With the launch of the new updated 2022 WagonR, Maruti has also launched the commercial-only variant called the 'Tour H3'. Read all the details in our story below.

The top-selling car of India has been introduced in an updated form by the Japanese carmaker. The 2022 Maruti WagonR Tour H3 has also been launched along with the more luxury-oriented variants of WagonR.

This commercial-only variant has been designed to target the taxi-specific market. As WagonR has been a seldom favorite among the taxi fleet operators, Maruti has launched this special 'Tour H3' variant for the commercial owners.

WagonR Tour H3 Engine & Specifications

As the Tour H3 version is only focused on the commercial fleet operators, the taxi market needs more efficient and reliable engines while the focus on performance is leas among the commercial buyers.

Keeping in mind the desired changes that the commercial operators might want, Maruti has offered the extremely reliable 1.0-Lt, 3-cylinder, petrol engine in the Tour H3 commercial variants. This engine produces a peak power of 67 Bhp @5500 RPM (1 bhp down by the outgoing model) and a peak torque of 90 Nm @3500 RPM. This power is divulged to front wheels via the use of a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The bi-fuel CNG versions make 65hp in petrol mode (down by 3hp) and 57hp in CNG mode (down by 2hp). The CNG Tour H3 also uses a 5-speed manual gearbox.

As the main idea was to save the costs included, there is no automatic transmission. Along with the petrol variant, Tour H3 is also available with a company-fitted bi-fuel CNG option. The claimed efficiency of the petrol version stands at 25.40 Kmpl while the CNG Tour H3 has a claimed efficiency of 34.73 km per kg (CNG Mode).

The efficiency of petrol Tour H3 is 1 Kmpl more than the LXi variant because of the reduced weight as it lacks many features which LXi offers as standard.

Tour H3 Features

For obvious reasons, the Tour H3 commercial variant has the bare minimum features. The main aim is to satisfy the need for space, reliability, and efficiency of commercial buyers; features are no good to the commercial fleet operators.

In terms of the bare-bone feature list, the WagonR Tour H3 offers ABS and driver airbags as standard in terms of safety. Power steering and AC/heater unit can be included as the comfort features while the rest of the car has nothing but bare-bone plastics.

There is no stereo, no center-locking, no foglamps, etc. This weight reduction has helped the Maruti Tour H3 to achieve an increased fuel economy of 1 kmpl more than the LXi standard base trim.

2022 Maruti Tour H3 Price

Maruti Suzuki has priced the Tour H3 commercial variant between Rs 5.40 Lakhs (for the petrol variant) and Rs 6.35 Lakhs (for the CNG variant). These prices are ex-showroom and the fleet operators will have to bear the RTO taxes along the insurance charges to own the Tour H3.

Throughout his life, Richard "Dick" Marconi has always carried a phrase his mother regularly said to him when he was growing up: "Being second in anything is being first in a long line of losers."

In 1959, Dick Marconi had $500, his degree, and a '54 Chevy to his name; he used the last item to haul himself and his young family from his hometown of Gary, Indiana, to California to pursue his career aspirations. Once he arrived in the radiant Golden State, he started working—and quickly excelling—as a salesman for a pharmaceutical company. Dick worked tirelessly at business, eventually founding and building one of the top nutrition-based companies in the world.

Marconi then set about forming one of the finest car collections in the world, which eventually encompassed more than 70 classic, high-performance, exotic, vintage, and racing cars, as well as motorcycles and racing memorabilia. Adding to a growing list of accomplishments, Dick Marconi qualified and raced professionally in the 1994 Long Beach Grand Prix. He finished in eighth place and was the oldest driver to ever compete.

Another important mantra Marconi has lived by—instilled in him by his father—is "Learn, Earn, and Return." The words formed the basis of his decision in 1994 to donate his entire car collection and the building housing it to establish The Marconi Automotive Museum and Foundation for Kids . The nonprofit (whose CEO is Dick's wife, Priscilla "Bo" Marconi) serves at-risk children's charities both in Orange County and throughout Southern California, including ALS Guardian Angels, Boys and Girls Town, and Covenant House California, among many more. The museum generates funds by hosting annual fundraisers, accepting visitor donations, and renting museum space for special events. MFK's goal is to raise $1 million annually to donate directly to children's charities.

At the museum entrance, you're met by a colorful stable of motorcycles, with Ducatis being the most plentiful—fitting given Marconi's Italian heritage. When you get past the main corridor and walk into the warehouse, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, American muscle, and Formula 1 race cars await. Among the rarities inside are a 1991 Cizeta Moroder V16T (1 of 8), 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago SV, 1996 Ferrari FX (1 of 6), and a 1974 Maserati Bora.

