THATMuse logo

Visiting the Louvre with family and kids? A THATMuse treasure hunt is the perfect way to discover one of the biggest and most important art collections in the world. Discover buried secrets and earn bonus points as you examine famous Louvre icons such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Get off the beaten track to some of the museum’s quieter galleries for hidden gems, a welcome relief from the Louvre crowds.   The Louvre has over 35 thousand pieces in the collection, though 80% of visitors go straight to see the Mona Lisa, then leave! A crime, but one easily solved by choosing one of our many specialized themes to send you searching for what  you  want to see, and amazing treasures you never knew existed!    The idea is simple: compete against each other, or the clock, to photograph your team in front of as many pieces as possible within a given amount of time (90 mins to 2 hrs). A variety of additional THATMuse bonus challenges, from the embarrassing to the illuminating, are embedded in your treasure text, ensuring that hunters read about their treasure — making the hunt educational, fun & interactive!

Beauty & the Bestiary is our most popular theme for first-time visitors (adults & kids alike) to the Louvre. Bestiary are imaginary creatures such as unicorns, griffins & dragons, but for the purpose of getting hunters to main highlights, it includes Egyptian sphinxes, Roman satyrs, Greek Centaurs. Covering Louvre Icons such as the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Nike of Samothrace, it also includes lesser-visited corners such as the Islamic Collection & the Near Eastern empty quarter for a relief from the crowds. KID-FRIENDLY

This theme is meant for the family who wants to steer clear of the crowds (thus skipping famous Louvre icons), keeping to quieter & more contained corners of the museum so you can focus on scouting out (& sometimes pose as!) your animals. Works included are Northern European painting, Medieval European as well as frilly French sculpture. Please don’t choose this theme if you’d like to see the Mona Lisa, Nike of Samothrace or Venus de Milo. KID-FRIENDLY (may be on hold, depending on whether the Louvre’s still renovating parts of the Richelieu wing)

THATLou goes ghoulish on this search for all things dark & macabre, from a decapitated Goliath to a medieval French skeleton. Don’t let’s leave out Roman Sarcophagi, Dutch Vanitas and Egyptian Mummies! This theme covers a good amount of ground, so it’s not for the faint of heart, but is also KID-FRIENDLY, as was reviewed here. What better way to get their attention than to go for the gore?!?

Prowl about after prancing putti, capturing an impish Eros with his arrow! The Venus de Milo is of course chief to this theme & included are wedding feasts by Italian, French and Northern European painters. It’s frequently customized for Hen and Stag parties, not to mention being good for destination wedding ice breakers, or the romantic newlyweds in Paris on a first anniversary. As it covers a good amount of ground, it’s hard on little legs.

Originally built to celebrate Bastille Day, France’s National Day, this theme focuses nearly exclusively on works by Frenchmen and keeps hunters off the beaten-track for the most part, to lesser-known corners of the museum. You’ll leave having learned about French faience (porcelain), tapestries, Frog kingmakers, monarchs – and their lovers, bien sûr! The only exception is the Mona Lisa – despite being by an Italian, she’s included as she is the face of Gaul Marketing!

A popular choice for corporate titans, organizing an office team-building hunt because it requires a fair amount of strategy. Not particularly family-friendly, as it not only covers extensive ground (thus the need to strategise), it also includes some scandalous French monarchs and their lovers, as well as a fair number of Roman Emperors who we all know could also be shockingly salacious!

Often chosen for Hen Parties and a great hunt for a ladies night out before score tallying over a drink, Ladies at the Louvre covers a good amount of ground, so leave your heels at home! This is a well-balanced hunt between the lesser known quarters as well as including some Louvre Lady Icons, such as Nike of Samothrace and the Mona Lisa. Not ideal for children/impatient hunters as there are long stretches where treasure isn’t found.

Not exactly kid-oriented (as you do have to fly about from wing to wing), this was the first theme we built for a Parisian Expat Blogger event which launched THATLou in 2012. Prancing putti in the sculpture collection, heavenly arc-angels in Italian painting, fluttering Flemish birdies in the Northern European collection, this theme gets you all over the place! (not suitable for short legs, as the Louvre is 8 miles if stretched out!)

Originally built for Thanksgiving, this delicious theme is good for adults who want to take their time on the hunt as it covers a broad swath of the museum, from Dionysus and his bacchanalian retinue to sumptuous 17th C Dutch still lifes, Greek urns to Egyptian funerary friezes sending their dead off with foooooood! As Pernod-Ricard attests, this also makes for a good corporate hunt before an office feast!

This hunt is reserved for school groups, having originally been built for the ENS (France’s equivalent to America’s MIT), although it’s also been used by Palo Alto HS Math trip to Europe as well as other school groups interested in making the connection between Art and Science. If you’re leading a school group, please contact us if this is of interest. This theme requires a longer lead time than others.

THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA, 1563 Paolo Caliari, aka VERONESE (Verona 1528 – Venice 1588) 16th Century Italian Painting, H6.77M x W9.9M (the biggest painting in the Louvre!) The Benedictine monks of St Giorgio Maggiore (the Palladian church on the Venetian island of the same name) commissioned Veronese to do this monumental work to decorate their new refectory. Hung at 2.5 meters high, the idea was to give the illusion of extended space. It’s huge — 6 meters by 10 – larger than many Parisian flats! One has to wonder how pure these monks were though, considering the sumptuousness of the 130 fellow diners in this panel. Moreover one wonders how abstinent they were, considering the subject: Christ’s first miracle, when he attended a wedding that was about to run dry, he turned the water to wine, making him everyone’s favorite wedding guest. Filled to the brim with delights, thirty bonus points if you count how many dogs are in this painting and another ten if two of your team get down on all fours and poses like those two dogs in the foreground. And yes this is the room with the highest foot-traffic (80% of 30K people a day!): The Mona Lisa is watching you! Is your pride for sale? GAME POINTS: 10

Prices don’t include museum entry tickets.

THATKid is geared to kids of varying ages (from 5 to 13) so one THATKid can be shared between two kids. THATKid is a collection of supplemental exercises for after your hunt. Some require the museum (finding 5 trees in 5 Flemish paintings all in the same room, for instance) while others can be played with later (Michelangelo connect-the-dots, Botticelli spot-the-difference, Mona Lisa sticker puzzle). The idea is to play with treasures kids have seen in the museum from a different angle, taking Louvre treasures with them to a restaurant, on a train ride or at your hotel! This includes an Art History glossary. Kid Packs are automatically offered in Luxe Hunts. THATKid costs 15€/1 pack, 28€/2 packs, 40€/3 packs

THATRue is a street hunt which we have in both the Latin Quarter (3 distinct routes between the Jardin du Luxembourg & St Michel on the Left Bank) and the Marais (3 distinct routes between Place des Vosges & the Pompidou on the Right Bank), all offered in both English and Spanish. One route takes 60 to 90 minutes & can be scheduled to do on your own after your museum hunt. We bring THATRue when we meet you for your museum hunt, but please note THATRue is not sold independently of our museum hunts (we have discontinued our postal/drop off service), unless you have two teams or more and hire us on a luxe-hunt basis. It’s often customized for Hen/Stag/Birthday parties, corporate hunts (the Dutch Embassy sent 70 a-hunting recently) or for school groups (it was originally built for 150 American high school teens who used all three Left Bank routes simultaneously). More THATRue info can be found here. THATRue costs 20€/1 module, 35€/2 modules, 45€/3 modules

THATRue Harry Potter

louvre scavenger hunt tour

THATRue Harry Potter is our newest street hunt, with one key difference: it’s inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series! Drawing links between Paris & the magical world of the Harry Potter books (& films) this THATRue takes hunters on a 2 hour wander, beginning in the Louvre’s Cour Carrée, and ending at Notre Dame Cathedral. As it starts in the neighbourhood of the Louvre, you’re welcome to do it directly after your THATLou, or to come back another day. Although the Harry Potter THATRue is designed to be inclusive, so that Potterheads and casual fans alike can play (with questions ranging in points and geared to different levels of fandom), please note that at least some basic knowledge of the series is required to be able to answer questions. More THATRue Info can be found here . THATRue Harry Potter costs 20€ (if sold as a supplement to a museum hunt)

Practical Info

Opening Hours Closed Tuesdays, open late Wednesday & Fridays (9 am – 9:45 pm, rooms start closing at 9:15), all other days open 9 am-6 pm (rooms start closing at 5:15)

Hours we recommend As many don’t know of the late hours on Wednesday & Fridays, the crowds are (relatively!) thinner those afternoon and evenings. With our flexible ticket service you could schedule an afternoon hunt, have dinner in the neighborhood for a museum break and return for a leisurely night wander, perhaps finding remaining treasure as a family, un-competitively! Weekends tend to be more crowded

You must buy your tickets online from the Louvre website directly, here , but please only buy them  after  your hunt has been confirmed (ideally buying them for 30 minutes after our meeting time as explained here ). Please note, tickets do sell out, and you need to either  print them , or have them available to scan on a  mobile , prior to meeting (taking a screenshot of the Louvre’s barcode is advised). Please note that these tickets allow you into the fastest security line (faster than the Museum Passes).

If you’re in Paris for a few days and plan to visit several museums, we’ve also heard wonderful things about the “Paris Museum Pass” which the government tourist board sells  here .

Please note that kids under 18 enter free , as do EU Citizens & residents under 26 as long as you bring photo ID. Most ticket booking websites (the Louvre included)  will not  refund your tickets if you accidentally buy them for the kids, so be sure to only buy the adult tickets you need.

The Family Travel Guy

Search this blog, meet randy | the family travel guy, louvre museum treasure hunt for kids with meet the locals for families, review: louvre treasure hunt for kids tour with meet the locals for families in paris, france.

