NOFX are kicking off their farewell with the announcement of 12 of the forthcoming 40 shows, with the tour scheduled to begin this spring and wrap in 2024 after the band has said their proper goodbyes.

NOFX Announce 2024 North American Tour, Including Final Shows Ever

They will finish their 40-year career with three hometown Los Angeles shows

NOFX - Press

NOFX have announced the final shows of their farewell tour, which will see them sign off for good after a 40-year career.

The Los Angeles punk band have added 15 additional dates to their ‘40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs Per Day Tour’, and they will end the run with three hometown shows in October 2024.

Tickets for the new shows are on sale here .

Speaking about playing their final dates, frontman Fat Mike has said: “We’ve played over 2000 shows in 33 countries, in more than 300 cities and darn it…we’re a bit tired. One thing I know in my heart…this is going to be the most emotional, heartbreaking, greatest tour of our career. I’ve never been so excited and at the same time terrified. Mostly excited…”

Last September, Fat Mike told fans on Instagram that  the band would be breaking up in 2023, having formed in 1983. “It’s been an amazing run,” he wrote at the time.

In January, the band announced a string of US and UK dates , which took place between April and September.

“This is not a final tour like  Mötley Crüe  or  Black Sabbath ,” Fat Mike said in a statement at the time. “These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”

Last December, NOFX guitarist  Eric Melvin suggested the band could still release new music after retiring from touring . “He still wants to record and release records as NOFX,” Melvin said, referring to Fat Mike. “So we’ll see how that works because they kind of go hand-in-hand, but they don’t have to.”

NOFX released their latest album  ‘Double Album’  in December 2022, while Fat Mike launched a new band called  Codefendants , which he described as a “genre fluid musical collective — a cross between hip hop, new-wave, flamenco, and the Beatles”.

NOFX Announces Final Tour: 40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs Per Day

Influential punk band NOFX is known as one of the world’s most controversial and significant punk bands of their time. They are no strangers to pushing boundaries at their live shows, and their final tour will be no different. The dream team of NOFX and Cameron Collins from Brew Ha Ha Productions and the Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival has reunited to curate the first wave of announced tour dates in the United States.

The forty-cities-around-the-world tour begins on April 22 in Austin, Texas and concludes in October 2024 in Los Angeles, California. NOFX will perform forty songs a night, including full albums and rarities, plus they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.

NOFX frontman Fat Mike says: "This is not a final tour like MÖTLEY CRÜE or BLACK SABBATH … These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done."

NOFX final tour commences with a massive 21+ punk rock and beer weekend camping festival at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas on April 22 and April 23 that will feature special guests PENNYWISE , CIRCLE JERKS , FACE TO FACE , RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS , CODEFENDANTS , GET DEAD , BAD COP BAD COP , THE BOMBPOPS , PEARS , PIÑATA PROTEST and more.

Tickets for these shows go on sale this Friday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. PT at www.PunkInDrublicFest.com. Options include single day, the Bro Bundle, VIP, and more including a digital download of each show with ticket purchase.

Initial tour dates are as follows, with more European dates, venues, and lineups to be announced soon:

April 22- 23 - Austin, TX – Carson Creek Ranch (campout) May 13 - San Diego, CA May 19-20 - Barcelona, Spain June 02 - Linz, Austria June 24-25 - Columbus, OH (campout) July 22- 23: Tacoma, WA September 16 - San Francisco, CA September 30 - St. Petersburg, FL

NOFX formed in Los Angeles back in 1983. They were forged in the same fiery furnaces of the L.A. hardcore scene that gave us BAD RELIGION , SUICIDAL TENDENCIES , THE GERMS and DESCENDENTS . NOFX sharpened their teeth in that tumultuous talent pool until they joined forces with Epitaph Records in 1989 and went on to release a string of crucial skate-punk albums. Their first major breakthrough came in the form of 1990's "Ribbed" , still a fan favorite, they then followed up with now-classics "White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean" and "Punk In Drublic" , the latter selling well over a million copies. That was a wildly successful decade for NOFX as the band popularized the Warped Tour and was the flagship band for the skate/surf/snow culture of the 1990s.

NOFX 's career-long ban on doing the mainstream press and media was lifted as they sought to actively share their dissent for the Bush administration and speak out against the invasion of Iraq. And once the floodgates were open, NOFX and their "Rock Against Bush" movement were everywhere: Newsweek , Rolling Stone , New York Times , Howard Stern and network television. All that high-profile interest and hype was reflected in the success of their 2003 record "The War On Errorism" , which was the No. 1 independent record in the country at the time if its release and topped Billboard 's indie chart.

