Getting There - Trips to the Dominican Republic

Entry requirements.

All travelers between the U.S. and the Caribbean are required to carry passports beginning January 1, 2007 as mandated by the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. We encourage you to begin the passport application process early to avoid unexpected delays. Travelers should allow a minimum of six weeks between their application submission and receipt of passport. Passports can be expedited for an additional fee. Visas are not required for US Citizens. Visitors are required to purchase a $10 (U.S.) Tourist Card for each member of their party before entering the immigration line. This card is payable in cash only, travelers checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Foreign residents of the United States and all other foreign visitors not holding a US Passport must contact the appropriate government authorities to determine the entry and visa requirements.

Vaccinations

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends Malaria vaccinations for those traveling to Punta Cana and intending on visiting the rural regions of the Dominican Republic.  Health requirements and information are subject to change without prior notice and we advise travelers to visit www.cdc.gov for the most current health advisories.

Departure Tax

The departure tax is included in most airline tickets but we advise checking with an agent or your airline for more information. A $10 tourist card is required for entry.

What to Wear

Light shirts and shorts are best suited for the warm year-round weather. Some restaurants may require jackets for men and dresses for ladies.

The official currency of the Dominican Republic is the Dominican peso. Most tourist establishments accept and sometimes prefer the U.S. dollar because of its strong economic standing. Major credit cards and traveler’s checks are also accepted at most resort areas and ATMs can be found within the resort areas.

Dominican’s drive on the right side of the road and numerous rental agencies provide rental cars for drivers over the age of 25. Driving in the Dominican is best left to professional taxis or resort-provided transportation.

Communications

Communications in the Dominican Republic is up-to-date and features five morning newspapers, approximately one million telephone lines and high speed Internet access.

Electricity

The electricity in the Dominican Republic follows the U.S. standard of 110 Volts/60 Hertz. We recommend using surge protectors for computers and appliances due to occasional voltage irregularities throughout the country.

Despite relatively clean drinking water in the Dominican Republic, it is still advised that visitors drink bottled water.

The Dominican Republic has a total of seven international airports:

  • Punta Cana International Airport
  • Las Americas International Airport (serves Santo Domingo)
  • La Romana International Airport
  • Santiago International Airport
  • Arroyo Barril International Airport (serves Samana)
  • Maria Montez International Airport (serves Baharona)
  • Gregorio Luperon International Airport (serves Puerto Plata)

Airport transfers are included with some Dominican Republic resort packages, while not with others. Arrivals into one specific airport may include transfers but flying into a different airport may not.  For example, guests staying in Punta Cana will find that transfers from Santo Domingo will not be included and the price of the transportation will be much higher.  Please select the appropriate airport or consult an agent for details.

The Dominican Republic is an impressive blend of geographical wonders that span from crystalline beaches to towering mountain peaks. A series of tropical jungles and pine forests dress the countryside and are intermingled with expansive desert plains. Swaying palms serve as a border to the dramatic landscape and introduce the white, gray and gold sands that slowly descend into the Caribbean waters. Just under the waves is an equally impressive ecology of brilliant coral reefs and teeming marine habitats. Remnants of wrecked vessels can be found along these reefs and shed light on the many cultures that have sought the beauty of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic boasts an average temperature between 78 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Sunny days cooled by the gentle breeze of Caribbean trade winds are a constant year-round phenomenon.

Spanish is the official language of the Dominican Republic.

The government in the Dominican Republic is structured much like that in the U.S., with a democratic process of elections, three government branches and a presidential term of four years.

The enduring history of the Dominican Republic traces as far back as 8,000 years ago to the arrival of the Taino Indians. It wasn’t until Christopher Columbus’ famous voyage in 1492 that Europeans arrived on the island and enslaved the Taino Indians in order to harvest the gold discovered on the island. The centuries following European contact were marked by colonization and war. Today, relics from the ancient Taino civilization and structures from the colonial era stand as a monument to the rich history of the Dominican Republic.

Cultural Experience

Music, food and baseball best describe the cultural obsessions of the Dominican people. Merengue is the national dance of the Dominicans and its jubilant spirit can be seen in every cultural affair. Seasoning the music and accompanying the festivities is the savory taste of fresh seafood and ripe island fruits. Colorful cuisine is part of the Dominican way of life and is an important part of your stay. The bustling areas near most all inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic are surrounded by the many restaurants and marketplaces that fill the local streets. Handcrafted cigars, sweet rum and dazzling jewels make an excellent excuse for engaging the culture and bringing some of it home.

The time zone in the Dominican Republic is Eastern Caribbean Time (GMT- 4hrs.) Destination information is subject to change without prior notice.

Attractions

The Dominican Republic is framed by more than 1,000 miles of sugar-soft beaches that are crowned with coconut palms and refreshing trade winds. Dominican Republic all inclusive vacations provide travelers with popular resort beaches and uninhabited shores, making the coastline perfect for every vacation agenda.

Robust flavors from Antillean and Creole recipes make up the native dishes of the Dominican Republic. Hearty rice, fresh fish and crisp vegetables are tastefully etched into the quaint cafes and elegant restaurants that sprinkle the coastline. Many all inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic offer these traditional dishes as well as International fare and specialty cuisine.

Mysterious jungles, towering mountains and winding rivers challenge explorers to the untamed landscape of the Dominican Republic. Descend from the headwaters of the Jimenoa River into expansive canyons, thick woodlands and finally to the cascades of Jimenoa Falls. Take a four-wheel safari through sugar plantations, uninhabited beaches and lively marketplaces. Or climb to the summit of the Caribbean’s highest mountain, Pico Duarte. Be sure to find out what excursions are offered through your Dominican Republic all inclusive resort so you don't miss out on these thrilling experiences.

Sports and Recreations

Scuba divers and snorkelers are naturally drawn to the warm, clear waters of the Dominican Republic. Sunken ships, elaborate coral reefs and colorful marine life surround divers and consistently rank the country as one of the top scuba destinations in the Caribbean. Just on the surface is a world of winds and waves for water sports lovers to enjoy. The brisk trade winds offer excellent opportunities for windsurfing, sailing and every kind of nautical exploit. The premier land sport is found on rolling fairways, manicured greens and breathtaking seascapes. More than 20 courses wind masterfully through the Dominican terrain and boast the designs of golf legends such as Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus.

No matter the nightly agenda, travelers can expect their evening affairs to be filled with the celebrant spirit of the Dominican Republic. More About Dominican Republic, Punta Cana

Located at the easternmost region of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is a resort town known for its long stretch – 12 miles to be exact – of white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and pristine vegetation. Although it might be one of the lesser-known golfing destinations, don’t let that fool you, it is home to some of the most impressive championship golf courses around. To the north is Bávaro – the most developed section of Punta Cana, offering an additional 30 miles of white-sand beaches, which rank it among the longest and most continuous beaches in the Caribbean. Together, Punta Cana and Bávaro make up what is known as the Coconut Coast – where the wide beaches are lined with resorts, palm trees and coral reefs that make the water calm. To the south is La Romana, famous for its sugar cane plantation, and of course the dreamy white-sand beaches. It is an interesting place to snorkel among tropical marine life and shipwrecks just off the coast of Catalina Island.

Sargassum/Seaweed Advisory

Sargassum is a free-floating seaweed that is especially prolific in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. While beneficial to ocean life, these large free-floating seaweed mats often wash up on beaches. The amount of seaweed on the beaches fluctuates based on the time of year and ocean currents. While resorts do their best to maintain the beaches for their guests, you may experience some inconvenience during your stay.

Top Experiences

5* All inclusive holidays in Dominican Republic

3 night all inclusive holidays in dominican republic, 4 night all inclusive holidays in dominican republic, why is the dominican republic good for all-inclusive vacations.

