At the Good Housekeeping Institute , we are all about baby safety and frequently evaluate products such as the best baby monitors and the best infant car seats . For this story, we consulted experts and scoured the internet to find the best noise-cancelling headphones for babies that have a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 20 dB or more. We looked at 20 pairs of headphones and whittled the choices down to the five best.

Though manufacturers might say that baby headphones are suitable from birth, we have opted to list all of our picks as starting at 3 months. Talk to your pediatrician, but most tend to prefer that parents refrain from bringing a newborn younger than 3 months to a crowded (i.e. loud) event until they get their two-month round of immunizations (see the CDC vaccination schedule ). It's also good to point out that none of these baby headphones will encase your baby in silence. Though they may be called noise-cancelling, they are really sound-reducing. Your baby will still be able to hear some noise. Keeping these factors in mind, in addition to comfort and user-friendliness, we selected the best noise-cancelling headphones for babies.

The one universal "con" of all baby ear muffs is that your baby might try to pull them off. To help thwart that issue, we've included tips and tricks for getting your baby to wear headphones at the end of our list. We also have information from a pediatrician on why you might want to use baby headphones, how we compiled this list and what to look for when shopping for baby noise-cancelling headphones.

If you're interested in finding some peace and quiet for yourself, check out our roundup of noise-cancelling headphones for adults or sound machines for sleep .

Possibly the most well-known brand for baby noise-cancelling headphones, Banz offers earmuffs that are well-padded for extra comfort around the ears and the headband. Available in an array of colors and patterns for cuteness, they've shown up on the ears of celebrity kids including Prince George (at an air show) and DJ Khaled's son Asahd (at the BET Awards).

On a more relatable level, we've had testers put these on their babies for events like weddings. Nutrition Lab Director Stefani Sassos uses them on her daughter for loud family events when there's music playing. "At one, I had 'loud noise environment' notifications going off on my Apple Watch and when we left, my own ears were ringing — all of which reaffirmed that these were necessary for my daughter," Sassos said. "She was nine months old at the time, and comfortable in them." Though they're the heaviest and priciest on our list (but not by a lot), Banz has a high NRR rating and over 12k five-star Amazon reviews, illustrating they are a quality choice.

With an NRR rating on the low side, these don't cut out quite as much sound as some other choices, but they are the lightest baby headphones on our list and a value pick from a trusted brand that also makes protective headphones for adults.

So if you think your toddler is more likely to wear headphones if their grownup is wearing them too, you might want to grab your own pair of ProCase adult headphones and twin with your little one while watching fireworks or riding in an airplane.

Note that the baby-sized ones only come in this shade of blue. The ProCase Kids Ear Protection headphones , age-graded from 1 to 16, are a little more expensive but also a little more protective, and they come in more colors. They're something to consider if you're shopping for a toddler, preschooler or big kid.

If you struggle to keep headphones on your baby's head, you may have some luck with this Dutch brand that uses an elastic headband for a snug fit and firm hold .

Some families say it works exactly as promised for them, while others report that it's initially a little tough to get on their baby if they're a real wiggle-worm. If you’re always conscious of protecting your baby’s fontanelle, or soft spot, you’ll appreciate that the fit keeps these headphones away from that area (though you may be comforted by the fact that traditional headphones that cross the fontanelle are not considered dangerous). These headphones should stretch to fit up to age 3.

Available in six colors, Muffy Baby headphones come with a carrying case that makes it easy to keep your baby's ear protection clean and separated from everything else in your diaper bag .

Mumba Baby Earmuffs match our best overall pick for its high NRR rating, meaning they cut down about as much noise as possible . As with all noise-cancelling headphones, your baby will still hear loud sounds, but they'll be muffled. Online reviewers praise the durability of the foam headband which can take a good bit of stretching and twisting.

When you push down on the logo-printed button, you can slide the headband through and easily adjust the fit. Though you can expect these to fit past your baby's second birthday, they are likely going to be too small by age 3.

We'll be honest that we were first attracted to this newer brand's lovely monotone pastel design . B ut Snug Baby Earmuffs are also good noise-cancelling headphones for babies through age 2. Their low price nearly matches our value pick, yet these headphones have a slightly higher NRR rating for more soundproofing ability.

We like that so many online reviewers say their baby wears these comfortably. The only complaint from some is that the headphones might arrive with a faint chemical smell. If that happens, we suggest unboxing them a day or so before you'll be using them and wiping them down with a baby wipe.

How we choose the best baby noise-cancelling headphones

line break

We reviewed 20 pairs of noise-cancelling headphones designed specially for babies, focusing on pairs with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) compliant with ANSI/ASA S12.6-2016 as required by the American National Standards Institute. According to that organization, the highest NRR a consumer can expect is 30 or 31, and two of our choices, including our best overall pick, meet that high threshold. Note that you might also see companies list an SNR number, which is the European standard; NRR is the US standard.

The Environmental Protection Agency established the current Noise Label Program, which requires an NRR number to be listed. But the EPA is in the process of changing NRR rating labels. Instead of the “single number” approach, future labels may indicate a range, accounting for variability in usage and fit. Of all the baby headphones we looked at, only Alpine Muffy Baby headphones currently provide a range instead of a single number.

We also checked our final choices with the experts at Quiet Mark , a partner of the Good Housekeeping Institute. Quiet Mark has not certified any noise-cancelling headphones made for babies. Though the staff had no red flags with our picks, they noted that a professional audiologist or pediatrician is the best person to provide advice about appropriate use. Finally, we received feedback from parents who have used headphones on their baby regarding fit, comfort and ease of use.

What to look for when shopping for baby noise-cancelling headphones

Heading somewhere loud with your baby in tow and want to protect their ears? This is what you should be mindful of before you buy a pair:

✔️ Fit: Be sure you're buying headphones that will fit an infant. Look for an age grading that goes from birth or the infant months to age 2 or 3 years.

✔️ Ear-muff style: The big ear muffs are the sound-reducing kind. Headphones with smaller cups are usually the ones you plug into a device so your child can listen to music or shows. The noise-reducing headphones for a baby will not have any cord or Bluetooth ability.

✔️ NRR rating: As described above, the Noise Reduction Rating gives you a gauge of how well the headphones block sound, with the highest rating for baby headphones reaching 31. Most baby noise-cancelling headphones have a rating somewhere in the 20s; we would not recommend buying headphones with an NRR rating below 19.

✔️ Realistic expectations: Don't expect headphones to deliver silence. Though they may be called "noise cancelling," there is no pair of headphones that can silence everything. "Decreasing the sound reaching your baby's ears is the goal," Dr. Balk says.

When wearing headphones, your baby might not hear the conversation going on at a late-night family barbecue and could even drift off to sleep, but they might open their eyes when fireworks start. The noise won't be as loud as it would be without headphones, but your baby will still hear the muffled bangs.

Are noise-cancelling headphones safe for babies?

line break

We turned to the American Academy of Pediatrics for advice. AAP member Sophie J. Balk , MD, a pediatrician at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore in New York City and professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, says that babies should be shielded from loud noise as much as possible, and baby noise-cancelling headphones can play a part in that.

"For many reasons, babies’ delicate ears and hearing are thought to be more sensitive to excessive noise compared to older children and adults," Dr, Balk says. "Babies also can’t remove themselves from uncomfortable – even painful – noisy situations so they must rely on adults to protect them." By using ear protection, you're not only keeping your baby from experiencing pain, you're working to prevent any permanent damage. "Hearing loss that occurs because of excessive noise can have long-term consequences, including their ability to learn," Dr. Balk says.

A rule of thumb: If a place seems loud to you, it's probably too loud for your baby. "Noisy restaurants, parties, sports events, dance events, life events – all can be fun for people but also may get extremely loud," Dr. Balk says. "If you decide to stay at the event, put protective headphones on your baby to keep them as safe as possible."

Tips for getting your baby to wear noise-cancelling headphones

a baby wears pink noise cancelling headphones at a noisy family event

Here, some advice from parents who have been there.

• Fuss with the fit at home , before you are in the loud situation. That gives you a chance to adjust the headphones to the proper width so that they slide right onto your baby when the music or event begins.

• Be ready with a distraction when you first put the headphones on your kid. When you place a hat, headband or anything else on a baby, often their first inclination is to yank it off. But if you're prepared with a favorite toy, sippy cup or anything they can hold in their hands, you can likely distract them long enough that they'll forget something went on their head.

• Look convincing. If you appear worried that your baby is going to reject the headphones, they'll probably read your skepticism and be nervous themselves. Prepare to look delighted and excited about your baby wearing headphones and they're more likely to keep them on.

• If needed, pretend that YOU want them. If your baby is really having none of it, put the headphones on yourself and show your baby how glad you are to have them. They always want what you've got! Another tactic: Use peer pressure to your advantage and have an older sibling or friend wear headphones.

To say traveling with kids is hard would be a major understatement. But if you plan ahead, it can also be an immense joy for both you and your wanderlusts-in-training. Getting children to sit still while minimizing potential tantrums en route can be easier with downloaded shows, mobile games, audio stories, or music. And headphones are a critical piece of this puzzle.

"Good headphones made for kids limit the volume to 85 decibels (dB)," says pediatric otolaryngologist Cher Zhao, MD. Continued exposure to noise above this level could contribute to hearing loss .

With pointers from Dr. Zhao in mind, we researched today's best kids' headphones for travel. From simple wired headsets for small ears to cute, brightly colored designs and Bluetooth-enabled picks with a long battery life, there's something for every child.

Best Overall

Jbl jr300bt kids headphones.

These bright headphones are lightweight, compact, and foldable, with easy Bluetooth connectivity and kid-friendly controls.

The battery life isn't as long as other wireless options we found.

JBL makes our favorite kids' headphones, especially for travel. This set is lightweight, compact, and conveniently foldable, with a soft headband and plush ear cushions. The band is sized for a child's head and can be adjusted for a better fit.

The wireless design seamlessly connects to tablets and smartphones via Bluetooth and boasts easy controls. Kids can turn them on and off, sync to a mobile device, and adjust the volume — which is limited to 85 decibels for safe listening — all without an adult's help.

“The data shows that if you have prolonged exposure, more than eight hours a day to noises over 85 dB, you can cause permanent damage to the hair cells in the inner ear."

These headphones run on a rechargeable battery. They have a play time of up to 12 hours (slightly less than most other wireless options we found) and charge with a USB cable. We like that they're available in playful, two-toned colorways and come with stickers so kids can customize each pair.

Best Budget

Iclever hs19 kids headphones.

iClever headphones are not only affordable but also foldable, adjustable, and super comfy.

Younger kids and toddlers likely won't need the microphone and hands-free calling feature.

Looking for something more affordable? iClever headphones are very similar to most higher-end options, and they won't run you more than $20. Parents can adjust the volume limit from 85 to 94 decibels to minimize outside noise while still allowing kids to hear in public spaces, on an airplane, or in the car.

These wired headphones plug into a standard 3.5mm audio jack and have a sharing jack for another child to connect. We also like how the over-ear design is soft and lightweight to keep kids comfortable for hours. The headband adjusts to ensure a perfect fit and folds up for easy packing.

The Details: Noise-blocking | 85–94 dB volume limit

Best for Younger Kids

Belkin soundform mini wired on-ear headphones for kids.

SoundForm Mini headphones have cushioned ear cups, an adjustable headband, and a safe volume limit to protect small ears.

They don't block sound, and the mic feature is probably unnecessary for younger kids.

For younger children, we recommend Belkin's SoundForm Mini line. These wired headphones have small cushioned cups designed specifically for little ears and an adjustable headband to ensure a perfect fit. They're available in pink, blue, and black and all come with a sticker sheet to add a little flair.

This pair has easy volume controls and an 85-decibel limit to protect hearing. There's also a built-in mic on the cable for phone calls and remote learning, but this is likely unnecessary for most kiddos under 6.

The Details: 85 dB volume limit

Best for Older Kids

Puro sound labs bt2200s volume limited kids headphones.

These fully loaded headphones can connect via Bluetooth or plug into a jack and come with interchangeable ear cups.

The price is steeper than most kids' headphones, but they're backed by a one-year warranty.

If you're shopping for an older child or preteen, consider Puro. These adjustable headphones come with two sets of interchangeable ear cups, giving kids the option for an on-ear or over-ear fit. Ideal for travel, they connect to any mobile device via Bluetooth and play for up to 20 hours on a full charge. They can also plug into a 3.5mm jack with the included cable.

The company’s founder has noise-induced hearing loss, so you can bet the volume is limited to a safe level to protect delicate eardrums while blocking most ambient noise. Though the price is higher than most kids' headphones, this pair delivers crisp, studio-grade sound — plus it's backed by a one-year warranty.

The Details: Bluetooth | Noise-blocking | 85 dB volume limit | 20-hour battery life

Best for Long Flights

Happy plugs play youth headphones.

Happy Plugs

Happy Plugs Play boasts a 25-hour battery life with a plug-and-play option, plus safe noise-isolating sound and an adjustable fit.

They're only recommended for children over 4 years old.

If you have an overseas or cross-country flight coming up, Happy Plugs might be your best bet. The Swedish brand's Play Youth Headphones run on a rechargeable battery and offer a whopping 25 hours of listening time on a full charge. When the battery gets low, plug in for just 10 minutes to get another five hours. Kids can also use the included auxiliary cable to plug into a mobile device or share audio with a buddy.

The soft vegan leather is treated with Biomaster antimicrobial technology to repel bacteria — a big bonus for germ-conscious flyers . Though the adjustable headband and rotating ear cups ensure a comfortable fit on different head sizes, bear in mind these headphones are designed for ages 4 and up.

The Details: Bluetooth | Noise-blocking | 85 dB volume limit | 25-hour battery life

Best for Road Trips

Pogs the elephant kids' wired headphones.

This headset is adjustable and conveniently foldable, with easy plug-in connectivity and audio sharing.

The mic could be better, but most kids may not use this feature.

Family road trip on the horizon? Go with Pogs. Designed to help keep kids occupied and comfortable for hours at a time, The Elephant headset has several standout features. It has plush ear cups and a padded, adjustable headband for a customized fit that grows with your child.

The plug-in connection makes it easy for children to get set up, plus you never have to worry about recharging. What's more, the long fabric cable is designed to reach the next seat over and resist tangling. The Elephant can even link to another set, allowing siblings to watch the same show. We also like that these headphones are foldable so they're easy to pack or stash in the car, and the pastel colors — of green, pink, blue, and yellow — also stand out when this happens.

The Details: Noise-blocking | 85 dB volume limit

Best Designs

Buddyphones playears+.

Beyond the cute animal-inspired headband, we love the safe volume controls, long battery life, and foldable design.

It can be tricky to connect to some devices via Bluetooth.

BuddyPhones PlayEars+ come in four adorable animal-inspired designs (puppy, cat, fox, and polar bear) and can be personalized with the included stickers. But they're more than just cute. These kids' headphones provide high-quality, noise-isolating sound, and the safe volume controls can be set to cap at 75, 85, or 94 decibels.

PlayEars+ headphones have a rechargeable battery that lasts 24 hours and Bluetooth connectivity with an impressive 65-foot range. If your child struggles to sync the Bluetooth, they can plug into a jack with the included cable. We also appreciate that these headphones are foldable and adjustable.

The Details: Bluetooth | Noise-blocking | 75–94 dB volume limit | 24-hour battery life

Best Headband

Kidsband kids headphones bluetooth headband.

The soft, stretchy Kidsband offers a flexible fit and can be rolled or folded to fit in jacket pockets.

This pair doesn't isolate sound which may make it harder for kids to hear what's playing.

Unlike headsets with traditional ear cups, the Kidsband is soft and flexible like a fabric headband. It's comfy to wear and stretches over different head sizes to ensure a perfect fit. Not only that, but it can be folded or rolled up for easy packing. These headphones can be comfortably worn in any sleeping position and even pulled over the eyes to double as an eye mask while your child dozes off to white noise.

