About Travel Mart

Company information.

Travel Mart is a purely tourist bus company targeting at the foreign visitors. It runs buses around a variety of the touristiest destinations in Thailand as well as international routes to neighbouring Cambodia. As journeys are long most buses are large and have ample legroom and reclining seats so that passengers can sleep. That said, on some of the shorter domestic routes minivans are used instead of larger Express buses.

If you take the Express Bus option to Cambodia or a longer route within Cambodia you can expect Wi-Fi, food and drinks, and a blanket.

Most buses depart from Khao San Road which is a popular backpacker hub in Bangkok which means that passengers do not have to make their way to one of Bangkok’s bus stations which are often crowded and confusing to navigate.

Routes served by Travel Mart

Travel Mart has a range of routes both in Thailand and to Siem Reap in Cambodia. Here are some of the most popular and useful routes.

Bangkok–Siem Reap

Leaving from Khao San Road in Bangkok, Travel Mart buses deliver you to Siem Reap , the gateway to the temples of Angkor. Tickets on this service cost between THB800 and THB1000 depending on the schedule you choose. The journey takes 8 hours and buses leave at 1 am or 9 am.

Bangkok–Koh Samet

One of the most useful domestic routes served by Travel Mart is to Koh Samet, a small island in the upper part of the Gulf. The island is the favourite quick escape to the sea fro Bangkokians, so minivans fill quickly.

Bangkok to Koh Samet route is sold as a combo ticket with ferry service included. Travel from Bangkok to Koh Samet is by minivan or not one of the larger Express buses. Departures take place from Khao San daily and leave at 8 am. The journey takes 5 hours. Tickets cost THB500.

Tickets sold on this service, particularly for international travel to Cambodia are far cheaper than flying.

International buses to Cambodia are spacious and have reclining seats.

Pick up is in Khao San Road rather than a central bus station which many travelers find easier.

If you are travelling to Cambodia then the bus staff can help you with the border crossing although you will usually have to pay an administration fee on top of the cost of the visa.

Express buses have food, snacks, and water provided as well as a steward to help with any issues you may have.

Buses on shorter routes are minivans rather than Express buses and can be crowded and feel cramped.

Buses don’t run to a wide variety of international destinations so unless you are going to travel to Siem Reap you will need to choose a different company.

Minivans may not have working air conditioning and do not have toilets.

Keep in mind

Try to make sure you arrive on time in line with the stated departure time. Passengers who are late may miss the bus and have to wait for another one and lose their ticket. Pick up is in Khao San Road but make sure you leave time to find the correct location.

If you are travelling on a route within Thailand make sure to check whether the company uses an Express Bus or a minivan so that you can plan accordingly.

Travellers reviews

There have been frequent reports of buses being late to depart . As delays are frequent you will need to leave ample time at your destination if you are planning to continue your journey.

Passengers have said that staff may help with visas at the Cambodian border but that they charge a USD10 administration fee for this. If you do not want to pay this fee then you will need to queue and process the visa yourself.

Buses are advertised as having Wi-Fi on board although there have been reports that this often doesn’t work. As such don’t rely on having Wi-Fi on board as this may not be the case.

Western Bus Station

Note that its also very much possible to simply buy tickets at about ANY of the dozens of travel-agents spread around the Khao Sarn area-where obviously most passengers will also stay anyway. You pay THB cash and this is mostly a bit cheaper as the $$ prices. Tr-mart OFFICE is a bit hidden in a soi behind the National Gallery. It has been there for many years, but hitherto they used VANs to the border and other transp. on the Khmer side. This very same red bus before was used on other bekpek routes inside TH. These double deck Thai buses are now banned on many lines as they made too many accidents. BTW-does that Virak Binghtam still also runs? Just saw a Khmer rd+white but otherwise no names on it bus dumping off pax yesterday eve.

I called them last night and they did confirm that the bus makes a pickup at the Hua Lamphong Train Station. Kinda strange that they don’t have it as an option as it would prevent people from unnecessarily spend $$ getting to the main pickup spot. Thanks for responding, by the way!

I’m not seeing the Hua Lamphong 9:30am pickup for the Travel Mart Bud. How can I confirm so as not to miss the bus? Thanks

I’m not sure, because only the other pickup seems to be bookable. I assume if you book the KSR pickup and call them, you can tell them you will be at Hua Lamphong.

