Tour de France Femmes 2024: Het complete parcours

In de 1e etappe van de Tour de France Femmes liggen de kaarten goed voor de sprinters. De route van Rotterdam naar Den Haag is zo vlak als maar kan. De start is in het Museumpark en de finish in Kijkduin.

Ook de 2e etappe is een volstrekt vlakke aangelegenheid. In 67 kilometer fietsen de coureurs van Dordrecht naar Rotterdam. Een korte rit dus, maar dat is niet zomaar: ’s middags volgt nog een individuele tijdrit . Die is 6,3 kilometer lang en vindt plaats op een stadscircuit in Rotterdam.

De 4e etappe start in Valkenburg en finisht in Luik. De eerste helft van de rout is te vergelijken met de Amstel Gold Race en de finale is een kopie van Luik-Bastenaken-Luik.

In de 5e etappe belandt de gele karavaan in Frankrijk. Het parcours herbergt ruim 2.000 hoogtemeters, maar toch zit het er dik in dat het laatste woord aan de sprinters is. De laatste lijn loopt licht op.

In voorbereiding op het slotweekend in de Alpen trekken de coureurs in de 6e etappe door de Vogezen en de Jura. In de finale wachten La Roche du Prêtre – 5,5 kilometer à 5,6% – en Côte des Fins – 1,8 kilometer à 6,9% -, waarna een afdaling naar de vlakke slotfase leidt.

In de 7e etappe – de langste van de hele Tour – trekken de renners in 167 kilometer naar Le Grand-Bornand. Er staan ruim 3.000 hoogtemeters op het menu, terwijl de slotklim uit twee delen bestaat. De eerste stijgt in 5,4 kilometer met een gemiddelde van 5,1% en na een korte afdaling loopt de weg nog 7 kilometer op met 5,1%.

De Koninginnenrit van de Tour de France Femmes serveert een slordige 3.900 hoogtemeters in een race van 150 kilometer. De streep is in Alpe d’Huez getrokken na 13,8 kilometer bikkelen tegen een gemiddelde stijging van 8,1%.

Tour de France Femmes stage 8 - How it happened

After eight gruelling days of racing, Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) etched her name into the history books as the winner of the 2022 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, overcoming illness in the early stages of the race to deliver a dominant victory at the top of La Super Planche des Belles Filles.

A powerful show of climbing force on stage 7 left Van Vleuten in yellow and heading into the stage 8 finale with over three minutes on Demi Vollering (SD Worx). The SD Worx rider and her team tried everything they could to take over the top spot, from using the strength of the team to trying to exploit any weakness on the descent, but Van Vleuten's climbing prowess simply couldn’t be challenged. 

Van Vleuten came through the gravel near the top of the La Super Planche des Belles Filles and onto the steep finishing ramp solo, with plenty of time to savour a final victory in the yellow jersey of the race leader. 

Vollering was again Van Vleuten's closest competitor, taking second on the stage 30 seconds back, which also secured the runner-up position on the overall podium. Silvia Persico (Valcar Travel & Service) took third on the stage, leading in Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) who finished third on the overall. 

"It's actually a dream that comes true - winning in yellow at the top," Van Vleuten said. "It was not an easy stage, it was not an easy week. It was a super big rollercoaster for me. To finish in yellow solo - the best way."

ASO along with newly appointed race director Marion Rousse revealed the route for the eight-day race at the  Palais des Congrès  on October 14 in Paris. The eight-day race is set to start at Eiffel Tower on July 24 and end atop La Super Planche des Belles Filles on July 31.

The Tour de France Femmes will cover 1,029 kilometres and include back-to-back mountain stages, two stages for the puncheurs, a stage packed with gravel sectors, and four flat stages that could either end in bunch sprints or breakaway wins.

Tour de France Femmes History

The women's peloton raced their  first official launch of the women's Tour de France  until 1984 won by American Marianne Martin. It was an 18-day race held simultaneously as the men's event and along much of the same but shortened routes with shared finish lines. The Société du Tour de France, which later became part of ASO in 1992, managed both men's and women's events. 

The women's Tour de France ended in 1989, and while ASO went on to organise women's one-day races like La Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, La Course, and the inaugural Paris-Roubaix Femmes (in 2021), the women's peloton had not been included as part of the official Tour de France for the past 30 years.

Other women's stage races in France, not run by ASO, took place including the Tour Cycliste Féminin, which had started in 1992, and the re-named Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, until it came to an end in 2009. 

Tour de France men's race director Christian Prudhomme, last year, made a  long-awaited confirmation  that Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) will launch a women's Tour de France avec Zwift in 2022. Zwift was announced that it will become the title sponsor of the  Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift .

The eight-day race begins on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in conjunction with the final stage 21 of the men's Tour de France and ends on La Super Planche des Belles Filles. 

The event is set to become the richest race in the women's peloton next year, with a total of €250,000 up for grabs over the course of the eight-day race and €50,000 in prize money for the winner.

La Course: A stepping stone

ASO's marquee men's Tour de France has thrived over a hundred years but the organisation had been repeatedly criticised for not offering an official women's Tour de France since the original stage race was cancelled in 1989.

La Course by La Tour de France was created in 2014 following a petition to ASO calling for a women's Tour de France. Le Tour Entier's petition was led by Kathryn Bertine, Marianne Vos, Emma Pooley and Chrissie Wellington and secured 97,307 signatures. 

