I saw her last night in San Antonio, TX, it was my daughter first concert, and she did not disappoint. She is amazing live! Well worth the money spent. From the settings to the chorography her team did a fantastic job. The concert kept us on our feet the entire time. I will defiantly go see her again when she returns.

Truly amazing! Her performance was full of heaps of energy and soul. A beautiful mixture of singing, dancing and a quick preview of her of her acrobatic skills! One of the best musicians to see in concert. Would be darn near impossible to not sway and jump when she's on stage. I've waited so long to see her and she did not disappoint. Really hope to see SZA in London more!!!

Amazing show! Sza sounded amazing! She looked like she was having an awesome time while performing and the crowd loved her. The energy in the venue was hella dope! At one point she instructed security to find any cases of water around to pass out to the people on the floor, saying "get the cases from the tour bus." I thought that was super cool of her.

Grammy-award-winning music trendsetter and icon SZA will continue her touring trek with four shows at The O2 this June. She’ll be joined by British pop sensation RAYE.

The 2023 tour follows SZA’s hugely successful sophomore album, SOS, which was released in December and earned the superstar the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the United States. The album also claimed ten non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart - the most among albums by women in seven years. During the first run of the S.O.S. Tour earlier this year, SZA gave unforgettable performances night after night. The platinum recording artist performed  classics like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend” in addition to newer mega-hits such as “Kill Bill,” and “Shirt.” Fans also got to experience special performances from a number of surprise guests including Phoebe Bridgers, Cardi B, Summer Walker, Lizzo and more.

The S.O.S. Tour marked SZA’s first-ever arena tour and earned the superstar endless praise, with Rolling Stone noting that “SZA lives up to all the anticipation” on opening night. The New York Times called her Madison Square Garden headlining debut “vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate — the sort of show that manages the rare trick of feeling both vibrantly communicative and also protectively insular,” while Billboard proclaimed that the performance “delivered a message that she’s truly made a next-level step in her career.”

Born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, NJ, genre-defying, and GRAMMY Award winning recording artist SZA released her major label debut album Ctrl (TDE/RCA) in 2017. Revered for its raw and honest lyrics, it landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen Music. The now RIAA-certified 3xPlatinum album received five Grammy nominations in 2018 and more than half the songs on Ctrl are currently certified multi-Platinum and Gold. Ctrl remains on the Billboard 200 chart since its release in 2017 and holds the record for the longest run for any Black female artist’s debut album. In 2022 alone it sold over 600,000 units and is the 10th best-selling female album this year in the country and 50th best-selling album in 2022 overall.

To close out the trying year of 2020, SZA gifted fans on Christmas Day with the hopeful track “Good Days.” Grammy-nominated for Best R&B Song, the single quickly became SZA’s greatest gaining solo single release, peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and marking her first time in the chart’s top ten as the main artist. December 2021, SZA scored her second lead artist top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the official release of “I Hate U,” which debuted at #7. The song also entered at #1 on both Spotify and Apple Music US charts and broke the record for the most streamed R&B song by a female artist on Apple Music in its first week.  Fan favorite “Shirt” has garnered over 60 million streams globally since its release in October.

On December 9, 2022, SZA released her long-awaited sophomore album SOS.  Instantly and universally met with acclaim, SOS debuted and claimed ten non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, the longest run for an album by a woman in seven years. Standout track “Kill Bill” is RIAA-certified 3x Platinum and earned the #1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart and several Apple Music and Spotify charts globally. Currently RIAA-certified 2x Platinum, SOS includes features by Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers and Ol’ Dirty Bastard; with production by Ctrl hitmaking collaborators ThankGod4Cody and Carter Lang, alongside Jeff Bhasker, Rob Bisel, Benny Blanco, Kenny “Babyface'' Edmonds, Emile Haynie, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Jay Versace, and more.

