Thailand Tours & Vacations

Two women talking with their guide next to the buddhas at the WatPho temple

Thailand is an idyllic paradise, where jungle-covered karsts plunge into aquamarine waters and the sand is sugar white.

But no matter how clichéd the fantasy, Thailand delivers in spades. The water around Krabi and Ko Tao really is that deep, cool shade of blue. Phi Phi’s limestone karsts really do look like some alien world. And the food? Let’s just say your local Pad Thai has nothing on Chiang Mai’s street stalls or the floating markets of Amphawa, where little old ladies do things with fish sauce and chili you never thought possible. From the waterfalls of Erawan to a homestay with the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle, these adventures go beyond the tourist traps. Buckle up.

Best time to visit thailand.

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid, and at times (like other South East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's mainland region is great to visit from November to February when the weather is cooler and dryer.

If you are planning on visiting the Gulf Coast (east), avoid the northeast monsoon that brings rain from October to January. For destinations like Phuket on the west side of the peninsula, the best time is November to April to avoid the other monsoon which causes Thailand's wet season from May to October.

Culture and customs

Often considered the epicenter of Buddhism, religion permeates daily life in Thailand. Sprinkled throughout the country are thousands of golden temples, where you’ll find Buddhist monks in orange robes walking the streets. Young men are expected to spend some time as a monk as it bestows honor on their families. Visitors should be respectful of monks and dress modestly when visiting a temple (cover your knees and shoulders and remove your shoes).

Like other Asian nations, the concept of ‘saving face’ is important. This means avoiding conflict or embarrassment in order to preserve social standing, dignity, and honor. Thai people will go out of their way to avoid ‘losing face’. Losing your temper or raising your voice are surefire ways to lose face and can be perceived as volatile or rude.

Eating and drinking

Thai food has everything from spicy dishes packed with chilis to milder coconut-based curries. With street stalls and night markets all over the country, it's really easy to pick up a snack wherever you are in Thailand. On many Intrepid trips, you'll be given the opportunity to have dinner with a local family – this offers a great chance to see how meals are prepared and learn more about the local culture. Go a step further on our 8-day Thailand Read Food Adventure to watch, eat, prepare, and present tasty and traditional Thai cuisine.

Things to try in Thailand

1. Pad Thai (Phat Thai)

A well-known dish but for good reason. This delicious plate of stir-fried rice noodles garnished with peanuts is full of flavor and can be served with fresh prawns, chicken, tofu, or vegetables.

2. Tom Yum (Tom Yam)

Usually prepared with stock, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili, this soup is widely available in Thailand and has been popularised around the world.

3. Green curry

One of many curries that Thais do so well. Green curry consists of chicken, Thai eggplant, and chilies bathed in a coconut milk-based sauce.

4. Som tam (green papaya salad)

This northern dish of shredded raw papaya, cherry tomatoes, and green beans is a tantalizing mix of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.

5. Coconut water

For a super fresh thirst quencher, try coconut water straight from the husk.

6. Tropical fruit

Fruit shakes and fresh fruit juices are widely available from markets and restaurants – make the most of all the tropical fruits of Thailand.

Geography and environment

Sharing borders with South East Asian neighbors  Cambodia ,   Laos ,   Malaysia   , and   Myanmar   (Burma), Thailand's natural environment varies greatly from region to region. From the steamy jungles and misty highlands in the north to the white sand beaches and picturesque islands of the south, Thailand's everchanging landscape has been fascinating and entertaining travelers for centuries.

The capital, Bangkok, is a heaving, urban jungle with skyscrapers, street vendors, markets, cars, tuk-tuks, bicycles, and masses of people all competing for space. Despite this, there are pockets of quiet beauty to be found with parks, temples, and traditional shop fronts scattered throughout the city.

Rural areas in the north are typically quieter, with locals living a more traditional way of life; the frenetic pace of the city giving way to a more slow-paced, agricultural-based lifestyle. Houses are simple, there's more space and less of the modern conveniences. Jungles, rivers, bamboo huts, and teak houses are more commonly seen here, and birds and other animal life are more abundant.

History and government

Early history.

Communities based on agriculture (such as rice growing) inhabited Siam (Thailand) as early as the 6th century. In the following centuries, Siam came under the influence of the Khmer, Dvaravati, and Malay cultures, with some temples and monuments in modern-day Thailand showing evidence of this influence. In the 13th century, the city of Sukhothai in northern Thailand became an important capital. The ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) feature remnants of the royal palace, temples, and other buildings and highlight the artistic and architectural features of the era.

Ayutthaya rose to prominence as the new capital in the 14th century and was considered a powerhouse of South East Asia as one of the most important centers of trade in the world. Enduring many battles, invasions, overthrows, and coups, Ayutthaya's far-reaching trade with other regions ensured a flourishing influence of art, weaponry, religion, and cuisine. Much wealth was generated by this enormous empire, with grand palaces, ornate buildings, and huge temples featured throughout the city. All this came to an end when the Burmese invaded in the 18th century, bringing the kingdom to ruin and resulting in the loss of many artistic and cultural treasures. Despite this, the ruins of the city are still standing, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and are a great day trip from Bangkok. See the sights of ancient and recent Thai history during a 3 day River Kwai and Ancient Thai Kingdoms tour.

Recent history

Thonburi was established as the capital of Siam by General Taksin in the late 18th century, yet this didn't last long with Taksim being deposed and executed not long after. Bangkok was then named capital by General Chakri, who became Rama I - the first king of the Rama Dynasty.

Over the years, Siam (Thailand) remained the only South East Asian country to remain free from European colonization. In 1932, the Siamese Revolution resulted in a constitutional monarchy being formed, and in 1941, Thailand invaded French Indochina, overpowered the French, and claimed Laos.

In the last thirty years, Thailand has seen political power change hands many times, often due to coups, revolutions, and protests. Despite this, Thailand’s economy continues to grow due to its strong tourist industry. Enduring all this, the much-loved King Rama IX has reigned as the Head of State since 1946 - claiming the title of the longest-reigning monarch in the world and providing Thai people with a stable figure to rely upon.

Top 10 iconic Thai landscapes

6. Sukhothai

This former capital is a history buff's heaven. Nicknamed the 'Dawn of Happiness', Sukhothai still recalls Siam's golden age with its superb statues, marvelous monuments, and lotus flowers in full bloom. A trip to the night market is a real eye-opener; try everything from fried rice to fried bugs.

Stop by Sukhothai on our 8 day Explore Northern Thailand adventure.

The waters surrounding Krabi are dotted with hundreds of limestone karst islands. Kayakers and rock climbers will love exploring them, while others can travel to the nearby floating villages or just relax on one of the region's perfect beaches.

We've made sure to stop by Krabi on our incredible 28 day Bangkok to Bali adventure - you'll thank us later.

Phang Nga Bay is perhaps one of Thailand's most recognizable gems. Kayak around the green waters, admiring the sheer limestone karsts that jut dramatically out of the sea.

Coast through the must-see sights of Phang Nga Bay on our 8 day Phuket Sailing Adventure.

Bustling street markets filled with colorful vendors selling an assortment of goods can be found in small villages and large towns throughout the country. Luxurious, multi-level shopping malls that rival those in European cities are increasingly popping up.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is perhaps the largest and most extensive market in the world. Here vendors sell everything you can think of, from ceramics to Thai silk to vintage clothing. Bartering is expected at markets and most small vendors. As a rule of thumb, if the price isn’t listed, it’s negotiable. But remember, Thais appreciate friendliness and a sense of humor. The more aggressive you are in trying to get a deal, the less likely you are to get one.

Things to buy in Thailand

  • Vibrant fabric cushions, tablecloths, and hammocks
  • Silver jewelry (look for reputable stores)
  • Handcrafted umbrellas or parasols
  • Thai silk scarves, ties, wraps, and clothing
  • Colorful Celadon ceramics
  • Tailor-made clothing

Festival and events

Loy krathong (festival of lights).

During the 12th lunar month, people across the country gather around lakes, rivers, and canals to symbolically let their worries float away in the most magical way – by releasing colorful lotus-shaped rafts holding candles, incense, and flowers onto the water.

Yee Peng (or Yi Peng)

At the same time that Loy Krathong is taking place, Chiang Mai also celebrates Yee Peng. Religious events, cultural activities, and street parades all mark this Buddhist tradition. But what makes this festival truly spectacular is the release of thousands of sky lanterns that illuminate the sky.

Songkran (Thai New Year)

What happens when New Year’s Day falls during the height of summer? It morphs into a giant water fight. Some towns celebrate just on the day (April 13), while others stretch it out for several days of concerts, ceremonies, and other wet festivities.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

Flowers are used in ways you never thought imaginable at this colorful three-day event in February. Come for the parade of impressive floral floats, and stay for the tasty Thai street food, music, and performances.

Is Thailand a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

As a whole, Thailand is a hassle-free destination for LGBTQI travelers. Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket all have fairly prominent gay scenes. Be aware that Thais typically do not engage in public displays of affection, regardless of sexual orientation.

