Table of Contents

Features – Trek 7200 Review

The features below define what the Trek 7200 bike is and how well it functions based on the features.

The frame is the heart of any bike, and when buying a bike, this is the first feature that most people look at to know if the cycle is a quality one. The material of a frame dramatically affects the overall functioning of a bike. Four main frame material options are carbon fiber, steel, titanium, and aluminum. The Trek 7200 hybrid has an aluminum frame, the lightest frame material. Compared to the strong steel frame, this lightweight aluminum frame is strong while on the road. In addition, this frame might help in keeping the weld in check by preventing the weld from breaking. The frame also has a slightly steeper angle of about 71.5 degrees which helps riders cycle with confidence to climb up steep hills.

2. Wheels and Tires

Wheels and tires are one of the most important things you should look for in a bike before making your choice. Good wheels and tires will give you a comfortable ride even when you cycle on rough roads. The Trek 7200 hybrid bike boasts of alloy front hub because the alloy wheel is non-corrosive and rust-free. The Shimano RM30 rear hub is another characteristic of the wheels of this hybrid bike that makes this bike effective.

4. Handlebar

Handlebars may significantly affect your riding position and may also determine whether or not you will be comfortable riding your bike. The Trek 7200’s handlebars are adjustable, which means you are free to change the height of the handlebars to your desired handlebars. In addition, you can adjust the handlebar according to your size and the terrain you are riding your bike on.

In addition, the handlebars are made of high-quality steel. What does this tell you? It tells you that the handlebar will not defoam if you ride your bike on rocky or rough paths. The characteristics of the handlebar will tell you that the bike is made for smooth roads and rough ones.

5. Speed and Gear

This hybrid bike has 24 gears available. This means you can change them however you please, especially if you ride on rocky terrain. With the 24 gears, riders can find the gears that suit them best as they ride on different terrains. m

Because this is a hybrid bike, it combines a road bike and a mountain bike. These two qualities will tell you that the bike is fast enough for both terrains. This hybrid bike is super fast with a smooth transition of gears. You can ride it at a single speed, and you can also ride smoothly at multiple speeds.

6. Brake and Suspension

This hybrid bike is fitted with unique Tektro linear brakes. These brakes have a linear-pull braking system that enhances the constant clamp force. The brakes are also powerful and very effective. What about the suspension? Well, the front fork has a suspension, and the seat post also has a suspension. Both of these suspensions will allow you to have an upright position and a comfortable one.

Compared o some of the bike seats available on the market, the softness of this bike is the second cheapest. Despite this, the soft saddle is a Bontrager Surbabia, and it is also very soft, thus making the seat ideal for long-distance cycling.

The interior of this seat is very soft, and at the bottom, you can find a shock-absorbing spring.

8. Maintenance

First, the first maintenance act you do is clean your hybrid bike. You can use dishwashing soap, water, and a brush to clean your bike. Clean your bike regularly to maintain it well. For the hybrid to work optimally, you must regularly grease your bike.

When you grease your bike, you will ensure that it does not encounter any rust or corrosion problems. The bike will also be safe from wear and tear because by greasing, you reduce friction. Also, ensure that you maintain your bike’s wheels, tires, and bearings. Once all of these are maintained, then your whole bike is maintained.

The Trek 7200 hybrid bike is a powerful bike that works on smooth roads and rocky terrains. The bike’s features, such as its soft, comfortable seat, show that you can comfortably ride the bike effectively on any road path, whether smooth or rocky roads.

Also, the lightweight of this bike makes it excellent for riding around the city. The frame has two main advantages; for starters, it can resist any terrain difficult. Second, the bike is aerodynamic and elegant, which makes it easier for the bike to maneuver.

  • Lightweight aluminum frame.
  •  It is a low-maintenance bike
  • Very durable
  • The bike rides very smoothly
  • It has a soft seat suitable for long rides
  • Adjustable handlebars
  • Has plastic pedals that are susceptible to breaking
  • A soft seat is not suitable for a mountain bike.

FAQs – Trek 7200 Review

  • How many speeds is a Trek 7200?

This Trek 7200 features 24 speeds and an 8X3 drivetrain which is ideal for a mountain bike. A single-speed is usually enough if you ride the bike on smooth roads, but if you want a bike to ride on rugged terrains, you need to choose more than 3 speeds. The Trek, therefore, is suitable for the complex landscape, all thanks to the number of speeds it has.

This number of speeds also means that the bike is super fast, with a smooth transition and smoother pedaling.

  • What type of bike is Trek 7200?

It is a hybrid bike which means it is partly a road bike and partly a mountain bike. The bike is lightweight enough to provide an exercise advantage and tough enough to allow you to go out on an adventure.

