PGA Tour Championship: TV channel, live stream, tee times for FedEx Cup tournament

All the excitement of the PGA Tour season concludes this weekend with the Tour Championship.

The top 30 players will battle for the FedExCup in the serenity of Georgia's East Lake Golf Club.

The event's purse is $75 million, with the winner receiving $18 million of that.

Last year, Rory McIlroy won his third championship and FedEx Cup, becoming the first player with that many titles. The Northern Ireland maestro beat out American Scottie Scheffler after making up six strokes in the final round.

McIlroy returns to take on Scheffler, who currently has the lead in the PGA standings. Scheffler is just ahead of Viktor Hovland in second and the defending champion is sitting in third.

The players get a special advantage in the tournament based on their standings.

When is the FedEx Cup Tour Championship?

The PGA Tour Championship for the FedEx Cup tees off at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday from East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Play continues through the weekend with coverage of the final round on Sunday.

Everything you need to know about TOUR Championship 2022 in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Starting Thursday, PGA golfers will converge at the East Lake Golf Club for the TOUR Championship 2022.

Since 2004, East Lake has been the permanent home for TOUR Championship, which will cap off the playoffs. Only the top 30 players qualify for the tournament each year.

WHEN IS IT AND WHAT TIMES?

TOUR Championship will take place Aug. 24-Aug. 28 at East Lake. The gates will open for the practice round Wednesday at 9 a.m. For each round Thursday-Sunday, the course will open at 10 a.m.

If you are interested in particular golfers, tee times and pairings will be announced the day before each round.  Here is the list of current tee times and leaderboard .  

HOW CAN I GET TICKETS?

Tickets and packages can be purchased here . Daily ground tickets are $70 for Thursday, $75 for Friday and $85 each for Saturday and Sunday. The youth ticket program offers a maximum of two children ages 15 and under to be admitted free per one adult ticket.

Tickets are paperless for TOUR Championship and will be mobile entry.

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:

TOUR Championship officers general parking passes for $20 and shuttle buses from the Georgia World Congress Center at Marshalling Yard and Yellow Lot.

An additional shuttle will run at the North DeKalb Mall on Saturday and Sunday.

For rideshare, there is a drop-off and pick-up area at the Drew Charter School located across the street.

CELLPHONE POLICY

According to TOUR Championship policy, cellphones must be on silent at all times and no flash photography is allowed. No golfer wants to hear a cellphone ring when he’s getting ready for an important shot.

If you have to take or make a phone call, there are designated areas around the course. You can take pictures and videos but only for your personal use. Livestreaming is not allowed.

BAG POLICY:

These bags and items will be allowed:

• Personal bags 6″x 6″ or smaller
• Clear plastic, vinyl or other carry on items not exceeding 12″ x 6″ x 12″
• A 1-gallon clear, resealable plastic bag
• Reusable plastic or metal cups/bottles that are empty upon entry and exit, cannot hold more than 32 ounces
• Umbrellas without sleeve
• Portable radios with headsets
• Collapsible chairs without chair bags and seat cushions without carrying case or pockets
• Binoculars without a case
• Medically necessary materials, strollers, diaper bags, other essential baby supplies

These items will  NOT  be allowed:

• Bags larger than 6″x6″, clear bags larger than 12″x6″x12″
• Glass cups or bottles of any kind except for medical/infant needs
• Memorabilia including pin flags, photos, trading cards, balls, other sports paraphernalia
• Computers, laptops, video cameras, DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras
• Posters, banners and signs
• Beverages or coolers
• Selfie sticks
• Lawn chairs or oversized chairs

The best place to get an autograph is behind the No. 18 green in the Youth Autograph Area as players finish their rounds Thursday-Sunday. Most players who finish their round will walk the fence line on the way back to the clubhouse to sign autographs.

