"Tickets on sale from Friday this week."

In 2017, Simon, 45, confirmed he and his bandmates were back in the studio working on a follow-up to 2015's 'Colours', which was their final album released on Sony Music.

At the time, Lee, 38, was in 'EastEnders', Duncan, 43, in 'Hollyoaks' and 40-year-old Anthony was appearing in an Agatha Christie play, so the boys had limited time to work on the new tunes.

Simon said then: "We're in the studio. We did the Sunshine Festival in Worcester. We're going to Latvia tomorrow. We're constantly working, at least two or three times a month."

However, Blue admitted in 2019 that they would be focusing on live shows.

The 'Guilty' hitmaker added how he and his bandmates - who formed in 2000 and have continued to play shows over the years - keep one another grounded.

Simon - who released his first solo album in 11 years 'Smile' that October - said: "[If] the attitude is that we're getting above our station, the other three will bring you back into line. We're very, very grateful to be in the position that we are."

Blue's 2022 UK tour dates are:

Saturday 17 September – M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool

Sunday 18 September – First Direct Arena, Leeds

Monday 19 September – OVO Hydro, Glasgow

Wednesday 21 September – P&J Live, Aberdeen

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 09: (L to R) Antony Costa, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Simon Webbe of Blue attend a party hosted by Instagram's Kevin Systrom and Jamie Oliver. This is their second annual private party, taking place at Barbecoa on March 9, 2015 in London, England. (Photo by David M. Benett/Getty Images for Instagram)

Blue have announced their first album in seven years, Heart and Soul, and delayed their comeback tour.

The boy band – made up of Lee Ryan , Duncan James, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa – were due to embark on a run of live shows in September with Atomic Kitten .

We’ve been in the studio WRITING a brand new album,’ Simon said in a video on social media. ‘And don’t forget we’re going on tour, and the tour’s called Heart & Soul as well, so it ties in together, you’re going to NEED the album!’

The reunion shows were initially set to mark two decades since the release of their chart-topping 2001 debut album, All Rise.

However, they’ve now been pushed back slightly to December, and will coincide with the new record.

The Breathe Easy hitmakers have confirmed their first LP since 2015’s Colours will arrive on September 9.

Finally! We are pleased to announce our sixth studio album ‘Heart & Soul’ is not only on its way but you can preorder it now on the link below. https://t.co/miQOCSQdHe pic.twitter.com/9NbyWbYDyo — BLUE (@officialblue) April 11, 2022

A press release teased that the four-piece “have been back together in the studio working on one of their best records yet.”

Special guests for the new dates will be announced and all tickets will remain valid, with the run kicking off on December 4 at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena and concluding at Newcastle Utilita Arena on December 20.

In 2017, Simon, 43, confirmed he and his bandmates were back in the studio.

At the time, Lee, 38, was in EastEnders, Duncan, 44, in Hollyoaks and 40-year-old Antony was appearing in an Agatha Christie play, so the boys had limited time to work on the new tunes.

He said: ‘We’re in the studio. We did the Sunshine Festival in Worcester. We’re going to Latvia tomorrow. We’re constantly working, at least two or three times a month.’

Blue fans go wild as boy band announce reunion for special 20th anniversary tour

The quartet will hit the road across the UK in December to entertain fans who have supported them over the last two decades

blue boy band tour 2022

  • Updated 10:19, 20 May 2022

Blue have announced they will be reuniting this year to celebrate 20 years of the band with their Heart and Soul tour - and fans can't wait.

The quartet will hit the road across the UK in December to entertain fans who have supported them over the last two decades.

One fourth of the band Duncan James send fans wild after posting a video of the band on Instagram , captioned: "I say blue you say what” - a reunion!!??? @officialblue."

Since sharing the video on Thursday (May 19), the post has garnered thousands of likes and views with hundreds of fans pouring in to share their excitement over the reunion.

In the clip Duncan James, Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa can be seen trying to get money out of a cash machine, before each comically confessing to being 'broke'.