The Kidsband gives kids the option to connect through Bluetooth or plug into a mobile device with an auxiliary cable. One thing to note is that the volume limit is slightly higher than most other headsets we found (90 decibels). And it doesn't isolate sound, which can make it harder to hear what's playing.

The Details: Bluetooth | 90 dB volume limit | 12-hour battery life

Best Earmuffs

Banz earmuffs.

These earmuffs meet multiple safety standards for hearing protection and keep little ears comfortable for hours.

The standard option is larger than the baby size and recommended for kids 2 and up.

If you're looking for something to block outside noise to protect your child's hearing on an airplane, at a concert, or during another particularly loud event, Banz is a great choice. These earmuffs meet both U.S. and European safety standards for preventing hearing loss.

They have foam-filled cushions around the ear cups and wide shells to prevent uncomfortable squishing. The kids' size is designed for children 2 and up, with an adjustable headband that helps ensure a proper fit. There's also a baby size for children under 24 months.

The Details: Noise-blocking

Most Compact

Jlab jbuddies folding kids wired headphones.

The cushioned ear cups and flexible headband keep children comfortable on the road and fold down easily, too.

They don't come with a hardside case, but the durable materials resist breaking.

Made with portability in mind, JBuddies are not only compact but also highly packable. While the other solid-style headphones on our list fold as well, these get down to just 5.5 x 4 inches, and the smooth hinges are designed to prevent pinching. The included soft travel bag can fit in small backpacks and most seat pockets, too. Plus, the durable materials resist breaking, and JLab backs them with a lifetime warranty.

These headphones have small cushioned ear cups and an adjustable headband with a flexible fit. They limit volume to 85 decibels to protect young ears, and kids of all ages can easily connect to mobile devices using the auxiliary cable.

Tips for Buying Headphones for Kids

Look for volume control.

All good headphones for kids have volume control limits — meaning they limit the max volume to 85 dB.

Of course, you want to aim for much less than that — about an hour a day max for both kids and adults, Dr. Zhao says. For yourself, or for kids in loud places, think about a 60/60 rule: Loud noises for less than 60 minutes a day or at less than 60 percent of the maximum volume of a device.

Avoid earbuds

For kids, over-the-ear headphones are, in general, better than in-the-canal buds for a few different reasons. First, earbuds sit closer to the eardrum, increasing sound volume by 6 to 9 decibels, says Dr. Zhao. “Over-the-ear headphones put the source of volume farther away, so they’re a little safer in terms of noise damage.” Second: Buds can cause other issues like wax impaction or lead to outer ear infections, she says; you have to be more adamant about cleaning them (something no parent wants to do).

Prioritize comfort, durability, and easy-to-use controls

Beyond preventing potential hearing damage, over-ear headphones are often the most comfortable for children, especially for long car rides or plane flights. Soft, cushioned ear cups and a padded headband can make them even comfier.

Durability is also important. Look for options with flexible headbands that can bend or twist without breaking and sturdy designs that can withstand being dropped or packed in a bag without a case. Lastly, a child's headset should be easy to control. This means minimal buttons or large ones they can press without a fuss, simple Bluetooth connectivity, and for younger kids, maybe a plug-in cable.

In short, yes. Bluetooth devices do emit a low level of non-ionizing radiation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notes that “routine exposure to non-ionizing radiation is generally perceived as harmless to humans.” While there is some data to suggest that non-ionizing radiation, when emitted in very high levels, may increase the risk of things like cancer, neurological disorders, cognitive impairments, or genetic damage, Dr. Zhao notes that “the data is very conflicting” and that there is “no long-term data to suggest cause.” The National Cancer Institute also states "there is currently no consistent evidence that non-ionizing radiation increases cancer risk in humans.” Bluetooth devices also emit anywhere from 100 to 1,000 times less electromagnetic non-ionizing radiation than cell phones, adds Dr. Zhao.

Noise cancellation can be important because when you're able to cancel outside noise, you’re able to listen at a lower volume by a few decibels, says Dr. Zhao. When you don't have noise cancellation, you're tempted to increase the volume to drown out that external volume and as a result, you're listening at a louder volume.

The 10 Best Headphones for Babies and Toddlers on Planes

travel headphones for baby

Traveling with kids can be a challenge, especially if you’re on a plane. There can be a lot of noise that can make napping a challenge. You’re also extremely limited to how much you can move and what you can do. That’s why many parents look for activities that will keep their babies and toddlers occupied. They bring along tablets to play with and movies to watch to pass the time.  Between technology and naps come the need for headphones. The people next to you don’t want to hear “Baby Shark” for hours!

Since babies are smaller and have different needs, their headphones are going to be different as well. You would be surprised at how many different types of headphones there are for babies.

Let’s take a look at why headphones for babies on planes are important, what to for when buying a pair, and of course, the best ones out there.

When you invest in a pair of headphones for babies on planes, you can also use them for other functions. Headphones can help at concerts and other events that may be loud and hurtful to babies’ ears. Here are a few of the reasons why your baby could use a pair.

Noise Protection

Headphones help to protect the ears from high decibels. The average conversation is at a range of 60 decibels. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine , regularly being around noise that’s more than 85 decibels can cause hearing loss.

If you give your baby or toddler headphones, you want to be sure that the volume is not that loud. Using low-volume headphones can help to prevent this from happening.

Noise-canceling headphones can not only help babies listen to devices at a reasonable level, but they can also help to drown out the noise on a plane. Many people also use them at fireworks displays. You don’t have to miss out on the fun, just protect your baby’s ears.

Headphones can also help children who have special needs . For many children with autism, too much sound can lead to a sensory meltdown. Controlling the sound with headphones can help.

When your baby and toddler use headphones, don’t keep them on for long periods of time. It’s recommended that babies don’t use headphones for more than two hours a day. So, if you are using them on a plane, perhaps you take a few breaks with books and snacks. This can make the ride more enjoyable for everyone.

How to Choose the Right Headphones for Babies on Planes

If you’ve been looking around, you’ll see just how many different types of headphones there are to choose from. These are the things you’ll want to consider:

One of the first things you’ll notice is that there are headphones for babies as well as earmuffs. We’re not talking about the earmuffs they can wear in the winter. Some earmuffs can block out sound. But, you can’t use them to plug into a device. Don’t get the two confused.

infant using headpones

When it comes to headphones for babies on planes, you want to look for ones that have a volume limiting function. This can help to make sure the sound doesn’t get too loud for your baby.

The next thing to consider is the size of the headphones. Many have adjustable headbands that fit over the baby’s head. You don’t want babies to wear earbuds. Stick with headphones. Look to see if the headphones fit over the ear or on the ear. The ones that fit over the ear keep the noise out best while the ones that fit on the ear are more comfortable, but allow more background noise to filter in.

Look to see if the headphones are wired or wireless. The wireless ones may come in handy with babies so that they’re not tugging on the cord. Also, you may want to keep the cost in mind. Look to see the age and size limit on the headphones to be sure you are getting the most value for your money.

Now that you know what to look for in the best headphones, here’s our list of the 10 best headphones for babies on planes.

CHOOSING THE BEST BABY HEADPHONES FOR AIRPLANES

When choosing the best baby headphones for flying, there were a few things that we considered. The most important factors are; noise reduction rating, comfort, weight, and portability.

Here are the things we considered when looking for the best headphones for babies on planes.

Noise Reduction Rating

Noise Reduction Rating  is a measure that determines how effective hearing protective devices are in reducing sound in a given environment. The highest level of NRR for the earmuffs in this article is 33 dB.

Although the math to determine noise reduction isn’t straightforward, having a higher NRR means more protection from outside noise, such as plane engines when flying with a baby.

If your baby is younger than 18 months, I recommend using the highest NRR headphones when flying with a baby. This will help protect their hearing until it is developed, which is around 2 years old.

Comfort is at the top because if your little one isn’t comfortable, they won’t wear the ear protection headphones.

To test the comfort level, we wore them on our ears for a few hours. If we didn’t like the way they felt, I’m sure a baby wouldn’t be a fan.

The more comfortable they are, the more likely your baby is to wear them without getting fussy.

Weight comes into play when your little one starts to lift their head.

We know how hard they work during tummy time, so if you plan on flying around the time they start to learn how to control their head, weight can be a factor.

Having lightweight baby headphones for flying will allow your baby to explore (look around) without getting frustrated.

If your little one isn’t an infant, weight isn’t as much of a factor.

A crucial element that all baby headphones for flying need to have are an adjustable head strap, cushion for their heads, and ear cups that do not put pressure on their heads. That is why the design is crucial when looking for the best baby airplane ear protection.

The design will determine if it is a good fit for your baby. Although some ear protection can be great for airplanes, be sure to look for infant headphones for flying.

Portability

We travel frequently and try to travel as lightly as possible, so having baby airplane headphones that fit inside our travel diaper bag is crucial. Although this isn’t an essential factor, it is something to be considered.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HEADPHONES FOR BABIES ON PLANES

Do babies need headphones on planes.

The answer to this question depends on your level of comfort flying with your baby without noise-canceling headphones.

Although babies do not NEED headphones on an airplane, I  highly recommend  buying baby headphones for flying.

As adults, we aren’t as bothered by the noise, but for a baby whose hearing is still developing, using infant headphones for flying is a good idea.

Do earmuffs help the baby on airplanes?

YES!!!  Baby headphones for airplanes are the best way to protect your little one’s ears/hearing.

Although ear muffs will not stop your baby’s ears from popping, they will protect your baby’s hearing, which is still developing until two years of age.

What helps baby ears on a plane?

If your baby is bothered by the altitude when flying (ears popping), sucking can help relieve the pressure. Having your baby breastfeed, suck a pacifier, or drink a bottle can help.

On the other hand, if you want to protect your baby’s ear from the noise on an airplane, having a quality pair of baby ear muffs for flying will help protect their ears.

These infant headphones for flying will help protect your baby’s hearing from the loud noise while on a flight.

Can babies wear noise-cancelling headphones?

YES!!!  Noise-cancelling headphones are the best way to protect your baby when flying.

Keep in mind, the noise-cancelling headphones we are referring to are meant to reduce outside noise, so these are regular headphones.

Babies cannot wear traditional headphones that we used to listen to music or movies. Regular headphones are not equipped to provide the proper hearing protection babies need.

They can, however, wear baby ear muffs for flying. These are headphones just for babies on planes or in loud environments, like the ones we’ve listed above.

Headphones For Easy Traveling With Babies And Toddlers

Traveling with babies and toddlers is stressful. But being prepared can help reduce some of that stress. When traveling on planes or even trains, buses, and cars, headphones for your kids can make all the difference in the world. Don’t believe me? Just take a peek at the kids on the planes who are the quietest. I’m willing to bet they have headphones on! Maybe they got them as a gift for new parents or planned ahead.

With that being said, I need to be honest . When I flew with my toddler for the first time, I knew we needed headphones that would work on an iPad. So I just bought the first pair I saw. I have since learned that was a huge mistake! Headphones can be a sanity saver for parents, but they also need to provide quality hearing loss protection for kids.

Unfortunately, there are several kid’s headphones and cheap headphones on the market today that are designed more for looks than for sound protection. Once I knew better, I wanted to do better. Headphones for babies flying need to be comfortable and fit! So, we researched the best headphones for babies and toddlers on planes, buses , or anywhere, and I am here to present the best ones from my research so you don’t make the same mistake I did.

Headphone-Resized

Benefits of Headphones (Or Why Your Little Ones Need Them)

How To Choose Headphones For Your Babies/Toddlers

The Best Baby & Toddler Headphones

And the Runners Up Are…

  • Noise level Protection.  The foremost benefit of headphones is protection from high decibels. For example, OSHA recommends limiting your exposure to 85 decibels per eight hours, but less is better. The issue is that there is a growing trend of noise-induced hearing loss among youth . Since parents cannot check the decibel level constantly, headphones that offer protection can ease your worries. While you may be using headphones to protect your baby from sounds on a plane or at a concert, children also run the risk of listening to sounds on their electronic devices at high volumes. Children would rather hear the sound from their show or game on the device than turn the noise down to an appropriate level. Low volume headphones prevent children from listening at unhealthy volumes.
  • Multifunctional . Noise-cancelling headphones are great for plane travel , but they can be used in many other places such as fireworks displays, concerts, or sporting events.  Wasn’t planning on taking kids to these activities? You want to still have a life after children right?
  • Special Needs Compatible.  Noise blocking headphones can also keep sounds muted for those with auditory processing issues. For example, children with autism struggle from too much stimulation (such as loud noises).  Appropriate headphones can help prevent sensory meltdowns.
  • Fear Management.   Once in awhile they also come in handy to help calm children’s fears. For instance, many children do not like loud noises like 4 th of July fireworks. With noise cancelling headphones, they can enjoy the beautiful firework display without feeling anxious. Or, as you travel , they can help calm your child’s fears of strange, loud noises.

How To Choose Headphones That Suit Your Babies/Toddlers

As I mentioned earlier, there are some cheap headphones that do not offer the protection or quality noise blocking features your child needs. There are a few primary features to look for as you shop for toddler headphones.

  • Type of Protection: There is a difference between ear muffs and headphones. Ear muffs aren’t just for the winter, there are actually safety ear muffs for hearing protection. They do not connect to audio – they simply muff noise. In contrast most headphones do not offer complete noise blocking like ear muffs do; however, headphones may offer volume limiting features and a design that blocks background sounds. For this piece, we are looking at headphones rather than ear muffs. If you are looking for ear muffs for traveling with your infant, I suggest you check out Baby Banz listed in our runner-up category.
  • Volume Limiting: The headphones should have a limiting feature that does not allow the volume to go above 85 decibels. Some headphones actually have a lower setting at 70 decibels. However, you will find that many headphones do allow the decibels to extend past 85 decibels, but quality headphones should feature volume control.
  • Size: Children (especially babies) should not wear earbuds. Instead, they need headphones that cover their ears (either on or over) with a headband that fits their small child-sized heads. Headphones for 2 year olds are going to be smaller than bigger kids' headphones.
  • Connection: Wired or wireless headphones need to have a clear way to connect to your devices. You can choose between bluetooth headphones and wired headphones for your child.
  • Ear Cups: Headphones for kids either fit over the ear (offering the most noise cancellation) or fit on the ear (more comfortable, but allows more background noise to filter in).
  • Overall Look: This is not a deal breaker, but some parents find they have an easier time getting their children to wear headphones if they look “cool” or “fun.”
  • Cost: The cost for headphones designed specifically for young children varies. Ultimately, you should choose the headphones that are the best quality your budget will allow.

The quality components extend to the leather ear cushions, leaving it harder for your toddler to tear apart.  They’re also designed for children two and older, so the built in microphone can be used for phone calls.  Adults with smaller heads can even use these headphones.

travel headphones for baby

  • Durable polycarbonate construction
  • Connect multiple headphones to one device without splitter
  • Foldability adds a little vulnerability to the headband

A top-rated pair of toddler headphones, the Lilgadgets Connect, includes volume limiting at 93 decibels, but still manages to have quality sound. Another reason this pair stands out is because it includes a shareport so you can hook up two sets of headphones to the same device. They are comfortable and designed to fit toddlers and even recommended up to age 8.

Lil Gadget has a few other models, but we chose these for toddlers.  For example, Lil Gadget Connect uses different materials and is smaller in size than Wireless Lil Gadget.  The cable is lengthy and detacheable, allowing space for your child to move around with ease. They are also perfect for traveling as they are foldable and come with a travel pouch.  Customer service also seems great for any issues.

With special shareport technology, multiple headphones can be used to connect to one device without a splitter, allowing your kids to watch the same movie.

Another reason parents love Lilgadgets – a portion of their proceeds goes to bullying prevention. So, you can feel good about the purchase as you are protecting your little one’s hearing and helping prevent bullying.

Onanoff Explore Buddy Phones - Most Comfortable Toddler Earphones

travel headphones for baby

  • Lightweight and foldable
  • Comes with built in audio splitter
  • Microphone included
  • Likely too small for older kids

Explore Buddy Phones come in several bright colors with a variety of stickers allowing children to customize their headphones. These volume limiting headphones have a limiter that is always set to 85 decibels. They are designed to be both comfortable and durable, with padding along the top band as well as earpieces. They also feature an audio splitter so multiple headphones can be connected to the same device. Plus, they are light enough and small enough to fit in your bags as you travel.  You can choose between a foldable and unfoldable version.