To this day, SZA continues to set the standard on creativity and songwriting, while shattering records with over 10 billion streams worldwide across all platforms. SZA has won various awards since the release of Ctrl including a 2022 GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat, Billboard Music Awards’ Top R&B Female Artist, BET Awards’ Best New Artist, BET Soul Train Awards’ Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Best New Artist, MTV Video Music Awards’ Best Visual Effects for the “All The Stars'' with Kendrick Lamar, and NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding New Artist. In 2019, she won NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding Duo or Group for “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation for the Black Panther Soundtrack. SZA also received Billboard’s 2019 Women in Music Rule Breaker award. More recently, SZA was crowned the 2023 Woman of the Year at the Billboard’s Women in Music Awards and won iHeart Radio Music Awards for R&B Artist of the Year and R&B Song of the Year for “I Hate U.”

SZA at the O2 Arena review: a sense-swamping cinematic spectacle

Global Citizen Festival 2022: Accra

A marathon 30-song musical feast became a swashbuckling maritime adventure as SZA brought her SOS world tour to London for this, the second in an extended four-night run at the O2. Featuring digitally generated oceans, life-sized boats, a pop-up lighthouse and more, this technically dazzling maximalist spectacle felt at times like a cross between a Broadway stage musical, Shakespeare ’s The Tempest, and a live-action Spongebob Squarepants episode.

Formerly known as Solána Imani Rowe, the 33-year-old Missouri-born singer gave a full-steam-ahead performance to match her extravagant surroundings, commendably refusing to be upstaged by her own stage.

With a tight, jazzy, versatile band tucked away in the shadowy corners, this performance was as much a platform for state-of-the-art visuals and production design as it was for SZA’s dynamic fusions of R&B, left-field pop and melodic hip-hop. Ablaze with high-resolution video walls, the set began with a striking flourish: the singer perched on a high diving board against a vast blue seascape, recreating the sleeve photo from her 2022 album SOS, an image which was itself based on a famous paparazzi snap of Princess Diana taken shortly before she died.

Stage and screens then reconfigured themselves into a harbourside jetty, complete with mountain backdrop and lustrous golden sunset, where the singer performed a fast-moving run of numbers including the stuttering, sultry trip-hop ballads Seek & Destroy and Golden Clocks.

But the centrepiece of this production was a full-sized boat, perched atop a gently undulating digital ocean. This mid-section featured a rich line-up of SZA bangers, including her Grammy-winning Kendrick Lamar duet All The Stars, the sky-punching soft-rocker F2F, wistful misfit lament Normal Girl, and the confessional low self-esteem weepie Drew Barrymore, whose vulnerable lyric drew huge cheers of empathy from the O2’s mostly adolescent female audience. “I’m sorry I’m not more attractive,” the singer cooed, “I’m sorry I don’t shave my legs at night...”

SZA The SOS North American Tour Opener - Columbus, Ohio

Pushing the Moby-Dick melodrama to the max, this show’s latter half featured a thunderstorm, a shipwreck and a gravity-defying inflatable lifeboat, in which SZA soared over the O2 crowd. This was a magical stunt, though the syrupy songs in this chapter did drag a little, partly because the normally hyperactive diva was somewhat limited by being trapped in a floating orange dinghy.

Concluding with Hollywood-style end titles and a bulging credits list, this was a frequently stunning widescreen arena-pop blockbuster on a par with tours by premiere league heavyweights like Beyoncé, Madonna or SZA’s managerial stablemate Lamar. Any minor faults lay mainly in pacing and tone. At times the presentation was arguably overstuffed with quick-change ideas, leaving scant room for the singer’s more subtle, relatable, conversational side to shine through. Sense-swamping cinematic spectacle can be a little draining.

That said, the finale featured some superlative set-pieces, notably the deceptively cheery sing-along bloodbath revenge single Kill Bill, accompanied by darkly funny visuals to match its Tarantino-homage title. “I just killed my ex, not the best idea,” SZA beamed as 20,000 fans sang along. Just one of many delicious highlights in this hugely imaginative, ocean liner-sized show.

SZA: ‘Literally no one knows what they are talking about’

As she’s announced as quay’s latest ambassador, the artist talks karma, protecting her energy, and why she’s got really ‘into soil’.

