Working in Formula 1 is a dream for many people, with the glitz, glamour and speed of the premier motorsport series being too much to resist. Luckily for those people there are a wide range of jobs available in Formula 1, with something to suit any experience and skillset.

To find out more about the jobs in Formula 1, as well as how to get them, read below.

• Qualifications: Good engineering degree at a minimum, though a Master’s or PhD helps • Skills: Good communication

Engineering is a large part of a Formula 1 team, and as such there are many different paths an engineer can take in F1. Whether it’s working with a driver to ensure they have the car set up to their needs, analysing the data to create the perfect race strategy, ensuring the car itself runs as it should do, or something else entirely, there are many engineering roles.

While these different roles require different skills and knowledge bases, there are several things that will always help when looking for an engineering role – a degree in an engineering field, good knowledge of maths and science.

For more information on different engineering roles, click on our interviews with some of Haas F1 Team’s engineers below:

• Ayao Komatsu – Director of Engineering • Dominic Haines – Race Engineer • Edward Regan – Performance Engineer • Mike Caulfield – Strategy Engineer • David Sloan – Controls Engineer • Julien Simon-Chautemps - Race Engineer • Adam Ludgate - Aero Design Engineer • Won Ju - Composite Design Engineer • Rebecca Wilson - Senior Aerodynamicist • Mark Stiles - Brake Duct Design Engineer

• Qualifications: No specific qualifications necessary, though they can help. Experience and knowledge are important though • Skills: Mechanical knowledge will help

Mechanics play a vital role in Formula 1, and are responsible for working on the cars. This is arguably as up close and personal as a non-driver can get with an F1 car, and unlike many other roles in F1 there are no specific degrees or qualifications that will help you into the job, with skills, experience and knowledge being the important qualities employers look for. This can make it difficult though, and you’ll likely have to do some work for free in the lower tiers to gain that crucial knowledge and experience.

To find out more about being a mechanic in Formula 1, read our interview with Nikita Mazepin’s No.1 Mechanic below:

• Elliot Parkes – No.1 Mechanic

Pirelli technicians work on some tyres

Pirelli technicians work on some tyres

• Qualifications: GCSEs help, but there are no formal qualifications • Skills: Adaptability

Garage technicians are the jack of all trades of a Formula 1 team, assisting in everything from moving shipping containers to preparing tyres and more. They are the antithesis to a lot of roles in F1 – while engineers, strategists and mechanics are hyper-focused on one thing, a technician’s role is diverse.

As the job is so varied and can change from minute to minute, there’s no formal qualifications required – experience is much more valuable. You also need to be adaptable and able to swap focus to help with whatever needs to be done at the time, making this a fun and engaging job for people who enjoy not having a strict schedule of work.

To find out more about the role a technician plays in a Formula 1 team, read our interviews below:

• Marek Smrek – Garage & Tyre Technician • Ryan Cottee – Garage Technician

Andrew Scrowther, CNC Machinist, McLaren

• Qualifications: Varies, though experience on different machines is useful • Skills: Maths, being a team player

While machinists don’t go to the races, they play a crucial part in a Formula 1 team – creating the parts for the cars. Without skilled machinists teams would have no cars to race with, so the job of a CNC operator is one which requires good maths skills and a hands-on attitude.

Computer skills are also a must for any machinist, as much of the job is programming the machines to cut to the precise measurements that F1 teams use, rather than manually cutting things themselves.

For anyone who enjoys maths and being more hands-on, machining could be a rewarding career.

To find out more about the role a CNC Machinist plays in a Formula 1 team, read our interview with McLaren CNC Machinist Andrew Scrowther below:

• Andrew Scrowther – CNC Machinist

Coordinator

• Qualifications: Varies depending on the type of role • Skills: Good communication and planning

Formula 1 teams don’t just run like clockwork – they need a team of people behind the scenes to make sure that everything goes to plan. Whether you’re making sure an entire team gets to a race on time (and has the proper paperwork too), ensuring that your guests and sponsors are fully catered for, or coordinating other aspects of the team, it’s a crucial part of an F1 team.