The Louvre is a world famous museum located in Paris, France and is one of the largest and most visited museums in the world.  The Louvre is home to many iconic works of art, including the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace (Nike), Egyptian Antiquities and many other famous art and paintings.  If seeing all of that and more is on your list, there is no better way to see it all (or at least the highlights) than with a private guided tour.

louvre scavenger hunt tour

On our recent visit to Paris, we decided to book a private guided tour through the Louvre since it is so large and can be crowded and overwhelming.  Instead of booking a regular tour, we decided to book a private tour, but with a twist.

louvre scavenger hunt tour

The tour was a treasure hunt through the Louvre with a guide from Meet the Locals for Families.  I had originally booked a similar tour with Context Travel, but unfortunately the dates did not work out and I had to scramble to find another tour guide company.  Meet the Locals, for Families offers private tours in just Paris and London and is geared towards kids, which was a perfect fit for us.

Louvre Treasure Hunt - Kids Tour

The Louvre treasure hunt for kids tour was an amazing experience and we were able to see all of the highlights of the museum in two hours.  We never felt rushed and all of the history and interesting facts about what we were observing were explained in a way that the kids would understand and appreciate.

Our kids had such a fun time solving a mystery at the famous Louvre Palace and the private Louvre Family Tour was great for even our five year old. The awesome activity booklets our kids recieved at the start of the tour kept them engaged and interested in everything they were learning about.

What’s Included on this tour:

  • A kid-friendly certified guide for 2 hours
  • Entrance tickets to the Louvre museum
  • An activity booklet for each child tailor-made by age range (from 3 to 6 or 7 to 12 years old)
  • A Louvre for Kids tour designed to be fun and informative at the same time!

Itinerary Overview

On our Louvre Treasure Hunt with Meet the Locals for Families, we met our guide Nathalie outside the Louvre and proceeded to get into line to get into the Louvre.  Once inside, Nathalie ensured we ready to begin our tour, which included grabbing water, bathroom break and an explanation of the activity booklets for each kid.

In every step of their progress in solving the enigma in their activity booklet, the kids observational skills will help them advance!  With each answer, they will win a clue written on a card and once the whole set of cards has been collected, all the clues put together will lead them to solve the puzzle at the end of the tour.

Overall Impression

You’ve probably heard a million times that the Louvre is huge.  It is the second largest museum in the world (after the Hermitage in St. Petersburg).  To visit the whole museum and see everything there, you would need four whole days and not spend more than 10 seconds in front of each work of art!  That's just how big it is, but during our tour it felt manageable seeing the main highlights in two hours and still having enough time to see other art and learn all about the things we were seeing there.

The Louvre in and of itself is a destination to see as it was originally a royal palace, but has been a museum since 1793.  Today, it is a symbol of French culture and a major tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year from around the world.

If you're planning a visit to the Louvre, I can't recommend highly enough how important it is to have a guide, especially a private guide.  Our guide Natahlie was so good with the kids and explained everything in great detail so they understood what they were seeing.  She has so much knowledge and is an expert and knew her way around the Louvre, even pushing her way to front of crowds so the kids get in the front and see everything in detail.

louvre scavenger hunt tour

And if you still need convincing - more than likely you've already traveled halfway around the world to get to Paris and unless you're planning on coming back soon and visiting the Louvre multiple times, you will want to see the main highlights of the museum on your first visit.  Having a private guide will make your visit to the Louvre so much more pleasant and interesting, especially for kids.  You don't want to leave the Louvre feeling like you missed out on anything and saw the main highlights of each area of the museum.

Louvre Quest: For Families with Teens - Paris Muse Tour of Paris

Tour Description

This Louvre tour is a series of quests—for power, immortality, movement and love. You’ll explore four great civilizations (Ancient Near East, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and Modern Europe) and discover the driving forces behind their imposing palaces, secret tombs, and enduring symbols. We’ll approach them not like museum artifacts, but as living evidence of universal human adventures. Along the way, you’ll meet mighty kings, crafty goddesses, and mysterious soothsayers, each with their own captivating stories to tell.

Quest is an entirely new way to experience the Louvre. It is an interactive game designed to test your mettle and sharpen your skills. In each civilization, you’ll take on a series of challenges, introduced by an archetypal character from that era. Each challenge must be completed before you can move on to the next stage of your quest. As players progress, they earn a series of cards, featuring masterworks examined in depth on your tour. As in any great heroic adventure, you’ll rely on the wisdom and experience of a mentor: your personal Paris Muse educator, who will guide you on each stage of your journey.

Reserve today, and become the hero of your own quest for adventure at the Louvre.

Your guide will bring your timed and dated tickets, and your family will use a priority access line to enter the museum.  There will be a wait for the required security screening, however.

Our cancellation and change policies are  here .

Tour Teaser: Why is Mona Lisa such a  celebrity ?

Accessibility

Our guides are trained to lead wheelchair-accessible tours that use the Louvre’s many ramps and elevators.

We can assist you in borrowing a free wheelchair on site, with your ID. We recommend this to visitors with limited mobility, since navigating the Louvre can be physically demanding. Please specify your mobility needs when booking online.

Children in strollers are welcome at the Louvre. Strollers larger than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm when folded cannot be checked during your visit. Frontal baby carriers and slings are allowed, but back carriers with metal frames are not.