The Explore style is designed to fit toddlers, so your child will eventually outgrow them. But, they can work well while children are in the toddler stage.

travel headphones for baby

  • Comfortable for kids who hate earphones
  • Headband feature means sweaty foreheads

The newest headphone trend is the headband trend. CozyPhones headphones are cute, animal headphones that wrap around your child’s forehead. So, it depends on the circumference of your child’s head to determine when he/she will be able to wear these fun headphones. The headbands are comfortable, which means they work well for children with sensory issues. Another selling point is that they are excellent for travel because they are so small.

When your children beg for these “cool” headphones, here is what you need to know. They will make your child’s forehead hot and sweaty.

Baby Banz – If you are looking for ear muffs rather than headphones for a child two and under, then Baby Banz are the best choice. These are not headphones because they do not have any audio connections; however, if you want noise eliminating ear muffs for babies, then Baby Banz is the most popular brand on the market.

Califone Over the Ear  – Another choice your kids will want due to the cute animal designs on the ear covers, these are one of the cheapest headphones offering volume control.

Polaroid On-Ear Kid-Safe Headphones  – The cheapest headphones offering volume limiting.

I'll admit that I'm a little overprotective of my child (but what mama bear isn't?).  Maybe it's also a matter of age, because when I goto the gym I've realized that even the music during spin class gets a little loud.

Since kids are using headphones at such a young age now, I would like fellow parents to know the most protective solutions!    While babies will benefit the most from a pair of noise-blocking earmuffs, your toddlers will be more appreciative of audio headphones while traveling. In addition to providing hearing loss protection, volume limiting headphones are great tools for helping ease children’s fears and anxieties by blocking out loud unfamiliar sounds.

A happy child makes for a happy trip!

Thanks for sharing this very informative blog. As a hearing health advocate, I agree that kids need protection especially if you plan to expose them to activities that has so much noise, like concerts and travelling. It is very important to know the best headphones that is safe for your kids.

Glad you shared this. Cheers!

Thanks for the comment! I think not enough adults are informed about the dangers of hearing loss. Sometimes I even walk into a gym class and think the music is too loud haha.

Thank you Debbie for this wonderful informative post. I never thought about how sound affects my child. I wish I read your post years ago when my child would constantly be overwhelmed traveling. I will definitely be putting headphones on the list of gift- to-give friend’s babies and toddlers. Do you have any recommendations for the child who doesn’t like things put on their head or on their ears?

Hi Carolyn- That’s a difficult one, because children can certainly rip things off their heads if they want! If it doesn’t work at first, sometimes we just have to keep trying. Putting on an interesting show is usually one way to lure kids, or letting them choose earphones they like. For example the Cozyphones headphones mentioned in the post are more like a headband, and kids might like the characters.

6 Best Headphones for Babies and Children, Tested by Little Ears

profile picture of Korin Miller

In a nutshell:

Based on the author’s product testing, we chose Mumba Baby Earmuffs as the overall best baby headphones, due to a combination of their high levels of noise protection and our child tester’s eagerness to wear them.

You strive to keep baby safe and sound, whether they’re resting in their crib , sitting in their car seat or crawling around at home . But there’s one important measure you might be forgetting: Investing in baby ear protection.

Baby headphones, also known as noise-canceling headphones for babies, shield little ones from disruptive and harmful noise, which is more prevalent than you may think. “Children are more sensitive to loud sounds than adults, so headphones can keep your child comfortable. But they can also help protect children from noise-induced hearing loss,” says Michelle Neidleman Kennedy , AUD, an audiologist and tinnitus expert in New Jersey. The best baby headphones work by reducing noise. By doing so, they prevent ear damage and can even “allow baby to sleep while in a loud environment,” adds Neidleman Kennedy.

I’m a mom of four kids, ranging in age from 1 to 10, and I sometimes need to take my younger children into louder-than-preferred spots to keep up with their big brothers. My family put several top baby noise-canceling headphones to the test to see how they stacked up against the competition. Overall, I found that some kids are simply more comfortable with the idea of wearing baby headphones than others. It takes practice and patience to get most children to wear baby headphones—and some of these devices are more baby-friendly than others.

Keep reading to learn all about baby headphones, then browse what we determined are the best options on the market.

How We Tested and Chose the Best Baby Headphones

travel headphones for baby

Baby headphones are an important purchase. Here’s how we arrived at our choices:

We tested the top noise-canceling headphones for babies and children with multiple kids, including a 5-month-old, a one-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 10-year-old. The headphones were worn sitting up and lying down, and we turned on loud music and had older children describe how effective they were at blocking loud noises, and evaluated the headphones for ease of fitting and adjusting, comfort, ability to stay in place, noise reduction, features and value for money.

We consulted with an audiologist for information on what to look for in baby headphones, as well as important elements to consider.

Every family’s experience with a product is unique, which is why we conducted exhaustive market research, scouring forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents across the country looked for in baby headphones, and how well these models worked for their children.

Editorial integrity is at the heart of everything we publish. Read about how The Bump develops and reviews all articles , including product reviews.

Best Baby Headphones

Overall best baby headphones.

Mumba Baby Earmuffs

  • High NRR rating
  • Several colorways
  • Durable materials
  • No carrying case
  • May leave marks on baby’s head after long use

The Mumba Baby Earmuffs regularly receive high marks from parents thanks to their high noise reduction rating (NRR) rating of 31 decibels and lightweight feel. But to me, these stood out from the pack for a very important reason: my anti-headphone one-year-old actually liked them!

The headphones, which are designed for kids aged 3 months to 2+ years, have soft ear cups, and don’t feel tight once they’re in place. The headband has built-in padding as well to prevent friction on baby’s head. They also have a wide range of color combinations to make them appealing for little ones—my daughter even smiled while wearing them, which was a rarity during testing. Mumba’s baby ear muffs performed well during noise testing as well: As I blasted music, my 4-year-old complained that she couldn’t hear it.

These headphones are relatively easy to adjust, although it takes a little force. I recommend making the adjustment before putting them on your child’s head. They also are not difficult to put on—just put them over your child’s ears, headband-style, and move on. The fit is snug once they’re on, making it tough for kids without good hand-eye coordination to remove. Mumba’s headphones don’t come with a carrying case, but they’re durable. During testing, they made it through being thrown across the room and landing on hard flooring with no scratches or dents.

Material: Leather, plastic | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean

Our product tester says:

“The ear cups are cushiony and soft, and my daughter wore them for longer than the others. She even smiled!”

Best headphones for younger kids

Alpine Muffy Baby Ear Protection

  • Anti-slip headband
  • Included travel bag
  • Relatively easy to adjust
  • Finding ideal placement takes time
  • May be too small for older toddlers

The reality of baby headphones is that there is often a learning curve to get your child to wear them. Still, anything you can do to get them on and keep them in place is a win. The Alpine Muffy Baby headphones have several layers in place to help keep them on baby’s head, including a stretchy, soft anti-slip headband. The headphones require a little assembly on your part when they arrive, but that was easier than I anticipated. Just thread the headband through an opening in the cup and secure a special flap on top. The process is the same when you need to adjust the positioning of the ear cups, which I would recommend doing when they’re not on your child’s head.

My 1-year-old was not impressed with the feeling of the elastic headband, but my friend’s 5-month-old tolerated them just fine. My older kids also reported that the Muffy Baby headphones were comfortable to wear. The Alpine Muffy Baby headphones have a lower NRR rating of 23 dB, but my 4-year-old had trouble hearing loud music when they were in place. Another nice perk of these headphones is the included carrying case. It’s roomy enough for the headphones, along with a binky or two—perfect for travel.

Material: Plastic, polyester | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean

“The headband is thick, and the ear cups are tough.”

Best budget-friendly headphones

ProCase Baby Ear Protection

  • Easy to adjust
  • Several color options
  • Lower NRR rating
  • Ear cups feel firmer than others

While the ProCase Baby Ear Protection headphones have slightly less features than the competition, they’re proof that it’s possible to get a decent pair of baby headphones for $10. These headphones are easy to adjust and have padding around the ear cups and band. That padding felt a little more firm and slid around more than counterparts on more expensive models, but it still got the job done.

ProCase’s headphones have a lower NRR rating of 22 dB, but our kid testers say they still noticeably reduced noise. Despite their low price tag, the headphones are sturdy and survived being thrown across the room by a one-year-old. These headphones come in blue, pink, and sky blue, giving parents options to choose from. At almost a third of a pound, these felt slightly heavier than similar styles we tried, but it was nothing that was obvious to our kid testers.

Material: Sponge, plastic | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with neutral detergent or warm water

“These are much cheaper than the competition. They're a little heavier than others and the ear cups are slightly more firm, but they're a decent comparison.”

Best noise-canceling headphones for toddlers

Muted Kids Noise Canceling Ear Muffs

  • Broad age range
  • Fun designs
  • Soft padding
  • Adjustment requires a little force

At nearly $30, the Muted Kids Noise Canceling Ear Muffs are on the higher price end of baby headphones. But my choosy one-year-old liked them—and willingly wore them the longest out of all the headphones we tested, making the price tag worth it to me. Once a child hits the toddler years, and is reliably able to grasp and pull things off their head, you need their cooperation to keep headphones on their noggins. Muted headphones come in a series of fun patterns that kids are drawn to, which could make it more likely that your child, like mine, will want to wear them.

The headphones feature an NRR rating of 27 dB and feature soft ear cups that create a tight but comfortable fit. They don’t slip once they’re in place, and did a good job blocking out loud music, according to our older kid testers. Muted’s headphones have a durable structure that survived landing on a hardwood floor. And, while they didn’t come with an included carrying case, they’re strong enough to toss in a backpack or bag and tote around.

Material: Plastic | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean

“My daughter kept these on and wore them several times, which was impressive! I think the pattern was what drew her in, but they were comfortable enough for her to continue to wear them.”

Best long-lasting baby headphones

JLab JBuddies Protect Earmuffs

  • Can be worn from infant to teenage years
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Hinges vulnerable to bending

Many products for babies will only last so long, but the JLab JBuddies Protect Earmuffs have an impressive lifespan that’s designed to guard your child’s hearing through the teenage years. Both my one-year-old and my 10-year-old could wear these—and I was surprised to find they fit on me, too!

Our kid testers reported that these were the most comfortable headphones we tried. The JLab JBuddies headphones are easy to adjust, with ear cups that go up and down as needed. The headphones have a lower NRR rating of 23 dB; our kid testers shared that they still could hear some noise when the headphones were in place, but it was softer than normal. While the headphones are durable and survived the throw test, they also have a lifetime warranty for the just in case. The only potential issue is the hinges around the ear cups. They’re sturdy-feeling, but they do seem to be more vulnerable than the rest of the headphones. These headphones are foldable, making for a nice space-saving feature.

Material: Foam, plastic metal | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean

“These headphones were some of the most comfortable ones we tested. The ear cups are soft and cushiony and the headphones don't feel tight when they're on.”

Best durable baby headphones

Baby Banz Hear No Blare Earmuffs

  • 10 colors and patterns
  • Sturdy design
  • Higher price tag

Baby Banz is a big name in the baby headphones world—they’ve shown up on a slew of famous kids, including Prince George. And while they might be fit for royalty, they’re also notable for being extremely durable. Our kid testers threw these headphones across the room and onto hard flooring with no visible damage or scratching.

Baby Banz are simple to use, with the ability to make fine adjustments before placing these headphones on your child. Our kid testers reported that these headphones were comfortable, and that they softened noise when loud music was on. With an NRR rating of 31 dB, the Baby Banz earmuffs were one of the most protective pairs we tested. The headphones don’t come with a carrying case but, given their durability, I would feel confident tossing these in a backpack and carrying them along with other loose stuff. At just 6.7 ounces, Baby Banz are lightweight, too. You can choose from 10 different colors and patterns to find one that suits your little one.

Material: Neoprene, plastic | Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean

“These headphones are sturdy. They survived being thrown across the room and onto hardwood flooring several times with no problem. There are no obvious parts that could break off, and the headphones held up great.”

When Should Infants Wear Baby Headphones?

Any noise above 85 decibels (dB)—a measurement of a sound—poses a risk to a child’s health and calls for baby headphones. (This decibel level is on par with the sound of heavy traffic.) “Noise-induced hearing loss can occur after only a few minutes without hearing protection,” Neidleman Kennedy says. For that matter, you should consider getting earplugs for yourself too. “If your child needs to wear headphones, it’s also too loud for you or your older children, so consider wearing noise protection as well,” Neidleman Kennedy adds. “Adults can use foam ear plugs or get custom noise plugs that are conformed to their ears.” There are several common settings that are usually super-noisy. The average sporting event, for example, can be 105 dB or higher. Other potentially dangerous environments include (but aren’t limited to):

Large events like weddings, concerts and parades

Busy environments like restaurants

Public transportation like airplanes and subways

Unsure if a place is too loud for baby’s ears? Neidleman Kennedy recommends downloading a sound level meter app for guidance (Decibel X is free, highly-rated and available on iOS and Android devices.) When in doubt, play it safe and opt for baby ear protection.

What to Look for in Baby Headphones

The best baby headphones have a few key features you’ll want to keep an eye out for: “Parents should look for headphones that can be adjusted to fit comfortably and snugly over their child’s ears and head,” Neidleman Kennedy says. Additionally, there are NRR levels on headphones, which reflect how much the headphones are lowering the noise level. The higher the number, the more noise reduction. Neidleman Kennedy advises selecting headphones with an NRR rating close to 30 dB. Last but not least, stick to earmuff- or headband-style baby headphones that can be adjusted to ensure a snug, comfortable fit.

Most younger babies will wear baby headphones, although some will protest more than others. For toddlers, consider choosing a pair of headphones in a bright color or pattern to make them more appealing.

The 13 Best Baby Noise-Canceling Headphones (plus Infant Headphones for Flying)

Choosing the right pair of baby noise-canceling headphones.

If you haven’t yet read our Definitive Guide on Baby Noise-Canceling Headphones , give it a read and then come back to this post.

When choosing a pair of Baby Noise-Cancelling Headphones, including for airplane travel, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Size and Fit

Make sure the headphones are the right size, ie specifically designed for your baby’s head and ears.

They should fit snugly but not be too tight. And they shouldn’t leave marks when you take them off – that means they were too tight.

2. Noise Reduction Level

Consider the level of noise reduction you need. Some headphones offer more advanced noise-canceling technology than others.

3. Safety and Comfort

Your baby’s headphones must be safe and comply with relevant standards where you live.

Ensure you carefully read the manufacturer’s information, so you know the specifications of the headphones and how you should use them.

Choose comfortable headphones for your baby to wear, with soft ear cups and a lightweight design, as well as more protection for your baby’s delicate head.

4. Durability

Look for headphones that are durable and can withstand wear and tear.

Babies and toddlers can be rough with their toys, so you want to ensure the headphones can handle accidental drops or tugs.

Some headphones come in a foldable design that also makes transportation easier for you.

5. Battery Life

Consider the battery life if you’re looking for a pair of active noise-canceling headphones. You don’t want the headphones to die in the middle of a long car ride or plane trip.

Check out our Guide on Baby Noise-Canceling Headphones: Protect Your Little One’s Ears if you want more information on baby noise-canceling headphones.

The best headphones for flying with infants and babies

Airplane travel can be a stressful experience for babies and young children. The loud noises, air pressure changes, and cramped spaces can be overwhelming and uncomfortable.

To help alleviate some of the stress, many parents bring headphones for their babies, infants, toddlers, and children to wear during the flight.