The outspoken punk legend on why he’s fed up of touring, why new LP Double Album is not one of NOFX’s best, and why trying to do things differently after 40 years is what keeps you punk as fuck.

NOFX

Fat Mike doesn’t give a fuck today. When the NOFX leader and bassist joins our Zoom call, his manager’s operating his laptop and he’s got his bare feet up on the table, right in front of the camera. When he leans forward to talk, he divulges he recently moved to Las Vegas. When we ask why, he flippantly quips: “Addiction to drugs, gambling and sex.”

  • READ MORE: Meet Abraxas, the duo marrying Latin rhythms with terrifically twangy guitar

Mike’s mood seemingly reflects how he feels about the album he’s promoting. During our conversation, he says of the brand new Double Album – a back-to-basics sequel to last year’s progressive and lauded Single Album  – “I wouldn’t pick it as one of our better albums”. Turns out, he’d much rather talk about the trilogy of albums he’s making next, why NOFX is retiring from touring and, umm, sex.

You’ve said before, “I don’t think there are any really good double albums out there.” So why have you made a double album?

“I like a challenge. That’s why I wrote The Decline  [NOFX’s 1999 one-track punk rock opera]: a seventeen-minute punk song that’s extremely progressive, with an orchestra [the band recorded a live version with a full orchestra in 1999]. I’ve always got to push myself, and making a double album was harder than I thought.”

“I fell into the same trap other bands do: you think that, because you’re making a double album, you should go in more directions with the songwriting. Then you end up with some mediocrity. When you do a thirty-minute album, you record 18 songs and then you knock it down to 12. That didn’t happen with this album. There’s too much material and you want a well-rounded double album, which is so hard to make. The Beatles did it [with The White Album] but they have a bunch of shitty songs. Revolution 9  is hard to listen to. The White Album should have been a single album.”

So have you made a better double album than the Beatles?

“[Laughs] I didn’t say that. I’d rather listen to their double album than my double album, but I’m really glad that Single Album and Double Album came out with a year in the middle. Single Album , I’m so happy with that one. It was a great single album and Double Album is a great second half to that, but I wouldn’t pick it as one of our better albums.”

NOFX - Double Album

“I think it’s our funniest album and I think the basslines are my best basslines ever, but it’s more formulaic. It’s a record that will please NOFX fans a lot. I was writing different songs: ‘This doesn’t sound like any other song on the album, nor does this one.’ So it just happened that all the fast, funny songs [ended up on Double Album ]. Any one of these songs would have fucked up Single Album .”

Was Single Album  being a darker, personal album inspired by the pandemic?

“No, all of these songs were recorded six years ago. I take my time. I want the song to be perfect when it’s done. And the reason it took so long for Single Album to come out is because I wanted to finish the double album. And, although I did, I wasn’t happy with sides three and four. It had been four years, so I just said, ‘Fuck it, we’ll put out the first one.’ I spent, like, a year making Double Album  better. I went in and recorded 24 songs with Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore, and it just took a lot longer than I thought.”

What guitars and basses were used on Double Album ?

“I always use the same stuff. I have a ’72 [ Gibson ] SG and a [ Fender ] Jazzmaster, but I don’t know what year it is. I use a [Fender] P-Bass. The Jazzmaster is a big part of that NOFX sound because it’s good for playing clean chords. A Les Paul is a good rock ’n’ roll guitar but it doesn’t have the clarity of an SG or Jazzmaster. When you’re playing complicated chords, you need a guitar that is very clear. AC/DC , it would weaken that band if they used Les Pauls , but Slash sounds great on a Les Paul. Les Pauls are fine but they’re not specific.”

NOFX

NOFX are going to embark on your final tour in 2023. Will the fact that you’ll only be playing these songs for a few months mean your relationship with this album will be different to the older ones?

“It’s a good question but I don’t know. There are only a few records that NOFX have recorded that I’ll go back and listen to. I’ll listen to The Decline (Live at Red Rocks) , Wolves in Wolves’ Clothing , War on Errorism and Self-Entitled , but I think Single Album might be my favourite of all of them. Last Resort  just kills me. Lyrically, it’s so emotional for me.”

Since NOFX are about to stop touring, will this be your last album?

“No. I have three more records in the can already. We’re releasing one more side to this album called Half Album .”

When’s that coming out?

“Next year. Then our next record is called Everybody Else Is Insane . Those songs are all there: some are recorded, others almost done and the rest are demoed. That’ll be ready in a year. Then there will be NOFX: A–Z , because over the years I’ve been writing songs that start with every letter of the alphabet. Probably half of those songs are ones people have already heard, but different versions, like Xmas Has Been X’ed  and Zyclone B Bathouse . I’ve been making sure that we have songs that start with every letter of the alphabet.”

