D. From Port of Halong Bay

Mystical and magical, Halong Bay — comprised of more than 1,969 uninhabited islands and rock formations — is one of Asia’s great natural wonders. Vietnamese legend has it that the archipelago came into being when a dragon fell to earth; Ha Long Bay, loosely translated, means the Bay of the Descending Dragon. Situated in the Gulf of Tonkin, Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Pack your cameras and get up early as the scenery starts several hours before your ship docks, and witnessing fishing boats among the rocks at sunrise is a moment not to be missed.

Cruise passengers have two main choices of what to do in Halong Bay. You can either explore the bay on a “junk” cruise of varying duration or make the trek to Hanoi, a three-hour drive each way. Some ships dock for more than one day, allowing you to stay in Hanoi one night or take an overnight cruise. Even if your ship doesn’t do this, your port stop will be at least 12 hours to allow people enough time for longer excursions.

Halong Bay City itself is on a growth spurt. Construction cranes dot the port (known as Bai Chay), luxury hotels and resorts are on tap and the government is looking to build a beach to entice more tourism. Residents are very proud of the Bai Chay Bridge, a 3,629-foot cable-stayed bridge that changes color at night; it’s a pretty sight at nighttime sail-away.

Most cruise ships tender to the port area. Near the pier, it’s a 15-minute walk or so to shops, tourist markets and cafes.

Vietnam Travel also provides Pre & Post tours to Passenger of these cruise ships to Vietnam. Please contact our travel consultant for further support, detail itineraries and the best offers.

Luxury Cruises to Vietnam

Vietnam cruises with Celebrity show you the many faces of this intriguing country. Ancient temples, incense heavy in the air, contrast with a backdrop of glassy skyscrapers. A constant stream of scooters and motorbikes forms a river of activity through the busy cities, where street food sizzles on roadside stalls. But there’s serenity, too. Historic palaces and ornate pagodas lie in the midst of dense tropical vegetation, while emerald rice paddies reflect the vast sky.

Join a cooking class to prepare fresh, spicy Vietnamese specialties. Take a cycling tour around the enchanting town of Hoi An. See the sheer-sided limestone towers of Halong Bay from a kayak, and delve into modern history in Ho Chi Minh City, with its poignant museums and nearby, the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. You’ll find a dazzling choice of activities and excursions on a luxury cruise to Southeast Asia with Celebrity.

Vietnam Cruise Highlights

Ancient temples.

Vietnam’s countryside is dotted with majestic temples displaying an ageless beauty of bygone cultures. My Son temple complex, near Danang, is one of the most impressive, dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva. Although the crumbling buildings are partly consumed by tropical greenery, a visit here gives you an insight into the wealth and sophistication of Vietnam’s Cham dynasty. Near Hue, visit the Imperial City, a complex within the walled citadel that was once the seat of Vietnam’s Nguyen rulers.

Dazzling Scenery

When it comes to jaw-dropping natural beauty, Vietnam has it all. Some 1,600 jungly limestone towers are scattered across an often mist-shrouded sea in Halong Bay, where tooth-like mountains are reflected in mirror-calm paddy fields. In the far south, rivers criss-cross the vast maze of the green Mekong Delta, coconut palms lining their banks. You’ll find endless golden beaches, too, especially around Danang, lapped by the warm waters of the South China Sea.

Exciting Cuisine

Vietnamese food is both elegant and unique, and packed with contrasts. Spicy dishes are tempered with fresh herbs and vegetables, while crispy salads are paired with refreshing soups and noodles. During your cruise, you could learn to make classic dishes like crispy spring rolls, stir-fried beef, minty chicken salad, and green papaya salad topped with fresh shrimp. Even if you prefer not to cook, don’t miss a chance to browse Vietnam’s colorful markets and dine in a local restaurant.

+84 938 3143 86 ( whatsapp / wechat ), ho chi minh city cruise ports of call.

More and more tourists choose to travel the world by cruise ship. Cruise vacations are one of the most rapidly growing areas of tourism in the world. Cruise vacation benefits include safety, cost savings, convenience, and fun. Thousands of cruises are scheduled to visit ports in Vietnam every year. There are not less than 10 Vietnam cruise ports of call: Chan May, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Halong Bay Cai Lan, Phu My, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, etc. Many cruises stop for Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s biggest city where there is a large number of things to learn and explore. I am going to share with you essential information about Ho Chi Minh City Cruise Ports of Call, including how to get out of the port, how to travel the city at its best.

Table of Contents

I. Ho Chi Minh Cruise Ports of Call

At this time, there are 3 ports of call from where you can visit Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces including Vung Tau and Mekong Delta province. 3 Ho Chi Minh ports of call include Nha Rong Port, Hiep Phuoc Port, and Phu My Port. Depending on the size of the cruise ship, it will dock at one of the 3 ports above. The Nha Rong Port and Hiep Phuoc Port, which are a few kilometers far from the city center are for small cruises. Larger cruises must dock at Phu My Port, which is about 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City center. More information about the cruise ports are as below:

1. Nha Rong Port (or Nha Rong Khanh Hoi Port)

Location: on Saigon River, 157 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 18, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City; about 3.5 km from Ben Thanh Market.

