Things You Must Do Before Your Next Salon Visit

salon visit day

Before your next hair appointment , you might want to brush up on salon etiquette . There are plenty of dos and don'ts of being in a salon, however, most salon etiquette happens before you ever sit in a stylist's chair. Being prepared for your hair appointment is just as important as the appointment itself. Doing just a few extra steps before you come in will help you make the most of the time with your stylist.

My other job is as a receptionist at a busy hair salon, so I've pretty much seen it all in the ways of client-stylist relationships. There are some clients who show up 30 minutes late, and then there are some who arrive with on-time with baskets of cookies (it only happened once, but it was glorious). Be the best client that you can be by being prepared. This doesn't mean that you have to bake your stylist cookies (though I'm sure no one would mind) but it does mean that you should do a few extra steps before your salon visit. For instance, it's best to have a clear image of what you would like done to your hair. While you may think dyeing it blonde means going two shades lighter, your stylist could have a completely different perspective. As any stylist will tell you, having a photo of what you want helps them tremendously. Wondering what else you should do before your next hair appointment? Here are seven salon etiquette tips that you need to know before your next appointment.

1. Book In Advance

salon visit day

Unless your salon explicitly encourages walk-ins, make sure to book your appointment in advance. Many stylists rarely have appointment times available the same day or even the same week that you're calling. Stylists tend to schedule appointments in advance for color touch ups or special events. If you're needing an appointment around prom or any holiday seasons, then I suggest booking an appointment at least a month ahead of time. Salons are absolutely crazy during those times of year.

2. Know The Lingo

salon visit day

Don't ask for what you think is trendy — ask for what you want. While styles like balayage , babylights , and sombre all sound fancy, be sure to really understand what those words mean before you ask for them. You don't want to be disappointed with your hairstyle, because you didn't know the lingo. When in doubt, it's always best to bring a photo.

3. Know What You Want

salon visit day

Saying that you "just need a change" doesn't let your stylist know what type of change that you want. A short cut? A drastic color change? A few more layers? Before your next appointment, do a bit of research on what you would like to do to your hair. If you aren't sure how to communicate it, then (I can't express this enough) bring in a photo or two. It's the easiest way to convey to your stylist exactly what you want.

4. Set Up A Consultation

salon visit day

Want to dye your hair a vivid color or try a crazy new haircut, but unsure how it may look? Set up a consultation with your stylist . These consultations usually take less than 10 minutes, and allows the two of you to work out the perfect plan for your style before your next hair appointment.

5. Plan Accordingly

salon visit day

When I schedule appointments, I always block off 45 minutes for a woman's haircut and two hours for color application. In my experience, however, every stylist uses different techniques for different hair types, so timing a haircut isn't always an exact art . So, when it comes to planning your day around your hair appointment, always plan a little wiggle room.

6. Make Arrangements

salon visit day

Do you have a pet, grandmother, or long-lost friend that you need to pick up during your appointment? Make sure to make the proper arrangements beforehand. You might think this is a no-brainer, I've seen many clients walk out mid-haircut to run various errands . Not only is this inconvenient for your hair, it's also quite inconvenient for your stylist.

7. Confirm Your Appointment

salon visit day

Oh, your hair appointment is for Tuesday at 1 PM? Are you sure? Really? Call and double-check before you come in. I can't even explain the number of times I've had to figure out a polite way to tell a client they may have written down the wrong date on their calendar, and that no, we can't squeeze them in now.

So, before your next appointment, help your stylist by being on-the-ball. It's the best thing that you can do for your hair.

Salon Etiquette: How to Prep Your Hair for Your Appointment

salon visit day

Nirvana's "Come As You Are" may be a staple on your '90s throwback playlist on Spotify, but don't take the message to heart if you're heading to the salon, and haven't washed your hair in about a week. Many assume since you'll be getting the lather, rinse, and repeat prior to getting your hair done, that it's fine to roll in with dirty strands, but this actually makes the consultation process harder, says hairstylist Mirna Jose.

"When you're having a consultation and we're talking about what you want to do with your hair, I can't wash it—I have to look at it dry when you come in," she tells InStyle . "Unless I already know you and I know what you want, I have to see it dry, and I have to be able to feel it." Of course, second or third-day hair is totally fine, but Jose recommends not going over a week, easing up on the product before coming in, and brushing through any stubborn tangles. "Try to come with your hair detangled. The knots take forever for your stylist to remove, and it's painful for both of you to deal with," she says, laughing. "You're gonna be crying, and it takes time away from the appointment, which shuold be spent styling your hair or giving you a great haircut."

The same rules apply when it comes to getting your color done. "The reason you need to come with your hair unwashed when it comes to color is that you can sometimes scratch your scalp," she explains. "Color is a chemical treatment, and anytime a chemical treatment touches a sore or scratch on your scalp, it will burn. The color itself doesn't burn, but if it makes contact with a scratch, it's going to hurt." Skip the shampoo a few days prior, but again, make sure it's manageable enough for your stylist. "You personally know when your hair is too dirty, so if you touch your hair and feel anything other than dry shampoo, wash it out a few days before your appointment," Jose advises. We get it—sometimes life gets the best of you, and you don't have time to lather up prior to your salon visit, but if your strands are bordering on X-Tina levels of "Dirrty," consider giving the person shampoing you a slightly larger tip than you normally would.

How to get the most out of your hair appointment before, during, and after your visit.

Have you ever entered a salon feeling less than confident? Or, worse, have you left a salon feeling downright terrible about your new ‘do? Then you’re not alone.

In fact, one in five American women have reported crying after leaving a salon due to being unhappy with their hairstyle. How can you avoid this fate? Easy!

Below, our stylists  here at Changes Salon have provided some of the best advice, tips, and tricks so that you can get the most out of your hair appointment before, during, and after your salon visit.

need a hair appointment? We share tips for the best results

Before Your Hair Appointment

Do your research and come prepared.

We all know that bringing a reference photo with you is a great way to share your vision with your hairstylist. But don’t stop at just one photo!

Most stylists agree—the more pictures you bring, the better idea they have about what you’re going for. You’re not going to be magically transformed into the celebrity in your reference photo, but if you give your stylist options, they can determine how to translate what you love about any look to best fit you. One easy way to get it right without bringing along an entire photo album is to make sure you find images that incorporate all three aspects you’re looking for (cut, color, styling) in one ‘do. Federica , one of our stylists here at Changes, urges clients to bring in photos and “identify what it is you love about each.”

You can also check out our FAQs page for more information before your visit—from parking to amenities, products to rewards programs, you can find out much more.

But Not Too Prepared!

Do your research before you come in and be prepared to discuss what you want. But don’t forget, you’ve come to the salon to be helped by an expert . As with any service involving extensive expertise, there must be give and take—and at some point, you have to take comfort in the fact that the stylist knows what they’re doing! Don’t be afraid to speak up if something is going extremely off course (i.e. your desired side-sweeping bangs are quickly becoming an early-aughts baby-bangs nightmare) but beyond that, don’t be afraid to sit back and relax.

Mona , who specializes in razor cutting and sun-kissed highlights here at Changes Salon, states it simply: “I love open communication with my guests, that’s how we’ll all get to where we want to be! But that being said, I will also tell you if something won’t work, but we’ll get through it together!”

hair appointment tips changes salon and day spa

Respect Your Time, and Your Stylist’s Time

Some things take way longer than others, such as highlights or color services involving bleach, may need extra time booked. If possible, when booking your appointment, let the receptionist know what you’d like done so the appropriate amount of time can be booked. Indecisive? Don’t worry! Just let them know that you’re not sure ahead of time, and they can book you for a complimentary consultation first.

TIP: Let the guest service team know at the time of booking if you’ve recently colored your hair at home or have long/thick hair as this may require extra booking time.

During your hair appointment , don’t be afraid to communicate .

Much like going to a doctor, you’ll get the best results if you’re open, honest, and communicative with your stylist. And like with your doctor, they’ll probably figure out if you’re holding back anyway . For example, if you bleach your hair excessively, it’s going to break, so don’t hesitate when telling the stylist all about your hair-history. They’ve seen it all and are not here to judge! Hairstylists are there to make you happy at the end of the day, so don’t be afraid to tell them your concerns, all about your daily routine, and whatever else will help them do the best job they can.

As our stylist Mona suggests, “Be open to change, be honest, and trust the process!”

After Your Appointment

We’ve all been there—you float out of the stylist’s seat feeling like the goddess of good-hair-days and BAM you wake up the next morning unable to recreate that same magic. But don’t worry—the stylists at Changes are dedicated to empowering you with the knowledge and products you need to make every day that best hair day.

salon visit day

In fact, if your stylist isn’t asking you about your daily routine and helping you understand how to best maintain your style once you get home, then they’re not doing their whole job!

As Arie maintains, “I always explain to the client what to use and how to use it to take care of their hair at home to stay beautiful every day. If your stylist isn’t doing this, ASK them about how to achieve your look at home.”

Jasmin explains that the three best things you can do for prolonging a color service are:

  • Do not wash your hair in the first 48 hours of getting your color service.
  •  Protect your investment! Are you booking c olor services? Help your color stay vibrant longer by using professional products to care for it.

3. When you wash your hair , try to avoid using hot water!

You can check out more tips from us on how to maintain your hair color for longer here .