Tour Highlights

Hey mum— Louvre Quest was Just the Best

Usually when I take my kids to a museum after a short while the whines emerge – “Can we go now? This is boring.” The Paris Muse Louvre Quest had my kids racing the halls. With bite sized chunks and a storyline to rival a Hollywood movie, the littles were constantly intrigued. From Egyptian kings and the deception of their arch enemies to tales of jealousy with the most beautiful girl in the world, this tour gives museum visits a complete makeover.

Kristina Foster Sydney, Australia

Quest Guide was Wonderful

Louvre Quest was recommended to us by a friend, and we certainly strongly recommend it as well. Communication from the office was excellent and when I asked for a wheelchair, they were quick to reply with “no problem.” Our tour guide Mallory was wonderful and the tour was excellent thanks to her guidance and good humour. She went above and beyond to make our Louvre experience one we will never forget. If we ever get back to the Louvre (and I hope we do), we will definitely use Paris Muses services again.

Maggie Reeves Orinda, Californ

Immediately Engaged by Quest

Our Louvre Quest tour was the highlight of our family trip to Paris! We wanted to be sure our two teenagers had a positive experience visiting the museum so we thought we would take advantage of an expert guide who caters to this age group. Laura was that and so much more! Both our son & daughter were immediately engaged in the tour and were captivated by the interactive Quest challenges. The educational materials and souvenir cards were top-notch and made for lasting keepsakes. Laura really made the museum come to life for both the kids as well as Mom & Dad! We spoke of both Laura and the tour highlights though out the remainder of our trip. THANK YOU Paris Muse!

Flora Louvre guide giving a treasure hunt tour in the Louvre with a mother and a 8 year old girl

Our Treasure Hunt in the Louvre - Age 6 to 12

Louvre treasure hunt.

We offer treasure hunt games printed on a booklet with kid-friendly qualified guides.

Suited for little ones 3 to 6 and children 7 to 12, designed to have a fun meaningful moment while learning about Art History, Da Vinci & Mona Lisa, Greco-Roman art, Ancient Egypt, French History, Napoleon and many more !

Treasure Hunt in the Louvre

Carrying a printed colorful booklet, the children play an educational game in the Louvre.

They follow the steps of the archaeologists, solving mysteries in the Louvre by discovering the famous masterpieces and observing the details hidden in the best Art pieces exposed in the museum.

Their answers will be the clues to lead them to find more clues.

The last step is finding the Treasure : Many small gifts and souvenirs from Paris to remember positively their visit of the Louvre.

The accredited tour guide will help the family navigate the museum, answer the children questions about Art and History and will orient them to find more clues.

The parents can enjoy the remarkable stories behind each Masterpiece as you navigate comfortably the museum with their children.

Suited for all Children 3 to 6 and 7 to 12 | Screen Free

This guided tour is best for families with children aged between 3 to 12.

We have two versions of the game. The trail is the same in case we have a family with children from different ages. But the games are different to adapt their ages.

Our guides are perfectly capable of guiding a family with both ages : 3 to 6 and 7 to 12.

No iPads / No Phones / No electronics

We believe that children learn better with direct human interaction. We think it is better to learn how to navigate a museum using a printed map or an individual printed booklet, in the company of their expert tour guide, without exposing their fragile eyes to screens or using other electronic distractions.

All the annexed images are printed. The children fill the answers directly on the booklets using markers and pens provided by the private tour guide.

Age 3 to 6 : Activity Booklet + Puzzles . Writing or reading are not required. The games are more manual. Puzzle, Building blocks,  stickers, seek and find...

Age 7 to 12 : Treasure hunt booklet + Clue Cards. Writing and reading are required. The games are more cerebral.

You are welcome to send us your questions directly by email or use the contact form below.

About the Tour Guide License

The treasure hunt for kids in the Louvre is a complete guided tour service.

The kid-friendly guide is a professional state-licensed Guide-Conférencier. The state-license of the tour guide is a special professional card, a permit to guide in the Louvre, obtained after passing an oral and a written exam about Western Art History in front of an official jury in Paris, supervised by the Ministry of Culture to guarantee the accuracy of the information and the high quality of the tour for the visitors of France.

After years of studies at the Sorbonne university, with a training and a documented proof of at least 900 hours of work experience as a guide, the tour guide can ask to get his permit.

The card is a right to speak, a permit to guide a group in the Louvre, and for your family, this means that the guide can make you skip the line with your regular tickets.

* You can skip the waiting line at the entrance at any museum of Paris, including the Louvre, with a certified tour guide.

We are a human-sized team of kid-friendly, experienced with the family tour and we are all certified tour guides.

We love working with kids because we are also parents, teachers, museum educators and we collaborated to design and to organize meaningful activities for the children visiting Paris.

We share the same passion for Art History and the same values to provide quality service to make everything easier for the parents on their trip to Paris.

We aim to help children learn in a fun pedagogical way. With us, children and parents will explore effortlessly many Art pieces in a big international Museum, depicting  sumptuously a universal shared History from different epochs and civilizations.

The team is composed of independent tour guides, each one of us is also animating children and adolescents cultural workshops in France with the Ministry of Culture.

