Spark Plugs for Freedom 106

victory cross country tour spark plugs

Hi guys, some of you may experimented alternate plugs such as iridium, double/triple heads, or cooler plugs. Im a non believer in iridium, but at the same time, the market still has it for more than 10 years. Any findings to share?

I have ngk iridium's. Std ngk's, seem to last 15,000 k's, on average, before i get a slight miss. Only done , 5,000 k's on iridium:s, so far....so, i cam't say they are any better. I run my motor hard, higher rpm, not a cruiser.

more money same benefits. Guys will say faster starting not true and better performance not true and gas mileage will stay the same. Most of the top tuners say plugs are only good for about 10K

Just going for the longer life, no mechanical performance gain's that i can tell.

I run factory plugs. I throw a new set in every riding season. I put about 8 to 10 thousand a year on. Never a problem. I have the big bore kit also.

just go with stock plugs if you plan on changing them often. Iridium and platinum last longer than the stock plugs. I think iridium lasts longer than platinum. I think all other plugs are just gimmicks. You don't need to change your plugs every 10k miles.

Used Iridium in aircraft applications and find they are standard in some due to their longer life. They are in my Cages as well and recommended for three of them for longevity to 60,000 miles. All that said, I just used standard in the Victory and change out at 10,000 miles and really don’t believe they are necessary unless it makes you feel better...

I replaced the plugs for the first time at 48,000 miles and put iridium ones in. Now at 94,000 I think I will check and maybe replace them again.

All this spark plug talk reminded me I could use some new ones. Just ordered NGK DCPR6EIX, Box of 4 for $35 on Amazon.

I went iridium for a few weeks... They were too hot for my bike, I started pinking horribly after installing them and nothing I did besides retarding my timing... It was 90 degree day, stopped at an AutoZone, got the regular ngk popped em in all was right again.

Well now I'm thinking I should send them back and order the regular ones?

I'm holding out for laser ignition. They'd probably run about $300+ each and last 1 season, but I'd be able to say "My bike uses lasers" so it's all good.

you'll also want to get the laser headlights

Ten for $42 on Amazon right now. That makes them $4.20 a pop. Amazon.com: Set (10pcs) NGK Standard Spark Plugs Stock 3481 Nickel Core Tip Standard 0.036in DCPR6E: Automotive Same thing is at Autozone for $2.69 a pop. https://www.autozone.com/external-e...ing=search&isIgnoreVehicle=false&newYmme=true

Get Iridium! Your motor will thank you!

Iridium plugs use a special gapping tool. If you use the round circle caper be prepared to throw the plug away when you brake the elicited

They are pre gapped no need to set gap

I got mine and my side stand puck. Hopefully I'll be able to get them on this weekend.

We're supposed to change the plugs??????

victory cross country tour spark plugs

I got about 75K miles out of the originals, changed them because I got a new set of plug wires.

For $6 I change my plugs every year. Spring time oil change. I don’t want to hear it’s a waste of money. Fresh plugs, fresh oil, fresh tires , clean Lloyds filter, lube all pivot points ...all good. Garage therapy.

Changed the plugs on my car at 105k that came with Iridium NGK plugs from the factory, plugs still looked almost new!

I just changed my plugs on both bikes. My 13 seems to have a much better start. The 08 I really couldn't tell a difference in starting but they only had 14.5K on them, but I figured I'd upgrade them too. I haven't ridden them yet so I'll have to report back after some miles are added. So far so good.

Rode the 13 today and it ran great. It is cooler right now so I'll have to wait and see what it does in higher temps.

Accel spark wires thumb up http://www.victoryforums.com/showthread.php?t=5638 One day i will order them

victory cross country tour spark plugs

In the related-and-FWIW dept.: Last (2014) fall, I ordered the Victory red plug wires, 2876145-015. Googling a few minutes ago, I see that that part has been superceded with another number. I also ordered NGK iridium plugs (DCPR6EIX 8196), and went to my local Harbor Freight and bought a spark plug boot puller ( http://www.harborfreight.com/spark-plug-boot-puller-65440.html ). One day over the winter, I replaced the stock plugs and wires; I had about 27,000 miles on my '12 XCT at the time. I had ordered the wires mostly because I'd read a few posts here or on the other forum, about the wires coming apart. As it turns out: 1) The boot puller couldn't fit down the narrow and deep plug hole, to get underneath the boot, so I didn't use it. 2) I grasped the boots, by hand, as low and as gently as possible, and twisted and pulled a few times, and they came off. I don't believe I damaged the stock wires, but I used the new ones anyway. This is a pretty trivial project, provided you have an air gun to blow out the wells after wire removal, a 5/8" plug socket that's not too thick, an appropriate torque wrench, a little anti-seize, a little dielectric grease, and a little common sense. I haven't noticed any change in performance after the new plugs and wires, although I think the red wires look nice. With the iridium plugs, I expect not to bother doing this again for some years.

victory cross country tour spark plugs

I bought a set of the chrome-and-blue wires from WitchDoctor for looks only. Any performance gain you get by simply changing spark plug wires will range from non-existent to almost non-existent.

victory cross country tour spark plugs

I got the yellow wires , no performance gain whatsoever ...

victory cross country tour spark plugs

I got the red Taylors from WD. Threw in an expensive set of Iridiums and fired her up! WOW ! Holy CRAP! I cant believe the difference! Really none what so ever but I did notice a little smoother throttle response. It was tune up time so I splurged a little.

I put a set of magnecors on the wifes bike ( http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/main.htm ) If you want to learn about wires poke around their site. Especially the faq I put them on any bike that I am replacing the wires on because they last the life of the bike. I've never had a set fail. One less thing to worry about. Even if you don't want their wires reading their site is worth the time.

MAGNECOR yeah I got thier plug leads on my old V8 Ford, Thier leads are not only top quality but they are available in black, normal diameter which was important to me to retain an original look under the hood. Theyre a good lead, I agree.

Hard to say, but possibly more duration and less dwell time.

The fine print reads " Contact your mechanic if you experience acceleration that lasts more than 4 hours" :ltr:

How to Find Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-digit number used to identify and look up information about your vehicle.

The exact location varies based on model, but is typically found:

  • Off-Road: Stamped on the frame or left rear wheel well.
  • Snowmobile: The right side tunnel between the certification label and emissions certification label. The VIN can be found on a sticker and also is etched into the tunnel.
  • Slingshot: A label affixed to the frame on the driver's side of the vehicle, stamped on vehicle's frame where the hood meets the area directly in front of the steering wheel or behind the base of the windshield, if your Slingshot is equipped with one.
  • Motorcycle: The exact location varies based on model, but is typically found on the left- or right-hand side of the steering head.

Do you want to add this VIN to My Garage?

Add your VIN to My Garage to save your vehicle so you can easily and quickly find products that are specifically made to fit your vehicle. You will also have access owners manuals, vehicle specifications, maintenance schedules, and look up error codes.