What's the transport like in Thailand?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators, and are more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in Thailand, you may find yourself traveling by Songthaew.

Get to know the locals as you share a ride in these converted pick-up trucks. Snagging a seat on the ‘two benches’ (the literal meaning of songthaew) is a popular way of getting around South East Asia.

See Thailand from the ground level on a Saamlaw, the three-wheeled wonder. Sometimes motorized but usually pedal-powered by a local, it’s a fun way to get from A to B or see a new city's sights.

What's the accommodation like in Thailand?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodations as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Thailand you may find yourself staying in a Homestay.

Experience friendly Thai hospitality while staying with a local family living a traditional way of life. Make new friends, pick up some local lingo and leave smiling.

The ultimate room with a view - spend the night on a floating bamboo raft house. Enjoy the seclusion, soak up the serenity and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does my trip to Thailand support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Thailand directly support our foundation partner, EcoThailand Foundation .

EcoThailand Foundation is on a mission to educate and empower local communities, on the tourist Islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Paluay, about environmental issues like climate change, waste management, nature appreciation, conservation and sustainable lifestyles. Donations from our trips help EcoThailand's environmental guardianship education program for children in local state schools.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

More information about Thailand

A vacation to   Thailand  is one of the most popular travel experiences in  Southeast Asia . The country continues to attract the public thanks to its fantastic mix of spectacular beaches, temples, delicious cuisine, a variety of activities and its cheerful locals. Located in the center of  Southeast Asia , on the  Indochina Peninsula , the Kingdom of  Thailand  is a dazzling treasure of the East. Its shares a border on to the east with  Laos , on the southeast with  Cambodia  and the  Gulf of Thailand , on the south with  Malaysia  and on the west with  Myanmar  and the  Andaman Sea.

Its  69 million  inhabitants are distributed along  1770 kilometers  from north to south and  805 kilometers  from east to west in  76 provinces , which have the same name as their corresponding capital cities.  Bangkok  is the most populated and has the highest population density. On a  tour of   Thailand , you will be amazed by the kindness of its inhabitants; it has even been granted the nickname of ‘ The Land of Smiles’.

The most mountainous area can be found close to the border with  Myanmar  and the highest peak is the  Doi Inthanon  at  2595 meters  and is located to the north, in the province of  Chiang Mai.  Its two main river systems are the  Chao Phraya,  which provides drainage for 35% of the country and runs through the heart of  Bangkok  and the  Mekong River , which serves as a natural border with  Myanmar  and  Laos  in the famous  Golden Triangle.

Thailand  enjoys a humid  tropical climate  with temperatures ranging between  15  and  35   degrees Celsius.  The monsoon season runs from  June  to  October , and the coolest months are from  November  to  February.   The remainder of the year is delightfully warm.

Nature in Thailand

Thailand  has a varied landscape, ranging from woodland to tropical mangroves, in the form of forests and jungles, which covers  25%  of the country and which together with the plateau, exhibits exuberant specimens of mangroves, Indian reeds, ebony, teak, oak , pines, bamboos, palms, ratans, lianas, fruit trees such as coconuts, mangoes and bananas and up to  27,000  species of plants and flowers such as fistula,  orchids , hibiscus or gardenias.

The more than  100 national parks  have a fundamental role in the protection of the  313  species of  reptiles ,  107  of  amphibians ,  900  of  birds  and  300  species of  mammals  that can be found in the country, such as elephants, tigers, monkeys, leopards, wild oxen, buffalos, tapirs, snakes and crocodiles.  Thailand  also has exceptionally rich marine life including reef fish, sea cow, crossbow fish, whale shark, and giant spider crabs, ensuring scuba diving is one of the most common activities for visitors on a  trip to Thailand.

Economy in Thailand

The Thai economy is supported by agriculture, rice cultivation, duck, pig, ox and cow farming and fishing in the  Andaman Sea ,  Gulf of Thailand  and the  Mekong River . Being one of the ten most visited countries in the world, tourism represents one of the main sources of income and has produced many job opportunities for its inhabitants.

It is a very well connected country and has a large transport network, so it is an easy country in which to enjoy a tour. It has  25 airports  and many international airlines land in  Bangkok , one of the most important airports in Asia. It has an extensive network of roads that move buses, minivans, cars, and motorcycles; the railways connect the most important cities of the country; A large number of private ferry companies connect the many islands and the best options to get around the capital's streets are the subway, the metro, the taxi or on a traditional tuk-tuk.

Religion in Thailand

75% of  Thailand’s  inhabitants belong to the  Que Tai  and  Lao  ethnic groups, the vast Chinese community represents about 15% of the population and the remainder of the country’s inhabitants are either  Malays, Mon, Khmer  and indigenous tribes from the highlands.

95% of the population follows the  Buddhist   Theravada  school of belief, 4% are  Muslim  and the remaining 1% identify as either  Hindu, Christian, Confucian  or  Taoist.  Thai men usually enter temporarily into a monastery for about three months after finishing their university studies. In the time they are there, they are novice monks and they can decide freely when to leave it. The reason why they do this is to cleanse their mind, earn merit and honor their parents.

History of Thailand

A  package holiday to Thailand  will undoubtedly bring you face-to-face with the living monuments of the country’s vast history. The oldest archaeological site in  Thailand  dates from  3600 BC  but the founding of the nation was established in  1238  with the  Kingdom of Sukhothai  until  1365  when it was replaced by the  Kingdom of Ayutthaya.  After the fall of this kingdom in  1767,  at the hands of the Burmese when the capital was devastated and burned, it was moved to  Thonburi  under the mandate of  King Taksin the Great.  In  1782  the reign of  Siam  passed to the  Chakri dynasty  with  Rama I,  who declared  Bangkok  the new capital.

The absolute monarchy of  Rama VII  became constitutional as a result of the coup d'état of  1932 . During the  Second World War ,  Thailand  was allied with  Japan , but during the final stages of the war, it unified with the  United States . In  1946 Rama IX  came to the throne and in  1949 ,  Siam  changed its name to  Thailand . After 17 violent attempts to seize political power and years of political instability, in  2014  the army staged a new coup d'etat. In  2016  the beloved king died, putting an end to the most enduring reign in the world. After seven decades of rule, the king was succeeded by his son  Rama  who found himself under a military dictatorship. Despite the attempts, it is the only  Southeast Asian  country that has  never been colonized  by a European power.

Culture and Traditions in Thailand

The Thais have had a centuries-long special relationship with  elephants , or  ‘chang’ , as they call them. These immense and beautiful creatures have been a fundamental part of the culture and appeared on the national flag until  1917 . Throughout history, these noble animals have been domesticated and have assisted in the construction, transport, and warfare. The importance and admiration for them are also reflected in  Buddhist  and  Hindu  beliefs and mythological legends giving them a mystical power and making them bearers of good luck. They are a true symbol for the country.

It is true that  elephants  in  Thailand  have also been the object of abuse, ill-treatment, and illegal trade, but fortunately, there are institutions that ethically rescue, care for, treat and feed them.

The picturesque  floating markets  are another of the Thai traditions and an essential visit on a  holiday to Thailand . A universe of canals, canoes, and houses on stilts, these floating markets are a unique insight into the daily lives of the locals as they buy and sell fruits, vegetables, crafts, and freshly cooked dishes.

Thai boxing or  ‘Muay Thai’  is a popular martial art and is considered a national sport. In the  Kingdom of Sukhothai , it was part of the military training of the soldiers.

Thai massages  are another hallmark of the country and follow an ancient philosophy. The technique was created  2,500  years ago by  Dr. Shivago , Buddha's physician, in which he combined different Asian techniques,  Ayurvedic  principles, and  yoga postures . You cannot fully experience a  tour of Thailand  without enjoying one of these wonderful massages. The technique consists of strong pressure and stretches in which the therapist uses their hands, fists, elbows, knees, feet, arms and legs in order for the recipient to achieve  physical, mental and emotional balance . There are countless massage parlors throughout the country and the prices are very cheap.

Embarking on a comprehensive  tour of Thailand  takes visitors through a fascinating and varied territory with a vast history to discover a country that will surprise you with its unique landscapes and variety of traditions. The country is a heavyweight in tourism and it is well deserved. Everyone wants to go and discover the country for themselves and whoever has visited always wants to return to explore further.

Why is Thailand the most popular destination in Asia?

The answer is simple; because it has everything; a rich historical heritage, the fruit of the kingdoms of Siam and Lanna; ancestral traditions and rigorous customs; a sublime artistic legacy that is reflected in the delicacy and beauty of its temples; captivating cities, well connected to each other; a bustling capital city; a dreamlike landscape that stretches from the lush mountain forests of the north to the idyllic islands of the south with magnificent beaches of fine sand and warm crystalline waters; national parks and nature reserves full of exotic wildlife, frantic cities and quiet rural areas, a delicious aromatic cuisine, a warm climate, accommodations of all kinds and for all budgets, virgin landscapes in which to practice sports such as hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, cycling, sailing or rafting, a lively nightlife and a mystical and spiritual environment; numerous modern shopping centers and street markets, an infrastructure prepared for tourism and affordable prices; and the most important thing, kind and friendly locals who always greet visitors with an unbreakable smile, infecting you with their infinite joy and their caring, tolerant and educated attitude, perhaps the fruit of  Buddhist  teachings. Hence the Thai proverb,  ‘do good and receive good, do evil and receive evil’.

