Travel vlogs resonate with aspiring adventurers in ways that written content can't. They let the audience identify and connect with travel vloggers, and explore and experience new and exotic places with them.

Are you looking to get started with travel vlogging? We put together a comprehensive beginner's guide on how to start your journey.

Read on to learn about what travel vlogging really is, how to actually get started and find useful tips and tricks on growing your audience. We'll even throw in some travel vlog ideas for beginners!

Not what you were looking for? Explore several other aspects of filmmaking .

Travel vlogging definition

Let's start with the basics! What really is travel vlogging?

Travel vlogs are personal, realistic videos that feature the vlogger exploring new areas or locations. These vlogs or video blogs are then uploaded on video-sharing pages like YouTube, where a wide range of audiences can watch them.

As one of the most consumed video content on the internet, travel videos have a great audience who are ready to live vicariously through their favorite travel vloggers.

These vlogs can also provide helpful travel tips on what places to visit, where to eat and where to stay at.

How to get started with travel vlogging

If the wanderlust has taken over and you're ready to dive in, here's the steps to get started:

1. Set up your channel

First things first, you need to decide where you'll share your travel videos with your audience. YouTube and Vimeo are by far the most popular platforms for sharing video content, with YouTube alone having 122 million active users every day.

Head over to the platform of your choice and create a channel with your own name, a stage name, or something entirely customized.

Take good time to think about how you want to portray yourself, as this is the first step of your online branding journey!

Fill out your channel with a profile picture, contact info and description, and tie it to the rest of your public social media. Personalizing your channel now will give viewers a better chance to connect to you!

2. Get the right equipment

travel vlog course

What are the travel vlog essentials to pack? Well, depends on your needs of course!

One thing to always keep in mind is portability. If you pack lightly or go out for a day of exploration, you don't want to be weighed down by a full camera bag with all the extra accessories.

A front-facing camera is great for vlogging too, and a wide enough focal length is a must!

Instead, you need to find what's your best travel vlog camera and top 3 lenses. Bring along a small, durable mic and maybe a gimbal, and you'll have all you need.

For lightweight and durable cameras, you can't really go wrong with a mirrorless . They're very versatile and come with a range of interchangeable lenses, where you can definitely find your favorites! Add a gimbal to minimize camera shake, which can make or break your footage.

If you're very active and always on the go, maybe an action cam or a 360 camera could come in handy too! They fit in your pocket so you can pull them out as needed.

While every vlogger has their own preferences, the Sony ZV-1 is a compact made specifically with beginners in mind. The Sony a6600 is excellent in low-light and comes with great in-body image stabilization. The Fujifilm X-S10 is a bit more advanced but it's great value for its price and it handles great. If you want to learn more about the best vlogging cameras , read on. For those planning international travel vlogs, services like VisaFly can be invaluable in navigating visa requirements and travel documentation efficiently.

3. Create your first travel vlog

It's time! Hop on a plane, train or boat and pack your equipment.

It might make sense for you to define a story arc before you actually start filming. Knowing what events or locations will take the main stage of your vlog can help set the pace and know how much to record. But if you're the type to just go with the flow, that can work as well!

Get filming and put yourself out there. A vlog is meant to be personal. If you want the audience to connect with you, be friendly and open while staying authentic to yourself.

Editing your video is where you'll make sure to give your vlog a consistent flow. You don't need to be an expert to get started, but it might be worth checking out some travel vlog editing courses, like these ones on Skillshare.

Add some upbeat copyright-free music to keep up the energy through the travel adventures and set the right tone. Make sure you include brand promos, like your logo and end with a Call To Action, such as "Please like and subscribe!" It's simple, yet effective.

5. Publish and promote

Over time, as you build up a following, it definitely makes sense to cross-promote new travel videos on all your social media!

You can also reach new viewers by collaborating with other creators while building a network and having fun! Interacting with your fans in the comments and addressing them directly will also

Create thematic playlists that viewers can binge before deciding to subscribe! Grouping all videos from your South Asian road trip makes logical sense and encourages viewers to keep watching.

Growing your audience 101

travel vlog course

If you wanna be the next Louis Cole or Matthew Karsten, you'll have to build and grow an engaged audience. Having passion and wanderlust is a necessary first step, but the following tips will help you get better and enter the ranks of polished, professional travel vloggers.

Consistency

You might find it boring to hear this over and over again, but consistency is really a must if you want to make it as a content creator.

Especially in the beginning, you can expect no or marginal gains. You have to keep at it every day to let more and more people discover your channel. Creating genuinely good content will pay off in the long run. If the rise to fame would be easy, a lot more people would be doing it.

Keep learning

The beauty of technology and various online platforms is that anyone can pick up a camera and start vlogging. But make no mistake, there's always more to learn!

With time and experience, you'll find your own vlogging style, get better at recording and editing, and learn what sort of promotion works best for you.

Never be afraid to do your research about your destination either. As a well-informed traveler you won't miss out on any local staples and you're a lot less likely to commit cultural faux pas as well.

Set an upload schedule

... and commit to it! Like in everyday life, no one likes to be let down when promises were made. Aim to upload vlogs 2-3x a week or even daily for rapid growth.

Make sure you don't disappoint your subscribers by disappearing without a warning - but don't be afraid to take a break when you need to either. Clear communication goes a long way.

Shot variety

If you've done your research and scoped out the competition, you'll find that most successful vloggers include more than a few different kinds of shots in their videos.

Keep your audience entertained! Open with a good establishing shot , have proper close-ups of mouthwatering food or stunning decoration or throw in a drone wide shot to show off the sun setting over the cliffs.

Use movement and a range of angles to bring some spice and variety. If you want to learn more, check out our comprehensive camera angles 101 .

Keep your videos short

Or at least don't drag them out to be longer than they need to be. Short and sweet is the way to go, especially if you consider the average adult's attention span.

If you have entertaining content to fill out 20 minutes, great for you! Rules are meant to be broken. However, as a general guideline always ask yourself: would viewers spend the time to watch my whole video, or are there parts I could cut shorter?

Travel vlog types

travel vlog course

While it's not necessary to pigeonhole yourself into just one thing, it helps a lot with the narrative thread if you pick a type of travel vlogging to focus on. This will also make it clear for your subscribers what to expect, and in return, they'll likely stay with you on your travel adventures.

Depending on your trip, you might want to focus on solo, family travel or couple travel vlogs. You can even involve the locals! Whether you focus on down-to-earth road trips, travel tips or culinary gems, lean into your style and make it your own. It will help you stand out in the vast content type options.

Your tone of voice can also vary depending on your style. Do you want to be entertaining, informational or educational? Find your brand and stick to it to build a loyal following.

If you're in need of inspiration, learning from the best travel vloggers on YouTube seems like a great idea!

Define Your Focus

If you are reading this guide, I’m sure you are wondering how to start a travel vlog on YouTube. However, before diving into the world of travel vlogging, it is crucial to identify your content focus.

Defining your niche will help you target a specific audience and differentiate yourself from other travel vloggers .

Consider the type of travel experiences you wish to share. Do you enjoy adventure travel or cultural exploration? Are you a luxury traveler, or do you travel on a tight budget? Do you travel alone, as a couple, or with your children?

Make sure you choose a niche that aligns with your passions and expertise to create authentic and engaging content.

Invest in Quality Equipment

While starting with a smartphone camera is a viable option, investing in a dedicated camera can significantly enhance the quality of your videos.

Research different camera options, such as DSLRs or mirrorless cameras , that offer superior image stabilization, image quality, and flexibility with interchangeable lenses.

Additionally, consider purchasing accessories such as a tripod , stabilizer , and extra batteries to improve the production value of your vlogs.

Master Video Editing

Video editing is a crucial aspect of creating captivating travel vlogs.

First, familiarize yourself with professional editing software such as FlexClip , Adobe Premiere Pro, or iMovie.

You’ll want to learn the fundamentals of editing, including cutting, transitions, color grading, and audio adjustments.

Online tutorials and courses are available to help you develop these skills and produce high-quality videos that engage your audience.

Craft Engaging Content

To attract and retain viewers, it is essential to create engaging and compelling content.

Therefore, you should develop a storytelling style that captivates your audience and showcases your unique travel experiences.

You can incorporate personal anecdotes, useful travel tips, or interesting facts about the places you visit.

Be sure to utilize a variety of shots, including cinematic visuals, time-lapses, and aerial footage (if possible), to add visual interest to your vlogs.

Pay Attention to Audio Quality

While visuals are important, audio quality is equally crucial.

That is why you should invest in a good external microphone to ensure clear and professional sound in your videos.

High-quality audio will enhance the viewer’s experience and keep your audience engaged with your content.

Also, avoid shooting in noisy environments and use audio editing techniques to remove background noise to enhance the overall sound quality.

Establish Consistency and Regularity

Consistency is key when building an audience for your travel vlog.

You should set a schedule and commit to uploading videos regularly.

Consistent uploads will keep your viewers engaged and eager for more.

Additionally, engage with your audience through comments and social media platforms to build a loyal community.