Protecting Baby’s Hearing During A Flight – My Tips as a Mom

  • Use noise-cancelling headphones: The noisy environment of the plane can be overwhelming for babies and young children. Use noise-cancelling headphones to help block the noise and create a more comfortable environment.
  • Choose volume-limiting headphones: Make sure the headphones have volume-limiting features to protect your child’s hearing. It’s recommended that the headphones have a maximum volume of 85 decibels.
  • Breastfeed or bottle-feed during takeoff and landing: The sucking motion can help to alleviate the pressure changes in your baby’s ears during airplane rides, particularly during early age when they can’t tell you what is wrong.
  • Use earplugs: If your child doesn’t want to wear headphones, you can use earplugs instead to effectively block out the noise for then.
  • Consider a pacifier: Sucking on a pacifier can help to alleviate the ear-popping pressure changes in your baby’s ears.

Choosing the best headphones for flying with infants and babies can help make the experience more comfortable and less stressful for you and your child. When choosing headphones, consider comfort, noise reduction, volume-limiting, durability, and size.

Additionally, there are other ways to protect your baby’s hearing during a flight, such as breastfeeding or bottle-feeding during takeoff and landing, using earplugs, and considering a pacifier.

Check out our Definitive Guide on Baby Noise-Cancelling Headphones for more information on these important items.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. at what age can babies wear headphones.

Many headphones are designed for children ages 3 and up, but some options are available for babies as young as 3 months old.

Choosing headphones that fit your child’s head properly and have volume-limiting features to protect their hearing is important.

Consult the manufacturer’s recommendations and discuss their use with your Doctor or Paediatrician.

2. Can noise-canceling headphones harm a baby’s hearing?

No, noise-canceling headphones should not harm your baby’s hearing. They can help to protect your baby’s ears from the loud noises of the airplane during takeoff and landing.

3. Can flying damage my baby’s hearing?

The changes in air pressure during takeoff and landing can cause discomfort and pressure in your baby’s ears, but it is unlikely to cause permanent damage to their hearing.

However, taking precautions to protect their hearing during a flight, such as using headphones with volume-limiting features, is still important.

4. Do babies need ear protection for flying?

While not necessary, ear protection such as noise-canceling headphones or earplugs can help to make the flight more comfortable for your baby by blocking out the loud noises of the airplane.

5. Why is my baby wearing noise-canceling headphones and still screaming?

If you have gone through the list of “usual suspects” that make your baby scream (eg hungry, dirty nappy etc), consider whether you are in the take-off or landing phase of the flight.

It is possible that your baby is getting earaches from the pressure changes.

Other techniques, such as breastfeeding or bottle-feeding during takeoff and landing or giving them something to eat if they are older, can help to alleviate the pressure changes in their ears.

6. How do I choose the best noise-canceling headphones for my baby?

When choosing noise-canceling headphones for your baby, consider comfort, noise reduction, volume-limiting, durability, and size. Look for lightweight, padded, and adjustable headphones to ensure a comfortable fit for your baby.

Additionally, choose headphones with volume-limiting features to protect their hearing and are durable enough to withstand travel.

Best Travel Headphones

Whether you're a jet setter or just taking the subway to work every day, a good pair of travel headphones can be a total game-changer. Having something comfortable with great noise isolation can make your travels much easier to endure and even enjoyable at times.

When looking for travel headphones, you'll want something easy to use when hunting down your gate or running to catch a bus, with a long enough battery life to last you throughout the day. While many prefer over-ear headphones for long flights or train rides, earbuds or in-ear headphones are popular for their portability. Usually, models with active noise cancelling (ANC) do the best job at reducing the deep rumbling noises of bus or plane engines, but some in-ear headphones block out lots of noise passively.

We've tested over 775 pairs of headphones, and below are our recommendations for the best headphones for airplane use, traveling, and commuting. Also, make sure to check out our recommendations for the  best headphones , the  best noise cancelling headphones , and the best budget noise cancelling headphones .

Best Travel Headphones

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless Design Picture

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless are the best travel headphones we've tested. These top-of-the-line over-ears have a very comfortable fit and are suitable for long trips. They are equipped with powerful ANC and can block out a wide array of sounds, including the low rumble of bus and plane engines. And with their ANC on, they last 29 hours continuously, so you don't need to worry about running out of battery life. Unfortunately, the headphones need to be powered on if you want to use them wired, but at least you can plug them into in-flight entertainment without losing ANC.

These well-built over-ears have a bass-rich sound out of the box, delivering extra thump, rumble, and boom to your favorite tracks. You can adjust their sound to your liking using their companion app's graphic EQ and presets. You can even access a head-tracking feature for a more dimensional audio experience. Additionally, you can connect these headphones with up to two devices at a time, so you can stay connected to your smartphone and laptop simultaneously, and they come with a sturdy, durable carrying case to keep them safe in your bag.

Best Upper Mid-Range Travel Headphones

Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Design Picture

For something premium at a less steep price, try the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless. Even though they've been replaced by the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless and are getting harder to find in stock, these still provide the best noise cancelling performance for long journeys. Their fantastic ANC feature blocks bass-range noises like bus and plane engines and passenger chit-chat. They also last about 37 hours continuously, so you won't need to recharge them during a long trip. You can even use them wired while keeping ANC on, and they come with an airplane adapter, all of which you can safely store in their sturdy carrying case.

They have a lightweight and well-padded fit, though the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless still have the edge regarding comfort. However, you can wear them during long trips without experiencing too much fatigue. Their bass-heavy sound profile adds extra thump and rumble to your audio, and if you prefer a different sound, you can also tweak them via their app's graphic EQ and presets.

If you need to take calls on the go, it's worth considering the Razer Barracuda Pro Wireless . They're hybrid headphones designed for casual use as well as gaming but have a sleek design that doesn't stand out from the crowd. Their integrated mic offers a better overall performance, so your voice sounds clear and natural. However, their ANC system doesn't block out quite as much ambient noise as that of the Sony.

Best Mid-Range Travel Headphones

Anker Soundcore Space Q45 Wireless Design Picture

Travel is expensive enough without adding the cost of premium headphones. Fortunately, if you're looking for something more affordable, check out the Anker Soundcore Space Q45 Wireless, the best headphones for airplane trips we've tested at this price point. They have a shorter battery life than the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless and aren't quite as comfortable or well-built. However, they have an adaptive ANC system that adjusts itself to the noise around you and can block out a remarkable amount of ambient sound, including rumbling engines. Their overall noise isolation performance is even almost as good as the Sony.

Out of the box, they have a V-shaped sound profile with extra emphasis in the bass and treble, which lends your audio with intense rumble and punch, while instruments and vocals are bright and somewhat harsh. There's a companion app with graphic EQ and presets if you prefer a different sound. They last for around 27 hours continuously with their ANC on, and in a pinch, you can always plug the included audio cable into your phone or laptop to listen to audio passively.

Best Budget Travel Headphones

Anker Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless Design Picture

If you're looking for a cheaper option, the Anker Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless are the best commuter headphones under $100 we've tested. Anker tends to dominate the mid-to-budget price range for over-ear headphones, especially when noise cancelling is important for use on a noisy plane or train. These headphones are significantly cheaper than the Anker Soundcore Space Q45 Wireless , but their ANC performs similarly, even though it's standard ANC and not adaptive. It does a fantastic job of blocking out the low rumble of engines and effectively reduces higher-pitched sounds like voices. Out of the box, their sound packs a lot of extra bass into your audio, so music has intense thump, rumble, and punch, but mixes can also sound muddy or cluttered. Like the previous pick, they have companion app support, including a graphic EQ and presets for sound customization.

These headphones are well-built and comfortable and have a long continuous battery life of around 44 hours. Unfortunately, they leak much more audio than the Q45, so your music is more likely to be audible to people nearby, especially if you like to listen at louder volumes. The Wyze Noise-Cancelling Headphones Wireless are also a good option if you want budget-friendly headphones with less leakage. They don't isolate from bass-range noise, like rumbling engines, as well as the Q30, but they still have a great overall noise isolation performance.

Best Cheap Travel Headphones

Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Wireless Design Picture

If you're on a tighter budget, the best cheap travel headphones we've tested are the Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Wireless. These are an earlier version of the Anker Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless that are still available. Like their successor, they outshine similarly priced headphones from other brands in noise cancelling. Their ANC system doesn't block out as much bass-range noise as the previous picks but still does a decent job of reducing engine noise. It also does a great job of reducing higher-pitched sounds like background conversations.

They have a V-shaped sound profile out of the box, with intense rumble and punch in the bass, bright and sparkly instruments, and lead vocals in the treble. This sound suits bass-heavy genres like EDM, hip-hop, pop, and rock. However, sibilants like S and T sounds can seem harsh, and they don't have sound customization features, unlike the Q30. That said, they have a similarly comfortable fit and a decently sturdy build quality, although they feel plasticky and only come with a cloth pouch instead of a rigid protective case like the Q30.

Best Travel Earbuds

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Truly Wireless Design Picture

Over-ears can be bulky and take up precious space in your bag or carry-on. If you're looking for something smaller and more portable, earbuds like the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Truly Wireless are worth checking out. They're comfortable and come with a selection of ear tips and stability fins to help you find the best fit for your needs. Their compact design also makes it easy to toss them into your pocket. If their bass-heavy default sound profile isn't to your tastes, you can revamp it using their companion app's EQ and presets.

Like the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless , they can block out a significant amount of ambient noise, thanks to their ANC system. They easily tackle common commuter noise like rumbly buses and trains as well as ambient chatter. While their seven-hour continuous playback time falls short compared to over-ear headphones, their carrying case holds an extra three charges if needed. They don't support multi-device pairing, so if you want to stay connected to your smartphone while working on your laptop, try the Sony WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless . They aren't quite as comfortable, though.

If you're looking for more earbuds, check out our recommendations for the best noise cancelling earbuds !

  • Apple AirPods Max Wireless: The Apple AirPods Max Wireless headphones have a premium design and a remarkably effective ANC feature, but they don't fold into a more compact design. Unlike the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless, they come with a carrying sleeve, which doesn't completely cover the headphones and won't protect them from significant damage. See our review
  • Bose 700 Headphones Wireless: The Bose 700 Headphones Wireless are premium ANC headphones designed for business professionals. If you care about call quality, their mic offers significantly better overall performance than the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless. However, their ANC doesn't block out as much bass-range noise, but they still do an excellent job of reducing ambient noise around you overall. See our review
  • Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 3: The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 are wireless earbuds with a longer continuous battery life than the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Truly Wireless. They're cheaper but less comfortable, and their ANC isn't as effective, particularly when blocking out low-pitched noise like rumbling engines. See our review
  • Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) Truly Wireless: The Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) Truly Wireless have a more premium build than the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Truly Wireless, which you might appreciate, considering the price of either pair. They have an excellent noise isolation performance but don't block out as much noise as the Bose, and they have an even shorter battery life. See our review

Mar 04, 2024: As the Razer Barracuda Pro Wireless are the same price as the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless, we've removed the Razer as a separate pick and added them as a comparison to the Sony since they can be a viable choice if you care about call quality. We've also renamed the Anker Soundcore Space Q45 Wireless as the 'Best Mid-Range Travel Headphones' we've tested.

Jan 08, 2024: We've made the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Wireless our top pick as they have a versatile performance and slightly outperform the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless. We also replaced the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II Truly Wireless with the next generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Truly Wireless.

Nov 02, 2023: Confirmed accuracy and availability of our picks. Some minor text edits for clarity.

Sep 06, 2023: Added the Sony WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless as an alternative to the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II Truly Wireless. Moved the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) Truly Wireless to Notable Mentions.

Jul 13, 2023: We've made minor changes to the text of this article to improve its clarity, but our picks have remained the same.

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best noise cancelling headphones for travel for most people to buy. We factor in the price (cheaper headphones win over pricier ones if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no headphones that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to choose for yourself, here is the list of all our reviews for headphones, ranked by their suitability for commuting and traveling. Be careful not to get caught up in the details. There are no perfect headphones. Personal taste, preference, and listening habits will matter more in your selection, especially if you listen to audio at high enough volumes to drown out the ambient noise of your travels.

When looking for the best travel headphones, we're slightly adjusting our priorities compared to looking for more general headphones. We're looking for portability, battery life and, of course, active noise cancellation (ANC) more than we might otherwise. For those looking for the best airplane headphones, the option of a wired connection becomes crucial too, for those in-flight movies.

This list of the best travel headphones overlaps heavily with the best noise-cancelling headphones , but focusing more on their battery life, whether they have a folding lightweight design, and making sure they have a 3.5mm jack. Over-ear headphones are better at ANC than wireless earbuds, and wireless buds don't have wired connections, s headphones are our first pick – but best noise-cancelling earbuds have a huge portability advantage, so we've included those too (and one of them actually can handle a wired connection).

Our reviewers have tested all of these travel headphones on the exact kinds of transport we're talking about – our recommendations are based on real-world use for flights, trains, buses and even the occasional boat.

I've been reviewing tech for 14 years, and for pretty much all that time I've been testing headphones and speakers. As one of TechRadar's most frequent travellers, I've tested a ton of headphones and earbuds on flights and train rides, and I've used experience to choose the headphones that best fit the particular priorities of people flying or taking other long journeys.

The best travel headphones overall

A man wearing a pair of the sony wh-1000xm4 headphones

1. Sony WH-1000XM4

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

The Sony WH-1000 range has gone from strength to noise-cancelling strength with each iteration. While the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are now available, the 2020 XM4s still offer an incredible combination of brilliant ANC and enjoyably balanced audio quality from a lightweight set of folding cans. You could shell out the extra for the latest model but these are a significantly better buy for being slightly older.

For travel especially, the noise cancelling here is exceptional. You’ll only realize just how loud that plane engine hum actually is when you take these off. This is thanks to Sony’s proprietary processor, which is constantly sampling the world around you and adjusting the noise cancellation accordingly. And not only will intrusive noises disappear but the pleather cups are cosy and comfortable even for long haul journeys, making the Sony WH-1000XM4s our top pick for the very best travel headphones, even though the newer Sony WH-1000XM5 is available – that model lacks the folding design, and is more expensive without being a big leap better.

Sony WH-CH520N headphones held in a hand

2. Sony WH-CH720N

Sony's more affordable counterpart to its flagship 'XM' model can be found for under $150/£100, but delivers very impressive audio quality regardless, especially when it comes to detail and overall balance. Instruments are crisp, treble and bass both get to shine in their own way, and the mid-range is warm and full.

The noise cancellation really helps clamp down on the volume of outside sounds so that you can hear dialog in a movie on a plane, in our experience, though it does leak in noticeably more sound overall than the higher-end options here (both in terms of over-ear headphones and earbuds), so we had to significantly turn up the volume on a quiet, speech-heavy movie on a plane compared to those options. But it's as good as anything else available for the price.

They're very lightweight and are generally comfortable to use for long periods, which means we can forgive them for not folding. They don't feel as premium as other options here, but again, that's fine. The wired option is very welcome for plane use, and the quoted 35-hour battery life is essentially on the money in our experience.

The best travel headphones for elite noise cancellation

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

3. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

These are, perhaps, the ultimate travel companion – with just one flaw that might put you off. They check so many boxes, with their best-in-class active noise cancellation at the center of the success. We found in our testing that nothing else stops the hubbub of a city or traffic around you so effectively – though we did find that they reacted oddly to extremely loud sounds (sitting by a bus engine on a hill, and during plane take-off) with some very robotic output. But we were happy to forgive these moments, since they're so good the rest of the time.

And on top of that, you get truly exceptional audio quality that's more exciting, precise and detailed than anything else in this list. They're capable of deep, velvety bass and delicate, elevated treble, with plenty of expression and clarity through the mid-range. And on top of this, they have a spatial audio mode that does a good job of feeling like the sound isn't being pumped right into your ears, from any source, which can help flights to feel less claustrophobic.

And they do all this in a fairly light design that folds up for travel, so they're great for your carry-on (and they come with a hard cases). The only real downside? The 24-hour battery life is lower than other over-ear headphones here, though it's still enough to make it through the vast majority of flights, of course. Just remember to charge when you land. All of this comes at a high price compared to the other headphones here, though we think it's well worthwhile if you can stretch to it. (If not, the non-Ultra Bose QuietComfort Headphones offer very nearly as good ANC for cheaper, and are still light and foldable).

