Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

The city of Nashik in Maharashtra , is a renowned pilgrim and tourist town, ever made so popular with its temples, unique museums and wild rugged mountainous regions with hill top forts and shrines. The Wine Capital of India has lush vineyards and breweries as well as fields of tomatoes, onions and untamed marigolds.

The Ramayana, the epic story of Lord Rama has strong links with the town of Panchavati in Nashik and this is where you would find plenty of beautiful temples. Nashik is one among the divinely ordained regions of Haridwar , Prayag and Ujjain that celebrate the Simhastha Kumbh mela once in 12 years! Godavari also known as the South Ganges flows down the Trimbakeshwar Hills and meanders through the landscape, adding charm to the place that is already verdant and picturesque.

Beyond pilgrimages for the devout, Nashik’s undulating craggy peaks and valleys offer ample scope for adventure, nature tourism and photography.  If you are planning a trip to Nashik, our travel and tourism guide should help you plan a good trip.

How to Reach

How to Reach: Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

Nashik has good access by air, road or rail. The ideal way to reach the city would be by flight to Mumbai and a travel by road to Nashik.

Nashik’s Ozar Airport caters to domestic flights to cities like Ahmedabad , Bengaluru , New Delhi and Bhopal . You can hire a cab from the airport to the city.  The best option otherwise would be a flight booked to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport that caters to both domestic and international flights. From the airport you can book a cab to Nashik. You could also travel to Nashik by bus or train from Mumbai.

Nashik has several trains coming in from most Indian cities. From the rail station book an auto rickshaw, a cab or hop onto a bus to reach your destination.

There are inter and intra state private and government buses from many cities of Maharashtra and neighbouring states to the city of Nashik. Plenty of cabs and buses are available on the Mumbai to Nashik route.

Getting Around:

There are local buses, auto rickshaws, cabs and shared cabs for getting around town. There are special buses called Nashik Darshan buses that ply on important tourist routes, as well.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

Weather and Best Time to Visit: Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

Nashik’s seasons are tropical, with hot summers, occasionally heavy monsoons and pleasant winters. The best time to visit Nashik would be in winter.

Summer (April - June):

Summer is festival time in Nashik and Ram Rath Yatra and Janmahotsav are celebrated with great fervour and splendour, with grand pageants passing along the streets of Nashik. But summers are hot and dry and not considered favourable for tourism.

Monsoon (July - September):

Monsoon months up the hills near Nashik are charming, with raging waterfalls, mist covered peaks and verdant greenery. But rains are intermittently heavy and you might find travelling and sightseeing a bother. Adventure tourism and any other variety of outdoor activity may have to be put off for the occasional clear day.

Winter (October - March):

The days are pleasant and cool and are ideal for travelling, tourism and trekking. Nights can turn very cold and you might need to pack suitable winter wear. A variety of winter festivals await eager tourists, including vineyard festivals.

Things to Do

Things to Do: Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

Nature Trails:

A popular tourist schedule in Nashik is going off on a wild nature trail to the nature conservation zones of Nashik in which you have a wide choice of wild nature spots to choose from, with trekking trails, forts and a variety of animals and birds to photograph.

Boat Rides:

It’s a lovely feeling to sail a boat along the River Godavari, past the ancient temples that sit on the banks and the tall mountain peaks at the back drop.

Offbeat Adventures:

For all those adventurists out there, Nashik spoils you with several choices of adventure sports you would dream of indulging in. There are institutes to teach you the basics of adventure sports and wild opportunities to Zorbing, valley crossing or paragliding.

Historical Treks:

Clambering up a hill following a trekking trail amidst the lush undergrowth of wildflowers is a favourite sport of adventure seekers who come to Nashik. Finding a ruined fort, abandoned by the Mughals or Marathas with remnants of ramparts and secret chambers on top of the hill is yet another thrill to look forward to.

Fruit picking:

There are vineyards in Nashik where you can go in for some delightful fruit picking and grape stomping sessions. And in monsoon, you could go off on a guava picking spree.

A day at the Falls:

Monsoons and winters make Nashik an appealing place to be in, further accentuated by the spectacular waterfalls, like the Dugarwadi Waterfalls near Trimbakeshwar that’s a white cascade enveloped by lush forested mountain slopes.

Visit a Gallery:

Some of the most interesting places in Nashik are the city’s museums, that would attract history buffs, researchers, tourists and children. Go on an informative tour around numerous museums in and around Nashik. Check out Gargoti, the Mineral Museum in Sinnar that has an exceptionally unique collection of gem stones and precious stones, fossils, zeolites and natural crystals.