QUAY_HIGHPROFILE_ESPRESSO_BROWN_SZA_0443

On the day I speak to SZA , she has just left New Zealand – her “favourite place in the world” – and arrived in Brisbane, Australia. Despite being ill and on her 14th month of touring, she is open, amiable and seemingly grateful to still be on the road.

Over the past decade, SZA has gone from an idealistic singer on Soundcloud to one of the most streamed artists in the world. Born Solana Imani Rowe, she emerged on the scene with her first mixtape See.SZA.Run in 2012, but her debut studio album CTRL solidified her position as one of her generation’s most prominent talents – and a figurehead of fellow Tumblr-raised, spiritually functional individuals far and wide.

Her second studio album SOS, released at the end of 2022, has broken multiple records – including becoming one of the longest-running number-one albums of the decade, and having the largest first streaming week of any ‘R&B’ album in the US. While it was widely anticipated, the reception was unexpected for her. “I could have never anticipated that,” she says, sounding genuinely surprised. “I’m super grateful that it went over well and not negatively. But in no way would I have ever been able to think about that or imagine that.”

Mitski – Summer 2016

Now adding another accolade to her repertoire, as of today, May 1, she is the new face of Australian sunglasses brand Quay. Aptly entitled ‘Sides of SZA’, her guest edit features eight different sunglasses that reflect different aspects of her personality. The shades (including her own favourite, the gold-framed ‘ON SET’) all reflect her eclectic and playful style. “Our brand was born in the music festival scene, so we are intrinsically connected to music. Collaborating with a unique talent like SZA was an undeniable and natural expression of the brand,” explains David Adamson of Quay. “SZA brings a level of creativity and a signature style to everything she touches. This edit is no exception.”

Below we spoke to SZA about this new partnership, how she protects her energy, and why she would never want to see the world through anyone else’s eyes.

Quay is ‘rooted in self-expression’. How do you feel the way you’ve expressed yourself has changed over the years?

SZA: I feel like self-expression is supposed to change and morph. I find that now I am more childlike and playful than I was in maybe that middle section [of my career], where I kind of lost myself and started caring so much about what people thought. I forgot that no one knows what they are talking about – literally no one. Even if you study a topic for 20 years, you’re studying the thoughts of other people. It’s collective ideology, no one knows for sure what’s happening, and there’s so much comfort in that. You might as well just do what you want and relax.

One of the frames is called ‘Karma’. I know you’re big into spirituality – do you believe in karma?

SZA: I do. I think there’s the commercial version of what people think karma is, which is cause and effect, but [I also think] karma is more about the amount of energy you accrue over a lifetime. It’s all the stories that have happened to you, all the good and bad things that become the building blocks of you. [We release] baggage over and over, for the rest of our lives. Also in the Hollywood sense, I believe in checks and balances, where choices yield specific outcomes. [But also] karma in terms of shedding karma, like shedding your fears or harmful traumas that have happened to you.

One of my favourite lines on “Saturn” is ' if karma's really real, how am I still here?'

SZA: Exactly. That’s the checks and balances version. We’re all so imperfect and we’re all so flawed, we’re constantly shedding and acquiring new karma.

You’re a Scorpio with a Pisces moon, which supposedly means you’re very empathetic and in tune with other people’s energies. How do you protect your own energy and keep your peace?

SZA: I just try to acknowledge what I’m feeling. If I’m feeling overstimulated, I’m still learning how to distance myself. I also make white baths for myself, and pray and meditate twice a day – I try to go before and after my show. Then just dialogue, literally talking to myself and being like, I wonder what this thing is that I feel? I try to check in with myself and see if that is coming from me, or if it’s coming from [another] person.

The Quay edit is called ‘Sides of Sza’. Generally, you’re known as an ‘R&B artist’ but sonically you’ve not been fixed to one genre. How would you define your own sound? What does your music sound like to you?

SZA: The only reason I’m defined as an R&B artist is because I’m Black. It’s almost a little reductive because it doesn’t allow space to be anything else or try anything else. Justin Bieber is not considered an R&B artist; he is a pop artist who makes R&B, folk music, or whatever his heart desires. I simply just want to be allowed the same opportunity to make whatever I want without a label, [without it being] based on the colour of my skin, or the crew that I run with, or the beats that I choose. I want “ F2F ” to be seen as what it is. I want “ Nobody Gets Me ” to be seen as what it is. I want “ Kill Bill ” to be seen as what it is.