A  holiday to Thailand  means entering into the deepest and warmest of Asian traditions. Its millenarian culture is a reference point and attracts, like a magnet, the western tourist who seeks traveler enrichment and open-mindedness. The capital,  Bangkok , is a bustling and extensive city, with a cultural treasure that deserves to be given time before leaving for one of the more than one hundred  tropical islands  that are distributed between the  Gulf of Thailand  or the  Andaman Sea , always a highlight in  all-inclusive trips to Thailand . On these islands, you can find young people in search of nightlife and also those who seek silence or solely the whisper of the waves. And for the most restless, the north of the country offers all the possibilities and the mystery of the jungle in the  Golden Triangle of Thailand.

Thailand  is a land of freedom. When you step foot in the country it seduces you with what you see, hear, taste, smell and feel. That's why traveling to Thailand means immersing yourself in an unbeatable cocktail of floating markets and tuk-tuks, pad thai and tropical fruits, waterfalls and lakes, skyscrapers and houseboats, lanterns illuminating the night sky, sun and rain, sea and mountains, monks with saffron robes and Buddhist rituals, rivers and forests, flowers and offerings, caves and coral reefs, golden Buddhas and temples with pointed roofs.Thai’s are experts at making floral arrangements that they exhibit as ornamentation in their sacred places. Mythical  Thailand  is like a flower; delicate, colorful, aromatic, beautiful, wild, romantic and natural. Do not hesitate to explore; a magical trip awaits you.

Land of Smiles

There is certainly a lot to smile about when you vacation in Thailand. Here, the Old World meets something entirely new. From temples to markets to food to waterways to beaches to nightlife, there is something to please everyone. As Thailand – a constitutional monarchy – is the only country in Southeast Asia to not have been colonized by Europeans, its cultural identity remains largely intact. And the Thai people, among the friendliest in the world, love to share their country with visitors. The only question is what not to see!

Destination Must-See's

Thailand ms1

Bangkok, or the City of Angels, was founded in 1782 by King Rama I – first king of the present Chakri dynasty. It has come a long way in 235 years. It is the political, economic, cultural, culinary, and spiritual capital of Thailand, and one of the world’s most visited cities. With so much to offer, how does one prioritize? Start with its temples, such as Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Arun. For more culture, visit the Grand Palace and the National Museum.

Thailand ms2

Buddhist Temples:

Buddhist temples in Thailand are known as wats. There are more than 30,000 temples in Thailand – 400 functioning temples in Bangkok alone. Wat Pho in Bangkok is Thailand’s most sacred site, and home to the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This golden Buddha is 151 feet long and the largest in Thailand. Wat Phra Kaew, also in Bangkok, is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most sacred Buddha sculpture carved out of green jade. Bangkok’s Wat Arun, or the Temple of Dawn, has the tallest prang (tower) in Thailand – 220 feet high – decorated with bits of porcelain and seashells.

Thailand ms3

The Grand Palace:

The Grand Palace, located in Bangkok, is actually many buildings. King Rama I, founder of the Chakri dynasty, began construction of his royal palace in 1782, and it was used as a royal residence until 1925. Surrounded by four walls, it has a total area of 2,351,000 square feet. There are three main zones: the Outer Court (royal offices, public buildings, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha); the Middle Court (important residential and state buildings); and the Inner Court (exclusive to the King, Queen, and consorts). It is a must-see in Bangkok.

Thailand ms4

Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai:

In the north of Thailand there are two cities definitely worth a visit. Chiang Rai is the northernmost large city in Thailand. It was founded in 1262 as the second capital of the Lanna kingdom, after Chiang Saen. Some notable sites are temples such as the Wat Rong Khun Temple (the white temple); the Saturday Walking Street market and the Night Bazaar; and the Hill-Tribes Museum and Education Centre. Chiang Mai, or the “Rose of the North,” is Thailand’s northern capital. It succeeded Chiang Rai as the capital of the Lanna kingdom in 1296. Some notable sites here are Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most famous of the city’s 300 temples; and the Sunday Evening Walking Street market.

Destination Must-Do's

Thailand md1

Markets are a way of life for the Thai people, and they are popular with visitors as well. The Chatuchak Market in Bangkok has more than 8,000 shops on weekends. Vendors sell fruits and vegetables, clothes, pottery and ceramics, basketry, accessories, flowers, and even pets, among other things. The Silom district of Bangkok has all manner of shopping, from a mall to markets, including a night market. Night markets have a lively atmosphere. You can find local items here, along with food, drink and live music. They can get quite crowded. Floating markets emerged as a result of daily commerce being done along rivers and klongs (canals). Damnoen Saduak, outside Bangkok, is the most famous.

Thailand md2

Thai Cuisine:

Thai cuisine is a balance of five flavors: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy. Most people know of pad Thai, or fried noodles, but there are many other dishes to try. Tom Yam Goong is a spicy shrimp soup made with a broth of lemongrass, chillies, lime leaves and juice, and fish sauce. Tom Kha Kai is a spicy chicken soup with chillies and lemongrass in a coconut milk broth. Som Tam, or spicy green papaya salad, perfectly represents all five flavors. Kao Pad is fried rice with egg, onion, and herbs. Gaeng Keow Wan Kai is chicken in green curry – green curry paste stirred into hot coconut milk. And there is so much more! Most dishes are served with rice, a Thai staple. If you prefer to not have your mouth on fire, ask for “mai phed,” or not spicy.

Thailand md3

The waterways in Thailand have long been an integral part of life here. Bangkok was once called the “Venice of the East” because of its klongs, or canals. Many have been filled in, but there are still some that are used for floating markets. A long-tail boat, a lightweight vessel with narrow beams, high-pointed bows and a canopy, is used as a floating market “stand,” but visitors can take rides in these boats as well. Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River – “the River of Kings” – is the dividing line between the east and west of the city. And in the north of Thailand, the mighty Mekong River forms a border between Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, known as the Golden Triangle.

Thailand md4

Kanchanaburi:

The bridge that spans the River Kwai, subject of a famous book and 1957 film, is part of the infamous Death Railway in the Kanchanaburi province in western Thailand. The 258-mile railway, built by Allied prisoners of war and native laborers, served to connect Thailand and Myanmar by land so that the Imperial Japanese Army didn’t have to transport their supplies by sea. It is estimated that more than 100,000 POWs and laborers died during construction, hence the Death Railway name. Today, both the bridge and railway are symbols of peace. There are also two museums and a war memorial.

Thailand - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

The beaches make it worth visiting Thailand

Exotic, amazing, enchanting. Mere words cannot describe the joy of visiting one of the beautiful and exciting countries in Asia. The presence of numerous islands and two coastlines ensures a holiday in Thailand to be filled with various beaches. From crowded cosmopolitan beaches to secluded tropical getaways, you can really satiate your desires for the perfect beach holiday here.  Thailand is a country that has something for everyone. Whether you’re traveling alone, as a couple or with your family, a trip to Thailand will have all the right options to customize your itinerary and add attractions that suit your tastes and preferences.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary just outside Chiang Mai
  • Snorkel with the fish in Maya Bay
  • Take a boat ride from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands and Monkey Beach
  • Climb the 300 intricately carved steps to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple
  • Take in panoramic views from the seat of Big Buddha in Kron, Phuket
  • Float from vendor to vendor at Bangkok’ s floating markets
  • Swim beneath the waterfalls of Erawan National Park
  • Thailand’s glittery beaches are one of its biggest charms, but those golden temples are equally worthy of your time.

Travel Tips

  • The most fun way to get around Thailand is by tuk-tuk, which offers fantastic views along the way. Most of these open-air ‘taxis’ are blue and have three wheels, except for the red tuk-tuks of Phuket (some of which have sound systems and neon lights).
  • When visiting holy sites, be sure to bring a shawl so you can cover up your shoulders and knees. Also be prepared to remove your shoes before entering a temple or person’s home.
  • The most common greeting in Thailand is to bring your hands together in a prayer-like fashion and bow, accompanied with a “Sawatdee-kah” for males or a “Sawatdee-krap” for females. Be sure to return this gesture as a show of respect.
  • Thai people are extremely friendly and generous. Don’t be surprised if a local starts to strike up a random conversation, particularly in the markets.
  • Make your visit to Thailand is an ethical one. Research whether a tour company’s practices are socially responsible, particularly if visiting elephants or hill tribes.

Thailand has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Thailand before planning your tour.