And don’t forget, healthy hair is beautiful hair. Beyond cuts, color, and styling, Changes Salon offers conditioning treatments and Wellaplex treatments to strengthen and protect your hair.

Feeling confident? Ready to take all your new knowledge and get that hair looking its best? Book an appointment with us.

How to Craft a 5-Star Salon Experience for Clients

' src=

Wondering how to craft the ultimate hair salon experience for your clients? From hot tea to appointment reminders, there are a handful of ways to get your customers excited and help them feel the love.

In this article, we’re breaking down the top tips for creating a memorable salon visit — and a lasting impression. Here are 10 ways to pamper your customers and keep them feeling their best from the moment they book your services.

1. Provide Automated Booking Confirmations

Looking to craft that 5-star salon experience right from the get-go? As soon as your potential clients click “book”, kick things off wi th an automated booking confirmation. Automated booking confirmations are one of the top hair salon trends for a variety of reasons.

  • They keep things organized for both you and your client, particularly if you incorporate an “event” to add to phone and computer calendars.
  • They decrease the chance of confusion that can happen with online booking (i.e. anxiety from you or the client that the booking did not go through).
  • Clients can book on their own time and don’t have to worry about calling you past hours.
  • Overall, automated booking confirmations give beauty professionals time back to better care for their customers.

Fun fact for StyleSeat Professionals : When you book clients on your StyleSeat calendar, they will automatically receive a booking confirmation through email or text, depending on your preferences.

2. Send Appointment Reminders

Life gets busy. And whether your client has booked a manicure or a haircut, appointment reminders are always appreciated! You can customize how you’d like to set up your appointment reminders — email or text, 24 hours vs. 48 hours, but however you do so, this is another nice step to show your clients you care.

Plus, as a salon owner, appointment reminders can help to decrease your likelihood of no-shows. After all, things happen, and it’s easy for even the most loyal customers to forget an appointment now and then.

Fun fact for StyleSeat Professionals: In addition to a booking confirmation, when you book clients on your StyleSeat calendar, your clients will also get an automatic appointment reminder 48 hours before the appointment time.

3. Offer Complimentary Consultations

There’s a reason why a good high-end salon offers complimentary consultations — they quickly help to build rapport among you and your potential client!

Plus, they enhance the client experience and ensure that when the time comes, they won’t come out of the shampoo bowl with a hair color that’s not what they expected. The same scenario can be used for everything from nails, eyelash extensions, to lash perms .

A thorough consultation shows your client that you mean business and that you’re ready to provide top-n otch service. While complimentary consultations are great, it’s still important that you learn how to calculate salon service prices and stay transparent with your clients about pricing so they know what to expect when it’s time to pay.

4. Prepare for Existing Clients

When you’re crafting the salon experience , one of the most important things you can do is prepare for your existing clients. Coming into a salon or receiving salon treatments can be a special and luxurious occasion for clients.

The key is to make you r customers feel valued and remembered. If it’s hard to keep track of client details — where they live, whether or not they have kids, what their profession is — keep a notepad or document on your computer. Jot some notes down that refresh your memory before their next appointment.

It’s also helpful to be attentive to your existi ng clients’ needs. Maybe there are some recent cuts of celebrities they’d like to show you or a product they want to learn more about. Let them know you’re all ears and always ready to go the extra mile.

5. Offer Refreshments

Does anything scream the ultimate hair salon experience more than a refreshment while you wait for your foils? If you really want to pamper your clients to a day of luxury, offer them a beverage while they wait.

Better yet, offer them a beverage menu! Here are some beverage suggestions.

  • Coffee bar : We’re talking coffee in real cups with a little saucer to go along with it. A selection of some syrups takes things to the next level — think pumpkin spice during the fall and peppermint during the winter — and a variety of sugars is always appreciated.
  • Tea selection : Tea is all about the presentation and the selection. Find a nice wooden box or glass Canister to display your herbal offerings and maybe even some vintage teacups (you can often find these for incredible deals if you’re willing to spend a little time thrifting).
  • Sparkling water : If you have a refrigerator available, some sparkling water — perhaps with a slice of lemon — will take your salon experience to the next level.

6. Refer to your Client by Their Name

Clients understand that you have your hands full. But if you want to make them feel special, you’re going to have to play the name game! Referring to your client by their name is part of what makes them feel valued.

Here are some easy memory hacks to keep your names straight:

  • Focus : When your client is in your salon chair, really try to focus on them. This will help you match the face to the name along with all those little life details.
  • Mnemonic devices : The phrase “mnemonic devices” can be hard to remember in and of itself. But essentially, when you’re dealing with a tough client name, break it down into syllables, then craft a phrase that helps you to remember.
  • Study your spreadsheet : At StyleSeat, we help you import your client list into an easy-to-follow spreadsheet. With a little spreadsheet studying, you’ll be more likely to remember clients’ names. Plus, you’ll have them all nice and organized in one handy place.

7. Compliment Your Clients

Does your client look good? Well, then tell them! Part of the hair salon experience — and one of the reasons our StyleSeat Pros do what they do — is because they love making clients shine from the inside, out.

Whether you’re a colorist, a stylist, or both, you work wonders at making your clients feel good. A good cut and color, after all, can leave us feeling like we rule the world.

So, hand out those compliments. They’re free. They’re contagiously fun. And they go a long way in building relationships and rapport.

8. Give Tips for Future Maintenance or Styling

Similar to a chef guiding a client through a cooking class on how to make homemade pasta, you are the master of your trade. It takes a long time to get where you are in the cosmetology industry, and with that, comes loads of experience.

Clients will be looking to you for tips and tricks as to how to keep their hair looking its best. Do you have a product you love, like a dry shampoo, scalp treatment, or leave-in conditioner that won’t strip away hair color? How about a roller brush or hairdryer that doesn’t wick away all the natural sheen of your client’s hair?

Giving your customers tips for future maintenance or styling is just another easy way to craft the salon experience and add value to your services.

9. Send a Thank You Text or Email

A little thank you goes a long way in the beauty industry. After your client’s appointment, take a moment to shoot them a quick thank you text or email. If you really want to go the extra step, popping a thank-you card in the mail during the holiday season or for a client’s birthday can be fun, too.

Digital thank-you notes also offer a good place to promote your social media accounts or ask for a positive review for your StyleSeat profile. Worried that asking for reviews won’t seem authentic or genuine? Don’t be! It’s all part of the business and in most cases, your clients will be happy to put the good word in about their positive salon experience .

10. Provide a Loyalty Program

Loyalty programs are fun across all industries, but especially when it comes to the beauty industry. Here are a few of our favorite loyalty programs, all of which will help with the salon experience .

  • Punch card : With each treatment, a client gets a “punch”. After five punches, the 6th service is free!
  • Rewards : Free makeup application? Complimentary retail product? Bonus cut with their color service? The choice for how to pamper your clients is yours!
  • Email list: When clients sign up for your email list, you can prompt them through to become part of your loyalty program. This is a good way to send out holiday discounts, new year promotions, and birthday specials.

11. Have a Customer-First Attitude

Ultimately, having a positive outlook and an upbeat attitude will help you create a stress-free, uplifting hair salon experience . We all have a rough day every so often, but in the beauty industry, it’s always helpful to think of the customer first.

A big part of having a customer-first attitude, for example, is being willing to listen. In a blog we wrote on what clients value most , we noted that according to our data, clients value emotional support as much as professional talent. Top professionals — meaning those who had an average 4.96 rating in over 74 reviews — had reviews that highlighted the following traits: personable, passionate, and good listener.

From attitude to automated booking confirmations, these tips will all help to move you forward in crafting that stellar 5-star salon experience ! If you haven’t already, make sure to sign up for free on StyleSeat and streamline the salon experience for both you and your lovely, loyal customers.

10 Beauty Appointments You Should Make Before Your Wedding Day

Bride smiling on her wedding day

We're here, of course, to get you as prepared as possible for your wedding day—and even if aesthetics aren't that important to you, you might want to consider booking the below beauty appointments before your "I dos" (not only so you feel as confident as possible on your day, but also so you love every single photo). For the record, we think you'll look beautiful no matter what—but here are some appointments you may not want to skip.

1. Dermatologist

No matter what your skin issues might be, visiting your dermatologist will help ensure your skin's on track before your wedding. Whether you're dealing with adult acne, psoriasis or just plain, old dull combination skin, your doctor can work with you to determine the best skincare routine for your skin type. A trusted derm can also be the one you call to zap the zit with a cortisone shot if an unexpected blemish pops up the day before your wedding.

2. Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a splurge, but the thought of never having to shave again is probably worth it. Plan accordingly and get it far enough in advance before your wedding—it takes about four to six treatments for the procedures to be effective—and you'll be hair free on your honeymoon.

It sounds cliché, we know, but your smile really is your best accessory on your wedding day. Schedule an appointment with your dentist for a quick teeth whitening and deep clean.

4. Hair Colorist

If you're highlighting or coloring your hair before your wedding, it's important to start early. Book a hair consultation three to six months before your wedding to talk to your colorist about your vision. It's also a good idea to bring any examples of hair accessories you plan on wearing so your colorist can determine the best spot to place highlights.

5. Hairstylist

Obviously, there are tons of options when it comes to your day-of hairstyle. and your stylist can walk you through all of them. It's customary to visit your stylist for a hair trial a few month before your wedding, but for even better results, you can take it a step further. Visit your stylist twice—once for a cut and once for a style. It'll give your stylist the chance to familiarize themselves with your hair type and help you brainstorm the best style for you.