What is near Nha Rong Port?

About 1km from Nha Rong Port, Nha Rong Wharf is located at 1 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 12, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. The wharf was built in 1864 and retains the unique architecture with the harmonious combination between Vietnamese and French culture. It is famous worldwide for witnessing Nguyen Tat Thanh (former name of Ho Chi Minh) started his journey seeking ways to save the country in 1911. Next to the wharf is the Ho Chi Minh Museum where you can see many exhibits, photos, and historical documents.

Xom Chieu Market is located at 1 Dinh Le Street, Ward 12, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. This local market is worth visiting because you can see many strange things including live animals and how local people sell and buy products. There are tens of food stalls serving amazing Ho Chi Minh foods and drinks.

Nearby ATM and banks where you can exchange currency and withdraw VND cash from your credit cards.

Vietcombank ATM and Vietcombank branch, 39602 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 13, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City; 500 m from Nha Rong Port.

Agribank branch, 170 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 13, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City; 800 m from Nha Rong Port.

The distances between the port and must-see attractions such as Nha Rong Port Bitexco Financial Tower, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Notre Dame Cathedral , The Central Post Office , People’s Committee Building , Saigon Opera House, War Remnants Museum , Independence Palace , Ben Thanh Market are less than 7 km.

Saigon China Town , Binh Tay Market, Thien Hau Temple are about 10 km from Nha Rong Port.

Cu Chi Tunnels is about 60 km from Nha Rong port. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach Cu Chi from the port.

How to travel Ho Chi Minh from Nha Rong Port?

To reach places within 1 km, you can walk. On the way, you can see and learn more about the unique lifestyle of local people. On the pavements, they may park motorbikes or sell street foods so that you have to walk on the streets. The traffic on the street is crazy so that be careful when you walk on both the pavements and the streets.

The bus fare is quite cheap in Ho Chi Minh City, the ticket prices range between 5,000 and 20,000 VND. However, it is convenient for travelers who stay in the city for a few days. Because you must return to the cruise and have limited time in the city, you should not spend your time waiting for the buses at bus stations.

Taxi is safer and more convenient but it is more expensive. The taxi fare is about 17,000 VND in Ho Chi Minh City. You may spend at least two hundreds of thousands of VND (10 USD) if you take taxis to attractions in District 1. For example, it takes about 100,000 VND from the port to Ben Thanh Market. You can walk from the market to other attractions. Finally, you pay 100,000 VND for the taxi returning you to the port. It costs about 160,000 VND to reach Saigon China Town from the port.

By private car or booking a tour

Your cruise operator offers tours around Ho Chi Minh City, to Cu Chi Tunnels or Mekong Delta. And it is the simplest choice. However, there are many better choices on the Internet. There are many interesting itineraries or tour programs which meet your expectation. It is better to book a tour including pick up at the port so that you do not reach the pickup location yourself. Another choice is booking a private car and travel the city yourself with a driver (and a guide).

2. Hiep Phuoc Port (or Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port)

Location: on Soai Rap River, Hamlet 2, Hiep Phuoc Commune, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City; about 16 km from Ben Thanh Market.

What is outside the port?

The nearest ATM is Techcombank ATM, C7 Block, Area C, Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, Hiep Phuoc Commune, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City.

There is no worthy attraction around the port so that it is better to reach the city center and see the attractions. It takes less than 1 hour to reach District 1 – the city center.

How to reach the city center from Hiep Phuoc Port?

The nearest bus station is “Nhà Tưởng Niệm Liệt Sĩ Huyện Nhà Bè” (Nha Be Martyrs’ Memorial), which is about 4 km from the port. There you can take bus #72 to reach the end of the route – 23/9 Park. The bus fare is 6,000 VND. However, walking for 4 km and sitting on the bus for 55 minutes is not a good idea.

It takes about 260,000 VND to reach the center from the port by taxi. Taking taxis is not a bad idea if you are from Nha Rong Port. In case you are docked at Hiep Phuoc Port, the taxi fare is rather high and you may encounter any taxi scam.

By shuttle bus

Your cruise may arrange shuttle buses to popular destinations nearby the port. They may charge you or offer free shuttle buses. The buses usually drop you off at a place in the center of the city. And you must come back to the pickup location on time. This is a minus of this choice.

Private car or a tour including pickup/drop off at the port is a smart choice. A transfer from Hiep Phuoc Port to the city center and vice versa by 4-seat car costs about 400,000 VND/one way.

3. Phu My Port

Location: Cai Mep-Thi Vai linking-port Road, Phu My District-level Town, Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province; 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City center.

What is outside Phu My port?

Bad news for you if you are going to be docked at Phu My Port. There are no passenger facilities, including ATMs around the port. In addition, you must walk for about 10 minutes to reach the gate where private drivers or taxi drivers wait for passengers. You will pay an extra 20 USD/person for permission to pick up inside the harbor.

