You may have driven around Lake Tahoe and enjoyed the unsurpassed scenery, but you get a whole different perspective from out on the water. Lake Tahoe paddle wheeler boat tours provide you with the opportunity to see the Lake Tahoe Basin in a new way and enjoy a fun ride at the same time.

Three Paddlewheelers on Lake Tahoe

Two similar paddle wheelers ply the waters of Lake Tahoe. Both are sternwheelers, fitted out Mississippi-style with twin smokestacks up front and three decks, including an outside seating area up top. Each has a prominent forward wheelhouse. The M.S. Dixie II , certified for up to 450 passengers and 151 feet long, is headquartered in Zephyr Cove, Nevada, and was brought to Lake Tahoe after doing duty on the Mississippi River. The 350 passengers, 144 foot long Tahoe Queen sails from Ski Run Marina over in South Lake Tahoe on the California side.

The Tahoe Gal is a sidewheeler based in Tahoe City, CA, on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. The address is 952 N. Lake Blvd. (Lighthouse Mall). At 64 feet long, she is the smallest of the three excursion boats. For more information, call (800) 218-2464.

Both the Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II run a year-round schedule of sightseeing cruises across Lake Tahoe and through Emerald Bay. In addition, each boat offers trips with special amenities, such as sunset dinner cruises with live entertainment and captain's dinner dance cruises.

Tahoe Queen Ski Shuttle:  This cruise takes skiers to the north shore of Lake Tahoe at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village. The fare includes a lift ticket to Northstar California. Tahoe Queen North Shore Scenic Cruise:  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Tahoe Queen takes passengers on a scenic cruise around the north end of Lake Tahoe. The one and a half hour trip departs from and returns to the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village.

The Tahoe Gal offers private charter cruises for up to 135 people. They do weddings and receptions, rehearsal dinners, birthdays, anniversaries, company parties, and family reunions. Big lakes like Tahoe can get mighty rough when winds swoop down from the peaks, making it hazardous for even big boats like the Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II to be out on the water. Welcome Aboard the M S Dixie II | Lake Tahoe

The M.S. Dixie II is the largest cruising vessel in South Lake Tahoe. Cruises run all throughout the day, and at sunset. Plus, you can even order cocktails and eat lunch and dinner on this historic boat.

The M.S. Dixie is ready for tours of beautiful Lake Tahoe all year long. The boat offers indoor and outdoor seating.

The Daytime Scenic Cruise leaves from Zephyr Cove Resort and lasts for about 2.5 hours. During this tour, the boat travels to Emerald Bay. Along the way, you’ll have incredible views of the surrounding mountains and forests. You’ll also see some popular sights of Emerald Bay like Vikingsholm Castle and Fannette Island. 

This tour includes access to the bars on the boat, and lunch is available to order from their menu.

Tickets are $75 for adults, $45 for kids (ages 3-11), and free for those under 3.

The Sunset Dinner Cruise offers gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe under the color-changing sky. This 3-hour cruise also goes to Emerald Bay. A 3-course dinner is included, the bars are open, and there’s live music! 

Tickets are $105 for adults, $50 for kids, and kids ages 3 and under are free.

TOURS WE OFFER

Join us for a fun and adventurous day on Lake Tahoe. Our guided Kayak/ Paddleboard tours can be custom tailored to your needs. Each tour starts with a scenic boat ride captained by one of our USCG licensed professionals. We offer many different water trails to choose from, each hand-picked based on the scenic beauty, wildlife, terrain and unique variations. Once we arrive at the chosen destination, you will be loaded on Kayaks or Paddleboards and given 45 minutes to one hour to tour beautiful Lake Tahoe.

SPECLIATY TOURS

Rubicon Point tour

You will begin your tour from Rubicon Point to the Whiskey Cove Falls. Trip time 3 hours total approximately one hour paddle time. Length of tour:  3 hrs (approx).

$125 per person

Emerald bay tour.

Your tour begins in the beautiful Southwest Corner of Emerald Bay and culminates at the sunken barge. Length of tour: 3 hrs (approx).