Some of us offer French classes, philosophy classes for teenagers, participate with artistic workshops, Renaissance history lessons, animate History and Memorial guided tours for the Public Schools of Paris.

Flora's booklets

Flora designed the colorful booklet after a decade of experience guiding at the Louvre Museum, almost everyday.

The booklet will help the children solve riddles and learn about the most important teachings from each Masterpiece.

The booklets are different depending on the ages, they are printed

 - on 17 pages for the little ones (3 to 6)

-  on 33 pages for children 7 - 12.

Each page has a small enigma, a question, a mystery to solve. At the end, the answers will help find the treasure.

The guide will of course help the children decipher and solve the enigmas.

Each child will have his own booklet, his own marker pen to fill the answers and can work with his siblings.

The guide will let you have some time and space to answer the question on your own, then she helps you get the right answer. She will fill you in with more stories and make the transition to the next piece.

The Treasure is made of small gifts for the children, adapted to their individual ages. They will discover the surprise at the end of the tour when they get the final clues and they solve the last riddle.

The gifts and souvenirs are picked by Flora before each tour : everything is from Paris and it will relate to their Paris trip and to the Louvre tour.

Why should you offer the tour for your family, discover the masterpieces.

The treasure hunt guided tour service has the same itinerary as my Louvre Highlights guided tour.

There is difference in the pace and in the stories - everything is adapted for families with young children.

The private guide will take more time to answer the kids questions and to explain the masterpieces differently.

Meaningful Gift

This is a very special moment for the kids to share with their Parents in the most amazing rooms of the Louvre.

The guide will make the tour memorable  and more engaging for Children using kid-friendly games and anecdotes and smoother transitions between the Masterpieces.

Learning with Fun

Following our special training as Guide Lecturers, we will transmit our key messages and our basics to start learning Art History.

We will share our passion and knowledge to give children the ambition to learn more about Art History in the future and the desire to visit a "Big Museum"!

About Flora : Guide-Interpreter in the Louvre

I am Flora. I am 33. I am a state-licensed tour guide.

I am French, born and raised in Paris historical center.

I majored in Art and History from Sorbonne Paris 3.

I must confess that my mother was a tour guide for more than two decades so I grew up learning about Paris, culture, art, history and museums since a very young age.

As a daughter of a tour guide, a mother of two girls and a professional tour guide, my passion is to transmit my knowledge of my city to children and to offer a memorable moment for your family in Paris.

I couldn't think of a better way of living my life than organizing guided tours in Paris for my visitors. I started giving tours of Paris at a very young age for English speaking visitors.

I truly believe that, today, it is important to transmit this knowledge, through story telling and fun games, to teach pupils why Art is vital, how to appreciate Art and learn why History is amazing.

I am ready to help you by email or by phone.

Best regards,

About Emma : Teacher at the Sorbonne

I have worked as an educator and researcher at various cultural organisations and museums in France, Ireland and the UK - including the Louvre, Orleans House Gallery and the Arts Service of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, where I managed a dynamic team of educators and designed educational programs for a wide range of age groups and backgrounds.

I currently lectures in Museum Studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle.

Although work and studies have taken me away from Paris for brief stints, I am always drawn back to this city.

I hold qualifications in Art History from University College Dublin and La Sorbonne.

My masters research focused on how Egyptian themes were used as propaganda in the public art of Napoleonic Paris.

I have a deep passion for storytelling and so stories are central to the way I talk about history. One thing my research highlighted is that art, architecture and historical events don’t happen in a vacuum and it is only when you start looking at them in context that they really come to life.

Kind regards,

About Mélanie : Guide from Ecole du Louvre

We collaborate with Mélanie, a seasoned Parisian tour guide with a Master's degree in History of Art from the esteemed Grande École du Louvre.

Her deep comprehension of history is expertly woven into her narratives, making them as educational as they are captivating.

Young ones are never left out on Mélanie's tours!

Her kindness and vivid narratives, full of amazing stories from Greco-Roman mythology and the legends of the French and American world, keep children entertained and focused throughout the Family tour.

She can also facilitate our treasure hunt throughout the Louvre, a favorite among children.

Apart from her work as a guide, Mélanie is an accomplished flutist who plays in several amateur symphonic orchestras in Paris. HerJazz band often performs at family events, adding another facet to her engagement with her city's cultural scene.

About Iuliana : Guide from Sorbonne

We collaborate with Iuliana, a kid-frienldy tour guide.

Besides from being an excellent tour guide, Iuliana gives tours to kids from the National Schools coming to visit Paris. She brings school groups (pupils from 6 to 12) to the Louvre and Versailles to teach them about Art History and France History.

She began her career at two of France's leading universities, Université Panthéon Sorbonne and Université Paris X Nanterre. At Sorbonne, she studied the history of art and archaeology, before pursuing her professional training and official license as a guide-conférencier. Her academic grounding provides a firm foundation for her tours, offering clients rich insights into the art, architecture, and history of Paris.

The cornerstone of Iuliana's tours lies in her deep passion for the storied city of Paris, its art, history, culture, and the vibrant lives of its people.

