Axl Rose Brings ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ to Carrie Underwood’s ‘Denim & Rhinestones’ Tour
By Larisha Paul
Larisha Paul
Carrie Underwood ‘s Denim & Rhinestones tour only has a few dates to go before it wraps up, but she’s got the set down to a science. Every night, after almost two hours of music, she returns for her first encore with a cover of Guns N’ Roses hit “Welcome to the Jungle.” Anyone at her Los Angeles show on Monday who had looked up the setlist beforehand knew it was coming, but they didn’t know frontman Axl Rose would be hitting the stage for it, too.
“Los Angeles, I want to hear you make some noise,” Underwood called out to the arena audience, pausing momentarily before adding: “For Axl Rose.” In a zebra print jacket and black jeans, the frontman opted for denim over rhinestones.

She added: “But [for Stagecoach] I asked. I sent him an email and said, ‘We’re so close to you,’ and explained the why and what he meant to me. The way I learned how to sing was I would pick really hard vocalists to try to emulate, and his voice always mesmerized me. I was like, ‘How is he doing the things that he’s doing?’ So I told him all that…and he came! We had rehearsals and everything went very smoothly. It was easy for all of us to be around each other. Hopefully, he had a good time.”
After “Welcome to the Jungle,” Underwood closed her L.A. show with “Before He Cheats.” The tour wraps on Friday, March 17, with one last show in Seattle.

Slash and Axl were in the studio this week. So, are Guns N' Roses working on new music?
Axl Rose and Slash were listening to "new mixes" – sparking hopes that fresh Guns N' Roses material is on the way
A picture of Slash and Axl Rose together in the studio has ignited hopes that Guns N' Roses could be working on new material.
The photo was shared on social media by Urban Sound Studios in Oslo, Norway, where the band had appeared at the Tons of Rock festival.
And it appears guitarist Slash and vocalist Rose were listening to "new mixes" ahead of their headline slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this weekend.
The picture is accompanied by the caption: "We got to hang out with these two rock legends in the studio today. Really cool guys! The band wanted a nice studio with a variety of speakers and headphones to listen to new mixes before they head for Glastonbury. It sounds awesome!"
Guns N' Roses' most recent album was 2008's Chinese Democracy .
Fans may be wary of getting excited about the "new mixes." That's because in 2021 the band released "new" singles Absurd and Hard Skool , which both turned out to be reworkings of tracks from the Chinese Democracy era.

Alex Rose is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and RnB performer. He recently released his first album Sexflix to widespread acclaim.
After becoming interested in music at a young age, Rose would enter school dancing and singing competitions, with early influences including artists such as Daddy Yankee, Don Omar and Arcangel. Rose released a few singles back in 2016, but his first hit came in 2017 when he released a remix of his song Percocet with Lenny Tavarez. He was hailed as the new voice of trap and the track now has over 56 million plays on Spotify. Rose is part of the resurgence of Latin-American style music and is part of the movement which is making these once lesser known sounds commercially successful. He regularly works with artists such as Cazzu and Rauw Alejandro who have helped to cement his reputation in the urban music scene. On the back of the single Percocet, Rose released his first album Sexflix, and began to tour in his native Puerto Rico. The tour was a sell out, and his fanbase started expanding across the rest of Latin America and the world. He embarked on another tour, this time including countries such as Paraguay, Chile, the Dominican Republic and America.
2019 saw the release of two more albums for Rose, Back in My Days and LOST. The artist now has nearly 3 millions followers on YouTube and continues to tour, collaborate and spend time writing and recording music.

