Carvana PPA Tour Announces 2023 Tour Schedule, Payouts

2023 Carvana PPA Tour to feature the World’s largest prize purse of $5.5 Million, host 25 events including six new markets

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 18, 2023 –The Carvana PPA Tour today announced its 2023 tournament schedule and prize payouts. The 2023 tour will boast the largest professional pickleball single-season prize money purse of $5.5 million and be the first professional tour to host 25 events in a single-season.

The 2023 Carvana PPA Tour schedule consists of 25 professional events, including 15 PPA Tour events, four Majors, four World Pickleball Championship Invitational events and two special events based on qualification. The Tour season started Jan. 12 in Palm Springs, California, with the Hyundai Masters where top-ranked male and female pros, Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters , each claimed the Triple Crown. Spanning across 14 states throughout the year, the PPA Tour will hit five new cities across the United States including Seattle and Boca Raton. 

The Carvana PPA Tour will set a professional pickleball record with an initial player payout floor of $5.5 million, with additional payouts to be determined throughout the season. The $5.5 million is an 83.3% payout increase over the $3 million the organization distributed in 2022. On average in 2022, PPA Touring Pros earned $96,000 from tour payouts alone, with top athletes taking home upwards of $200,000. With the 2023 season’s prize purse increase, the Carvana PPA Tour anticipates average player earnings to increase by 63.9% in 2023.

“We are so excited to introduce our 2023 pro roster and payouts as we focus on getting bigger and better each year and solidifying the Carvana PPA Tour as the place for all things pickleball.” said PPA Commissioner and CEO, Connor Pardoe. “This is a huge step for us and is only the beginning for the Tour as we set our sights on larger events, higher prize purses, enhanced player development, and much more. It’s an exciting time for professional pickleball and the ever-evolving landscape.”

The Carvana PPA Tour will feature 65 top touring pros playing exclusively on the PPA circuit. The Tour has 24 top-ranked players from 2022 returning, including the No.1 male and female players, Johns and Waters. The 2023 PPA Tour roster has been strengthened with the addition of 41 top professional players, including Anna Bright, Vivienne David, Dekel Bar, Zane Navratil, Andrea Koop, and many more.

The PPA Tour is the only pickleball entity that has national broadcast rights for its tour stops across a variety of networks. Week in and week out, fans of the game will have the chance to see world-class pickleball nationally on ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN and on specialty networks like Tennis Channel and Fanduel TV. In 2022, the Carvana PPA Tour made history by being the first and only professional pickleball tour to air on a national TV network.

Over the last two years, the PPA Tour has joined forces with premium brands and companies across the country to establish a robust lineup of partners. Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hours CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.

Brief Biography:

Caravan was formed in Canterbury, England in 1968 by Pye Hastings (guitar/ vocals), Dave Sinclair (keyboards), Richard Sinclair (bass/vocals) and Richard Coughlan (drums). The four had previously played at various times with a local band, The Wilde Flowers, which also featured Kevin Ayers and future Soft Machine members Robert Wyatt and Hugh Hopper.

Hailing from Paris, France, Caravan Palace, are widely adored for both their musical prowess and the exhilarating experience they deliver, In about 15 years, the band has grown from a parisian jive sensation to a globalized pop act melding all kinds of influences and capable of tearing the roof off any venue or festival tent!.

The band initially started as a trio, fusing contemporary electronic beats with musical influences from vintage jazz sounds. Their ability to craft lush compositions with a variety of instruments and recording techniques quickly made a stir and, with the help of emerging social networks, they soon completed their lineup while seeing their demos get traction in the plugged-in community. After extensive touring in 2007, including performances at the Django Reinhardt Jazz Festival, their presence in the Paris music scene grew, leading to a recording contract with Café de la Danse.

Their self-titled debut studio album received critical acclaim for its authentic jazz elements and unique electronic flair. The album soon went platinum in France where the band's live performances gained momentum, with concert tickets selling rapidly even with minimal promotion. The subsequent album, “Panic,” was released in 2012 and swiftly became a fan favorite. It contributed significantly to the band's success on a more global scale, enabling them to participate in festivals like Coachella, Dour, or Paleo, as well as sell out club shows in most major European and North American cities.

Their third studio album, cryptically titled <I°_°I>, marked a shift for the band from a live sensation to a stats mastodon with the tracks “Lone Digger”, “Wonderland”, “Comics” and “Aftermath”, amassing billions of streams online.

Throughout their career Caravan Palace have consistently defied convention to become pop mainstays while keeping their cool, innovating their sound and refusing to follow the rules. The next logical step was for them to launch their own label Lone Diggers to release their fourth album Chronologic in 2019 featuring the hit singles Miracle and Moonshine.

With their new album Gangbusters Melody Club released in March 2024, the parisians will hit the road again this year!

Live reviews

I went to see them last night in Los Angeles at the Wiltern. Of course the music was fantastic, the energy was high and the audience was loving it. Their opener was a mix artist who was decent.

Was not impressed with the show stage lighting. Much of the 90 minute show was played largely in the dark, with excessive backlighting and virtually no overhead or spot lighting. The strobing white lights were annoying and even irritating at some points early in the show but later mellowed out. The lack of spot lighting on the musicians was extremely frustrating. There are amazing musicians playing in the dark - even during solos! we couldnt even see them playing at all during a 45 minute stretch. Whoever was in charge of lighting really should be fired.