PGA TOUR season finale to be contested over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 28 – Sept. 1, 2024

ATLANTA – The TOUR Championship will make a one-year return to Labor Day weekend in 2024 as part of today’s announcement of the 2024 PGA TOUR schedule, with the FedExCup Playoffs finale to be held at East Lake Golf Club from Wednesday, Aug. 28 – Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024. Traditionally contested during the third week in August, the TOUR Championship will be played one week later in 2024 to account for the Men’s Olympic Golf Competition in Paris from July 29 – August 4. The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and FedExCup Playoffs schedule also marks a return to a calendar-year season, running from the first week in January through the TOUR Championship in early September. Along with the adjusted date, the 2024 TOUR Championship will create added anticipation and give fans the opportunity to be among the first to see the new-look East Lake Golf Club following the full renovation led by Andrew Green. The club announced plans for the renovation in January of 2022. “While we are hard at work preparing for an exciting week at East Lake Golf Club later this month, we are excited about a one-time return to Labor Day weekend in 2024,” TOUR Championship Executive Director Alex Urban said. “The TOUR Championship is a staple in the annual Atlanta sports landscape, and we look forward to being an inflection point in an epic sports weekend.” With the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs beginning this week in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, players are fighting to be among the 30 best to qualify for their spot in the season finale at East Lake Golf Club, August 23-27 . Scottie Scheffler wins RBC Heritage, fourth in 5 PGA Tour events

Scottie Scheffler’s season of excellence continued Sunday at the RBC Heritage. He finished it up on Monday with a three-stroke victory, claiming the event’s signature tartan jacket to go with his green jacket.

He’s the first player to win four starts in a five-star stretch since Tiger Woods in 2007-08. He’s the first person since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to follow up a Masters win with a win the following week (Langer also won at Harbour Town). Gary Player in 1978 and Jimmy Demaret in 1950 also accomplished the feat.

Scheffler has also won the Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational during this stretch. In the Houston Open, he finished in a tie for second, and missed a putt to force a playoff. Scheffler now has 10 career wins, all since February 2022.

“I’m just maturing as a person. On the course mentally the last month or so is as good mentally as I’ve been in a long time, and I think that’s why I’m seeing some of the results,” Scheffler told Golf Channel after the win.

Play was called due to darkness Sunday at the event at Harbour Town Links in Hilton Head, S.C., with Scheffler five strokes ahead and three holes to play. There was a 2 1/2 hour weather delay from 4:28 p.m. until 7 p.m. that forced the PGA Tour into a Monday finish.

When he returned Scheffler finished the final three holes in 45 minutes. His bogey on 18 was his first bogey of the week. Sahith Theegala finished second at 16-under, with Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay tied for third at 15-under. Justin Thomas was among the group tied for fifth, a good week for the embattled star.

Scheffler punctuated Sunday with a head-shaking 15th hole — he had an exceedingly rare mishit with his second shot, going just left into the water. As he was taking the drop, CBS attempted to foreshadow what was coming by flashing a graphic that it had been 65 holes since Scheffler had a double bogey. The streak continued. He hit his approach shot with spin, landed on the slope and rolled it to 11 feet. The horn sounded to end play but Scheffler was allowed to finish the hole — he drained the putt, pumped his fist like he had just won the tournament and exited to a waiting golf cart.

Scheffler did not show up at Hilton Head until Wednesday after winning his second Masters, played nine holes in the pro-am and said he would see the rest of the course during his first round on Thursday. It was daring a signature event field to beat him, but instead, he shot a first-round 69, followed that up with a 65 on Friday and a 63 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into Sunday.

“I played some really good golf in the middle of the tournament. It’s nice to be done,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler shot a final round 68. He is not in the field for this week’s Zurich Classic in New Orleans. It’s not clear yet if he’ll play before the PGA Championship from May 16-19 as he and his wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.

1. As GOLF’s Sean Zak wrote last week , the PGA of America is about three months behind its usual schedule of announcing the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain. Any reason there might be a holdup, and do you anticipate the announcement coming at the PGA Championship in a couple of weeks? And, lastly, any chance it’s anybody but Tiger Woods?

Josh Berhow, managing editor ( @Josh_Berhow ): I would assume the captain has been picked by now — or knows it’s about to become official — so he’s had the ability to start looking ahead to Bethpage. That said, if that’s not the case, then I have no clue what’s going on. But from everything you read and hear it’s Tiger’s job if he wants it; although that could also be a part of the delay. Is he deciding if he wants the gig? You know he’d rather play, but being a captain in Ireland (in 2027) might not be as fun as a home game. And sitting out until 2029 at Hazeltine is a long wait.

Jessica Marksbury, senior editor ( @jess_marksbury ): I like that take, Josh. The delay must have something to do with Tiger, and a looming decision one way or the other. Maybe he doesn’t want the gig, and now there’s a mad scramble to find a replacement. He does seem to have a lot going on in the coming months and years, with the PGA Tour policy board, TGL launch, and oh yeah, his own competitive schedule. A captaincy is a lot to take on, let alone a home game at Bethpage, of all places. But the PGA Championship is certainly a perfect time to amplify whatever decision is made. 

