The Barbie & Ken Star Trek Giftset was a special set featuring two of Mattel 's 11 1/2 inch Barbie and Ken dolls in Star Trek uniforms. The collector's edition set was released in 1996 to commemorate Star Trek 's 30th anniversary . Both figures are dressed in Star Trek: The Original Series -style uniforms and accessories and the packaging features the two dolls standing on the USS Enterprise 's bridge next to printed cutouts of Kirk and Spock .

• Barbie ("inspired by Yeoman Rand ") wears a red operations division miniskirt with lieutenant 's stripes and holds a communicator and a tricorder .
• Ken ("inspired by Captain Kirk") wears a gold command division top with commander 's stripes, black pants, and holds a communicator and a phaser .

A matching analog wristwatch with storage case was produced by Hope Industries in 1996 and was packaged as a "collector timepiece." Both the watch and case featured images of the two dolls with the corresponding Star Trek and Barbie logos.

Joker was a box office hit, and early signs from the first Joker: Folie à Deux teaser trailer indicate the follow-up might follow suit.

• Joker: Folie à Deux teaser trailer breaks records, surpassing even Barbie's first trailer views.
• Lady Gaga's addition as Harley Quinn could be a game-changer for the sequel's box office success.
• With positive online reception and high viewership, Joker: Folie à Deux has potential to hit $1 billion.

The first teaser trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux was recently released and became the highest-viewed trailer in its first 24 hours for Warner Bros. since the smash hit Barbie . Joker was a runaway hit for DC in 2019, earning over $1 billion at the box office and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time . Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his performance as the titular character and returns for Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Lady Gaga as a completely new take on Harley Quinn .

There's no way to know if Joker: Folie à Deux will reach the same critical and financial heights as its predecessor, but the movie's first teaser trailer certainly bodes well. If the musical aspects are well executed like they were in the first movie, Joker: Folie À Deux could become another massive success for DC and Warner Bros. After a string of box office disappointments for DC, this would be huge for the comic giant's cinematic reputation.

It's hard to compare such different movies, but with superhero fatigue being a real concern, it's a great start.

Joker: Folie À Deux is following in the footsteps of a surprising break-out hit. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” elevated a Mattel-produced toy adaptation into a work of art that drew near-universal acclaim — but extended references to the one most famously difficult writers in modernist literature were still a bridge too far for test audiences.

“I think I got most of them in there,” Gerwig said when asked about alternative Barbies that didn’t make the final cut. “We did have a more extensive thing that we were doing with a doll that had never been made and should never be made, which was Proust Barbie, but that was too strange for everybody.”

Proust Barbie was played by Lucy Boynton , who still appears in the background despite having most of her lines cut from the film. In a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw,” the actress reflected on losing the scenes after learning that test audience members were unfamiliar with Proust.

“Proust Barbie is only softly in the background of the ‘Barbie’ film, because in the test screenings, it turns out that contemporary audiences don’t know who Proust is, so the joke doesn’t quite land,” Boynton said. “[It’s] a little bit of a heartbreaker that we are kind of losing touch with that history, but hopefully this will then be a trigger for people to read up on Marcel Proust. It was a shocker.”

Boynton’s disappointment with the lack of public literacy is understandable, but Gerwig’s experiment could pave the way for the next toy adaptation to be even bolder. Perhaps now Margot Robbie’s cinematic take on “Monopoly” will feel emboldened to include a scene about Friedrich Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom.”