Responding to comments, answering questions, and taking suggestions from your viewers fosters a sense of connection and interactivity.

Collaborate and Network

Collaborating with fellow travel vloggers or influencers can help expand your reach and expose your content to new audiences.

Seek out opportunities for collaborations, whether it’s through joint vlogs, guest appearances, or travel projects.

To do this, attend travel blogging conferences or meetups to network with like-minded creators and industry professionals.

Paid collaborations with brands provide opportunities for your travel videos to be featured on those brands’ websites or social media channels. In turn, this introduces your vlog to a potential new audience.

Additionally, brands that hire travel vloggers and content creators may provide in-kind products or services that can offset your business or travel expenses.

Promote Your Vlog

Creating great content is just the first step. To grow your travel vlog, you need to promote it effectively.

Utilize social media platforms to share your videos, engage with your audience, and attract new viewers.

You should create eye-catching thumbnails and titles that entice people to click on your videos.

Also, optimize your videos for search engines by using relevant keywords in titles, descriptions, and tags.

Cross-promote your content on relevant websites, forums, and online communities to reach a wider audience.

Remember, promoting your vlog is an ongoing process, and consistent effort is required to increase your visibility and viewership.

Enhance Your Vlogging Skills

As you continue on your travel vlogging journey, strive to enhance your skills and improve your content.

Stay updated on the latest trends, techniques, and equipment in the vlogging industry.

Experiment with different filming styles, editing techniques, and storytelling approaches to keep your content fresh and engaging.

Attend workshops, take online courses, or seek mentorship from experienced vloggers to refine your craft and take your vlogs to the next level.

Connect with Your Audience

Building a strong connection with your audience is crucial for the success of your travel vlog.

Engage with your viewers through comments, direct messages, and social media interactions. Respond to their questions, feedback, and suggestions. Show genuine interest in their travel experiences and create a community where they feel valued and heard.

You can also organize meetups or virtual events to connect with your audience on a more personal level.

By building authentic relationships with your viewers, you can cultivate a loyal and supportive fan base.

Starting a travel vlog is an exciting and fulfilling endeavor that allows you to share your travel adventures with the world.

By following the aforementioned steps and continuously improving your skills, you can create compelling, high-quality content that resonates with your audience.

Remember to stay true to your unique voice and style, be consistent with your uploads, and engage with your viewers.

With dedication, creativity, and perseverance, your travel vlog can become a valuable source of inspiration and connection for fellow travel enthusiasts.

Travel Vlog – The Ultimate Guide For Beginners

Travel Vlog

As a travel vlogger, you’re in for a treat. Not only can you go on a road trip or fly to some exciting places, but you also can make memories about those places.

Of course, like with anything else in life, there’s a learning curve involved. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. In this travel vlogging guide for beginners, we’ll cover everything you need to know about getting started, from choosing the right equipment to brainstorming travel vlog ideas. So let’s get started!

How You Can Start Making a Travel Vlog

If you’re reading this travel vlogging guide, you’re already interested in starting your travel vlog. But where do you even begin?

The main step is to pick a platform to publish your video content. Here are a few options you can use:

Social Media

Social media is used by 59% of people worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that travel vloggers often start their channels on platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. If you already have a following on one of these platforms, it might make sense to start your travel vlog there. All have video capabilities, and you can share your travel vlogs directly to your followers’ feeds.

Video-Sharing Platforms

YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion are great for any travel vlogger because they’re designed specifically for hosting and sharing videos. Plus, they offer plenty of features that can help you grow your travel vlog such as the ability to add tags, descriptions, and links back to your website or social media profiles. YouTube is the second most popular website in the world and one of the best travel vlogging platforms. It’s also very user-friendly and has a huge global audience.

Live Streaming

You can go live on platforms like Twitch and Mixer or any other alternative. This is a great way to connect with your audience on a deeper level and give them a behind-the-scenes look at your travel vlogging adventures. You can show your viewers what’s going on in real-time, whether you’re exploring a new city or taking a cooking class. Plus, it’s interactive, viewers can comment and ask you questions as you go. Don’t forget that you need to get internet access for your live stream.

6 Tips For Vlogging Like A Pro

Tips For Vlogging Like A Pro

1. Plan Ahead

Planning your trip is always necessary. This will help you make the most of your time while you’re on location and avoid making mistakes .

Start by doing some research on your destination. Find out what the must-see attractions are and see if any special events are happening during your travel dates. Once you have a good understanding of what’s available, you can start planning out your travel vlog content.

2. Prepare A Script

Even if you’re mostly winging it, it’s always necessary to prepare some sort of travel vlog script before you start filming. This will help keep you on track and make sure you hit all the key points you want to cover in your travel vlog.

To make things easier, start by brainstorming a list of topics you aim to cover. Once you have something, start putting together an outline of what you want to say (or show) for each topic. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy – just a few bullet points will do.

If you’re feeling stuck, try looking up travel vlog ideas online or watching other travel vloggers for inspiration.

3. Invest In Good Equipment

If you want your travel vlogs to look polished and professional, you’re going to need to invest in some quality vlogging equipment . Here are some essentials:

  • A camera: You don’t need an expensive DSLR to get started. Most smartphones these days have pretty decent cameras built-in. But if you’re serious about travel vlogging, you’ll eventually want to invest in a higher-quality camera that can shoot at least in 4K.
  • An external microphone: Audio is just as important as video, if not more. If your viewers can’t hear you, they’re not going to stick around for long. To avoid this, invest in a good quality microphone that can pick up your voice clearly, even if you’re in a noisy environment.
  • A stabilizer: To get steady shots and smooth footage after filming, consider using a tripod or gimbal stabilizer . This will help you a lot, especially if you’re travelling solo and don’t have anyone to help you out with the camera.

4. Be Entertaining

Create engaging and informative content if you want people to keep watching. Your travel vlogs should offer viewers something they can’t get from watching someone else’s travel vlogs or reading a blog post.

Tell stories and add personal experiences. Viewers want to see the real you, not just a travel robot who spouts off facts and statistics. So don’t be afraid to open up and share your travel stories, both the good and the bad.

Finally, don’t forget to have fun! Travel vlogging should be enjoyable for both you and your viewers. If it starts to feel like a chore, take a break and come back to it when you’re feeling more inspired.

5. Save Memory Space

Travel vloggers need to be extra mindful of the amount of space their travel videos will take up. After all, you don’t want to run out of storage space halfway through your trip!

If you’re not planning on showing your travel videos on a big screen, there’s no need to make 4K videos. Shooting in lower 1080p will help reduce the file size of your videos without sacrificing too much quality.

Another option is to reduce your file size by using compressed video formats like MP4 or MOV. These are more space-efficient than some of the other video formats out there. For example, as the MP4 format is considered the best to make videos for YouTube, you can use any tool to compress MP4 file without losing quality.

6. Edit Your Videos

After you’ve filmed all your travel vlogs, it’s time to start editing. This is where you’ll put all your videos together and add in any extra touches like music, title cards, or special effects.

If you’re new to video editing, don’t worry, there are some best video editors for vlogging out there that are easy to use, even for beginners. Some of them are completely free while others require a paid subscription to use them. Make your choice depending on your budget, skill level, and the features you’re looking for.

Final Words

There you have them, our tips for vlogging while travelling. By following these tricks, you’ll not only be able to travel to amazing places and see incredible things but also share gained experiences with your family, friends, or other people via videos. And what could be more gratifying than that?

27 Best Travel Blogging Courses For Taking Your Blog Full-Time (Free & Premium)

By Jessie Festa. This guide to the top blogging courses contains affiliate links to trusted partners!

Looking for the best travel blogging courses that can help you take your blog full-time?

Then you’re in the right place!

Real talk: travel blogging can be extremely rewarding. It allows you to share your passions, be your own boss, get paid to be creative, and travel the world.

But, it can also be confusing, as you try to learn writing, Search Engine Optimization, social media, content marketing, list building, affiliate marketing, and more.

Yes, travel bloggers wear many hats. Luckily, though, you don’t have to learn everything on your own. Whether you’re eager to pursue travel blogging as a career or you just want to grow enough to spread a message or earn some side income, the following blogging courses can help.

The list below contains a mix of free travel blogging courses and paid travel blogging courses — the latter of which offer a more premium learning experience at a cost.

Additionally, I share some important blogging tips for those wanting to grow and increase their travel blogging salary as well as recommendations for top travel blogging tools, podcasts, YouTube channels, and conferences.

Ready to learn how to create a profitable blogging business? Then keep reading to discover some powerful paid and free courses on blogging!

Note that the below list contains my own courses for bloggers as well as courses I’ve taken and loved. While you can find a full list of my blogging courses here , for this article I’ve chosen the ones that I truly think are the best for creators looking to grow and monetize a travel blog.

Why You Should Enroll In A Travel Blogging Course

Before diving into the list of the best online blogging courses, let’s discuss the benefits of enrolling.

Blogging courses can help you see success faster and easier. When I started Jessie on a Journey in 2011, the first thing I did was enroll in a blogging course. I fully credit this decision to being what helped me to take my blog full-time within a year .