French tip wedding manicure ideas

6. Facialist

This one isn't exactly a beauty necessity, but a nice facial is a prewedding ritual (and treat) we highly recommend. Schedule an appointment for two or three weeks before your wedding if you plan on getting something for the first time (since you won't know how your skin will react) or something harsh like microdermabrasion (since it tends to leave your face red for a few days). If you're just planning on a soothing treatment that you've gotten before, the week of is fine.

7. Makeup Trial

It can take a few tries before your makeup artist totally nails your ideal beauty look, so don't be discouraged. Make sure you set aside a few hours with them and bring lots of beauty inspiration to look at together. It's also important that you're specific: matte or dewy? Bronzy or smoky eye? Don't leave anything out—and if it doesn't look right, speak up. They'd rather you be honest so they can fix it.

8. Hair Extensions

Want to give your updo a little bit of something extra on your wedding day? Extensions could be for you. First, do your research to determine which type you want—clip-ins, tape or keratin bonds. Then call your salon to see if they offer extension services and actual extensions or if you have to provide your own. If you do have to provide your own, it's a good idea to bring them to your other hair appointments so your stylist or colorist can get familiar with them.

9. Tanning Salon

To tan or not to tan? It's totally up to you, but a subtle glow on your wedding day might be just what you're looking for. (Just picture how gorgeous your glow will look against your white gown.) You can make an appointment at a salon for a spray tan with an aesthetician—they'll know how to give your body the perfect coat of bronze that doesn't look orange, streaky or fake.

10. Manicurist

Save this particular salon visit for a day or two before your wedding—your options run the gamut, and you want to make sure they look as fresh as possible on your wedding day.

How to Maintain Your Hair Between Salon Visits

October 31st, 2020

Beauty Blog

start today

Next class starts may 13th.

Although you probably go to a salon on a regular basis to maintain the health of your hair, that doesn’t necessarily mean a salon visit is the only way you can make sure your hair is as healthy as possible. There are many things you can do to maintain the health of your hair even if you’re unable to go to the salon for a period of time. Here are a few things you may want to take into consideration as you maintain a home hair health routine.

1. Wash Your Hair Around Twice a Week

Are you used to washing your hair every day? This might not be the right choice for you. Washing your hair is incredibly important for removing buildup and debris on your scalp, but it also strips away a lot of the natural oils you have on your scalp. This can lead to more buildup in the future. Most people only need to wash their scalp once or twice per week.

2. Use Cool Water for Washing and Rinsing

When you use warm water to wash and rinse your hair, you’re typically going to end up with more of an astringent effect than if you use cool water. Although you don’t necessarily have to take cold showers every morning, it is a good idea to turn down the warm water every time you go to wash your hair so you can avoid drying it out.

3. Apply a Deep Conditioning Mask Every So Often

A deep conditioning mask is a great way to maintain your hair’s health and softness. With a deep conditioning mask, you can achieve more health throughout your hair. Deep conditioning masks can include all sorts of ingredients, which may be able to moisturize and maintain your hair. Typically, you’ll want to apply a conditioning mask once every week or two for best results.

4. Use the Right Brush

Choosing the right brush is crucial when it comes to maintaining your hair’s health. You don’t want to use a fine-toothed comb to brush your hair when it’s wet, for example. If you have to brush your hair at all when it’s wet, you should make sure you use a boar bristle brush. Using the right brush will make it much easier to manage your hair’s health and avoid unnecessary tearing.

5. Avoid Heat Treatments

This is something you probably already know, but it’s worth pointing out. You should avoid heat treatments whenever possible, especially if you’re not getting them through an expert. This is even more true when you’re not going to the salon very often; because heat treatments can be so damaging, you only want to do them when you’re caring for your hair completely.

6. Invest in Quality Products

If you want the highest-quality hair, you need to make sure you have the highest-quality products. That’s why it’s so important for you to maintain the quality of your products at all times. Attending a clinical salon at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture can be a great way to make sure you have those quality products. An investment in quality products will ensure your hair’s quality for years to come.

These are all great ways to maintain your hair health. Although a salon is certainly one of the best ways you can make sure you have healthy hair at all times, the fact is that it’s not always possible to go to a salon every few weeks. Take these tips and tricks into consideration and you’ll be much more likely to have healthier hair at all times.

Making the Time for Your Salon Visit

Solutions for Your Excuses

salon visit day

Excuse #1: I Live a Busy Lifestyle and can't Find Time

It sure is busy; I can't seem to find the time to get all the things done that I need to in one day. I probably need about 48 hours in a day as opposed to 24, but you know what, that still wouldn't work because then I would try and cram more into a day and need 54 hours. Where do we draw the line? We need to prioritize our time and start doing the important things first and then in that order. Having time for a new hairstyle is important. It will make you feel better for a start and you should make it your "time out"! You are missing out here, big time.

Solution : You need to re-prioritize yourself and time to include hairstyling as your "time out." Make the time!

Excuse #2: I Have More Important Things to Do

We all have important things to do all of the time including any spare time that we have. Still, some people seem to find the time to go to the salon for some R & R. Perhaps you are not real big on small talk or sitting around with wet hair when you have about 20 other things that you could be doing. Aren't there always about 20 things that need doing? Over the years I have had the pleasure of performing hairstyle services for all different types of people and personalities. There were the clients that just wanted to chat and tell you all of their problems, to the ones that just wanted to sit quietly read a magazine and have a cup of coffee. The one thing that they all had in common was that they used this time (salon hairstyle time) as their time out from their usually busy lifestyle and daily commitments. There is a genuine therapy that occurs when you visit a salon and stylist that you are comfortable and familiar with. Also, another bit of therapy that occurs is simply when your hairstylist runs their comb and fingers through your hair that creates massaging movements. And then, let's not forget the wonderful head massage you should get at the shampoo chair.

Solution : Having your hair done is important; it's your "time out" and therapeutic time. You need to make the time and then relax and enjoy the experience.

Excuse #3: I Would Like to Make the Time, but...

There is a saying that goes "timing is everything". Isn't this true? Think about it, isn't that what good luck is supposed to be when you are in the right place at the right time? Funny thing time, it's the same for everyone the world over yet some people find the time to sit down relax and enjoy a hairstyle service along with a lot of other things. Is it that these people just don't take care about all the things that you attend to and leave you out of time? Or are these people just better at organizing and prioritizing and then managing their time? I will tell you that most of them are just good at managing their time. Over the years I have employed quite a number of hairstylists, and I can tell you that each and every one of them was given the same amount of time, space assistance and tools to perform their job. I can divide these employees up into 3 even groups, the first that just barely got through their work, always running late working under some degree of pressure. The second group got things done on time, while the last group did up to 3 times as much work. Sure they were motivated but not more than the first group in my opinion. They were just able to make better use of their time even though they had the same amount of time and help as their peers.

To organize your time better you could begin by keeping a diary and write down in point form what you plan to do for the day. Now as you move through your day, tick off the list. You will be surprised how much more you will achieve when you have a plan and map to get you where you are going. Oh, and don't try and over do it.

Solution : You need to create a point form list of things that require doing and then mark them off as you go. This will help you to organize your time better and then to make it to the salon for your relaxing time.

Having the right attitude and approach about making time for your salon hairstyling visits is one of the best and most rewarding things that you can do for yourself, your well being and your hair. So, go on, give these solutions and go. It's your time out so relax and enjoy it.

5 Mistakes Not To Make Before A Hair Appointment, According To A Stylist

For your best haircut and experience, heed these stylist-approved warnings.

Minimize Hair Products

Bring pictures, keep your hair type in mind.

  • Don't Fib About Your Hair History

Leave The Hoodie At Home

Being unprepared for a hair appointment is a gamble only a few brave individuals take. On a great day, all goes well. On a not-so-fabulous day, you could leave unsatisfied with the final look. If you choose to show up unprepared for your trip, pre-cut and pre-color proceedings at the salon can be fraught with potential misgivings. Luckily, we have tips straight from the stylist's mouth to help you get your most flattering strands.

Aside from the core tenets of salon etiquette —arrive on time, tip appropriately , keep off the phone—other guidelines don't necessarily fall under the basics. Here are five things to know before your next hair appointment, according to a stylist.

Leza Duncan is an Alabama-based hair stylist and trained industry professional.

It's generally not ideal to arrive with heavy product build-up from styling your hair the day of your appointment, especially if you're getting a dry cut or highlights before washing. It can cause hair color to go on unevenly and affect how your hair stylist evaluates your pre-cut hair type and texture. Leza Duncan, a hair stylist based in Birmingham, Alabama, gave us a welcome exception: "It's fine to use products you normally use for your everyday blow-dry, but stay away from a lot of hairspray."

Perhaps the number one salon rule to remember: Always bring tangible inspiration that details your vision clearly and objectively. Describing the type of layers or shade of color you're looking for can be difficult, and the stylist might imagine your words differently. A picture is worth a thousand words. Don't worry. We have all the options to get you started.

Duncan adds: "Be prepared to really communicate with your stylist about what does and does not work for your hair. Start with a length you want, and find pictures of looks you could see yourself loving."