Shopping: Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

Shopping for souvenirs and keepsakes is an integral part of a tourist’s trip. The things that you could buy in Nashik are varied essentially because you can buy real fresh fruits like luscious grapes and guavas, dry fruits like raisins as well as utensils and ornaments made of gold and silver. If you get to eat Makai Chivda at a restaurant, you could buy more of these crispy, crunchy packaged tea time snacks that you would find sold in departmental stores in Nashik.

You may well buy branded clothes, Tibetan made winter wear, wooden handicrafts, bottle art and bead work. Some of the best buys are attractively patterned white and flower clay pots as well as plain red and black water pots, local textiles and Kolhapuri Chappals.

Cuisine: Nashik Tourism And Travel Guide

The traditional cuisine of Nashik is basically Maharashtrian, but you do find influences of Gujarathi and Rajasthani food. Some of Nashik’s must try items are the Gujarathi veggie thali meals, Danyachi usal with peanuts and coconut, shev bhaji, roti with bharli vangi, missal and vada pav, chiwda with chai as a tea time snack, lassi and dahi wada, so deliciously sought after especially in summers, Nashik’s own batata vada, bhel and pani Puri . Some of the street food of Nashik would also include momos, non veggie kebabs and grilled shawarma.

Nashik’s favourite desserts are Gulachi poli, the seasonal Ansa Phansachi Bhaji, sheera and jelabis. Sip at a falooda, soda, thick malai shake or pineapple sherbet in summer or choose from the array of tea variations in monsoon and winter.

TRAVEL WARNING ISSUED FOR ROAD BETWEEN NORTH SOUND AND VALLEY ON VIRGIN GORDA

By Jhaka Wooding

tours and travels nashik road

Authorities on Virgin Gorda are urging residents and visitors to avoid the roadway between North Sound and Valley due to severe flood damage and erosion that has made the route hazardous. The Ministry of Communications and Works issued the travel warning early this morning after assessing the impacts of recent heavy rains in the area.

“Due to severe flooding and erosion, the roadway between North Sound and Valley on the island of Virgin Gorda is currently in a hazardous condition,” stated the Ministry. “The public and motorists are advised to avoid this area until further notice.”

Photos in circulation from the scene show significant washouts and undercutting of the road from floodwaters. Large debris piles and mud cover portions of the road.

Ministry officials say limited to no travel is recommended along the affected stretch until an “all clear” can be given and repairs made.

“If travel is absolutely necessary, extreme caution is advised when traversing the area,” the warning states. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes for the time being to avoid putting themselves at risk.

The Ministry has recommended actions for the public, including avoiding the flooded and eroded section between North Sound and Valley altogether, monitoring news and official communications for updates, planning alternate routes if travel is essential, and exercising extreme vigilance if driving through unavoidably.

A timeline was not provided for reopening the route.

“The public’s cooperation and patience are appreciated during this time,” the statement concluded.

Heavy rains from a slow-moving system have caused widespread flooding across the Virgin Islands.

Residents and visitors are urged to avoid any non-essential travel, heed all warnings and instructions from authorities, and have supplies ready in case of extended road closures or utility outages.

On the Road With Toto Wolff, Who Likes to Spend a 14-Hour Flight in Silence, Just Thinking

By Gregory Leporati

Image may contain Toto Wolff Photography Face Head Person Portrait City Metropolis Urban Adult Happy and Smile

Few people on earth travel as often as professional athletes (and the people who work with them). With On the Road, the GQ Sports Travel Questionnaire , they’re weighing in on everything from room service to flying comfortably to their favorite chain restaurants.

In a quiet hotel suite in midtown Manhattan, Toto Wolff is gazing out at the expansive city skyline.

“New York is my favorite place,” he says in his distinctive Austrian accent. In recent years, the 52-year-old team principal of the Mercedes F1 team has become something of a celebrity, known to legions of Formula 1 fans for his stone-cold demeanor and his terse radio messages .

In reality, though, he’s a surprisingly warm, funny guy, and likes to wax poetic about his favorite city in the world.

“You know those places where you come and you connect—your soul connects?” he asks, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. “The first time I was in New York was 30 years ago, and I had that feeling. It’s the only city I could imagine living in other than in Europe.”

On this visit, though, Wolff won’t be spending much time in the Big Apple. It’s just a quick pit stop on his way to Florida for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, Formula 1’s first U.S. race of the season.