Another interesting find is boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya's custom 1991 GMC Sierra, a pickup truck he customized to celebrate his gold medal win at the 1992 Olympics. The truck has a 24-karat-gold-plated sound system built into the bed, an airbrushed portrait of the champ on the hood, and hydraulics. One of the coolest items at the Marconi, though, hangs in a glass case: an orange Gulf jacket worn by Steve McQueen during the filming of Le Mans . There's also a horse sculpture by Chicago artist John Kearney called "Bumpers"; it was constructed from, well, bumpers and inspired the museum's logo.

The Marconi Automotive Museum is located in Tustin, California, and is the most special car museum I've had the pleasure to visit. The staff's dedication, hard work, and fundraising for childrens' charities puts the facility in a league of its own. No admission fee is required to take a tour, however there is a suggested donation of five dollars per person. (Kids 12 and under get to visit for free, of course.) Museum visiting hours are Monday through Friday, except on days where there is an event being held. If you plan to stop by, it's important to note that the Marconi is not open to the public on weekends.

SEVEN CORNERS, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Police said that several lanes were closed after a car crashed into a utility pole on Route 50 at Wayne Road on Sunday.

In a post just after 8:40 a.m., the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said that live wires fell into the roadway after the crash.

Only one car was involved in the crash. FCPD said that the driver of the car was taken to the hospital. That driver was expected to survive.

Both directions of Route 50 were closed for some time, but as of 11 a.m., FCPD said that traffic was moving in both directions. Some lanes did remain closed for crews to continue working on line repairs.

Some Fairfax County residents reported power outages around the time of the crash.

Scenes of flood-ravaged neighborhoods in one of the planet’s driest regions have stunned the world this week. Heavy rains in the United Arab Emirates and Oman submerged cars, clogged highways and killed at least 21 people. Flights out of Dubai’s airport, a major global hub, were severely disrupted.

The downpours weren’t a freak event — forecasters anticipated the storms several days out and issued warnings. But they were certainly unusual. Here’s what to know.

Heavy rain there is rare, but not unheard-of.

On average, the Arabian Peninsula receives a scant few inches of rain a year, although scientists have found that a sizable chunk of that precipitation falls in infrequent but severe bursts, not as periodic showers.

U.A.E. officials said the 24-hour rain total on Tuesday was the country’s largest since records there began in 1949 . But parts of the nation had experienced an earlier round of thunderstorms just last month.

Oman, with its coastline on the Arabian Sea, is also vulnerable to tropical cyclones. Past storms there have brought torrential rain, powerful winds and mudslides, causing extensive damage.

Global warming is projected to intensify downpours.

Stronger storms are a key consequence of human-caused global warming. As the atmosphere gets hotter, it can hold more moisture, which can eventually make its way down to the earth as rain or snow.

But that doesn’t mean rainfall patterns are changing in precisely the same way across every corner of the globe.

In their latest assessment of climate research , scientists convened by the United Nations found there wasn’t enough data to have firm conclusions about rainfall trends in the Arabian Peninsula and how climate change was affecting them. The researchers said, however, that if global warming were to be allowed to continue worsening in the coming decades, extreme downpours in the region would quite likely become more intense and more frequent.

The role of cloud seeding isn’t clear.

The U.A.E. has for decades worked to increase rainfall and boost water supplies by seeding clouds. Essentially, this involves shooting particles into clouds to encourage the moisture to gather into larger, heavier droplets, ones that are more likely to fall as rain or snow.

Cloud seeding and other rain-enhancement methods have been tried across the world, including in Australia, China, India, Israel, South Africa and the United States. Studies have found that these operations can, at best, affect precipitation modestly — enough to turn a downpour into a bigger downpour, but probably not a drizzle into a deluge.

Still, experts said pinning down how much seeding might have contributed to this week’s storms would require detailed study.

“In general, it is quite a challenge to assess the impact of seeding,” said Luca Delle Monache, a climate scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif. Dr. Delle Monache has been leading efforts to use artificial intelligence to improve the U.A.E.’s rain-enhancement program.

An official with the U.A.E.’s National Center of Meteorology, Omar Al Yazeedi, told news outlets this week that the agency didn’t conduct any seeding during the latest storms. His statements didn’t make clear, however, whether that was also true in the hours or days before.

Mr. Al Yazeedi didn’t respond to emailed questions from The New York Times on Thursday, and Adel Kamal, a spokesman for the center, didn’t immediately have further comment.

Cities in dry places just aren’t designed for floods.

