Lucas Oil Stadium History

Lucas Oil Stadium replaced the RCA Dome as the home field for NFL team Indianapolis Colts in 2008. Construction on the new stadium began in September 2005 and it hosted its first games nearly three years later in August 2008. With a seating capacity of 63,000, the stadium has several state-of-the-art features including a retractable roof that can open and close in approximately 11 minutes. The decision whether to leave the roof open or closed is left up to the home team, which can make their choice up until 90 minutes before kickoff. With Indianapolis’ warm humid summers and frigid winters, it often makes sense to keep the venue climate-controlled and close the roof. The stadium also features 360° ribbon boards, two 53-foot HD video boards and a retractable window that offers stadiumgoers views of downtown Indianapolis because of how it’s angled on the city block. What’s more, there’s a convenient underground walkway that connects the stadium with the nearby Indiana Convention Center.

Automotive oil manufacturer Lucas Oil secured the naming rights for the stadium for a term of 20 years for $122 million in 2006 before it was built. There are also four gates leading into the stadium, which are named for sponsoring corporations including Lucas Oil, Huntington Bank, Indianapolis Colts and Verizon Wireless.

In addition to NFL football games, the stadium also plays host to numerous sporting events including NCAA Men’s Basketball, Indiana High School Athletic Association State Football Championships, the NFL Scouting Combine and much more.

It’s also a favorite concert venue with big-name artists having graced its stage, including Madonna, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, U2, Beck and many others.

Adonai Mitchell drafted by Indianapolis Colts

Adonai Mitchell drafted by Indianapolis Colts

Texas WR Adonai Mitchell was selected in the second round with the 52nd overall pick.

DETROIT – Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 52nd overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday.

Mitchell is the second Texas wide receiver taken in this year's draft ( Xavier Worthy , Kansas City) and 12th receiver drafted since the NFL Draft moved to its current seven-round format in 1994. The selection of Mitchell and Worthy marks the first time since 2020 that two Longhorn receivers have been chosen in the same draft (Devin Duvernay, Collin Johnson) and third time under the current format (2004 – Roy Williams, Sloan Thomas).

Mitchell is the fifth Longhorn selected in first two rounds of this year's draft, improving on UT's all-time best for rounds one and two as well as its most picks ever among the first 52 selections. Just two rounds into the 2024 draft and the three offensive players selected already is the most in a Texas draft since they had four offensive players selected in 2008.

"What an awesome opportunity and a tremendous landing spot for AD Mitchell to be going to Indianapolis," said Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian . "The first thing I think of with AD is he's been a winner his whole life and he's going to bring that to the Colts. Three years in college football and he went to the College Football Playoff every year, won two national championships, and caught a touchdown in every one of those games. He's a guy who is very competitive, is a relentless worker, knows how to win and does the work that it takes to be a winner. AD was an awesome addition to our team in that he was a great complement to Xavier Worthy . Having somebody on the other side of him that defenses had to worry about was such a key to our success. He was a tremendous red zone weapon for us, having caught 11 touchdowns last year, and a lot of those came in critical moments when we needed to have it. The moment was never too big for him, which is exactly what we thought coming in with all the success he had in College Football Playoff games. There were games that he took over and he was the focal point. But I think the biggest thing was his ability to make big plays in critical moments when it was needed. With the size, the movement and ball skills with the ball in the air, and the red area weapon he is, AD is just a fantastic all-around player.

"AD's skill set translates really well to the NFL. He's got the size and speed, but what makes him truly unique is his ability to get in and out breaks for a guy who's that big and fast. He has the ball skills to make the contested catches, which is critical as the coverage gets tighter in the NFL. The Colts got a great one in AD, their fans will absolutely love him as a player and person, too. He'll be a great fit there and I'm looking forward to watching him do great things in the NFL."

A native of Missouri City, Texas, Mitchell appeared in 14 games with 13 starts in his lone season on the Forty Acres after transferring from Georgia. He had an immediate impact on the Texas offense, establishing career highs with 55 receptions, 845 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns on the 2023 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors from the Associated Press and Offensive Newcomer of the Year accolades from the conference's coaches. An All-Big second team selection, Mitchell's 11 touchdowns led the Big 12 and are tied for fifth-most in a season in program history, while his 55 receptions are the 24th-most in a season by a Longhorn. During his junior campaign he recorded a reception in all 14 games and at least three in 12 games, with seven receptions and three touchdowns of 30-plus yards.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

Adonai Mitchell

On his emotions in the moment: I'm excited to work, excited to get to Indianapolis and be the best teammate I can be and the best person, and ultimately, the best player I can be for the team. It's been a long time coming, and all the people who were here for the moment, those are the people that I truly love and am truly grateful to have them around. I'm extremely beyond grateful to the coaches and the organization. We've got a lot of work to do and we're hitting the ground running.

On his relationship with the Colts in the draft process: I met with them a couple of times, once at the combine and once right after pro day. Just getting to meet with the coaches and have that conversation, I feel like we've just been building.

On his interactions with Reggie Wayne: Just being able to be in the presence of a legend. Obviously he played alongside Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, so I'll just be able to come in and soak information up from him like a sponge, just knowing that I don't know everything, and he knows a lot that I don't know to take my game to the next level. I'm just ready and excited to work with him.

On Anthony Richardson: He's a freak athlete, extremely talented with a very high ceiling, and I'm just blessed to be able to share that offense with him and excited to learn with him and grow with him. I'm really just excited to grow there and embrace a new environment and new teammates. I'm looking forward to everything.