At the same time, it’s nothing to get bent out of shape about, because it’s just how people are processing you. As long as I don’t process myself that way. I don’t necessarily box myself into anything. I’m just trying to make music, trying to vibe out and enjoy the experience.

“The only reason I’m defined as an R&B artist is because I’m Black. It’s almost a little reductive” – SZA

I often think that with up-and-coming Black female musicians who are quickly labelled as ‘ R&B’. I’m like, are you sure? Have we delved into this body of work, or are we just giving it a label for the sake of giving it a label?

SZA: It’s so strange! Once we’re dead and gone, there will still be work to do in terms of how we’re seen in the world as Black women, and who we are allowed to be seen as – the multifacetedness and all our spectrums of expression. I think humanity will be constantly unfolding itself, and we will be showing each other who we are beyond the reductive labels our brains are regurgitating, from whatever we saw on the internet or learned in college or at home through socialisation. We’ll get beyond that, and that’s just part of being human. I’m down to be human.

You also play with your style a lot – I love tracing a SZA era through your wigs. How did you get to a place where you felt comfortable expressing the different versions of yourself?

SZA: I just love switching up how I feel. I swear sometimes I know this is who I am, this is my uniform. And then it’ll be something completely different a week later, and I’ll be like ‘why did I even want that wig? Straight hair only for the rest of the month!’ It’s silly but it’s so fun. I feel bad for anybody who can’t throw those on. I suggest everybody get a host of wigs. It’s very freeing.

QUAY_HIGHPROFILE_ESPRESSO_BROWN_SZA_0443

You said that you hope fans feel empowered wearing the collection. When do you feel the most confident?

SZA: When I have autonomy over myself, my environment, my interactions and my energy. When I feel like I can decide who and where I want to share my energy with. Sometimes, even glasses are a part of that. It’s a protective element. Sometimes we want to just disappear. I feel like empowerment means different things to different people. I feel empowered both when I have maximum privacy and silence, and when I’m safely in a corner with my glasses on. I get to observe. There are so many versions, it’s not always a ‘look at me’ that makes somebody empowered. Sometimes it’s ‘I'm looking at y’all’.

If you could see the world through one person’s eyes, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

SZA: I don’t know if I want to see the world through anyone’s eyes. I don’t want to feel the suffering through someone else’s eyes. Everyone suffers in their own way, right? I feel like we’re not really supposed to walk in other people’s shoes. We’re supposed to acclimate to our own shoes, and I’m just now understanding that. I used to wish I was somebody else for so long. But I don’t know if I can handle anybody else’s shoes or eyes. But I definitely admire everybody’s vision.

What excites you most about the future right now? You’ve been speaking recently about the fact that you’re big into agriculture right now. I can imagine a SZA farmhouse, where you’re greeted by the world’s biggest selenite crystal on arrival.

SZA: No, literally. I think everything excites me right now. Even the fear of the future is exciting. I guess genuinely not knowing what is next – I have no idea where I’m headed. I’m just excited about the edge of discovery. The unknown is inherently exciting these days.

I’m trying to follow my heart, and what my heart wants is to learn more about building a community, mutual aid, vegetables and shipping. I’m really into volcanic soil right now. If you look at the vegetables and the people that grow in places which have volcanic soil – like New Zealand and Hawaii – they are insane. They’re just beautiful and incredibly healthy. So I just really think there’s something to be said about volcanic soil. I want to find a way to duplicate that energy and those nutrients. I feel like that would be so beneficial, because soil is the basis of all of our humanity and our health. So I guess I’m into soil! I’m excited just to explore and see what’s the tea, see what I can learn.

Singer SZA almost leaves stage after calling out crowd over ‘disgusting’ behaviour during concert

Singer SZA almost leaves stage after calling out crowd over ‘disgusting’ behaviour during concert

Sza angrily told fans, "i'm a person" during her show at melbourne's rod laver arena.