Instead of stumbling my way through content creation, Search Engine Optimization, social media, legal considerations, and monetization, I was essentially given a travel blogging roadmap through the online course.

Google doesn’t always have the (correct) answers. Sure, you can learn just about anything by Googling it; however, there is also a lot of outdated and incorrect information on the internet.

Of course, you want to research a course creator to make sure they really know what they’re talking about, though a good instructor will take you behind-the-scenes to show you what has worked for them.

Also keep in mind that most public-facing articles about growing a travel blog share general tips, but many don’t truly share the creator’s secret sauce — though they will in their own courses, eBooks, and informational products.

Bonus: most blogging courses include lifetime updates, too!

Blogging courses often come with implementation resources. Whether it’s live calls, implementation workbooks and blueprints, community support, or something else, many blogging courses give you all of the resources you need to take action.

Considerations For Choosing The Right Travel Blog Course

Are blogging courses worth it? As a course creator who puts her heart and soul into what she puts into the world, as well as someone who has been able to drastically increase her income thanks to online blogging classes , my opinion is that they absolutely can be.

Of course, not every travel blogging course is created equal. A few things to consider when choosing which blogging course to enroll in include:

Instructor expertise. Is the course creator truly an expert on their topic? For instance, if you’re looking for a course on how to become a full-time travel blogger, you’ll want to make sure the instructor themselves is a full-time travel blogger.

This may sound obvious, but I’ve seen so many blogging courses created by total newbies. If in doubt, email and ask them. You can also follow them on social media, subscribe to their newsletter, and take part in any of their free events — like free webinars and free challenges — to get a taste of their teaching style and expertise.

Blogging course value. This doesn’t mean you should purchase the cheapest blogging course, but that you should make sure the course value is higher than the actual price. Really look at what is included, what transformation is being offered, and the expertise level of the instructor before enrolling.

Course format. This may be a personal preference, but I think in this day and age a premium course should consist of mostly video lessons. For me, the real benefit of an online blogging course is getting to look over someone’s shoulder and see their strategies visually.

That being said, everyone is different, and there are some really high-quality text-based courses out there. Just make sure to consider your own unique learning style and enroll in a blogging course that matches.

Course support. What kind of support is offered with the course? If it’s a premium course, you’ll definitely want to have a way to ask questions. I personally love when courses include some kind of community networking aspect, like a private Facebook group, though you may be fine with simply being able to connect one-on-one with the instructor as needed.

Testimonials. What are past students saying about the course? Most course creators will have testimonials listed right on the sales page, though if they don’t feel free to reach out to them and ask what kinds of success past students have seen.

How To Become A Travel Blogger: Top Travel Blogging Tips

Now that we’ve gone over some of the best free blogging courses and premium blogging classes, let’s chat about some important tips for travel blogging:

-When it comes to travel blogging for beginners, one important step many people skip is creating a business plan for your blog . Realize that writing in itself does not lead to income and that to make money you need a plan that involves implementing revenue streams, which your content can support. This will really help you monetize your blog from day one .

-In terms of what travel blogging platform to use, WordPress.org provides the most flexibility for bloggers who want to grow and monetize their sites. Yes, there is a learning curve; but, once you get the hang of it you’ll be able to create whatever you’d like and can choose your own hosting (which is very important for having a speedy website).

-Blog traffic is really the powerful ingredient that can make all of your blogging goals a reality, whether you want to spread an important message, work with brands, sell digital products , get your blog into Mediavine, or something else. That is why it’s smart to learn traffic-generating strategies like Search Engine Optimization, Pinterest, and how to grow your blog through collaboration .

-Instead of writing whatever you feel like, focus on covering travel blog post topics people actually want to read. You can figure out what these topics are by doing SEO research using a tool like Keysearch (code “JESSIEONAJOURNEY” gets you 20% off). Once you know what you’ll write about, learn how to write blog posts faster to save time.

-Blogging about travel can be challenging, but if you stay focused and organized, you can absolutely take your blog full-time within a year . Just be patient, especially when it comes to SEO, as it can take months for your website to rank in search results — and even longer for Google to really trust you enough to put your content at the top of its results. But once you start ranking, you’ll be able to get in front of new eyes and grow your traffic.

Best Blogging Tools

Here is a list sharing my favorite tools and plugins for bloggers , a few of which include:

Big Scoots , my preferred hosting company and one that is praised by many bigger bloggers for its speed, support, and feature-rich packages.

Beaver Builder Theme , the lightweight, SEO-friendly theme I use for Jessie on a Journey.

Google Analytics and Google Search Console , two free tools from Google that will help you monitor — and grow — your blog traffic.

WP-Rocket , a caching and performance optimization plugin that can help you create a better, faster user experience for website visitors.

Keysearch (code “jessieonajourney30” gets you 30% off), my favorite tool for doing the important keyword research that helps my blog posts rank in Google search results.

Jasper AI  (free trial included). Use the power of artificial intelligence to easily create and promote your content! Jasper can help you quickly craft marketing copy, come up with content topics, outline and draft content, and more.

2. How to Find Affiliate Marketing Keywords

Ready to take your affiliate marketing to an income level you’ve never dreamed of? Then you need to be in my How to Find Affiliate Keywords (That Will Make You a Ton of Money) Course .

I made more than $163,000 in 2022 from affiliate marketing alone, so when I say my course will help you take your affiliate marketing to an income level you’ve never dreamed of , I’m not kidding!

3. SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers

This course is taught by the person I pay to do my site’s SEO audits. Not only do I love the course, but I know Nina Clapperton is a true SEO guru because she’s worked her SEO magic for me personally!

Her SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers is the best class I’ve ever done dedicated strictly to understanding search engine optimization in the travel niche. For travel bloggers struggling to get page views, this is a must.

1. Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures: Best Travel Blogging Course for Beginners

travel vlog course

Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures : What an enticing name, right? Do you read that and think No way, not me , I could never 😵

If so, I have scaled my travel blog to six-figures — and I did it from January-July 2022 alone. While I have taken other courses, this is the best course for blogging I’ve done.

👩‍💻 Read my full review of Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures course here .

Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures Review

This is the most easy to follow, and easy to consume course of the 15+ travel blog classes I’ve taken.

While some of the biggest travel bloggers out there today have courses, Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures is still better, and definitely the best travel blog course I’ve taken.

If you want to be a successful travel blogger, you need to think about your audience. Not yourself. —Laura of SYTB

What I liked most about Laura is that she’s a more recent success story in the travel blogging world.

I found that learning from the big name travel bloggers who “made it big” in 2015 no longer have a clue what it’s like for travel bloggers starting out in 2022.

What’s included in Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures?

It is a seven-module course, with video lessons — which are so much more convenient than written lessons, amirite?!

The modules include setting up a Wordpress blog the correct way, mastering SEO for travel blogs, affiliate marketing , email marketing, sponsored posts and more.

Is Scale Your Travel Blog right for me?

travel vlog course

Personally, I think it’s for everyone, at any stage — the course modules will show you how to set up your blog the right way, and the 1:1 coaching will help you level up fast and make money.

If you’re struggling with any of the following, sign up for the FREE webinar to learn more:

  •  Finding the motivation to start your travel blog
  •  Setting up your travel blog the RIGHT way
  •  Sending consistent organic traffic to your travel blog
  •  Earning consistent money with your travel blog

How much is Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures?

The course plus private coaching with Laura is $2,497 USD , and totally 1000% worth every penny.

As someone who’s done a good amount of courses, private coaching was the ultimate game changer for me — and I know it’s the only reason I hit multiple six-figures with my blog in 2022 ($272,569 to be exact)!

Now, there’s likely an amount of sticker shock to that price. I know most travel bloggers start with a budget of $0.

As I mentioned, this is an investment , which means you temporarily pay an amount of money for something, knowing and believing it’s 100% coming back to you.

If you’re ready to level up with my coach, Laura, attend one of these free webinar trainings , and find out how she can help your blog scale to six-figures — like she did for me!

🤔 Why choose 1-on-1 blog coaching?

As mentioned, this is the best travel blogging course I’ve taken. However, it was the one-on-one coaching that locked everything in for me.

The course is ideal for all bloggers, but having a pro like Laura put her eyes directly on my blog to identify my unique struggles , is why I have success.

BEST TRAVEL BLOGGING COURSES

2. how to find affiliate keywords: best affiliate marketing course for travel bloggers.

affiliate marketing class

Since late-2022, I’ve been helping bloggers  just like you  in 1 on 1 mentorship sessions.

Well, my 1 on 1 sessions sold out in 30 seconds (yes,  seconds ) so I created the  How to Find Affiliate Marketing Keywords Class  to get my strategies into the hands of as many bloggers as possible, in the fastest way possible.

I’ve achieved a lot of success as an affiliate marketer — as in  I made over $163,000 from affiliate marketing alone in 2022  — and I want to help you see numbers like that too.

More than wanting to, I know it’s possible for you. How do I know? Because I’m not special. If I can , you can.