Josh Sens, senior writer ( @joshsens ) : I agree that the lag is most likely on account of waiting for Tiger, the Hamlet of the PGA Tour. The man takes his time with his decisions. But I’d be shocked if he doesn’t take the job. A perfect man for the role, and he can take a cart!

2. Speaking of the Ryder Cup, DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings met with the media last week and reiterated that European players who bolted to LIV — like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton — can still qualify for the 2025 Ryder Cup as long as they play enough events to qualify for league membership before being selected. You can learn more about it here, but in short it means these players have a path, although it requires some effort and more DP World Tour starts during LIV Golf’s off-weeks. What are the chances Rahm, Hatton and other Ryder Cup hopefuls go this route?

Jon Rahm can still play Ryder Cup if he does 1 thing

Berhow: We’ll know soon enough, when one of those potential windows opens and we’ll see if any of those players enter. I think they will, especially Rahm. It’s a little extra work and travel, sure, but these guys don’t play in the middle row of a discount airline. This would be good for the Ryder Cup, too. Specifically referring to Rahm and Hatton, they bring a ton of fire to the event.

Marksbury: I can’t imagine why any European LIV player who wants to be a part of the Ryder Cup wouldn’t take this opportunity. Yeah, it’s a bit of a time and travel commitment, but it’s also additional reps for the players in full-field tournaments, not to mention a potential high-profile boost for the existing field. Seems like a win-win.

Sens: Sure, it takes some effort. But as Josh says, it’s hardly the heaviest of lifts. We will see both Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton on the European team in 2025. Bank it. The powers that be have made it relatively easy for them without having to lose too much face. And since Rahm and Hatton have both made it clear how much they love the event, it’s hard to see them not taking advantage of the window.

3. In an effort to reward pros who stayed loyal to the PGA Tour and didn’t leave for LIV Golf, the newly formed PGA Tour Enterprises created a Player Equity Program to compensate its membership in aggregate equity. Emails were sent out last week, informing some of the 193 eligible players how much they would receive out of the $930 million (although $750 million would go to a group of 36 players; learn more about the breakdown here ). While these numbers were not made public, The Telegraph reported Tiger was set to receive $100 million in equity, and McIlroy as much as $50 million. Is this enough to make the stars happy?

Berhow: Probably. But let’s just hope these two sides get a deal done sooner rather than later. The sport needs it, not more news about rich golfers making more millions cause they might have turned down a previous offer to become richer.

Marksbury: I’m not sure that many Tour players initially stayed because they expected some kind of future equity payment as compensation, but for the players who did end up receiving a check, I’m sure it’s very welcome. Still, for players like Tiger and Rory, I imagine it’s far, far less than what they would have commanded from LIV. The players who stayed did so for reasons other than money, I think.

Sens: I dunno. Clearly, for some people, no amount of money is enough. I figure these guys are probably satisfied with this particular exchange. The more important question in the long run is, how happy are fans with the product the pro game is putting out? Maybe they should dole out some ‘loyalty’ money to folks at home to ensure that they keep tuning in.

4. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry won the Zurich Classic , beating Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer on the first playoff hole. McIlroy and Lowry, who decided to play the event on a whim, entered the week with 26 combined PGA Tour wins and five major titles, while Ramey and Trainer had won just once each. At the Zurich, qualified pros can pick any partner as long as they are a PGA Tour member. Does this straightforward format of coming up with teams make the Zurich imperfect, or perfect?

Berhow: At first glance it seems imperfect, as you might assume the powerhouse teams always win when you can just pick your partner and guys like Rory and Shane can team up, but that hasn’t been the case. Sure, Cantlay and Xander enter every year, but they have only won once. Ryan Palmer asked Jon Rahm to play once and they won in 2019 — smart move by Palmer — but you also have a tournament like last year, when Nick Hardy and Davis Riley won. Even Cam Smith won twice before he really became Cam Smith. In short, these guys are all good, and they can all win on any given week, especially with a unique format like this that tests your strategy and teamwork. So I’m going to call it perfect.

Marksbury: Great point, Josh. I’m torn on this one. As fun as it is to see Tour buddies chumming it up, I can’t help but think a blind draw could really spice things up. To your point, all these guys are good. Some unexpected pairings — for the players, and the viewers! — would be really fun.