The Dominican Republic is one of the best destinations in the Caribbean for all-inclusive vacations, and you'll find a wide variety of experiences alongside luxurious modern conveniences. You'll find all-inclusive benefits along the beach, in the city and in the countryside, so it's easy to customize your vacation as you see fit. In fact, some of the best all-inclusive accommodations in the country allow you to enjoy a few different experiences at once, allowing you to split your time between the city and the beach however you like.

What are some of the best destinations for all-inclusive vacations in the Dominican Republic?

The success of an all-inclusive vacation depends on what you're looking to get out of it, which is why it's always important to book something that caters specifically to your unique needs. For example, if you want to get out in the great outdoors, Punta Cana offers beaches, forests and more, all in a single location. Or you can book an all-inclusive vacation in Santo Domingo to have all your meals and accommodations taken care of while you explore the city and its pristine historic sites.

What to expect from an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic

On an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic in 2024, you can enjoy an island paradise that offers pristine beaches, tropical terrains and welcoming cities in equal measure. With an all-inclusive vacation, everything is taken care of in advance, leaving you with a worry-free experience that allows you to simply take in unending fun in the sun.

What are the benefits of booking an all-inclusive Dominican Republic vacation?

By booking a Dominican Republic all-inclusive vacation, it's easy to keep track of your budget when planning your adventure. Everything from your accommodation to your food and the activities you plan on doing is booked in advance, so there aren't any surprise fees to worry about. Plus, an all-inclusive experience offers everything you need in a central location, so after you arrive, you won't have to worry about any more travel until it's time to go home.

Can I book an all-inclusive trip including airfare?

All-inclusive vacations with airfare and meals are common when travelling to Dominican Republic, and you can find them for yourself by utilizing the filter for all the meal plans that you're interested in. By booking airfare in addition to your accommodation, you could find yourself benefitting from a package deal offering savings of up to 53%.

What are the benefits of Dominican Republic all-inclusive vacations that are adults-only?

Booking an adults-only all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic allows you to enjoy a notably laid-back experience in a relaxed and tranquil environment. Without any kids running around, you'll find yourself surrounded by adults looking to relax just as much as you want to, so everyone keeps things light and easygoing. Plus, several adult-oriented amenities are common, including bars and nightclubs.

Can I book all-inclusive packages?

Yes, all-inclusive Dominican Republic vacation packages are readily available no matter what part of the country you're looking to visit, though they tend to be especially popular around the shore. Keep in mind that prices can vary quite a bit but may be lower if you book closer to your travel date. Having flexible dates is always helpful when looking for deals on all-inclusive packages.

Can I book cheap vacations to the Dominican Republic that are all-inclusive?

Cheap all-inclusive vacations to Caribbean are common, and the Dominican Republic is no exception, offering affordable experiences just a few clicks away. You can find the cheapest options available by sorting your search results by price to put the most affordable options at the top of your results list. Prices vary quite a bit, but the cheapest options tend to be around CA $1,190.

What should I look for in 5-star all-inclusive vacations?

A 5-star all-inclusive vacation is one that offers top-of-the-line comfort and amenities with special features like full-service spas and infinity pools. Take Majestic Mirage Punta Cana , for example, which offers 7 restaurants, 18 holes of golf, 3 outdoor tennis courts and a full-service spa with 17 treatment rooms. Of course, you may also be interested in Iberostar Grand Bavaro , as it's on a private beach and features a golf driving range, nightclub, sauna and kayaking activities.

What are family-friendly all-inclusive vacations in the Dominican Republic like?

Dominican Republic all-inclusive vacations for the family have features for kids and adults alike, like pools, slides and kids' clubs. The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real Resort , for example, features a waterslide and a kids' pool along with a kids' club and game room. Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort , on the other hand, offers access to a private beach along with a convenience store and babysitting services.

How can I find deals on all-inclusive vacations?

Some of the best all-inclusive vacations in the Dominican Republic are available during the off-season when you can seize generous deals. The off-season runs from May through November, so you're more likely to find discounts and deals when booking during that time period.

Can I book an all-inclusive vacation that's fully refundable?

Some fully refundable all-inclusive Dominican Republic vacations are available, and you can find them by looking for the green text reading "fully refundable" on eligible entries on the search results page. You may want to enable the fully refundable search filter as well if this is a feature you'd rather not book without.

Why should I book with Expedia?

Booking your Dominica all-inclusive vacation with Expedia allows you to book your accommodation, flight and activities in a singular location, with package deals available for booking more than 1 aspect of your trip at a time. Best all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic

Cameron Sperance

The Dominican Republic's all-inclusive resort scene might seem like the hub of spring break activity, and it certainly is — but that's only scratching the surface.

Decadent, luxury resorts have boosted this serene country's hospitality scene in recent years. Of course, there are still plenty of options we love for families or friends just looking for some warm weather and fun.

Whether you're looking to stick to your favorite loyalty program or chasing after more of a bespoke resort, the Dominican Republic has something for you.

What are the most popular resort destinations in the Dominican Republic?

Across the Dominican Republic, there are pockets full of resorts that people love to visit. The majority of resorts are centered around the larger Punta Cana area, with popular destinations being Cap Cana, a gated community with pristine beaches and great resorts; Bavaro Beach, where you'll find dozens of resorts and a lot of beach activities; and Macao, where there are fewer crowds and ample space. South of Punta Cana, La Romana has fewer resorts but ones that pack a powerful punch.

While many all-inclusive resorts lean into cheesy tropical decor and feel a bit antiquated, Dreams Flora is fresh and modern, having received a total overhaul from its previous life before it was converted into a Hyatt in 2023.

Now, the family-friendly resort offers all-suite accommodations that include a balcony or terrace, huge TVs that offer streaming capabilities, steamers to refresh your clothes before dinner, and a laid-back vibe that feels comfortable and current. Book a club-level room and get even better amenities, preferred room locations, a butler who can assist in making dinner reservations and access to some exclusive pools (including an adults-only one).

Across the resort, guests can enjoy a beautiful stretch of beach, multiple pools with swim-up bars and even a fun water park with different slides and a splash pad for kids. There are also many family-friendly entertainment options, like live shows and dance parties, and even an adults-only sports bar that turns into a nightclub.

For food, enjoy the usual buffet and beachside grills, or make a reservation for Asian fusion or French food in design-forward restaurants.

Rates at Dreams Flora start at $320 or 17,000 Hyatt points per night.

Royalton Punta Cana offers travelers the best of both worlds: a family-friendly resort with plenty to enjoy, as well as an adults-only resort-within-a resort, The Hideaway , that offers a few secluded places for grown-ups to relax.

At the property, there are beautiful, palm tree-lined pools that'll make you question if you're in the DR or Hawaii, plus a beautiful beach where you can sit back and watch the day pass by or jump onto a boat for a wild inner tube ride or parasailing excursion.

The rooms are large and comfortable, with Diamond Club-level options giving guests access to a lounge and a concierge who can help make dinner reservations at restaurants that range from an energetic teppanyaki experience to a romantic steakhouse.

At The Hideaway, splurge for a swim-up suite, and you can enjoy your own pool right outside your terrace or hop over to the adults-only pool to relax and mingle.

And if you need a little more action, guests at Royalton Punta Cana have access to a water park at the neighboring Royalton resort that's just a quick walk or shuttle ride away.

Rates at Royalton Punta Cana start at $306 or 55,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Ultimate fun in the sun comes to guests at this adults-only all-inclusive resort on Juanillo Beach. Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana wows with its amenities, suites and a wide array of dining options.