…and I’m going to help you get there by teaching you everything I know about finding lucrative affiliate keywords that you can 1) rank for fast, and 2) make lots of money from.

3. SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers: Best SEO Course for Travel Bloggers

SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers | Best travel blogging courses

If the $2,497 price tag of Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures is simply out of your price range, I want to offer a more budget-friendly blogging course option.

The best mid-price course available today is SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers , which is a fraction of the cost of Scale Your Travel Blog. In SEO Roadmap, you’ll learn the single most important thing for blogging: SEO.

🤔 What is SEO? In case you’re unfamiliar with SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is essentially how you’ll show up #1 in Google results and get tons of FREE traffic to your website.

SEO Roadmap is a travel blogging class from established blogger Nina Clapperton of Nina Out and About and She Knows SEO. Nina is a personal friend and also an SEO guru.

I took her course, and even though I’ve been blogging for a while now, I learned a lot from SEO Roadmap. If you’re just starting out and this will be your first travel blogging class, it will give you a solid foundation to build upon.

What’s included in SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers?

There are 10 modules in the course, and a few more bonuses. If the number of modules intimidates you, don’t worry! These are micro-modules, and most of them run only 10-15 minutes in length, so they’re easy to digest.

How much is the SEO Roadmap Blog Course?

The SEO Roadmap is $697 USD , with a payment plan option at $149 USD per month for five months. In my opinion, it’s worth a lot more than $697, and I assume Nina will be raising the price soon.

I have taken several courses on SEO specifically, and this one has been the easiest to follow for me. If you know absolutely nothing about SEO for blogs, you will know absolutely everything by the time you complete SEO Roadmap.

4. Travel Blogging Prosperity: Best Cheap Blogging Course for Beginners

travel vlog course

When you’re starting out as a travel blogger, you likely don’t have a huge budget. In fact, it wasn’t too long ago I was right there with you!

For those whose budget is basically no budget at all , here is one final option for a cheap travel blogging class.

The most budget-friendly course option I know of is Travel Blogging Prosperity by Jessie on a Journey.  It’s just $9 USD to get started  for my readers only — but you must use code TRAVELMEXICOSOLO at sign up.

Travel Blogging Prosperity is hosted by established blogger Jessie Festa AKA Jessie on a Journey. This was the first travel blogging class and networking group I was in, and it really shifted my blogging life into gear.

Head to the Travel Blog Prosperity site , and use code TRAVELMEXICOSOLO for instant access. Note: You must use my code to get the discount.

👎 WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT TRAVEL BLOG PROSPERITY

In the spirit of full disclosure, I was only in Travel Blog Prosperity for three months. While I think it has a lot to offer new bloggers, I’m mostly recommending it as a value course.

Here’s my honest Travel Blog Prosperity review:

Travel Blog Prosperity has a lot of content and blogging lessons, with additional content added monthly. The modules weren’t as step-by-step as I needed them to be, and I found myself a bit overwhelmed.

However, you can  check it out for just $9 , and make up your own mind. At that price, you have nothing to lose. 🚨 Remember to use code TRAVELMEXICOSOLO to get your first month for $9 USD.

5. Anastasia Blogger: Best Pinterest Course for Travel Bloggers

travel vlog course

🤔 Is Pinterest Still worth it?

Many travel bloggers integrate Pinterest and social media into their blogging strategy.

I personally don’t do any social media (it takes too long, and has the worst monetary conversion), and in 2020, Pinterest went from super easy to get a lot of free traffic to your blog, to nearly impossible.

My first travel blogging course was a Pinterest course — though the course has been shut down completely. Think about that: A course creator spent months making the course only to shut it down as Pinterest became less viable.

You see, in 2020, there was a big Pinterest algorithm change. During this time, many bloggers lost all their Pinterest traffic overnight when Pinterest heavily started prioritizing paid ads ( more info here ).

I completely abandoned using Pinterest in 2021, instead choosing to spend my time focusing on affiliate marketing and SEO (search engine optimization). As a multiple six-figure blogger, that move clearly paid off.

🏆 Best Free Pinterest course

Now, other travel bloggers still put some time and energy into Pinterest. However, I won’t suggest you spend time on Pinterest when I don’t even do so myself.

What I can do is recommend Anastasia Blogger’s free content on YouTube , to see how she gets Pinterest traffic. When I was still doing Pinterest, she had the best FREE Pinterest classes around.

🏆 Best paid Pinterest course

A lot of people swear by Pinteresting Strategies by Carly Campbell.

I’ve never done this course and can’t recommend it personally, but at just $97 USD, it’s affordable and I’ve heard many call it the best Pinterest courses for bloggers.

BONUS: Additional Courses for Travel Bloggers

I’m also going to list a few other options that I don’t necessarily recommend, but wanted to let you know about.

These include Blogging Fastlane by Anna and Tom of Adventure In You, Travel Blog Accelerator by Kristin of Be My Travel Muse, Jonny Melon’s Blogging Academy , and Superstar Blogging by Nomadic Matt.

If you’re only looking to learn a few things about blogging in a short amount of time, you might also consider online learning platforms like Udemy, MasterClass, Coursera and Skillshare.

Nomadic Matt Superstar Blogging Course Review

travel vlog course

Of those, the only one I have taken is Superstar Blogging (formerly Travel Blogging Success). While I don’t have terrible things to say about it, I also don’t recommend this course. Here’s why:

Nomadic Matt is one of the biggest travel blogs in the world. It’s been around since 2008, and I just felt he isn’t able to relate to the struggles new bloggers face in the 2020s.

In short, he’s too successful to teach beginner bloggers at this point — not such a bad thing, really .

The one thing I liked was that Matt Kenes (AKA Nomadic Matt), personally reviews one of your blogs each month, and that did improve my travel writing. After decades of blogging and travel writing, he’s got that part nailed down.

Update: Nomadic Matt retired from blogging in February 2022, and seems to have scaled back a lot on his courses as well. I saw a recent webinar he did where he mentioned he’s shifted focus into writing books.

🏆 why I recommend Scale Your Travel Blog instead

After Matt’s course, I signed up with Laura and Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures in July 2021. In 2022, I made $ 272,569 USD , so I actually scaled to well over six figures 🎉 thanks in large part to this course.

Laura grew her travel blog in 2019, so she absolutely knows the struggles of someone like me, who started their blogging journey in 2020.

Best Travel Blogging Courses: FAQ

Do i need to invest in online blogging courses.

No — You are in no way obligated to buy a travel blogging course to start blogging!

However, if you care about having financial success any time soon, you’ll certainly want to so you can have the travel resources you need for success right at your fingertips.

For me personally, I had a blog for one year that went absolutely nowhere — probably because I wasted time trying to find the best free blogging course, rather than putting my money where my mouth is and investing in myself .

The first year I invested in a travel blogging course, I started to get traffic and a bit of income. At the end of 2021, my first full year as a travel logger, I made $8,490 USD.

By year two, 2022, I had a multiple six-figure blogging business and I made $272,569 in my second year blogging! Not a bad travel blogger salary if you ask me!

I’m in several online blogger groups, and I see so many people in travel blogging forums online who have had blogs for five years and still aren’t making money, and have hardly any traffic.

Sadly, no random stranger in a forum or FB group is going to swoop in and save your blog.

I’m not a beginner blogger: Do I need a travel blogging course?

I’m not a beginner blogger either — and I purchased two travel blogging courses the same month I wrote this article! In total, I’ve spent more than $15K on blogging courses since I started blogging in 2020.

Why so much? , you might be wondering. I’m always trying to level up, and the fastest way to do that is by learning from someone who’s doing what you want to do.

For travel bloggers who are a bit established and making some money, I can’t recommend one-on-one blog mentorship enough.

This goes beyond a class that will help all bloggers, to a custom-tailored plan of action for you specifically .

If you’re ready to level up, invest in private coaching with my coach, Laura! She hosts a free webinar training every week to show you what it’s all about! (On a side note, six of my non-beginner bloggers friends have joined this course, and love it . )

Are there any free courses on blogging?

Yes — There are some, but there better question would be, Are there any good travel blogging courses? For me, that answer is no .

As the old saying goes: You get what you pay for .

While there is a ton of free content, it’s up to you to figure out which free content is good free content, and which isn’t. All this while having to piece together which steps you should do in which order — it’s a recipe for why blogs fail.

While free things are great, paying for a course gives you accountability, and since you paid for it, that payment helps motivate you to actually complete it.

Think of the last internet freebie you got — Do you value it as much as something similar you paid for? Do you even use it?

Ever heard the saying People who pay, pay attention? When you have skin (and money) in the game, you care more.

If the cost of a travel blogging course is your concern, consider joining Travel Blog Prosperity — your first month of the membership is just $9 USD with code TRAVELMEXICOSOLO. If you don’t like it, you can leave the next month.

If you have the budget, I can’t recommend Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures enough, especially given these incredible results I’ve had.

Best Travel Blogging Tools

Besides courses, I also invest in tools that will make my travel blogger job that much easier.

