How to Prepare for the Ocean Monument Raid
Things you should bring on the raid.
- Water Breathing Potion (at least 3): These potions allow you to breathe underwater. Therefore, you’ll have just enough time to find the Elder Guardians and the sponge rooms.
- Night Vision Potion (at least 3): This potion will make it much easier to see underwater.
- Depth Strider Boots : Thanks to this enchantment, you will be much more agile in water, avoiding the guardian attacks. Check out the linked guide on Minecraft enchantments to learn how to apply the depth strider enchantment.
- Aqua Affinity Helmet : This useful enchantment will allow you to mine blocks faster underwater.
Things You Can Carry for Emergencies (Optional)
- Doors (as many as you want): Placing doors underwater will create breathable space for you to refill the oxygen bar. This works only on Java Edition .
- Bucket : Putting yourself against the corner and spamming the right click while holding the bucket will create breathable space and also allow you to refill the bubble bar.
- Trident : Trident enchanted with Impaling V enchantment deals more damage to the underwater mobs than the Netherite sword with Sharpness V and Sweeping Edge III. This will just speed up the raiding process.
- Bucket of Milk : Drinking milk will remove the mining fatigue effect, but it’ll also remove the potion effects. So, be sure to bring a few extra potions with you or just wait until the mining fatigue wears off.
- Bucket of Axolotl (as many as you want): After befriending an axolotl in Minecraft , it will attack underwater hostile mobs, such as guardians, so they can be your little helpers in the fight.
- Conduit : Setting up a conduit will greatly help you in taking down a monument, all thanks to the buffs it provides.
How to Raid an Ocean Monument in Minecraft
Dealing with the guardians.
There will be many guardians all around and inside the monument, but you don’t have to fight them . There are so many of them, and they will continually spawn. Their laser attack is easily avoided by breaking their line of sight, which means they cannot see you anymore.
Fighting the Elder Guardians
When it comes to the elder guardian in the topmost part of the monument, it’s most difficult to find in most cases. You will need to traverse through the monument’s labyrinth to find the corridor and entrance to the third elder guardian’s room. If you find yourself in a dead-end, look up, as there is usually a way up in those cases.

However, the most wanted blocks from this structure are sponges . They are simple blocks that can clear water up to 7 blocks away in all directions. When the sponge absorbs water, it becomes wet. You can dry them in the furnace using fuel or simply place them anywhere in the Nether. The number of sponge rooms a monument will have is random. Sometimes there are no sponge rooms in one monument but another could have two.

Ocean Monument [ ]
Ocean monuments are naturally generated underwater structures that appear in deep oceans. They are inhabited by guardians and elder guardians . Below are instructions on how to recreate your own. For Structures, see [ here ]
Considerations [ ]
- Ocean Monuments generate with water source blocks instead of air. For simplicity, the below blueprints use air, but you may wish to add water in place of air. To do this, you will need to begin on a completely solid surface and lay down water source blocks as you go.
- If it has no water, Ocean Monuments have inaccessible floors (floors that can't be reached by jumping) in Survival mode. You may need to add some water or additional blocks to access the upper floors.
- A player-made Ocean Monument will not spawn Guardians or Elder Guardians , even if flooded. The only way is to use a Spawn Egg .
Requirements [ ]
Space: A 58 × 58 block area to build in. A height of at least 22 blocks or more if foundational pillars are included
Resources or Materials [ ]
These numbers are for Penthouse layers and above ONLY, they will be updated at some point.
Blueprint [ ]
To save space, some layers will begin at an offset. The top-left corner is at coordinate (1,1) . The bottom-right corner is at coordinate (58,58) . The monument entrance is at the bottom of the blueprints. Possible rooms are outlined in Redstone Blocks. See Monument/Structure for more on room generation. Pillars extend downward to the ocean floor.

In large ocean biomes you can find an ocean monument every 1000 units in a grid pattern east-west and north-south directions. Some are even 300-400 unit/meters apart from each other. Its pretty dumb pattern to be honest but is predicable so makes ocean monuments very easy to find once you find one in a large Ocean biome.
Although in Minecraft, sometimes it isn't about the goal of the mission, but the mission itself - preparing, navigating, and clearing the Ocean Monument is just another activity to do. This, playing the game itself has a point. You don't just go for the loot, the experience in an ocean monument is unique IMO.
For technical reasons, you need to know the seed of your world to use Ocean Monument Finder, unless, of course, you want to find a seed for a new world. If you're playing SSP, the app is able to fetch the seed from your savegame. Alternatively, you can use the /seed command ingame. In SMP, you can use the same command if you have sufficient rights.
Good points. Most people don't see Ocean Monuments as lackluster because of how awersome and efficient Guardian Farms are. Truth is they are not part of the Ocean Monuments design and some mojang developers don't like those kind of farms. Without those farms, Ocean Monuments are definitely not worth it. Reply reply.
The ocean monument is constructed entirely from variants of prismarine and lit by sea lanterns. It includes a large central section flanked between two wings. Under the monument are 23 giant pillars that stretch to the ocean floor. The main entrance is located at the front of the central section. The size of the monument is 58×58 blocks wide and 23 blocks tall (not including the pillars). The ...