Tours in Thailand - Questions and Answers

With a laid-back way of life and extraordinary cultural heritages, the shortest amount of time you should plan for any trip to Thailand is one week . In seven days, you can admire the golden pagodas of Bangkok and Ayutthaya, and choose to either kick back on the tropical beaches of the country’s south or head out to discover its northern tribal villages. However, if you were to ask us how long to spend in Thailand , we would recommend staying in the country for two weeks , since this gives you the chance to tick off most of the country’s bucket-list destinations at a leisurely pace. If you cannot make your stay last that long, then ten days make for a good compromise. If you're looking for the best Thailand tours and trips, you can find them here .

The best time to visit Thailand is between the months of November and March, which also coincides with the country’s high season. The weather is comparatively colder during this time of year, making it ideal to explore the country. If you want to avoid crowds, then make sure that you head for the country  in October. Please bear in mind that although the official monsoon season peaks in August and September, parts of the country continue receiving rainfall all through October, which puts most people off from visiting the country during this month. You can find more information here .

A western European or North American visitor to Thailand will find it one of the best countries in the world to visit on a budget . With street food and budget accommodation both keenly priced, USD 40 per person per day should cover accommodation and meal costs for frugal travelers. However, book organized tours and stay in middle to higher-range hotels and you will be looking at a daily budget of around USD 60 to USD 120 per person, per day. ATMs are widespread and operate exactly as they would at home – with English-language options.

Most western visitors do not require a visa to visit Thailand for a short term as tourists. Stays cannot be more than 30 days in one go and a total of 90 days within a six-month period. You will require a passport with at least six months remaining from your date of entry, alongside a return air ticket and proof that you have the equivalent of just over USD 600 to fund your stay. These details can be requested by customs officials on entry into the country.

The most widely spoken language in the country is Thai (Siamese), which also has its own alphabet. This can make it difficult for western travelers to communicate with the locals in the beginning. However, many Thai people also speak or understand a good amount of English, especially those living in large cities such as Bangkok, because of the language’s international importance. Few in the country expect visitors to speak any Thai, although any attempt to do so will bring smiles on the faces of those you are talking to.

The heart and soul of Thailand, Bangkok is an unmissable destination and makes for a logical first stop as it is also home to the country’s main international airport. Among the top things to do in Bangkok are visiting the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and exploring the royal palace in the city. Beach lovers will not want to miss a trip to Ko Samui and the Phi Phi Islands, while a tour to Chiang Mai is a must for anyone interested in history and culture. For ancient wonders, look no further than the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya . Head for Krabi if you are looking for a great mix of beach vibes and snorkeling adventures.

The memories of drifting down the muddy waters of the Mekong is sure to stay with you for years to come, while island hopping from Phuket or Krabi is another must while in the country. The tropical islands that pepper the Gulf of Thailand have been used as a shooting spot for everything from James Bond movies to ‘The Beach’. For a completely different perspective of the country, head to the north, where traditional tribal villages are located amid deep jungle and towering hills that are worth exploring. For history lovers, there are Khmer ruins waiting to be explored at Phanom Rung Historical Park along with the famous bridge on the River Kwai.

Thailand’s road network is well developed and the country’s public transport will take you almost anywhere at an inexpensive price. This is another reason why budget travelers love this country. Thailand also has more than 2,500 miles of railway, running from the border with Malaysia in the south to destinations like Chiang Mai in the north. Both are a great value for money, although neither buses nor trains are the fastest or the most comfortable means of travel. For this, you are better off organizing a car and a driver to take you from one destination to another.

What travelers say about their Thailand tours

Travel tips for thailand trips.

Thailand uses the Thai baht, abbreviated as THB or ฿.

The country’s official language is Thai, also known as Central Thai. Additionally, several regional dialects and minority languages are spoken in Thailand. These include Isan (Northeastern Thai), Kam Mueang (Northern Thai), and Dambro (Southern Thai). English is widely understood in tourist areas. However, learning a few basic Thai phrases goes a long way. “Thank you” (khob khun kha/krap, with the last word changing according to gender and “excuse me” (kho thot) are always appreciated.

Thailand has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, but its weather can be broadly divided into three seasons:

  • Rainy season (May-October). This time of year brings frequent afternoon showers, high humidity, and flourishing greenery. Temperatures stay warm, typically between 80-90 F. While storms can disrupt outdoor plans, they tend to be brief and followed by sunshine.
  • Cool season (November-February). This is considered the peak tourist season due to its pleasant weather. Temperatures are cooler and more comfortable, ranging from 70-80 F. Furthermore, rainfall is minimal, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
  • Hot season (March-April). This is the hottest and driest time of year in Thailand. Sunshine dominates, with little to no rain, and temperatures can soar into the high 90s—even exceeding 100 F in some areas.

No matter when you visit Thailand , you’ll likely experience warm weather. The best season for your trip depends on your preferences for temperature, rain, and crowds. Here’s a breakdown:

  • High season (November-March). This is Thailand’s peak tourist season, and for good reason. The weather is delightful, with comfortable temperatures ranging from 70-80 F. There’s also minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. (And with clear skies, you’ll have ample opportunity to snap postcard-worthy photos.
  • Shoulder season (April, May, and October). The shoulder seasons in Thailand offer a good balance of good weather and smaller crowds. From April to May, the weather gets hotter, but not as scorching as it does in the hot season. October’s the tail end of the rainy season, with less frequent and intense showers.
  • Low season (July-September). Thailand’s rainy season sees frequent afternoon showers and high humidity. While it might not be the ideal time for all travelers, it has its charm. The landscapes are at their most lush, and there are significantly fewer crowds. You’ll also find the best deals on flights and accommodations.

A Thailand trip is always incredible, but having the right stuff in your suitcase makes every day better. Here are some essentials to pack:

  • Sun protection. Whether we’re talking big floppy hats, chic sunglasses, or your favorite sunscreens, you need to be ready for sunny days in Thailand. And because Southeast Asia can get very humid, it’s a good idea to bring a fan to help cool you down.
  • Lightweight, breathable layers. Thailand is a tropical country with hot, humid weather year-round. Pack loose-fitting, comfortable clothes made from lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen.
  • Full-coverage layers for religious sites. When visiting temples, your clothes should cover most of your body. For men, that means full pants and shirts with sleeves. For women, dresses or skirts that go beyond the knee and tops that cover the shoulders—nothing too tight—will do the trick. A jacket or shawl also works.
  • Rain protection. For Thailand tours during the rainy season, take an umbrella everywhere you go. It might be clear during the day, but you never know when a tropical storm might arrive—even if it’s just for 20 minutes. Light, waterproof jackets and shoes will keep you comfortable, too.
  • Comfortable walking shoes. Whether you’re strolling around a palace or boarding boats that’ll whisk you to floating markets, you’ll want your most comfortable footwear with you.
  • Swimwear. Thailand boasts stunning beaches and islands. Pack a swimsuit or two, a beach cover-up, and a quick-drying towel.
  • Small carry-on. On our Thailand tours , you’ll fly in-country several times between provinces. A carry-on bag ensures you’ll have all your essentials close at hand.

Once you’ve reserved one of our Thailand travel packages , we’ll send you detailed information about what to bring. Download the free Go Ahead Tours app before you take off, so you’ll have all the info you need about your trip right in your pocket.

The Land of Smiles contains a captivating blend of ancient temples, stunning beaches, energetic metropolises, and scenic natural beauty. Here are some of the best places to visit in Thailand, catering to a range of interests:

  • Bangkok . Thailand’s bustling capital has something for everyone. You can marvel at the grandeur of the Grand Palace, explore Wat Arun’s architectural splendor, take a scenic cruise along the Chao Phraya River, and indulge in the city’s street food scene.
  • Phuket. On Thailand’s largest island, you can relax on world-class beaches like Patong or Kata; explore historical sites like Phuket Old Town; indulge in the nightlife; or embark on diving and snorkeling adventures.
  • Chiang Mai . The largest city in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai, boasts rich cultural heritage and laid-back charm. Explore ancient temples like Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, delve into lively night markets, and visit elephant sanctuaries for a unique encounter.

Thai food encompasses many delicious dishes—but ultimately, the best way to discover your favorite is by exploring the country’s culinary scene yourself! Here’s a sampling of the most popular foods to try during your Thailand travel :

  • Pad Thai. This stir-fried noodle dish is a classic for a reason. Rice noodles are stir-fried with protein (chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu), vegetables, egg, and a flavorful tamarind-based sauce. It’s a crowd-pleaser with a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and sour flavors.
  • Tom Yum Goong. This hot-and-sour shrimp soup is another iconic Thai dish. Made fragrant by lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and chilies, it packs a flavorful punch with refreshing sourness. Shrimp, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a lime wedge complete this delightful soup.
  • Chicken curry. If you love curry, Thailand is the place to be. Every restaurant prepares its curry just a little differently, depending on local ingredients. Expect a delicious mix of lemongrass, coconut milk, shallots, coriander, and garlic, along with chilies to spice it up.
  • Thai coconut pancakes. Got a sweet tooth? Satisfy it with one of Thailand’s favorite street foods: creamy, crispy, and delightfully sweet coconut pancakes. These bite-sized, mouthwatering snacks can be found wherever street foods are sold. They’re perfect as a quick snack or a sweet ending to a meal.