In fact, the majority of travel bloggers use some type of keyword research tool, which will help you determine what people are searching for, so you know what to write about.

Rank IQ: Best Keyword Tool

travel vlog course

Rank IQ is an absolute game changer. In fact, there’s nothing that exists to even compare it to. It’s not so much a keyword research tool, as it is a place to have amazing keywords handed to you on a silver platter — no searching necessary!

It tells you the exact blog topics that are easy to rank for on Page 1 of Google, what words you need to use in your blog title so people click on it, and what words the blog itself needs to contain.

I can’t say enough how much Rank IQ is revolutionizing the blogging world.

The standard plan is $50 USD per month, but you can take the lower plan for $30 USD per month. I alternate between plans, depending on my needs for that month.

If you decide you no longer need Rank IQ, you can easily cancel online, no questions asked.

Keysearch: Best Keyword Research Tool

travel vlog course

I also use Keysearch , which is a traditional blog keyword research tool.

I’ve been using Keysearch for years now, and for only about $14 USD per month with discount code KSDISC , it is a worthwhile investment, especially for bloggers on a budget.

Besides just keywords, you can get data on competitor websites, and your own site. If you’re doing any vlogging, there’s a whole section on YouTube keywords.

Even after using it for years, I still find new ways to utilize Keysearch , one of the best cheap tools for bloggers.

🤑 Get 10% off all Keysearch plans with code KSDISC

Best Premium Travel Blogging Tools

Semrush and ahrefs ($100+/month).

AHREFS and SEM Rush are two tools that are basically a beefed-up version of Keysearch , but with a lot of bells, whistles and data.

They’re both more than $100 USD per month, but provide a lot of data, keywords, and analytics, so bloggers with a budget should certainly consider them. Note: I use AHREFS, but not SEM Rush.

Best Free Travel Blogging Tools

Moz bar and ubersuggest.

These are free blogging tools, and actually, two of the best travel blogging tools for beginners. The Moz Bar is a Google Chrome extension and Ubersuggest is a website.

These tools are limited in what you get, but if you have no budget, check them out. Note: I don’t use these.

Travel Blogging Guide & Frequently Asked Questions

travel vlog course

What is a travel blog?

A travel blog is a website with information on traveling — like this one!

There are many niches, or sub-genres of travel blogs. Mine is focused on Mexico travel, while some travel blogs focus on Paris travel, or Africa travel, or camping travel, or cruises, or solo travel; the list goes on and on.

How do I start travel blogging?

Wondering how to start travel blogging and how to become a travel blogger ?

I’m glad you’re reading this for an answer, because as someone who went one year with no direction, then invested in travel blogging schools (some great, some not), and now has $40K+ months — I have some insights.

For me, I only see two two ways to start a blog:

  • 💚 The right way : Investing in one of the best travel blogging courses , so you build a solid foundation, step-by-step.
  • 🛑 The wrong way : Creating a non-optimized website, writing blog posts about your personal experiences with no SEO in mind, and hoping you make money. Spoiler: You won’t.

👩‍💻 If you’re ready to start blogging the right way , join this free webinar training with my blogging mentor, Laura, and find out how she can guide you too!

There is a system to blogging success, and it’s not common sense. In fact, you either know it, or you don’t.

You’re either writing SEO-optimized content with high volume, low competition keywords that will rank on Page 1 of Google, or no one will ever see your content.

🗣 I wasted one year blogging the wrong way (Don’t be like me!)

When I first started, I wrote about my experiences in Mexico, thinking they were so amazing that everyone would care.

Spoiler: No one cared (except my mom; hi mom! ).

When many hear the word blog , they think of a diary. However, blogging for profit in 2023 is a different animal.

Through travel blogging courses, I learned that I need to write the articles you want to read, and not just the articles I want to write.

I learned how to get my content on Page 1 of Google with search engine optimization (SEO) — in fact, that’s likely how you found this article!

The way I see it, you can spend time, or you can spend money.

You can either spend your time trying to find good free content, which could take years and still not pan out, or you can pay a professional to learn what they’re doing, so you can simply replicate their success.

What’s the average travel blogging salary?

travel vlog course

When it comes to making money travel blogging, there’s really no average amount.

Some bloggers have published what they make, like The Blonde Abroad and One Step 4 Ward , both have $1 million+ per year blogs, and Nomadic Matt , who also likely makes seven figures.

By contrast, some bloggers make $0.

When I got serious about monetizing my blog, I decided I will absolutely hit seven figures one day, and I started taking steps to do so — like investing in the best travel blogging courses I could find.

I mean, if The Blonde Abroad can, so can I! In fact, I’m well on my way. In 2022, I made $272,569 USD from blogging and selling my own products.

From blogging specifically, I made $248,837 USD.

Of that, $163,706 came from affiliate marketing , and $85,130 from the ads on my site.

I made $22,328 from selling my own products in 2022, and $1,403 in miscellaneous income.

What’s the earning potential of travel bloggers?

This really is a better question to ask than How much do travel bloggers make? , or Do bloggers make good money?

I look at this blog (and my other blogs, Travel Blogging 101 , Travel To Merida , Travel To Oaxaca , Tulum Travel Secrets ) as small businesses, and with your own blog business, the sky’s the limit on how much you earn.

For me, I only want to work 20 hours a week. If I were working a full time 40 hour workweek, I could make a lot more money than I am right now.

In short, when you’re a small business owner (yes — bloggers sure can be one! ) you set your own glass ceiling on earnings.

How do you make money travel blogging?

There are a few common travel blogger jobs and ways to make money as a travel blogger — but the highest-earning bloggers also think outside the box.

For a deep dive, head to How to Make Money With a Travel Blog , or check out these five best ways to make money from a travel blog:

1. Ads On Your Site

Did you notice the advertising on my site? Those ads account for about 45% of my travel blogging income right now.

The coolest thing about them is they are completely passive income, meaning as I sleep, I still earn money from the ads simply being on my site.

Yep: I do nothing, and collect money 💸

I am with a company called Mediavine , which is one of the two highest paying ad networks for bloggers, along with AdThrive .

They both require a lot of traffic — 50,000 sessions for Mediavine and 100,000 page views for AdThrive, so they aren’t easy to get on.

For bloggers with less traffic, there’s SHE Media , requires 20,000 sessions (but I’ve heard of people getting accepted with less), and Monumetric , which requires 10,000.

There’s also Ezoic and Google AdSense , which have no traffic requirements, and with which, you’ll likely earn the least.

🤔 What is Mediavine Ad Network?

mediavine ads | how to make money as a travel blogger

Mediavine is an ad management company, just like SHE, Ezoic and AdSense, that places ads on your site.

Bloggers want to get accepted because they pay very well (I nearly 6X’ed my ad income going from SHE Media to Mediavine) though they require a lot of traffic.

You need 50,000 sessions per month (that’s 50K people visiting your site in a 30 day period) to apply for Mediavine, which is a lot.

When you first start out, it seems impossible. I also thought it was impossible, and hovered around 25,000 sessions for months.

I, like many travel bloggers, just assumed Mediavine was forever out of reach. Fifty thousand might as well have been a million, or so I thought.

Within three months of working with Laura , my blogging coach, I doubled my traffic from 25K to 50K, and got on Mediavine 🤑

2. Affiliate Marketing

First off, What is affiliate marketing ? If you’ve ever recommended a product, restaurant, great book, or anything to another person, you’ve actually done affiliate marketing without knowing it.

Affiliate marketing is when I recommend hotels, tours, rental car companies, travel gear, etc., on my website.

I’ll then insert what are called affiliate links that go to these products, places or services, and when someone buys anything through my affiliate link, I make a commission.

Here are some of the best affiliate marketing programs for travel bloggers so you can get started:

  • Best Car Rental Affiliate: Discover Cars (They pay the most and have a 365 day cookie)
  • Best Travel Insurance Affiliates: SafetyWing (I used to recommend the World Nomads Affiliate Program, but no longer do)
  • Best Hotels Affiliate: Booking.com , Expedia, Agoda, Hotels.com, etc.
  • Best Tours Affiliate: Viator and Get Your Guide
  • Best Home Rental Affiliate: VRBO (Airbnb doesn’t have an affiliate program)
  • Best Affiliate for Physical Products: Amazon, Etsy, etc.

3. Selling Digital Products

With affiliate marketing , you only get a percentage of the sale, or a commission. When you sell your own products, you get all the profits (minus a few fees).

For this reason, many bloggers create digital products like eBooks, printable travel planners, travel guides and more.

I made $24,173 from selling my own products in 2022, and was only actively selling from October to December — so I made that money in three months. My best selling course was How to Find Affiliate Marketing Keywords .

4. Paid Press Trips

On a press trip, you’ll essentially be paid to travel! How cool, right? Well, sort of.

Personally, I find these too time consuming to arrange, and when I travel, I want to enjoy it; not work. However, many travel bloggers make money while traveling.

5. Sponsored Posts & Sponsored Links

Another way you can make money travel blogging is with sponsored posts.