The best travel headphones for huge battery life

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless held in hand on gray background

4. Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless

The Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless cans were TechRadar’s favorite headphones of 2022 , the year they launched, and they're seriously impressive headphones that deliver on every level.

You see, before we even get onto the excellent audio and brilliant ANC, let’s just take a moment to celebrate the 60-hour battery life. Yes, 60 hours , even with ANC and normal volume levels. That’s enough for five transatlantic flights without even having to think about going anywhere near a USB-C port. Oh, and if you do somehow run out of juice, there’s a 3.5mm jack for just that or plugging into a plane entertainment system.

While that battery life would be enough for us, Sennheiser has also managed to cram in wonderfully dynamic audio. No matter the music genre, the Momentum 4 Wireless deliver an ultra detailed and crisp aural performance. There’s a real depth here that is rare even in over-ear cans. Add in strong active noise cancellation (with genius adaptive features you can customize through the app) and you’ll very quickly forgive the slightly basic looks and mildly chunkier weight of these travel cans.

The best noise cancelling earbuds for travel

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2 inside open case

5. Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II

While some earbuds come with a selection of silicone tips to make sure you can personalize the fit of your buds, the new Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II go one better and customize audio specifically for your ear canals. Thanks to what Bose calls CustomTune, both ANC and audio in these buds are personalized to best suit your ears. And going by the clear and extra-detailed sound here, we can say it’s doing something right. Combined with Bose’s best-in-class noise cancellation, these buds sing with a vibrant soundstage even over the whirr of jet engines.

The design has been overhauled from the previous generation, with a significantly more comfortable fit that’s ideal for long listening sessions. They aren’t the smallest buds, but they are lighter than the original Bose QC Earbuds, and the lozenges don’t look nearly as bulky in your ears. The downsides here are that there’s no hi-res audio support, no spatial audio, no multi-point pairing, and the chunky design may not suit everyone, though they fit very securely.

And while the active noise cancellation is effectively the best you can get for earbuds (the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are arguably better, but not much better, and they're notably more expensive, though they do also bring spatial audio support), the high-end over-ear stuff is even more effective. But then, they don't slip in your pocket wherever you go, like these do.

The best ANC earbuds for iPhone and iPad

AirPods Pro 2 in action

6. Apple AirPods Pro 2

The AirPods Pro 2 were huge leap forward for the AirPods line, delivering not just a super-convenient experience for Apple users, but audio quality and noise cancellation that's up there with the best in the class. There’s an expansive soundscape that we’ve just not heard on previous AirPods, with incredibly layered audio. Vocals, bass, and even individual instruments all get their chance to shine.

Add in excellent ANC that's only a hair behind the Bose at #5 on this list , plus a lighter weight and smaller case than almost all similar rivals, and Apple's Find My functionality in case you leave them somewhere, and the AirPods Pro 2 are the perfect travel companions.

The final cherry on the icing for traveling is Spatial Audio, however. Use them with an iPhone or iPad to watch movies and they recreate the feeling of being in a movie theater surrounded by speakers, rather then feeling the sound is pumping right in your ears. It's nice to feel less confined when traveling, and nothing does that more effectively than these.

But this all really applies if you're deep into Apple tech; the functionality is very limited on Android. And note that the six hours of battery life per charge is very average – the Sony WF-C700N at #6 on the list offer 7.5 hours, by comparison.

The best mid-priced earbuds for ANC

Sony WF-C700N earbuds close-up in a hand, on gray background

7. Sony WF-C700N

It's not many products that leads us to say that a pair of earbuds "just ripped our notions on what is achievable at this level to smithereens" in a review, but these did. If you want to spend less than $100/£100 on a pair of earbuds while getting the best possible sound and noise cancellation from them, read no further. Nothing beats these.

It's not just the energetic, accurate, detailed audio quality, but that the effective (and customizable) noise cancellation that makes it easy to hear. Yes, the Bose earbuds or over-ear headphones do it better, but you pay a ton more to get there.

Throw in support for Sony's 360 Reality Audio tech for positional sound, plus generally great app support, a super-light and secure fit, and long battery life from the buds, and you've got a winning package. That you only get one additional charge from the case is a bit of an issue for traveling, but not a dealbreaker. It's the same with the lack of auto-pause when you remove them, or hi-res support – again, we're not concerned for the price. We love them.

Best super-cheap earbuds with good ANC

Earfun Air Pro 3 buds held in a hand above a wooden table

8. Earfun Air Pro 3

We called these "the best cheap noise-cancelling earbuds you can get" in our review, and that's the long and short of it. Do they block noise as well as the Bose, AirPods, or Sony earbuds also in this list? No – but they're way less expensive (and often discounted further), and they do it as well as anything else at the same kind of price.

And when you then factor in the fantastic nine-hour battery life, and that they're future-proofed with features such as Bluetooth 5.3 and LE Audio support, they're even more of a bargain. The sound is good for the price, with no obvious weaknesses, even it isn't as rich as more elite models – it's still fun and compelling to listen to.

The design is not very svelte, but we don't mind too much considering what's been packed in there. These are such good all-rounders, and the quality of the sound for the cost makes them our cheapest pick.

Best true wireless earbuds for in-flight movie systems

Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 held in a hand

9. Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2

When it comes to sound quality, few earbuds can match these. We said "you're in for a sonic masterclass" in our review, and raved that dynamic elements are delivered with "more zeal and energy than we've heard from any set of true wireless earbuds to date". When it comes to audio quality, they're second to none.

That's sadly not true when it comes to the quality of the noise cancellation (which let's through far more low-frequency rumble than we expect from something so premium), and the battery life, which is the lowest of anything in this list.

But they have an ace up their sleeve. Unlike basically all other true wireless earbuds, these can be used wired. The case comes with a couple of cables (one USB-C to USB-C, one 3.5mm jack to USB-C), so that you can connect the case to an audio source such as an in-flight entertainment system. The sound is beamed from the case to the earbuds over aptX high-quality streaming.

All of the over-ear headphones we've featured in this list have a wired options, but none of the earbuds does. That's the nature of going true wireless. You get the best of both worlds here. Well, most of the best – if only the noise cancellation was better. They're also very large – those with small ears should give them a test before committing.

How to choose the best travel headphones for you

When it comes to choosing the best travel headphones, all of the important decisions are fully subjective. This is about finding the best travel headphones for  you  and not anybody else, so there are a few things to consider.

The first one is an easy choice. Do you prefer over-ear cans or earbuds? We all have very different preferences, and there’s no right or wrong answer. Some people find in-ear buds invasive or worry about finding exactly the right fit. Thankfully if you’re fretting about the latter, most earbuds now come with a collection of silicone tips to ensure that the buds are snug enough for you not to worry about them tumbling out. Active noise cancelling depends on a good seal, so most ANC pairs have a good selection. Earbuds are also handy for travelling thanks to their compact cases that can slide into an inside pocket.

But if you’re happy to carry something a little bigger and want some added audio oomph, there are plenty of over-ear options explicitly designed to press the mute button on airports and crowded train carriages. Brands like Sony and Bose have long reigned over the travel crowd, purely for their ultra-comfortable over-ear fit, excellent noise cancellation and satisfying audio chops.

They also fit snugly even when you’re cosied into your neck pillow on the plane, which is incredibly satisfying as you drift off. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for over-ears that come with a 3.5mm cable in the case so you can plug into the airplane entertainment system without having to resort to the free foamy monstrosities so you can watch a movie.

True wireless earbuds won't have a cable option (mostly), so if you're taking them on a flight, make sure you've filled your tablet or phone with entertainment.

Once you’ve decided on a fit, it’s time to think about your budget. If you fly regularly or want to silence a noisy metro train daily, you might want to invest in a high-end pair of ANC cans. If you’re just heading onto one short flight and don’t want to spend as much as the ticket on a pair of headphones, plenty of ANC options are available that won’t break the bank. You’ll sacrifice some bells and whistles, but audio quality doesn’t always have to suffer.

Speaking of ANC, you'll want to consider just how much you want to block out the world around you. As we said above, the more you pay the better the ANC tends to be. But that isn't always the case, so be sure to read our first-hand reviews. All of the options in this guide have some level of ANC – we consider it essential for a pair of the best travel headphones – but we also have a guide dedicated to the best noise cancelling headphones and best noise cancelling earbuds specifically if wrapping yourself up in an immersive cocoon of sound is your number one priority.

Higher-end headphones also may come with a system to adjust the air pressure between the seal and your eardrum, which is obviously nice on airplanes, when the pressure changes. Sony's WH-1000XM4 at #1 on this list feature 'Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing' tech, for example, while AirPods Pro 2 at #7 on this list also feature a pressure-balancing system.

How we test the best travel headphones

When we review headphones with active noise cancellation, we always test them for travel as much as possible anyway, since that's usually the hardest test for their noise blocking powers! We listen to them in cities among traffic, on public transport including trains and buses, and we've tested most of these options on flights, to find the best headphones for airplanes.

For audio fidelity, we test headphones from a range of sources, but mainly the best music streaming services . Our tests range from very high-quality tracks on Tidal to the very basic quality of Spotify's app, plus we'll test podcasts, YouTube , movie streams and other common ways to listen.

We always test out the apps that most modern headphones have, to see how they can affect the experience (for better or worse), plus any features that are enabled by the apps, such as customizable noise cancellation, EQ settings, or spatial audio.

And we'll test the battery claims with actual use – and we'll use them for a long time to test the comfort, while we're at it.

We're comparing our verdicts in all these areas against other products at the same kind of price to arrive at our conclusion of not only whether something sounds good or blocks noise well, but whether it achieves good value while doing that.

Cutest & Best Headphones for Toddlers

Headphones for toddlers yes.

When I first became a parent, I was certain I was going to limit my daughter’s screen time to an hour a week of highly educational programming that would stimulate and instruct. Then I remembered that I was television producer with a great love of garbage reality television. Truthfully, the TV is on A LOT in our house.

toddler tech, baby headphones, best travel accessories for kids

But even though my kids were and are no stranger to screens, when we would fly were immediately attracted to the seat-back entertainment. In the olden days we lugged along our portable DVD player and new DVDs, as well as a few old favourites.

Nowadays, tablets make our lives easier (and lighter) in terms of keeping our kids’ attention. And this bodes well for those of you who actually do rigorously limit your kids’ screen time. You’ll likely have a captive audience (pun intended) to whatever app you let them play with or show you let them watch.

Toddler tech has come a long way!

Paw Patrol should be seen and not heard

When my kids were really little, they were happy enough to just watch the screen. But the time soon comes where they want to listen as well. And not everyone, including yourself, wants to listen to Dora. Or Paw Patrol . Or Mickey. (Actually, I don’t mind Mickey, but I’m not certain my fellow passengers want to listen to the “Hot Dawg” song for the trillionth time). So you need headphones for toddlers.

THE Cutest Headphones for Toddlers

We have two pairs of these adorable headphones from Califone: Panda ones and Tiger ones. They also come in Bear . They fit little heads and have a separate volume adjustment on the cord, so you can be certain the noise levels aren’t too loud for their ears. And they adjust to fit grown-up heads to watch a real movie if your kids fall asleep on the plane. (A girl can dream, can’t she?)

You can order these adorable (and inexpensive!) headphones via Amazon

When did your kids start wearing headphones. So far my son also just watches the screen for the most part or I turn the volume up so he can hear a little (sorry all fellow plane travelers!), but I am anxiously awaiting the day that I can put a pair of headphones on him and he will keep them on and stop trying to speak into them (he’s part of the iphone generation where mommy talks into her headphones when she is on the phone.)Thanks!

I think it was around 2? A trick to get them started is to wear them yourself. Chances are they’ll want to take them off your head and put them on their own!

' src=

Thank you for admitting unashamedly to the amount of TV your kids watch. I’m also a TV producer and my 3 yr old daughter is an Apple TV addict. I have no problems with it. She has a very balanced little life and is an extremey happy child.

Do you think 18 months old Bub is too young to wear headphones? I will be travelling with my daughter for almost 30 hours, changing few planes and worry she loves loud music games… Any particular headphones you would advice for this age?

I was a little concerned about damaging his hearing, which is why I made sure the headphones I bought him are volume-limiting so they can’t accidentally go too loud and hurt his hears. Hope this helps!

Went to NASCAR the other day and several of the infants and toddlers had on headphones. I’m buying them for my 4 month old grandson. We needed them at his mother’s college graduation

13 Best Baby Headphones for Flying

Flying can be an unpleasant experience for adults, let alone for babies. While loud noises can be deafening for adults, it can be harmful to little ones. Most audio products are geared towards adults and may still be suitable for teenagers or even kids. But baby headphones for plane are specifically designed for your little humans. So if you’re wondering what the best baby headphones for flying are, here’s your ultimate guide.

How to Choose the Best Baby Headphones for Flying

With the many choices available in the market, you need to know which baby headphones are the right ones. To ensure you have the best baby headphones, here are several things you should pay attention to beforehand.

Protection Type

Generally, there are two different types of ear protection for babies; earmuff and headphones. The difference between these two items is that earmuffs are not connected to audio. They’re also not equipped with noise-canceling technology. That said, you can rely on earmuff for minimal ear protection for babies, especially during winter. But for their ear protection during flight, it’s best to go for baby headphones for flying.

Noise Reduction Rating

Noise Reduction Rating or NRR refers to a set of rates of noise you can hear. The higher the rate, the more decibels they can block out. While adults need at least 30dB rating to have an undisturbed sleep, babies need at least 20dB noise-blocking capacities. Although this can vary depending on the person, the NRR you can see on the packaging is more or less accurate.

Size and comfort

There’s no point in having high-functioning baby headphones for plane if they don’t fit well and are not comfortable. Besides, the correct fitting will provide optimal use of the headphones. And a pair of headphones that are too tight can result in discomfort for your baby. The best way to handle this is to measure the baby’s head first before buying the headphones.

How do I protect my baby’s ears when flying?

The weird sensation in our ears when we fly can be a strange and even scary experience for young children. This happens when the air pressure behind our eardrums changes. While adults can adjust to this condition by chewing, yawning, and drinking plenty of water, babies can’t do as much. You can take baby headphones for flying with you and put them on your babies. You can also give them a pacifier to help them with their jaw movements.

How soon can a baby fly in an airplane?

Most doctors recommend between three to six months before a baby can fly in an airplane. But then again, this largely depends on their immune system development. Some babies can develop a better immune system as soon as one month old. It also depends on your baby’s health. It can take a while before premature babies or babies with lung problems can fly. This is due to the lower pressure in the airplane cabin. It’s best to talk with your pediatrician before you decide on taking them on a flight.

Do earplugs help babies when flying?

Earplugs are great for adults during a flight, but it’s a different case for babies. Earplugs are generally designed for adults and considering the size alone, they’re too big for a baby’s ear canal. It’s hard to ensure if your baby is comfortable with them and it’s more likely to cause discomfort. If you’re looking for a pair for yourself, check out our best earplugs for sleeping .

One of the most important things you should consider in choosing baby headphones for plane is comfort. And PRO KIDS Ear protection can absolutely provide that. Even better, the cups are 360 degrees foldable so you won’t need excessive space to keep these headphones during your travel.

The best over-ear headphones of 2024

Over-ear headphones often have better sound quality and stronger noise-canceling compared to earbuds and on-ear options.

Almost everyone I see on my morning commute is wearing wireless earbuds (mostly AirPods ). Despite their ubiquity, they are not what I grab when I want to watch a show on my tablet or pack a weekend bag . When I want superior sound quality, long battery life and strong automated noise cancellation, I reach for a pair of over-ear headphones.

I’ve tested dozens of headphones for NBC Select, including wireless earbuds, workout headphones , open-ear headphones and more. We combined my experience with the rest of the NBC Select team to pick the best over-ear headphones for you, with different options for different needs.