Someone with thin or super fine hair might benefit from one cut, while someone with thick or curly hair might prefer a different cut. Bring in inspirational photos to show your stylist that are plausible for your hair thickness and texture. Additionally, be open-minded if your stylist recommends specific tweaks to your inspiration that will suit your hair type better. Odds are, any vision you have can be achieved to fit your head of hair, but it might take some flexibility to get there. Some typical flourishes can be easily adapted to suit different hair types: layers, bangs, and length.

Don't Fib About Your Hair History

The same way in which you shouldn't lie to your doctor about symptoms or habits in order to get the best care, be open and honest with your stylist. As in, they know if you have used boxed hair dye at home , so don't fib. The truth will come out as soon as they begin putting color over the boxed dye. It'll be much more beneficial to your final result if you are upfront about what you have done along with your hair goals.

When you're about to spend hours in the salon chair, it's natural to want to be comfortable. However, skip the hoodie sweatshirt. The hood on the back gets in the way of cutting, coloring, and washing. To guarantee your best service, wear a crewneck style instead. Plus, you don't accidentally want to take home locks of cut hair.

These snippets of salon advice will help prepare you for successful strands at your next appointment.

At-home hair color: what to do between appointments + natural dye.

Alexandra Engler

This should come as no surprise, but it will likely be a moment until you're able to visit your salon or colorist again for a touch-up. If you are one to regularly color your hair, this might have you feeling less than ideal. Of course, there are plenty of things going on right now that demand more of our attention, but how you feel about yourself matters. And your hair color might play a role in that.

"It's important, and it gives you confidence," says colorist Christine Thompson, co-founder of the hair salon Spoke&Weal . "There's definitely a realization now that even if you are at home—perhaps by yourself or not being seen by a lot of people—how important the way you see yourself is on the way you feel. It's a psychological thing. I always knew that, but it's being reinforced right now."

Couldn't agree more. So, now the question is: What do we do in the interim?

If your roots don't bother you that much, it's worth the wait.

Most colorists will advise waiting it out if new growth at the root or overall tonal changes don't bother you that much. This is especially true if you've never colored at home before. "If you mess something up, there will be no professional available to fix it, so you might end up making your situation worse than before," says Thompson.

Not to mention, there are things other than dyes to help you in the interim. You may think you're in desperate need of a color update when a simple refresh would suffice: In these instances, turn to toners. "Hair toner" is more-or-less an umbrella term to encompass products like glosses, color-correcting shampoos, pigment-depositing treatments, and demi-permanent dyes. These will be able to bring vibrancy back to your hair or help blend harsh grow-out lines. They do not have the same long-wear as hair color, but their low-stakes nature makes them perfect for an at-home trial. See our list below for further details—you can also check out our list of DIY at-home toners .

If you do opt for a dye, err on the side of natural in both the shade and formula.

If the new growth really does bother you, and you decide it's time to turn to at-home color, there are thankfully new, cleaner, and safer versions available (our recs, below). So the first step is to purchase a box dye that doesn't have many of the more questionable dye ingredients —although, no hair dye is going to be perfectly natural or clean—in your closest possible color match. This isn't the time to be experimenting with a new hue. (Or if you really do want to experiment with color right now, we suggest using one that washes out easily; see our suggestion below.)

When you actually go about dyeing the hair, we recommend the following guidelines:

  • Always follow the included instructions—like wearing gloves, time the formula should be on the hair, and so forth. Instructions are there for a reason.
  • Color your hair in a well-ventilated area, notes Thompson. Even if your dye doesn't have ammonia, it can still be irritating to inhale, especially if you are sensitive to strong scents.
  • Don't bother coloring all over, and only touch up the areas that need it. This should include your hairline, part, and nape of the neck if you wear your hair up frequently.
  • If it's only a few patches of gray that you're concerned about, only spot-treat those areas.

Finally, if you are able financially, please consider reaching out to your colorist and offering support at this time.

The best clean products for at-home color.

Here are some great options to help you between appointments.

Revlon Total Color Clean + Vegan Nourishing Cream Formula

Even drugstore box hair dye has made the step toward cleaner formula. This new option nixes ammonia, mineral oils, phthalates, and parabens and is infused with hemp oil to condition stands during application. The set also comes with an after-color gloss that includes specific botanicals based on the shade: For example, dark brunette has black tea extract, medium brown has sesame oil, cranberry for redheads, and chamomile for blondes.

Madison Reed Semi-Permanent Color-Reviving Gloss

A relative newcomer to the beauty space, Madison Reed has made a splash for their super clean yet totally efficacious color options, both in the salon and at home. (Their formulas do not include PPD, ammonia, parabens, phthalates, and more, but they do include keratin, argan oil , and ginseng extract.) Their color-depositing glosses will remove unwanted undertones all over and help blend lines and increase shine. This specific gloss will not cover grays; however, the brand does offer many other color treatments that do.

Christophe Robin Temporary Color Gel

A perfect option for those who just need to touch up grays at the root. This temporary color gel glides on effortlessly (with the help of the brush), so you only need to zero in on the hairs you want to cover. Then the super natural shades blend in so gently with the rest of your hair color. It's also free of resorcinol, peroxide, PPD, parabens, silicones, oxidants, phthalates, mineral oils, and ammonia.

Temporary Color Gel , Christophe Robin ($35)

ColorWow Dream Filter

This option makes the list for what it removes rather than adds on. The innovative product actually penetrates the hair shaft to remove color-altering and dulling minerals, pollution, buildup, and so on. Simply saturate your hair with the spray, let it sit for three minutes, and then wash it out with shampoo and conditioner as normal. The result? It will look like brand-new color. While the brand doesn't market themselves as clean or natural, we evaluated the ingredient list and it checks out.

Dream Filter , ColorWow ($24)

Overtone Coloring Conditioner

So if the curiosity about experimenting with your look has taken over, appease that desire with a nice gentle formula—that will easily rinse out if you realize it's not for you. Overtone's options come in many-a-hue and have better-for-you ingredients too. They also rinse out after a few showers. But if you decide you love your new look? Well, all you need to do is continue using the conditioner after shampooing.

Coloring Conditioner , Overtone ($29)

TruHair Color & Lift

Now let's say your grays or roots don't bother you that much—especially if the general public isn't seeing them—but you just want to cover them up for a Zoom meeting, perhaps. In that case, just cover it up with powder. This option easily deposits pigmented powder at the roots and hairline to blend grays and lines—then rinses off in the shower after.

Together Beauty Black Bird Shampoo

This natural hair care line is one of our favorites . All the products are at least 90% natural and omit all the normal "no" ingredients. While they do not carry hair color options, their color-care products are very, very good. This shampoo is made with black rice to give it that inky hue—using it regularly will keep your dye job vibrant. For blondes, they also carry a rich purple option, which will cancel out brassiness.

5 Great Ideas for Mother’s Day Salon Promotions

Featured image for 5 Great Ideas for Mother’s Day Salon Promotions post

Mother’s Day has been recognized as a national holiday since 1914, and this year? Mothers worldwide have done extra duty throughout the coronavirus pandemic, often holding down full-time jobs from dining room tables while also administering school and planning for dinner.

It’s a great time to show moms some love and get some clients back in the door with some super Mother’s Day Special Events! From special Mom’s Only Events to running an online photo + essay contest on your social media channels, this holiday is ripe for promotions.

Keep reading for five awesome salon promotion ideas to use in the run up to Mother’s Day this year

1. Mother / Daughter Discounts

Everyone LOVES a great deal. Running a promotion for mothers and daughters is a great way to increase visits to your salon, and it also shows that you honor that special parent-child bond. You could designate one day in the week before Mother’s Day where mothers get free services if they’re accompanied by a daughter who is receiving the same service. This could be a great enticement for first-time visitors, so be ready with a strategy to encourage rebooking or automatically enroll them in your loyalty program .

You might consider giving these first timers a voucher at the end of their visit (20% your visit next month), be sure to add them to your mailing list, or capture social media handles. Other options include a free treatment for any mother who visits on a specific day, a voucher for daughters to give to their mom, or a special discount in the week leading up to Mother’s Day.

2. Host a Special Mother’s Day Event

Why not pull out all the stops this Mother’s Day?

Holding a special Mother’s Day event in the week prior is the perfect way to get people excited about visiting your salon. You could hold a themed event, like ‘Girls Only Slumber Party’, with face masks and manicures, or ‘Ultimate Mother’s Day Pampering’, including massages and facial treatments or a ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ salon dance party. Try to plan events that mothers will enjoy attending with their daughters or friends since most won’t want to celebrate Mother’s Day alone!

You could even plan special events where teen daughters get a free makeover while Mom enjoys some much-needed pampering. Get creative and think outside the box, and be sure to promote your events widely online, and to existing customers – and use referral discounts to get your best customers to bring in their friends.

3. Gift Bags to Mothers

Looking for salon promotions that are simple and effective? Look no further.

Putting together a special Mother’s Day gift bag doesn’t take long, and is a great way to attract customers and keep your salon top of mind. Opt for a bag branded with your salon name (print your own stickers and apply them to stock gift bags if you’re short on time), and then fill them with product samples (ask your suppliers for help with this) and discount vouchers that encourage people to come back for more. Round it out with your newsletter, candy, a comb… it doesn’t take much.

Be sure to create some social media ads promoting your Mother’s Day gift bags – it might be the difference between a customer choosing your salon or visiting a competitor. If you’re struggling to get customers through the door, try giving out your gift bags in a public place, like the mall. People love freebies, and there’s a good chance they’ll be curious enough to check your salon out.