The video opens with Simon at an ATM as he pretends to enter his pin code, he then turns to face the camera where a voice in his head with a thick Jamaican accent can be heard saying: "You don't have no money... so take your a*** and go long, you're broke!"

Next up is Lee who similarly enters his details into the cash machine before reminding himself of a speeding ticket he paid: "Oh yeah, I forgot I paid that fine, I wasn't even driving, my missus was."

The Blue singer, 38, was charged with driving a Mercedes at 70mph in a 60mph limit in Peterborough twice in 2020.

Antony then takes to the same cash point as his inner voice simply shouts "b******s" at seemingly not being able to afford getting any money out.

Last up is Duncan who faces a similar dilemma, where he says: "Ah dear the bank balance wasn't want it used to be." Before adding: "Today wasn't a great day, but it was nice to see the boys. I went up and asked how everyone was, everyone was pretty down actually. Then I had this genius idea, why don't we reform?"

The announcement video caused a frenzy among fans, as many took to the comment section to express their excitement.

@miss_safiyya_'s wrote: "Love this!!!! Yay a reunion," while @felicityhayward added: "Can’t wait."

@francescomontereal commented a heart emoji accompanied by two rocket emojis and a hands up emoji.

@tamarawall13 put: "Love this!!!!!!" as @nishascookingagain typed: "Omg can’t wait!!!! Take me back!!"

"Yaaaaaaaaaay i can t wait, why not world tour," @maynou_benameur said.

@abdullatifhusamo added: "Oh guys. You made many of us happy to see together again. ONE LOVE."

@vivienne_yun shared: "Hilarious video, I say Yes to reunion @officialblue and of course for a chance to meet you again @mrduncanjames."

The British noughties music icons' reunion tour for 2022 will mark the 20th anniversary of their formation. The tour, named Heart & Soul, will run for 12 shows over three weeks in December this year all over the UK. So far, the confirmed dates are:

  • Sunday December 4 2022 at 7pm - Cardiff: Motorpoint Arena
  • Monday December 5 2022 at 7pm - Manchester: AO Arena Manchester
  • Wednesday December 7 2022 at 7pm - Leeds: First Direct Arena
  • Friday December 9 2022 at 7pm - Birmingham: Resorts World Arena
  • Sunday December 11 at 7pm - Liverpool: M&S Bank Arena
  • Monday December 12 at 7pm - Brighton: Brighton Centre
  • Tuesday December 13 at 7pm - London: The O2
  • Thursday December 15 at 7pm - Bournemouth: Bournemouth International Centre
  • Friday December 16 at 7pm - Nottingham: Motorpoint Arena
  • Sunday December 18 at 7pm - Aberdeen: P&J Live Arena
  • Monday December 19 at 7pm - Glasgow: The OVO Hydro
  • Tuesday December 20 at 7pm - Newcastle: Utilita Arena Newcastle

The tour was originally set to take place in 2021, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the dates rescheduled to this winter.

The foursome's new album Heart & Soul will be released on September 9, which will follow-up from the band's last album Colours in 2015.

All three of the band’s first albums, All Rise (2001), One Love (2002) and Guilty (2003) were UK number ones and charted all over Europe.

After their split in 2004, the band reunited for a one-off performance at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball in 2009, before going on to be internally-selected to represent the UK at Eurovision 2011.

Blue: ‘We didn’t squander money. But we got shafted. We got let down’

The quintessential noughties boyband are back with heart and soul, their first new album in over seven years. here they open up about press scandals, online trolling and their dream of playing the glastonbury legends slot.

author avatar image

When you are a member of a boyband, how do you ever manage to grow up? Some people simply don’t ( Robbie Williams ); others jump directly from teenager to middle-aged man ( Gary Barlow ) and some melt away into a life of quietly trying to forget they were ever a heartthrob whipping their shirt off on Top of the Pops . For Blue, it was a tough journey of harsh realities and betrayals that took them from fresh-faced young hopefuls to the grateful, slightly jaded 40-somethings who sit before me in a record label office on a Thursday morning in 2022.