The resort's 375 suites offer a mix of ocean views and swim-up access for those willing to splurge. Larger suites feature extras like spacious balconies, living rooms and even private hot tubs. Twenty-four-hour room service and well-stocked minibars that include a mix of beer and sodas will keep you nourished when you don't feel like eating out.

Of course, do make time for Hyatt Zilara's six restaurants and seven bars — the train seating at Journeys, the resort's Indian restaurant, is as picture-perfect as the curry served. A martini nightcap at One Eyed Cat, the on-site martini bar, is the best way to end the day and channel your inner 007. Don't worry: They won't judge you if you prefer it stirred over shaken.

Activities like visits to the on-site Canapolis Water Park, live music performances at the resort amphitheater or fitness classes ranging from yoga to aqua cycling are all included in your stay. Though, you might consider paying for extras like a couples massage on the beach or a private moonlit dinner — Hyatt Zilara's romance concierge is happy to do all the planning.

Rates from $597 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night, based on double occupancy.

This Marriott Autograph Collection all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic errs more on the vibe side of a trendy boutique hotel than a packed all-inclusive resort with college students — though, it does still enjoy revelry from its more mature guests.

Royalton Chic Punta Cana is popular with couples and honeymooners thanks to its enhanced amenities like excursions to neighboring areas and catamaran tours, an all-day buffet with Caribbean fare like mofongo and even an on-site casino. Those who splurge on a Diamond Club package get added amenities like butler service, a dedicated beach area with bar service and complimentary early check-in and late checkout.

The resort's rooms and suites notably lean into Royalton Chic Punta Cana's nightlife aesthetic with purple underlit beds, but these spaces are still a cozy place to return to after a day in the sun. Larger presidential suites feature extras like swim-out pools and additional bedrooms.

Rates start at $289 or 61,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, based on double occupancy.

Those looking for a more intimate, glammed-up all-inclusive experience should look no further than Zoetry Agua Punta Cana . The 96-suite resort wows with the details like a welcome bottle of rum or tequila upon arrival, thrice- daily housekeeping, a complimentary 20-minute wellness experience and horseback riding — oh, and no set check-in or checkout time.

Suites and villas similarly amaze guests with cathedral ceilings, teak furniture and private balconies or terraces overlooking the gardens, pool or ocean. The 3-Bedroom Villa Caney Garden View is the ultimate indulgence in terms of upgrades, as this 4,100-square-foot space includes a sprawling living room, four bathrooms, walk-in closets, a plunge pool and a gazebo for outdoor dining.

Activities abound, from exploring a coral reef just offshore to lounging by the infinity pools or taking part in a wine-tasting or cigar-rolling class. But save room for time indulging at Zoetry's many restaurants — Mexican chilaquiles and Argentinian steak at the beachside Indigo restaurant are a TPG favorite.

Rates start at $527 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night, based on double occupancy.

There's a wide range of activities to keep travelers of all ages busy and engaged at this family-friendly Punta Cana all-inclusive resort: a kids' club, a water park, two lagoon-style swimming pools, catamaran excursions, Jeep tours and horseback riding just to name a few.

The all-suite property features private balconies or terraces in all accommodations as well as seating areas to stretch out and relax after a day perusing the resort. Consider upgrading to a two-bedroom suite if traveling with family — or just opt for one of Bahia's connection junior suites.

You'll find a wide-ranging mix of international cuisine at poolside and beachside restaurants to keep you well-fed and hydrated between dips amid the crashing waves (or just the splashes of your neighbor in the pool).

Rates start at $288 per night, based on double occupancy.

There's something for everyone at Hilton La Romana Resort & Spa, Punta Cana — plus the ability to earn and redeem Hilton Honors points. The sprawling property includes 356 guest rooms and suites, many of which include private balconies and views of Bayahibe Beach and the ocean.

Rooms and suites all feature a private outdoor space as well as a complimentary minibar that's restocked daily. You can pay up for added perks like swim-out rooms or ocean-view suites. Premium rooms include added benefits like a VIP pool, private beach and early check-in.

Dining ranges from Italian at Azzurri to flip flops and fabulous at the Coral Reef beach bar. Be sure to fuel up, as you'll need the energy for some of Hilton La Romana's activities like windsurfing, snorkeling, catamaran sailing and dance lessons to name a few. Of course, you can also try your hand at lady luck at the resort's on-site casino — you might just win enough to book your next all-inclusive getaway.

Rates start at $385 or 88,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Marriott's first all-inclusive resort to fall under The Luxury Collection branding is a luxe affair for those who want a chic spin on an all-inclusive getaway. The decadent resort sits on a cliff with stunning views of the ocean.

Swanky accommodations range from ocean-view junior suites to a two-bedroom Castle Island suite with a private pool, oceanfront deck and ample living area for lounging with a book or glass of wine.

Related: What it's like staying at the all-inclusive Sanctuary Cap Cana resort

You'll need a longer trip to make a dent in Sanctuary Cap Cana's endless dining options: The resort boasts 13 different restaurants and bars for guests to pick from. (We're partial to the teppanyaki at Wok, where you'll get your own private chef for the night in this moat-surrounding restaurant.)

Plus, you'll stay busy from check-in to checkout with activities like trying your hardest for a hole-in-one on the Jack Nicklaus golf course, singing the night away at the Love Bar piano bar or just splashing in the sun at one of Sanctuary Cap Cana's six pools.

Rates for Sanctuary Cap Cana start from $456 or 120,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, based on double occupancy.

Old Hollywood is the vibe at Casa de Campo, a historic resort that has drawn celebrities to the Dominican Republic for decades. Even Frank Sinatra flew his private jet onto the landing strip of this storied resort that features a mix of rooms, suites and private villas.

Casa de Campo isn't as high society today as it was in its beginnings, but it's still a decadent way to enjoy the Dominican Republic's quieter southern coast. While we respect and love you for your affinity for cardio, you'll likely need to utilize the resort's golf carts to see the entirety of this 7,000-acre property. Accommodations range from guest rooms to private villas. We're particularly fond of the oceanfront villas, which include breakfast prepared in your villa along with dedicated butler service to help pack and unpack.

All-inclusive packages at Casa de Campo include unlimited horseback riding, tennis and non-motorized water sports. You can also take part in skeet or trap shooting and a kids club. Dining includes the more casual Chilango Taqueria and romantic, French-inspired La Caña (bouillabaisse tastes all the more fresh with the Caribbean Sea so near).

All-inclusive rates start at $325 per night, based on double occupancy.

Amenities abound at this 750-suite all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana. Breathless, Hyatt's popular adults-only luxury all-inclusive imprint, wows at its Dominican Republic location with a variety of restaurants, entertainment and activities.

Accommodations include private balconies or terraces with large whirlpools. Those who splurge for an Xhale Club-level suite have access to more personalized butler service and access to VIP areas on the property.

Guests have 10 restaurants to choose from, including gourmet French cuisine at Coquette or Mediterranean at Kibbeh. Of course, we're fans of making friends amid the splashy revelry of Deep, Breathless Punta Cana's swim-up bar.

Major fun is to be had when you check into Breathless. Blacklight pool parties and Gatsby parties are just some of the variety of celebrations to be had during a stay. There are four pools — including two reserved for Xhale Club guests — and a variety of activities, from windsurfing to horseback riding. Don't forget to save time to pamper yourself at the Spa by Pevonia, which offers treatments like chocolate mint exfoliation and aromatherapy massage at an extra fee.

Rates start at $460 or 17,000 World of Hyatt points per night, based on double occupancy.

Wyndham's fairly recent push into all-inclusive resorts offers an affordable way to enjoy some fun along the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham includes four pools, six restaurants and plenty of activities for guests of all ages.