We recommend spending nine to 22 days on a Thailand tour . Trips on the shorter end of this range will allow you to hit some of the country’s most popular sites—places like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai—while longer itineraries should give you more freedom to explore. If you’d like to spend time on Phuket, Koh Samui, and other, smaller islands, choose a longer tour.

Whether seeking adventure, relaxation, cultural experiences, or culinary delights, Thailand offers it all. Here are some of the most popular things to do there:

  • Tour the Grand Palace in Bangkok. The official residence of the Siamese royal family for over 200 years, the Grand Palace is the cultural heart of Thailand. A must-see for any visitor to Bangkok, its temples are covered in glistening gold and filled with colorful statues and opulent carvings.
  • Visit an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai.  In Thailand, elephants are a revered national symbol. Many sanctuaries, including ChangChill in Chiang Mai, provide a haven for rescued elephants. You can visit one to learn more about these beautiful animals and see them up close.
  • Relax on the beaches of Phuket or Krabi.  Thailand boasts some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and places like Phuket and Krabi are popular tourist destinations with stunning sands and clear waters. You’ll also find some of the best diving and snorkeling on the planet.

A vibrant country of contrasts, Thailand attractions go well beyond typical tourist fare. Here are some unique adventures that await you:

  • Sail through the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. This commercial center is unique because vendors and shoppers do business from their own boats. You’ll sail along, jockeying for space as people haggle for the best produce, food, and other local specialties. If you want to soak in the energy, pull up to a flower market—it’s considered one of the best places to get a glimpse of Thai life.
  • Visit the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. Also known as Wat Pho, this 16th-century temple is one of the oldest in Bangkok. The temple’s centerpiece is its 150-foot-long, 50-foot-tall, gold leaf-covered statue of the Buddha reclining on his side. (It’s one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand!)
  • Sample teas at an oolong plantation. A visit to an oolong tea plantation isn’t just about the tea itself; it’s about time-honored traditions, connections to the land, and the warm hospitality of the Thai people.

By understanding and practicing the cultural norms of this beautiful country, you’ll show respect for Thai traditions and have a more positive and enriching experience. Here are some things to be aware of:

  • Respecting Thai culture. Thailand is predominantly Buddhist, and temples are sacred places. When visiting one, dress modestly (with shoulders and knees covered) and remove your shoes before entering. Avoid physical contact with monks, and always give them the right of way. Finally, don’t photograph monks without permission.
  • Bargaining. At markets and with street vendors, bargaining is expected. Be polite and have fun with the negotiation process.
  • Greetings and demeanor. The wai is a traditional Thai greeting, made with palms pressed together at chest level. The deeper the bow and higher the hands, the more respect is conveyed. A slight wai with a smile is appropriate for everyday greetings.
  • Public displays of affection (PDA). Avoid excessive PDA, which can be seen as disrespectful.

When is the best time to travel to Thailand?

Thailand is a popular travel destination that is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and rich history. The best time to travel to Thailand depends on a variety of factors, such as weather, peak tourist season, and local festivals and events. Here is a guide to help you decide when to plan your trip to Thailand:

  • High Season (November - February)

The high season in Thailand is from November to February, when the weather is dry and cool, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). This is the peak tourist season, with many visitors flocking to Thailand to enjoy the sunny weather, clear skies, and festive atmosphere. The beaches and islands are popular destinations during this time, with plenty of water activities available, such as snorkeling, diving, and island hopping. However, prices tend to be higher during this season, and popular tourist attractions can be crowded.

  • Shoulder Season (March - June)

The shoulder season in Thailand is from March to June, when the weather starts to get hot and humid, with temperatures averaging around 30°C to 35°C (86°F to 95°F). This is a good time to visit if you prefer less crowded beaches and lower prices. There may be occasional rain showers, but they usually do not last long and can provide relief from the heat. Songkran, the Thai New Year festival, is celebrated in mid-April and is a popular time to visit for locals and tourists alike.

  • Low Season (July - October)

The low season in Thailand is from July to October, when the weather is hot and humid, with occasional rain showers and thunderstorms. This is the monsoon season, and many popular tourist destinations, such as Phuket and Koh Samui, experience heavy rainfall during this time. However, the north and central regions of Thailand, such as Chiang Mai and Bangkok, may still have sunny weather. This is the low tourist season, and prices are often lower than during the high season. The Vegetarian Festival is celebrated in October, and is a unique and colorful event that draws visitors to Thailand.

  • Festivals and Events

Thailand has a rich culture and history, and there are many festivals and events throughout the year that are worth experiencing. Some of the most popular ones include:

  • Songkran (mid-April): Thai New Year festival that involves water fights and celebrations across the country.
  • Loy Krathong (November): festival of lights where floating lanterns are released into the sky and rivers.
  • Vegetarian Festival (October): a colorful festival that involves cleansing and purifying the body through a vegetarian diet and various rituals.
  • Full Moon Party (Koh Phangan): a monthly beach party that attracts thousands of visitors for music, dancing, and entertainment.

In conclusion, the best time to travel to Thailand depends on your preferences and priorities. The high season is from November to February, when the weather is dry and cool, but prices tend to be higher and tourist attractions can be crowded. The shoulder season from March to June can offer a good balance of lower prices and fewer crowds, with occasional rain showers. The low season from July to October is the least crowded but can have heavy rainfall in some areas. Additionally, there are many festivals and events throughout the year that are worth experiencing.

Do I need a visa to travel around thailand?

It depends on your nationality and the length of your stay in Thailand. Many countries have a visa exemption agreement with Thailand that allows their citizens to stay for up to 30 days without a visa, while others require a visa for any length of stay.

Visa Exemption:

If you are from one of the countries that have a visa exemption agreement with Thailand, you can stay for up to 30 days without a visa. These countries include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, and many others.

Visa on Arrival:

If you are from one of the countries that do not have a visa exemption agreement with Thailand, you may be eligible for a visa on arrival. This allows you to stay for up to 15 days in Thailand, and you can apply for the visa when you arrive at the airport. However, it is important to note that this option is not available at all airports, so be sure to check beforehand.

Tourist Visa:

If you are planning to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, you will need to apply for a tourist visa before you arrive. The tourist visa allows you to stay for up to 60 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days while you are in Thailand. You can apply for a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in your home country.

Other Visas:

If you are planning to work, study, or stay in Thailand for an extended period, you will need to apply for a different type of visa. These visas require additional documentation and may take longer to process, so it is important to plan ahead.

It is important to note that visa regulations can change at any time, so it is always a good idea to check with the Thai embassy or consulate in your home country before you travel. Additionally, be sure to check the expiration date of your passport, as many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your entry into the country.

As always we recommend checking the latest country entry requirements with your national foreign travel office, for UK citizens this is the Foreign Travel Advice section of www.gov.co.uk , please click here to view to Thailand page.

How much money will I need?

The currency of Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB). It is recommended to exchange your currency to Thai Baht upon arrival in Thailand at a bank or authorized exchange counter. Most major currencies such as US dollars, euros, and British pounds can be exchanged.

The amount of money you will need for a two week holiday in Thailand will depend on your travel style and budget. Thailand is generally a very affordable destination, with prices varying depending on the region and type of accommodation and activities you choose.

Here is a breakdown of estimated costs for some common expenses in Thailand:

Accommodation: Budget accommodation such as hostels or guesthouses can cost around 200-500 THB per night. Mid-range hotels and resorts can range from 1,000-3,000 THB per night, while luxury hotels can cost 5,000 THB or more per night.

Food: Street food and local restaurants are generally very affordable, with meals costing around 50-100 THB. Mid-range restaurants can cost around 200-300 THB per meal, while high-end restaurants can cost upwards of 500 THB per meal.

Transportation: Taxis and tuk-tuks are widely available in Thailand and can cost around 100-200 THB for short trips. Longer trips can be more expensive. Local buses and trains are more affordable options, with fares starting at around 20 THB.

Based on these estimates, a budget traveler without being on a tour can expect to spend around 14,000-21,000 THB for a two week holiday in Thailand. Mid-range travelers can expect to spend around 28,000-42,000 THB, while luxury travelers can spend upwards of 70,000 THB.

It is always a good idea to have some extra cash on hand for unexpected expenses and emergencies. Additionally, be sure to inform your bank and credit card companies of your travel plans so that your cards are not blocked while you are abroad.

Is Thailand a safe destination?

Thailand is generally considered a safe destination for a holiday. The country has a low crime rate, and violent crimes against tourists are rare. However, like any other country, Thailand does have its share of petty crime such as pickpocketing and theft, especially in tourist areas.

Here are some tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip to Thailand:

Be cautious with your belongings: Keep your valuable belongings such as cash, passports, and cameras with you at all times. Avoid leaving them unattended, especially on beaches or in crowded areas. Use a money belt or a cross-body bag to keep your valuables close to you.