How to reach the city center from Phu My Port?

By public bus

At this time, taking public buses is not an option because there is no bus stations or bus routes which goes straight from the port to nearby popular tourist destinations. Hopping on and off a few buses to reach Chi Minh is a real hassle for both locals and foreigners.

Do not take the hydrofoil/fast ferry to Saigon since it is old and unreliable.

The taxi fare is around 17,000 VND. The cost of the taxi ride from Phu My Port to Ho Chi Minh City is approximately 1,200,000 VND. Certainly, you also take a taxi to return to the cruise after visiting the city. The total taxi fare is 2,400,000 VND.

Your cruise may arrange shuttle buses to popular destinations nearby the port. They may charge you or offer free shuttle buses. The transfer from the port to Ho Chi Minh City by shuttle bus costs around 59 USD (~1,360,000 VND)/person/one-way. The buses usually drop you off at a place in the center of the city. And you must come back to the pickup location on time. This is a minus of this choice.

By pre-arranged private car

Similar to Hiep Phuoc Port, private car or a tour including pickup/drop off at Phu My Port is a smart choice. A transfer from Hiep Phuoc Port to the city center and vice versa by 4-seat car costs from 1,500,000 VND/one way. If there are more than 2 people in your group, the price is lower than the shuttle bus provided by your cruise.

If you are going to be docked at Phu My Port, check out the Ultimate Phu My Port Travel Guide .

Note: Citizens of most countries will be issued a loose-leaf visa on arrival at the port and the fee will be charged to their shipboard account.

II. Itinerary and Tours from Ho Chi Minh Cruise Ports of Call

1. which is the best among 4 choices to travel ho chi minh.

You have 4 choices if you are docked at one of Ho Chi Minh Cruise Ports of Call:

Book a Ho Chi Minh shore excursion from your cruise operator

The benefits of this choice include convenience and simplicity. However, better choices are abundant on the Internet. There are many interesting itineraries or tour programs which meet your expectation. In addition, the minuses include the high cost. I would like to recommend this option for old travelers and travelers have never been in Ho Chi Minh City.

Book a Ho Chi Minh shore excursion, including pickup/drop off at the port from a trusted tour agency

I have no comment on this choice because it is my favorite. I would like to recommend this option for everyone.

Book a Ho Chi Minh shore excursion, excluding pickup/drop off at the port from a trusted tour agency. Reach Ho Chi Minh City yourself and join the tour

Sometimes, the tour agency does not offer pickup and drop off at the port. Thus you must reach the pickup location yourself. It is a little inconvenient.

Reach Ho Chi Minh and travel the city yourself

This choice is recommended for young travelers, adventurous travelers, travelers who have been in the city before and would like to see something different and hidden. You can save your money with this choice, I think so.

2. Which Ho Chi Minh Shore Excursion should I choose?

There are not less than 10 Ho Chi Minh Shore Excursions for your choice. I would like to share the best tours as below:

Ho Chi Minh City Half Day : the tour shows you must-see tourist attractions in District 1 such as Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Saigon Opera House, City Hall, Ben Thanh Market, sometimes Jade Emperor Pagoda.

Cu Chi Tunnels Half Day : the tour takes you to the legendary underground tunnels which has a total length of about 200km.

4- hour Ho Chi Minh Tour by Motorbike : this is a unique tour which takes you around the city to see both tourist attractions and hidden places in narrow alleys on a motorbike.

Mekong Delta Tour (My Tho – Ben Tre) Full Day : on the tour, you will learn more about the unique lifestyle, enjoy the beautiful sights and local foods. This choice is not available for travelers from Phu My Port and only have one day.

3. This is for travelers who would like to explore the city themselves

You have limited time to see the city so that you should be smart to save your time and money. In this post, I could not write all the essential information for you. Follow the links below to learn more about connection (Wifi, Sim card, 3G/4G), currency exchange, transportation:

Cruises from/to Saigon, Vietnam

Saigon, vietnam cruise port.

  • The War Remnants Museum (formerly the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes) features plenty of exhibits, photographs, and weapons. Those interested in military history and baby boomers are most likely to engage, while those who are more sensitive may want to opt for the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City instead.
  • The Notre-Dame Basilica, made entirely of materials imported from France, was constructed between 1863 and 1880 by French colonists. For more French architecture, visit the neoclassical Saigon Central Post Office, built in 1886 by Gustave Eiffel (yes, of the tower fame).
  • Get a taste of Saigon's bustling shopping scene at the Ben Thanh Market. Here you'll find rows of stalls selling everything from familiar and exotic produce to art pieces. If all the browsing makes you hungry, plenty of vendors will sell you a snack or full meal.
  • If you want to get away from the city for a bit, take a one-hour ride to the Cu Chi Tunnels. These underground passages and living quarters were used during sneak attacks on American troops (although originally built during World War II to fight the French). Make sure to take the guided tour to get a complete historical telling.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.