SKIP AHEAD Staff-favorite over-ear headphones in 2024 | How to use over-ear headphones

Selected. Our top picks

Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones

How we picked the best over-ear headphones

Almost everyone at NBC Select has a pair of over-ear headphones they love. Combining their experience with my time testing dozens of headphones, we selected options keeping the following qualities in mind:

  • Comfort: We highlighted headphones that are comfortable to wear for hours at a time, with an adjustable fit, cushioned earpads, a comfortable headband and an even distribution of weight across your head.
  • Ease of use: We picked headphones that were easy to control using the buttons or touch options on the earcups. We also tried each brand’s companion app, looking into the extra features, useful settings and more in our decision.
  • Battery life: A good pair of headphones should keep you entertained through your commute, international flight or weekend trip, without having to worry about recharging. We preferred headphones with over 24 hours of battery life.
  • Noise-canceling: All of our top picks have active noise cancellation , or ANC. This technology detects incoming noise and cancels it out — a must-have for hearing your music clearly in a noisy environment, without having to crank up the volume.

Staff-favorite over-ear headphones in 2024.

Most of our top picks come from well-known audio brands like Sony and Bose. All of our picks have ANC, transparency and some kind of travel case included. With the exception of the Apple AirPods Pro Max, all of our top picks work equally well on all kinds of devices —- Android phones, Apple laptops, Samsung tablets, you name it.

Best overall: Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Headphones

Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones

Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones

  • Lightweight and comfortable
  • Great sound quality
  • Good battery life

NBC Select editor Jordan Bowman and I are huge fans of the WH-1000XM5 (aside from the clunky name). They are good at just about everything, with great sound quality, powerful active noise cancellation, intuitive touch controls and excellent battery life. We’ve used them at work, commuting, relaxing at home and on international vacations with no issue.

These headphones have a slightly bass-forward sound profile, but not so heavy that it drowns out mid or high end instrumentation. They convey rumbling guitar and sweeping vocals with proper gravitas. Detailed jazz arrangements also come in with layered detail and energy.

I typically have complaints about touch-controlled headsets, but Sony is one brand that nails it. The right earcup is essentially a touchpad — you can pause and play, adjust volume, skip and repeat tracks and more, all with swipes and taps. If you cover the entire right earcup with your palm, the headphones instantly switch to hear-through mode, a quick way to hear someone talking to you without taking off the headset. The two physical buttons on the left earcup act as the power button and mode switch.

The headphones do not fold, so the included hard case is bulky. If you like Sony’s great touch controls and battery life, but are looking for something a little more portable, the previous Sony WH-1000XM4s are still excellent, and fold down to a smaller size.

Weight: 8.82 oz | Battery life: Up to 30 hours with ANC on, up to 40 hours with ANC off | Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.2 (up to 2 devices), wired | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Hard case included | App: Sony Headphones Connect (iPhone and Android)

Best budget: Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless Headphones

Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless Headphones

Soundcore Life Q30 Wireless Headphones

  • Great value
  • Excellent battery life
  • Plastic-feeling build
  • No ANC over wired connection

You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a pair of full-featured over-ear headphones. The Soundcore Life Q30 costs under $100 but has most of the same features as our other picks, (ANC, transparency mode, a folding design, a hard case, long battery life and fast charging).

They are comfortable, if a bit flimsy, especially in the control buttons. The sound isolation is decent, with ANC adding a little extra noise-canceling to the mix. Transparency mode is a little lacking, common in this sub-$100 price range. But the battery life is stellar with 60 hours of power with ANC turned off and 40 hours with ANC turned on.

These headphones lack some of the detail and clarity of higher priced options, especially for instrumental and orchestral music.

Weight: 9.17 oz | Battery life: Up to 40 hours with ANC on, up to 60 hours with ANC off | Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 (up to 2 devices), wired | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Hard case included | App: Soundcore (iPhone and Android)

Best noise-canceling: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Wireless Headphones

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Wireless Headphones

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Wireless Headphones

  • Best in class ANC
  • Very comfortable fit
  • Great build quality
  • Finicky controls

If you want to hear your music and nothing else, these headphones have the strongest noise-canceling I’ve heard. I gravitate towards this headset when I want to focus in the office — chatter around my desk becomes barely audible, even with the volume level low. The sound profile also sounds more neutral and balanced when compared to the Sony WH-1000XM5.

They are well-built and very adjustable, with metal along the hinges and plush padding around the earcups and headband. They fold down into the included hard case and show no signs of wear and tear even after a few months of consistent use

The headphones have a mix of physical and touch controls on the earcups — both could use some improvement, considering the price point. The volume slider is easy to accidentally adjust when putting on or taking off the headphones, says Bowman. The on-off button also has a bit of a delay — it can take a few seconds to know if you’ve turned the headset on or off.

Weight: 8.96 oz | Battery life: Rated up to 24 hours with ANC on | Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.3 (up to 2 devices), wired | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Hard case included | App: Bose Music (iPhone and Android)

Best for Apple: Apple AirPods Pro Max Wireless Headphones

Apple AirPods Pro Max Wireless Headphones

Apple AirPods Pro Max Wireless Headphones

  • Smooth use with Apple devices
  • Easily replaceable earcups
  • Very pricey
  • Awkward carrying case

NBC Select editorial projects manager Rebecca Rodriguez has had AirPods Pro Max for about two years. She uses them for everything: working out, commuting, travel, focusing in the office and anything in between. They are the best headphones she’s ever had, but work best with Apple devices — many of their connectivity features do not function on Windows and Android.

These headphones are comfortable and have ample padding without too much clamping force against your head, says Rodriguez. The earcups attach magnetically to the headset, and are far easier to remove and clean than our other top picks. The headset is also much heavier than our other top picks, but Rodriguez never found it uncomfortable to wear.

They have excellent ANC and one of the best transparency modes on the market, in our experience. In transparency, noise and conversations come in clearly, making it easier to leave the headset on for hours at a time.

For travel, the largely metal build is durable, but the included soft case is lacking, in our experience. It only protects the earcups, and leaves the metal and mesh headband completely exposed.

Weight: 13.6 oz | Battery life: Rated up to 20 hours with ANC on | Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Soft headphone cover | App: No

Best for bass-lovers: Sony Ult Wear Wireless Headphones

Sony Ult Wear Wireless Headphones

Sony Ult Wear Wireless Headphones

  • Competitive price
  • Great battery life
  • Robust on-ear controls
  • Ult mode can distort audio

These headphones share much of the design and features of Sony’s flagship models, but at a more affordable price point. The main difference is sound: these headphones pump up the bass.

The Ult Wear looks a lot like Sony’s WH-1000XM4s, with a nondescript, folding design. Like the XM4s, you can tap and swipe the right earcup to control media, adjust volume and more. You have three physical buttons: power, mode switch and Ult. Click the Ult button once for a bit of extra bass, click it twice for a deep bass party-vibe.

Weight: 8.99 oz | Battery life: Up to 30 hours with ANC on, up to 50 hours with ANC off | Connectivity: Bluetooth (up to 2 devices), wired | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Hard case | App: Sony Headphones Connect (iPhone and Android)

Best for travel: Bose QuietComfort Wireless Headphones

Bose QuietComfort Wireless Headphones

Bose QuietComfort Wireless Headphones

  • Great noise cancellation
  • No ANC off mode

If you’re a frequent flier, you are probably familiar with these Bose QuietComfort headphones. They nail the must-haves for long-distance travel: excellent ANC, a light and compact design, good battery life and a durable carrying case.

On my most recent flight (about 4.5 hours), the headphones’ relatively neutral sound profile made for easy listening — I never felt the need to take the headphones off for a break.

It is easy to control using the physical buttons and on-off switch on the earcup. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones have a slightly more plush and premium build, but cost significantly more than these.

Something to note: you cannot turn ANC off with these headphones, you can mix ANC with transparency, but cannot turn both off to extend the battery life.

Weight: 8.32 oz | Battery life: Rated up to 24 hours with ANC on | Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.1, wired | Noise cancellation: Yes | Transparency: Yes | Carrying case: Hard case | App: Bose Music (iPhone and Android)

select How to find the perfect long-lasting work tote

How to use over-ear headphones.

Over-ear headphones create an enclosed space around your ear that naturally isolates you from outside noise. They are larger than earbuds and on-ear headphones. This extra size generally allows for the biggest and best audio quality, microphones, ANC and controls, in our experience. As with all headphones, there are a few things you should keep in mind to get the most out of them:

Use the different noise cancellation modes

All of our recommended headphones have some form of active noise cancellation and hear-through technology.

Active noise cancellation (ANC) detects incoming noise and generates signals internally to cancel out that noise. Good ANC allows you to clearly hear your music even when there is a lot of background noise, without having to turn your volume to uncomfortably high levels.

Hear-through, passthrough or transparency modes do the opposite: they detect incoming noise and amplify it. This allows you to better hear what is going on around you, despite the natural noise isolation over-ear headphones create.

With most headphones, you can turn both of these modes off, and simply listen to audio without any outside noise dampening or amplification.

I switch between ANC and hear-through often during work, and typically turn both off when I am relaxing at home. Experiment with all the modes available on your headset, and learn what works best for you.

Download the headphone’s app

Most of the headphones on our list have a companion app you can download on your smartphone. These apps typically let you change the audio balance (equalizer) on your headphones, manage which device you are connected to and download software updates to improve your headphones. For many brands, you can also turn on an immersive listening mode though these are universally disliked by the NBC Select team. We list the name of each headphone’s app in the specs line.

Take breaks

Some over-ear headphones can have a squeezing effect on your head over time. If you suffer from tension headaches, earbuds may be a better option, says Allen Conrad, a chiropractor at Montgomery County Chiropractic Center . Wearing over-ear headphones for six to eight hours while sitting at your computer can also have an accumulative effect on neck pain and posture, says Conrad. Consider how heavy your headphones are or swap to earbuds for long work days.

Meet our experts

At NBC Select, we work with experts who have specialized knowledge and authority based on relevant training and/or experience. We also take steps to ensure all expert advice and recommendations are made independently and without undisclosed financial conflicts of interest.

I would like to known : what the weather will be like ? is breasting feeding friendly city ? is it safe to travel with a 10 month old baby ?

I am looking forward for your answers

Best regards

travel headphones for baby

For weather as has been stated here for maybe 100 times: 1) check various web sites for average temps, 2) 1 week before you leave, check various web sites for 10 day forecasts, keep doing this up until the day you leave. NO ONE here or anywhere in the world can tell you any better...

> is it safe to travel with a 10 month old baby ?

I believe, it is.

> is breasting feeding friendly city ?

If you mean breastfeeding in public places, there are different opinions. I find it quite normal, but some conservative people might find it inappropriate - you never know! There are no special laws on breastfeeding in Russia, it's just a matter of etiquette. I wouldn't advice breastfeeding while in a restaurant or in metro or other crowded places. But if you're sitting somewhere in a park, it's ok, I guess... Using a sling would be a good idea though.

For restaurants: better ask a waiter whether they have a nursing room, and if they don't (and they don't object to breastfeeding in general), better cover up a bit...

" is it safe to travel with a 10 month old baby ? "

- It's as safe as anywhere else - depends more on you and the baby. Better consult your doctor about travelling in general.

travel headphones for baby

It is a baby friendly place - you will get a lot of support from locals. Maybe some unsolicited parenting advice. I am not sure breastfeeding in public has penetrated the mainstream.

Like others have said, for public places a sling or a hootie-hider (apologies, it's an actual brand name) is the way to go :-)

For every luxurious travel item, there's a serviceable counterpart that will get the job done, but wealthy people often prefer the luxurious to the ordinary.

The rich may be motivated to spend lavishly on luxury travel accessories due to their desire for social status and recognition, or they may feel pressured to keep up with their wealthy peers. Additionally, they may simply value owning and using luxurious items.

Whatever the reason may be, here are 11 luxury travel accessories rich people tend to buy .

Premium Luggage

While the average person is likely fine with buying their luggage at a discount store or ordering value-priced luggage through Amazon, the wealthy often have different preferences.

"Premium suitcase brands like Rimowa have their luggage dialed -- pairing ultra-lightweight materials with personalized monogramming," said Andy Medearis, travel expert and founder of Deals Points . "It's no wonder the savvy jet-setters I work with favor them. Not only do Rimowas protect their valuables with ease, but the brand's cachet signals sophistication wherever one's journey may lead."

<p>No two places are the same, but a bit of research can help you mirror the feel you're looking for in a holiday. For example, London has everything, including the less-than-perfect cost and crowds. It may be bigger, but Liverpool matches London culturally in many ways and awards the daring with an equally wonderful travel experience.</p> <p>Croatia has become a travel mecca over the past decade. 47 Famous People on Their Favorite Water Bottles

travel headphones for baby

In our column “ What I Can’t Live Without ,” we’ve interviewed hundreds of famous people about their favorite products — and here, we’re going deep into their favorite water bottles . While water bottles weren’t a status object when we launched the column in 2016 (in that year, zero famous people recommended a water bottle to us), it’s since become fertile ground. This year, three celebrities have recommended three (very different) water bottles to us — and it’s only April. Whether they care about the environment, find themselves chronically dehydrated, or simply have an addiction to ice water, nothing comes between them and their Hydro Flask — or Owala or Stanley, whether they prefer a 64-ounce jug or 24-ounce bottle that’s small enough to fit in their bag. (In fact, Rob Lowe calls his bottle his “baby,” and LeVar Burton customized his Yeti with his name to avoid losing it.) Below, you’ll find plenty of water bottles from well-known brands on this list, as well as some options from newer brands that offer a little innovation by way of appearance or function. In cases where more than one celebrity has recommended the brand, we’ve included all of their quotes.

Stanley 40 oz. Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler

Hannah Brown “You know, if I could, I would drink Poppi all day, but I need to get my water. The Stanley definitely helps me make sure that I’m keeping myself hydrated. And I love that it keeps the water cold for so long. It’s so funny — it’s such a basic-girl thing, but they’re great and fit in the cup holder. I love being able to hold the handle. What’s not to love? There’s a reason everybody’s obsessed with them.” — March 2024

Nicola Peltz Beckham “I love my Stanley cup. I was never a person who brought water bottles around with me. My mom sent me one, and I absolutely made fun of her. I was like, I’m never going to bring that thing anywhere with me. That’s so embarrassing. Now, I’m that person who can’t go anywhere without it. My go-to is the generic gray one that my mom gave me. She also bought me a pink one for Hanukkah, which is cute. I will say that you have to switch out the straws and make sure you clean them.” — February 2024

Stanley The Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler, 64 Oz

Rumer Willis “I literally think I have about four of them in different colors. I have a tan one, a yellow, this great kind of seafoam-green color. I went a little kooky right before [my daughter] was born and even got this little ice-maker that makes the little circle ice that they have at the hospital, because I was like, ‘If I’m going to have a home birth, I still want some of those things.’ I go really bougie and get this glorious rose water from Erewhon and I fill up my Stanley cups with the little rabbit-pellet ice. And then I put some rose water in and some mint and lemon, and I have them all over the house.” — September 2023

Hydro Flask Water Bottle

Heather Morris “Not to bash any products, but I’m not a Stanley Cup lover. I don’t like the straw aspect because I like to make sure my water bottle’s spillproof. I love the Hydro Flask’s retractable spout. It’s easy. The bottle itself is super-durable too. I got mine about six or seven months ago, and I thought I lost it. I was so bummed and ended up getting a cheap, easy one that I ended up losing. I was like, Oh God, I’m not doing anything good for the environment. Then, my Hydro Flask showed up in my son’s backpack , and I was like, Yes! It came back to me. I need this, otherwise I forget to drink water.” — August 2023

Hydro Flask Wide Flex Chug Cap

Noah Beck “I feel better mentally and physically when I prioritize and do the right things, like drinking water. I try to stay consistent with drinking around a gallon a day. I can’t say I hit it all the time. And sometimes I go over. Sometimes it’s just boring. But I love this particular Hydro Flask.” — September 2023

Hydro Flask 64 oz. Wide Mouth

Tori Kelly  “My friends and team know I’m obsessed with my Hydro Flask. I have a running joke and call it my ‘emotional support water bottle,’ because I feel weird without it. I carry it with me everywhere, even though it’s heavy when it’s filled up. The stickers all over it are a whole thing. I try to drink at least one of these a day, which comes out to about half a gallon. Sometimes, I’ll even double up, but I feel good about just one.” — May 2023

Hydro Flask Wide-Mouth Vacuum Water Bottle, Black, 40 fl. oz.