Guest room and suite options range from spacious garden-view rooms with private balconies all the way up to ocean-view bungalows with thatched roofs and a private terrace.

Dining options at the property include Viva Mexico, a vibrant spot for alfresco guacamole and tacos, while La Roca Grill is a higher-end option for grilled fish amid romantic beachfront views. La Terraza is an all-day buffet offering everything from omelets in the morning to Italian at dinner. Between meals, hang out at the pool, swing from the seaside trapeze or indulge in a deep-tissue massage next door at the Viva Dominicus Beach's sister property, Viva Dominicus Palace.

Rates start at $271 or 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night.

Families looking for an affordable all-inclusive getaway to Punta Cana should look no further than Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites. The IHG-affiliated all-inclusive resort is located on a picturesque stretch of Playa Bavaro's beachfront and offers a wide array of family fun, spacious accommodations and delicious dining.

The town center-style layout of the resort sets the stage for an abundance of amenities, like Iberostar's three-story fitness center, 12 restaurants (we're partial to sushi at Kabuki Japanese Restaurant and the New York strip at Brave Steakhouse), a kids camp and golf course. Scuba diving and exploring the resort's coral nursery is a one-of-a-kind Iberostar experience for those looking to do more than "just" enjoy the crashing waves.

Space abounds in the guest suites (all of which include private balconies or terraces), but we're particularly keen on the junior suites closer to the pool or with oceanfront views. Families should consider larger two-bedroom suites while couples might want to indulge in the ultimate wow factor: the penthouse suite with a king-size bed and oceanfront view (complete with a welcome massage to really help unwind from real life to vacation life).

Or, for an upgraded experience at the resort, consider booking the Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Bavaro .

Rates start at $372 per night.

  • # 9 in Best Cheap Honeymoon Destinations for 2024

The sugary sand of a Punta Cana beach is so soft, so perfectly golden that you might think it was synthetic. And in fact, in this easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, it's possible. By definition, Punta Cana is a manufactured Caribbean getaway, completely catering to the needs of sun-seeking vacationers who enjoy  all-inclusive resorts , but care little about venturing away from their hotel – even though there are plenty of hidden gems and adventures waiting for them. Crystalline sands, glittering clear waters, and happy-go-lucky fun in the sun — this is what a vacation in the gorgeous country of the Dominican Republic is all about. While there’s plenty of culture to experience and exploring to do in the country’s capital, Santo Domingo, tourists tend to flock to the island for its broad array of all-inclusive resorts in popular coastal destinations like Punta Cana. After all, what’s easier than lounging on the beach or at the pool, complete with food and cocktails at your fingertips?

Thanks to a number of adults-only all-inclusive resorts , all-inclusive hotels geared towards families, and luxury all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic, you can find a property that’s ideal for your travel style and budget.

From the sparkling sands and calm waters of Punta Cana to the golf courses and surf-friendly waves of Puerto Plata (and everything in between), here are our top picks for the best all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic.

Take note of the season when booking an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. While the country’s weather is warm year-round, you may not want to risk visiting in the rainy season (from May to November). Still, you may find a great deal during low season and prefer to give it a shot. Just make sure to book refundable or changeable room rates in case of hurricanes.

The 5 Best All-inclusive Resorts in the Dominican Republic for Adults-only

When it comes to adult vacation time, these are the top all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic for couples, singles, or groups of friends.

Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana PRINT

For an exclusive, adults-only all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic, the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana takes the cake. Located in the high-end Cap Cana area on Jumillo Beach (worlds away from the busy Bavaro area), this resort is perfect for honeymooners , babymooners, or anyone that simply wants an adult-centered escape.

Close to the Punta Cana (PUJ) airport as well as nearby golf courses, the property features several expansive infinity pools with swim-up bars , dual-temperature hot tubs, and poolside cabanas.

The 375 guest rooms offer amenities like terraces, fully-stocked minibars , and ocean views, but for the ultimate luxury, consider a swim-up suite where you can exit your room and dive directly into a semi-private pool. A few of the higher-level suites even feature a Jacuzzi on the balcony.

With 25 different on-site restaurants and bars to choose from, guests won’t have to worry about the all-inclusive food options getting repetitive. And all of the hotel’s entertainment is geared towards adults — think daily aqua cycling classes and live music.

For those that want to make their vacation wellness-centered, the hotel has a 14,000-square-foot fitness center that includes cardio and weight options, Zumba, spinning, TRX training, and pilates. It’s also home to the 26,000 square-foot Larimar Spa , a cenote-style cave home to a lagoon, waterfall, Himalayan salt lounge, and signature treatments like volcanic clay facials and coconut body wraps.

Room rates start at $485 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Sanctuary Cap Cana Guestroom

This 324-room resort is brand new , located in a fancy, gated community in the exclusive Cap Cana area. The Sanctuary Cap Cana is a Marriott all-inclusive, all-suite resort with contemporary, coastal chic accommodations. Each suite is luminous and charming, designed to match the Spanish colonial design theme of the resort ( yes, there’s an actual castle! ), and features amenities like furnished outdoor space and jetted tubs, complete with garden or ocean views. Some suites are swim-up, and others feature multiple bedrooms.

As with most adults-only all-inclusive resorts, Sanctuary focuses on adult activities, such as the Sanctuary Spa, a charming garden hub with relaxing cabanas, a spa pool, and signature treatments. The resort offers 11 different dining options , including a steakhouse, snack grill, and an oceanfront seafood shack set on stilts perched over the water.

While the hotel is located near a golf course, and there are those typical fun-in-the-sun beachy activities available, like volleyball or jet skiing, the best thing to do at this hotel is lounge poolside or beachfront in a cabana, roam the palm-lined, charming hotel grounds, or enjoy lazy days filled with sun from your suite’s balcony.

Room rates for 1 suite with 2 adults start at around $470 or 100,000+ Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Melia Punta Cana

This wellness-inspired resort is located on Punta Cana’s Bavaro Beach and focuses on being a sanctuary — it’s home to several different wellness zones to encourage deep rest and rejuvenation for guests . One of these spaces is the serene lobby which will instantly put you in vacation mode and is set amid lush tropical gardens.

Meanwhile, the fitness center, complete with activities like yoga, drumming, Zumba, boxing, and more, inspires guests to focus on themselves. The YHI Spa, decked out in luminous white and wood furnishings with wicker details, gives off peaceful vibes and offers treatments like Dominican Cacao Therapy and dedicated bridal services. The property offers special fitness and wellness programs like the Healthy Traveler Experience , which includes vegan and vegetarian cuisine and detox cocktails.

The guest rooms at the Meliá Punta Cana Beach offer sea or garden views, complete with outdoor spaces, sofas, coffee machines, stocked minibars, and complimentary bicycle use. There are only a few restaurants, but the cuisine is carefully curated to meet guests’ needs, from juice bars to Vietnamese delights to outdoor, oceanfront dining.

Room rates start around $200 per night.

When booking an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic, it’s best to use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees and one that offers additional points for booking hotels. A great option is the Chase Sapphire Reserve ® , where you’ll earn 3x points on travel purchases. Even better, Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Hyatt, so you may be able to use some of those points to stay for free at some of the all-inclusive properties on this list that are in the Hyatt portfolio.

Hilton La Romana Adults Only Spa Pool 1

The Hilton La Romana, an All-Inclusive Adult Only Resort is 20 minutes away from the La Romana Airport (LRM) or less than a 2-hour drive from Santo Domingo and is an ideal all-inclusive resort for couples or singles. It’s also perfect for anyone looking for an all-inclusive hotel with a casino .

Besides gambling the night away at the casino, adults over age 18 can lounge at the property’s infinity pools, admire palm trees swaying in the wind at the hotel’s private beach, and book snorkeling and diving adventures in the on-site dive center.