Kya Buller

Grammy-winning artist SZA ended up telling fans, "I will leave" after she'd had enough of their disruptive behaviour during a gig in Melbourne.

SZA, born Solána Imani Rowe, is an American artist who has collaborated with stars such as Doja Cat , Post Malone and Travis Scott.

She's currently in the middle of touring her 2022 album SOS .

For many people, myself included, seeing SZA perform is a bucket-list wish.

Most of the footage shared by those lucky enough to be in attendance has shown SZA performing all of her well-loved hits, with the crowd singing along in unison and awe.

SZA threatened to leave during a gig in Melbourne due to fans' unruly behaviour (Instagram/@sza)

However, it seems that some people seem intent on ruining it for others.

On Tuesday (30 April), SZA played the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and the beloved star almost left the stage following a spate of unacceptable behaviour from attendees.

Eventually, she was forced to address the crowd directly.

It has been reported that shoes and mobile phones were thrown at SZA, prompting her to stress: "I will leave."

She continued: "Do not throw up any cell phones, I'm a person. That's crazy."

SZA was understandably not happy (TikTok/@rice1147858)

Security guards had to attend to one concert-goer who was involved in an altercation in the crowd.

And another instance of disruption included somebody attempting to do a handstand in the steep seating area.

They then lost their balance and fell onto another person.

One fan shared a video to TikTok following the show, writing: "Sad to see that Melbourne will forever be SZA's least favourite destination due to pitiful behaviour from some people in the crowd.

"The overwhelming posters, selfish 'pick me' flyers, ridiculous attention seeking activity.

"Solana, u killed it though."

One person commented: "She literally asked to stop throwing stuff at her AND PPL KEPT DOING IT? They call themselves 'fans' but still disrespect her like that."

Another person said: "I completely agree! I saw girls next to me so upset that she wasn’t picking people to go backstage with her after the show, but everyone was so selfish and were literally throwing shoes at her to sign."

A third added: "When she said 'I’m a person!'" followed by crying emojis.

The video creator responded: "I wanted to cry :/ if I were her I would've walked off ngl the moment people started throwing s**t."

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

Sunnier days are upon us, and SZA wants to make sure your shade game is on point. The “Kill Bill” singer teamed up with Quay Australia to pick out some of her favorite sunglasses for spring, she revealed Wednesday (May 2) on Instagram.

“Did a little edit thingy with by besties at Quay eyewear,” she captioned a video modeling sunglasses from the collection of styles ranging from $65-$110 . The SZA edit includes limited-edition sunglasses .

The Grammy winner opened up about the collaboration in an interview with Nylon . “I just picked what I would generally wear,” she said of choosing her favorite styles. “My mom always told me that wearing sunglasses blocks people from seeing your energy and from connecting with you. I didn’t grow up wearing a lot of them, but now they’re so fun. I’m learning how to accessorize them, how to add them to my personality. I tried to basically pick ones I would generally wear.”

Her favorite Quay sunnies are the On Set visor sunglasses . “They’re so cute. I [also] feel like a classic Inspector Gadget, like a slim, black pair, that’s another great shape where I feel it’s fire for day and night. You can go formal, to secretive, to secret agent, to also sexy. It’s divine.”

SZA will have plenty of chances to show off her favorite Quay shades. After taking her SOS Tour to Australia and New Zealand last month, SZA is back Stateside to take the stage at Sol Blume Music Festival in Sacramento, Calif., on May 5.

She’s also billed to co-headline Jack Harlow’s Gazebo Festival held later this month, Governors Ball next month and Lollapalooza in August. Get tickets here .

Kenyan tour guide rescues 14 tourists after devastating floods

Kenyan tour guide rescues 14 tourists after devastating floods in Maasai Mara Facebook

A Kenyan tour guide helped rescue 14 tourists and 25 staff after major flooding hit their camp in Maasai Mara national reserve.

The group, including three British travellers, were staying at Talek Bush Camp when rising flood water put them in danger.

