इ. स १७९१ मध्ये सर चार्ल्स मालेट येथे पाय ठेवणारे पहिले ब्रिटिश होते. जनरल पीटर लॉडविक आणि सर जॉन माल्कम, बॉम्बेचे गव्हर्नर यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली इ. स १८२८ मध्ये एक सेनेटोरियम बांधण्यात आले. महाबळेश्वरला नंतर ब्रिटिश प्रदेश मानले गेले आणि त्याला ‘माल्कम पेट’ असे नाव देण्यात आले.
ब्रिटिश राजवटीत, रस्ते बांधले गेले, त्यानंतर अनेक रिसॉर्ट्स झपाट्याने सुरु करण्यात आले तसेच बंगले, चर्च आणि महाबळेश्वर क्लब बांधले गेले तसेच एक पोलो मैदान आणि रेसकोर्स उघडण्यात आले. १९ व्या शतकात खुल्या जेल सुधारक केंद्राची स्थापना करण्यात आली आणि या ठिकाणी चीन आणि मलेशियातील दोषी येथे तैनात होते.

Mahabaleshwar temple is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva, located around 6 kilometers from Mahabaleshwar in the Satara district of Maharashtra. The revered Hindu temple is a landmark of the opulent Maratha heritage. Set up in hilly terrain, the temple was constructed during the rule of the Chanda Rao More dynasty in the 16th century.
Built in the South Indian Hemadanta style of architecture, Mahabaleshwar temple is among the most sacred Shiva temples in the country and also referred to as Dakshina Kashi. The sanctum sanctorum houses the 1500 years old self-built 6 feet high Atma Lingam and the Para Lingam.
You can also witness other belongings of Lord Shiva like his Damru, Trishul, Rudraksha, and the statue of Nandi (the sacred bull) at the premises. Locals also describe a raised platform in the temple to be the place where the Maratha King Shivaji weighed his mother Jijabai in gold which was donated for charity.

The famous strawberry plantations of Mahabaleshwar owned by Mapro are situated at Gureghar on the Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani road. Established by Mr. Kishore Vora in 1959, Mapro is a prominent food processing brand with an annual capacity of around 30 thousand.
MT. Mapro Garden is an idyllic orchard popular for the cultivation of delicious strawberries. The Park’s chocolate factory is a major tourist attraction in addition to the fresh and yummy strawberry shakes, icecreams, and salads served by them.
The lush green garden has a nursery, a restaurant, and a children's play area making it a perfect place to spend your day enjoying with family and kids. 3. Arthur’s Seat
Located 1470 meters above sea level is Mahableshwar’s most famous viewpoint, Arthur’s Seat, also popular as the “Queen of Points”. Originally referred to as Madhi Mahal, the point offers enchanting views of the Savitri River on the left and the dense forests of “Bramha Aranya” on the right.
As per legend, the viewpoint is named after Arthur Malet, who used to stare at the Savitri river for hours and mourn the loss of his beloved wife and daughter. They had drowned in the river and hence the point is also addressed as Suicide Point. Mahabaleshwar is a hill station located in the Western Ghats, in Satara district of Maharashtra. Apart from its strawberries, Mahabaleshwar is also well known for its numerous rivers, magnificent cascades and majestic peaks. It is among the most sought after weekend getaways from Pune & Mumbai, located about 120km south-west of Pune and 285km from Mumbai.
Mahabaleshwar is also a sacred pilgrimage place for Hindus as the Krishna river originates from here. Once a summer capital of the British, the hill station of Mahabaleshwar comprises of ancient temples, boarding schools, manicured and lush green dense forest, waterfalls, hills, valleys. It is often used as a base to visit the magnificent Pratapgad Fort , located an hour away. Malcolm Peth, Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and a region of the Shindola village are the three villages that make up Mahabaleshwar.

Pratapgarh Fort, built in the 17th century by the renowned Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji, is among Mahabaleshwar's most important historical sites. According to legend, the fort was the location of several important events during the rule of the Maratha dynasty, including the historic Battle of Pratapgarh. Mahabaleshwar is the source of the Krishna River that flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in Panch Ganga Temple in Old Mahabaleshwar. Four other rivers also flow from here, before they merge into the Krishna; these are Koyana, Venna (Veni), Savitri, and Gayatri. Mahabaleshwar attracts hordes of tourists for its lovely views, beautiful landscapes and pleasant temperatures.