Use licensed taxis and transportation: Avoid unlicensed taxis and transportation, especially at night. Use only licensed taxis, tuk-tuks, or ride-hailing services like Grab. Be sure to confirm the price before getting into the vehicle.

Be careful with drugs: Drug use is illegal in Thailand and can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment. Avoid any involvement with drugs, including buying or using them.

Respect local customs and laws: Thailand is a Buddhist country, and it is essential to respect local customs and laws. Dress modestly when visiting temples or other religious sites and remove shoes before entering. Avoid public displays of affection, especially in conservative areas.

Be aware of scams: Scams targeting tourists are common in Thailand, especially in tourist areas. Be aware of scams such as tuk-tuk scams, gem scams, and fake tour operators. Research your tours and activities in advance and book through reputable operators.

Stay hydrated and protected from the sun: Thailand can be hot and humid, and it's essential to stay hydrated and protected from the sun. Drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen and a hat when spending time outdoors.

In summary, Thailand is a safe destination for a holiday, but it's always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. By following the tips above, you can have a great experience in Thailand without any safety concerns.

Thailand Solo Travelling

Thailand is one of our most popular destinations for solo travellers. There are many good reasons why!

Firstly Thailand offers so much to do from bustling cities to glorious beaches to tropical wild lands and wildlife. Secondly the weather is almost always good and finally in terms of value for money it is hard to beat.

It's also pretty easy to access as there are lots of flights into Bangkok and the internal flight network is really good.

Thailand is also pretty safe, as safe as anywhere else! The vast majority of our Thailand Holidays are small groups and so safer than travelling alone (and we think much more fun too). Travelling in a small group as a solo traveller also offers a few more benefits such as it's generally better value, you get a guid to take you away from the usual and it's more than likely you'll make friends for life, there is nothing like travelling together to cement friendships and bonds. If you'd like to find out more please do make contact on [email protected] or click here to go to our Contact Us page or please call on +44 (0) 208 004 8886 (please see the top of our website page for international phone numbers).

Getting there

Let's start with the basics. The capital, Bangkok from London, is around 11 and a half to 12 hours but there are a number of flights per day both direct and in-direct from a number of UK airports in including most main London airports, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. As a result of the number of flights prices are kept relatively low (although they’re not ‘cheap’) at around £600 at the time of writing. Bangkok is huge and, well, busy doesn’t cover it. You’re in for a shock to the senses if you haven’t travelled to a very busy city before (much more chaotic than London, Paris or New York!). Whilst Bangkok is fun for a day or two you’re not going to experience much adventure here and it’s probably not where you’re end point is but it is worth a look around at daytime and night time, you can try some rather interesting food from the street stalls…if you dare! Moving on from Bangkok is pretty easy as there is an excellent network of internal lights covering all corners as well as good roads and rail network although, we’d recommend flying because it much quicker and good value for money.

To check flights we recommend using Skyscanner .

Will i need any vaccinations to travel to Thailand?

Some vaccinations may be required depending on where you are going, when and what you’re doing.

It is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider or a travel medicine specialist at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to Thailand to ensure that you have all the necessary vaccinations and medications. Additionally, you should also take steps to prevent mosquito bites, such as using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and staying in air-conditioned or screened-in areas to avoid mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever and Zika virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommend the following vaccinations for travelers to Thailand:

Hepatitis A: This vaccination is recommended because of the risk of contaminated food or water in Thailand.

Typhoid: Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that is spread through contaminated food or water. This vaccination is recommended, especially for those who will be traveling outside of major cities or who will be in close contact with the local population.

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): These vaccinations are recommended for all travelers born after 1957 who do not have evidence of immunity.

Tetanus and diphtheria: These vaccinations should be up to date for all travelers, as they are required for entry into many countries.

Influenza: Influenza vaccination is recommended for all travelers, especially during the flu season (October through March).

Rabies: Although the risk of rabies is low in Thailand, this vaccination may be recommended for travelers who will be working with animals or who will be in remote areas without access to medical care.

Hepatitis B: This vaccination may be recommended for travelers who will be in close contact with the local population or who may need medical treatment while in Thailand.

Standard and correct advice is to check with your GP before travelling as they’ll have the up to date information.

Helpful Information

Here are some helpful tips and information to keep in mind before traveling to Thailand:

Respect the culture: Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, and visitors are expected to show respect for local customs and traditions. This includes dressing modestly when visiting temples or religious sites, removing shoes before entering a temple, and avoiding public displays of affection.

Watch what you eat and drink: Thai cuisine is known for its delicious flavors, but it's important to be cautious when eating and drinking to avoid getting sick. Stick to bottled water and avoid ice in drinks, as well as raw or undercooked meats and seafood. Street food can be safe to eat if it is cooked in front of you and has a high turnover rate.

Be aware of scams: While most people in Thailand are friendly and helpful, there are some common scams that tourists should be aware of, such as tuk-tuk drivers overcharging for rides, fake gem scams, and "helpful" strangers offering to take you to a better hotel or attraction.

Negotiate prices: Bargaining is a common practice in Thailand, especially at markets and street vendors. Don't be afraid to negotiate prices, but be respectful and don't haggle too aggressively.

Stay safe: Thailand is generally a safe country for travelers, but it's always important to take precautions to stay safe. Keep your valuables locked up in your hotel room, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing expensive jewelry.

Learn some basic Thai phrases: Learning a few basic Thai phrases can go a long way in showing respect for the local culture and making your trip more enjoyable. Even just learning how to say hello, thank you, and goodbye can make a difference.

Consider traveling during the shoulder season: While Thailand is a popular tourist destination year-round, the shoulder seasons (April-June and September-November) can offer better deals on accommodations and flights, as well as fewer crowds.

Take advantage of public transportation: Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand have a variety of public transportation options, including the BTS Skytrain, MRT subway, and public buses. Taking public transportation can save you money and help you avoid traffic jams.

Dress for the weather: Thailand has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather year-round. Pack light, breathable clothing and don't forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

Have fun and be open to new experiences: Thailand is a beautiful and diverse country with a lot to offer travelers. Be open to new experiences, try new foods, and enjoy the culture and hospitality of the Thai people.

How to choose your ideal Thailand Tour

If you are thinking there are many impressive Thailand Tours to choose and you do not which one to take, do not hesitate to check out our six basic steps as listed below to find out:

Step 1: Deciding the length of your Thailand Tour

Since each Thailand Tour has a different duration, you would need to decide how many days are you going to spend exploring Thailand. Are you going on a short trip of 3 days? A week? A couple of weeks? Or a month? Trying to figure out your total number of days and start from there. To give you an idea, the classic Thailand highlight tours usually roughly last from 08 to 19 days.

Step 2: Choose your Thailand Tour Style

If you've decided your favourite Thailand Tour Style, please go straight to step 3. Otherwise, you might want to check out Thailand Tours by Styles Collection and choose the style which suits your taste and needs.

Step 3: Find out which are your favourite destinations in Thailand

As Thailand is one of the largest countries in Southeast Asia by area, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with its many stunning destinations. The recommended advice is starting from the most prominent destinations (e.g., Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui, Phi Phi Islands) to the less-known destinations (e.g., Chiang Rai, Kanchanaburi, Amphawa) and read through the comprehensive travel guide of each destination in ‘Top Destinations in Thailand’ to find out where you want to discover.

Step 4: What are the activities you would like to take in your Thailand Tour?

Since Thailand has a diverse geography, there are numerous interesting activities which suit any taste and need of any traveller. Spending a short time to read through the highlights and tour summaries in each Thailand Tour, and decide which activities attract you most.

Step 5: Read the detailed itinerary

One of the most important steps to choose your desired Thailand Tour is spending time to read over the detailed itinerary carefully to know which type of experiences you will have, the accommodation and what are inclusions & exclusions.

Step 6: Send us an enquiry

Whether you find out your dream Thailand Holiday or not, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us since our experts are always ready to start working on your customized journey based on your needs and taste & help you organize your insider trip to Thailand.

FAQs about Thailand Tours

Cash or credit card in thailand.

Both are ok. Credit cards are accepted all over Thailand in major accommodations and large restaurants. Cheaper and budget vendors will expect to be paid in cash. For upscale service or items, credit cards are more commonly used. For common services like taxi, tuk-tuk drivers or street food purchasing, cash is the better option.

Is the tap water in Thailand clean to drink?

It is not recommended to drink tap water directly in Thailand. Generally, water must be boiled before using it. Bottled water is used commonly here by many tourists to drink, even when they’re brushing the teeth for more safety but it’s not really necessary.

What is Thailand's preferred currency?

The preferred currency in Thailand is its national currency, the Thai Baht. You can also pay in US Dollars here, mainly in big shopping malls, hotels or large restaurants. But people recommended that you should have some local money on hand, particularly when you’re buying food or souvenirs in local markets or street vendors.

