Ohio State will host Kentucky transfer center Aaron Bradshaw on an official visit this weekend, The Dispatch can confirm.

The visit, first reported by 247Sports.com, will bring the No. 1 center prospect in the 2023 class to Ohio State’s campus as the Buckeyes look to add some more size to their roster under first-year coach Jake Diebler . The 7-1, 226-pound Bradshaw averaged 4.9 points and 3.3 rebounds while playing 13.7 minutes per game in his lone season with the Wildcats.

A Roselle, New Jersey, native, Bradshaw was the No. 5 national prospect and a five-star player in the 247Sports rankings. The recruiting service now ranks him as the No. 36 overall transfer in the country and a four-star transfer prospect.

In his lone season with Kentucky, which recently lost coach John Calipari to Arkansas and hired BYU’s Mark Pope as his replacement, Bradshaw appeared in 26 games including 10 starts and averaged 13.7 minutes per appearance, shooting 63.4% from two-point range (45 for 71) and 28.6% (4 for 14) from 3. His college career got off to a delayed start after he underwent surgery for a foot injury last June, and he missed the first seven games of the year.

Bradshaw had seven double-digit scoring games and posted 17 points and 11 rebounds, both career-high totals, in a Dec. 9 win against Penn.

Bradshaw is one of two known transfer players taking official visits to Ohio State this weekend. Matt Allocco, a graduate transfer guard from Princeton who graduated from Hilliard Bradley, is also expected to be on campus for his first official visit . Allocco is expected to also visit Notre Dame and is still considering Butler and Villanova.

The Buckeyes have three roster spots available for 2024-25 and are in the market for another guard, a stretch-4 and a center to aid returning starter Felix Okpara and second-year center Austin Parks, who battled injuries and was lightly used in his first season.

'These are important hires': OSU president Carter on regional deans during campus visits

D uring a time of transition for most of Ohio State's regional campuses, new President Ted Carter said he is committed to ensuring the regional sites remain a vital part of the university system.

"I'll just say it very clearly. The regional campuses are here to stay," Carter said Wednesday in Mansfield when asked about the future of OSU regional campuses. "They are a part of our system. They are an important part and, again, if we are really going to fulfill our land grant mission dating all the way back to 1870, this is one of the most critical parts of our mission."

Carter visited the university's five regional campuses this week for the first time since he assumed his presidency.

Carter's Tour de Regional Campuses began at the Lima and Newark campuses Tuesday, followed by the Marion and Mansfield campuses on Wednesday.

"It's heartwarming to see what we're doing," Carter said Tuesday morning at the Lima campus.

Carter said he wanted to get to the regional campuses as soon as he could to see what life is like on each. He met with deans, staff, faculty and students at each of the campuses, including Ohio State University Lima students Kyria Knous and Ely Roa.

Knous, a third-year student studying social work, and Roa, a fourth-year biology major — both from Wapakoneta —said there are lots of opportunities at the regional campuses, but stigma can hold some students back from applying or attending.

"College wouldn't have been an option for me if not for the Lima campus," said Knous, who receives the full-tuition Arthur and Marian Rudd Scholarship.

"There's a stigma that Lima or regional campuses are not as good as Columbus," Roa added. "My experience shows that's not the case."

Both students said the smaller class sizes have allowed them to better network with their professors and peers, and they have some of the same extracurricular opportunities as Columbus campus students, such as studying abroad.

Knous plans to study abroad this summer in Argentina. Roa plans to graduate this spring and begin medical school at the Columbus campus this fall.

OSU regional campuses search for leaders

Carter's visits come as these regional campuses are in a moment of flux.

Four of Ohio State's five regional campuses — Lima , Mansfield , Marion and Newark — are hiring for their next permanent leaders. The Wooster campus is under the purview of the dean of Ohio State's College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, housed at the university's Columbus campus.

All four leadership searches began on July 19, 2023, and are being executed by Buffkin Baker, a Tennessee-based higher education executive search firm paid for by the university.

No interviews have yet taken place for any of the four dean positions. Carter said he's looking for leaders who are academics and who can draw both students and faculty to the campuses.

"We need all that talent here," he said. "We'll be careful. These are important hires."

Undergraduate enrollment has also taken double-digit hits at all five regional campuses since the pandemic.

Newark, the largest of Ohio State's regional campuses, enrolled 2,422 students in fall 2023 for the current school year, a 15.6% decrease from 2020. Lima saw the greatest hit to enrollment, down 24.7% during that same period. Enrollment at the Mansfield campus is down 16.6%, Marion is down 23.6% and Wooster is down 15.5%.

Enrollment did rebound a bit in fall 2023 at three of the regional campuses year-over-year, though, after a decade of decline.