The  inaugural La Course  was held as a circuit race on the Champs Elysees on the final day of the Tour de France. The sprinter-friendly format saw victories for Marianne Vos, Anna van der Breggen and Chloe Hosking in the first three editions.

Organisers shifted to a  two-day experiment in 2017 , which saw a summit finish on the Col d'Izoard, held on the same day as stage 18 of the men's race, followed by a handicapped time trial in Marseille. Annemiek van Vleuten won both stages and the overall title.

The race then shifted back to just  one day in 2018 , as a mountainous road race that linked Annecy and Le Grand-Bornand. Van Vleuten won that edition as well, which was held in conjunction with stage 10 of the Tour de France. The race remained a one-day event held on  circuits in Pau in 2019  won by Vos and a  hilly circuit race in 2020  in Nice won by Lizzie Deignan. 

The eighth and final edition of La Course by Le Tour de France was held as a 107.4km race from Brest to the finish line atop the Côte de la Fosse aux Loups in Landerneau.

Despite its controversy, La Course had become one of the most showcased events on the Women's WorldTour,  and although  the wait was longer than anyone anticipated, it finally became the stepping stone to the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

De route en het parcours van de Tour de France Femmes 2024 is bekend. De vrouwen openen de grote ronde met vier etappes in Nederland, trekken daarna naar het Waalse heuvelland en eindigen met een primeur. Voor het eerst in de Tour de France Femmes finishen de renners op de mythische col Alpe d'Huez. Wie stoot Demi Vollering van de troon in de derde editie van het wielerspektakel?

Acht dagen koers met de finale op La Planche des Belles Filles

Eindelijk is het zover! De dames rijden in 2022 de Tour de France Femmes, een moment waar de wielerwereld een tijd op heeft gewacht. De dames zijn er klaar voor, het publiek is er klaar voor en nu is de ASO er ook klaar voor. Vandaag werd de route van de belangrijkste etappekoers voor dames bekend gemaakt.

• 1029 kilometer
• 3 vlakke etappes
• 3 heuveletappes (inclusief een etappe met 4 gravelstroken)
• 2 bergetappes (inclusief aankomst op Planche des Belles Filles)

Van Parijs naar La Planche des Belles Filles

De Tour de France Femmes telt acht etappes, van 24 t/m 31 juli 2022. De start is in Parijs met een etappe voorafgaand aan de laatste etappe bij de heren, met twaalf rondes over het parcours van de Champs Elysees. De route gaat vervolgens richting het oosten met twee etappes die voornamelijk vlak zijn, maar toch ook wat klimmetjes bevatten die voor verschillen kunnen zorgen.

De vierde etappe is er eentje om je vingers bij af te likken. Het is een etappe met zes heuvels en vier onverharde gravelstroken, van Troyes naar Bar-sur-Aube. Spektakel gegarandeerd! Een dag later wacht de langste etappe van maar liefst 175 kilometer, een afstand die de dames bijna nooit afleggen in wedstrijdverband.

Spectaculair slotweekend in de Vogezen

De laatste etappes worden verreden in de Vogezen. De zesde etappe is nog een overgangsrit, maar de laatste twee dagen zijn slopend. De voorlaatste etappe voert de rensters over de Petit Ballon, de Col du Platzerwassel en heeft de finish bovenop de Grand Ballon. Hier zal het klassement al in een flinke plooi vallen.

Overzicht De tweede editie van de ‘nieuwe’ Tour de France Femmes zal in 2023 verreden worden. Le Grand Départ zal op zondag 23 juli plaatsvinden in Clermont-Ferrand. TOTAL: 3492 km

This will be the first Grand Départ in Italy and the 26th that’s taken place abroad  First finale in Nice. Due to the Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place in Paris, the race will not finish in the French capital for the first time.

Two time trials. 25 + 34 = 59km in total, the second of them taking place on the final Monaco>Nice stage. This will be the first time the race has seen a finale of this type for 35 years, the last occasion being the famous Fignon - LeMond duel in 1989.

Apennines (Italy), the Italian and French Alps, Massif Central and Pyrenees will be the mountain ranges on the 2024 Tour route.

The number of countries visited in 2024: Italy, San Marino, Monaco and France. Within France, the race will pass through 7 Regions and 30 departments.

The number of bonus points 8, 5 and 2 bonus seconds go to the first three classified riders, featuring at strategic points along the route (subject to approval by the International Cycling Union)these will have no effect on the points classification. Bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds will be awarded to the first three classified riders at road stage finishes.

Out of a total of 39, the locations or stage towns that are appearing on the Tour map for the first time . In order of appearance: Florence, Rimini, Cesenatico, Bologna, Piacenza, Saint-Vulbas, Gevrey-Chambertin, Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, Évaux-les-Bains, Gruissan, Superdévoluy, Col de la Couillole.

The number of sectors on white roads during stage nine, amounting to 32km in total .

The number of stages: 8 flat, 4 hilly, 7 mountain (with 4 summit finishes at Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet, Plateau de Beille, Isola 2000, Col de la Couillole), 2 time trials and 2 rest days.

The number of riders who will line up at the start of the Tour, divided into 22 teams of 8 riders each.

The height of the summit of the Bonette pass in the Alps, the highest tarmac road in France, which will be the “roof” of the 2024 Tour.

The total vertical gain during the 2024 Tour de France.

PRIZE MONEY

A total of 2,3 million euros will be awarded to the teams and riders including € 500,000 to the final winner of the overall individual classification .