The features on this bike show exactly what kind of bike this Trek Hybrid is. From the adjustable handlebars to the soft seat that allows you to cycle for a long-distance tour. So although the company states it as a mountain bike, the features on the bike speak of it as a hybrid bike.

The handlebar allows you to adjust to the required height. This means you can easily ride the bike on hard terrain and adjust the bike when you want to ride on smooth terrain. It is also very durable, and durability is one main characteristic of a hybrid bike because such a bike is exposed to harsh environments.

The Trek 7200 bike has strong brakes, making it excellent for off-road adventures.

  • What does a Trek 7200 weigh?

What size is a Trek 7200 bike? The Trek 7200 hybrid bike weighs 26.34 lbs or 11.95 kgs. However, many people believe the bike weighs about 30.7 pounds when fully assembled. This tells you that the 26.34 lbs weight of the bike might be equivalent to a disassembled Trek 7200 bike. This is just the weight of the bike itself without the rider and the cargo on it. The rider, cargo, and bike have an expected maximum weight of 300 pounds or 136 kgs.

This weight makes it suitable for riding on but not the highly steep hills. In addition, the maximum weight expected of the weight is ideal for people who intend to carry some cargo on the bike.

3. How much is a Trek 7200 Worth

How much does a Trek 7200 multitrack cost? The Trek 7200 hybrid bike is not as expensive as anyone would think. Its general guide price has never exceeded $500. The 2000 7200 is worth $430, the 2001 Trek 7200 is worth $380, and the 2004 to 2005 Trek 7200 are both worth $390.

Those are good prices for a hybrid bike that you would want to ride on rough and smooth terrains.

  • What rider’s height does the bike fit?

This will all depend on the rider’s height. After measuring your height in centimeters, you can use the chart below to know the right bike size. Remember, this is just a general guide to the best bike size for your height as a rider. The best way to know which bike size would fit you is to go for a test ride with the bike.

Getting a bike for your height enhances your comfort when riding the bike. So apart from using this chart to see which bike size would fit you, it is vital to go for a test ride to determine the correct bike size.

The Trek 7200 bike is a hybrid configured for complex and smooth terrains. You can use it for commuting to work and off-road adventures. The Trek company is famous for making the best and most durable mountain bikes, so you can be sure that this bike also is durable and effective.

The bike is also affordable because the Trek hybrid has never had an over $500 price. But, of course, depending on the year of manufacture, the Trek has different prices, depending on what you can afford.

In conclusion, the bike is good, especially if you intend to have one bike for your smooth paved road adventures and off-road activities. The bike is also worth its price.

Also, it has a comfortable and adjustable seat post. The seat post can be tuned to fit different positions and riding styles when the bike is ridden on different terrains.

Riding Experience with the Trek 7200

The Trek 7200 offers a perfect balance between the characteristics of both mountain bikes and hybrid bikes, making it an ideal choice for those who want a comfortable ride for commuting and some off-road capabilities. Its head tube angle of 71.5° enhances its performance in climbing hills, giving riders more confidence when moving quickly on fast descents.

Additionally, the RST CT-COM C5 fork with 50 mm of travel ensures a smooth ride on various surfaces. It's well-suited for city biking, light trail riding, and commuting, making it a versatile option for experienced and beginner riders who want to learn biking.

However, it’s essential to note that the Trek 7200 is not designed for aggressive mountain biking and may not be the best choice for those seeking to leave the highway for a more extreme off-road experience.

Ergonomics and Rider Comfort

The Trek 7200 Multitrack is a popular classic all-around hybrid bike that offers riders both versatility and comfort, making it an excellent choice for various riding conditions.

One of the major strengths of the Trek 7200 Multitrack is its lightweight Alpha aluminum frame, which not only provides easy handling but also features a slightly steeper head tube angle for improved climbing and confidence during fast downhill rides. With an emphasis on comfort, the bike's geometry is designed to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable ride.

Also, this bike has been praised for its ability to accommodate various body sizes and riding styles. Its easy-shifting gears and responsive sealed brakeset Tektro offer smooth operation and increased control while navigating bumpy roads and potholes.

Comparative Analysis

Compared to the Trek 7100 , the Trek 7200 Multitrack has a slightly better drivetrain, boasting a 3x8-speed system over the 3x7-speed system of the 7100. This provides a wider gear range, allowing for easier uphill climbs and smoother riding on various terrains.

Additionally, the Trek 7200 and 7100 are affordable options, making them accessible to riders on a budget.