The accommodations feature balconies and fully-stocked minibars, and some rooms are swim-up or feature hydrotubs . Those that don’t want to worry about restaurant reservations won’t have to at this hotel — you can simply walk into the property’s 5 different restaurants to eat whenever you feel like it.

The hotel also has nightly entertainment, waiters at both the pool and beach, and a spa set amid greenery and floral gardens for the utmost tranquility. Try unique treatments like the cinnamon vanilla body polish or the superfruit facial, or relax in the hydrotherapy area.

Room rates start at $340 or 75,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Wyndham V Samana

Adults that prefer to skip the really touristy resorts of Punta Cana and Puerto Plata should head to Las Terrenas along the country’s northern coast.

The Viva Wyndham V Samana sits on the blissful sands of Coson Beach and offers free bicycles for guests to get out and explore the area . Nearby, there’s plenty to do for outdoor enthusiasts, like hiking, kayaking, and more. Back at the resort, you can relax at the pool or take a pilates or yoga class.

Basic rooms offer garden views, stocked minifridges, and WynRest linens and blankets, but upgraded rooms may be worth the additional rate , as they feature espresso machines and private plunge pools. But having your own pool may not be necessary, as the main pool is just as gorgeous, lined with flowers and palm trees overlooking the sea.

There are 6 different bars and restaurants that offer an eclectic mix of both indoor and outdoor dining, cocktails, and snacks.

Room rates start at $250 or 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night.

The Best All-inclusive Resort in the Dominican Republic Ideal for Couples or Singles

Some all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic aren’t adults only, but adult-centric. These are best for couples, singles, and friends.

Zoetry Punta Cana

While the Zoëtry Agua Punta Cana isn’t strictly adults-only, it’s adults-oriented, so it may be better for couples, singles, honeymooners, or adult friend groups looking for a boutique all-inclusive experience on the serene Uvero Alto Beach.

You may be wondering: What is a boutique all-inclusive experience, anyway? It’s similar to a regular all-inclusive, but it’s smaller, more focused, and more curated to ensure you have a stay where everything is included, but attention to detail is top-notch. Every single aspect of the hotel is thoughtful, from the Bvlgari amenities to the welcome beach bag and the daily tea time .

With just 96 rooms inspired by the local surroundings (think teak wood and thatched roofs), expect amenities like soaking tubs and outdoor space. Upgraded rooms may be swim-up, oceanfront, or feature private pools or cabanas.

Reservation-free meals can be enjoyed at 4 different restaurants and a few bars (including a swim-up bar), plus you have access to 24-hour room service. The Zoëtry Spa has Finnish and steam saunas, sensation showers, an indoor pool, and Inox bubble beds. Its luxury body and facial treatments use Natura Bissé products. You can even book a private helicopter transfer to arrive at the resort!

Room rates start at $450 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Learn how to earn lots of World of Hyatt points in our detailed guide.

The 4 Best All-inclusive Resorts in the Dominican Republic for Families

For those bringing the little ones along, many all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic offer specific amenities for families and kids, like kiddie pools and even water parks.

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana PRINT

Families that want a luxury, yet still family-friendly, experience should head to the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana , which is the sister resort of the adults-only Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana. Note that while the Hyatt Ziva has plenty to do for kids, adults can find lots of activities, too. Both adults and children will enjoy the lazy river at the on-site water park, complete with slides and water cannons . Kids and teens can head to the kids’ club (it even includes an indoor treehouse!) and teen lounge, which offer age-appropriate activities and facilities, including an air hockey table, pool table, and video games.

Jumillo Beach is ideal for families, too, with long stretches of white sand perfect for relaxing or playing and waters that are shallow and swimmable. Families can also participate in non-motorized water sports — including kayaks, sailboats, and paddleboards — free of charge.

Adults can access the aforementioned Larimar Spa and fitness center (also part of the Hyatt Zilara), but most of the live entertainment is family-friendly. When it comes to dining, the resort features 10 restaurants and bars. These include a kid-friendly buffet , a coffee shop, an Asian restaurant, and an Italian trattoria.

The 375-room, all-suite property features large, airy suites with pops of color the kids will love. All suites feature furnished balconies, while some of the fancier suites are swim-up (to a semi-private pool) or offer additional outdoor space.

Room rates start at around $500 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Hilton La Romana Family

The sister resort to the Hilton La Romana, an All-Inclusive Adult Only Resort, this family-friendly all-inclusive resort is located close to the Parque Nacional Cotubanamá for families that want to explore or when the kids get bored of the beach and swimming pool. Though they might not, because this all-inclusive resort has a water park and dive center , so you can all cruise down the lazy river or book a snorkeling adventure.

Similar to the adults-only resort, the guest rooms at the Hilton La Romana, an All-Inclusive Family Resort come with outdoor space and fully-stocked minibars, and you can always upgrade to a swim-up room . But this resort also has kids’ and teen clubs for those that want additional activities available for the little ones. It also has 14 different bars and restaurants and offers live entertainment appropriate for all ages.

There are a ton of easy ways to earn Hilton points , from credit cards to dining out , so your next Hilton award booking may come sooner than expected.

Dreams Flora

With 5 different Dreams resorts located around the Dominican Republic, it can be tough to select the best one for you. But the Dreams Flora Resort & Spa  is the nation’s newest addition , a 520-room resort that opened in December 2022 along Cabeza de Toro beach — and we’re suckers for a brand new hotel, especially when its home to 13 different bars and restaurants .

This particular resort is part of the Inclusive Collection, part of the Hyatt umbrella, along with other all-inclusive brands like Zoetry, Ziva, Zilara, and Secrets. So, why should you pick Dreams Flora?

To start, it’s family-friendly, but if you’re traveling kid-free, don’t worry. The hotel features 4 different pools, including a kids’ pool, an adults-only pool, an on-site water park, and a lazy river . However, those taking the whole family along have options. Parents can have some downtime at the Dreams Spa by Pevonia, while kids head to the Explorer’s Kids Club. Even teens have options at the Core Zone Teens Club (ages 13 to 17) for supervised fun, including beach movies, video games, and more.

When it comes to dining, you can eat à la carte at several of the hotel’s restaurants (which feature all sorts of cuisine, including international options such as Italian or Mexican), poolside, or from the comfort of your own room with 24-hour room service. And yes, all-inclusive means access to top-shelf spirits , so you can have your piña colada(s) without the cheap liquor hangover.

And if you do need to nurse that hangover, the aforementioned Dreams Spa has it all, from treatments like seaweed facials and water lily body wraps to a hydrotherapy circuit, Swedish sauna, steam room, Vichy cabin, full-service hair and nail salon, and a special bridal suite.

Room rates start at about $225 per night but can be double that in peak season. Points rates start at 17,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Iberostar Costa Dorada

What kid (or adult) wouldn’t want to stay at a resort that claims it was once home to the legendary pirates of the Caribbean ? The Iberostar Costa Dorada is an all-inclusive property located a short drive away from downtown Puerto Plata. Home to 3 pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, a PADI-certified dive center, and even archery targets, the hotel prides itself on having facilities and activities for the whole family. And for sustainable travelers, the hotel is completely free of single-use plastic.

The Dominican Republic has long been a destination for all-inclusive resorts. Travelers seeking budget-friendly accommodations, secluded luxury, and energetic parties can easily find their fair share of hotel options in this Caribbean country. At family-friendly resorts , children can slide on waterslides or enjoy a robust kids' club program. Beach aficionados can retreat under a palapa on a palm-fringed beach as the cerulean waves from the Caribbean sea put on a show—best enjoyed with a rum cocktail, of course. No matter the type of all-inclusive experience you’re looking to have in the Dominican Republic, this list should help you get started.