Sens: I like it. It allows for some entertaining twists, including brothers (the Hojgaards) playing together, and senior citizens like Russ Cochran getting in as the father of his partner’s caddie. You wouldn’t want this kind of thing week in and week out. But it’s a fun break from the same old, as is the four-ball, foursomes format.

5. Let’s close with some indoor golf. Woods announced Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner will join his TGL team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, which will debut in 2025. What are your thoughts on Woods’ roster?

Berhow: As I wrote last week, it seems like a selection of guys who are both A) good at golf; and B) should be good on TV. Kisner isn’t as competitive as the other three right now, but watching this isn’t just about these guys going low in simulator golf. It’s just as important to carry it with fun conversation, jabs, jokes and good stories. Kisner will be super valuable there.

Marksbury: I agree. This is a team with some serious personality, destined to be a league favorite regardless of how they perform. I’m looking forward to seeing the dynamic in real-time.

Sens: Right. It’s all about personalities. You need that in televised goofy golf. Whether those personalities will be enough to make indoor golf of this kind interesting… that’s another question. We’ll see.

Bosom buddies: rory mcilroy, shane lowry win 2024 zurich classic of new orleans in playoff, share this article.

The cream finally rose to the top at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

In a city where celebrity chefs like the late Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse rule, past major winners and European Ryder Cup stars Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry teamed up to take the title with a par on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff on Sunday in Avondale, Louisiana.

McIlroy, No. 2 in the world, and Lowry, No. 39, needed a birdie at 18 to finish with a 72-hole total of 25-under 263 and force a playoff with Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer who finished their round two hours and 59 minutes earlier after shooting a tournament-tying 9-under 63 in the alternate-shot format employed in the final round.

McIlroy earned his 25 th career Tour title, tying Tommy Armour, Johnny Miller and Macdonald Smith for 23 rd on the all-time Tour wins list.

“To win any PGA Tour event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends, we’ve known each other for a long, long time, probably like over 20 years, so to think about where we met and where we’ve come from, to be on this stage and do this together, really, really cool journey that we’ve been a part of, and yeah, just awesome to be able to do it alongside this guy,” McIlroy said.

On paper, the playoff was a mismatch of epic proportions. Ramey, 31, entered the week ranked 233 rd in the world and outside the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings, his lone win at the opposite-field Corales Puntacana Championship in 2022.

Trainer, 33, won the 2019 Puerto Rico Open but has struggled so much in the ensuing years that he considered finding another line of work. He entered the week ranked 387 th in the world and 171 st in the FedEx Cup standings. With both in need of a partner last year, they joined forces and recorded a top-10 finish at the Tour’s lone official team event during the FedEx Cup season.

“So decided to run it back this year, and I feel like we have a good thing going,” Trainer said.

On a windswept Sunday, they combined to make 11 birdies, including at the first five holes on the back nine and take the clubhouse lead.

“We just had it going so well,” Trainer said. “I don’t want to take all the credit for the putting because Chad also putted extremely well, but it worked out so good.”

Ramey agreed that Trainer’s putter was deadly and the birdies kept piling up.

“I finally had to putt on hole 13 or 14 and I hadn’t putted since the second hole,” Ramey said. “I was just trying to give Martin some good looks.”

Then they had time for lunch and waited as Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard (69), who finished third, gave it their best shot. Hubbard credited a text from his brother on Saturday night that helped pump him up about playing in the second-to-last group with McIlroy and Lowry, telling him to treat it as his personal Ryder Cup. “This is about the closest thing certainly that I’ve had so far in my career. I definitely took that to heart and tried to be really grateful for that opportunity today to kind of feel what that might feel like, playing against an all-Euro team and that crazy format. Alternate shot is just so stressful,” Hubbard said.

Narrowly missing out on joining the playoff when Brehm’s 10-foot birdie putt from the fringe at the last burned the right edge couldn’t spoil what still amounted to a successful partnership.

“We’re still going to party tonight,” Hubbard added.

For much of the day, it looked like 54-hole leaders Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn, who grew up playing together in Ogden, Utah, and had been teammates in junior high, high school and and college at BYU, would both be celebrating their first Tour victories. However, they made a double bogey at a par 3 on each side, the latter at the 17 th hole and it sealed their fate, a fourth-place tie (72).