When compared to other bikes in its class, the Trek 7200 Multitrack holds its own in terms of value and performance. The bike offers a comfortable riding experience with its lightweight frame and wide gear range for versatile cycling on different surfaces.

However, it’s worth noting that some bikes may come with upgraded components, like disc brakes and semi-cartridge bearings used in the hub or bottom bracket, providing better braking performance in wet conditions.

As a bike enthusiast, I understand the importance of durability in choosing the right bike. We'll discuss the Trek 7200 Multitrack's durability, and build quality, including its Alpha White Aluminum frame, Tig-welded construction, and 3x7 drivetrain.

Trek 7200 Multitrack is a reliable, durable bike requiring easy, cost-effective maintenance. Its quality components contribute to its overall performance and longevity, making it a great choice for riders seeking comfort and durability.

The bike's Alpha White Aluminum frame offers lightweight, sturdy construction and exceptional corrosion resistance, ensuring a long-lasting and dependable ride. Also, you can mount bottle cages on the frame's edge to hold your water bottle.

The Tig-welded construction guarantees strong and reliable joints, further enhancing its durability. In addition, the 3x7 drivetrain from Shimano Alivio ensures smooth gear shifting and dependable performance on various terrains.

The bike’s drivetrain works with the chainguard cassette and the rear derailleur to provide a range of gear rations.

Benefits and Drawbacks

As mentioned, the Trek 7200 Multitrack is a solid hybrid bike that offers a lightweight aluminum frame, easy shifting, and a comfortable 50 mm travel fork, which is more than adequate for its primary purpose as a versatile bike for both on- and off-road exploration.

Also, the head tube angle of 71.5° provides riders with climbing efficiency and added confidence on fast downhill roads.

However, you should know a few downsides to the Trek 7200 Multitrack. Some users have noted the need to replace the stock seat with a more comfortable one to improve the overall riding experience.

The bike may also be less suitable for heavy-duty off-road excursions or hardcore mountain biking, but it is often an excellent choice for casual riders who want to traverse both paved roads and light trails.

Pricing and Resale Value

When considering the purchase of a Trek 7200 Multitrack hybrid bike, it's essential to know the pricing details and the resale value should you ever decide to sell the bike.

Great Frame, Great Pedal Height, Tires and Rims easy to clean, wheels easy to remove, chain easy to lube, handle bars geometry good.

Hardware not rust proof

I have had my 7200 for about 10 years. It has been a good bicycle for me as I may ride it 3-5 days a week in summer time. It is not as fast as the light weight bikes that cost 10 time more but I like it and would buy another. The transmission is flawless, the tires get good mileage, and the factory seat isn't too bad. Maintenance for the bike is easy, cost for maintenance is reasonable.

Comfortable, durable, shifts very well.

None that I perceive. Especially for the money.

I bought this bike about 5 yrs ago. I was not looking to spend a lot on a bike but also wanted something with quality. Given I am not a bike expert and was looking for a hybrid take to ride around town and on mild trails. I am in my mid 50's so was not going to be doing any extensive, rough, trail riding. I have ridden many, many miles in this time and have been very impressed with how well this bike functions, easily shifting. I could not be more please. Numerous 30+ trips each month. I am surprised that one person described if bought would be a grave mistake. I do not see how that could be possible. Most of these reviews are great. I guess every model of anything has a rare lemon so to speak. This bike has been fantastic for me.

Although the components are not super high end they work great. The geometry is almost perfect. I've never written a more comfortable bicycle. I love the 700 wheels.

The stem ,bars , and saddle our kind of hokey. In my opinion the down tube is a little too short .

I have been riding bicycle since 95. I currently own a specialized allez which does me little good for around town riding, very long distance, and pulling my son in the trailer. So I bought this bike on Craigslist for $40 not expecting much at all other than a disposable bike but I don't really care about. I was absolutely blown away when I got home. I couldn't be more happy with this bike. Is exactly what I've been looking for for one bike that does a little bit of everything. In my opinion anyone that poo poos this bike doesn't know much about bicycling. I intend on converting it to threadless with drop bars. A better saddle and a whole bunch of racks and bags.

None, the frame sucks

To all who are reading this I have had this bike for many years and today I can no longer take it. I have somehow dealt with the bike's problems but I can take it no longer. First of all, thanks to the designer of this bike (who apparently has a mental disability) whenever there is even the least bit of water on the ground, for instance, if it is raining, has just rained, or when perhaps you ride over a small puddle, your entire backside gets covered in mud and soaked in water thanks to the lack of either front OR rear fenders. Secondly the tires have skidded and caused me to either have to abruptly stop or fall while riding multiple times. Thirdly the chain constantly slips when you pedal backwards to adjust your feet or change gears to quickly (which should not happen to a bike of around 400 dollars). In conclusion if you buy this bike you will be making a grave mistake.