Laurieann Gibson “It stays hot. It stays cold. It’s durable. It’s ecofriendly. It holds a lot of water — really, the perfect amount. It works for me, it gets the job done. I try to drink two a day.” — February 2021

Pamela Adlon “I always carry a water bottle with me, though I grappled with what brand to recommend because I’ve used Hydro Flask, H2GO, and Klean Kanteen. But Hydro Flask is the best and it doesn’t leak. God, my first Hydro Flask — it’s like when I lost my virginity. I don’t know when I bought my first one. I’ve used them for years. I have black and hunter green, and I probably do two 32-ouncers a day, at least. I even brought one with me when I did Jimmy Kimmel. I brought my own water bottle onstage, and he was like, ‘I’ve never seen somebody bring their own water.’ I’m always terrified that when I’m being interviewed or doing a panel, they’ll have plastic. I’m like, ‘Get those nasty little hos away.’” — March 2020

Busy Philipps “They really did it, didn’t they? They really permeated the continent with these water bottles. I think that, obviously, the climate crisis is one of the most important things that we need to focus our energy on. While we need change on a governmental and corporate level, we all need to do our part. I’m constantly drinking water, and for me, the Hydro Flask has been the best reusable water bottle. I have a giant one and the slightly smaller one, which I keep in my car. I feel like with some of the other water bottles I’ve tried, I would get three sips of water and then need to refill them. And if you’re out for the day, then you’re just trying to find somewhere to refill your water bottle.” — December 2019

Hydro Flask Water Bottle

Kristin Cavallari “It’s a good size — big but still easy to throw in a purse. I have a muted pinkish purple one that’s subtle yet feminine. The brand makes some really pretty colors.” — October 2020

Abby Elliott “So, in the summer, I fill this water bottle up with ice and water at night and drink it by my bed, and it’ll stay ice-cold till morning. I originally discovered it doing Modo Yoga, which is in like a 100-degree room — they sell these there, and the ice-cold water stays cold, even in those conditions! I turned my in-laws onto them, and now we take them to the beach. And you can fill them with rosé too, which is an added bonus.” — July 2017

Hydro Flask Water Bottle - Wide Mouth Straw Lid

Zooey Deschanel “It was maybe seven years ago when I switched from plastic water bottles. I saw how many were not getting recycled and getting dumped in the ocean, and I decided not to ever use a plastic water bottle, or a disposable one, unless it’s an emergency or I really have to. It’s not that hard. I don’t know why people keep buying disposable plastic water bottles when you can have your own water bottle. The Hydro Flask keeps your water really cold or really hot, if you put hot tea in it or something. And the water bottles look pretty.” — September 2020

Zojirushi Stainless-Steel Mug

Ilana Glazer “I never would’ve thought that I’d bring a boring water bottle onstage, but it looks actually quite intentional on that stool. Normally, it’s more typical to have a glass of water onstage during a stand-up set. But this water bottle is so sleek in its design and so quick to open and close. And the flow works better than a glass of water splashing everywhere as I dump it onto my face.” — February 2024

Carol Lim and Humberto Leon “I’ve gone through a lot of different water bottles. This one’s amazing because if you use it for a cold beverage or a hot one, it stays that temperature for 24 hours. I’ve left it and come back four hours later and still had hot tea. Other people in my office see me carry it around. If I leave it anywhere, I call my co-workers and ask where it is. I typically drink green tea and lately iced coffee or iced water out of it.” — June 2017

Waterdrop Classic Thermo Steel Water Bottle

Aryna Sabalenka “My team and I have been using stainless-steel water bottles as often as we can, especially during hot summer days training in Miami. The ones I use are double-walled and keep my water and sports drinks very cold. Waterdrop also has flavored effervescent cubes you drop into the bottle. They’re really delicious and help me to drink more water throughout the day.” — September 2023

YETI Rambler Bottle

John McCauley “I love this bottle. I have it in all the sizes it comes in. My drinks stay cold in there for hours and hours and hours. Super-easy to wash, either by hand or throw it in the dishwasher. The lids are interchangeable with all the bottles. I just find them to be very convenient, and they’re just my favorite water bottle that I’ve tried. I switched over to a Yeti as my daily water bottle probably about two years ago when my old Aladdin bottle that I had for ten years broke. I think I have four or five sizes, and then I have the koozies they make for cans. We have the wine-tumbler thing, we’ve got all kinds of Yeti stuff in the house. I’m drinking my iced coffee out of a Yeti glass right now.” — June 2023

YETI Rambler 18 Oz Bottle With Chug Cap

Rhiannon Giddens “I always carry my water bottle with me. Yeti is just awesome because it stays hot or cold for a millennia. I have the Rambler and it’s really good quality. I’m actually going to order customized ones for my kids. You can go onto their website and put your name and some little pictures. It’s very cute.” — December 2022

Sam Sanders “I got this tumbler as a gift a few months ago, and at first I was like, Oh, water bottle, wow, interesting gift , but it’s kind of changed my life. It has two lids: The top lid has a small mouth, great for sipping, and then if you take that top lid off, there’s a big opening where you can put ice cubes or, like, guzzle it out of the bottle if you want. Some days I like to have my big ice cubes in there, and this one is big enough to accommodate that. Sometimes I take it on my evening walk with the dogs. I can fit two Modelos in there, and it’s a nice little sip and walk. Also, it’s indestructible. I swear it is made out of the same stuff as Wolverine’s claws.” — July 2022

LeVar Burton “I lost several of these until I came across somebody who had their name printed on theirs. I knew that was the solution to my problem. Now that I have one with my name on it, I haven’t lost it. I can walk away, and my personalized Yeti will still be there. Ice melts very, very slowly inside. I can load it up at night and I’ll still have ice in the water in the morning.” — September 2021

Adriene Mishler “It sounds silly, but if you like your drinking vessel, you’re more likely to make it an extension of your body. This is my favorite water bottle. I used to be a Nalgene gal, but the thing about a big wide-mouthed bottle is that nine times out of ten, you’ll spill water on yourself. Which is no big deal — unless you’re about to perform or do an interview. I spilled a lot of water on myself drinking from a Nalgene while on tour in the past. This has a nice little spout for your mouth. The lid also has a handle, and I like that the water bottle is stainless steel and can better control the temperature of the liquid.” — April 2021

YETI Rambler Vacuum Bottle (36 Ounce)

Michelle Zauner “I was constantly buying plastic water bottles on the road until I bought this. It was a lifestyle change. Even at home, I always drink from it now. The bottle is a good way to remember how much water I drink each day. I try to drink two bottles a day and I never buy plastic water bottles anymore. It’s kind of annoying to carry around all the time, but I’m so glad I got it.” — June 2021

Jake Shears “First of all, they’re amazing for making giant cocktails. Like, if I’m working at night or something, or if I’m in the studio, they’re so great for just dumping a third of a bottle of vodka and a bunch of tonic water in. These are so insulating — they keep the ice super-cold so you don’t have to keep mixing drinks. If I’m drinking at home, they really come in handy. But I love them for just plain water too, near my bedside. I love having something that’s ice cold next to the bed.” — May 2020

Yeti Rambler 20-Ounce Tumbler With Magslider Lid

Bethenny Frankel “I don’t drink enough water. So I need to have it with me all day because it keeps everything cold and will make me drink ice water. Everyone’s obsessed with Yeti coolers. They’re on every boat.” — October 2020

Owala Freesip Water Bottle

Samantha Irby “One of my friends got one of these and texted the group chat, ‘You all need to get this water bottle.’ Well, it’s good. I wouldn’t text anyone about it, but if someone asked me for a water-bottle recommendation, I would give it. Two things. One, I love ice water. I filled it last night with ice cubes, and it is still full of ice cubes and cold water. Two, the mouthpiece. You can either tip it back, like you’re drinking from a plastic water bottle, or you can sip it — and there’s something about the shape that makes it so easy. It’s like you breathe in and water comes up. You don’t have to slurp or shake around or move the straw. For those of us who love to sip, it’s top tier.” — May 2023

Lance Bass “I try to drink at least half a bottle every hour, and I just keep filling it up. But it also keeps the temperature of drinks for a really long time. I can go to sleep and wake up in the morning with my drink still at the perfect temperature. My lovely assistant, Lisa Delcampo, who is also the star of The Circle on Netflix, has had this water bottle forever. I always really liked it, and she decided to give me one of my own. It really did change my life.” — November 2021

Meitagie Motivational Time Marker Water Bottle

Ally Maki “I recently went to get my blood drawn, and my numbers were all over the place. My doctor said it could be because I was dehydrated, so he told me to go home and drink a bunch of water. I came back, did the scans again, and they had all corrected themselves. It was just such a mind-blowing moment — I didn’t realize how much dehydration can drastically affect those numbers. I was like, I better start drinking water, but I’m so bad at it. One time, my makeup artist was over and she had this giant bottle with all of the markers on it , and she would stop every like three seconds, like, I gotta make my deadline with the water. I thought it was so funny. I laughed about it, but she really convinced me. I ordered one on Amazon and it truly has become my only source of hydration. I think it’s because I’m so competitive. It’s a challenge for myself every day that I’ve gotta hit.” — May 2023

One Gallon Water Bottle with Time Marker and Straw

Rob Lowe “This is my baby. On set, they’ll be like, ‘Where’s the baby? Has anybody seen Rob’s baby? Can someone bring Rob’s baby to set?’ I carry the baby with me all the time. If I’m being good, I get through one a day. It’s very durable, it’s ecofriendly, it’s reusable — I hate having any kind of plastic water bottle that you throw away. It’s so bad for the environment. This one has really cute delineations: Keep drinking! You’re doing great! Just a little bit more! This makes me laugh. And they actually do help me realize if I’m on pace or behind. I’ll go hours and hours and then be like, Oh, damn it. And then I’ll just go glug, glug, glug, glug, glug to catch up. I’m a big believer in catching up.” — February 2023

Takeya Actives Stainless Steel Water Bottle with Straw Lid

Stassie Karanikolaou “I don’t like room-temperature water; I like cold water. This keeps my water cold at all times. I started using it maybe three years ago, and I would say that it’s gotten me to drink a lot more water throughout the day. I have it with me at all times and I’m constantly refilling it. It’s really helped me. I think I almost drink a gallon of water a day because I have the 32-ounce one, and I fill it up about four to five times a day.” — December 2022

Nalgene 32oz Wide Mouth Sustain Water Bottle

John Schaefer “The No. 1 thing on my list is with me so often that I almost completely forgot about it. I bought it originally for my daughter, who was going on a trip in South America and needed camping gear. I was like, Oh, come on, $15 for a plastic bottle? Well, that is the same bottle I’m still drinking out of 16 years later. These things are indestructible.” — November 2022

Emily Hyland “I’ve been using Nalgenes for the last 20, 30 years. Trying to be ecoconscious, I think it’s a really durable bottle and it’s not very heavy like glass, which, even with the rubber on it, I feel like it’s going to break when I’m traveling around the city. On the Nalgene, I like the handle, I like the wide mouth, I like that it holds a lot of water — it’s been a durable standby in my life.” — October 2019

REI Co-op Nalgene Sustain Graphic Wide-Mouth Water Bottle

Ayo Edebiri “I think I’m the most dehydrated person I know. I’m always a little bit dry. I have one of these, and it does help just with the sense of guilt. I got really proud on the set of The Bear because I got to a point where I would finish one at the end of the day. Then Chris Storer, the creator and director, was like, ‘You should be drinking like two or three of these a day.’ That really rocked me. It didn’t break my spirit though. Life is a journey of growth. I will get there one day.” — July 2022

Editor’s note: The exact pattern of Edebiri’s water bottle is out of stock, but we found a similar option that’s still available.

Corkcicle Insulated Canteen Water Bottle

Jennie Garth “My husband gave this to me a few years ago for Christmas, and I love it. It feels good that I’m not using plastic. Also, it fits perfectly in any cup holder because it’s skinnier at the bottom. You can fit a bottle of wine in it if you need to. I have friends who use it for that, and it does keep their wine cold. I haven’t been drinking recently, but it’s good to know it does work for that. I was never a water person, but as I get older, I see my body becoming thirstier for all things liquid.” — September 2022

Porter Water Bottle - Wide Mouth

Ashley Greene “For whatever reason, when I drink water, I chug it — I will drink an entire 16-ounce bottle in one sitting — and I feel like it’s way easier to knock it back from a wide mouth. For a while, I had plastic water bottles, which don’t really make a lot of sense and aren’t that great for you, so I like the fact that it’s glass and then you have silicone around it, which makes it cute.” — December 202

Klean Kanteen Insulated Classic Water Bottle

Drag Queen Alaska Thunderfuck “I stole this from my mom. Look, I had every intention of mailing it back to her when I borrowed it, but then I realized how useful it is — I used it every single day — so I told my mom, ‘Sorry, Mom, you’re going to have to buy a new one because you’re not getting this back.’ She told me she figured she wouldn’t get it back once I took it, so she went and got a new one anyway. I fill it up once a day, then drink it throughout the day. If I put water in it, it stays cold all day.” — November 2021

Sonja R. Price Herbert “If I’m going to be on Zoom or doing a lot of work for a long time, this size of Klean Kanteen will last me until I get done. If I’m going to have a long day of teaching Pilates in person, I’ll use it, too. I don’t have to worry about my tea getting cold. It stays hot for a long time, like literally all day.” — February 2021

Editor’s note: The original version of the Klean Kanteen is no longer in stock, so we included the updated version here.

HydroMATE Gallon Motivational Water Bottle

Juliane Hough “As a dancer, I sweat and work out so hard that I’m constantly trying to hydrate. I would get water by the gallon at the grocery store before I found this. The sayings motivate me to keep drinking. I carry it everywhere and people always ask me about it.” — July 2021

LARQ Bottle PureVis

Daniel Martin “I bring this bottle with me everywhere. It gives me peace of mind knowing the built-in UV light is killing everything inside and I’m drinking clean water. You just press the top — you know it is on when it turns blue. I think it takes something like 22 seconds to purify what’s in the bottle. When it’s done, the light turns green. The only thing you have to remember is to recharge the top because that’s what holds the UV light, and it will die after a while.” — May 2021

S'well Azurite Marble Bottle, 17 oz.