Wherever it happens, flooding isn’t just a matter of how much rain comes down. It’s also about what happens to all that water once it’s on the ground — most critically, in the places people live.

Cities in arid regions often aren’t designed to drain very effectively. In these areas, paved surfaces block rain from seeping into the earth below, forcing it into drainage systems that can easily become overwhelmed.

One recent study of Sharjah , the capital of the third-largest emirate in the U.A.E., found that the city’s rapid growth over the past half century had made it vulnerable to flooding at far lower levels of rain than before.

Consumer Reports is a vital site for autobuyers seeking car and truck-buying advice. CR’s “Best Of” is out, but their “ Worst Of” is equally essential for anyone shopping for a new car, truck or SUV.

Here is their list of 5 models to avoid in 2024, and my take on each brand.

Rivian was rightly seen as a welcome, innovative addition to the world of electric vehicles upon launch in 2009. However, their wheels to me seemed like a concept car that never progressed, especially when viewed from the front.

Rivian currently has just two models available, the R1S and the R1T. CR reports both models perform well but have low reliability, and thus deserve a place on the “5 worst” list. The company’s getting clobbered, too. Their stock tanked this year, and hit an all-time low this morning.

GMC doesn’t have a single model with good ratings, according to CR, but their Sierra 1500 in particular annoys owners.

It is, of course, a hunky, intimidating and gorgeous vehicle. The 2023 model I tested had a galvanized grill with two mighty recovery hooks up front, power running boards and steel bumpers that look like they could move a rhinoceros if necessary. It’s also got a winch, additional skid plates, and beefier tires.

But those surveyed reported that the truck is way too noisy, with creaks, pops and rattles. Reliability is also an issue.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar’s F-Type is a favorite among enthusiasts of the brand, including me. But their F-Pace, according to CR surveys, makes “too many noises,” and those surveyed reported that in one case, it took weeks to get an appointment with a service technician, and even after a thorough going-over, they failed to fix the noise problems.

My take? I think anything with the Jaguar badge on it should denote style, class, danger and 5-star living. The F-Pace neither excited nor repelled during a week’s drive.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The inside is the Range Rover Sport’s best side, with on-point cabin materials, a serenely quiet ride, comfortable seats and lots of cargo space. Leather upholstery and heated seats come standard.

Land Rover doesn’t have one vehicle on CR’s “Best” list, which isn’t necessarily terrible. The Range Rover Sport is toast, however. They call it the second worst brand overall on the new market for 2024 and a must to avoid.

Jeep has its devoted, ferocious fans, especially among the Wrangler set. Count me in, too.

2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Though I found their 2023 Grand Cherokee a splendid family vehicle, easily capable of hauling a crew on a weekend getaway or handing a longer road trip in comfort and style, it is more expensive than rivals in its class and I found its power feeble.

Consumer Reports says the Jeep Grand Cherokee has particularly low reliability.

Conclusion - you may have great luck with any of the above, and I hope you do. Comments welcome, pro or con. JM

Russia Maps Show 25% of Moscow Without Power Amid Winter Freeze 'Emergency'

R ussian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the nationalization of an ammunition plant in Moscow after a mechanical failure caused tens of thousands of Muscovites to lose heat and water amid freezing temperatures beginning last week.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is around 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes in the Moscow region amid subzero temperatures.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov, Naro-Fominsk, and Podolsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky, and Selyatino are also without power.

That means that in total, more than a quarter of Moscow's cities have been hit with power outages and a lack of heating.

Newsweek has contacted Russia's Foreign Ministry for comment via email.

Many residents have taken to publishing video appeals on social media to complain about their freezing conditions. In one clip, people living in Moscow say that they are left with no choice but to warm their homes with gas stoves, heaters, and "whatever else we can find." Others said they are lighting fires in the streets to keep warm.

Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, announced on Tuesday that Putin ordered the ammunition plant to be nationalized because two of its owners have been "located abroad." He didn't name the individuals.

"We received the right to take control of this boiler house within the framework of an emergency," Vorobiev said, adding that the plant's boiler room was managed "very poorly" and there was "virtually no qualified competent personnel."

Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant not meeting safety requirements.

On Tuesday, the committee said that because of the incident, the deputy head of Podolsk's administration, the head of the plant's boiler house, and the general director of the ammunition plant had been detained.

Residents of Selyatino have described the situation as "some kind of struggle for survival," Russian Telegram channel ASTRA reported.

Power outages have also struck St. Petersburg, Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh, Primorsky Territory, and Yekaterinburg.