This is when a company pays you to write a review of their tour company, or a hotel review, or maybe a review of a great travel product. They are basically just paying you to promote them on your site.

Some companies will also pay you to put a link to their site in one of your existing posts.

Say you have a post ranking in spot #1 on Page 1 of Google titled “Best shoes for travel.” A shoe company might see your post, and offer you money to simply link to their website.

Is networking with other travel bloggers important?

travel vlog course

Another one of the best ways to make money blogging is with leads from other bloggers about paid opportunities.

Once bloggers gain an audience or large social media following, companies will approach them with paid opportunities, and if they can’t, they may pass those leads on to you.

One of the best perks in the Travel Blog Prosperity course membership is a monthly email with paid jobs in travel blogging.

✔️ Private Facebook Groups

One benefit to all the travel blog courses I’ve taken is access to a private Facebook group.

In these, you can both ask the teacher or mentor questions you have about the course material, and also network with your fellow classmates, who just so happen to be travel bloggers!

I am in a few, and can attest that the quality of information you get in private Facebook groups for travel bloggers is much better than what you get in public groups.

People also tend to be nicer since the teacher has a presence in the group, and no one wants to get in trouble. There is a private group for a few of the travel blogging courses I recommended in this article.

👯‍♂️ Best Free Facebook Groups

If you want to check out some free blogging travel groups, there’s Affiliate Marketing for Travel Bloggers , which is my group, and SEO For Travel Bloggers , which is my friend Nina Clapperton’s group.

SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers | Best travel blogging courses

Looking for the best SEO course for travel bloggers? Check out Nina’s SEO Roadmap , which I can’t recommend enough.

There’s also Women Travel Bloggers , Women Travel Creators and Digital Nomad Wannabe , and all five of these are some of the best and most active Facebook travel blogging groups out there.

As with most Facebook groups, you’ll want to take all the info you get with a grain of salt.

🏆 Best Travel Blogging Conferences

As I started my travel blog during Covid, I’ve never actually blogged when the world was fully open. When it finally is, I can’t wait to attend some travel blog conferences.

The best ones I know of are Travel Blogging Summit (where I was a speaker in 2022), TBEX , Women In Travel Summit , and TravelCon by Nomadic Matt. Note: Sadly, 2022 was the last year for TravelCon.

Does it cost money to start a blog?

You can start a hobby blog for free, but if you ever want to make money from your blog, it’s not free to start. The good news? You decide how much you spend.

The cheapest way to start a blog is to sign up for A2 Hosting (famous for their cheap website hosting), set-up Wordpress , and get started blogging.

Of course, that’s the simplified version, but know you can start a blog for cheap . You can also start a blog for free on Blogger , but it will always be a hobby blog.

Unlike with a website on A2 Hosting , you don’t own your Blogger site (Blogger does), and you therefore can’t make money from it.

If you want a blog that’s also your business, you need to own your site. The cheapest hosting that many beginner bloggers start with is the Startup Plan with A2 Hosting , which is just $4.99 USD per month.

🤔 A2 Host vs Bluehost: Which is better?

I used to recommend Bluehost here, but now suggest A2 Hosting which is comparable in price, but so much better overall. For a few dollars more per month, you get better site speed, performance and customer service.

If you’d like, you can still sign up for Bluehost — famous for their cheap website hosting at just $2.95 per month, though not famous for much else.

🏆 Lyrical: The Host I Use and Love

If you have more of a budget, sign up for Lyrical Hosting . This is the company I use for hosting, and I’m so thrilled to be with.

Their support is amazing and they have gone above and beyond, to even solve tech issues for me. My site speed is super fast with them as well.

Is it worth starting a travel blog in 2024?

As someone who makes a full-time income from my travel blog, works only about 20 hours per week, from any location on Earth I want to — FU+K YES it is!

However, setting up a Wordpress blog and learning how to blog properly takes time. Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint.

My blog did nothing in year one; it was basically a place to hear crickets.

In year two, I invested in the best travel blogging courses I could find, and made $7,762.22 dollars.

Year three was great for me — I made $272,569 from my blogging business in 2022. Note: That is my gross income, but I did net $177,125.

While my numbers may seem impressive if you’re making $0 from a blog, I’m still a small (well, maybe medium ) sized blogger.

There are so many bloggers who make more than me, but since I know blogging is a marathon, not a sprint , it’s only a matter of time before I get there too.

Who Am I? (And Why Should You Care?)

travel vlog course

Hi, I’m Shelley, and I’m a travel blogger — as in, I earn a full-time living from this blog. ( Note:  I have three blogs now, but this one brings in the bulk of my income.)

As far as the  Why should you care  part, hopefully the stats below speak for themselves

If you don’t care about me or my story at all, no hard feelings! You can jump to the reviews of the best travel blogging courses 2023 has to offer, and one I don’t recommend, with  this link .

Why I promote paid travel blogging courses

digital nomad travel insurance for mexico

The thing with free courses is, well, you get what you pay for .

That’s not to say you won’t get good tidbits here and there, but you can’t execute on long term travel blog monetization goals unless you have a solid, step-by-step plan, and a great teacher or mentor; mine was Laura .

Thanks to investing in myself, by investing courses, I’ve made six-figures with my blog in the first half of 2022 (see my stats above).

Sadly, I know people who started blogs around the same time as mine, who are still making $0 per month, and writing great blog posts no one will ever read.

How am I doing so much better? I’m not special; I can tell you that much.

I did, however, believe in myself enough to invest in great travel blogging courses , so I could live my dream life as a digital nomad and travel writer.

If you’re ready to do the same, I suggest investing in the courses for travel blogging mentioned in this article:

  • Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures (Best general blogging course)
  • How to Find Affiliate Keywords that Will Make You a Ton of Money (Best affiliate marketing course)
  • SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers (Best SEO course)

💡 Take a moment to think about the word Invest

The best travel blogging courses will cost you money. Buying one and investing in yourself should be an easy decision, and you should be excited to do it!

You must believe in yourself so much so that you know this money is coming right back to you, like a boomerang.

🙋‍♀️ Here’s my personal example

I invested a good chunk of money for 1:1 blog coaching with Laura . She did a deep dive on my site and suggested some tweaks, which I did over about a month. Three months after starting my coaching with her, I was accepted to Mediavine .

As one of the highest paying online ad networks, I made back my initial investment for coaching in just one week, thanks to my lucrative Mediavine ad income.

Just who is this Laura I keep mentioning?

She’s the creator of Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures , one of the best courses for bloggers. I was in her one on one coaching program, and believe she’s the best travel blog coach you’ll find.

Laura also hosts this FREE webinar about her blog coaching and Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures, so you can hear it all from her.

Final Thoughts: Best Travel Blogging Courses 2024

My top choice is Scale Your Travel Blog to Six Figures (SYTBTSF) for those who are ready to get serious about making money travel blogging.

I would not be where I am today — I made $ 272,569 from blogging in 2022 — without this course and Laura’s private blog coaching.

SEO Roadmap for Travel Bloggers is a great option for those who don’t have the budget for SYTBTSF. It is run by my friend Nina Clapperton, but honestly one of the best SEO classes I’ve ever done.

Out of the 15 or so ( and counting! ) travel blogging courses I’ve taken in the last few years, these are the ones that have helped me go from clueless, to someone who’s making money travel blogging.

I hope they will help you as you monetize your blog as well.

The Best Travel Youtube Channels

Kara and nate, who are they:  .

Kara and Nate are travel vloggers that are just good wholesome fun.  They set out from Nashville Tennesee to travel the world about 5 years ago.  Soon after, they made a bucket list goal to visit 100 countries by 2020.  They met their 100-country goal, and by that time, YouTube was a steady career for them.  Kara and Nate are truly addicted to international travel, but COVID changed that game for the couple.  Having no quit in them, they found a way to travel safely and returned to the United States.  They converted a Sprinter van and have set a new goal to visit all 50 states.  Kara and Nate are one of the largest travel channels and have now put out more than 800 videos, so you better get started!

What Makes Kara and Nate Special:

Kara is a joyful soul. Her big smile and contagious laugh keep you smiling the whole episode.  Plus, she is always ready to laugh at herself and just seems like an all-around nice person.  Nate is so driven and incredibly smart.  Their channel not only provides solid entertainment but great travel hacks and tips from Nate.  Nate has an online course on credit card travel hacks, while Kara sells courses on editing.

Kara and Nate don’t just randomly vlog, they focus on finding the absolute best and most unique experiences and accommodations in their travels.  On top of all that, their filming and editing skills are above and beyond most in the travel vlog world.  They have taken this venture as a business from early on in the process, and it shows.  They are some of the best travel vloggers in the world!

Flying the Nest

Stephen and Jess are an Australian couple who have been traveling the world for years!  We have watched them grow up, get married, and start a family on YouTube.  Currently, they are traveling Australia in their brand new converted van, “Cooper The Van.”  Stephen and Jess show us the best places to eat, unique places to stay, and how to still have adventure even when the kiddos come along.