Strong and dependable, good compromise between Road and Mountain bike.

It is heavier than a road bike and I get smoked by all the road bikes I encounter (plus they are a lot skinnier than me!) but they can't go in the woods like I can!

Strong and dependable, my bike is 10 years old, replacing a Schwinn Mirada Sport Mountain Bike. I ride for exercise on paved road and have taken my daughter off road on relatively groomed trails with no problems. I have ridden it over large gravel and I had to be very careful because the rocks grab the thinner tires but it handled well. Also handles off road hills well too- depending on your experience with off roading (and I am no trail hopper really but like to get messy every once in a while.) I have changed the seat, but that is more a personal choice. I tune it up every year and have had no issues with it. A nice multi-purpose bike for road or light trail riding.

Great on flat smooth roads. I winter on a barrier island - roads ideal. Got mine from my neighbor's trash three years ago. Rusted - replaced cables, brakes handlebars. Like it better than my newer 7100,

Factory seat terrible on long rides. Shifters need adjusted more than my 7100,

Its great for me -ocasional rider.

Solid bike, quality components, you will not regret buying it, only regret not buying it.

The standard saddle is something that will need to be changed for most people. Bontrager make it but it aint for long journeys with mens bits! Saddles are personal thing to be fair, whats perfect for one person is hell for another!

Hybrids are compromised by nature, they try to be an off roader and a road bike but will never be as good as either. Its not a mountain bike and it aint no racer so a person switching from either to a hybrid is going to feel a bit disappointed initially but will soon grow to love it, believe me! While not suitable for tearing down dirt tracks and never will be, what this hybrid really is, is a tank of a road bike! Trek have taken all the strong build and durability pluses of a mountain bike and the lighter weight, slimmer, large wheeled, and speed of a road bike and created a bullet proof, ultra reliable, comfortable, fast enough for most, road bike that will deal with all the pot holes and knocks of the worst roads out there, or city, while still remaining relatively light and a road bikes ability of eating up the miles without too much effort, a perfect touring, work, training or leisure bike in my opinion. It is also very capable at (within sensible speeds) dealing with muddy or rough foot paths around parks or short cuts between roads, and is that not everything most people want from a bike nowadays?

Trek 3000 series mountain bike, I forget which one, I sold it, great bike too

Great value I bought the 7200 11 years ago and I have ridden literally thousands of miles I live and ride near the beach and the handle bars have oxidized quite a bit (it took many many years) The chain never came off, the handle bars never came loose. The brakes and gears have been adjusted a few times over the years. I do not ride off road much, but I have, and it performed well

Won't ride hands free for very long before you have to grab the bars

Bottom line, the best $350 I ever spent You cannot go wrong with this bike

Great sturdy bike, Smooth on the roads and picks up great speed fairly effortlessly, nice looking too!!

Not so great off road or on the lumps and bumps!!

Had this bike for two weeks now. So happy with it as I mainly use it for commuting around the city and its gets me from A to B quickly and efficiently. However I do like to cycle on forest and gravel paths now and again, for which this bike being a hybrid should be able to handle, however even with suspension being on I find these paths an absolute nightmare and it takes everything out of me, I also find this a problem when im pushing to get up a steep hill and any small bump in the road takes it out of me. Having had mountain bikes prior to this purchase, it is a huge difference as mountain bikes provide cushioning, but add weight and prohibit speed to some extent. Therefore my overall rating is a 3 as this bike in my opinion by experience is more a road bike and in no way is suitable for any form of off roading!

Cheap way to get back into biking, which is fun in and of itself.

Chain frequently falls off I back-pedal. Breaks and shifters need constant tunings early on. Front tire easily comes unbalanced. But by far worst of all, the front handle bar works its way loose FAR too easily. I carry an alan wrench in my pocket so I can tighten it at stop lights, and once it STILL came loose just as I was starting a big down hill. I mean it was basically no good for steering the bike. Had it done this 30 seconds later, I'd have crashed at about 25 miles per hour. I've had this looked at back at the bike shop, but they said all that could really be done would be to weld it permanently. Other than that, it's a great bike!

Got it to commute to work. It tried to kill me.

Trek 7100 Review: Features and Specifications

Frame and fork.

If you’re looking for a hybrid bike that’s built to last and can handle a variety of terrains, the frame and fork are two components you want to pay close attention to. After all, they’re the backbone of the bike, providing stability and support as you ride.