'And then we were dominoes': Slash opens up about his new tour, Axl Rose and getting COVID
Between Axl Rose and Myles Kennedy, Slash knows he’s fortunate to share stages with two brawny rock yowlers.
But the ace guitarist with the identifiable ebony top hat is more than a bit responsible for the massive and sustained success of Guns N’ Roses as well as the smaller, albeit equally musically stinging crunch-rock of Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.
Slash, Kennedy and the rest of band – drummer Brent Fitz, bassist Todd Kerns and rhythm guitarist Frank Sidoris – kick off a 28-city tour on Tuesday as a primer for the release Friday of their aptly named fourth album, “4.”
The record – the first release on the new Gibson Records label in affiliation with the guitar brand – arrives in grand form, including deluxe vinyl and CD box sets and, in a nod to a certain demographic, a cassette tape.
Worried about buying a concert ticket? Here's what to know about ticketing policies
Many of the songs, such as “The Path Less Followed,” were written before the pandemic and draw influence from life experiences. Slash wrote the riff for the cinematic “Fall Back to Earth” while on safari in South Africa (“Musically, for me, the environment does have an influence” he said), and the beautifully melodic “Fill My World” reflects Kennedy’s sadness after seeing his Shih Tzu Mozart panicking during a storm via his home video system.
Calling from band rehearsal in Los Angeles, Slash, 56, talked with USA TODAY about the Conspirators’ collective bout with COVID-19 , working with renowned producer Dave Cobb on “4” and the young artists who will carry the rock 'n’ roll torch.
Q: The band’s The River is Rising tour kicks off Tuesday. How worried are you about getting through it with everyone staying healthy?
Slash: Fingers crossed. We just did the Guns N’ Roses tour and there were a lot of precautions. We have so many safety measures (prepared) for this tour, so we just go for it. It’s a conscientious group of people, but you can’t control everything, and it’s hard to contain this thing.
Q: How did almost everyone in the band getting COVID-19 affect this new record?
Slash: We were 100% confident we were all secure. We rented a tour bus from Las Vegas to Nashville, where we were recording. Everyone got tested at a Vegas clinic; everyone was negative. We had a great drive across the country to Nashville and we had this great experience recording live in-studio. We did it relatively fast, and as soon as we were done, I got the call from Myles that he tested positive. And then we were dominoes. I got vaccinated and got it two days later. Fortunately the record was done. We only had some overdubs so it slowed that down, but we were lucky.
Q: You’ve had the privilege of working with two of rock’s most robust vocalists. From a musical standpoint, what’s it like creating with Myles versus Axl?
Slash: It’s an entirely different band. With Myles and the other guys, it’s its own thing, and Axl and (GNR bassist) Duff (McKagan) and that environment, it’s its own thing. With The Conspirators, it’s not a huge band like Guns N’ Roses, so we don’t have any major expectations and do it for the fun of it and go out and play. Guns N’ Roses has become a thing, and it’s impossible to get away from the fact that it’s as big as it is and there’s that pressure. I’m really fortunate to be in two really great bands.
Rock Hall 2022: Nominees include Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Rage Against the Machine
Q: You recorded with Dave Cobb in Nashville, who produces a lot of country and rootsy artists (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile). What made him the right choice?
Slash: No offense to Dave, but I didn’t know who he was at the time. I talked to people about who are the good rock producers out there right now, and I was given a short list of four. The interesting thing about Dave was that while he was primarily country, they were the coolest, most down-to-earth, raw and human records, so I dug that. On top of that, he had recorded Rival Sons, and they stuck out as this great-sounding rock band on the radio. I called Dave and we had in common wanting to record a rock record live. I record live all the time and want to capture that energy of everyone in the same room. It’s not tangible to the average listener. If you’re listening to The Faces, you don’t know how the energy is the way it is. It’s this invisible thing that really has an important facet of what the record sounds like.
Q: You guys have been together for a decade. Were you ever planning this project to last this long?
Slash: Fortunately for me, I never think too far into the future. When we first started doing this in 2010, I never would have been able to imagine this 10 years down the road. But it was so much fun and one of those kinds of things that there was instantaneous chemistry with the four of us. We had this thing locked and loaded, and Frank (Sidoris) came in, and it’s all been an organic fit.
Q: When you see young rockers like Wolfgang Van Halen and Marc LaBelle from Dirty Honey, how does it make you feel about the future of rock?
Slash: Wolfgang comes from a legacy and is an island unto himself. But with Marc, we had his band on our Living the Dream tour, and they were great because you don’t hear too many rock bands like them. There’s a real groundswell of kids playing rock 'n’ roll stripped down and not affected by the trappings of this industry, and Dirty Honey is one of those bands. It’s not mainstream, so the average person isn’t really aware of it, but the kids are aware of it. I love seeing it.

Axl Rose is UNRECOGNIZABLE and buff at 60 as he sports new look with Guns N' Roses in Singapore
SINGAPORE: Axl Rose has been a rockstar since the mid-'80s, and he looks nothing like his earlier self. The Guns N' Roses frontman turned heads as he stormed the stage at Singapore's National Stadium as part of the band's latest tour.
Axl, whose real name is William Bruce Rose Jr , wore a black graphic t-shirt and a pair of ripped jeans as he performed alongside his longtime guitarist, Slash . The vocalist's golden tresses from his glory days had been replaced with a standard haircut, and his signature bandana was nowhere to be seen. The rocker completed his look with a black glove on his left and accessorized with multiple pieces of jewelry.