“We thought Blood Sweat and Tears was too depressing a name,” jokes Antony Costa of their new album Heart and Soul . He, Duncan James and Simon Webbe are casual but guarded. They seem aware of what they are – a heritage act with a second chance – and don’t pretend to be anything else. When I mention their 2017 book Blue: All Rise: Our Story , Webbe whispers conspiratorially that he is yet to read it. “I haven’t either!” Costa pipes up. It turns out none of them have cracked the spine.

Those who did pick the book up will have been reminded how enormous Blue were back in the 2000s. They were formed at the turn of the millennium: before long, they had racked up three No 1 albums, two Brit awards and have, to date, sold 15 million albums worldwide. Appetite for Blue was so huge that they played nine back-to-back shows at Wembley Arena in 2005. They were four regular lads who seemed unlikely pop stars, suddenly hugely famous and living the dream. But it wasn’t smooth sailing.

“It was cut-throat back then,” Duncan James recalls. “In the first year of Blue, we were really paranoid the label was going to swap any one of us out for somebody new.” After all, two previous members were cut out of their first label deal on the day that the band signed – leaving just James, Lee Ryan, Antony Costa and Simon Webbe.

Blue Boy Band Image via lauren@halestormpr.com

For James, it always felt like a precarious position to be in. “We constantly had that fear of: is that going to happen again?” Even as their first singles – “All Rise”, “Too Close” and “If You Come Back” – rocketed up the charts, he was thinking, “What if we don’t do well? Are we going to be sacked? Are we going to be replaced?”

Though they came across as carefree in interviews at the time, the pressure they were under was huge.

“All you’re constantly thinking is, ‘Am I good enough?’” Costa adds. It wasn’t until Elton John agreed to collaborate with them (on “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”) that any of the band members felt that they could relax. “There were a lot of insecurities in the beginning,” James says. “Still are,” Costa adds, shaking his head. “Still are.”

When Blue’s first single came out in 2001, the band were shocked. Not because it was a success, but because the track that came out didn’t sound much like the one they’d recorded. In the studio, the legal-themed adultery song “All Rise” had sounded like a filler track with a cheesy Law and Order motif. But when it came out, their team had tinkered with it and “All Rise” became a louche R’n’B number with an audacious harmonica intro and compelling gang vocals on the line “I! Rest! My Case!”.

“All Rise” hit No 4 in the UK singles chart in 2001 and it was clear that whoever had made that decision had made the right one. Further good decisions were made, and as the boys themselves proved a kind of everyman boyband with outrageous good looks and laddish tendencies, ever higher chart placements followed. But there was a sense that Blue themselves had very little control – over their music, over their time, and over the money they were making.

Of the three members in that cramped office, Webbe is the most uncomfortable talking about the past. Every time we circle closer to the darker times in Blue’s history, he steers the conversation back to something more like the earnest platitudes that are comfortable and safe, but it is in recalling the most egregious slights against the band that his guard drops.

All four members declared bankruptcy at one point or another. Like many other pop acts of the time, they feel used by an industry that didn’t care about them.

“If we could do it again, we’d have better people looking after us,” James says. Webbe is suddenly animated by the injustice: “We didn’t squander money. It wasn’t that we didn’t invest. We just got shafted. We got let down by people that shouldn’t have let us down. And even though it felt wrong at the time, we listened to people because we didn’t have a clue and they were ‘the experts’. Then everybody else turns out to be making money except us.”

Each of Blue have also fallen foul of the press in the past so it’s not a surprise that they are a little wary of journalists. Philandering, bankruptcy, pap pics of them in various stages of inebriation, drunkenly urinating on cash machines and wondering why 9/11 was such a big deal when elephants are out there dying: as famous young men they did not have such a tight handle on their mouths or their behaviours.

Ryan, the youngest, hunkiest member of the boyband, is not here – he lives in Spain and is not doing press, I’m told, and please don’t ask the others about the time he was arrested after being drunk and unruly on a flight as the case is ongoing and they can’t talk about it.