EXCELLENT! Do not hesitate to book this experience with BTM.

Fabulous experience from start to finish. Booking was easy with a lovely man called Sam, who contacted me through WhatsApp after my initial enquiry. Early pick up from the hotel at 0400 hrs in an air conditioned car. Bottles of water provided. Our driver was courteous and polite. Private jeep tour of Yala with an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable about the animals in the park. In the morning we were lucky enough to see 4 leopards. Our guide told us it was difficult to see 1 leopard, but to see 4 is extraordinary! 1 was sleeping in a tree, another sleeping on a rock and 2 crossed the road in front of us. Throughout the day we saw elephants, crocodiles, peacocks, deers, monitor lizards, beautiful blue king fishers, wart hogs, buffaloes and monkeys to name a few. Lunch, drinks & fresh fruits were provided in a safe place within Yala park. This is 100% a "private tour" No one else in our jeep. Top tips:- take sunscreen, binoculars & toilet roll!

One of the best experiences in Sri Lanka!!!! Sam and Dinesh were sooo helpful from the moment we booked the trip to the day of the excursion. Best way to see all the highlights if Sri-Lanka’s beauty in just two days. Great program. The train ride was the best memory of Sri Lanka.

This was not in our bucket list at the beginning. But saman recommended this to us when I asked about things in Bentota. Within 2 hours , we witness so much of things like nice mangrove area , animals like crocodiles, water monitors, money and many birds. Thanks to Travel Mart for making our holiday unforgettable.

I booked a ticket with the total amount of 1071 dollars, EVA airs, paid with my credit card, and then came up $100 more. Then was persuaded to book a 1-way ticket for $548, then I canceled after a few days, cheapFaremart scammed me with a $175 fee, $38 agent fee, and airlines $270 lost. long story short, I lost 86% of my ticket amount> Cheap fair mart is a scam, they speak Indian English and I have a tough time to understand. PLS DO NOT book with them, go with Travelocity, Expedia, trusted websites

Cheapfaremart offered the lowest airfare!

Cheapfaremart offered the lowest airfare rates after searching so many popular websites. The customer service representative, SAM, was sooooo courteous, professional, patient, and went above and beyond to help me get the best possible airfare and would not end our conversation until he was sure I was happy and satisfied. Just an update, since my last review. I am awaiting for my refund from this company, still. This is despite writing to them several times and getting the same reply, another 4-6 weeks. I now retract my previous 3 star rating and would give them a -5 or a -20 if there was a negative rating. This company does not deserve to be in business. Its license must be revoked. It's a fraudulent and a scammer company. After nearly 3 months, I'm where I was initially, totally and utterly disgusted.

If you're coming because you saw this on instagram, please dont set your expectations too high!! I'm really happy I found this place by chance when strolling through the area. Then I saw it on my IG feed weeks later and all I could think was how content creators over-hype all these hidden gems in LA. I just notice that influencers put an exaggerated spin on spots like these to make them seem a lot bigger or crazier than they actually are for the sake of views. Not to say they aren't worth visiting, but I think the fun part about these kinda shops is discovering it for yourself or that element of surprise. I've just been severely disappointed by some places I've visited that didn't live up to the expectations set by content creators. It's not the businesses fault, but just how social media works these days. Anyways, it's a small shop that you'll probably get through in a few minutes, but definitely worth checking out. I'm so glad I so happened to stumble upon this place by surprise, and I hope that's how you find it too :)