PSG : feux d’artifice, discours et tour d’honneur... Les images de la cérémonie pour le record de Marquinhos

Après avoir dépassé le record du nombre de matchs disputés sous le maillot parisien détenu auparavant par Jean-Marc Pilorget, le capitaine parisien a été fêté par le Parc des Princes après la victoire des siens. Pour l’occasion, sa famille et ses partenaires étaient réunis.

Onze ans de PSG et 28 trophées ! Dimanche soir dans la foulée du large succès face à l’Olympique Lyonnais (4-1), Paris avait quelque chose à fêter. On ne parlait pas là de la qualification pour la demi-finale de la Ligue des champions contre Dortmund qui aura lieu le 1er et 7 mai mais bien du capitaine Marquinhos.

Lors du match aller du quart de finale de C1, le capitaine brésilien avait laissé à jamais son empreinte dans l’histoire du club de la capitale en dépassant le record du nombre de matchs disputés détenu auparavant par Jean-Marc Pilorget.

Jusque-là lui et Paris n’avaient pas souhaité fêter cette marque si importante, préférant rester focalisé sur l’échéance européenne majeure qui attendait l’équipe première face à Barcelone. Logiquement mercredi au retour de Catalogne, tout s’est accéléré pour honorer « Marqui » au sortir de la rencontre face à Lyon et les détails ont été peaufinés en collaboration avec l’entourage du joueur vendredi et samedi.

Un peu à l’image de ce qui avait été fait pour Angel Di Maria au moment de son départ en 2022 et de Kylian Mbappé lors de l’officialisation de sa prolongation le même jour, une grande bâche à l’effigie du club avait été déployée avec une grande banderole agrémentée de photos du capitaine et du chiffre 436, bien qu’il en soit désormais à 438. Un point que Michel Montana, le speaker du Parc des Princes n’avait visiblement pas noté au moment d’accueillir le héros du jour.

Il est un peu plus de 23h05 quand les partenaires du parisien viennent se poster à la sortie du tunnel et forment une haie d’honneur. De Kylian Mbappé à Ousmane Dembélé, qui ne sont pas entrés en jeu, au suspendu Lucas Hernandez, en passant par Luis Henrique et Luis Campos, tous ou presque ont enfilé le t-shirt à l’effigie du Brésilien.

Au bout de la haie d’honneur, le président Al-Khelaïfi l’attend pour lui remettre le trophée en forme de tour Eiffel. Le capitaine sort, quelques secondes plus tard, sous les vivas du public, accompagné de sa femme Carol, de ses trois enfants, son frère et son père. Après avoir été honoré par son président, le Brésilien rejoint l’estrade placée au centre de la pelouse sur un gigantesque drapeau aux couleurs du club.

« C’est beaucoup d’émotion pour moi, glisse Marquinhos à un Parc des Princes à l’écoute. C’est la plus grande fierté pour moi que de porter ce trophée. » Ses « remerciements » au président Al-Khelaïfi, « le premier à me faire confiance » dit-il, sont salués d’un tonnerre d’applaudissements par les tribunes.

« Le PSG, c’est ma vie », poursuit-il avec des mots qui ravissent son auditoire. Bien sûr, le Brésilien n’oublie pas de remercier ses coéquipiers « qui le protègent », ses différents entraîneurs, mais aussi Jean-Marc Pilorget , détenteur pendant 35 ans du précédent record (435 matchs).

Après avoir glissé un mot pour les supporters, leur avoir assuré « qu’il n’avait jamais rien lâché, jamais triché », le capitaine a évidemment promis le meilleur pour la fin de saison. « Le championnat, la Coupe de France et la Ligue des champions, on va aller les chercher a-t-il terminé dans un discours qui a déclenché l’euphorie des tribunes.

Une fois ce cérémonial passé, Marquinhos s’offrait un tour de terrain accompagné par sa famille s’arrêtant un long moment devant la tribune Auteuil, alors que le Parc s’était très largement vidé. Des fumigènes, des chants venaient célébrer l’international auriverde qui brandissait son trophée avant d’agiter l’un des drapeaux du kop et de lancer les chants.

À ses côtés, même sa fille aînée frappait dans ses mains, sautait et accompagnait son père pour mettre l’ambiance. Tandis que le personnel du Parc attendait pour enlever la bâche au centre du terrain, le capitaine reprenait une dernière fois le micro épelant les lettres de Paris puis remerciant un à un les kapos du virage. Comme s’il avait du mal à quitter ceux qui sont restés jusqu’au bout pour le célébrer. Qu’ils se rassurent le capitaine, sous contrat jusqu’en 2028, il devrait encore être là pour un bon moment.