Where should I stay in the Dominican Republic?

Often considered the birthplace of the island’s tourism, northern-most Puerto Plata is brimming with all-inclusive resorts that appeal to honeymooners , families and solo travelers . Nestled between the Caribbean and Atlantic ocean on the easternmost tip of the island, Punta Cana draws visitors to its white sand shores, while La Romana in the south offers a smaller but still impressive number of all-inclusive resorts to choose from.

What is the cheapest time to go to the Dominican Republic?

The cheapest time to go to the Dominican Republic is during the off-season months of April–November. Prices typically increase incredibly during spring break and the holiday season.

Is it worth it to pay for all-inclusives?

Many major hotel brands have recently invested in providing more than just the one stop shop experience all-inclusive resorts are known for to ensure travelers still feel a personalized and memorable experience. This includes fine dining options and resort activities that are typically more expensive off-property. If you’d like to spend most of your time at a resort, an all-inclusive experience is likely your best bet.

travel to dominican republic all inclusive

When you think of the Dominican Republic, what is the first thing that springs to mind? Beaches and all-inclusive resorts are probably top on the list. While the Dominican Republic boasts some beautiful beaches and a diverse range of resorts, the country also offers several other characteristics that make it a must-see destination.

A lot of the things on this list are about stepping out of the resort and exploring the country. Sure, resorts are a great place to unwind and indulge in rum cocktails and cabanas but aren’t you curious about what’s around the corner or over the hill. Hopefully, this list will aid you in your exploration of the Dominican Republic and the addition of items to your must-see list.

Visit the magnificent 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua:

Waterfalls of Damajagua

The magnificent 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua is only a short drive from Puerto Plata. Wading through clear lakes, swimming through small valleys, hiking through forest, and climbing rocks, ropes, and ladders through the thundering falls themselves are all part of the experience. Visitors climb to the top of the falls and then slide and leap back down.

Beaches

Yes, the beaches must be highlighted, and rightfully so; they are breathtaking! On its north, east, and southern borders, the Dominican Republic offers approximately 1000 miles of coastline, with a third of it beckoning soft white sand. The beaches in the Dominican Republic are wonderful locations to unwind, sip a refreshing rum cocktail, and splash around in the crystal blue sea.

Santa Domingo

Santa Domingo

Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic’s capital, is the Americas’ oldest new-world metropolis. The Zona Colonial was founded in 1594 and has a nearly 500-year history. Santo Domingo is a vibrant city with a diverse range of bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels.

Punta Cana

one of the most popular and stunning places to see in the Dominican Republic

Punta Cana,  the Dominican Republic’s  point of interest. In easternmost province, is famed for its beaches that front both the Atlantic and the Caribbean. In a really charming environment, the region is filled with fancy hotels and excellent golf courses. There are several all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana, as well as a variety of water sports in Dominican Republic ranging from coral diving to catamaran sailing. Why not just relax on the sands of one of the world’s top beaches with temps ranging from the late 20s to early 30s? A post on the greatest things to do in Punta Cana is also available.

Resorts

The Dominican Republic is perhaps the leader in all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. There are almost two dozen all-inclusive resorts ranging in price from affordable to luxury. These resorts (many of which are in the Punta Cana area) are set in stunning sites and provide world-class amenities such as golf, spas, weddings, and every form of water activity you can think of.

Culinary Experience

Culinary Experience

The Dominican culinary scene is dominated by Creole cuisine, which is rich and savory. Rice, pork, beans, fresh vegetables, and seafood are mainstays; however, they vary by region. Spanish, African, and Taino cuisines all influenced the food.

Mangu (boiled, mashed plantain with onion, cheeses, scrambled egg, and salami), casaba (yucca cake), and La Bandera (meat, rice, and red beans) are all must-try dishes. Traditionally, this meal is served with fried plantain.

10 Best All-inclusive Resorts for Families in the Caribbean

The best all-inclusive family resorts include kid-centric programming, dedicated family pools, and water parks.

travel to dominican republic all inclusive

The Caribbean is a popular family vacation destination because of its year-round warm, sunny weather, white-sand beaches, breathtakingly clear waters, and easy access from the East Coast. What really makes the difference for many families, though, is this idyllic region's abundance of incredible all-inclusive resorts.

These resorts offer everything families need for a perfect vacation in one convenient package — accommodations, meals, drinks, and activities. The Caribbean's best all-inclusive resorts for families also make space for child-centric programming like kids clubs, dedicated family pools, and even on-site water parks.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean to book for your next warm-weather getaway with kids — including a private island oasis in Antigua and a sprawling resort on the Turks and Caicos archipelago.

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive

Divi & Tamarijn

Also available to book at Expedia.com and Hotels.com

Located along a serene stretch of Eagle Beach, Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive boasts a prime oceanfront location plus an abundance of kid-friendly activities and amenities, like a state-of-the-art kids club and biking, snorkeling, and pickleball.

The kids club is only open on weekdays.

Families can soak up the sun at Tamarijn Aruba, which happens to be on Travel + Leisure ’s list of the best all-inclusives in Aruba . Kids ages 4-12 can stay, play, and eat free at the Sea Turtles Club, where they'll enjoy crafting, face painting, movie screenings, bingo, kite-making, and tie-dye.

Meanwhile, adults can post up on the beach or at one of the four pools — or indulge in a spa treatment — before regrouping for family-friendly fun like biking, snorkeling, pickleball, tennis, and basketball. A stay here also grants you access to over 15 restaurants and bars (including options at sister property Divi Aruba), meaning picky eaters of all ages have plenty of choices.

"I stayed at The Tamarijn with friends, and there was nothing like starting and ending the day on the balcony, listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore directly in front of our room," said T+L contributor Jacquline Dole .

The Details:

  • Inclusions: All food and drink, activities, and gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 4-12
  • Location: Oranjestad, Aruba
  • Rates: Start at $845 per night based on two adults

Beaches Turks and Caicos

Beaches Turks & Caicos

Also available to book at Expedia.com

This all-inclusive has everything you could ever want or need for a fun-filled family vacation: 20-plus restaurants, dozens of complimentary activities, a massive water park, and complimentary kids club programming for children ages 0-17.

Since the resort is pretty crowded, you must wake up early to secure beach chairs for the whole family.

Beaches Turks and Caicos offers a 45,000-square-foot water park, 21 restaurants, 10 sparkling swimming pools, and miles of sugar-sand beaches. Little ones can mix and mingle with their favorite Sesame Street characters while adolescents can hit up the Xbox Play Lounge or teen disco. The kids camp offers specialized, complimentary facilities for children of all ages, including an Infant Program (ages 0-2), a Toddler Program (ages 3-4), a Navigators Program (ages 5-7), the Adventurers Program (ages 8-10), a Tweens Program (ages 11-14), and Teen Program (ages 15-17). Beaches is also a Certified Autism Center with specially trained staff to support children with specialized needs.

The 758-room property is divided into five villages, which makes its sprawling size feel a little less overwhelming. While you can’t go wrong with any of the room categories, larger families will appreciate the ultra-luxe three- and four-bedroom villas, which include private butler service.

"I was genuinely floored by how many places there are to eat — the food options can satisfy picky eaters and those looking for fine-dining options," said Anna Popp , associate commerce editor at T+L.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited drinking and dining, gratuities, unlimited land sports, non-motorized water sports, scuba diving, water park access
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 0-17
  • Location: Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
  • Rates: Start at $424 per adult per night and $38 per child per night

Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection

Royalton Negril

Set on a secluded stretch of sand, Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection offers spacious all-suite accommodations and active pursuits like non-motorized water sports and tennis.