Fortunately, the Trek 7100 has you covered in both departments. At the core of this bike is an Alpha white aluminum frame that’s designed to be both lightweight and strong. It’s built to last, so you won’t have to worry about it giving up on you after just a few rides.

trek multitrack 7200 women's bike

In addition to the frame, the fork is also an important component of any bike. The Trek 7100 comes equipped with a preload adjustable SR Suntour NEX fork that offers 50mm of travel.

This means that it can absorb the shock and vibrations that come with riding on rough or bumpy roads, providing a smoother and more comfortable ride.

And since the Trek 7100 is built for paved roads and city streets, the fork provides enough protection from road noise to make your ride more enjoyable.

But it’s not just about comfort – the Trek 7100 is designed to be efficient and fast, too. The steep head tube angle allows it to handle uphill and downhill commutes with ease, making it a great choice for riders who want a bike that can keep up with them.

Gears and Brakes

When it comes to hybrid bikes, having a wide gear range is crucial to getting the most out of your ride. It’s what allows you to smoothly transition between different speeds and handle a variety of terrains.

The Trek 7100 delivers on this front, thanks to its high-quality components. With 7-speed SRAM shifters and Shimano M191 front derailleur, you’ll be able to shift gears smoothly and easily, even when you’re going up steep hills or facing strong headwinds.

trek multitrack 7200 women's bike

And with an SRAM X3 rear derailleur, you can trust that your bike will handle whatever terrain you’re on.

But it’s not just about the gears – the brakes are just as important when it comes to the overall performance of a hybrid bike.

That’s why the Trek 7100 comes equipped with Tektro linear pull brakes that provide reliable stopping power when you need it. And when you’re navigating crowded city streets, you can trust that these brakes will help keep you safe and in control.

The combination of these components is what sets the Trek 7100 apart from other hybrid bikes on the market.

It’s built to deliver the performance of a road bike, but with the comfort and versatility of a hybrid bike. This makes it a great choice for commuting, exercising, or just getting around your neighborhood.

And despite being a low-end SRAM twist shifter, the performance of the Trek 7100’s gearing system is nothing to scoff at.

With a 21-speed set-up, you’ll have a wide range of gears to choose from, allowing you to customize your ride to your preferences.

Plus, the shifts are quick and easy, so you won’t have to worry about fumbling with the gears while on the go.

Wheels and Tires

The wheels and tires of a bike play a crucial role in its performance, and Trek 7100 hybrid bike has impressive wheels and tires that make it stand out from other bikes in its class.

trek multitrack 7200 women's bike

It has Bontrager H4 tires, which are sized at 700 x 35c and known for accelerating quickly on flat trails. They are perfect for smooth roads and provide excellent traction, especially when combined with the 3X7 drivetrain.

Even though it’s not as fast as a road bike, the 7100 is more comfortable to ride than many road bikes in the same price range. I believe comfort is important for commuters who spend a lot of time on their bike.

The rims also feature the same high-quality construction as the rest of the bike’s components. It’s a Bontrager 550 36-hole alloy rims, which are double-walled to ensure durability.

From experience, I’d say the combination of road bike tires and strong alloy rims make the Trek 7100 an excellent commuter bike.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7100 has a wide, well-padded saddle that offers great comfort for your backside, especially on longer rides. The flexible suspension seatpost is an added bonus, as it provides additional protection from impacts on the road.

And you can easily customize your riding position to suit your comfort level, since the seat height can be adjusted for a good fit.

trek multitrack 7200 women's bike

The handlebars are Bontrager Approved with a solid steel build and a 50mm rise. This design allows you to ride with a comfortable posture that reduces stress on your shoulders, back, and neck.

Trek 7100 also has an adjustable stem; a great feature that lets you fine-tune your bike’s fitting to your specific needs. The stem allows you to adjust the height of the handlebars, and by doing so, you can achieve a more comfortable riding position for your body type and riding style.

This feature is especially important when you’re going on long rides, as you may need to adjust your position frequently to avoid fatigue.

Size and weight

The Trek 7100 hybrid bike is a versatile and accommodating ride for riders of different sizes.

With a range of frame sizes available, from 15″ to 25″, you can find the perfect fit for your body type.

It’s important to get the right size for your height to ensure maximum comfort and efficiency when riding.

In terms of weight, the Trek 7100 is relatively lightweight for a mountain bike, making it easy to handle and maneuver.

The average weight is around 28.7 lbs (13 kg), but this may vary depending on the frame size you choose. Some sizes can weigh up to 34 lbs.

Despite its lightweight design, the Trek 7100 can support riders who weigh up to 275 to 300 lbs, which is a great feature for heavier riders.