Moments earlier, Wolff and star driver, Lewis Hamilton , had been at the hotel’s rooftop, surrounded by hordes of influencers and VIPs as they pulled a lever to project onto the Empire State Building a Mercedes-resembling race car emoji, part of a partnership with WhatsApp designed to highlight the app's stateside growth.

Before shipping off to Miami and boarding yet another flight, Wolff sat down with GQ to talk about his top travel tips, his worst plane experiences, and what he looks for in a good hotel.

On average, it’s about 500 hours in an airplane all year. You get used to it, and when you’ve done it for so many years, jet lag is not an issue anymore. I know how to adapt quickly, how to function for those three days when you’re away for the races. And flying is a period of quietness for me. I’m not watching any movies or listening to music. It’s just… the possibility of staring out the window or at the ceiling, trying to think about stuff.

I can do 14 hours straight just staring at the ceiling with a notepad, where I can write stuff down as I think. That’s why I love it.

I sometimes sleep on planes, but never long enough. I doubt anyone sleeps well on a plane.

There is one destination—I struggle in Japan, for whatever reason. I love Tokyo, and the Suzuka race is spectacular, but the eight hours is something that’s really difficult to cope with. I can go 10 or 11 hours to Australia without suffering from jet lag at all, and obviously going west causes no jet lag.

For me, there are some tips I have to deal with it. First of all, it depends on how long you’re staying. If it’s just a few days, then simply accepting that you won’t sleep very well is one way of dealing with it. You can use melatonin, which is good, and sometimes when we need to function, we also take a sleeping pill—not to the point where it paralyzes you for the next day and turns you into a zombie! But a little something to help fall asleep.

We’ve been working with NASA about the sleep patterns for astronauts. If you stay for longer periods, the very moment you board the plane, you must adjust to the time zone of your arrival. That might mean wearing sunglasses and shades when it’s night, or exposing yourself to bright light. I have a little screen with blue LED lights on my desk—in China, for example, that was on my desk all day to keep me awake.

I didn’t know they had this notion of “happy flight.” We’ve analyzed it profoundly… and, yes, there were many happy flights where you were buzzing getting onto a plane. You lie back for a sleep, if it’s far away, and you just fall asleep with a smile on your face.

But the truth is, when I’ve woken up the next day, I was already thinking… are we prepared enough for the next race? The pleasure of having won lasts only 12 hours. The pain of losing, however, goes all the way until Thursday before the next race.

I actually enjoy flying a lot, even in turbulence. But 20 years ago I had an experience where I was on a charter flight on a small, private plane, with a pilot who happened to be, for his main job, an animal doctor—how do you call it, a veterinarian? And we flew straight into a storm. The hail actually damaged the plane, and we just barely made the landing. That was probably the most unpleasant experience.

Well, I must admit, we may not race in New York—although Lewis is driving down Fifth Avenue —but being in the United States around the three Grands Prix here allows me to spend time in NYC and in Los Angeles, where two of my children study. My favorite part of the season is October/November because I can spend a lot of time in the States.

What’s different is that, contrary to sports people who grow up with exposure, with me it happened in my late 30s, becoming a character and personality. I look at it all with a certain amusement, as a phenomenon—because you have TV exposure and you’re part of this Formula 1 circus, you’re just interesting to people.

How to Make a GQ-Approved Trophy

But I take it all with a pinch of salt. There’s no benefit in it aside from, sometimes, a better table in a restaurant. So don’t fall in love with your own persona.

I’m really not into the, let’s say… sheer fact of meeting a “celebrity.” That’s not for me. I don’t do red carpets, and small talk is the worst for me—I try to avoid that. I really admire people for the things they’ve achieved, particularly in my part of the world, around what I do in business or in sports. There were a few encounters that were special to me that I remember, brief exchanges that were interesting. Tom Brady was definitely one of them.

With me, it’s simple. I have a great team of assistants, and when I arrive in a hotel, everything is there for me: four white shirts, four trousers, four socks, two pairs of shoes, and a set of gym gear. It’s all meticulously planned.

And when it comes to myself, I try to really keep it simple. The same shoes in different colors, blue and beige chinos, blue and beige jacket, white and blue shirt—and this is what I put into the luggage. It’s not very complicated.

Well, the most important thing is cleanliness. I’ve stayed many times in three-star hotels, but they’re clean or authentic. That’s all I need, and I really feel well then. Sometimes we go-kart with my son in Italy, and there’s no infrastructure where we stay. It’s just a simple hotel, no gym, no spa, no bar. Just keep it simple, basic, and clean—that’s what it needs.

And if a hotel does have a gym—all I care about is that it has dumbbells.