Best Thailand SIM card to buy

AIS 4G net SIM is the top-choice among tourists for a SIM card to buy when in Thailand due to its extensive coverage in almost regions in Thailand even in remote areas. AIS maintains a good connection in big cities but also offers good signals in islands or rural places. You can easily find this SIM card at the airport, malls, convenient stores, or official mobile providers.

Is food in Thailand safe and clean?

Regarded as a paradise of Asian cuisine, Thailand offers a wide array of local specialities and cooking styles. The food here is also known to be safe and clean to eat. Still, if you’re concerned about unfamiliar foods, it’s better to avoid raw ingredients and pick well-cooked dishes. Choosing popular and busy street food stalls should be fine.

Is tipping mandatory in Thailand?

Like many other neighbour countries, tipping is not a mandatory requirement in Thailand. However, gratuities for great service are always appreciated and it has become more common among tourists in Thailand. If the service is merely acceptable, depending on your satisfaction, you’re free to decide whether to give a bonus or not.

Which destinations should I visit in Thailand?

Thailand is never less attractive to tourists due to the colourful beauty of nature, history, culture, and local daily life. From ancient capitals in Sukhothai, Ayutthaya to exciting adventures diving into the nature in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, from lively Bangkok, Pattaya to beautiful seascapes in Phuket, Krabi or Phang Nga, the diversity of destinations has made Thailand satisfy any travel purposes. Depending on your travel interest, you could revise these recommended places above before setting off a trip to Thailand.

What is the best time to visit Thailand?

The dry season which lasts from November to early March is the best time to visit Thailand as the weather during these months is pleasant, sunny, and clear most days that will help you take full advantage of joining tourist activities here. Obviously, this is the busiest time so that many places will be crowded with people. October or April is also preferred by many tourists as it’s the time celebrating the most famous traditional festivals in Thailand.

How long do I need to explore Thailand?

If you have limited travel time, a tour route consisting of 3 places within 10 days could be fairly enough for you to explore Thailand. Travelling time between locations that are far apart could be a big concern unless you use airlines. Thus, to fully enjoy your trip to Thailand, you will need at least 2 weeks to visit the most famous destinations, experience almost must-do as well as have time to relax here.

Where should I visit in Thailand on my 1st-time tour routes?

Thailand has plentiful amazing things to discover than you expected so that just one trip is not enough for you to explore this country entirely. Many previous travellers recommended that the three most popular destinations in each region alongside the country’s territory are appropriate for first-timers. A trip to Chiang Mai in the North, Bangkok in the Central, and one of the beaches in the South (Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, etc) may be the most reasonable.

We are here to take the stress out of the holiday planning process. Let us help you plan an unforgettable journey of lifetime with High Quality & Affordable Price. Surely, you will feel satisfactory!

9 things you should know before visiting Bangkok

Austin Bush

I moved to Bangkok in 1999, a time when most visitors to Thailand reluctantly did a night in this megacity before beelining to an island or the north. Synonymous with traffic jams, pollution and urban sprawl, the Thai capital was largely seen as an unwanted but obligatory stopover.

Decades later, things have changed and Bangkok is now the destination of choice for many visitors – with good reason. Easier to get around and cleaner than ever, with a vibrant eating and drinking scene that caters to just about every budget and an enviable spread of intriguing sights and fantastic-value shopping, the city has more to offer than ever before.

Yet like any big city, Bangkok has its quirks and surprises. Here's what you need to know before you go.

Find out what you should know in advance about Thailand , including important cultural, religious and legal issues, etiquette and health.

Bangkok is easier to get around than ever

Bangkok used to be synonymous with traffic jams and air pollution. The jams still happen, but the good news is that the city’s public transportation system has grown immensely. The various above and underground rail networks currently unite 10 different lines – with more in the works – and 192 stations, including trains linking both of Bangkok’s international airports and the city center.

On top of this, taxis remain ubiquitous and cheap – though subject to the issues that make the city’s traffic so infamous – while quirky public transportation systems such as the city’s river and canal taxis provide a slow but steady (and scenic) way to get around.

Crime happens but it's rare

Thailand has a low crime rate and is generally considered a safe country. Bangkok suffers from the same type of violent crimes as any big city, but anecdotally, is considered a safe place. Apart from occasional bag snatching and theft, the most dangerous thing in the city is its traffic (Thailand’s roads are some of the deadliest of any country). Solo women travelers and locals I’ve spoken to also report feeling safe in the city.

A particular Bangkok annoyance is scams directed at tourists. These typically involve taxi drivers who refuse to use their meters, or tuk-tuk drivers and/or well-dressed, English-speaking men who appear out of nowhere offering free tours that inevitably lead to dodgy gem shops or tailors. The good news is that most of these situations are easy to spot and relatively low-pressure; if something seems off, simply walk away.

It’s also worth noting that Bangkok’s police don’t have a great reputation. Steer clear of them unless you really need help.

Street food isn’t the only good food

Western chefs and food media have been raving about Bangkok’s street food for more than a decade. And it’s a fun, often delicious way to eat. But if you relegated yourself to street food alone, you’d miss the entire scope of Bangkok’s cuisine.

Supplement those streetside noodles with meals at the charming, decades-old restaurants in the old town – these are the places that get the most praise in the Thai-language media. In Bangkok’s newer districts, such as along Thanon Sukhumvit, consider a Japanese meal – the city is home to one of the largest populations of Japanese people outside of Japan.

If your budget allows, consider a splurge restaurant. While the rest of the world was obsessing over its street food, Bangkok's dining scene went in the opposite direction and today is home to several modern, cutting-edge upscale restaurants.

Sometimes it's too hot to handle

Bangkok is one of the hottest capital cities in the world, with an average mean temperature of 29°C (84°F). This heat is compounded by intense humidity and the urban environment, which reflects and retains heat, meaning the city often feels much, much ( much ) hotter. April is Bangkok's hottest month, with an average daily max temperature of 35°C (96 ° F) and during the “winter” in December and January, temperatures rarely dip below 20°C (68°F).

All of this means you shouldn't try to cover too much ground on foot – an already difficult task given the city’s lack of pedestrian infrastructure. If you do walk, learn the technique of regularly ducking into air-conditioned malls, hotel lobbies and 7-Elevens to cool off.

Likewise, pack light clothing, but remember – Thais are conservative when it concerns showing skin in public and Bangkok is not the beach.

Bangkok is a queer-friendly city

LGBTIQ+ people are made to feel welcome in Bangkok, which is generally considered Asia’s most queer-friendly city. The epicenter of the gay scene is Thanon Silom, especially in and around Soi 4, which is ostensibly Asia’s biggest queer nightlife area.

Thankfully, it looks like this queer-friendly vibe will extend to legislation. In 2023, the Thai parliament passed draft bills on same-sex marriage, which are expected to become laws, making Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to allow same-sex marriage.

Keep in mind that public displays of affection between people of any gender are frowned upon in Thailand.

There are better budget options than Khao San Road

If you want to be based in the world’s most famous backpacker strip – and all that that entails – book a bed or room on Thanon Khao San, generally known as Khao San Road. It’s lively and fun, and provides easy access to the city’s old town.

But having moved slightly upscale in recent decades, Khao San Road no longer represents the best value area to stay in Bangkok. And with loud bars and a boozy vibe, it’s definitely not the most peaceful place to stay.

If you want to have access to the backpacker amenities but don’t want the noise and hassle, consider staying in the streets nearby, such as Thanon Rambutri or Thanon Phra Athit.

Monsoon season brings sudden surprises

During the annual monsoon, from approximately May to October, Bangkok’s streets occasionally turn into rivers. During this time of year, don’t be surprised if you have to camp out on an elevated street corner or in a 7-Eleven until the waters recede.

Malls are part of city life

While shopping malls are a dying breed in much of the west, they’re thriving in Bangkok. The city is home to some of the most over-the-top shopping centers in the world, which in contemporary Bangkok, have a dual function as (conveniently air-conditioned) social centers. Thais gather at the city’s more than 500 shopping centers to chat, eat, take selfies and occasionally make purchases, and so should you.

Tourists spray water guns out of a tuk tuk on Khaosan Road during the Songkran festival

Bangkok essentially shuts down during the Thai New Year

Every year around April, Bangkok grinds to a halt during Thai New Year, known as Songkran or the water festival. The tradition has its origins in the cleansing role of water, but these days it essentially means that Bangkok becomes ground zero to a multi-day, raucous water battle.

Whether you're into it or not, you’ll be splashed with water and/or smeared with baby powder. Don’t even attempt stepping outside your door with your Sunday best on and don’t expect your favorite restaurant, or that museum or monument to be open (shopping centers, inevitably, will be operating). Discover more about Bangkok's festivals and seasonal attractions in our guide to the best time to visit the city .

Weed isn’t exactly legal in Bangkok

In June 2022, marijuana and hemp were removed from the Category 5 narcotics list in Thailand. However, there are still many restrictions and smoking marijuana in public is not legal and is not recommended.