Mansfield (2.5%), Newark (7%) and Wooster (3.6%) all saw a bump in their total enrollment in fall 2023 compared to fall 2022. But Marion and Lima saw fewer students, down 1.6% and 9.5% respectively.

Carter said regional campuses nationally and statewide have seen slowed student enrollment over the last 15 years.

When asked if he foresees making any big changes at the regional campuses, Carter said he's "going to make sure these campuses remain successful."

"We can't just let the environment determine our future," he said.

One person who feels positive about the future of the regional campuses is Newark campus Dean William MacDonald.

MacDonald, who will step down in June after 20 years in leadership at the campus, said Newark is "poised for a really strong future" thanks to its position near Columbus and the Intel microchip development site in Licking County.

Looking forward, MacDonald said he hopes future deans will prioritize focusing on student success at the regional campuses, from expanding housing and dining options to closing the graduation gap for all students.

"It will take time," he said. "But this remains a strong institution."

Bug Zoo, composting research, microscope viewing part of Wooster OSU campus plans April 8

osu it campus tour

  • OSU CFAES will host Eclipse Day
  • Space is limited to first 300 cars.
  • Two campus buildings will be open for early activities.

The public is invited to spend Monday with the campus community at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster, for CFAES Wooster Campus Eclipse Day, beginning at 8 a.m.

Parking is limited to 300 cars , so event coordinators are encouraging visitors to come early and spend the day at events taking place in the Wooster Science Building and the Campus Conference Center.

Associate Dean and Director of the Wooster Campus Andrew Michel said a number of science-based activities aimed at students in grades K-12 and their families are on the agenda 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Events such as the United Titanium Bug Zoo, research on composting, microbe viewing with microscopes, build-your-own greenhouse, water testing and an eclipse livestream are planned. Visitors also can walk and explore the Secrest Arboretum .

"At 1 p.m. we will encourage everyone toward viewing areas on campus , anywhere on the grass, to start preparing for the eclipse, which will start around 2 p.m.," Michel said. "Full totality is expected to occur at 3:15, with the eclipse completely over by 4:30. We will have a limited number of Buckeye-themed scarlet and gray eclipse glasses available."

Hard to prepare for event

Michel said it is hard to predict and prepare for the event, not knowing what to expect weather-wise or crowd-wise.

"We have heard neighboring hotels the Hilton Garden Inn and Comfort Suites are booked, so we are working with them to have people just walk across the street and visit our campus," he said. "We're assuming most of our visitors that day won't be from Wooster or Wayne County, because the people in our community are already in the path of totality and they may likely stay home and watch from there.

"We expect that people who will be on campus are from outside the county, outside the state, maybe those who aren't as familiar with our campus or our county," Michel said. "This is an opportunity for us to showcase to them what we're all about."

If it is a cloudy day or rainy, Michel expects people who are staying at the area hotels may try to find someplace else to see the eclipse.

"Even if it is cloudy, it will still get dark," he said. "You may not see the eclipse, but you will still get to experience that feeling of darkness in midafternoon, which might be neat."

Many staff, students and volunteers on hand

"We have a lot of our employees, faculty, staff and students who will still be on campus," Michel said. "We have enough volunteers on campus to showcase our campus for the community."

Michel said the Wooster CFAES website will have additional information. The website is: https://wooster.osu.edu/events/solar-eclipse-2024.

"Our visitor map gives some instructions on where parking is available, where our entrance and exit is, and showing the public which areas are accessible and those that are closed," he said.

Princeton basketball transfer Matt Allocco taking first official visit to Ohio State

osu it campus tour

Ohio State will get the first official visit for Princeton graduate transfer Matt Allocco, a source has told The Dispatch.

A 6-4, 197-pound guard with one year of eligibility remaining , Allocco will visit the Buckeyes this weekend as the Buckeyes and new head coach Jake Diebler are expected to host multiple recruits while the football team plays its annual spring game.

In 2023-24, Allocco averaged 12.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He became the ninth player in history to shoot at least 50% from the field, 40% from three and 90% from the free throw line while averaging at least 10 points per game and playing at least 30 minutes per game. He shot 50.8% from the floor (126 for 248), 90.9% from the free-throw line (70 for 77) and 42.7% from 3 (47 for 110) as Princeton won the Ivy League for a third straight year.

The Ivy League does not allow players to play sports for more than four years, so Allocco, a Hilliard Bradley product, entered the transfer portal to find a new program for his fifth and final year of college basketball. After fielding interest from numerous schools, Allocco is also scheduled to take an official visit to Notre Dame and is still also considering Butler and Villanova.

A two-time second-team all-conference player, Allocco averaged 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 91 games for the Tigers.

Ohio State currently has three available scholarships for 2024-25 . The Buckeyes have announced the addition of South Carolina transfer guard Meechie Johnson, who has one year of eligibility remaining .