McIlroy and Lowry entered the day trailing by two and their hopes for wearing the belts awarded to the champions became dicier after making bogey on two of their first three holes. But they bounced back with four birdies in a five-hole stretch starting at the seventh and played the last 12 holes in 5 under.

“It showed a lot about our characters and how much we wanted to win this thing,” Lowry said.

None of it came easily, including at 13 when McIlroy had to play from 111 yards in a sand-filled divot at 13 and chunked it. Still, they salvaged par. At 14, McIlroy drew a beauty at the par 3 that stopped 10 feet past the hole and twirled his club in satisfaction, but Lowry, who switched putters this week and admitted he never fully trusted the club, misread the putt. At 16, McIlroy drove into a fairway bunker but Lowry wedged from 133 yards to 10 feet – “pulled it a bit,” he said – and McIlroy clenched his fist when the birdie putt dropped to make it a three-way tie at the top. Just when they seem poised to put the tournament away, Lowry missed the 17 th green wide right and they failed to rescue par and dropped one stroke behind again. But McIlroy’s pitch from left of the green at the par-5 18 th  hopped and stopped 3 feet from the hole for the tying birdie and a round of 4-under 68.

The playoff, which returned to 18, lasted just one hole because Trainer duffed a chip for his team’s third shot and after making putt after putt all day, he failed to convert a 6-foot par putt to keep their dream of winning alive. Trainer looked up to the sky in dismay, knowing he had pushed the putt right of the hole.

“Golf is hard, and sometimes it doesn’t go your way,” he said.

It marked the first win of the Tour season for McIlroy, who had recorded just one top-10 finish to date at the Valero Texas Open earlier this month, and the first victory for Lowry since claiming the 2019 British Open. (The latter also became exempt for the final three Signature events.)

“We felt like coming into the week that we both could do with a big jump in the FedEx Cup, and we both said at the start of the week, let’s go and get 400 points each. That’s what we’ve done, and I nearly feel a little bit bad taking them because Rory carried me a lot of the way. But yeah, they’re mine, and they’re not going away,” Lowry said.

From playing together in junior golf to the Ryder Cup and now winners at the Zurich Classic, Lowry and McIlroy have shared a special bond.

“Anytime this man wants to partner with me, I’ll be happy to do so,” Lowry said.

“I’d say we’re going to come back and defend next year; what do you think?” McIlroy said to his partner.

“I hope so,” Lowry said. “I’ll be here.”

Shunning Rory McIlroy would represent epic embarrassment for PGA Tour

World No 2 basically auditioning for acceptance to return to policy board is faintly ludicrous in increasingly fractured sport

T he most unpalatable and unlikely scenario could be a necessary one. Rory McIlroy to LIV has been rumoured, slapped down, rumoured and slapped down. Yet as the PGA Tour procrastinates over completion of a deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, and even the formal involvement of McIlroy himself, one wonders if it may take something nuclear to allow golf to wake up to the haplessness of its present, fractured state. Should McIlroy sign for golf’s rebel tour the establishment would be sent into a level of frenzy so serious that collaboration between the PGA Tour, LIV and the PIF would surely transpire in a heartbeat.

There is no suggestion this will happen. Still, Greg Norman knew precisely what he was doing in recent days. “If Rory was willing to sit down and have a conversation with us, would we be happy to sit down with him?” Norman said. “100%.” McIlroy is not actually the PGA Tour’s main concern. The live prospect of LIV continuing a talent drain on established tours into 2025 should be the prime cause for fear. While not McIlroy, it could be Viktor Hovland . If not Hovland, it could be Tommy Fleetwood. The PGA Tour and its marquee events are being materially harmed by golf’s lack of compatibility. This will continue to be the case while the PGA Tour wanders aimlessly on one path and LIV confidently on another.

A Monday morning conference call will determine whether or not McIlroy will make a return to the PGA Tour’s policy board and become a director of the recently established PGA Tour Enterprises. This vote should have taken place on Wednesday. It is a telling indicator of the corporate muddle that McIlroy – not the most famous individual in golf but surely the most influential – was not immediately welcomed with open arms. It is faintly ludicrous that the world No 2 and a proper needle-mover in golf has to hang around and audition for acceptance. The 34-year-old has connections across business and golf that should render a role for him a complete no-brainer. Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of the PIF, will take McIlroy’s call; a courtesy unlikely to given to others not named Tiger Woods.

