from the likes of Bossip and That Grape Juice, who noted, "The ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star has been making solid strides with tracks such as ‘Drive Back’ and its housing album ‘Deep Space.’ And the trajectory continues with her newest number.” Rated R&B raved, “The spicy track contains some of the bluntest lyrics and heartfelt vocals as Candiace lets a fragile lover know it’s all him and not her, putting a damper on their relationship.” BET highlighted, “she’s telling the insecure folks about themselves.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett is leaving ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’. What she had to say

I t's a sad day for "The Real Housewives of Potomac" fans following the announcement that cast member Candiace Dillard Bassett will be exiting the show after six seasons.

Bassett told People exclusively on March 25 that she would be bidding farewell to the show, which she joined in Season Three. TODAY.com has reached out Bassett and Bravo for comment.

“As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with 'The Real Housewives of Potomac,' I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth and moments of introspection that have defined this journey,” she said in a statement given to People.

"With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from 'RHOP,'” she continued.

Bassett also thanked her longtime fans, writing, “Your unwavering support has been my guiding light, and I look forward to the exciting adventures that lie ahead — and more importantly, sharing them all with you!”

The decision comes ahead of the Season Eight reunion of “RHOP," to air on Sunday, March 31 on Bravo . Bravo is owned by NBCUniversal, TODAY's parent company.

What do fans have to say?

Following the news of the star's sudden departure, fans were in a social media frenzy.

"Wow! I hate that she’s leaving the show!" one fan on X wrote.

"I know she’s polarising but she has been an iconic housewife. I hope she returns in a few seasons," another wrote on Instagram .

"Honestly it’s for the best. Love me some candypants but this space isn’t healthy for her career anymore. 🤞crossed Keiana (Stewart) is in the running up to take her place in the cast," w ro te another user, speculating Bassett's potential replacement could be the best friend of current cast member Dr. Wendy Osefo.

Bassett, Osefo, and Stewart are pictured below, showing support for Bassett's performance of her single "Drive Back" in June 2023 during her "Deep Space" Tour .

She seemed all in for season 9

Prior to the announcement, Bassett appeared to be gearing up for Season Nine. She made a recent appearance with Osefo and "Housewives" producer Andy Cohen on "The Kelly Clarkson Show ."

The two make a few suggestions to Cohen about their franchise's future, including a visit to Nigeria and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

"I want to go to France, I want to go to France!" Bassett told Cohen.

"I'm recalling that 'RHOP' went to France," Cohen replied, only to be jokingly interrupted by Bassett saying she wanted to go again.

Bassett's milestones on the show

Bassett experienced cast conflict on "Real Housewives of Potomac" as well as life milestones. A notable moment was her 2018 wedding to husband Chris Bassett, shown in Season Four.

While she didn't unveil what's next, she assured, in her statement, that fans would be seeing more of her.

“This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later,'” she concludes in her statement.

Candiace Dillard Bassett Shares an Update on Her and Chris’ IVF Journey

The RHOP cast member told BravoTV.com that becoming parents is a top “priority” for her and her husband.

candiace deep space tour 2023

Candiace Dillard Bassett revealed at The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 7 reunion that she and her husband, Chris Bassett , had made major progress in their IVF journey , and now she’s sharing an update about their next steps.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Potomac on Bravo on Sundays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app .

As fans may recall, Candiace previously shared that she and Chris “were able to go through with a successful egg retrieval,” and they ended up with six embryos in total. In the months since then, the couple has been trying to determine “when the appropriate time to pop out a baby or two is,” she recently told BravoTV.com.

“It’s definitely a priority [and] we’re getting closer,” Candiace added. “Now it’s just a matter of figuring out when the right time of year would be.”

And yes, she does have a very specific time of year in mind. “I’ve joked about this, but I’m also very serious about the fact that I would love to plan around not having an Aquarian or a Gemini,” Candiace said with a laugh. “So [I’m] planning my pregnancies around those Zodiacs, ’cause you know, I don’t need an Aquarius or a Gemini in my house.”

“But on a serious note, we’re just figuring out the best time,” she continued. “Because Chris and I are both in a lot of positive transition spaces right now. I’ve been traveling a lot, Chris has been working a lot.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett Reveals Where She Stands with Robyn Dixon

In addition to traveling to Thailand for The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 3, Candiace has been on the road as part of her Deep Space tour . Couple that with the several other projects she has in the works, and it’s easy to understand just how busy her schedule is.

Still, moving forward, Candiace said she and Chris are dedicated to “finding the balance” needed in order to put “becoming parents” at the “top” of their to-do list.

The couple has long been open about wanting to grow their family, which includes  Chris’ kids from his previous relationships . Last November, Candiace shared in a  fan Q&A with Bravo  that, ideally, she “would love a boy and a girl, and that will complete our family.”

As for how  her stepchildren  initially reacted to the news that she and Chris want more kids, she noted that his daughter “was like, ‘No, I don’t want any more.’ Then I was like, ‘OK, well, you know, that’s good to know, but maybe it might be cool if we had one or two. I think we could make it work, right?’ And she was like, ‘Well, maybe I’ll think about it…’ I remember being that way when I was an only child. She’s the youngest, so I get it from being the youngest, from that perspective.”

As for Candiace’s one stepson, she said, “He’s a boy. So he’s like, ‘Yeah, cool. Whatever.’”