If planning and organisation are your strong suits, you might find coordinating a rewarding career.

To find out more about the role of a coordinator in a Formula 1 team, read our interviews below:

• Alysha Lane – Guest & Facilities Coordinator • Kate Mackenzie – Senior Travel Coordinator

  • Qualifications : No specific qualifications
  • Skills : Organisation, communication skills

Photographing the pinnacle of motorsport is a dream for many amateur photographers, but what does it take to get to F1? What skills, qualifications and equipment do you need?

To find out what it takes to be a Formula 1 photographer we spoke to Mark Sutton - Senior Photographer at Motorsport Images - to get his insight.

• Mark Sutton – Senior Photographer

• Qualifications: Nothing strictly required, but a degree in a related field will help • Skills: Design, some knowledge of motorsport

You’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s no room for creativity in the data-driven world of Formula 1, but it’s a very important part of the team. Whether it’s designing liveries, doing video and photoshoots, running social media or even designing the car’s livery, creatives have a role in F1.

To find out more about the creative roles in Formula 1, we spoke to Jess McFadyen about how to become a Social Media Director, and Ryan Long about how to become a Creative Services Manager:

• Qualifications: No specific qualifications required • Skills: Strong people skills, relationship building, ability to negotiate

Not all jobs in a Formula 1 team require a specialised degree – some only need people skills and the ability to build relationships. A buyer is one of those jobs.

Buyers ensure that the team has everything they need to run – from shipping cars and parts to races to tyre trolleys to catering and even merchandise, buyers procure the items that help the team run (and get the best price for it as well).

There are no specific qualifications you need to be a buyer, so it can be a great way to get into F1 without having to go to university.

We talked to Haas’ Samantha O’Gorman to find out more about the role a buyer plays in Formula 1:

Communications

• Qualifications: Journalism or PR degrees typically • Skills: Initiative, adaptability, passion

Formula 1 team and driver communication is carefully monitored by both the media and the organisations involved, and you’ll regularly see team personnel standing next to a driver with a dictaphone to record everything they say. The message they put out in any communication is carefully curated, with teams being a central focus point in this process in F1.

Of course someone has to coordinate all of this communication, and that’s the responsibility of the Head of Communications.

• Stuart Morrison – Head of Communications

• Qualifications: No specific qualifications, though a journalism degree can help • Skills: Good communication, people skills, strong work ethic

Formula 1 journalism can seem like the perfect job for anyone with an interest in motorsport and writing.

With the potential for a lot of traveling and races happening on weekends, it's not a job for someone who's looking for a steady 9-5, however it can be a very rewarding job that allows you to explore your passion.

To find out more about how to become a Formula 1 journalist, read our interview with Luke Smith below:

Team Principal

• Qualifications: No specific qualifications • Skills: Decisive, good communication, passion

While a Formula 1 team might be made of hundreds or thousands of employees, there has to be one person leading them all towards the same goal – and that’s the Team Principal. Gunther Steiner started his Formula 1 career in 2001, and in his time has worked for Jaguar, Red Bull and, since 2014, Haas F1 Team.

Simple Flying

A list of 5 f1 drivers that use private jets.

Some teams use private jets, while other drivers own their aircraft to travel across the globe.

  • Formula 1 drivers travel between races in various ways, with some drivers owning their own private jets.
  • Some teams, like Scuderia Ferrari, have partnered with the private jet charter company VistaJet.
  • Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Max Verstappen had or still have their own private jets to get to races and other destinations.

With Formula 1 being the epitome of luxury, you can only assume that private jet usage is rampant within the sport, with drivers, executives, and sponsors flying out to races with private aircraft. Some drivers own their private jets, while others utilize aircraft provided by the teams, which includes partnerships with charter companies.