Yes, there's a sex industry, but it's easy to avoid

“One Night in Bangkok” is indeed a reality. But if you steer clear of the main red-light zones at night – namely Thanon Patpong, Soi Nana and Soi Cowboy – it's likely you won’t even witness this side of the city.

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Is a Keeper: TV Review

Legendary talk show host and hot wing evangelist returns to television with hilarious new Max travel show

Conan O'Brien tries Thai boxing with predictable results.

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down , this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.

Popular on Variety

Conan’s three-decade run as a talk show host ended in 2021 under less-than-optimal circumstances , as he wound down his TBS show during the pandemic year. He talked to longtime sidekick Andy Richter , who sat among dozens of cardboard cutout fans. O’Brien quipped that they were last in line for the vaccine because the CDC had looked at the shows and “they said ours is the least essential of pretty much all the non-essential shows.”

There was some truth in that, but Conan had already started his move to other outlets , starting with his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in 2018.

The podcast is funny and sweet, especially the pre-interview segments with longtime associate Sona Movsesian and producer Matt Gourley. Conan mocks Sona’s legendarily bad work habits. and Gourley’s flea market predilections, but any kind of comedic acid is reserved for the self-lacerating O’Brien. (On a recent episode, Conan runs down his own looks, and it is cruel and hilarious, but part of me is thinking, “Dude, cut yourself a break.”). The only time things get contentious is when Conan visited by longtime friend Kevin Nealon — perhaps the podcast’s best episodes.

The podcast had an offshoot called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” on which O’Brien would talk to a fan, often in a faraway land. That led to O’Brien traveling to Norway, Thailand, Ireland and Argentina to meet them. Why? Well, a dour and ominous narrator, aka Werner Herzog, offered this rationale at the beginning of each episode: “Once a proud talk show host, he’s been driven by a changing ecosystem to a drier and harsher climate: the weekly podcast. Here , without the nourishment of his studio audience, this clown with dull , tiny eyes, the eye of a crudely painted doll , is forced to feed on that meagerest of morsels: the random call-in fan. Unhinged by the feral scent of their mild enthusiasm. He scavenges in distant lands uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition , and the occasional selfie.”

It’s a self-deprecating bit, but it’s also the truth. Conan has been doing travel shows for years, most notably one to Movsesian’s native Armenia , as well as a chaotic trip to Finland where O’Brien is treated as a god because of his physical resemblance to the Finnish president who happens to be a woman. He clearly loves the journey. And he loves the comedy set piece–see his classic “Old Timey Baseball” opus — which has always been an essential part of his appeal.

The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather , he revels in the fact that he is the fool. (See his instant-classic appearance on “Hot Ones,” the show where interviews are conducted while the celebrity consumes increasingly acidic chicken wings. Conan rhapsodizes on comedy being all around us as green-yellow mucus drips down his nose.) Of course, there are exceptions made for old friends. Conan goes out for asada in Buenos Aires with the effete and erudite Jordan Schlansky, a longtime producer and frenemy. Schlansky and Conan are the Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon of American cable , and on his TBS show and podcast the two have tangled over Japanese customs, Conan hosting Schlansky’s bachelor party in his own office, and Schlansky hiding an expensive Espresso machine in an inaccessible part of their offices. (As with the Courtney Thorne-Smith segment, Conan’s visceral malice toward Schlansky works because it is so out-of-character).

During the Argentina episode, they get into a fierce argument about the proper pronunciation of the word “tango,” Conan then licks Schlansky’s favorite cut of meat — wait, that came out wrong. After, they go on an ill-fated trip to the Pampas, where both fail spectacularly at gaucho life.

Not everything works. O’Brien does a self-referential bit about the expensive drone he is using on the first show , and for the next four episodes I am distracted every time I see a beautiful shot thinking about the drone’s specifications and capabilities. Some of the stuff goes on a bit long, but so does my writing.

These are minor quibbles. If you’re a Conan fan, you’ll treasure the trips, just like his completists treasure encounters with a masturbating bear. The series ends with Conan tracing his family’s roots in Ireland. He comes across his ancestor’s land, makes a few jokes, but then looks at the land, clearly moved. Conan O’Brien has played the fool long enough; we grant him this moment of humanity with all our hearts.

All four episodes of “Conan O’Brien Must Go” are now available on Max.

Thailand Proposes Schengen-Style Visa to Boost Southeast Asia Tourism

Thailand has spearheaded the proposal for a visa system similar to Schengen to transform travel throughout Southeast Asian countries.

Those dreaming of a more in-depth exploration of Southeast Asia may soon be able to realize their dreams. Thailand has spearheaded the proposal for a visa system similar to Schengen to transform travel throughout Southeast Asian countries. The goal is to boost tourism and economic growth in the area. This initiative, led by Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, seeks to simplify the travel process for tourists. Travelers will be able to roam freely across Thailand , Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar with a single visa.

According to recent reports, the proposed visa scheme could significantly increase tourism, making these countries more accessible from Thailand. In 2023, the six nations collectively attracted approximately 70 million tourists, with Thailand and Malaysia hosting the majority. The plan is a clever way to tap into the tourism industry, which is responsible for over 20% of Thailand’s employment and 12% of the country’s GDP. It is also a reaction to the struggling industrial sector and falling exports.

The Vision Behind the Schengen-style Visa System

The concept of a Southeast Asian Schengen-style visa system is rooted in the desire to attract high-spending tourists from distant countries. The scheme encourages longer stays and increased spending by facilitating easier access across multiple nations, thereby expanding the region’s tourism revenues.

The envisioned visa system would likely adopt a 90-day visa policy, extending the current stay limits and offering tourists an opportunity to explore each country more thoroughly. This approach contrasts with the current varying visa policies among these nations, which range from 30-day exemptions to 90-day visa-free stays depending on the country and the traveler’s nationality.

Recent Developments and International Visa Agreements

Thailand has already made significant strides in enhancing its international visa agreements. Thai authorities announced plans to eliminate visa requirements with Australia to bolster tourism and strengthen trade deals between the two countries. Additionally, a mutual, permanent visa-free entry system with China was introduced in March, which led to a surge in travel bookings from both nations.

Still, despite the promising outlook, implementing a regional Schengen-style visa system presents challenges, particularly considering bilateral agreements and political complexities within Southeast Asia. Furthermore, the success of this initiative hinges on the seamless integration of visa policies and cooperation among the participating countries.

Klook Plans Partnership with Thailand as the Country Skyrockets in Popularity

Jesse Chase-Lubitz , Skift

April 25th, 2024 at 2:33 PM EDT

Thailand remains a strong destination post Covid. Tour operators are flocking to the country and playing a significant role in how travel evolves.

Jesse Chase-Lubitz

Klook, a leading platform for travel experiences in Asia, signed a letter of intent with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to boost experiences in the country. The company is hoping to double the number of bookings it has for tourism packages to Thailand this year.

Klook says it is focusing on events, from Muay Thai matches to music festivals to Michelin visits and river cruises. The collaboration should have a particular impact on ticketing, as it allows the company to offer an integrated booking experience to major festivals and top attractions.

Klook is also planning to promote the less obvious attractions and support small to medium operators by providing digitalization tools that can bring offerings online and showcase them to a global audience.

Thailand Gaining in Popularity

Thailand is a long-time travel favorite and it bounced back strong after COVID. Klook says the country has had a 44% growth in foreign tourist arrivals over the past year and a Travel Pulse survey shows that travelers are looking to increase their target budgets for Thailand in 2024 by up to 50%.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand conducted its own survey echoing these results . They found that tourists are spending more on luxury accommodations despite higher airfares and that the use of online platforms for travel arrangements is rising, with tour operators “still playing a significant role.”

Other tour operators, such as EF World Journeys, which offers educational tours, say Thailand is a growing favorite for North American travelers and that it remains one of the top three most popular destinations in Asia.

“Year-to-date, EF Go Ahead Tours has realized nearly 60% year-over-year growth in bookings to Thailand, adding several new tour offerings in the country to meet the demand in the region,” says Heidi Durflinger, President of EF World Journeys which operates two of their offerings.

“Based on our trending destinations data, which is based on thousands of demand indicators amongst younger adult travelers (18-35), tours in Thailand have been a consistent top 5 destination for bookings during Spring Break, but we are also seeing strong demand for Thailand from travelers seeking international beach vacations all year round,” said Heather Leisman, President, EF Ultimate Break.

What people love about Bangkok Tours

Arja (Jane) was an awesome guide! Totally recommend if you only have a couple of days and wanna learn about Thai culture and WW2.
Mee was a wonderful guide who went out of her way to make our tour special.
The driver and guide were very good. The air conditioner in the van was not very good. One day when the temperature was 37 degrees outside we got in the van which was 35 degree’s which was terribly hot. It took nearly an hour for the van to cool to 28 degrees. I told the staff that the air conditioner was not acceptable. The next day there was tape over the thermometer so we couldn’t see the inside temperature. The staff took some effort to let the air conditioner continue when we were out of the van and the inside temperature remained too warm but not as hot as the first day.