4. Social Media Giveaway

Looking for salon promotions to target Millennials struggling to find a way to treat their Mom on Mother’s Day?

Social media is THE place to do it.

It’s been shown that engagement often drives purchasing decisions in young people, so an interactive event, like a giveaway, is a great choice. You could create a giveaway that comes with a prompt or question, like, ‘Share This Post & Tag your Mom to Enter’, or, ‘Tell us Why Your Mom Deserves Pampering for a Chance to Win!’ You’ll see greater engagement on your social channels, get to promote your services, and see more customers through the door – what’s not to love?

If you’ve already got a large following on social media, you should get great results just by pushing your giveaway out on all your current channels. If you’re still working to increase your exposure, using paid promotions and social media ads to boost your posts is a smart move.

Facebook ads are a great option since they offer very specific personalization and localization options and allow you to set a budget before you start. For example, you could target mothers within a specific age range, who live within a few miles of your salon, and are interested in health and beauty. Social media is a powerful marketing tool – don’t ignore it.

mothers day social campaign

5. Promote Your Gift Card Offerings

The go-to last minute gift is a gift card.

So make sure you have plenty on hand in the weeks before Mother’s Day.

Busy people love having easy gift options, so you’ll want your gift card offerings front and center in your salon promotions and on your front desk. You could create special offers like, ‘Buy mom a $100 gift card and get $20 for yourself!’ This way, you encourage purchases and get two customers through your doors at once – hopefully leading to repeat visits.

Daysmart Salon e-gift card

You could also design special Mother’s Day themed gift cards, with messages like, ‘Best Mother’ or ‘Mom of the Year.’ Teaming up with other local businesses, like florists or card shops, is a good way to reach a wider audience. Most businesses will be more than happy to collaborate and offer joint special offers like, ‘Order flowers for mom and get a $25 salon gift card free’. Daysmart Salon customers have a dedicated team providing custom gift cards as well as e-gift cards, check it out here .

mothers day gift cards

Plan Your Salon Promotions!

Mother’s day is a huge event for salons, and planning the right promotions is essential if you want to make the most of this holiday. Encourage Millennials to treat their Moms with social media advertising, draw customers in with giveaways, create special offers for the holiday, and be sure to promote gift cards as an easy (and appreciated) gift!

To plan the best promotions for your salon, try to imagine your ideal customers. How old are they? Which marketing channels are they exposed to? How much are the likely to spend?

Even a simple customer profile will help you to make much better promotional decisions, which means you’ll get the most out of your marketing budget, even if it’s limited.

Sandy B.

As a first time customer I scheduled a Deluxe Facial with Danielle. I have experienced facials throughout the decades and Danielle, far exceeded my expectations! She is extremely knowledgeable and warm. Walking me through each step, educating me and answering my questions. I have already scheduled another treatment with her and looking forward to this experience! I highly recommend Danielle and Adora Day Spa!

Jessica D.

I came in for a Brazilian wax with Lisa. She was amazing. She is SUPER fast, makes it as painless as possible and was a great conversationalist. When I'm back in the area with more fuzz than I need, I'll be back to see her in a heartbeat. Thanks Lisa!!!

Christina M.

I would recommend Adora for facial laser treatment to everyone. I had a last minute consultation that resulted in my first v-beam therapy treatment. It was awesome! I had so many questions that were answered without hesitation. I had my appt on a Thursday, I know there are two different women that do laser treatments. If I were better with names, this review would be better. However, I'm sure both women are very knowledgeable.

Blake M.

I was looking to get a spray tan and am always a little nervous, but I was extremely satisfied! I needed one for a wedding on a Saturday and got the tan on a Thursday afternoon. The tan still looked great two days later!

Veronica P.

I received the deluxe signature facial as my first facial. It was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it. I have felt more relaxed for days afterwards.  My skin is so soft and glowy.  It's the first treatment or mask I've ever used that didn't cause break outs. Thank you!

Trump keeps begging for a "rally behind MAGA" — but his supporters aren't showing up to court

It's not just that fox news told them entering new york results in instant murder, by amanda marcotte.

Donald Trump can't decide how he wants his supporters to feel about the scene outside of the Manhattan courtroom where he's being tried on 34 felony indictments for election interference and business fraud. He repeatedly argues that the city he travels through in  a daily motorcade to his trial is a war zone. "Violent criminals that are murdering people, killing people" are free to "do whatever they want," he's falsely claimed, blasting District Attorney Alvin Bragg as "lazy on violent crime" because he's supposedly too focused on prosecuting Trump.

It's all a lie — crime is way down from the pandemic-related spikes — but it's one Trump repeats ad nauseam. And it's constantly reinforced by Fox News, which pushes out a series of misleading stories and images meant to scare their elderly suburbanite audiences into believing that going into the nation's largest city results in instant murder. Nonetheless, Trump keeps pleading with his followers to run through what they've been told is a "bloodbath" in order to, you know, persuade Bragg and presiding Judge Juan Merchan to just give up on this whole trial nonsense.

On Monday, Trump begged his followers on Truth Social to "RALLY BEHIND MAGA" at courthouses, unsubtly suggesting that they model themselves after the mostly imaginary leftist rioters who "scream, shout, sit, block traffic, enter buildings, not get permits, and basically do whatever they want." When the MAGA hats failed to show, Trump tried to inspire them with a post complaining that it's "SO UNFAIR!!!" that he doesn't get throngs of people like the kind seen at the antiwar protest a few miles north at Columbia University . Other than a few scattered people with pro-Trump signs, the mob he longed for never showed. So he took his pleas to the cameras outside the courthouse Tuesday morning:

Want more Amanda Marcotte on politics? Subscribe to her newsletter Standing Room Only .

What's especially funny about all this is that Trump can't quite admit that his people just aren't showing up, and keeps on blaming the barricades and the cops. His lies got to the level of childish make-believe on Tuesday afternoon, as  he falsely claimed on Truth Social that "Thousands of people were turned away from the Courthouse" while denying that he was "disappointed by the crowds." Of course, by fantasizing about a massive caravan rallied to his defense, he proved he is not satisfied with reality.

No matter what story Trump wants to tell, it's obvious what's happening: MAGA isn't there because they don't want to be.

As the  New York Times reported , "A day after Trump issued a call for more supporters to gather outside the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, the number reached its nadir. The number of identifiable Trump fans across the street in Collect Pond Park on Tuesday sank to the mid-single digits, after hovering at about a dozen for a week."

Trump's lies are about soothing his own ego, of course, but it also reads like a dare: C'mon, MAGA! Cops didn't stop you on Jan. 6!  And yet, they keep not showing up to protest Trump's criminal trial, peacefully or otherwise. It's not like anyone is stopping them, either. No matter what story Trump wants to tell, it's obvious what's happening: MAGA isn't there because they don't want to be.

Perhaps the reason is they really are too scared to go into the city, after imbibing years of lies that New York is a war zone. I'd wager it is mostly because, despite the horror show on Jan. 6, 2021, it turns out that most of MAGA is not actually as gung-ho to risk injury, prison or even death just because Dear Leader commands it.

One would think, even with the shrinking possibility that Trump could face trial this year for his attempted coup that led to the Capitol insurrection, that he might not blatantly try to order up a rampaging mob like it's a Diet Coke. Nor does it seem likely that causing more violence would help him win the 2024 election. It speaks to his justified fear that the evidence against him is overwhelming that he's grasping at this particular straw. Lucky for him, even people dumb enough to love Donald Trump are still smarter than he is, which is why they aren't rioting in the streets of Manhattan. Even the guy who died by suicide in front of the courthouse wasn't a Trump fan, but a  bespoke conspiracy theorist who thought "The Simpsons" are out to destroy the world.

There are two main reasons MAGA continues to ignore Trump's cries for crowds to mob the courthouse on his behalf. First of all, they don't think it would really change anything. Second, they don't see what's in it for them. Trump, who is unable to think about anyone but himself for even a second, hasn't bothered to persuade his followers that it would somehow benefit them to take such serious risks.

Lucky for him, even people dumb enough to love Donald Trump are still smarter than he is, which is why they aren't rioting in the streets of Manhattan.

On the second point, it's crucial to remember that while MAGA has cult-like properties and Trump is its leader, it isn't actually a cult of personality in the true sense. Fundamentally, it's a fascist movement focused on restoring an imagined past based on white supremacy and male dominance. Trump is the vehicle for his followers' grievances, not the other way around. His anger over losing the 2020 election resonated with them not because they pitied him, but because they pity themselves. They wanted to win that election too, and when he offered them a chance to steal it, they went for it, to protect their own egos more than his.

With the first of his four criminal cases, it's not really clear how demanding Trump's "right" to commit fraud and lie about adultery serves the larger goals of MAGA. Plus, a lot of Trump's appeal to his base is the aura of impunity he's woven around himself. They've been led to believe he's got near-magical abilities to wriggle out of legal trouble, so why should they doubt he can do it again? And why stick their own necks out to help?

As hard as it may be to believe, even Trump voters have some rationality and understanding of cause and effect. As a rule, even people who are enthusiastic about political violence aren't willy-nilly about such a serious undertaking. They want to know how the proposed act of violence will work to advance their political goals. Anti-abortion terrorists wanted to marginalize providers and scare other doctors out of the work. People who commit hate crimes are trying to drive people they hate out of their community. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols believed that bombing the Oklahoma Federal Building would draw attention and support for their white supremacist, far-right views. Decades later, Trump is winking at their terrorism publicly , so they weren't entirely wrong in their theory of the case, even as they were deeply evil.