“Lee got a battering a lot by the press,” says James. “He was like 17 at the time when he said some stuff, and he wasn’t really aware of what he was talking about on that level. I mean, he was a child. And you look back at the pressure in that…”

I wonder if these experiences have made them particularly wary of social media, where fortunes can be made and lost in a matter of minutes. “Yeah definitely,” James says. “When people start attacking you online, it’s horrible. It’s harsh. I find it hard to trust people,” Costa says, before Webbe steps in and asks if I’m going to ask them about anything positive.

OK, fair enough. Do you enjoy being famous? “I was thinking about why I did it – what was the reason for going down this route,” he answers. “What was the drive – was it the music, was it the fame, was it the money? Or was it to see that smile on my mum’s face? And I think it’s the latter for me. Once that happened, everything else followed.” He pauses. Then suddenly sits forward and adds, as if this is the first time it’s occurred to him: “When that stops – that’s when it hits home, when you see you’re in a massive pool where there’s loads of sharks. Then it feels like everyone’s out to get your life – you get those little paranoid moments. All of a sudden. In 24 hours.”

The Zutons: 'Amy Winehouse's death made Valerie a hit for all the wrong reasons'

Now, Blue are releasing their first album as a group in seven years. A huge arena tour is booked. And though it is fuelled by nostalgia, this feels like a brand new start.

Heart and Soul is a very fun pop record and a return to form for the cheekiest chappies of the Noughties.

“Over the past few years, we kind of got a bit lost with our music,” James says, referring to 2013’s Colours and 2015’s Roulette , which Costa later adds were “not amazing”. “So we said, ‘Let’s go back to our old sound’.” Heart and Soul manages to balance classic Blue – R’n’B meets pop in a Milton Keynes All Bar One – with a modern feel, heavy on the synths and 80s influences.

“We’re happy to be working,” Costa says. “What does ‘heritage act’ even mean anyway?” Webbe asks, and Costa lights up. “Hey, does that mean we get to do Kenwood House one day?”

“Maybe when we’re in our fifties we’ll get to do the legends slot at Glastonbury!” James adds, genuinely enthused.

Blue are doing what they’ve always done – having a laugh, making decent pop tunes, enjoying their fame – but now they’re doing it with the benefit of experience. They are that rarest of creatures: a boyband who actually grew up.

Reunited boy band Blue keen to do a biopic

Share with :.

Blue are keen to make a biopic. The reunited noughties boy band - comprising Lee Ryan, Duncan James, Antony Costa and Simon Webbe - are gearing up to release their comeback album 'Heart and Soul' on September 9, which will be followed by the tour of the same name in December. And the 'Guilty' hitmakers have revealed they'd love to make a movie like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'Rocketman' and have even thought about who would play them. Duncan, 43, told the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures column: “I’ve always wanted to make a Blue film.” Simon Webbe, 44, said Chris Rock can play him, Antony, 40, would like to see Robert De Niro cast as him, but Lee, 38, wants to play himself. He said: “I’d play myself, because people always come up to me and say I look like Lee Ryan!” Blue have also had discussions about a jukebox musical. Antony said: “I spoke to a few producers over the years, but it just hasn’t felt right." While referencing their 2004 hit ‘Bubblin', he teased: “Watch this space, there might be something Bubblin’ - excuse the pun - in the background.” Blue have just released their first song in seven years, ‘Haven’t Found You Yet’. 'Heart and Soul' can be pre-ordered now by visiting Blue.lnk.to/preorder and will be available on CD, Vinyl and Cassette, as well as on all digital platforms. Schoolboy Q Is Going On A Quick Tour Of The US This Summer With ‘Blue Lips Weekends’

Derrick Rossignol

March was a major month for Schoolboy Q fans, as the rapper dropped Blue Lips , his first album since 2019’s Crash Talk . The project features collaborations with folks like Ab-Soul, AzChike, Freddie Gibbs, and Rico Nasty, and has been regarded by some critics as one of Schoolboy’s best albums yet. If that sounds like something you’d want to see live on stage, the good news is that Schoolboy has decided to take the album on tour.

The bad news is that as it stands now, he’s offering relatively limited opportunities to see it. Yesterday (April 24), the rapper announced Blue Lips Weekends , a series of concerts in July and August that, yes, take place during the weekends, allowing for a relatively relaxed touring schedule.