Tour guide James Apolloh Omenya, 27, sprung into action and led them to a higher platform, where they were later picked up by the Kenyan Red Cross.

Torrential rains have caused widespread flooding and landslides across the East African nation since the rainy season begun in March, killing at least 210 people and causing widespread damage.

James was asleep in his tent when his driver woke him up at around 1.20am to warn him about heavy rain and flooding, reports Sky News.

‘When I woke up our tent was literally floating,’ he said.

‘We stepped out of the tent and after a short while the water was reaching up to our waists.’

He woke them up and moved them to elevated water tanks as their camp was surrounded by flood waters. That hero is just 27 - James Apolloh Omenya @birding_with_apolloh. When I spoke to him, the first thing he did was to shout out his driver and tentmate Michael Mureithi who helped him lead everyone. He even swam to save the life of someone else who was trapped in flood waters where a chopper could not fly Facebook

Realising the group could be in danger, he woke everyone up and initially took them to a room that was safer.

But with the water level rising, James feared the room may also soon be flooded and that they needed to find somewhere higher.

He said: ‘In the camp there are concrete water tankers that are about 27ft (8.2m) above the ground on a platform – so I went and got a ladder and moved it up next to the tank.’

From here the group was rescued by the Kenya Red Cross at around 10.40am on Wednesday.

Some of the tourists were flown to Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, while a few decided to remain in Maasai Mara in the hope of finishing their trip.

Looking back on the rescue, James said it was important to stay calm and put people’s safety first.

CNN reporter Larry Madowo wrote on Instagram that the tour guide also swam to save the life of another who had been trapped by flood water and couldn’t be reached by a helicopter.

Speaking on Friday, Kenyan president William Ruto said the flooding across the country is expected to get even worse.

‘Sadly, we have not seen the last of this perilous period, as the situation is expected to escalate. Meteorological reports paint a dire picture,’ Ruto said on Kenyan television.

‘Kenya may face its first-ever cyclone.’

Cyclone Hidaya is expected hit Tanzania, Kenya’s southern neighbour, on Saturday, bringing with it waves almost eight metres high (26 feet) and 165kph winds (100mph), according to the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre.

Floods have killed more than 160 people in Tanzania since the beginning of April.

‘This cyclone, named Hidaya, that could hit anytime now, is predicted to cause torrential rain, strong winds and powerful and dangerous waves,’ Ruto said.

The US has also been hit by extreme weather , with numerous tornadoes plowing through Texas.

Billie Eilish has announced a new tour and will be coming to the UK next summer.

The 22-year year old 's show is named after her latest album - Hit Me Hard And Soft - and will kick off in North America in September.

It will then head to Australia in February 2025, before travelling across Europe and arriving in the UK on 7 July when she will perform for two nights in Glasgow, at OVO Hydro.

Eilish will then play six nights at the O2 in London, and four nights at the new Co-Op Live arena in Manchester - a venue that has been beset with problems as it prepares to open to the public.

The singer will then play two gigs in Dublin, Ireland, at the 3Arena.

A vocal environmentalist, fans are being encouraged to take "sustainable transport" during the tour, which will also feature "eco-villages" and encourage plant-based food options.

The tour will partner with the plant-based food organisation Support + Feed - an initiative founded by Eilish's mother Maggie Baird - and environmental non-profit organisation REVERB.

Eilish's third studio album comes out on 17 May, a month after Taylor Swift 's much lauded album The Tortured Poets Department .

Like Swift, Eilish is encouraging fans to listen to the collection as a whole, saying on her website that the new body of work should be listened to chronologically as it "hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically, while bending genres and defying trends along the way".

She's not released any singles in advance, encouraging fans to listen "in one go".

The album cover features Eilish on her back under dark water with a white door open above her.

Eilish's last album was 2021's Happier Than Ever, and her debut record When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was released in 2019.

The youngest person ever to have won two Oscars, she took home the award for best original song Oscar gong for Barbie's What Was I Made For? in March, and won the same prize for James Bond's No Time To Die in 2022.

Tickets for Hit Me Hard And Soft go on general sale on Friday.
