About NINA ATTAL

New album “Pieces of Soul” – 21/05/2021

While a New York Times survey published last year found that the number of young women playing guitar is steadily increasing, Nina Attal is a pioneer with more than 600 concerts to her credit. The 29-year-old French singer and guitarist is releasing Pieces of Soul , her fourth album that shows her return to the blues, rhythm'n'blues and rock that sparked her passion for the instrument. Crowned in 2009 at the springboard of the “Blues sur Seine Festival”, the young guitar prodigy with a powerful soul voice has nevertheless turned to explosive funk-groovy sounds on the Urgency EP (2010), followed by the albums Yellow 8/17 (2011) and Wha (2014), before the emergence of more synthetic textures on Jump (2018), preceded by the Verso EP (2016). The singer-songwriter then imposes herself to the public like a rough diamond, free to shape her music as she wishes.

Written and composed in the wake of a road trip on the West Coast of the United States, then produced last summer in Normandy by ex-Beat Assaillant Maxime Lebidois, his fourth album is eagerly awaited, signing her arrival on the excellent Zamora label after 10 years of self-production.

These 12 tracks, to which is added a cover of "You're No Good" popularized by Linda Ronstadt, put the guitar back at the heart of her creative process, through a range of sunny sounds, discreetly and respectfully tinted by various Californian influences (Ben Harper, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer...).The riffs with rock distortions ("I Won't Make It", "Get Your Shit Together") are next to great blues-soul ballads ("Shape My Home"), folk ("Daughter") or rhythm'n'blues ("I Can't Stop Loving You"). Her lyrics, very personal, translate as many doubts as to her desire for emancipation. Inspired by her incompressible love for the music she has in her skin, just like her tattoos, Pieces of Soul undoubtedly offers Nina Attal a new dimension.  To listen urgently !

Singer, guitarist and songwriter Nina Attal will present in duet her fourth album "Pieces of Soul", witnessing her return to the blues and rock at the origin of her passion for the guitar. Written and composed in the wake of a road trip on the West Coast of the United States, produced by the ex-Beat Assaillant Maxime Lebidois, Pieces of Soul is a range of sunny sounds, discreetly and respectfully tinged by various Californian influences (John Mayer, Eagles, Lenny Kravitz ...). The riffs with rock saturations are next to formidable blues-soul, folk, or rhythm'n'blues ballads. His texts, very personal, translate as much questioning as his desires of emancipation. Funkelnde Augen, strahlendes Lächeln und eine Stimme, die dich überall dahin bringt, wohin sie will. Das ist  Nina Attal . Mit ihren 1,53 Metern ein echtes  musikalisches Energiebündel  – das jetzt mit neuer Band und neuem musikalischem Konzept, das deutlich edgier als ihre letzten Pop_Funk-Ausflüge daherkommt,  noch einmal richtig angreift.  Ohne ihre Roots zu verleugnen, verfolgt Nina dabei ihre eigenen Spuren, nur eben deutlich  zeitgemäßer , deutlich  rockiger ,  dreckiger  und noch  tanzbarer  als bisher.

Live bleiben dem begeisterten Zuschauer vor allem ihre  unbändige Spielfreude, Energie und Performance-Qualitäten  nachhaltig im Gedächtnis. Geebnet durch den vielbeachteten Erfolg auf dem  Reeperbahn Festival 2018 , wo sie das hemmungslos tanzende Publikum restlos zu begeistern wusste, feierte sie 2019 auf der nachfolgenden Tour eine Reihe eindrucksvoller Erfolge.

Nach dem letzten Konzert auf dem  Jazzfest Gronau  schwärmte man in höchsten Tönen von ihr und verglich sie gar mit der Funk-Ikone Prince. Hört man Nina Attal das erste Mal, hat man eher eine  Blues-Diva  aus Memphis vor Augen als eine lebhafte, zierliche,  endzwanziger Mademoiselle aus Paris. 

Nach  rasanter Entwicklung  und einer Rundreise  an der  US-amerikanischen Westküste  steht die Gitarre erneut im Zentrum der Kompositionen des  am 11.06.2021 erscheinenden neuen Albums „ PIECES OF SOUL “.  Die Songs sind wie das Albumcover von strahlendem Sonnenschein und Ninas geradezu leuchtender Stimme durchwirkt. Kunstvoll vermischt sie darauf  funkigen Blues mit jazzig-psychedelischem Rock  und auch die Balladen wie die  R’n’B-Coverversion des über Linda Ronstadt bekannt gewordenen Songs  „You’re No Good“  fehlen nicht.

Das Publikum darf sich darauf freuen,  wie sie diese Musik vor allem live mit ihrer  unverwechselbaren  eigenen Handschrift  zelebriert und dabei kunstvoll den  Rhodes-Sound der 70s mit coolen Grooves, peitschenden Basslinien und mitreißenden Riffs mischt  – ein  kraftvoller Mix mit Anklängen an  Stevie Wonder, Albert King und Chaka-Khan,  aber eben auch deutlich  moderneren Rock-Einflüssen  und dann beherrscht   ihre  hochenergetische Band   auch  den dreckigen  Funk . Und spätestens dann sind  alle „blue moods“ wie weggeblasen  und ihre Songs werden zur  wilden Attacke .  Voilà .
