Looking down the rows of grapes at Old Pueblo Cellars, one of the only wineries in Tucson proper

Tucson, Arizona is located in Southern Arizona and is the second largest city behind Phoenix . It is surrounded by beautiful mountains on all sides and is very close to Arizona’s premier grape growing regions in Sonoita, Elgin, and Willcox.

Old Pueblo Cellars is the only actual vineyard in the Tucson metropolitan area . The rest are either tasting rooms operated by Arizona wineries or unique wine bars and bottle rooms. All are worth a visit!

Flying Leap Vineyards & Distillery

Flying Leap Vineyards is technically located in Wilcox, AZ about 80 miles East of Tucson. Thankfully they have tasting rooms in Elgin , Tucson , and our favorite, Tubac , Arizona.

Flying Leap was started by a group of former Air Force Pilots. They grow most of their own grapes, including Grenache, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, and their most popular grape, Tannat.

We loved their Petit Verdot, Tannat, and 2020 Escape, which is a white wine blend which was part of a tasting at their Tubac location.

Address: 100 N Railroad Ave, Willcox, AZ 85643

Phone: (520) 455-5499

Old Pueblo Cellars

Old Pueblo Cellars is located 19 miles northwest of Tucson near Marana and Oro Valley and is one of the top vineyards in the area. They worked with the University of Arizona to select varieties of grapes that grow best in Tucson’s unique climate.

Old Pueblo settled on Viognier (my fave!), Malvasia Bianca, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Tempranillo (another favorite).

The winery is gorgeous with stunning views of the Catalina Mountain s and great tasting wines. It’s a no-brainer for anyone staying in Tucson!

Charron only grows Merlot grapes on site. They source additional grapes from growers in Willcox, Arizona to be able to provide a broader selection of wines.

We love the variety of wines and especially their dry blushes (think Rose). A t around $30 per bottle, they are also very affordable vs. many of their competitors.

Actual Blasian Tour Photos

Alcantara Vineyards is a dream venture created by Barbara and husband Bob to provide their family and partners the opportunity to live the dream of growing a vineyard community and winery. It was in cultivating the vineyards and embracing the land that Barbara and her family soon realized there was a bigger picture in this hidden treasure along the confluence of two rivers. You’ll find Alcantara Vineyards has over 20,000 vines and offers 17 different varietals. While you sip wine and enjoy our peaceful surroundings, which include vineyards, a grass picnic area, the Verde River and bald eagles flying overhead, you’ll find you are part of our community and family.

Merkin Osteria

“Our Farm to Your Table. Our Vines to Your Glass.”

Our fruits and vegetables are farmed by our Merkin team in our Verde Valley greenhouses, gardens, and orchards. All of our pastas and breads are made from scratch using from Arizona Heirloom and Italian milled wheat flour.

Mother Nature beats the drum to which we march and jump. So our menu remains flexible and changes weekly or even daily depending on her whims. It’s a challenge and journey we gladly embrace and we sincerely hope you join us in our quest.

grapes in a challenging and surprising place. Arizonans have shown support for these adventures and we look forward to this challenge. We also look forward to sharing our passion for wine and the wine lifestyle.

We believe Wine is not just a beverage but an experience. Wine is the most social of drinks. When people want to connect, they generally do so over a glass of wine. A nice bottle of wine is the usual feature of any date night. And of course, wine has an intimate connection with our environment. We farm grapes, in harmony with our surroundings, trying to leave a small footprint, and creating a lifestyle that can survive the challenges of our climate, today and in the future.

Our winery is in northern Arizona’s Verde Valley only minutes away from Sedona in the small historic valley of Page Springs. Javelina Leap Winery processes approximately 44 tons of Arizona grown grapes equaling about 2600 cases of fine Javelina Leap Arizona wine. When you visit us, you will be sampling wines at a fully functional vineyard and winery. Our harvested Arizona grapes are picked, de-stemmed, fermented, pressed, aged, bottled and labeled all right here at the winery which is equipped with a 100 barrel capacity cellar currently full of aging Arizona wine. We also offer tours of our winemaking facility and barrel room.

Charron Vineyard

Vineyard History

Charron is one of the oldest vineyards in southern Arizona.  The soil, lay of the land and an altitude of 4200 feet with warm days and cool nights makes it a perfect vineyard location. In spring 1994 the first Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines were planted with the first wines becoming commercially available in 1999.   In 2000 the White Merlot won the Governor's Choice Award and has sold out every year since.

We are happy to announce that we have resumed our normal hours of 10 am - 6 pm Thursday thru Sunday

We are taking every precaution to keep our customers and staff safe.

Our tables and chairs are sanitized between customers, and menus and pens are one-time use.

We are also operating at reduced capacity so please bear with us while we adjust to the new normal!

Northern Arizona Wine tour

Deep sky Vineyard

We just couldn’t get enough with our first vineyard experience in Argentina; literally. The growing cycle for grapes starts with bud break and ends with harvest. In Argentina, bud break is in October and harvest is in April. In Arizona, bud break is in April and harvest is in September. So rather than getting six months off we decided it would be more fun to work all year long and Deep Sky Vineyard was born!

Deep Sky is a 20 acre boutique vineyard located just south of Willcox, Arizona. From the start we had one goal – to prove great grapes could be grown in Arizona. As vineyard owners we believe that “80% of the wine is made in the field.” This means that great wine begins with great fruit and great fruit requires a lot of attention. There are 15,000 vines and each one is touched at least 5 times a season as we: prune, leaf–pull, shoot thin, drop fruit, and finally harvest.

What to wear

The first rule is to dress casual and comfortable, the goal is to have fun.

Avoid shoes or clothes that make it difficult to easily enter and exit a limo or walk about.

Evenings can get cool in spring, fall, and winter, consider a light jacket as a backup.

Avoid white or colors that will easily show wine spills and stains.

Tipping - Driver gratuity

All tips are certainly appreciated.  Industry standard for personal drivers is 20%.  Consider that your driver spent a day servicing and cleaning your limo, ensuring your travel safety, guiding you to the top wineries, answering questions, and helping you with boxes and bags.

Best tour months? - (book early hint: 4-6 weeks is not too early)