What Makes Flying the Nest Special:

Jess is possibly the most down-to-earth beauty out there.  Nothing seems to ruffle her feathers, and she is just a calming force to watch.  Stephen is quirky and so funny.  He is a dork, and he knows it, and he owns it!  Their love for each other is evident, and it’s just a feel-good watch.  Plus, now they have the addition of beautiful baby Hunter, the most chill travel baby ever!

Hunter has added a whole new level of cute to the series, and the whole audience feels like proud parents watching their own child experience her first Aussie beach sunset.  They are a beautiful family, with a beautiful story.  In addition to all this, Stephen’s camera work and elegant editing style are all his own.  His work is distinguishable and excellent!  We think Flying the Nest is one of the best travel youtube channels out there!

Who Are They :

There is nothing more fun on the planet than watching these two crazy Welsh kids tackle the world! Their accents are hilarious.  They are hilarious.  Craig and Aimee have been together for a very long time, and their relationship has been strengthened by a near-death experience by each of them!  When they met, Aimee had just received a cancer diagnosis, and the road was long and hard.  Then, Craig challenged their relationship some more with a broken neck from an adventure sports accident.

These two events, in a short span of time, convinced this crazy pair to chase after an unconventional life, and to live every moment to its fullest! Through it all, they have kept their joy and their sense of spontaneity.  Their motto is to “Rule Your Own World,” and they certainly do.  They have spent the last couple of years renovating a Mercedes Vario Bus into their new home.  Custard the Bus is a beauty, and her European adventures are just beginning. They have 500 travel videos for you to binge!  We think they are one of the best travel channels on YouTube and terribly underrated.

What Makes Kinging It Special:

Craig and Aimee are absolutely hilarious.  They will have you wetting yourself, every episode!  Plus, they take on the wildest challenges.  They have completed the massive and absurd Mongol Rally, a competition that travels all through Europe and Asia, usually ending somewhere in Eastern Russia.  The car must be a clunker and have under a 1L engine, and chaos is highly encouraged!  Craig and Aimee’s Mongol Rally Series will have you rolling. Then these crazy kids bought their own rickshaw and proceeded to drive it from across India from North to South.  It was a wild ride.  Craig and Aimee are two personalities that you won’t soon forget, and their wild abandon, hilarious travel stories, and zest for life will make you want to live a little more freely, and “Rule your own world!”

Raya and Louis

Who are they:.

Raya and Louis are fairly new to the Travel YouTube scene as a couple, but Louis Cole has been in the biz for a long time.  His original channel, FunForLouis has over 2Million Subs, and it’s easy to see why.  Louis is just likable with his laidback vibe and a head full of dreadlocks. He’s an easy-going and loveable dude.  He and Raya are currently traveling through Europe in a rented van visiting family and taking holiday, but soon they will head back to their main mission.  They have about 50 videos out, so you can still easily catch up with the adventure.

What Makes Raya and Louis Special:

Raya and Louis are into deep convos.  They have spilled the beans about the hard parts of their relationships and mental health issues, and there is just something about that level of vulnerability that makes you want to watch. They are also very eco-conscious and give great tips on how to travel in an eco-friendly way.  They have recently purchased land in Costa Rica to build a tree-house jungle community.  Like with everyone else, COVID changed their plans a bit, but soon, they will be making their way down to Costa Rica in their converted school bus to start a new life!  We can’t wait to see the community they build.

Endless Adventure

Eric and Allison are the most charming couple from Missouri.  They’re sometimes Southern twang and complete and utter talent to be their quirky selves is both endearing and super funny.  Eric is a computer geek and a total self-proclaimed nerd.  Allison is red-headed beauty with the best big awkward laugh.  These two specialize in unique accommodations and lots of food! They always show us the best places to eat, and exactly what weird foods to try.

Their lighthearted personalities and willingness to just be their nerdy selves make you instantly love them!  They have currently begun a tiny home renovation too, but not any old sprinter van would fit these two.  They have bought a completely run-down 1970s RV, and they are taking on the renovation completely by themselves!  Clementine  is going to be a beauty, and it has been an awesome journey to watch.  They have  737  videos for you to catch up on!

What Makes Endless Adventure Special:

They make great videos.  They cover great content, but Allison and Eric are people you could watch read the phone book and be happy.  They are really enjoyable to watch, no matter what they are doing.  They obviously love one another. They love good beer and whiskey in equal measure, and they love a challenge.  They are awkward, funny, quirky, and absolutely adorable!  Keep it coming Eric and Allison. We love it all!

Who Is He:

“Food is the reason you should travel.”  Well, Mark, we agree!  After University, Mark Wiens set out to find the world’s best street food.  He has traveled the markets of Southeast Asia, stalls of Japan, and he recently spent 16 days with the street vendors of Pakistan.  Mark’s channel is absolutely huge!  With over 8 million viewers, it’s obvious that we YouTube viewers really love food…and Mark.  Mark is an unassuming and charming guy. His great big smile, love for food, and humble demeanor are endearing.  Between his YouTube personality and his incredibly informative blog, Migrationology,  it’s no wonder he has so many faithful followers.  Mark has found a beautiful wife in Thailand and settled with his new family in Bangkok, but they still travel frequently in the hunt for the best street foods in the world!

What Makes Mark Special:

Honestly, we all wish we knew Mark’s secret!  We think the secret to Mark’s success, aside from some great business savvy, is his magnetic personality.  Mark is one of the most positive personas online.  Even after over 1,100 videos on food, he still seems just as excited as he did with the first one!  Mark greets every new place and every new food adventure with gusto and genuine excitement.  Mark loves food, and we love Mark!

Travel Beans

Alex and Emma are a pair of Brits out traveling the world and documenting their “Tipsy Beans” moments.  They may or may not have a tendency to get a little inebriated while filming.  Alex is witty and his sarcasm comes at the most unexpected moments.  Emma is a doll and has been very prominent in the push for better mental health advocacy.  Emma has struggled with some depression issues, which they have well-documented in a two-part series on their channel.  Thankfully, she has received the help she needed and has come out on the other side.  She now uses their channel on occasion to express the importance of finding life and health in this world, and doing what makes you happy! They have recently started a van conversion as well, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with!

What Makes Travel Beans Special:

Alex and Emma are truly authentic.  What you see is what you get: drunk, depressed, happy, angry, sarcastic, whatever is going on, you get the true and unfiltered version from them.  They are very funny, and who doesn’t love that perfect British accent? If sarcastic and loveable Brits adventuring is your thing, Alex and Emma have 485 videos just waiting for you!

Who Is She:

Nadine is one of the oldest and best in the game.  For almost 10 years she has been traveling the globe, first as a solo traveler, then-wife, and now mother.  Nadine has been to almost 60 countries and is the travel tips queen!  She’s always got the best advice and little tricks to make your trip smoother.  Plus, she’s really funny.  Her vlog has transitioned a lot since becoming a new mother.  She posts much more of the daily grind and general lifestyle hacks, but we still can’t take our eyes off her.  Nadine has represented every big brand in the business, spoken at every travel conference, and landed all the awards.  She is the best, and yet she is humble and down to earth. We’ll watch you mom any day Nadine!

What Make Hey Nadine Special:

Nadine has been in the wanderlust business a long time, and she just knows how to be in front of the camera.  She presents great info in a funny way, and she is joyful and energetic.  She is just fun to watch.

Lexi Limitless

Lexi is a new kid on the scene who has made a huge splash!! That’s all because she has the unique distinction of holding a Guinness World Record.  Lexie was the youngest person ever to travel to all 196 countries of the world.  She accomplished this feat before her 21st birthday!  Lexi is a remarkable young woman, and that level of travel has made her wise and mature beyond her years.

What Makes Lexi Limitless Special:

This solo female traveler has literally experienced every culture on earth.  She has lived with remote African tribes and tried the world’s most nasty foods.  She is a lovely girl, with a great series of travel vlogs that cover a wide range of topics, obviously!  Her footage is surprisingly well-shot and well-edited. Lexie is just starting to roll out the videos from her years of travel, so go check her out now!

Alexander Ayling

Alex and Marko Ayling made YouTube travel content for years as the Vagabrothers.  They have now slowed on that, but Alexander is taking on a brand new adventure.  He has moved to New Zealand and bought a homestead with his wife Carrie. After a long hunt for the perfect property, they have finally found it, and the renovations have begun.  Alex and Carrie have big plans, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

What Makes Alexander Ayling Special:

Alex is a filmmaker at heart.  His footage is perfect. Always.  Not to mention that Alex has a very distinct narrative style to his videos.  He wants his channel to feel like a place where you come to have a good chat with an old friend.  He truly lets you in on his life and leaves you wanting more!   Catch up on Alex and Carrie’s Renovation Dream here!

Wolter’s World

Wolter’s World has carved out his own nitch in the travel world.  Unlike the rest of the famous travel bloggers, Wolter doesn’t tell you what to do in a famous destination.  He tells you what not to do!  Brilliant.  Every great traveler wants to blend in and look like a local if possible, or at least not do anything too stupid!  Wolter helps us out in this realm.  He makes sure we know the “Top Ten Things NOT to do in El Salvador,” and everywhere else!  Wolter’s World has been in the game almost 10 years too, and his video collection is extensive.  If you want to make sure you don’t have massive culture shock, have all the do’s and dont’s, and know the down and dirty for your destination, Wolter is your guy!