Sugar Pine Point tour

Your tour will begin from Sugar Pine Point and Culminate in Meeks Bay. A bit longer boat tour, trip time 3.5-4 hours average paddle time 1 hour (approx).

$150 per person

Deadman’s point adventure.

The tour begins at the point and culminates at Logan Shoals paddle time 1 hour. Trip time 3.5-4 hours paddle time 1 hour (approx).

HOW IT WORKS

All trips will begin at our office at the Tahoe Keys Marina. You and your guest will be given a short questionnaire and will determine your skill level and ability to paddle or kayak.

Once we have established your skill level. Your guide will go over a brief safety and instruction phase. (approx: 10mins)

After the safety brief, you will be taken on a scenic boat tour to your chosen destination. Once we arrive, we will load you onto the paddleboards/ kayaks. Instruction and assistance with getting on or off the paddle board/kayak will be provided. You will then be guided along the shoreline of you choice by your personal guide, while the boat captain trails close behind to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.

Upon completion of the tour, photos will be taken, and you will be loaded back onto the boat. refreshments will be served on the ride back to the marina.

The Tahoe Gal is one of Lake Tahoe’s iconic sights, turning heads as she plies the Lake’s blue waters against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevadas. The 38-ton vessel, reminiscent of a 19th-century paddle-wheeler, is 62 feet stem-to-stern and with a 20-foot beam, she is and certified to carry 120 passengers. The Tahoe Gal offers daily narrated sight-seeing cruises, exclusive charters for corporate meetings and dinner parties, weddings and cocktail cruises … and the locally popular Sunday ‘Happy Hour’ cruise

The “Gal” is equipped with a full galley and bar. There is also the private Commodore Salon topside that can comfortably accommodate private parties of up to 25 people. The Salon sits on the top deck of the Tahoe Gal and is segregated from the wheelhouse of the ship by a large glass window. You may choose to watch the Captain run the ship through the window, or the window can be draped for privacy. The entire ship is air-conditioned, heated, and has four audio/video stations. There is wheelchair access to the main deck.

The Tahoe Gal berths at Tahoe City’s Lighthouse Center under an exclusive and secure lease with California State Lands and has private dedicated parking.  These two thoroughly unique features assure a competition-free position in North Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Gal offers one of Lake Tahoe’s unforgettable experiences for individual visitors, for weddings, and birthdays, business meetings and private parties, or moments of reflection in one of the world’s great environments.

And p.s. the new owners of the Tahoe Gal get six months off a year.

Check-In & Location

The M.S. Dixie II departs from historic Zephyr Cove, Nevada at  760 U.S. Hwy 50, Zephyr Cove, NV 89448 . Please check-in 30 minutes prior to departure time to receive boarding passes. Prepaid reservations may wait for boarding call at the end of the pier, unpaid reservations must go to the ticket booth prior to embark.

Shuttle Service & Parking

Complimentary shuttle transportation is offered from select local Lake Tahoe areas. You will have the opportunity to opt-in for this shuttle service during the online booking process. The service is first-come, first-served. There is a nominal transportation fee for groups of 20 or more. If space is not available,  parking  is available for a fee. 

When you book you reservation, you will see the option to select your shuttle pick up and location. Locations include:

Table Seating

For dinner you will be seated at community tables of 6 guests. For a private table experience 6 tickets must be purchased.

Cancellation Policy

Please cancel at least 48 hours prior to departure time in order to avoid a no show or cancellation fee of full payment.

Service animals are permitted on the cruise. No other animals are allowed. 

Smoking Policy

No smoking is allowed inside the M.S. Dixie II; Smoking is prohibited on the 3rd deck and outside viewing areas.

For parties of 8 or more, a 20% gratuity will automatically apply. Guest will be required to pre-pay the gratuity charge upon arrival. 

Security Procedure

Due to increased National Security Levels, we reserve the right to search guests and their personal belongings prior to boarding the boat.

Accessibility

The M.S. Dixie II comes equipped with a handicap-accessible restroom. Wheelchairs are permitted on the boat, but there are no elevators on board to take the guest to the second deck.