Her storytelling style is deeply felt, making her tours an immersive and enriching experience that transports her guests right into the heart of the Louvre and the amazing human beings who made the Louvre what it is today.

With her comprehensive knowledge and flair for storytelling, she is able to simplify complex histories and facts, making history come alive. This makes her an especially good option for families with young children.

If you’re visiting the louvre with kids and want a fun and educational experience, i’ve got you covered.

No trip to Paris is complete without visiting the Louvre. But it’s easy to get completely overwhelmed, especially if you’re visiting the Louvre with kids. That’s why the best way to experience the largest museum in the world is by going on a specific Louvre tour for kids.

Unlock the secrets to visiting the Louvre with kids on a fun tour for your family's next cultural excursion in Paris.

Besides the fact that it would take you more than an entire week to explore Paris’ most famous museum, there’s also this little detail about visiting the Louvre with kids…because every parent knows that kids and museums don’t always go hand in hand.

But what if they could explore the Louvre through a scavenger hunt? Or see the sights of the museum with a guide who actually caters to kids.

So whether you’re experiencing the Louvre for the first or fiftieth time, if you’ll be in Paris with children you should—without a doubt—find a kid-friendly Louvre tour to help make your time around the museum more entertaining, more interesting, and more engaging for everyone.

The guides for these Louvre tours for kids are not only experts with the different wings and navigating in, around, and within the museum, but they make it fun to learn about the different famous and not-so-famous art pieces, too.

Good To Know Before You Visit the Louvre

Here are some quick things to know before you visit the Louvre with your family.

Good to Know

The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays, so plan your trip to Paris accordingly!

CLOSED. The Louvre is closed every Tuesday, so make sure you keep that into consideration when you’re planning your schedule.

It Gets HOT! When we were there in December it was very hot inside. Make sure you wear layers!

Skip the Stroller. Yes, you can technically bring them, but it gets super crowded (even when it’s not a holiday) and baby-wearing will be a better option. We also saw the line for the elevator and, yikes. The wait was very long. Babywearing is not allowed on the back, only the front. You can also borrow/rent a baby carrier from the info desk under the pyramid .

Small Bags Only If you’re bringing a big, travel backpack make sure you check it in one of their lockers.

Get a Passport. Head to the info desk under the pyramid and ask for a “Louvre Passport.” Kids can use it throughout the museum; it’s like their very own Louvre scavenger hunt.

Our Experience with a Kid-Friendly Tour of the Louvre

the louvre with kids - three kids and a dad inside the louvre

We visited Paris with all three of our kids (ages 9, 7, and 5 at the time) during Christmas break. It was a very busy time to be in Paris, and I knew we’d be totally in over our heads walking around the Louvre with kids without a guide.

My husband and I have both been to the Louvre before, but this was their first time and I wanted them to see the highlights in a way that would interest them, like with a Louvre scavenger hunt or something fun like that.

Finding fun Louvre tours for kids was the answer to all of my needs. The only problem was picking a kid-friendly tour of the Louvre.

We ended up booking a Private “ Clues” Family Tour of the Louvre ” with Paris Muse.

a little boy inside the louvre for a family tour

For our family of five, we paid $375 (although I believe they recently upped their prices), and we had a specific timed entrance.

I was thankful for our guide right off the bat; she knew the Louvre like the back of her hand, starting with a different entrance that got us through the line faster. There was an exhibit we were going to see that was randomly closed, but she quickly rerouted us without even hesitating.

The kids LOVED it.

They were asking questions and totally engaging with what she was telling them about the different pieces we looked at. And even though it was one of the busiest museums we’ve ever been in, she managed to find sections in front of major pieces of art where it was just us so we weren’t getting pushed and smushed.

three kids looking at a piece of art at the louvre

Pick This Up Before Your Trip

We grabbed this fun Louvre scavenger hunt book for the kids before our trip and they loved it as we ventured around Paris. There’s a section in it for the Louvre, so we asked our tour guide if she could point us in the right direction for the exhibits. All three kids liked using this during our trip to Paris.

My Top 3 Picks: Louvre tours for kids

three children on a family louvre tour

I’m not going to lie: Louvre tours for kids are not very cheap. And while my jaw dropped at the price for most of them, I do realize you get what you pay for; sometimes you need to pay more for great service.

These all have fantastic reviews from families, and they all seem like really fun and educational tours of the Louvre specifically for kids. The bright side is that they do include the price of your museum ticket.

Here are three other kid-friendly Louvre tours that I was debating between.

  • Kids & Family Private Louvre Tour . Pick from 1.5, 2, or 3-hour tours. Has more than 240 5-star reviews ☞ check here for prices
  • Louvre Treasure Hunt for Families and Kids . Kids get an age-appropriate activity booklet and a Louvre scavenger hunt kit. Two-hour tour; five-star reviews. ☞ check here for prices
  • Louvre x Families – The Civilizations’ Quest . Interactive and entertaining for the whole family. Three-hour tour; five-star reviews. She books up FAST! ☞ check here for prices

More Awesome Tours of the Louvre for kids

a girl working on a louvre scavenger hunt

While the following tours didn’t make my top list, they were still on my list, so I wanted to share them with you in case they’re right for your family:

  • Louvre Tour for Teens . Games and puzzles to play; 2.5-hour tour; specifically for families with teens. ☞ check here for prices
  • Family Tour with Da Vinci Treasure Hunt . Da Vinci-themed treasure hunt; two-hour tour. ☞ check here for prices
  • Private Louvre Museum Tour for Kids & Families . Immersive and engaging with games and activities. Two-hour tour; five-star reviews. ☞ check here for prices

Where to Stay in Paris with a Family

louvre scavenger hunt tour

If you need a place to stay in Paris with your family here are a few that I’ve personally stayed at and recommend.