What Makes Wolter’s World Special:

Wolter has a special way of being able to present the good, the bad, and the ugly about a destination, in a respectful and culturally appropriate way.  He is not afraid to state the bad stuff, and we appreciate it.  Let’s be real. Every destination has its goods and bads, and any experienced traveler wants to know the less than glossy stuff before we arrive. So, we appreciate you, Wolter, keep it up!

Expert Vagabond

Matthew Karstan is a true vagabond.  His channel focuses on hiking and camping adventures and budget travel advice in some incredible and off-the-tourist-track places.  Matt has worked with everyone from Lonely Planet, to National Geographic, and Go Pro.  He excels as a travel blogger and photographer,  in print and social media. His travel blog tells exceptional stories of life on the road as a digital nomad. However, his YouTube channel is a fabulous collection of his adventures in true old-school vlogger fashion. He is genuine, experienced, and gives fantastic advice.

What Makes Expert Vagabond Special:

Matthew is just a normal guy who loves nature and loves to travel the world.  He isn’t especially eloquent, and his videos aren’t overproduced.  He just gives great footage, great advice, and especially great travel experiences, from an expert traveler who has seen it all!

Eamon and Bec

Eamon and Bec are the quintessential van-lifers… or they were.  They were traveling in Morocco when COVID hit, and they had to abandon their van  Trinity  there.  Though they did get a new van and do a few trips, COVID made life tough for these Canadians.  They soon abandoned the van in favor of a cabin in the Canadian wilderness.  They are quite the DIYers and have entertained us thoroughly with their renovation successes and disasters!  Eamon is always on the move to the next crazy antic and Bec is just along for the ride.  Her great big laugh and gentle spirit make everyone love her.  Their next adventure is to buy another Canadian property to run as an Airbnb.

What Makes Eamon and Bec Special:

E and B are another great couple that has proved during this pandemic that they could sit and do absolutely nothing, and we would still tune in every Sunday to get our fix!  We have watched them tackle everything from van conversions to home conversion, dog fostering, and more. And, we still can’t get enough. This delightful pair has over 300 vids for you to veg out on, and we know you’re gonna love them.

Rick Steves

Rick Steves is the king of all things travel-related. Period.  There are no better travel guide books on the planet! His fabulously detailed books and ridiculously nerdy audio guides have been leading us through Europe and making us snort-laugh for years! But, the YouTube videos he produces are just as good.  Rick isn’t really a vlogger in the traditional sense.  His videos are definitely professionally researched, written, filmed, and produced by a talented professional team.  They are just the right mix of fun and informative, with all the necessary information on tourist sites and local must-do items.

What Makes Rick Steves Special:

In short, the experience.  Rick has traveled Europe extensively, with multiple visits to each country.  His team of local guides, researchers, and destination experts put for the most up-to-date and interesting information and leave out the fluff!  With well over 1800 videos to peruse, there really is no better place to get all your necessary trip information.

Sailing la Vagabonde

Riley and Elayna have the world’s largest sailing YouTube channel.  These two Aussies are going through a transition though.  They recently had their second baby and sailed their last sail.  So, what is up for the crazy foursome now?  We don’t really know, but we know it will be fun!

What Makes Saling La Vagabonde Special:

We have watched their whole relationship unfold from newly-mets who had never sailed, to season professionals with two beautiful kiddos. We don’t know what is in store, but we are guaranteed to stay tuned to see!

New Travel YouTube Channels to Keep an Eye On

While we have focused most of this article on the oldies but goodies, there are some truly great channels that are just getting their start on YouTube.  For a few fresh faces in the travel industry, we suggest you subscribe to one of these awesome newcomers!

Jits into the Sunset

Tania and Adam are an Irish and English couple traveling the UK with their Sprinter van  Jitters.  They are different in the YouTube crowd.  They make travel vlogs, yes, but not all that often.  They are self-proclaimed slow travelers, who put out new videos whenever they feel like it. However, they are full of travel inspiration and well worth the wait.

What Makes Jits Special:

Adam and Tania do life van life their own way, and they don’t seem to get caught up in the travel YouTube channel game.  They make vlogs, but it doesn’t seem to rule their life.  They live on their own plane and do things in true freedom, and that’s an admirable way to live!

Lost Among Locals

Who are they: .

Ryan and Abby are a married couple from Arkansas.  They left their jobs and sold it all in early 2020: the big house, the cars, all of it! Little did they know COVID was coming. Like everyone on this list,  it changed their plans a bit, but they managed to Central America and start their world tour.  Ryan is quiet, slightly awkward, and you can tell he is the world’s nicest person.  Abby is sassy, funny, and you never know what might come out of her mouth!

Ryan and Abby are culture vultures who genuinely love to learn about history, cultural oddities, and all the things that make different people groups unique.  They are full-time travelers and digital nomads, so their version of slow travel and international living is refreshing to watch.

What Makes Lost Among Locals Special:

They traveled internationally for 12 years before leaving for full-time travel and had already experienced several amazing destinations as a pair.  So, they bring a unique blend of touristy sites juxtaposed with everyday local life and budget travel tips.  They dance with Albanians at a baby’s birthday party, play street games with old Turkish men, and score the best local foods in every destination.  COVID definitely made local interaction harder for them, as they regrettably express, but we look forward to seeing more of their off-the-beaten-path lifestyle in the future!  Keep up the good work guys!

The Vandersons

Emily and Danny feel like instant friends.  They are just so likable.  Danny and Emily set out in their van, with their cat Graham and dog Sombrita right after they got married.  They have since been traveling through Central America with their nomad pet family! Their goal is to make the full journey from Seattle to Argentina in their tiny, colorful van.  Though they are new to video making, their vlogs are heartfelt and laidback.  Danny is a lifelong BMX biker and app developer, with a surfer boy vibe and Emily is the sweetest soul. If easy-going is the vibe you are after, these two have the vids for you!

What Makes The Vandersons Special:

Emily has a narrating voice that is absolute perfection. Their footage is good, but the real perk to watching the Vandersons is that they tackle destinations you have never heard of.  Because they travel full-time, at their own pace, they get to some truly off-the-beaten-path gems that you don’t get to see in many other travel vlogs. Plus, their delightful pet-filled family is just heartwarming, and it’s awesome to see a young couple so happy, living a crazy unconventional life to the fullest!

That’s it, guys!  These are the best travel bloggers out there right now!  You have lots of new videos to binge, so you better get busy! Let us know in the comments, which of these bloggers is your favorite.

How to Make a Travel Vlog

Watch the Video

Travel vlogging is more than just sharing your holiday trips with your friends. It is a modern way of capturing other cultures and promoting travel destinations with viewers worldwide. And if you do it right, you can even earn a few bucks that will pay some of your travel expenses.

If you like travelling and face-timing, then travel vlogging should be a hobby and a job for you. This guide will show you how to make a travel vlog in five easy steps.

Choose a Platform for Your Travel Vlog

Most travel vloggers post their vlogs on social media, and you can do the same. Uploads take just a few seconds, and you can also live-stream some of your trips.

Your first choice of platform should be YouTube. There, you can create a stylish YouTube channel where your viewers can easily jump from one vlog to another.

YouTube is free to use, and if your travel vlog becomes highly popular, you can even earn some money from advertisements.

Invest in Proper Equipment

Travel vlogging is easier and cheaper to make than it seems. Once you start doing it, you will also realise that it is much more fun than you would expect. However, you cannot make a travel vlog without a bit of investment.

Lastly, you should invest in a good camera. Whether you get a DSLR or use your smartphone, the quality of the camera will make all the difference.

If you use your phone, you might also like to invest in a camera stabiliser. After all, nobody likes watching shaky videos.

travel vlog course

Have a Theme for Your Trip

Your travel vlog is as good as the size of your audience. You either have a myriad of viewers, or you go back home.

To build a large and loyal following, you have to have a script for your trips. You can start by setting a location and choosing a theme.

For example, you hit the road to Mongolia to find out the less-known recipe of a legendary tea that Genghis Khan used to drink.

The reason for your journey can be whatever you want it to be, as soon as you make it catchy and fun.

Keep It Short and Simple

One tip on which all travel vloggers will agree is that you have to make your videos short and simple to follow. If your vlog episodes have one or two hours each, nobody but your mom will watch them. And even she might skip through them.

Keep your vlogs short and succinct. Only film relevant aspects of your trip, and show them in short clips that may range from 7 seconds to 7 minutes long. No one will watch a video of you waiting six hours for your plane to take off.

Include Locals in Your Vlog

Last but not least, you should always include short clips of the locals you meet during your journeys. People like to travel and meet other cultures. They want to see how other people live on the other side of the world.

By capturing their lifestyles, customs, and traditions, you do a great favour to those who, for various reasons, cannot venture out into the unknown.