MEAWW previously reported on Axl's mental health struggles. During the crooner's late teens, a psychiatrist concluded that he showed evidence of psychosis but also noted his high IQ. In an early interview titled 'The world according to W. Axl Rose by Del James', the singer opened up about his condition. When asked if he considered himself manic-depressive, the singer said, "I'm very sensitive and emotional, and things upset me and make me feel like not functioning or not dealing with people, the band, or anything."
The iconic frontman added, "I went to a clinic, thinking it would help my moods. The only thing I did was take one 500-question test - ya know, filling in the little black dots. All of a sudden I'm diagnosed manic-depressive. 'Let's put Axl on medication.' Well, the medication doesn't help me deal with stress. The only thing it does is help keep people off my back because they figure I'm on medication."
It's worth noting that Guns N' Roses are undergoing somewhat of a resurrection after the band released their first "new" track in 13 years last year. The song was an official audio version of the track 'Absurd', which they performed live at Boston's Fenway Park on August 3. The previously unreleased track was originally titled 'Silkworms', but the live recording was retitled 'Absurd', per Rolling Stone .
Guns N' Roses have been playing a world tour that included dates in North America and Europe before performing in Singapore. The band is slated to perform in Australia with upcoming dates after they arrived in Perth on Sunday, November 13, for their massive stadium tour. They are expected to be supported by Australian punk bands The Chats and Cosmic Psychos.

The next performance will be at Metricon Stadium at the Gold Coast on November 24, before they take the show to Accor Stadium in Sydney on November 27. The band's final tour dates will be at Adelaide Oval on November 29 and December 3 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Daily Mail reported.

Artist’s statement.
Watching and photographing huge masses of creatures is fascinating. From schools of fish and murmurations of starlings, to colonies of ants and swarms of people, it is incredible to see thousands of individuals moving as what appear to be a single organism. Shoaling behavior in sardines is the epitome of group movement, and it was a real treat to visit this shallow dive site in the Sea of Cortez and be able to just hang in 30 feet of water and watch this spectacle. After being completely surrounded for about 15 minutes, the cloud of sardines lifted off the bottom to reveal Eliot, a diver and fellow underwater photographer, who had until then been obscured by all the fish, adding some much-needed perspective to my image.
- How I got the shot
I regularly return to this specific dive site (Los Islotes in La Paz) because it is frequented by shoaling sardines in the fall, but this was by far the densest I’ve ever seen the fish there. Silver fishes are extremely reflective, so it is easy to “blow them out” by using too much light. I was careful to have my strobes firing at quarter power so as to only highlight the sardines; this setting also allows the lights to recycle much faster so you never miss a shot.
What I used
I shot this image with a Canon 5D Markiii and Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens in an Aquatica housing complete with two Ikelite DS-161 strobes. Camera settings were 1/200 second at f/11, and the strobes were on manual at quarter power.

My home base is in Woodridge, Ilinois, a quiet area in the western suburbs of Chicago, but I’m gone about half the year for work. I’m the science editor of Ocean Geographic Magazine, a quarterly ocean conservation publication headquartered in Sydney, Australia, where I serve as an underwater photographer and environmental journalist. I’ve been shooting professionally for about six years, and I always say that I’ll go anywhere there’s water! That being said, Raja Ampat, Indonesia, and the high Arctic are probably my two favorite places on Earth. So far.
As a biologist, nature is endlessly fascinating to me. After I began writing environmental pieces for work, I decided to really buckle down with my photography so I could create images to accompany my articles, and I’ve been intoxicated by the craft since. The incredible underwater photographs of Ernie Brooks, Michael AW, David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes have remained a constant source of inspiration for me, and I am incredibly fortunate to now call them not just mentors, but friends.
I come from a science background, and am an insufferable biology nerd who never seems to run out of unsolicited animal facts or terrible nature puns. I just can’t kelp myself! Silliness aside, my fascination with organismal biology means that I’m always on the lookout for behaviors to photograph that will tell a compelling story about an animal, and understanding the science behind a behavior makes it easier to capture.
NANPA and me
I have been a NANPA member for two years now, and least year I was recognized in the mammals category with my image of a sea lion bursting through a school of fish. With all the isolation of the pandemic, I was looking for novel ways to connect with the photographic community. It’s great to have the chance to attend webinars, meet like-minded individuals, plan future trips, and work towards creating ever more impactful images.