The only assumption to be drawn from the needless delay is that there are those who are hardly impressed by McIlroy stepping back into prominence. The Northern Irishman has been candid about his desire for a global game, where the best play the best in all corners of the globe. If top-level golf was created today, this is precisely the model that would be followed. Yet for too long – and still now – people involved in the PGA Tour are obsessed only by the PGA Tour. It is an insular standpoint which, combined with Saudi riches, has left the organisation forced into a commercial partnership with a group of US-based sports owners to keep heads above water. Even with that agreement in place the PGA Tour’s medium-term outlook, with $20m events not nearly enough people care about, isn’t positive.

As the sport loses eyeballs, players have become overly empowered. Golfers would never ask commercial types to line up putts for them but seem to believe they are qualified to make business calls. This is the reason a group of directors did not instantly tick a box and return McIlroy to the fold. Among them is Patrick Cantlay. McIlroy has already been plain about the fact he and the world No 8 “see the world quite differently”. Which is fine. In fact, it is perhaps essential in a boardroom.

Nobody knows precisely what Cantlay wants because he has passed up countless opportunities to articulate it. At Sawgrass, immediately before he joined a trip to the Bahamas to meet Rumayyan, Cantlay was so vague in response to questions about his sport’s future that it was tricky to keep eyes open while listening. A day after McIlroy’s potential reappearance was reported, Cantlay was on the interview schedule at the Zurich Classic. By total coincidence, Cantlay’s practice schedule meant he was not able to appear for questioning.

Woods is intriguing in this situation. It is only fair to believe fellow professionals who state the 15-time major winner takes his board position seriously, despite this being an individual who has had others basically wiping his backside since he shot to worldwide fame. Woods had no previous requirement to study spreadsheets. Despite not being a board member at the time, Woods was upset at having no prior knowledge of the 6 June framework agreement announced between the PGA Tour and PIF. This resentment seems to have lingered. If anyone had cause for anger, it was McIlroy; he earlier did so much of the PGA Tour’s public bidding against LIV. Rather than sulk, McIlroy wants to be a force for greater good.

The bigger issue is that Woods’s entire legacy is wrapped up in the PGA Tour. He needs the PGA Tour, above or even at the cost of all else, to thrive and prosper. If the shape of elite golf changes it would only be natural for Woods to ponder how his achievements may be viewed decades from now. Like Cantlay, though, Woods has been hopelessly opaque when placed behind a microphone.

There are other reasons for McIlroy to be involved. If the PGA Tour wants to present itself as an upwardly mobile organisation, it surely cannot operate without European presence in its decision making. There is scepticism about the value of a strategic alliance between the PGA and DP World Tour; that is only enhanced by such a US-centric boardroom.

A conference call on Monday will determine the next step. Shunning McIlroy would represent an epic embarrassment. Whether the four-time major winner is back to front and centre, this must also be the trigger for others on the PGA Tour to finally display the courage of their convictions. Minus McIlroy, golf is sleepwalking.

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Stephen Ames celebrated his 60th birthday with a successful title defense in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, closing with a 5-under 67 on Sunday for his eighth PGA Tour Champions victory.

A stroke behind Paul Broadhurst after matching the tournament record Saturday with a 64, Ames had two eagles in the final round. He won by four strokes, finishing at 14-under 202 at TPC Sugarloaf for his record third victory in the event.

Broadhurst, the 58-year-old Englishman coming off a victory last week in the Invited Celebrity Classic, closed with a 72 to tie for second with Doug Barron (69). K.J. Choi (70) and Steven Alker (71) were 9 under.

Ames became the first multiple winner this year on the tour, also taking the Chubb Classic in February. He has six victories in his last 29 starts after winning twice in his first 175 — the first at TPC Sugarloaf in 2017 — on the 50-and-over tour. A naturalized Canadian citizen from Trinidad and Tobago, Ames won four times on the PGA Tour.

Ames opened with a birdie on the par-4 first, eagled the par-5 sixth and par-4 13th and birdied the par-4 14th. He bogeyed the par-4 15th and 17th and birdied the par-5 18th.

The PGA Tour has its only team event coming up at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The field features Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry for the first time, along with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

New Orleans has three sets of brothers among the 80 teams, and two of them are twins. Parker and Pierceson Coody are PGA Tour rookies. Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard are from Denmark.