NOFX

What can we expect from Half Album and Everybody Else Is Insane , sonically?

“ Everybody Else Is Insane , it’s different. Most of the songs have a 16-chord verse and eight-chord chorus. One song has 54 different chords in a row, no pattern. Some of them repeat, but they’re incredibly complicated. That’s what makes my brain happy: breaking all the rules.”

That’s what punk’s all about, isn’t it?

“Absolutely, and I’m a lifer. I have to push myself all the time, musically and lyrically. People don’t know how complicated NOFX songs are. I’ve always said that punk rock is great music played by shitty, drunk musicians. You don’t start a punk band if you’re a good musician but, if you play long enough, you become a good musician.”

“When we started in the 80s, there wasn’t one hope of making a living off of it or getting bigger, because no one had ever done it. If you sold 10,000 records, that was fucking incredible. You don’t write songs that you think will get popular; you write songs that’ll touch people, but only certain people. If you write enough songs that’ll touch people, then you will touch everybody. But if you write one song for everyone, then you’re not doing it for you. I feel like my responsibility in this world is to help people find happiness.”

Have you done that?

“Absolutely. I think we’ve brought more happiness to the world and that’s the goal in life: happiness. People just don’t know where it is. That’s what I’ll be getting into more when I’m done with that: speaking about that – especially through sexuality. Sex is the greatest thing, but people don’t know how to be happy sexually. They go through the motions maybe once or twice a month. It’s so sad. People are cowards.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by NOFX (@nofx)

Why are you stopping bringing people happiness through live music? Why stop touring?

“It’s been forty years, dude. I’m 55. I don’t need the adulation. It feels like work and I have to get so loaded to have a good time. I’m really excited about playing our last shows because it’ll be so awesome and emotional. We’re gonna play every song we’ve written, off of every album.”

Four years ago, NOFX made headlines because of comments you made on stage about the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. Has that affected your decision to stop touring?

“No. No one gives a fuck. There are still a lot of people in Vegas that are mad at us, so of course I moved there three weeks ago. [Laughs] I’m opening a punk rock museum here in January: 12,000 square feet of punk artefacts and stories. You can play my bass through my amp. We have legends giving tours: Glen Matlock, Roger [Miret] from Agnostic Front, Louiche [Mayorga] from Suicidal Tendencies . I’ve been punk rocking for forty years: I know people.”

Talk about your new band, Codefendants. Is this the replacement of NOFX?

“No. I’m the producer and co-songwriter, but it’s a totally different trajectory. It’s like nothing anyone else has ever heard. We spent a lot of money and made a movie: five music videos with one storyline. And every song is not like the one song before. It’ll be your new favourite band.”

How big do you think Codefendants can get? How much potential is there here?

“I think we’re gonna be the biggest band.”

How many platinum records?

“I don’t give a fuck.”

We’ve talked about the past, present and future of NOFX, so, for the last question, let’s go even bigger. When, in the future, a journalist has to write the obituary of Fat Mike, what do you want it to say?

“That Jew.”

Double Album  is out on 2 December.

Nofx Final Tour, appuntamento in concerto a Milano l'11 e il 12 maggio

nofx

Sabato 11 maggio 2024

• ‘Punk In Drublic’, ‘Wolves in Wolves' Clothing’, ‘Pump Up The Valuum’ + more

Domenica 12 maggio 2024

• ‘So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes’, ‘White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean’, 'The Decline' + more

Eagles rock LA homecoming for Long Goodbye tour, knock nearby 'spaceship' SoFi Stadium

L OS ANGELES – "Good evening and welcome to whatever this is," Eagles founding member, drummer and singer Don Henley said to kick off the band's first 2024 concert of The Long Goodbye tour.

The seminal rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1971, checked into Hotel California again Friday for the first of four sold-out concerts at the Kia Forum for what is promised as the Eagles' final tour. Henley took pride that the four nights ending Jan. 13 will mark 26 times at the iconic 17,500-seat venue.

"We've been playing this joint for 49 years," Henley said, adding that it was the band's strong preference over the gleaming 70,000-seat SoFi Stadium just across the street.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

"We could have just done one night at the spaceship next door and been done with it. But it sounds much better in here," said Henley, sending the Kia Forum crowd into a frenzy. "We prefer to work a little harder and give you a better listening experience."

The Eagles lived up to the great listening experience with Henley, 76, joining longtime guitarist Joe Walsh, 76, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, 76, along with guitarist Vince Gill , 66, who stepped in after founding member and guitarist Glenn Frey  died in 2016 at age 67. Frey's guitarist son Deacon, 31, has also rejoined the band.