On the reaction for his family and his daughter: She's pretty young, so she doesn't really know what's going on. Everyone started screaming and she started crying, I guess she thought it was bad news or something, but later in life she'll understand. Just to give her everything she wants and desires and to be able to build toward her future and put a smile on her face at the end of the day, that's just my goal as a father, to take care of her and provide for her, that's all I can do.

Patrick Mahomes Names Exact Moment He Realized Chiefs Are Now the NFL's Villain

  • Author: Tom Dierberger

In this story:

Like all dynasties in sports, the Kansas City Chiefs began their run of dominance as fan-favorite underdogs.

But after three Super Bowl titles in the last five years, the Chiefs—and especially quarterback Patrick Mahomes himself—are viewed outside of Kansas City as the league's new villains.

On a recent appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, Mahomes recalled the moment that he realized this was the case.

"This year, definitely, was the more villain-type role for the whole team," Mahomes said. "I don't think I really realized it—I heard people talking and obviously social media, there's people always talking—so I didn't know how real it was until I got to Buffalo this year."

The Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have developed a heated rivalry over the last few seasons. Kansas City has ended Buffalo's season in the playoffs in three of the last four years, including a 27–24 victory in the divisional round at Highmark Stadium in January.

"I think I saw 40,000 middle fingers on the way into the stadium," Mahomes said. "They were ready to go. We go out there and win, I'm trying to hand my headband and sleeve off to a kid, and snowballs are just flying at me.

"I'm just like, 'These people really don't like me.' It's not fake at all. I think they have a great fan base."

The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Bills at Highmark Stadium once again during the 2024 regular season.

Buffalo and its loyal fan base will look for revenge against Mahomes, the NFL's current best quarterback and apparently greatest villain.

Texans quarterback c.j. stroud goes global during 2024 asia tour with cowboys star micah parsons, share this article.

The Houston Texans’ growing popularity comes after its surprise 10-7 season, largely due to the efforts of AP Rookies of the Year C.J. Stroud and defensive end Will Anderson Jr.

Stroud recently partnered with Dallas Cowboys star pass-rusher and Lone Star State icon Micah Parsons to hold youth and high school football camps for 10 days in three cities in Asia.

The 2024 Asia Tour, sponsored by Gridiron Imports , is a non-profit organization that aims to provide players around the world with an opportunity to play football and receive education at the high school and college levels in the United States.

Friday marked the second day in Beijing, which Stroud shared with his Instagram followers, posting videos of him snapping photos with campers and going through drills.

CJ out there teaching the best sport in the world in China. If he becomes the favorite NFL player in China.. look out. About to do numbers. pic.twitter.com/gDJynvIz9l — Houston Stressans (@TexansCommenter) May 1, 2024

The duo will wrap up their time in Beijing on Saturday before stopping in Shanghai the same day and leaving the next. They’ll complete the tour with a week-long stay in Tokyo starting next week.

While rivals during the season, Stroud and Parsons have frequently appeared alongside each other in the offseason. The Texans’ quarterback was a recent guest on Parson’s Bleacher Report podcast “The Edge” and again sat down together on B/R’s NFL Draft Live Show.

The content did not disappoint.

THIS IS AWESOME… CJ Stroud picking his all-offense versus Micah Parsons picking his all-defense, and the two arguing why they will win. 🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/5FjDz90j1v — MLFootball (@_MLFootball) April 25, 2024

The two courtside together at Game 4 of the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks playoff series, prompting another humorous quotable from Parsons that flabbergasted Stroud.

CJ Stroud dunking on Micah Parsons all offseason has been hilarious to watch pic.twitter.com/R3YXSF40kb — Jacob (@Stroud4AllPro) April 28, 2024

The two are clearly good friends off the field. On, they’ll meet for bragging rights when Houston travels to Arlington and AT&T Stadium to Dallas during the upcoming regular season.

Stroud’s play has factored into his ascension into superstardom, and the continually rising popularity of social media has him poised to reach a level of buzz Houston has yet to see in this new age of technology.

While J.J. Watt remains the franchise’s most influential star, even he couldn’t create the same hype as a young and talented quarterback like Stroud.

C.J. Stroud and Sketch has to be the most wholesome thing I've seen today. pic.twitter.com/2L9MJCAjg9 — te𝕏 🌎☄️💕® (@TexanicoYT) April 7, 2024

It’s a path nearly all legendary quarterbacks take. Fans loved Tom Brady when he was the underdog who upset the St. Louis Rams, dubbed the Greatest Show on Turf, but fans of teams outside of Boston hated him by the decade’s end.

Winning is the root of hate, and the Texans are building a strong contender after appearing in the playoffs again for the first time since 2019.

Free agency further magnified the buzz around the AFC South ballclub with the additions of Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry. At the same time, Stroud and the offense gained reinforcements from trades that secured Pro Bowlers Joe Mixon and Stefon Diggs.

Winning the AFC South comes with playing a first-place schedule, including matchups with seven playoff teams from a year ago. It’ll be must-see TV when Stroud duels Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and reigning league MVP Lamar Jackson.

Houston had zero primetime games in 2023 until its regular season finale with Indianapolis moved to ESPN on Saturday. It was the nation’s first time truly watching Stroud since the College Football Playoff, and he gave them a show, throwing for 264 yards and tossing two touchdowns that led to a 23-19 division-clinching win.

This angle of CJ Stroud’s 75-yard TD is awesome. pic.twitter.com/Mvw5nEEige — Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 7, 2024

Houston will likely be in multiple primetime games in 2024, and perhaps one will be its matchup with Parsons and Dallas.

The Texans won’t take any teams by surprise this season, so it’ll be a developing story throughout the year if Stroud and his team make opposing fans envy their success.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.