Information about specific venues isn’t available yet, but we do know that the tour will hit major cities like Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, Brooklyn, San Francisco, and Seattle, among others. Tickets aren’t for sale yet, but fans can RSVP here to be notified when more information is available.

Check out the list of tour dates below.

Moscow concert attack: More than 60 reported dead; ISIS claims responsibility

This live blog has ended. For the most recent updates, please click here .

What we know about the Moscow concert attack

  • Men in camouflage broke into a Moscow concert hall and opened fire, shooting an unknown number of people, Russia’s prosecutor general said.
  • The terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility but did not provide proof of the claim, which was made on ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.
  • Russia's Investigative Committee said that more than 60 people are dead after the attack at Crocus City Hall. Officials have said more than 100 others were injured.
  • A fire also started inside Crocus City Hall, a large concert venue northwest of central Moscow. Firefighters have evacuated about 100 people from the basement of the building and efforts are underway to rescue people from the roof, Russian emergency officials said.
  • Russia officials said they were investigating the attack as a terrorist act.
  • A popular rock band was scheduled to play what appeared to be a sold-out show at the venue, which has a maximum capacity of more than 9,000 people.

Three children among those killed, state media reports

Three children were among the more than 60 people killed in yesterday's attack at Crocus City Hall, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Health.

Officials have warned that the death toll connected to the deadly incident may increase as the investigation continues.

Xi sends condolences to Putin

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday after a deadly shooting at a concert hall near Moscow, saying China opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns terrorist attacks.

China firmly supports the Russian government’s efforts to maintain national security and stability, Xi said, according to CCTV state television.

Moscow bloodshed comes two decades after some of worst attacks in Russia

Phil Helsel

The shooting attacks in Moscow are the latest in a series of deadly terror attacks in the country since the 2000s.

In 2004, militants from Chechnya and elsewhere took hostages at a school in Beslan in southern Russia.

The militants demanded a withdrawal from Chechnya. Hostages were kept in a gymnasium, and 334 died — half of them children — when gunfire and explosions erupted when it was stormed. Hostages’ families were critical of the rescue operation. Russian prosecutors later cleared authorities .

Two years prior, in 2002, Chechen separatists attacked the Dubrovka Theater in Moscow and took more than 700 people hostage. Russian forces used gas, and 129 hostages died. The attackers were killed.

More recently, in 2017 a suicide bomber from Kyrgyzstan killed 15 people as well as himself in an attack on a St. Petersburg subway. In 2013, two bombers killed a combined 34 people in attacks on a railway station and a trolleybus in Volgograd.

The group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for the attacks Friday at the Crocus City Hall venue.

Putin wishes victims well, deputy prime minister says

President Vladimir Putin is thinking of those injured in today’s attack and thanked doctors, a Russian government official said according to state media.

State media TASS reported that “Putin wished all those injured in the emergency at Crocus City Hall to recover and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors, Golikova said,” referring to Tatiana Golikova deputy prime minister for social policy, labor, health and pension provision.

More than 60 dead, and death toll could grow, Russian agency says

Russia’s Investigative Committee said Saturday that more than 60 people have died in the attack, and warned the number may increase.

smoke fire terror attack

“The bodies of the dead are being examined. It has been previously established that more than 60 people died as a result of the terrorist attack. Unfortunately, the number of victims may increase,” according to the Investigative Committee, which is a federal state agency.

Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs and the security agency FSB are continuing to investigate, the committee said in a statement, and weapons and ammunition have been found.

U.S. warned Russia about planned terrorist attack in Moscow, NSC says

Monica Alba

The United States shared information about a potential terrorist attack in Moscow with Russia’s government earlier this month, a spokesperson for the National Security Council said.

The U.S. Embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds and said it was monitoring reports that extremists might attack large gatherings in Moscow.

“Earlier this month, the U.S. Government had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow — potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts — which prompted the State Department to issue a public advisory to Americans in Russia,” NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

“The U.S. Government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding ‘duty to warn’ policy,” Watson said.