Spa access isn't included.

All ages will enjoy a stay at the sun-soaked Royalton Negril, Autograph Collection — take it from me. Even though my family stayed at the attached adults-only sister property, the Hideaway at Royalton Negril, we shared many amenities, including activities, bars, and restaurants.

Dining highlights include the excellent buffet with a separate kids section for comfort classics like chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, a coffee and gelato shop that serves up refreshing sweet treats, and a lively hibachi eatery where singing and dancing are very encouraged.

While you sip tropical cocktails at the swim-up bar or enjoy the spa, children ages 4-12 can play at the kids club, and adolescents can play video games, ping pong, and tennis at the teen club. The beach area on the family-friendly side is expansive and hosts non-motorized water sports like Hobie Cats and paddle boards.

At the end of an action-packed day, retreat to your luxury suite. The family suites are especially popular because they have privacy doors between the sofa area and the main room, and the bathrooms have Jacuzzis for an extra-luxe touch. I recommend splurging on The Diamond Club, which includes butler service. Helpful staff members are on hand to reserve beach chairs, deliver food and drinks, and arrange dinner reservations — which comes in handy in the peak season around the holidays when groups trying to secure large tables line up at the restaurants.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited dining and drinking, daily entertainment and nightly shows, water sports, splash pad
  • Location: Negril, Jamaica
  • Rates: Start at $330 per night per adult and $440 per night for one adult and one child

Grand Palladium Jamaica

Taylor McIntyre / Travel + Leisure

This newly renovated hotel stands out for its sleek rooms and suites, ample activities and amenities, 20-plus drinking and dining venues, and sparkling swimming pools, including Jamaica’s largest.

The property’s large size means lots of walking.

Fresh off a multimillion-dollar renovation, Grand Palladium Jamaica in Montego Bay will delight you with five pools, 23 drinking and dining venues, and a seemingly endless amount of complimentary activities and entertainment offerings such as live reggae bands, kids Olympics, non-motorized water sports, and mini golf.

The main pool — said to be the largest in Jamaica — is a stunning infinity pool, and the children's pool includes a water park. The property also has a Baby Club for kids 1-3 years old, a Mini Club for children ages 4-12, and the Black & White Junior Club for tweens and teens. We'd be remiss not to mention the newly refreshed rooms and suites, each featuring contemporary decor and furnishings, private terraces, and hydromassage bathtubs.

"I visited the Grand Palladium Jamaica in September 2023 after it underwent a $27.5 million renovation. The resort sticks to its name by being truly grand... [It] strikes a nice balance of lively party and serenity, allowing guests to really make their own adventure," said T+L senior visual editor Taylor McIntyre .

  • Inclusions: Drinking and dining, daytime and evening entertainment, kids activities, non-motorized water sports, gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 1-17
  • Location: Montego Bay, Jamaica

Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa

Also available to book at Booking.com

This all-inclusive resort is ideal for adventure-seeking families and boasts a mile-long beach, a sprawling paintball course, and St. Lucia’s largest water park.

The water can be a bit choppy since the property is located on the Atlantic side of St. Lucia.

At Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa, three of the five pools are designed for families: the zero-entry Splash Pool with its sloping entrance, the Activity Pool, where you and your fam can play volleyball, and the Splash Plunge Pool. The property is also home to the island’s largest water park — CocoLand, which boasts slides and a lazy river.

It gets better: The resort is home to a 30,000-square-foot paintball course. There are also eight restaurants, seven bars, and a mile-long white-sand beach where you can play volleyball, throw horseshoes, go kitesurfing, and partake in action-packed water sports. Other activities and entertainment offerings include reggae lessons, themed beach parties, karaoke, tennis, and basketball. Caretakers may also send little ones ages 3-12 to the CocoLand Kidz Klub.

Splash, the family-friendly accommodations wing, offers spacious rooms and suites with private patios and separate seating areas, including connecting units for larger groups.

  • Inclusions: Unlimited drinking and dining, water park, daytime and nighttime entertainment, gratuities

Club Med Punta Cana

With unlimited land and water sports like sailing and trapeze, Club Med Punta Cana appeals to active families.

There are only three restaurants.

Club Med Punta Cana spans 100 oceanfront acres and is Club Med’s flagship family-friendly property. Trust me: There’s something for everyone here. The value-packed amenities, like complimentary sailing lessons and a state-of-the-art circus and trapeze facility, blew me away. These are just a few of the over 30 activities included in your stay, including archery, pickleball, snorkeling, kayaking, and tennis and dance lessons.

I admit I didn’t travel here with children, but I was impressed with the kid- and family-friendly programming, including exclusive spaces like a dedicated pool. Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med are available for kids 0-2 and 2-3, respectively. Mini Club Med, suited for ages 4-10, offers activities like sailing and archery lessons. There’s also Teen Club Med (ages 11-13) and Chill Pass Club Med (ages 14-17). If you're traveling with a big crew, stay in one of the newly renovated, tropical-inspired two-bedroom family suites.

  • Inclusions: All drinking and dining, unlimited land and water sports, gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free for children ages 4-17; club for ages 0-4 is an additional cost
  • Location: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Rates: Start at $170 per person per night

Curtain Bluff

Also available to book at Hotels.com and Tripadvisor.com

This serene 72-room resort is unique because it offers both non-motorized and motorized water sports at no additional cost. Plus, it has not one but two private beaches.

There are no performances or lively nightlife activities besides live music during dinner.

The World’s Best Award-winning Curtain Bluff in Antigua is unique because it offers an intimate and refined feel — which is rare for an inclusive property. Although the property has just 72 rooms and suites, families have plenty of room to roam out on the sand on the two private beaches. Cee Bee Kids Camp is great for kids ages 3-10 who like to craft, sail, and snorkel.

“What I love about Curtain Bluff is that when they say all-inclusive, they mean all-inclusive — even the water sports!” says Vazquez. She continues, “You can go and read a book on the beach while your kids are learning how to sail at no additional cost.”

  • Inclusions: All meals and drinks, water sports, land activities
  • Kids Club:  Free, available for children ages 3-10
  • Location: Old Road, Antigua
  • Rates: Start at $1,050

Jumby Bay feels like your very own private oasis — and that’s because it is.

It’s definitely a splurge — rates start at over $2,000 per night.

Serenity-seeking families need not look further than this pristine private island resort in Antigua, accessible only via boat. A World’s Best Award winner , Jumby Bay spans 300 acres, “giving kids lots of space to explore safely and families plenty of room to run, bike, and play without worries of disturbing couples,” Vazquez says. You and your family can wakeboard, sail Hobie Cats, or go snorkeling, and the Camp Jumby Pavilion offers kid-friendly fun and games, including relay races, water sports, bake-offs, and musical instrument lessons.

Feel to bring the whole family — aunts, uncles, and cousins included. “The accommodations range from rooms and suites to huge estates, so whether it's a smaller family in need of a room plus a rollaway, a multi-gen looking for the flexibility of space, or a group who loves the privacy of a villa but the services of a hotel, you're covered,” Vazquez says.

  • Inclusions: All-day dining, drinks, water sports, land activities, gratuities
  • Kids Club: Free, available for children ages 3-11
  • Location: Jumby Bay, Antigua
  • Rates: Start at $2,300

Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels

Turtle Beach

Located on a prime stretch of sand in Christ Church, this all-inclusive includes an impressive kids club, non-motorized water sports, and dance lessons to keep families entertained for hours.

The property doesn't offer multi-bedroom suites.