At times, drivers have to resort to flying commercially. For example, Kevin Magnussen, a driver for the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, had to miss team activities on one day at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2023. As reported by Autoweek , the Dane was bumped from a flight between Mexico and Brazil and was forced to find an alternative way to get to the latter country, with Magnussen flying through Bogota, Colombia, to reach Sao Paolo, Brazil.

  • Aircraft flying on: HondaJet Elite

While Honda, as a car manufacturer, has withdrawn from the sport as an engine marker, pledging to return in 2026, it has continued to work with Red Bull Powertrains to provide power units to Red Bull Racing and Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team, its sister team.

However, in 2020, Honda Aircraft Company delivered a HondaJet Elite to AlphaTauri, which is now known as the Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team. As recently as September 2023, HondaJet posted on Instagram that the partnership with AlphaTauri has continued, with the private jet sporting the F1 team’s livery.

Whether that partnership has remained to this day remains to be seen, with the aircraft, registered as OE-FAA, flying as recently as April 18, when it operated several flights between Salzburg Airport (SZG) and St. Gallen Altenrhein Airport (ACH). Meanwhile, the F1 circuit visited the Shanghai International Circuit on April 21 and a few days before, meaning that the private jet was not in China for the race.

Why Is The HondaJet So Popular?

  • Aircraft flying on: VistaJet’s fleet

Meanwhile, Scuderia Ferrari, represented by Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, has a partnership with VistaJet, a private jet charter company that also owns a fleet of aircraft from various manufacturers, including Bombardier, Cessna, Embraer, Dassault, and Gulfstream. Nevertheless, VistaJet said that as the team’s official partner it,

“[…] is flying the team between races throughout the Formula 1 season. With often only days between Grands Prix, VistaJet will be flying across five continents to support Scuderia Ferrari in this truly global competition.”

  • Aircraft sold: Bombardier Challenger 605

While Lewis Hamilton has since sold his Bombardier Challenger 605, the joint-record holder for the most F1 World Drivers' Champions (WDC), the British driver had the aircraft for quite a while. The distinct cherry livery charted Hamilton, as well as his dogs, until 2019 when the driver parted ways with the Challenger 605.

The aircraft was registered as G-LCDH, with it being active on the radar almost three years ago when it was operated by London Executive Aviation Ltd 11EB, according to data by FlightAware . Presumably, it has been sold off and re-registered.

Why Did Lewis Hamilton Sell His Cherry Red Bombardier Challenger?

2 fernando alonso, representing: aston martin aramco f1 team.

  • Aircraft flying on: Dassault Falcon 900

Fernando Alonso, the driver with the most experience on the grid, has been the owner of a Dassault Falcon 900 trijet. The Spaniard has also partnered with EMCJET, a full-service aircraft brokerage and management company in 2020. At the time, the company said that Alonso became its official private aviation partner. Memo Montemayor, the Founder and President of EMCJET, said that Alonso is a great athlete, business owner, and philanthropist.

“We are delighted to partner with him as he travels the globe for his races and business.”

However, EMCJET did not detail much about the partnership and whether the company would take over the management of Alonso’s private jet. The Spanish driver has published two Instagram posts in January 2021 and January 2022 about traveling with EMCJET. His 2023 helmet included the company’s logo, meaning that the driver still had partnered with the company at the time. Whether that partnership has remained in place is unclear.

The Private Jets Of Formula One

1 max verstappen, representing: oracle red bull racing.

  • Aircraft flying on: Dassault Falcon 900EX

While Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher share the record for the most WDC titles, Max Verstappen is hot on their heels, with the Dutch driver having won three titles in a row. And as Verstappen continues dominating the sport, he jets around the world using his Dassault Falcon 900EX private jet, registered as PH-OTF.

The aircraft sports a distinct all-black livery with orange accents, representing Verstappen’s home country of the Netherlands. However, the aircraft does not appear on flight tracking websites, including ADS-B Exchange, which typically shows aircraft that are not shown on traditional flight tracking sites.

Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix returns to South Florida. Here's what you need to know

By Hunter Geisel

Updated on: April 18, 2024 / 1:26 PM EDT / CBS Miami

MIAMI GARDENS — In about two weeks, Formula 1 revs up again in South Florida.

South Florida Motorsports (SFM), the organizers of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix 2024, have announced that the international racing event will return to Miami Gardens, taking place the first weekend of May at the Miami International Autodrome next to Hard Rock Stadium.

Entering its third year , Miami has been chosen as one of the only six venues to host an F1 Sprint in 2024, meaning there will be an extra race held that Saturday and guaranteeing high-octane action throughout the weekend.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's race.

Now available for purchase, the General Admission Campus Pass offers three days of on-track action throughout the weekend and across the Autodrome.

For $150 per day, the General Admission Campus Pass offers a variety of views, food, art and entertainment for an immersive F1 weekend to reflect "the culture of Miami throughout," SFM stated.

The pass includes access to the 300 level of Hard Rock Stadium to see the F1 Team Village on the football field, the support paddocks, an expanded F1 Fan Zone, a view of the winners' podium and access to the track at the end of the race. According to the event organizers, the support paddocks access, which hosts the F1 Academy and Porsche series, is new this year for Campus Pass holders.

"We have been eagerly anticipating the launch of this year's Campus Pass and are excited to announce it is now available for fans," stated Tyler Epp, president of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix. "As we enter the third year of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, we are proud and excited to welcome fans to our beautiful Campus, which is entirely unique in auto racing and has been thoughtfully imagined and perfected to provide the best fan experience on the Formula 1 calendar."

"This General Admission ticket offers great value for an immersive Formula 1 weekend," Epp continued. "And with the addition of a Sprint race guaranteeing three days of competitive action, all Campus Pass holders will experience everything our race is famous for, from the exciting on-track racing to the very best music, food and culture Miami has to offer."

To purchase tickets, visit f1miamigp.com/tickets .

On the Track

The Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix begins Friday, May 3, and concludes on Sunday, May 5. Below is the preliminary schedule of racing events. The exact times have not yet been announced, but the schedule will be updated when more information is released.

Sunday, May 5

  • Porsche Carrera Cup North America Second Race — TBD
  • Ferrari Parade Laps — TBD
  • F1 Academy Second Race — TBD
  • Formula 1 Drivers' Parade — TBD
  • Formula 1 Grand Prix — TBD

For the first time, Miami will be one of six locations to host a Sprint race in 2024. Held on Saturday, the Sprint is roughly a third the distance of a Grand Prix and "will guarantee three days of competitive action" in Miami Gardens this year, SFM stated. The other locations to host Sprints include Austin, Texas; China, Austria, Brazil and Qatar.

On track, there will be no changes to the driver lineups for the first time in the sport's history. This means Florida's Logan Sargeant will enjoy another season at Williams Racing as the American driver, who is looking to build on his rookie campaign from last year. According to SFM, Sargeant turned 23 on New Year's Eve and will be keen to increase his points haul going into this season.

One notable change to the 10 teams is the departure of Alfa Romeo, meaning that the Swiss-based Sauber squad will be known as the Stake F1 Team moving forward before Audi takes ownership of the organization full-time in 2026, SFM stated.

However, a new addition to this season will be the F1 Academy — the innovative junior series that has been created to prepare female drivers for higher levels of motorsport competition, to find a future female Formula 1 star. The championship will visit seven different venues this year and every round will form a part of the support package of a Grand Prix weekend. Each team will also feature a car that will be affiliated to one of the 10 F1 teams. Miami is set to host a round during its weekend, which will further add to the action to the third staging of a Formula 1 race at Hard Rock Stadium.

Off-road Activities

Other than watching the fast cars and races, there are plenty of things to do at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

For starters, there will be a live auction on Saturday night. In partnership with international car auction house Bonhams | Cars, fans will be able to enjoy the display of contemporary, modern supercars and Formula 1 race cars around the Miami campus during the weekend.