We need your help to stay independent

Trump is not good at logistics or long-term planning. The only reason January 6 got as close as it did to working is that right-wing lawyers like John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro — both of whom have also been charged in Georgia for their roles in attempting to overturn the election — did all of the planning for him. They used social media and circulated memos to spread the word through MAGA that shutting down the election certification would give Trump and Republicans space to void the election and declare him president. It didn't work, but it was a plan.

Trump doesn't have other people plotting illegal ways to derail his trial. As such, it's not even clear to his followers what he expects of them. If they riot, perhaps they shut down the courtroom for a day, but then what? The trial will just resume when things have quieted down, perhaps at another location. Or perhaps Trump wants them to show up in en masse to scare the jury a little. But that is just as likely to backfire since the message sent to the jury would be that Trump is so guilty he is resorting to intimidation because he can't win honestly. Either way, Trump hasn't communicated, even through his wink-and-nod method, how he thinks his followers could change the outcome here. So they're staying put.

The good news is that it all suggests Trump is not a Svengali-type leader who can materialize a violent mob out of nothing. He really does need other people to draft his battle plans, recruit his foot soldiers, and communicate his wishes for him. Right now, he has no one to do that for him because, again, what's it in for them? People like Eastman and Chesebro were in on the coup because they're devoted fascists, not because of some great love of Trump. So they're not going to risk even more indictments to get him out of this particular pickle.

The bad news is that we still don't know how much enthusiasm still exists in MAGA world for effective political violence. On one hand, Republican leaders have grown even more aggressive about promoting political violence . On the other hand, some polling data shows that the wind is starting to seep out of the MAGA sails, especially as their leader continues to fall apart mentally under the pressure of prosecution. Security officials would be wise to assume we're not out of the woods yet and continue to have heightened vigilance against domestic terrorist threats. But if MAGA lashes out, they will not be doing it for Trump. They'll be doing it for themselves.

Amazon just announced Prime Day 2024 — what to know right now

Amazon Prime Day 2024 is happening this July, offering Prime members the chance to shop exclusive deals.

Amazon Prime Day is back for its 10th annual mega sale this July, allowing Prime members to shop exclusive deals on tech , travel accessories , kitchen gadgets , home products , pet supplies and more. The retailer has yet to confirm the exact dates of Prime Day and hasn’t shared many details about the event. Below, learn everything we know about Prime Day 2024 so far — we’ll continue updating you as we get more information.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon is hosting Prime Day 2024 in July. The retailer has not confirmed the exact dates of the event yet, but it’s typically a 48-hour sale. Prime Day usually takes place in mid-July — for example, Prime Day 2023 took place on July 11 and 12 and Prime Day 2022 took place on July 12 and 13.

According to Amazon, Prime Day 2024 is happening in over 20 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the U.S., and the UK.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s biggest sale of the year and it’s exclusive to Prime members. It’s typically a 48-hour sale during which brands discount products to some of their lowest prices of the year. Amazon has hosted Prime Day in the summer for the past two years and a second Prime Day-level mega sale in October.

Big retailers like Walmart , Target and Best Buy tend to host their sales around Prime Day. Other retailers have not announced details about their summer sales yet, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Who can shop on Prime Day?

Only Prime members get access to Amazon Prime Day deals.

What is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is the retailer’s loyalty program. A standard membership costs $139 a year or $15 a month, and new members get a 30-day free trial. Amazon also offers discounted student memberships and memberships for those who qualify for certain government assistance programs .

Benefits of a Prime membership include access to shop Prime Day deals and free, fast shipping, like free two-day, one-day and same-day delivery. Prime members also get a handful of streaming and entertainment perks, plus they can order groceries online through Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh .

Can you shop early Prime Day deals?

Yes, Prime members can shop for early deals as we get closer to the event. The best way to stay updated about early Prime Day deals is by downloading the Amazon app, which can notify you about sales in real-time.

What are the best deals to shop on Amazon Prime Day?

Products across all shopping categories are on sale during Prime Day, and shoppers won’t know exactly what’s available until the event starts. But looking at Prime Day bestsellers from previous years can give you a sense of the traditionally discounted items. For example, the most ordered items during Prime Day in July 2023 include the Amazon Fire TV Stick , Laneige Lip Glowy Balm , Apple AirPods , Bissell Little Green Portable Deep Cleaner and Alexa-enabled devices. Some of the best Prime Day discounts are Amazon’s Lightning Deals, flash sales that give shoppers a short window to purchase limited quantities of specific products.

Classic Promotions: Going Back to Basics

The beauty industry, much like fashion, often witnesses trends that come and go. However, certain promotional strategies have stood the test of time due to their effectiveness and universal appeal. These are the fundamental building blocks of salon marketing, and they can yield consistent results when executed properly. Let's explore these timeless classics:

Discount Days:

This is a tried-and-true method that never fails to attract customers. Designate specific days of the week or month as 'Discount Days'. Whether it's a 'Manicure Monday' with reduced prices on nail services or a 'Facial Friday' offering relaxation at a fraction of the price, these deals give clients a reason to mark their calendars.

Loyalty Programs:

Rewarding your regular customers for their continued patronage is a win-win. By offering a point-based system or a 'Buy 5, Get 1 Free' card, you're giving your clientele an incentive to return. It not only boosts repeat business but also strengthens the bond between the salon and its customers. You can easily do this with Noona HQ's series vouchers located in the sales tab.

Referral Discounts:

Word of mouth remains one of the most powerful tools in marketing. Encourage your satisfied customers to spread the word about your services. Offer them a discount or a free service when they refer a friend or family member. This not only brings in new clients but also makes your existing ones feel valued.

First-Time Visitor Discounts:

First impressions last. To make sure potential clients take that first step through your door, offer them an introductory discount. It can be a percentage off their first service or a complimentary add-on. The goal is to provide them with a taste of the quality and service you offer, enticing them to return.

Birthday Specials:

Everyone loves to be pampered on their birthday. Offering special deals or a free service for birthday folks can be a wonderful gesture. It not only brightens their day but also reminds them that your salon genuinely cares.

While these classic promotions might seem common, their success lies in the execution. Tailoring them to suit your salon's style, clientele, and local market nuances can amplify their effectiveness. Whether you're just starting out or have been in the business for years, returning to these foundational strategies can often reignite growth and client engagement.

Seasonal & Festival Offers:

As the seasons change, so do the needs and desires of your clientele. The transition from winter's dry chill to summer's sun-soaked days or the festive spark of the holiday season presents unique opportunities for salons to refresh their services and offer exclusive promotions. Tapping into these seasonal shifts and major festivals can create buzz and excitement around your salon's offerings. Here's how you can make the most of these natural cycles and celebrations:

Summer/Winter Specials:

The changing weather conditions of summer and winter present specific challenges for skin and hair. In the summer, think sun protection treatments, hydrating facials, or pool-protective hair treatments. Come winter, offer deep moisturizing treatments, hot oil hair therapies, or special packages that combat dry skin.

Holiday Packages:

During the festive season, everyone wants to look their best. Create tailored packages for occasions like Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, or Diwali. These could include glittery nail art, festive hairstyles, or party-ready makeup sessions. Offering bundled services at a discount can attract groups preparing for holiday parties or family gatherings.

Back-to-School Deals:

When the vacation ends and it's time to return to school or college, students (and teachers) are looking for fresh starts and makeovers. Offer special student discounts, quick and easy hairstyles, or skincare routines tailored for younger clientele.

Bridal Packages:

Wedding season, regardless of the month, always comes with a rush. Tailored bridal packages, including trials for hair, makeup, and nails, can be a hit. Don't forget about the bridal party! Offer group discounts or complementary services for bridesmaids or family members.

Themed Specials:

For unique seasons or festivals, like Halloween or Mardi Gras, offer themed services. Think pumpkin facials in October or vibrant, colorful hairstyles for spring festivals.

By aligning your promotions with the rhythm of the seasons and the energy of various festivals, you're not only addressing the current needs and desires of your clients but also adding an element of timely relevance to your services. It becomes an invitation for clients to visit, not just for their regular treatments, but to see what's new and exciting at your salon.

Partner & Collaborate:

In an interconnected business world, the adage "two heads are better than one" rings especially true. For salons, partnerships and collaborations offer a strategic way to tap into new customer bases, expand brand awareness, and bring added value to clients. By aligning with businesses or individuals whose services complement your own, you create a synergistic relationship that benefits all parties involved. Here's how to maximize the potential of partnerships and collaborations for your salon:

Joint Ventures:

Identify local businesses that share a similar clientele but aren't direct competitors. This could be a nearby gym, spa, boutique, or cafe. Collaborate on special packages or deals, like a "Refresh & Refuel" combo of a salon service followed by a discounted meal.

Event Sponsorships:

Local events, from fashion shows to charity runs, are always looking for sponsors and partners. Offer your salon's services for makeovers, hair styling, or even goodie bag contributions. It's a great way to gain visibility in the community and showcase your skills.

Cross-Promotions:

Team up with complementary businesses to promote each other. For example, a partnership with a local wedding planner could mean referrals for bridal beauty services. In return, you could offer discounts to clients who use that planner's services.