WhatsApp is our only way, at least in our group of friends and family. I do email sometimes, but that’s when it’s about work or technically very specific things.

We have lots of group chats, especially when Susie and I are both gone—like right now, for example. Our seven-year-old is with the grandparents in Scotland, and we get the full updates on the hikes and the cycling. I’ve got lots of business and personal group chats going at the same time.

There actually was one many years ago—but that got deleted pretty quickly. Didn’t last too long!

Cuyana Easy Travel Tote Review: Soft, Durable And Built To Last

In our wider review of the best travel totes on the market, we named Cuyana’s System Tote our best overall option. After the brand’s recent debut of the Easy Travel Tote, we decided to test it to see how it compares.

As a frequent traveler, I’m always looking for a tote that is both durable enough to carry heavy items like my laptop, chargers and tablet as well as stylish enough to bring to lunch or dinner after getting off a plane or train. Cuyana, a women-owned clothing and accessories brand known for its long-lasting quality, wearability and design, has been a staple of my travels for the past few years (the Travel Beauty Roll comes with me on every trip), so my ears perked up when I heard of the brand’s latest release, the Easy Travel Tote .

The Easy Travel Tote is the latest travel bag from women-owned clothing and accessories brand ... [+] Cuyana.

I had heard raves from friends and coworkers about Cuyana’s bags, including the System Tote , which we named the best travel tote in our larger review. Made from double-sided Italian leather that softens over time, Cuyana’s bags are investments that are built to last. With multiple trips each month, I often burn through luggage and bags (airport baggage carousels can really do some damage), so I was especially into the idea of having a bag that can withstand my heavy travel schedule, and decided to put the Easy Travel Tote to the test on a weekend road trip.

Cuyana Easy Travel Tote

Dimensions:  14.2 x 25.3 x 6.3 |  Materials: Italian leather |  Weight:  2.9 pounds |  Accessories:  Detachable crossbody strap; easy tote insert; zipper pouch; flap bag (all sold separately) |  Care:  Wipe clean with damp cloth

  • Weekend getaways and road trips
  • Those seeking a spacious bag made out of high-quality Italian leather
  • You need exterior pockets
  • You’re looking for a bag to slide over your suitcase; this tote does not come with a trolley sleeve

The Best Bug Zappers To Keep Your Home Free Of Mosquitoes, Gnats And More

The 21 best mother’s day flowers to surprise mom this sunday, spacious with multiple pockets and a top zipper.

Like many of Cuyana’s bags , the Easy Travel Tote is made from buttery, pebbled Italian leather. I’m a big fan of leather bags since faux leather can often give off a very chemical or plastic smell. The Easy Travel Tote has a warm, earthy and high-quality leather scent that I noticed as soon as I opened it.

The tote has a deep interior with two large pockets on each side that are spacious enough to hold a pair of headphones, chargers or tablet case. While the interior pockets are not zippered, I do appreciate that this bag has a zippered top, which means I don’t have to worry about items flying out of my bag during bumpy rides or flights (yes, this has happened to me before).

The Easy Travel Tote is the newest travel tote from women-owned clothing and accessories bag Cuyana.

Functional, Versatile And Durable

Because I was only going on a weekend trip, I decided to use the Easy Travel Tote as my primary bag and see how much I could fit inside of it. After inspecting its interior, I knew I could easily put all of its 37 liters of volume to good use. It’s several inches larger and wider than the Classic Easy Zipper Tote , which is the next size down, so I could seamlessly slide in my 16-inch laptop, tablet, all of my chargers, several tops and bottoms, a denim jacket, a pair of shoes and my purse, meaning I didn’t need to bring a suitcase on this trip. Better yet, the tote didn’t feel clunky or look oddly shaped when I picked it up, so I was able to bring it with me to a restaurant for lunch without any issues.

Another great feature of this bag is its versatility. I used a wide shoulder strap , which is sold separately, to sling the bag over my shoulders, making it easy to carry around everywhere. I could also see myself using this tote on commuter days when I’m bouncing around from the gym to dinner and need to bring along my laptop; its chic exterior lets it blend into different environments, from a train station to hang-outs with friends.

For those who prefer a tote they can sling over their shoulder, Cuyana offers adjustable straps that ... [+] are sold separately.