I was surprised to see the array of instruments was different this year, with no violin or clarinet. I realize the members are shifting a bit but I really loved the clarinet and violin leads from the earlier albums which were not there this time around. The sax did step up with additional leads but didn't reach the level of the old clarinet. They didn't play some of their classic favs, maybe because of the instrumentation changes.

I was slightly dissappointed they only played for 90 minutes and skipped many of their older tunes that I love but did cover most of their new material, which is great too. In short, i just wanted to see and hear more of them.

Caravan Palace put on a truly spectacular show and got the whole place swinging. Their live performance featured a lot more live instruments than I had expected - the stage was littered with synths, guitars, trombones and violins galore - and this made it all the more enjoyable. The band were full of energy and brought their electro swing tunes to life during their one and a half hour set. The fusion of modern drum beats and more traditional instrumental performances that make up Caravan Palace’s distinctive sound made for an evening of retro fun that went down a treat with the entire audience. Everyone was dancing enthusiastically, both on stage and off, and the scat improvisations were a great addition to the show! With seven people on stage, there was a lot to watch, and there was never a moment where the energy levels dropped inside the venue. The atmosphere was electric and you couldn’t glance about without seeing some swing dancing going on around you. Even if you don’t think you can dance, you won’t be able to stop yourself from trying at any Caravan Palace gig.

Caravan Palace literally ooze nostalgia and jazz when performing live. The French outfit are a complete and utter joy and despite neither of their two albums making any real dent on the UK charts, as a nation we have welcomed them to our festivals with open arms due to the fact they are always assured to bring one hell of a swinging party.

The seven musicians onstage all work in perfect harmony and have clearly dedicated the time and effort to endless hours of practice which now pays off in the form of a faultless live performance. 'Queen' sounds almost note perfect to the record and you get to see the dissection of the percussion right before your eyes. The vocalists take the centre for 'Bambous' which features some of that delicious native French and once again adds to the jazz club intimacy of the situation. The whole crowd is expected to get involved during the danceable 'Jolie Coquine' before 'The Dirty Side of the Street' wraps things up in a fantastic crescendo of swing jazz. Vive La France!

Saw them last night (31/01/20) at The Albert Hall in Manchester. First time seeing them live and also my first gig at this quirky former Methodist Chapel. The warm up DJ was utterly forgetful but Caravan Palace put on a show that will long live in the memory. The blend of sounds, a mixture of techno and swing jazz was amazing. I've never heard anything like it live. And then there is the energy both on stage and in the audience. The whole venue seemed to be dancing as one despite there being very little room to move. I like the smaller venues as they help create a closer bond with the group and all the band members contributed tirelessly to ensure everyone participated. I can't wait to see them again. Best £25 I spent in a long time.

Got to the House of Blues for lunch and ate in order to pass the line, and got there two and a half hours early to pass the line. We were first in line to the Music Hall, and while waiting, the band walked directly in front of us out and then back in to the Music Hall about 5 minutes apart. The show was an experience of a lifetime, if you have not seen them live and in person, you're missing out on a great show. Not only were they sweating, but so was the crowd. The energy level stayed swingin' the entire time. The entire floor was flexing underneath us, and we were told the tvs in the restaurant downstairs were shaking. If you have the opportunity, don't miss the chance to see these great people live!

These guys know how to party! So much fun - a highly entertaining evening of jazzy electro pop in the beautiful surroundings of Somerset House.

Caravan Palace are one of those bands that deserve to be seen live because their songs and music are written to be performed that way. Whilst they sound very good on a crisp studio recording, it's when they are together, on a stage, with the volume turned up and a jumping crowd that they are clearly at their happiest - and best.

Absolute blast of a show. Took my brother who has never heard a song or even knows about this genre of music he had an awesome time. He even wished we had gotten up close and asked about another show. High energy and real musical talent is what you'll get from them. And if you're a fan like me you're going to be very excited song after song after song. Loved the concert love the band and can't wait till they comeback. If you have the chance it's definitely a good time!

Caravan Palace was great! They brought the energy and kept it up the whole time. Lots of fun and you can tell the band enjoys playing together and goofing around on stage. The crowd loved it and overall it was a blast. The one negative was the opening act, Akki, who was mixed quality during the whole performance. She would have moments of fun, but lots of dead time where the crowd was really not feeling it.

Wow. Amazing show. They're basically beautiful, well-dressed hipsters with massive musical talent and tons of energy. And really good choreographed lighting. I thought they were just DJs who sampled old-timey music, but they actually produce all of it live with real instruments! (Or most of it - some of the drums seemed to be pre-recorded.) But still! Would definitely go back and bring friends.

Doors opened at 7. The band didn't get on stage until 8:45 and there was no opener. They only played for an hour and a half.

The show itself was incredible, but someone should be smacked over the head if they think making everyone wait for that long and not even playing as long as everyone waited is a good idea.

Show should have started at 8:30 at the absolute latest.

There will be several Toronto stops including The Toronto Zoo, Scotiabank Arena and more. PARKING INFO

You'll find plenty of parking all around the CN Tower. The closest lots are the south lot of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (enter off Lower Simcoe from Bremner Blvd or Lake Shore Blvd) and the Impark lot on Navy Wharf (along the west side of the Rogers Centre just north of Bremner Blvd).