  • Hotel Caumartin Opera – Astotel . I stayed here with my two daughters and it was perfect. The area was safe, the hotel was clean, and it wasn’t very expensive. We loved the location.
  • Hotel Palm – Astotel. I stayed here with a friend of mine. It was walkable from the train station and easy access to get anywhere in the city. I’d definitely stay here with a family.
  • Center Parcs Villages Nature . This one is outside the city, but fantastic if you have a family, and if you plan on going to Disneyland Paris while you’re in Paris. You can read my review here .
  • MEININGER Hotel Paris Porte de Vincennes . We’ve stayed in several Meiningers around Europe and it’s always a top pick for our family. They’re clean and fun, and all five of us can stay in one room. I have no doubt that this one would be just as great.
  • YOOMA Urban Lodge . I’ve heard fantastic things about YOOMA Urban Lodge, but it’s always booked when we go to Paris. They have rooms for large families, which is awesome.

Find a Place to Stay in Paris

If you’re going to the Louvre with kids soon, I’d love to hear what tour you picked and how it went. And if you’re looking for more info about Paris, check out my other posts here .

Louvre Treasure Hunt, Paris

Treasure hunt in paris with that muse.

A Louvre Treasure Hunt is a fun way to visit the Louvre. For two hours or so, solve riddles and look for the museum’s hidden treasures. At the end of the hunt, you can stay in the Louvre as much as you like to visit the Mona Lisa , the Venus of Milo, the Regent Diamond , or the sections that interest you most.

This Louvre Treasure Hunt is proposed by THATMuse , a young startup that organizes different treasure hunts in Paris. These Paris treasure hunts are perfect for families, groups of friends and also can be proposed as team building activities in Paris.

So how this treasure hunt works? Keep or reading…

TIP: Is the weather in Paris too nice to stay indoors? Check out this self-guided Treasure Hunt in the Luxembourg Gardens or this self-guided Scavenger Hunt in the Tuileries Garden .

Plan your visit to the Louvre Museum

Visit the Louvre

The Louvre Museum is one of the top sights to visit in Paris. We recommend visiting the Louvre Museum in the following Paris itineraries:

  • 2 days in Paris itinerary
  • 3 days in Paris itinerary
  • 4 days in Paris itinerary
  • 5 days in Paris itinerary
  • 6 days in Paris itinerary
  • 7 days in Paris itinerary

Principle and Rules

The Louvre Treasure Hunt principle is very simple:

Teams (2 to 4 people) receive a list of Louvre treasures, grouped under a specific topic that they need to find within a given amount of time (90 mins to 2 hrs). For each artwork found, teams have to take a selfie in front of it to score points.

Hunters need to read the art treasure descriptions because additional THATLou bonus challenges are embedded in these descriptions. This makes the Louvre treasure hunt fun and also educational.

In the end, the team that scores more points wins the competition.

Of course, the hunt comes with some basic rules that everybody needs to respect with no exception. These are the main ones:

»  Teams’ only tools on this hunt are the treasures of the Louvre list, a Louvre museum map (hard copy), and (only) one camera per group to take the pictures.

»  Teams must stay together at all times.

»  No running inside the museum.

»  No external help like the internet, GPS, or guidebooks. Louvre staff or other visitors cannot help either.

We met Sarah (THATMuse) in front of the Louvre Pyramid, in the 1st Arrondissement of Paris.

Louvre Treasure Hunt – Our Experience

We did this hunt a couple of years ago, and it was a fun experience that we recommend. It was during the week and in the morning.

For this treasure hunt, World in Paris would compete with Kartik, Gayatri, and Swara, a family from Tennessee visiting Paris for 3 days. While World in Paris is a Louvre frequent visitor, this was their first trip to Paris and the Louvre.

louvre scavenger hunt tour

The meeting point was in front of the Louvre Pyramid, and we all had bought our Louvre skip-the-line tickets online in advance (not included in the treasure hunt). After the presentations and a short introduction by our host Sarah, we all entered the museum through the Glass Pyramid for the briefing and the Louvre Treasure Hunt.

When the hunt started, our opponents went straight to the Richelieu Wing. We sat for 5 minutes to study the treasures list and the Louvre museum map. We felt WE NEEDED A STRATEGY.

In the end, we decided to concentrate our efforts on the Louvre wing with more treasures to hunt and score the maximum possible points on one artwork (picture + bonus questions) before moving to the next one.