TRUE FACT: It's not -everyday- you find a place that significantly surprises, is pure cool, and is flippin' hilarious....... Or is it -everyday-? The Time Travel Mart One time, I was told this about this place that was selling time travel supplies, that's pretty much what I was told. So in my head I thought it could be anything from a joke shop to an eyebrow-less guy's electronic shop. But anyway I went, well we went, me and my friend D. Miscavige. Maybe the best part about this place is discovering it. It's really well hidden / in plain-sight on a major street. But still, when you walk up, there it is: A giant sign that clearly reads "Time Travel Mart" and windows that say a whole-lot else. (i.e. Chubble, and Robot Milk) Awesome, then you're inside what looks like like an outpost/sundry shop/living room. Cool, then, upon best the part, "Exploration" you experience what's a like a mini Willy Wonka factory reveal but for "Time Travel" (everything is edible = nothing makes sense).......................... But it all does, in the end.) The space is filled with all sorts-a-stuff. (loose rundown)*ever changing 1. Medicines, tonics, bottles, potions, liquids, maybe purification slugs. 2. Choice gear. 3. Cold Fusion 4. An exquisite library. 5. -Infinite- other stuff BOOBAM - this place is bumpp. And now here I am, and I'm like what is this place? What time is it? Enter lovely lady from the future: She goes on to make sense of the whole moment. She explains that all of this awesome stuff is made by, and supports 826LA; 826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Cool right? Yes very. But what makes this place of particular note is simple: The idea is spot-on, the practice is spot-on (anyone with something to share or teach can apply to volunteer) And the products are spot-on (seriously spot on) You read the stuff I wrote before. Some other cool notes, you can download an 826LA album on iTunes that kids wrote, and some true pro music makers performed. Watch how much of that robot milk you drink. Make sure to get your PASTport. This really is the type of place that improves everything around it. And absolutely should be -anywhere- it's needed. Timing is everything. My son and I had a great time yesterday (or was it another century?) at the Time Travel Mart. There are great books and all sorts of goodies to inspire your imagination. I loved the poetry phone booth where I listened to a beautifully hopeful piece about the future. The clerk was very helpful also. Don't forget to purchase a Past-Port and have it stamped. I cannot reveal more: you have to go and experience it for yourself.

Such a cool place! The guy at the entrance was so welcoming, and was quick to explain the real purpose behind the shop -- which was really the best part! Once I learned about the awesome charity efforts, it made the products in the shop much more valuable and appealing. Even if you don't buy something, its worth going to see the cool set up and hearing their story. Keep up the awesome work!

Mar Vista Time Travel Mart! If you are traveling through time (or just down Venice Blvd), the Time Travel Mart stocks caveman candy, robot parts, and Lucky Peach. Even if you're stuck in this epoch, there are still items for sale that you'll actually use. I scored a little glass bottle of the Gold Rush perfume by Yosh (just $25!!!!!!), and bought a horseshoe and a poster ("Fire Bad But Also Good") for a unique housewarming gift. Would be a great place to shop for my nieces, too. Mar Vista is a neighborhood in need of some love, and the Time Travel Mart and the good people at 826LA are bringing it in droves.

Hello! My name is Lillian Porter and I just want to say that this little store blew my mind! My son and I happened to be walking by when we stumbled inside and we loved it! The aesthetic of the store is fantastic and this nice young lady (I think her name was yoslynn ) showed us around and spoke to us about this great program where they help children develop creative writing skills! She was so kind and helpful; it really was a wonderful experience. I already recommended this place to my students so they can come by and maybe learn something out of school. This place is truly one of a kind and I'll definitely come back again with the rest of my children. 5 stars!!

I've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally got around to checking it out. It's adorable shop, by and for time travelers. I enjoyed looking at the various items for sale but my favorite thing was the Poem Booth! You step inside a phone booth type box, dial a number on the phone and can hear and contribute to a collage type poem. Great shop to support, and a great cause as well! Go 826LA!

After attending a workshop, we purchased a dinosaur egg yesterday. Here's my daughter's review: "The Egg: We bought a dinosaur egg. The instructions said to put the egg in water. It also said to leave the egg in the water for 48 to 72 hours. So we left the egg in the water. Then, we got up the next morning and the egg had hatched. We were so proud. I love my dinosaur."

Swung by just to check it out since I'm such a fan of the Echo Park Time Travel Mart. The Mar Vista location has more of a boutique look to it, as opposed to the 7-Eleven/Quick Stop convenience store set-up I've come to love at Echo Park. While the original Time Travel Mart has multiple aisles of shelves in the center of the room with all of the products neatly arranged on them, Mar Vista has shelves along the wall, but has more items stacked around the room on tables and crates. Frankly, it's comparable in appearance to 826 Valencia in San Francisco what with there being more 826 merch and books along the shelves as well as random ropes hanging from the ceiling. They still have some of the old favorites you see at Echo Park -- like the Mammoth Chunks, Viking Odorant, bottles of Dead Languages, Barbarian Repellent, etc -- but these are more in the minority compared with the other things mentioned. Of course, this is all just commentary for the storefront. 826, overall, is great organization for kids and the world is so much the better for their existence.