Erica Lall “My sister got me a S’well bottle a couple of birthdays ago. I use it for water or tea — it keeps drinks cold or hot for so long — but also as a roller for stretching. That’s not what it’s meant to be, but it’s a really hard bottle so it’s great at getting into my IT bands and glutes. I’ll use it as an arch roller for my feet, too. I have tried to use it on my back before, but it didn’t work. It’s a little too small and hard for that, but for everything else, it’s great.” — February 2021

Kourtney Kardashian “I use this every day for the gym . I used to bring a real plastic, you know, water bottle, but obviously I just feel it’s so dated to use plastic water bottles. But I feel very strongly that if you’re leaving the house and need to take a water to go that everyone should use the S’well bottles, or have a glass of water at home. But just to even fill it up for the day and know how much you’re drinking, I think is important. I try to drink 12 glasses of water a day, so depending on which size S’well I’m using, I kind of calculate it by that. I also have the smaller size for my kids to bring to school.” — October 2019

Lucy Liu “My S’well bottle keeps drinks cold for an inordinate amount of time. When I travel and have to bring liquids on the plane, it’ll keep milk cold, so it doesn’t spoil. It’s always with me because I use it every single day. I don’t use it for hot drinks though. For that I like my Zojirushi, which is insane — you put hot tea in it at 6 a.m. and at 6 p.m. it’s so hot, you’ll burn your tongue.” — August 2018

S'well Teakwood Bottle (25 oz)

Kyle MacLachlan  “I really, really like the company and the product: The 25-ounce one can accommodate a bottle of wine, so it’s the type of thing you could bring to the Hollywood Bowl, where you can’t bring an actual bottle, because it keeps it perfectly cold. The bottles are also indestructible and definitely my favorite to use even just for water when I’m going out to play tennis or whatever it is.” — December 2020

Halima Aden “It looks really sleek, but it’s also super-functional: If I put something cold in it, the bottle keeps it cold. If I put hot tea or coffee in there, it keeps it hot.” — September 2020

Alex Eagle “The S’well water bottle keeps things hot, which I love because I love tea. Or I’ll fill it up with filtered water and shove a little bit of ginger or mint in there before leaving the house. We’ve eradicated all plastic water bottles from the house, but we still drink some mineral water out of bottles. I’m really trying to get it all down to just filtered water.” — August 2019

BuildLife Motivational Water Bottle

Anderson Paak “I started drinking a gallon of water a day a long time ago. But I always bought gallon jugs, which was super-wasteful. My assistant got me this cool, reusable one-gallon water bottle with these little markers on it that tell me how much I’m supposed to drink at seven o’clock, nine, eleven, and so on. It also has phrases like ‘Keep Drinking’ and ‘You’ve Got it’ or whatever. Mine has this big straw on the lid, too. I bring it with me everywhere. I drink a lot of tequila in the studio, so I feel like drinking this much water balances things out.” — November 2020

Kablo Glass Water Bottle

Haley Boyd “I’m very aesthetically minded — I don’t want to carry something that looks like camping gear around with me — so I like water bottles that I use in a nonathletic setting to look like the dishes in my kitchen. A lot of people are opposed to using glass water bottles because they think they’re heavy and will break, but this one comes with a one-year replacement guarantee in case you break it.” — October 2019

CamelBak Chute Mag Water Bottle, 32 oz.

Kelly Wearstler “This water bottle is free of any of the bad stuff like BPAs. I literally come to work with three of them every day (I drink a lot of liquids). I have my protein green smoothie. And then I have a ginger celery juice. And then another one is just water that I bring with me to Barry’s. They’re practical and easy to tote around because they’re not glass.” — April 2019

Lifefactory 16 oz. Glass Water Bottle

Lola Kirke “I’m a very thrifty individual and see so much waste everywhere. I think we as human beings have responsibilities to minimize that waste, and these water bottles have been a constant in my life since I became aware of the human footprint on the Earth. We all need to stay hydrated, and drinking water is the secret to life and beauty and not being hungover. Also, not spending money on bottles of water or adding to the mass of plastic on Earth is great. ‘Have a fucking water bottle’ is my motto in life.” — April 2018

First time in Moscow & St Petersburg in Dec 2015

We are planning to travel with my 2 year old baby girl to Moscow and St Petersburg for the first time. 1. What would be the best sites to visit for both cities 4 days each ? 2. What are the difficulties we might have while travelling with a 2 year old (maybe weather, etc) 3. What is the expected budget for each city on a daily basis?

Hope to hear your insights soon.

We were in St. Petersburg 2 weeks ago coming in off a Baltic cruise ship. The fine weather was very unusual for September as it's usually colder and rainy there. I'm sorry, but Russia has a different alphabet, and independent travel would be difficult there. You would also have visa issues since someone has to "invite" you to come into their country. It's really a place for a most experienced travelers to visit--and I wouldn't consider taking a child there.

St. Petersburg is more beautiful than Moscow and has more interesting sites. Apart from this: 1. December is bitterly cold. You have to be adequately dressed with shoes adequate for ice, snow and rain. I wonder if I would bring a child in the Russian winter. I personally found fascinating a visit to St.Petersburg in late November with fog, rain and positively freezing temperatures, but it does not look like a fascinating environment for a little child. 2. Both places are not really tourist friendly - little foreign languages spoken, hotels and services not always at western level, visa issues, and may be expensive if you want quality eating and accommodation. It is one of the few places where, in my opinion, group travel is better than going on your own. Also having a local friend would open doors you do not even imagine, but of course not everybody has a local friend. 3. Do not even try to go on your own without learning at least the Cyrillic alphabet. For example, in metro station the exit route is marked only in Russian; if you do not know the Russian for exit and how it is written, you will never get out.

December is not a usual time to go to Russia as a tourist, and Russia is not a usual destination with a 2 year old. So, if you can give us more details of why you're going to Moscow and St. Petersburg in the first place, we can give better advice.

What the visa situation is will depend on your nationality. If you are a US passport holder, it's not easy or cheap to get a Russian visa, but it's certainly doable. For other nationalities, it can be much easier (one poster here explained that as an Israeli passport holder, she could enter without needing a separate visa at all). If you do have to get a visa, be prepared to use an agency to help you, as it's just not easy on your own. And do be sure to follow their rules to the letter, or your visa application will be rejected.

I agree with lachera - if you're going on your own, you MUST learn the Cyrillic alphabet. It's not hard; I used a book called Teach Yourself The Cyrillic Alphabet, which appears to be out of print. However, a similar book is here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Yourself-Beginners-Russian-Script/dp/0071419861/ref=pd_sim_14_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0YQYF6CS236PH2H02NBV&dpID=41OoOBFovwL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR98%2C160_

This book breaks the alphabet down into letters that are the same as English, those that look the same but have different sounds, those that make sounds we don't have in English, etc. As lachera said, there is almost no signage in the Roman alphabet, so you really must be able to decipher Cyrillic and sound it out (even if you don't know other aspects of the language).

As for best sights, a guidebook will answer that question better than a forum can. For St. Petersburg, all I can say is don't miss the Russia Museum. The Hermitage is more famous, and has great art - by artists you can see in other museums. But the Russia Museum has stuff by local artists you can't see elsewhere, and it's wonderful. Don't miss The Wave by Aivasovsky - breathtaking. The Church On The Spilt Blood is also amazing. And I loved both the Yusupov Palace and the Sheremyetov Palace (the latter is now a museum of musical instruments).

In Moscow, Red Square, The Kremlin, Lenin's Tomb, etc are the famous sights. Do make sure to see the fancy Metro stations, like Mayakovskaya on line 2 and almost any station on line 5 (the ring line). And a great lesser-known sight is the Gorky House, an Art Nouveau wonder.

Budget? Like any city, there's quite a range, and your cost will depend on your needs and wants. Accommodations in these places are expensive. In St. Petersburg, I stayed at a nice place in a great location with a shared bathroom for only €80 per night, but with a 2 year old you probably want a private ensuite bathroom. For food, do you want to eat in restaurants for every meal, or can you get stuff from a supermarket? Some sights are expensive, like the Hermitage or the Kremlin; others are much cheaper. A ten-trip ticket on the Moscow Metro is a bargain; a taxi or private car is not. Etc.

One more consideration is the lack of daylight hours. In Moscow sunrise is around 9 am and sunset at 4 pm. In Saint Petersburg, it's 10 am to 4 pm - yes, 6 hours of daylight.

We recently spent close to three weeks in St Petersburg as independent visitors with visas . As Harold recommends , the book on learning Cyrillic is a must . We purchased a copy via the Amazon link he provided , and it was , indeed , invaluable. For now ( as I am getting progressively less attentive ) here is one quick tip - We stayed at a rather lovely hotel ( Crowne Plaza , Ligovsky Prospekt , 61 ) just near Ploschad Vosstaniya and Uprising Square . A two block walk from the hotel you will find the metro , numerous bus stops , and two great ( and very reasonable places ) for meals . The Stockmann ( CtokmaHH - in Cyrillic ) department store has a beautiful supermarket in the bottom level , and in the adjoining mall , the OBED bufet on the fifth floor is incredible for both quality and price . The hotel cost was about $160USD / night included a full breakfast and the staff was among the most helpful I have ever encountered . English was spoken there with ease .

Since I am still awake , though not for long , one other bit to mention - Do not miss visiting the recently and magnificently restored Shuvalov Palace on the Fontanka River just north of the Anchikov bridge . This is the newly opened Faberge Museum , and while the collection will keep you in a state of perpetual drool , the palace restoration is mind boggling . No detail has been overlooked , and the totality of the endeavor recalls the splendor of Imperial Russia as it was in the last decade before the Great War . If you go after 18:00 hours , you will be able to go through on your own , rather than being herded through on a tour . The accompanying audioguide is very well done and will provide great detail

We just spent 9 days in St. Petersburg and enjoyed the lovely September weather. I had come prepared for rain but we really only had one rainy day -- it was lovely. It is a hard town to be a tourist in -- Public transport is difficult -- the metro has such long stretches between stops, it is not of much use and the trolleys were hideously overcrowded. It is hard to deal in a place where few speak English and you can't even easily read the signs -- we had thought we had learned enough of the alphabet to get by, but we hadn't and that made it harder. (having a phone that can read and translate helped)

We did okay independently and getting the Visa (we got a 3 year visa and hope to go back next year or the year after) was easy. We also rented an apartment and so did some local food shopping which was fun. Restaurants are cheap and we had pretty good food -- the cafeterias are fairly terrible but most of the small restaurants in our neighborhood near the Kazan Cathedral were very good.

I would not do this with a two year old. And I would particularly not do it with a two year old in the dead of winter. None of the things we did from boat trip (not in Dec of course) to visits to palaces and museums would be anything but a misery with a toddler. It is not a great tourist destination with a toddler, but in winter it would IMHO be a nightmare.

We visited the Russian Museum, various churches, the Hermitage for four days, Catherine Palace etc -- not a one of those would be pleasant for a small child in December.

I personally, don't see anything wrong in visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg in Dec. This month the cities will be beautifully illuminated and getting ready for Christmas and New Year, so you will definitely enjoy it. In my opinion spending time in Russia in Dec it is much more interesting then in Dubai. I spent New Year once in Abu Dhabi and I think it was the worst one in my life (no snow, no Christmas tree and so on...) Of course, you trip planning depends on your budget and I think it will be much better for you to arrange a private tour so you will have a car and tour guide next to you who can always assist and advice on where to go and what to do, just because you will be there with 2 years old girl. 1. What would be the best sites to visit for both cities 4 days each ? I would recommend you to visit sight in the morning and to leave evenings free, as spending all days walking with little girl can be complicated. So my suggestion is: 1st day: Red Square and Kremlin, Armory Chamber (is gorgeous, but I think it will be too much). Also on the Red Square there is GUM Trading house, with the newly open biggest in Russia store for children, your baby might like it. 2nd day: Tretiakov gallery, I guess audio guide in English is available there if you want to do it on your own, but I think guided tour will be easier and more interesting. 3rd day: I would recommend Kuskovo, beautiful palace and park, even in winter. In St. Petersburg I recommend: 1st day: city tour (there bus tours, so it is cheaper than private) and St. Isaac’s Cathedral (for example). 2nd day: Pushkin (Catherine palace), there bus tours in particular days, if you want to save 3rd day: Hermitage and let’s say and Giant house for baby 4th day: Faberge museum (they have tours in English) and Oceanarium or museum of dolls for your girl Something like that.

Hmmm, Pauline hasn't been back so either she's figured it out or changed her plan.

:( Sad, as I really wanted to help )

Stick around the forum, Anastasia. It sounds like you will be a great source of information for a destination that most of us know little about. Questions about Russia pop up regularly.

December is not a top tourist season in St Petersburg of course, but the huge advantage is that museums will be less busy than in summer when it can be really crowded. Make sure to take warm clothes, something you can wear in the rain and in the snow. Also when you will be planning your trip take into consideration that days are short in winter. Classical places to visit in St Petersburg are: the Hermitage museum The Savior on Spilt blood church St Isaac's cathedral Peter and Paul fortress All of them are easy to reach Also most tourists visit the Catherine palace - it is situated in the suburb and it may be not so easy to get there if you don't speak Russian, so many people prefer to take tours there. If you are interested, I can tell you more about options that are available. Peterhof ( a suburb famous for the fountain park, but since the fountains function generally from May to early October, the only possible reason to come there in winter is to see the Grand palace. My personal opinion is that the place is much more inetersting in summer).

Less known but highly recommended places: Faberge museum (they have tours in English and sell tickets online) Russian museum Pavlovsk palace (it is situated in a suburb of St Petersburg. It's possible to visit it the same day with the Catherine palace as they are a short drive from each other)

J.T. Poston leads RBC Heritage while traveling with newborn baby

Change Text Size

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – J.T. Poston’s travel contingent is bigger than normal this week – louder, too.

The Postons took their newborn baby girl, Scottie, with them on the road for the first time. She’s already proving to be the good luck charm. Poston leads the RBC Heritage by two shots after his opening-round 8-under 63.

“It's been great. It's definitely an adjustment,” Poston said. “I think my wife and I were figuring it out. My mom is here. She's helping us out, too. So we've got plenty of help. We're just kind of figuring it out.”

Katherine “Scottie” Poston was born on March 20, three days after the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship (Scottie is a family name on both sides). Poston took the next three weeks off before heading to the Masters alone. This week’s RBC Heritage, roughly two hours from the Postons’ St. Simons home, provided the ideal opportunity for a family affair.

J.T. Poston's interview after Round 1 of RBC Heritage

“We've got a two-bedroom condo," Poston said. "My mom is staying with us. We've got (Scottie) in her little setup. Last night my wife was great, she got up in the middle of the night a couple times when she was ready to eat or being fussy and let me sleep, so maybe we'll keep doing that.”

They’d be wise to keep the same routine. Poston made nine birdies Thursday, including six on the front nine as he went out in 30. Poston made three more on the back, more than offsetting his lone bogey of the day at No. 12. Poston led the field in SG: Around the Green and finished second in Putting.

“I felt like it was one of those days where if I could give myself a look, and I felt pretty confident in being able to make those putts, whether it was a close one or a 20-, 25-footer,” Poston said. “It sort of freed up the tee to green a little bit I guess you could say.”

The tee-to-green game has been an issue for Poston in recent weeks. After carding three top 10s and two other top 20s in his first six events, Poston has yet to finish inside the top 25 since the PGA TOUR left the West Coast. Poston chalked up the recent struggles to the ebbs and flows of a season. “It's hard to hit it really good every week,” he said.

Perhaps the key is Scottie. Poston finished T30 at the Masters, his best result in two months, and now leads at Harbour Town Golf Links.

“Maybe that has something to do with it,” Poston said. “It's good to have them here and sort of takes away the pressure of – I'm not worrying about golf when I'm at home. I'm trying to change diapers and take care of her.”

'I hope she picks a good one' Peter Andre hands over baby naming rights to wife Emily after two weeks

travel headphones for baby

Peter Andre has given up on choosing a baby name for his new baby daughter and has handed over the naming rights to his wife Emily.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 50, and Emily, 34, have struggled for two weeks to find a name their newborn baby girl as she 'didn't look like' any of the names they had chosen before her birth.

The couple couldn't agree on a name together, which Peter admitted was 'driving them nuts', so he has now decided to let his wife make the final decision on the name, saying, 'I hope she picks a good one'.

This comes almost two weeks after the arrival of their third child together , with Peter saying that they are still in a 'baby bubble' and uploaded a new picture of him holding his baby girl on their couch.

Peter wrote in column in OK! magazine : 'We're all in a baby bubble just now and Emily and the baby are doing great. Everything feels perfect.

'We've been trying out names that our friends and family have suggested, but then Emily and I don't seem to agree on them. So I think it's only fair that Emily decides - I hope she picks a good one.'

The couple previously took six weeks to name their now nine-year-old daughter Millie so we feel this method will surely be faster!

Peter announced the news of their baby's arrival with an adorable pic of his wife Emily and their new baby in hospital, writing: 'We feel so overwhelmed right now. So happy to welcome our beautiful girl to the family.

'Mum and daughter are doing amazing. Born Tuesday 2nd April 2024, 7lb 3oz and thankfully very healthy. Baby has been spoilt with cuddles from Junior, Princess, Amelia, and Theo who are all in love with their new little sister. As parents, we couldn’t be happier.'

With two older sisters named Amelia (Millie) and Princess, we are sure whatever Emily chooses for the new baby's name will be just as sweet.