Dropping into an acapella version of " Seven Bridges Road " to start the show, the Eagles proved they can still harmonize with startling beauty, following that up with hit-after-hit including "One of These Nights," "Lyin' Eyes," "Best of My Love" and "New Kid in Town."

The Eagles Long Goodbye: See the setlist for the legendary rock band's final tour

Songwriter J.D. Souther, who Henley said played a "critical role" in writing the latter two mega-Eagles hits, among others, made frequent stage appearances, including handling lead vocals in "New Kid in Town," duties once performed by the late Frey.

Deacon Frey, propped up sunglasses holding back his long black hair, handled his father's lead vocal duties on "Peaceful Easy Feeling," a pitch-perfect nostalgic rendition that ended with the stage screens showing a black-and-white photo of the smiling late Eagles founder.

Henley continued to pay concert tribute to Jimmy Buffett , dedicating his solo song "Boys of Summer" to "our dear friend" who died in September at 76.

Walsh held claim to his place as the Clown Prince of Rock by vamping onstage after a retro introduction from Schmidt as "the irreplaceable, the undeniable, the Master of the Stratocaster." Walsh proved worthy of the plaudits, pulling off power guitar solos in songs such as his hit "Life's Been Good."

But Walsh has slightly adapted to the times, changing the line in his ode to spoiled rock stars from "They write me letters, tell me I'm great" to "They write me emails, tell me I'm great."

By the time the band kicked into the classic road anthem "Already Gone," it was clear the Eagles are in fighting shape after performing the tour since kicking off Sept. 7 at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

"How we doing?" Henley asked after the song ended. "We've been practicing."

As promised in the title, The Long Goodbye will continue through 2025.

How is Donald Fagen from Steely Dan?

Fagen, 75, rejoined The Long Goodbye and opened the show Friday with Steely Dan after being hospitalized for an unspecified illness in October. Fagen thanked the audience for the enthusiastic response to Steely Dan's classic song "My Old School."

"It's my first show of the year, and you're making it nice," Fagen said.

After playing "Reelin' In the Years," Fagen paid tribute to fellow band founder Walter Becker, who died in 2017 at 67.

"I want to thank Walter Becker for helping me write all of these tunes," said Fagen.

Madonna’s Celebration Tour pulls record 1.6M fans into the groove at Rio’s Copacabana

More than a million music fans gathered at Brazil’s iconic Copacabana beach to prove their love to Madonna over the weekend.

The “Get into the Groove” and “Vogue” pop diva concluded her career-spanning Celebration Tour with a bang over the weekend, treating fans in Rio de Janeiro to a free beach concert on Saturday. “This really happened,” the singer reminisced in an Instagram video shared Sunday.

The Instagram clip shows an aerial view of attendees assembling on the sandy Brazilian strip, which stretches more than 2 miles along the coast. While some fans danced on the beach, others hosted house parties in nearby beachfront apartments and hotels, the Associated Press reported.

Madonna’s Celebration tour is a messy victory lap that needs more razzle-dazzle

Madonna brought her career-spanning Celebration tour to the Kia Forum for a night of hits, memories and grievances.

March 5, 2024

“This place is magic,” the 65-year-old singing icon said during her show, which also featured appearances from Brazilian artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar.

An estimated 1.6 million people gathered for Madonna’s Celebration Tour finale, Brazilian outlet G1 reported, citing Rio City Hall’s tourism agency. The event was also broadcast on Brazilian network TV Globo. Even before a million-plus fans descended on Copacabana over the weekend, Madonna announced in late March that her send-off would be her “biggest gig yet.”

“The show will be free of charge as a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” her website said.

Saturday’s concert broke Madge’s personal attendance record — 130,000 fans at Paris’ Parc des Sceaux in 1987 — by more than tenfold. Madonna also bested the record previously held by the Rolling Stones’ 2006 Copacabana concert , which drew 1.5 million people.

‘No Madonna fan’ should expect a Madonna show to start on time. So says Team Madonna

Madonna’s legal team submits a dismissal request in a class-action case about her concert tardiness, contending that a two-hour delay didn’t injure ticketholders.

April 5, 2024

” @Madonna makes history in Rio tonight marking the largest ever standalone concert for any artist, with over 1.6 million fans attending as she closes The Celebration Tour,” Live Nation announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Madonna’s Celebration Tour launched in October, months after she was hospitalized for a bacterial infection last June. The Grammy winner brought her headline-generating tour to Inglewood’s Kia Forum for several nights in March.

Times critic Mikael Wood wrote that the singer’s Celebration Tour “ was curiously short on joy. ”

“A pop concert is a theater of personality and craft, not one of plot or character development,” he added. “But a narrative this messy needed more razzle-dazzle.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