Influencer Collaborations:

In today's digital age, influencers wield considerable power in shaping consumer choices. Collaborate with local beauty or fashion influencers for special salon days, product reviews, or giveaway contests. Their endorsement can boost your salon's reputation and reach.

Pop-Up Collaborations:

Host a pop-up event at a partner business or venue. For example, a temporary nail bar inside a trendy boutique during a sale event. It’s an opportunity for both brands to tap into each other’s customer base.

Workshop Partnerships:

Collaborate with experts in fields like nutrition, fashion, or wellness to host workshops at your salon. While they provide insights on their topic, you can offer mini beauty treatments or demos.

When you partner and collaborate, it's not just about bringing more clients through your doors; it's about enriching their experience, expanding your brand’s horizons, and fostering a sense of community. By choosing the right partners and creating mutually beneficial campaigns, your salon can enjoy sustained growth and an enhanced reputation.

Digital Marketing Strategies:

In the digital age, where people are spending significant portions of their day online, salons can't afford to ignore the power of digital marketing. Whether it's through social media, email campaigns, or SEO-optimized websites, a strong online presence can dramatically boost your brand visibility, drive traffic, and foster client loyalty. Here are digital marketing strategies tailor-made for salons:

Social Media Showcasing:

Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are visual-centric, making them perfect for salons. Showcase before-and-after transformations, tutorials, or behind-the-scenes glimpses. Engage with your followers by hosting polls, Q&A sessions, or going live during special events.

Google My Business:

Claim your listing and ensure that all information—like address, hours of operation, and phone number—is accurate. Encourage happy customers to leave positive reviews. A robust GMB profile can improve local search visibility and drive footfalls.

Email Newsletters:

Collect email addresses and send out regular newsletters. Highlight monthly specials, introduce new staff members, or offer exclusive discounts to subscribers. Segment your email list to tailor promotions based on client preferences.

SEO-Optimized Website:

Ensure your salon's website is optimized for search engines. This includes using relevant keywords, having a mobile-responsive design, and regularly updating with blog posts related to beauty, hair care, or skincare.

Online Booking & Reviews:

Implement an online booking system to make appointment-setting easy for clients. Pair this with a review section where clients can provide feedback and read about others' experiences.

PPC Advertising:

Use platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads to run targeted campaigns. This can be especially helpful during slow periods or to promote a new service offering. Remember to target the ads based on demographics, interests, and location.

Influencer Partnerships:

As mentioned before, collaborating with influencers, especially those focused on beauty and wellness, can expand your reach. Sponsored posts or affiliate campaigns can introduce your salon to a wider audience.

Engaging Content Creation:

Establish your salon as an industry thought-leader. Create informative and entertaining blogs, videos, or infographics about trending hairstyles, beauty hacks, or skincare routines.

Loyalty Apps:

Invest in a digital loyalty program where clients can earn points for every visit or referral, redeemable for services or products. It’s a modern take on the classic loyalty card, making it easier for clients to engage and track their rewards.

Retargeting Campaigns:

Using platforms like Facebook, target users who've visited your website or interacted with your content but haven't made a booking. Retargeting ads remind potential clients of your services, increasing the chances of conversion.

In the realm of digital marketing, consistency is key. Regular engagement, timely updates, and responsive communication help in building a trusted online reputation. By integrating these strategies, salons can remain top-of-mind for clients, both existing and potential, in an increasingly virtual world.

Hosting & Participation:

Active participation in community events or hosting your own events is a dynamic way to position your salon at the heart of your local community. It enhances brand visibility, fosters goodwill, and offers opportunities for direct interactions with both existing and potential clients. Here’s how you can leverage hosting and participation to elevate your salon’s profile:

Open House Events:

Occasionally open your salon doors for a special evening where potential clients can explore your services, meet your staff, and enjoy complimentary mini-treatments. It’s a relaxed environment that can serve as a soft introduction to what your salon offers.

Local Community Fairs:

Participate in local fairs or farmers' markets. Set up a booth offering quick services like braids, nail art, or skin consultations. It’s a great way to show off your skills and introduce your brand to a wider audience.

Beauty Workshops:

Host workshops where attendees can learn the latest beauty tricks, hair care tips, or skincare routines. It's not just about showcasing your expertise but also about adding value to your clients' lives.

Collaborative Events:

Team up with other local businesses for combined events. For instance, a 'Wine and Style' evening with a local vineyard where attendees can enjoy fine wines while getting a new hairstyle.

Charity Initiatives:

Host or participate in charity events, like offering free haircuts for a cause or organizing a fundraiser where a portion of the day’s earnings go to a local charity. Such initiatives not only enhance your salon’s reputation but also contribute positively to the community.

Participate in Fashion Shows:

Local fashion shows or college events often need hair and makeup teams. Volunteer or partner up, showcasing your salon's creativity and technical prowess on the runway.

Networking Events:

Join local business associations or chambers of commerce and attend their networking events. Building relationships with other business owners can lead to collaborative opportunities and referrals.

Launch Parties:

When introducing a new service or product line, host a launch party. Invite both regular clients and potential leads to experience the new offerings firsthand.

Customer Appreciation Days:

Dedicate specific days to show gratitude towards your loyal clientele. Offer exclusive discounts, freebies, or throw a small party. It's all about acknowledging and celebrating those who support your business.

Seasonal Celebrations:

Organize events around seasonal themes, like a Halloween hairdo competition, a summer beach waves tutorial, or a winter skincare seminar.

Remember, hosting and participating in events are as much about community building as they are about business promotion. The connections you make, the trust you build, and the goodwill you foster often translate into long-term customer relationships and brand loyalty. Ensure that each event aligns with your salon’s ethos and brand image, making every interaction genuine and impactful.

Thematic Promotions:

Thematic promotions revolve around a central theme or concept, making your marketing campaigns more engaging, relevant, and memorable. By anchoring your promotional efforts around a theme, you can capture the imagination of your clients and stand out in the crowded salon market. Here's how you can craft compelling thematic promotions:

Trending Pop Culture:

Stay abreast of trending movies, TV shows, or music events. Offer services that align with these trends, like "Game of Thrones"-inspired braids or "Euphoria"-styled glitter makeup.

Historical Eras:

Dedicate a month or week to iconic beauty styles from different eras, like the Roaring '20s flapper look, the '60s mod style, or the '80s glam rock vibes.

Travel Destinations:

Introduce treatments inspired by global beauty rituals. For instance, a "Tropical Escape" package with coconut-infused treatments or a "Mysteries of the Orient" session incorporating traditional Asian beauty practices.

Artistic Inspiration:

Use famous artworks as your muse. Think "Starry Night" color palettes for nail art or hairstyles inspired by art deco patterns.

Eco & Sustainable Beauty:

Promote green beauty by having a "Nature's Touch" theme, focusing on organic products, eco-friendly practices, or vegan treatments.

Local Love:

Highlight the beauty and culture of your locality. If you're near the coast, offer "Beach Babe" treatments. In a mountainous region? Go for a "Mountain Refresh" theme.

Literary Inspirations:

Craft services around popular books or literary characters. For example, a "Pride and Prejudice" romantic updo or a "Great Gatsby" glamour package.

Festival Vibes:

Around popular music or cultural festivals, offer relevant packages. Think Coachella-inspired boho braids or vibrant Holi festival hair colors.

Astronomy & Zodiac:

Create treatments based on zodiac signs or celestial events. Offer a "Moonlit Glow" facial during a full moon or personalized hair treatments based on one's astrological sign.

Wellness & Holistic Beauty:

Embrace the connection between inner well-being and outer beauty. Offer promotions like "Mindful Beauty" sessions incorporating meditation with beauty treatments or "Body & Soul" packages combining massages with facials.

Thematic promotions allow your salon to tell a story, offering clients more than just a service but an experience. By continuously changing and updating themes, you can keep your clientele excited and curious about what's next, ensuring they always have a reason to return and see what new and creative promotions you have in store.

Customer Experience Enhancements:

Beyond the quality of the actual beauty or hair service provided, the overall customer experience is a critical determinant of client loyalty and word-of-mouth referrals. Enhancing this experience can set your salon apart and turn one-time visitors into regulars. Here's how you can elevate the customer journey at your salon:

Personalized Consultations:

Begin every service with a thorough consultation. Understand the client's desires, needs, and concerns, ensuring that the end result meets, or even better, exceeds their expectations.

Comfortable Ambiance:

Invest in comfortable seating, ambient lighting, and soothing music. An inviting atmosphere can significantly improve a client's perception of their salon visit.

Refreshment Offerings:

Serve complimentary beverages, such as herbal teas, coffee, or even sparkling water with a slice of lemon. Little touches like these make a big difference.

Introduce a rewards system where frequent visits or referrals earn points, which can be redeemed for services or products. It’s a way to show appreciation for loyal customers.

Follow-Up Care:

After a service, send follow-up messages with care instructions, product recommendations, or just to check in on the client's satisfaction.

Training & Skill Enhancement:

Regularly update and train your staff on the latest trends, techniques, and customer service skills. A well-trained team can offer a consistent and high-quality experience.

Online Booking & Reminders:

Implement an easy-to-use online booking system, Just signup to Noona HQ , one of the leading appointment booking systems for salons. Send appointment reminders through SMS or email to reduce no-shows and ensure clients are punctual.