Cuyana Easy Travel Tote: The Final Verdict

After testing Cuyana’s Easy Travel Tote, I can attest to its quality, durability and style. I was able to fit so much inside of it, and it didn’t take up too much space in the trunk of my car. I also found it to be incredibly comfortable: its straps made it easy to sling over my shoulder and carry around shops and restaurants. However, for flights, I would have loved to see this bag include at least one external pocket for easy access to my passport. I also fear that with as much as I packed in it, its lack of trolley sleeve would make it balance very precariously on the top of my suitcase. And at $428, this bag is certainly a splurge, especially when you consider that all of its accessories are sold separately (the adjustable wide strap I used is $88).

The tote's interior is spacious with two large interior pockets that can hold a 16-inch laptop, ... [+] chargers, headphones or other items.

Yet for frequent travelers like myself, this bag delivers. It can easily be used as a gym bag, diaper bag, commuter bag and a personal item on a flight, which means you’ll get a lot of use out of it. And its high-quality leather exterior not only allows it to hold plenty of items while still looking stylish (no easy feat), but it will keep its shape and luster for years to come, making this tote a worthy investment.

Here's how road construction will impact your travel plans in Stevens Point, Plover and Portage County

Here’s a list of current and upcoming road construction projects to consider in your travel plans and what local drivers can expect to encounter..

A multi-phase road construction project closes both eastbound lanes of Portage County B, between Hoover Avenue and Interstate 39, on April 25, while one westbound lane remains open. Once the eastbound lanes are finished, one eastbound lane will reopen while both westbound lanes will be closed.

Drivers will again be impacted by road construction projects throughout the spring and summer in Stevens Point and Portage County. Here’s a list of current and upcoming projects to consider in your travel plans and what local drivers can expect to encounter.

Stevens Point

North side project: This project area consists of Maria Drive between Second Street and Division Street; Walker Street between its western end and Second Street; and Vincent Street, between Maria Drive and Sixth Avenue. These corridors will be reconstructed, including both underground utilities and surface features. A mini roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Maria Drive and Second Street. The project is expected to begin May 13 and be completed in October, according to Scott Beduhn, Stevens Point director of public works.

South side project: Another multi-street project has already begun south of the railroad and west of Water Street. This project consists of Bliss Avenue from Park Street to Water Street; Mason Street from Park Street to Water Street; Francis Street from its western end to Water Street; and Prairie Street from its northwestern end to Francis Street. These streets will be reconstructed, including both underground utilities and surface features. As part of an effort to remove pavement in the city, the city’s engineering department has proposed not replacing about 150 feet of pavement on Prairie Street between Bliss Avenue and Mason Street. The City Plan Commission reviewed the proposal Tuesday. The project is expected to be completed in early October. Access for local traffic will be maintained as much as possible.

Portage County

Portage County B: In a multi-phase project, a little over a mile of roadway west of Interstate 39 will see several disruptions in the upcoming weeks , according to Nathan Check, Portage County highway commissioner. Between Hoover Avenue and the interstate, concrete replacement has closed both eastbound travel lanes while one westbound lane remains open. Once the eastbound lanes are finished, one eastbound lane will reopen while both westbound lanes will be closed. Access to Village Park Drive is expected to fully reopen by mid-June. The portion of the project between Hoover Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue will widen the pavement median, refresh the curbs, gutters or asphalt shoulders, add a sidewalk, add an asphalt multi-use path and add a traffic signal at the Mecca Drive intersection. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project in this section. The project is expected to be completed in November.

Portage County AA: This roughly four-and-a-half-mile project lies between Portage County D and State 22. The road will undergo reconditioning, which will include improving the road profile, pavement structure and drainage while replacing deteriorated asphalt surface. Access will be maintained for local residents and businesses but all other traffic should use alternate routes.

Portage County S: Between Portage County P south to County Line Road is over six miles of Portage County S, which also runs along the border between Wood and Portage counties. This project will consist of resurfacing the existing road by laying about 2 inches of new asphalt surface on top of it. Access will be maintained for local residents, businesses and emergency vehicles but it will be closed to thru traffic. Work is expected to begin June 10.

Highway projects

Interstate 39: From State 54, or Exit 151, north to Stevens Point’s North Second Street, or just north of Exit 161, will have its asphalt pavement resurfaced along with most of the ramps through a thin mill and overlay process, according to Bryan Rose, Department of Transportation communications manager. Other improvements will include resurfacing of Portage County HH/McDill Avenue between the on- and off-ramps, replacement of infall and outfall structures on the U.S. 10 southbound ramps, geometric improvements to the U.S. 10 northbound on-ramp, and high-friction surface treatment beneath the North Second St. bridge. The project is expected to begin in July. Work will take place with single-lane closures and nighttime ramp closures. Closures at U.S. 10 will have detours posted but other ramp closures will not.
