June is an excellent month for travelling across the country, with beautiful weather for most of the day. What’s more, you can get fabulous offers on family holiday packages in India with us!

We recommend visiting Mahabaleshwar, a beautiful hill station in Maharashtra. A modest and lovely hill station nurtured by the Sahyadri Mountain Range, Mahabaleshwar is the perfect place for a family trip in the company of nature. This mountainous hamlet in Satara district, nestled in the picturesque Western Ghats, has long been a popular summer getaway for Mumbaikars and Punekars.

Panchagani, Mahabaleshwar on a clear sunny day

Day 1: Immersing in the Splendor of Mahabaleshwar

Morning: breathtaking views at wilson point.

Begin your Mahabaleshwar adventure at Wilson Point , the pinnacle of natural beauty in the region. As the highest point, standing proudly at 1439 meters, it offers a 360-degree view of the town and surrounding valleys. Arriving here before dawn, you’ll witness the horizon gently kissed by the morning sun, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. This serene experience sets a tranquil tone for the rest of your journey.

Breakfast options near Wilson Point abound, from traditional Maharashtrian dishes to continental fare. A steaming cup of chai coupled with fresh poha or vada pav from a nearby vendor can be the perfect start to your day.

Afternoon: A Date with History at Pratapgad Fort

Midday calls for an expedition to the historic Pratapgad Fort , situated approximately 24 kilometers west of Mahabaleshwar. This fort is not just a testament to the architectural prowess of the Maratha Empire but also a site of the famous Battle of Pratapgad. Wander through the fort’s imposing gates, explore its secret passageways, and stand atop its bastions that once served as watchpoints against invaders. The fort’s museum, dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj’s life and his valorous deeds, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

For lunch, consider dining at the fort’s base, where several eateries offer delicious local cuisine such as masala bhat (spicy rice), bhakri (millet flatbread), and fiery Maratha chicken curries, providing a flavorful journey through Maharashtra’s culinary heritage.

Evening: Leisure Time at Venna Lake

As the sun mellows, make your way to the serene Venna Lake , enveloped by trees on all sides. Whether you choose to indulge in a leisurely boat ride, marveling at the reflections of the setting sun on the water, or prefer to sit by the shore enjoying the soothing breeze, Venna Lake offers a peaceful respite from the bustling city life. The lakeside is dotted with stalls selling a variety of local snacks like roasted corn and spiced fruit chaats, making it a perfect spot for an early evening snack.

Adjacent to Venna Lake, treat yourself to some horse riding or try your hand at mini-golf, both popular activities among visitors seeking a blend of leisure and adventure.

As daylight fades, Mahabaleshwar’s night sky, clear and studded with stars, invites you to linger a little longer by the lake, soaking in the tranquility before retiring to your accommodation. Speaking of which, finding the right place for a peaceful night’s rest is crucial for recharging for the adventures that await on Day 2.

No matter how you choose to spend your time, Day 1 in Mahabaleshwar is about connecting with the natural and historical essence of the place. The blend of scenic beauty, captivating history, and local gastronomy sets the perfect tone for the experiences that await you in the following days.

Day 2: Exploring the Gems of Mahabaleshwar

Morning: refreshing walks at lingmala waterfalls.

Awaken to the chorus of birds and start your day with an invigorating visit to Lingmala Waterfalls . A moderate trek through lush forests leads you to this natural spectacle. The water cascading from a height creates a misty aura, providing a mesmerizing sight and a refreshing plunge for the more adventurous. The green canopy overhead, the chirping of birds, and the water’s soothing sounds make for a truly rejuvenating experience. Ensure to carry your camera to capture the picturesque waterfall and maybe even a rainbow gracing the skies.

Afterward, a small café nearby offers the perfect spot for breakfast, where you can savor local delicacies like pithla bhakri (a chickpea flour curry served with millet flatbread) while enjoying views of the surrounding hills.

Afternoon: Strawberry Picking at Mapro Garden

Mahabaleshwar is synonymous with strawberries, and a visit to Mapro Garden is the best way to experience this connection. Wander through strawberry fields, pick fresh strawberries, and learn about the cultivation process from the friendly farmers. The on-site Mapro store is a haven for fruit-based products—don’t leave without trying their famed strawberry cream, a delightful concoction of fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and ice cream.

For lunch, the garden’s restaurant serves an array of scrumptious dishes, offering both local flavors and international cuisine, in a setting adorned with flower beds and strawberry plants.

Evening: Sunset at Bombay Point

End your day at Bombay Point , a spot renowned for its spectacular sunsets. The wide expanse of the plateau offers unobstructed views of the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of crimson and gold. The cool breeze and peaceful atmosphere provide a perfect setting to reflect on the day’s adventures. Local vendors nearby sell warm roasted peanuts and sweet corn, ideal for a light evening snack as you watch the sunset.

For those seeking a bit more excitement, horse riding is available around the point, offering an exhilarating way to explore the surrounding area.

Day 3: Discovering the Essence of Mahabaleshwar

Morning: spiritual solace at mahabaleshwar temple.

Your final day in Mahabaleshwar starts with a visit to the serene Mahabaleshwar Temple , an exemplary piece of ancient architecture nestled amidst a tranquil environment. Dating back to the 16th century, this temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, stands as a testament to the Maratha heritage. The spiritually charged atmosphere, combined with the intricate carvings and the sacred lingam, provides a perfect moment of introspection and solace. Spend some quiet moments here, absorbing the mystical vibes and the softly echoing chants which permeate the air.

A modest eatery nearby offers traditional Marathi breakfast options. Tuck into some sabudana khichdi or upma, paired with a steaming cup of chai, to energize you for the day ahead.

Afternoon: Panoramic Views from Arthur’s Seat

Continue your exploration by heading to Arthur’s Seat , often termed the Queen of Points for its majestic views. This viewpoint, perched at an altitude of 1340 meters, presents a spectacular panorama of the dense valleys of Mahabaleshwar and the meandering Savitri River. The refreshing climate and the breathtaking sights from Arthur’s Seat serve as a reminder of nature’s grandeur and are nothing short of therapeutic. The path leading to this point is dotted with small stalls selling local artifacts and souvenirs, perfect for picking up mementos of your journey.

For lunch, indulge in a leisurely meal at one of the several restaurants offering a patio view of the lush valleys. Enjoy traditional Maharashtrian cuisine or continental dishes as you soak in the peaceful ambience.

Evening: Shopping and Local Cuisine

Your trip to Mahabaleshwar wouldn’t be complete without experiencing its vibrant market life. Spend your evening strolling through the bustling bazaars, where you can find everything from fresh produce to exquisite handicrafts. Mahabaleshwar is renowned for its leather items, handcrafted walking sticks, and beautiful jute products, making for perfect souvenirs.

Conclude your day with dinner at a local dhaba or restaurant, where you can savor authentic Maharashtrian dishes like puran poli, varan bhaat, and sol kadhi, offering a fitting finale to your culinary journey. As the cool night air settles in, enjoy one last stroll, perhaps by Venna Lake, reflecting on the timeless beauty and the adventures experienced over the past three days.