Aside from the auction, fans will be delighted to hear that the Hard Rock Beach Club returns for 2024. As one of the most iconic hospitality spaces at the Autodrome, the venue is located on the outside of Turns 11-13 on the track and is the place where "South Beach meets Formula 1," SFM stated.

Exclusively available to Hard Rock Beach Club ticket holders, the space features cabana-style seating, signature pools, bars and all-day cuisine, along with world-class entertainment from top performers such as singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and DJ John Summit. SFM stated that more A-list acts will be announced in the coming weeks. If you're unable to catch these performances live, you can always watch them anywhere at the venue since they will be streamed for all fans throughout the campus.

Speaking of top performers, fans are expected to watch Grammy winner Marc Anthony to perform the national anthem ahead of Sunday's race before drivers start their engines. To cap off the weekend, Grammy-winning DJ and producer Kaytranada will close out the weekend with an on-stage performance following Sunday's trophy presentation.

My parents and extended family were almost all teachers and educators. With two months of summer off from work, along with plenty of vacation days, they had the privilege of enjoying both their work and traveling around the world.

They were bitten by the wanderlust bug. At family events, everyone would share their most recent exciting trip. My family seamlessly blended their love of travel, exploring new and different sites, with their occupation of teaching elementary, middle and high school students.

Is Frequent Traveling Compatible With Your Lifestyle?

With many jobs requiring frequent travel, some professionals purposely seek out these opportunities that afford them the chance to see the world. By carefully evaluating the travel requirements, candidates can make informed decisions about jobs that are a compatible fit for their circumstances, preferences and career aspirations.

Extensive travel can disrupt personal and family life, making it challenging to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Professionals with caregiving obligations may find frequent travel particularly burdensome or impossible.

However, for those who have wanderlust, a career that offers the opportunity to get paid to explore new places may be a dream come true. In these roles, accommodations and travel expenses are often covered, while you get to immerse yourself in different cultures.

Diplomats are generally skilled negotiators with outstanding interpersonal skills who possess knowledge of foreign policy and languages.

Digital Nomad

Alternatively, the digital nomad lifestyle offers a unique work experience that comes with the autonomy of not being chained to an office. Like the name implies, it affords professionals with the opportunity to work remotely while traveling freely.

If you are looking for a job change that will be more suitable to your desire to travel, consider freelance projects or finding companies that offer remote positions. A downside to the digital nomad lifestyle is that you will be responsible to cover your own travel expenses, such as transportation, lodging and meals.

Moscow metro blasts: another fsb inside job.

moscow metro blasts: another fsb inside job?

“ The first explosion took place on a train after it had stopped in the Lubyanka station in central Moscow , close to the headquarters of Russia’s FSB security service, a spokeswoman for the Russian emergencies ministry told AFP .”

“ The first blast at the Lubyanka metro station killed 22 people and wounded 12 . The second at Park Kulturi station left 12 dead and 7 wounded ,” reported AFP . Russian Federal Security Service chief Alexander Bortnikov has already blamed Chechen rebels for the attack, an explanation slavishly accepted by western media outlets like the BBC who are already running feature articles about the history of terrorism in Russia that completely fail to mention the FSB’s direct role in almost every major attack to have taken place over the last 10 years .

Since the explanation that two female suicide bombers with explosives strapped to their bodies were responsible for the bombing has come directly from the FSB , past history means we can only treat the official story with the utmost suspicion.

The notorious Russian FSB has a documented history of staging false flag events in order to accomplish political agendas .

update: bombs kill 12 in russia’s dagestan region from cnn : Twelve people – nine of them police officers – were killed Wednesday when two bombs exploded in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan , officials told CNN. Another 23 people, including 11 police officers, were hospitalized with wounds from the bombings, at least one of which was carried out by a suicide bomber, according to a spokesman for the Dagestan police and Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee in the Russian prosecutor general’s office. It happened two days after female suicide bombers killed at least 39 people on the Moscow metro .