Alexis Javier Guzmán Cotto, known in the Urban music industry as Alex Rose. Alex was born in the city of Carolina, in Puerto Rico on April 16th, 1993. Alex Rose is a singer-songwriter within the musical genres that are now dominating the urban Latin music industry such as the RNB and the TRAP. He started in music from a young age, imitating other artists and dancing in school competitions. His inspirations at that time were artists such as: Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Wisin y Yandel, and Arcángel. After his first song "Percocet Remix", with which he made himself known, Alex Rose began to feel the acceptance of the audience. It was cataloged as: The New Voice of the Trap, The New Rock Star, and The Best of the new artists. Among Alex Rose’s most recent projects is his first album Sexflix, in which the public can enjoy musical songs that tell different stories, using the essence of songs that had their success in the past such as: Let Me Love You (Mario), I Wanna Love You (Akon), among others through a sampler. This successful album is divided into two: VOL.1 and VOL.2 of Sexflix. The album VOL.1 has 4 songs: Darte, Déjate Llevar, Yo Quisiera and Sigue Preguntando. After the acceptance and the unexpected success that his album Sexflix received, Alex Rose made his first tour in his native Puerto Rico presenting all his songs. After several shows in his country, his music began to expand throughout Latin America and this allowed him to take his talent to countries such as: Paraguay, Chile, Dominican Republic and the United States. It is also important to highlight the song "TODA REMIX" that has the collaboration of artists like: Lenny Tavarez and Cazzu. This song managed to position itself in the TOP of the lists of the Spotify platform and achieved more than 100 million "views" on YouTube for only 2 months. For 2019 Alex Rose will bring new music with great collaborations such as: Nicky Jam, Arcangel, Bryan Myers, Almighty and Wisin.

Axl Rose’s 60 Now and Living the Dream with Guns N’ Roses
Axl Rose's life has been filled with major ups and downs.
Both his personal life and his professional life have suffered a lot, especially in the '90s.
Now, however, Rose is back to doing what he does best — making music and entertaining people.
For a man who's in his early 60s, the Guns N' Roses frontman is doing great right now.
Axl Rose Is Now Alive and 60
Rose was born on February 6, 1962, as William Bruce Rose Jr. in Lafayette, Indiana. He turned 60 in 2022.
Despite hitting the big number, he did not post anything regarding his birthday. He tweeted on February 5 on Duff McKagan's birthday.
"Happy birthday Duff n' Del!!!" he wrote on the birthday tweet.
Even though he made no celebratory posts for his birthday, everyone who loved him did.
Guns N' Roses's official Instagram uploaded a video of him belting the band's 'Paradise City' in one of their recent concerts.
"The one n' only! Show Axl Rose some birthday love," the post read. The comment section was filled with wishes from fans all over the globe.
Axl Rose Is Now Making Music Again
Rose, alongside original band members Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, and Steven Adler, formed Guns N' Roses in 1985.
They achieved massive success just two years into their journey in hard rock.
Their first two albums got them immense popularity between 1987 and 1989. However, things changed for the worse as 1990 arrived.

He had met his first and only wife, Erin Everly, in 1986. But by 1990, they were separated, and their marriage was annulled in 1991 due to physical and emotional abuse .
In the band, turmoil had started. Adler was briefly fired for his drug use but reinstated later. This went on for many years.
All the original band members except Rose had left, leaving him as the only original band member by the time the 21st century started.
1994's 'Sympathy for the Devil' became the band's last single to feature McKagan on bass and Slash on lead guitar until recent times.
In 2000, the then sole OG member of the group, Rose, spoke about why he thought the band broke up.
"The poverty is what kept us together. That was how we became Guns N' Roses. Once that changed, Guns N' Roses was like the old Stones or whatever," he told Rolling Stones .
He further compared the band to a car and said when there were many drivers in one car, the vehicle was bound to go "off the cliff."
At this point, a reunion of the original band members seemed next to impossible. And it remained like that for many years to come.
Rose told The Guardian in 2009 that either he or Slash would die before a reunion.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Guns N' Roses (@gunsnroses)
However, the unthinkable started to take shape in 2014. First, he reconnected with McKagan. The bassist got along well with the new members of the band. Then, Slash came around.
Therefore, in 2016, Guns N' Roses completed a once unfathomable reunion. It wasn't a complete reunion, though, as Stradlin and Adler were absent from it.
They headlined Coachella 2016, and Rose is now touring and making music.
On August 6, 2021, the band released 'Absurd,' their first new music since 2008. And on September 24, 'Hard Skool' was released.
Rose has also been on tour with the band in recent times — in 2020, their Not in This Lifetime... tour began, and they are set to play in North and South America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand in 2022.