Putin recently dismissed ‘provocative’ warning about potential attacks

In remarks that aired three days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of “provocative statements” about potential terror attacks in Russia, and dismissed them.

Putin Russian Election Moscow

“I’ll remind you of recent, let’s say directly, provocative statements of certain official Western structures about potential terror attacks in Russia,” Putin said.

“All of this looks like obvious blackmail and an attempt to intimidate, destabilize our country,” he said before the state security agency FSB.

Putin in those remarks did not specify a country or warning. The U.S. embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds .

“The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours,” the U.S. embassy warned.

Guards at concert hall didn't have guns, state news says

The Associated Press

Guards at the concert hall didn’t have guns, and some could have been killed at the start of the attack, Russian media reported.

Some Russian news outlets suggested the assailants fled before special forces and riot police arrived.

Reports said police patrols were looking for several vehicles the attackers could have used to escape.

U.S. had been gathering intelligence that ISIS could attack Russia

blue boy band tour 2022

Ken Dilanian

The U.S. had been gathering intelligence for months that ISIS could mount a mass casualty attack in Russia, two U.S. officials confirmed to NBC News.

That information led to a March 7 warning issued by the U.S. embassy in Russia about possible extremist attacks, including at concerts, urging people to stay away from large gatherings, one of the officials said.

That official said the claim of responsibility today by ISIS appears to be genuine, though no final assessment had been made about who was responsible.

Some Moscow concertgoers filmed events as they unfolded Friday night, when gunmen opened fire inside a theater and people ran to take cover in fear for their lives.

Witness says gunfire was first thought to be construction noise

A witness to today’s armed attack on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall told a state news agency that they first mistook the gunfire for sounds of an installation being dismantled.

“First, we started hearing typical loud pops, but it was impossible to understand that they were gunshots. We thought that something was falling, as exhibitions were being dismantled at that moment, and someone seemed to be dropping something large,” Mikhail Semyonov told TASS .

“Then, the bangs were getting more and more frequent. Suddenly, there was a scream, and the bangs started to be heard as bursts. Then it became clear that it was shooting,” he said.

ISIS claims responsibility for attack but does not provide proof

The terror group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in Moscow.

The group, also known as ISIS, did not provide any proof of its claim, which came from ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.

The group’s members have carried out a number of terror attacks, including the 2015 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

Children among the victims, Russia's children commissioner says

blue boy band tour 2022

Yuliya Talmazan

Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, said children were among the victims of tonight's attack.

"Information about their condition is regularly updated," Lvova-Belova said on Telegram. "Any additional assistance will be provided immediately."

She later told Russia 24 TV channel that at least two children had been injured, including one boy with a gunshot wound.

Earlier, Russian officials released a preliminary casualty toll of at least 40 people dead and more than 100 injured.

France, U.K., Germany condemn attack

Officials from France, the U.K. and Germany were among those who expressed their condolences to the victims of the attack at the Crocus concert hall.

"The images of the terrible attack on innocent people in Crocus City Hall near #Moscow are horrific," Germany's Foreign Office said on X . "The background must be investigated quickly. Our deepest condolences with the families of the victims."

"We condemn the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow," the U.K.'s embassy in Russia said . "This is a terrible tragedy."

Meanwhile, France's foreign ministry called for "full light" to be shed on "these heinous acts."

Public events across Russia called off after attack

Several regional leaders across Russia, including in the annexed Kherson region of Ukraine, have canceled public events this weekend over security considerations after the deadly concert attack in Moscow.

Shortly after the attack, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin canceled all sports, cultural and other public events in Moscow this weekend. State news agency TASS also quoted Russia's cultural ministry as saying that mass and entertainment events in federal cultural institutions have been canceled in the coming days.

Zelenskyy adviser speaks out about attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s adviser denied that Ukraine was involved in the deadly Crocus concert hall attack.

“Ukraine certainly has nothing to do with the shooting/explosions in the Crocus City Hall (Moscow Region, Russia),” Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on X. “It makes no sense whatsoever.”