After countless visits to the Louvre, we felt like Louvre pros, but our friends did not look scared of us. Who was going to win the hunt?

During the first hour, we moved smoothly through the different Louvre halls, and the first artworks (the ones with more points to score) were easy to find. However, some of the bonus questions were difficult, and we did not find all the clues on the information panels. We should have read THATMuse’s blog before the Louvre treasure hunt; it had many hints for the hunt!

louvre scavenger hunt tour

The next hour was less effective. We were tired (too many Louvre halls, the museum is huge!), and the first frictions between us appeared:

– Let’s go left!

– No, it’s right. Look at the map!

– I know the Louvre better than you, I say left!

I should have eaten a second pain au chocolat before starting the hunt… 🙁

louvre scavenger hunt tour

Two hours later, we arrived at the meeting point with a good amount of artwork checked. The final count of points started:

World in Paris 530 points

Tennessee family 531 points

Damn, we have lost!!

Apparently, their strategy worked better than ours, and the victory was for them. Congratulations, well done!

Louvre Treasure Hunt – Info & Tips

»  These Louvre Treasure hunts are organized by THATMuse. You can check all their proposals (they have other treasure hunts in Paris and London) and book your Louvre Treasure hunt on their website

» The price for the Louvre Classic Hunt (THATLou) is 25€ per person. This price does not include the Louvre entrance fee.

» This is a great way to see the Louvre museum for kids. But THATLou is flexible and fun for all ages, with or without kids.

» THATLou is offered in English, French, and Spanish. The same languages are proposed for THATRue, the treasure hunt in the streets of Paris.

» When you book your THATLou, you can choose a subject. There are subjects such as beauty + the bestiary, love hunt, corporate hunt, and many more.

» There is no Louvre dress code, but we recommend wearing comfortable shoes; you are going to walk a lot! We also suggest bringing your own water and a couple of snacks.

Paris Treasure Hunt with THATLou – Final Thoughts

We had a blast! THATMuse’s Louvre Treasure hunt was an original and fun way to discover (or re-discover!) the Louvre. Besides, we learned many interesting things about the treasures while playing, so the hunt was also educational and interactive.

This Louvre Treasure Hunt is a fun activity to do in Paris with kids . It is also a great activity for adults without kids, and we are happy to recommend this treasure hunt in Paris to our friends.

  • SamuelLA9 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Buyer beware! Do not book with this company! Do not trust this tour!! We paid $193 for two and arrived at the given location 15 minutes before the meeting time. The tour was to be 15 minutes later, at 11:30. We waited 15 more minutes after the tour was to have begun, until we finally gave up at 11:45. There were other people also waiting. No tour guide ever appeared. When I called to company to get a refund I was told that the guide was there before the tour time and the tour did happen. Absolutely a lie! Do not book with this company as they are obviously unreliable and deceitful. We did not receive a refund. Buyer beware!! Read more Written May 2, 2024

We waited at the Louvre for 1.5 h , nobody came to collect us and after making few phone calls to the hotel and the company they managed to give us instructions for a new meeting point. We ended doing our tour 2 h after the original time. Very dissapointed as we had to cancel our adternoon visits. Poor service and not professional staff at all. Read more Written April 7, 2024
  • jillr824 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Do not book! We booked this tour to go to the summit as we already had tickets to go to the 2nd floor and were told this was the only way to go to the summit. Upon arrival to the Eiffel tower the sign said the summit was closed. The tour guide said not to worry they do mot update signs in Paris and we would be able to go up. He said do not worry if you cannot go up the tour company will refund the tickets. Once on the Eiffel tower he showed us a few things and said the summit will open in 30 mins and left. The summit never opened he just not want to deal with angry people. There was no "tour" per se. We could have used our original tickets that were $30 Euro instead of paying $250 for this nonsense. We asked for a refund and they gave us $35 dollars back. Do not book this tour! Read more Written April 7, 2024

  • Batty0101 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Eiffel tower tour We booked the tour before we went to Paris as the tickets sell out quickly to the summit. We booked the tour then added the extra to enable us to go to the summit. I booked the tour via trip advisor, it was straightforward and when I booked there was limited time slots available so I'm glad I did book when I did as otherwise we wouldn't have been able to go up the tower. The instructions on how to meet our guide were clear and easy to follow. Our guide was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. She had a light, bubbly and light hearted way of showing us the area around the tower and then in the tower itself. The tower itself doesn't disappoint. The views from the 2nd floor are amazing and if you are adventurous and brave enough to go to the summit, the views do not disappoint. Read more Written March 29, 2024

The guide Francisco knew nothing, he was late and then left us for an hour on the first floor. The ticket only actually costs 29.40 Euros. Don’t waste your money and pay over £75 per person when you can arrange yourself and get a far better experience. I contacted Viator for a refund and they have refused, not giving any reason, just a flat No. This is a paragraph they have used in all of their emails: ‘As part of this review, we investigated all materials and pertinent information including (but not limited to) the product details on the tour page, your ticket, and any communications regarding this booking. Based on all available information, we regret to inform you that we are unable to issue a refund for this booking.’ If you weren’t aware Viator are owned by Trip Advisor.