Customized Product Recommendations:

Based on a client's specific needs, recommend products that can enhance and prolong the benefits of their salon service.

After-Service Lounge:

Create a dedicated space where clients can relax post-treatment, perhaps with a cup of tea or a quick touch-up station for makeup before they leave.

Exclusive Memberships:

Offer premium memberships that provide members with special perks like priority bookings, discounts, or first access to new services and products.

Digital Integration:

Introduce tablets or screens for clients to browse through styles, read magazines, or even provide feedback. Additionally, consider offering free Wi-Fi.

Special Occasion Recognition:

Recognize milestones in your clients' lives. A small gesture like a discount during their birthday month or a congratulatory note for a significant event (like a wedding or graduation) can foster a personal connection.

By consistently focusing on enhancing the customer experience, you communicate that you value and appreciate every client. This not only drives repeat business but also fosters a sense of community and loyalty around your salon brand. Remember, in the beauty industry, it's not just about how clients look when they leave, but also about how they feel during their entire visit.

Feedback & Reviews:

In today’s digital age, online reviews and feedback have become the word-of-mouth referrals of yesteryears. Not only do they influence potential clients' decisions, but they also provide invaluable insights into areas of improvement for businesses. For salons, actively managing and capitalizing on feedback can spell the difference between success and stagnation. Here’s how to effectively leverage feedback and reviews for your salon:

Encourage Reviews:

Politely request satisfied customers to leave a review on platforms like Google My Business, Yelp, or even your own website. A simple reminder at the checkout or a follow-up email can make a difference.

Respond to Feedback:

Engage with both positive and negative reviews. Thank the clients for their positive remarks and address any concerns raised in less favorable reviews. Demonstrating responsiveness can turn a negative situation into a positive one.

Feedback Cards:

Place feedback cards at your reception or waiting area. Clients can jot down their experience, which can give you instant insights.

Incentivize Reviews:

Offer small incentives for leaving reviews, such as discounts on the next visit or free product samples. Ensure that incentives are provided for honest feedback, not just positive reviews.

Spotlight Testimonials:

Showcase glowing testimonials on your website, social media, or even in-salon displays. They act as authentic endorsements of your services.

Monitor Review Platforms:

Regularly check major review platforms. This allows you to address negative feedback promptly and also keeps you updated on your salon's online reputation.

Feedback Surveys:

Use online tools like SurveyMonkey or Google Forms to create detailed feedback surveys. Send them out post-appointment or occasionally to your client list to gather in-depth insights.

Act on Constructive Criticism:

Don't just collect feedback; act on it. If multiple clients point out a particular area of improvement, address it promptly.

Showcase Improvements:

If you make a significant change based on customer feedback, let your clientele know. This not only highlights that you listen but also showcases your commitment to bettering the client experience.

Create a Feedback Loop:

Regularly update clients on changes made from feedback, ask for further input, and continually refine. This loop ensures ongoing improvement.

Train Staff on Feedback Importance:

Ensure your team understands the value of feedback. They should be open to receiving it, acting on it, and even encouraging clients to provide it.

Highlight Authenticity:

Never fabricate reviews or feedback. Authenticity is crucial. Clients can usually spot fake endorsements, which can harm your reputation more than a few negative comments.

In the era of informed consumers, reviews and feedback play an integral role in the decision-making process. By actively managing feedback, salons not only improve their services but also demonstrate a client-first approach, which can significantly enhance trust, loyalty, and overall brand perception.

Gift Cards & Packages:

The allure of gift cards and specialized packages lies in their convenience, flexibility, and appeal as thoughtful presents for loved ones or as treats for oneself. For salons, they represent not just an additional revenue stream but also an opportunity to attract new clientele, boost loyalty, and create a memorable experience. Here's how to effectively strategize and utilize gift cards and packages:

Seasonal Gift Cards:

Offer special edition gift cards during festive seasons, holidays, or events. For instance, heart-shaped cards for Valentine’s Day or snowflake designs for the winter holidays.

Tiered Packages:

Create different tiers of service packages, ranging from basic to premium, ensuring there’s something for every budget.

Series vouchers:

Series vouchers like “5 cuts for the price of 4” offer clients a way to commit to repeated visits to your salon, ensuring they enjoy consistency in service while also benefiting from a cost perspective. They provide salons with the dual advantage of upfront revenue and guaranteed repeat business.

Special Occasion Packages:

Curate packages tailored for specific occasions, such as wedding preparation, graduation celebrations, or birthday indulgences.

Combo Offers:

Combine services that complement each other at a discounted rate. For instance, a hair treatment combined with a blow-dry, or a manicure-pedicure duo.

Loyalty Bonuses:

Offer bonus points or a loyalty stamp with every purchase. After a certain number of purchases, the client could get a complimentary service or product.

Gift Card Expiry Extensions:

While it’s common to have expiration dates on gift cards, consider offering extensions upon request to show goodwill and flexibility.

Referral Incentives:

Encourage clients to refer friends by offering them a gift card discount or bonus for every successful referral.

Digital Gift Cards:

In today’s digital age, e-gift cards can be a boon. They can be emailed instantly, making them perfect last-minute gifts.

Customizable Packages:

Allow clients to create their own package combinations, offering them both choice and value for money.

Sneak Peek Offers:

Offer gift card holders exclusive previews of new services, products, or events. This adds an element of exclusivity to the card.

Bulk Purchase Discounts:

Encourage bulk gift card purchases (like corporate gifts) by offering discounts. Businesses could give these cards to employees as rewards or incentives.

Educational Add-Ons:

With a premium package, offer a brief workshop or tutorial. For instance, if someone buys a high-end skincare package, include a mini-session on correct product application.

Themed Packaging:

Enhance the gift card presentation with themed packaging, making it more than just a card but a complete gift experience.

Gift cards and packages not only offer immediate revenue but also promise future patronage. They’re a way to introduce your salon to potential clients, pamper regulars, and ensure that your services are always considered as thoughtful gift options. With careful planning and attractive offers, they can be a game-changer in enhancing salon business and brand recall.

Promotions help attract new clients, retain existing ones, and ensure that the salon stays top-of-mind when potential clients think of beauty and wellness services.

2. How often should I introduce new promotions?

It's good to keep things fresh by introducing new promotions monthly or seasonally. However, always ensure that promotions are relevant and provide genuine value to your clients.

Packers Mock Draft: Day 3 of 2024 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers have eight picks on Saturday to address remaining holes on the roster.

  • Author: Bill Huber

In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – It’s the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers are armed with eight picks. They’ve addressed needs at linebacker (Edgerrin Cooper, Ty’Ron Hopper), offensive line (Jordan Morgan), safety (Javon Bullard) and running back (MarShawn Lloyd). They still need help at cornerback and defensive end and further depth on the offensive line.

Using the Pro Football Network simulator, here’s our shot at filling holes.

Fourth Round: Notre Dame CB Cam Hart

GM Brian Gutekunst bypassed opportunities at cornerback in the first three rounds. It feels like a colossal roll of the dice to bank the season on Eric Stokes’ hamstrings and Carrington Valentine’s projected Year 2 jump. At 6-foot-3, Hart will provide some matchup options, if nothing else. However, his only two interceptions came in 2021.

Fifth Round: Washington State DE Brennan Jackson

At 6-foot-4 and 264 pounds, Jackson was one of the few edge defenders in the draft that have the size the Packers typically like. He had 14.5 sacks and 24.5 tackles for losses the last two seasons.

Fifth Round: Arkansas C Beaux Limmer

Limmer is one of the strongest players in the draft but also an above-average athlete. For the Razorbacks, he started 28 games at right guard in 2020 through 2022 and 11 games at center in 2023. He could bolster the depth as a rookie and potentially replace Josh Myers in 2025.

Sixth Round: Florida State DT Fabien Lovett

The Jackson-Limmer picks were back-to-back at Nos. 168 and 169. We almost went Jackson and Northern Iowa defensive tackle Khristian Boyd. This will work, though. At 6-foot-4 and 314 pounds with 35 1/2-inch arms and above-average athleticism, Lovett is worth a shot. He had 14.5 TFLs in 54 games over six seasons.

Sixth Round: Washington S Dominique Hampton

The Packers got their starting safety with Bullard in the second round, but Hampton would provide a different look in what’s almost a linebacker body at 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds with 4.51 speed. He had 109 tackles and two picks as a sixth-year senior. He should be a big-time weapon on special teams, if nothing else, from the start.

Sixth Round: Auburn CB Nehemiah Pritchett

I’m not sure Pritchett will fall this far. Corners who are 6-foot with 4.36 speed don’t grow on trees. He had a career-high 11 passes defensed way back in 2020 and three career interceptions in 41 starts.

Seventh Round: Kentucky QB Devin Leary

After five years at NC State, Leary transferred to Kentucky for his final season. He’s got a big-time arm and enough mobility, though it was worrisome to see him go from 65.7 percent accuracy in 2021 to 56.3 percent (and a career-worst 12 interceptions) in 2023.

Seventh Round: South Florida OT Donovan Jennings

Jennings started 45 games at left tackle over six seasons but probably is destined to play guard in the NFL. With 33-inch arms and 5.02 speed in the 40, he had a predraft visit with the Packers. In this scenario, the Packers added four offensive linemen over the past week with three draft picks and veteran Andre Dillard.