No evidence has emerged to suggest Ukraine may have been involved, but Ukrainian officials may be trying to pre-empt accusations, as some Kremlin hawks have already started pointing at Kyiv.

Asked whether the shooting was at all tied to the war in Ukraine, U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said: “There is no indication at this time that Ukraine, or Ukrainians, were involved in the shooting, but again, this just broke. We’re taking a look at it, but I would disabuse you at this early hour have any connection to Ukraine.”

Videos posted to social media appear to show chaos inside Moscow's Crocus City Hall during and after a terrorist attack.

Some videos include what sound like gunshots and show men with rifles, as concertgoers frantically try to exit the venue.

State Department issues warning to Americans in Moscow

blue boy band tour 2022

Jason Abbruzzese

The State Department said that the U.S. Embassy in Moscow is aware of the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall and that U.S. citizens should avoid the area and follow the instructions of local authorities.

"The U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Russia is severely limited, particularly in areas far from the U.S. embassy in Moscow, due to Russian government limitations on travel for U.S. embassy personnel and staffing, and the ongoing suspension of operations, including consular services, at U.S. consulates in Russia," the State Department said in a message posted to its website .

'What a nightmare in Crocus,' Widow of opposition leader Alexei Navalny condolences about concert attack

Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny who died in prison last month, expressed her condolences about the attack Friday.

"What a nightmare in Crocus," Navalnaya wrote on X. "Condolences to the families of the victims and quick recovery to the injured. Everyone involved in this crime must be found and held accountable."

320 firefighters, 3 helicopters working to put out fire

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the number of rescue crews responding to the attack is growing and now includes more than 320 firefighters, 130 emergency vehicles and three helicopters dumping water on the burning concert venue.

Moscow regional governor says 40 dead, more than 100 injured

Moscow Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Telegram that at least 40 people are dead and more than 100 injured in the terrorist attack, confirming figures previously reported by Russian state news.

Putin informed about concert venue attack 'in the first minutes,' Kremlin spokesperson says

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin was informed about the shooting at the Crocus concert hall "in the first minutes" of the attack, Russian state news agency RIA reported.

The president is receiving information about what is happening and the measures being taken through all relevant services and is giving necessary instructions, Peskov said according to RIA.

Russian journalist was inside concert venue when gunmen entered

Russian news agency RIA Novosti said on Telegram that one of its reporters was inside the venue when gunmen entered and began shooting concertgoers.

The journalist said that at least three unmasked gunmen in camouflage entered the hall a few minutes before 8 p.m. Moscow time. They shot people point-blank and threw incendiary bombs, according to the journalist.

Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson calls incident 'bloody terrorist attack'

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia's foreign ministry, called the Friday night incident at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow a "bloody terrorist attack" as she called for "strong condemnation" from the international community.

"Now, as the Russian authorities have stated, all efforts are being devoted to saving people," Zakharova said. "The entire world community is obliged to condemn this monstrous crime!"

U.S. national security spokesperson says embassy has told Americans to avoid large gatherings in Moscow

Kyla Guilfoil

National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby addressed the attack in Moscow at a White House press briefing Friday afternoon, calling it a “terrible, terrible shooting attack.”

“The images are just horrible and just hard to watch and our thoughts obviously are going to be with the the victims,” Kirby said.

Kirby added that the U.S. embassy has notified all Americans in Moscow to avoid large gatherings, concerts, shopping malls, etc., and “stay put where they are” for their safety.

Russia’s prosecutor general office says number of victims still being determined

Russia's prosecutor general said on Telegram that officials are working to determine how many people have been killed or hurt in the concert attack.

“On behalf of Igor Krasnov, the prosecutor of the Moscow region has gone to the scene of the incident at Crocus City Hall to coordinate the actions of law enforcement agencies," the prosecutor general's Telegram account posted. "Tonight, before the start of the event in the concert hall in Krasnogorsk, unknown men in camouflage clothes broke into the building and started shooting."

"The number of victims is being determined, a fire started in the entertainment center building, and citizens are being evacuated."

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