On the southern shore of Barbados, this all-inclusive Marriott resort is among the island’s best. While some families are happy to lounge poolside or on the beach all day, others may prefer more action. This property has you covered. Think cricket, crafting, dance lessons, tennis, and non-motorized water sports. Little ones can splash around in the dedicated children's pool, and the beloved Fly Fishing Club offers a variety of activities for kids 4-12 years old. Other highlights include five dining venues and spacious all-suite accommodations with breezy island-inspired decor and private balconies or terraces.

  • Inclusions: Dining, non-motorized water sports, land sports, gratuities
  • Location: Christ Church, Barbados
  • Rates: Start at $257

Know Before You Go

Understand the different pricing structures..

“While some all-inclusives can be a great deal, they don’t all equate to a less-expensive trip,” says Vazquez. “For instance, when booking online, all-inclusives are priced based on occupancy, so if you’re booking a room for two but you’re a family of four, the room price will change.”

Additionally, it's worth noting that some properties allow kids below a certain age to stay for free, while others will charge a fee. It’s critical to have a set budget ahead of time to ensure you’re picking a property that best aligns with what you’d like to spend.

Read the fine print.

Put simply: “‘All-inclusive’ does not mean the same thing everywhere,” Vazquez explains. For example, “Some properties might exclude water sports or certain beverage options, so be sure to read the fine print!”

Before booking a resort, identify what you want in an all-inclusive. Do you want complimentary motorized water sports? Gratuities? Premium alcoholic beverages? Ensure the property meets your specific needs and expectations.

Check for seasonal amenities.

Some activities, amenities, and facilities may only be available for part of the year. For example, the Surf Shack at St. Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort, which offers kitesurfing, wing foiling, and gear rentals, is open from November to June. And at Curtain Bluff, the Cee Bee Kids Camp is open six days per week over peak holidays — and only five days per week most other times of the year.

How We Chose These Hotels

Travel writer Lauren Dana Ellman poured through user reviews, ratings, and T+L editor picks — including World’s Best Award winners — to narrow down the top all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean for families. She also tapped Henley Vazquez, a T+L A-list travel advisor with extensive experience planning family travel in the Caribbean. Additionally, Lauren has personally visited over a dozen all-inclusive resorts — many in the Caribbean — with her family and relied on her travels and experiences to complete the list. I n recent years, I’ve come to believe that all-inclusive family vacations are the ultimate way to relax. With all your food and activity costs paid upfront, you’re free to indulge in unlimited food and drink while lounging by the pool or beach. For families in particular, all-inclusive resorts are the best way to ensure that everyone in your crew has a great family vacation . And all-inclusive resorts with a lazy river can up the fun and relaxation level even more.

There’s no better way to truly kick back and relax than floating down a lazy river in the tropics. The best all-inclusive resorts with a lazy river have elaborate waterways that range from lazy to crazy. So, grab a tube (and a margarita) and find the resort with a lazy river that’s right for your family.

BEST TRIP EVER: These 10 Caribbean beach resorts are the best for families

1. Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa, an All-Inclusive Resort

Montego bay, jamaica.

What better way to kick back and relax than by floating on a lazy river surrounded by palm trees? Hilton Rose Hall , tucked between the mountains and the sea in Montego Bay, is a family-friendly beachfront Jamaican resort. It has tropical features throughout, including along the meandering lazy river where you’ll float by lagoons and waterfalls.

2. Beaches Turks and Caicos

Providenciales, turks and caicos .

If you can manage to pull yourself away from the crystal-clear blue waters surrounding Beaches Turks and Caicos , floating along the resort’s lazy river is a great way to relax in paradise. At 650 feet long, the undulating lazy river feels substantial on its own, but it’s also just one component of the family-friendly Pirates Island water park .

RESORT REVIEWS:   Every Beaches resort, ranked: Which ones are worth the money?

When you’re finally ready to hop out of the lazy river, you can check out the wave simulator, an excellent way for kids (and grown-ups) to try their hand at surfing without putting a toe in the ocean. I loved lounging on the lazy river while my more daring children went down the giant slides in the water park. Beaches Resorts also operates two all-inclusive resorts with a lazy river in Jamaica ( Beaches Ocho Rios and Beaches Negril ).

3. Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Rivera Maya

Playa del carmen, mexico.

With massive water parks, adrenaline-pumping water slides, and two epic lazy rivers, Nickelodeon Resorts appeal to kids of all ages from toddlers to teenagers. Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya ‘s two lazy rivers come in both slow and speedy varieties: The laidback ride is perfect for the smallest guests, while the faster one is a bit more adventurous with gentle waves that push you along.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY:   19 best family resorts and hotels in the U.S.

My family rode on both lazy rivers multiple times. My eight-year-old and tween preferred the lazy river with waves. It was fun to move a bit faster than a typical lazy river, but it was still calm enough to live up to the lazy river name. We saw plenty of toddlers having the time of their lives on the calmer version.

4. Hilton La Romana, an All-Inclusive Family Resort

La romana, dominican republic.

Surrounded by the lush jungle of the Dominican Republic yet with exclusive beach access to the Caribbean Sea, Hilton La Romana pretty much has it all—including four outdoor pools, a water park with tube slides, a toddler-friendly splash zone, and a winding lazy river. If you want to balance lounging on the lazy river with more adventurous water sports, activities like kayaking, snorkeling, and windsurfing are also included with your stay.

5. Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa

Vieux fort, st. lucia  .

Coconut Bay is home to CocoLand, the largest waterpark in St. Lucia. In addition to water slides and a splash park, CocoLand has a huge lazy river with meandering twists and turns that take you under cooling waterfalls.

FLORIDA FUN: 7 best all-inclusive resorts in Florida

The resort’s lazy river is a wonderful place to relax after zooming down Coconut Coaster, CocoLand’s fastest and most thrilling water slide. The all-inclusive resort has many other kid-friendly features, too, including an on-site petting zoo with local animals.

6. Delta Hotels Marriott Riviera Nayarit, An All-Inclusive Resort

Nayarit, mexico.

An oasis nestled deep in a forest canyon, Delta Hotels Mariott Riviera Nayarit was inspired by the nearby Tolantongo caves in the Mexican state of Hidalgo. But what makes it one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts with a laz river is that it uses the natural thermal waters inside the caves as inspiration for its Aqua and Jungle Adventure, the epicenter of the hotel.

NO HIDDEN FEES:  13 best all-inclusive family resorts for every age and interest

In addition to multiple pools and two kids areas with slides and splash pads, Delta Hotels by Riviera Nayarit features a long lazy river. Floating through the resort on the lazy river may be the best way to see the surrounding jungle. And when it comes to access to natural water, the Delta also has easy access to the beach.

7. Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

Punta cana, dominican republic.

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is a family-friendly Caribbean retreat located on the picturesque Juanillo Beach in Punta Cana. When you want to take a break from sun and surf, you can head directly to a laidback lazy river that winds through the resort’s Canapolis water park.

NO PASSPORT NEEDED:   21 best all-inclusive resorts in the U.S.

When it’s time to stop being so lazy, you can have fun with the water park’s Grotto Cascade, water cannons, and water slides. And for those who prefer taking a dip in the sea, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana has easy access to the Caribbean. As with most other all-inclusive resorts with a lazy river, all non-motorized water sports are included with every stay.

8. Royalton Bavaro, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort and Casino

Those who prefer their lazy rivers long and scenic will love the Royalton Bavaro ’s 1,200-foot lazy river that takes you through a cave, past relaxing waterfalls, and over hidden dips. 10. Moon Palace The Grand Cancun

Cancun, mexico.

Guests of Cancun’s Moon Palace The Grand have access to several pools, a skating rink, bikes, kayaks, tennis courts, and more. When it’s time to stop moving and relax, head to this all-inclusive family resort’s resort’s lazy river where you can kick back and enjoy the views. FOODIE FEASTS: It’s not just buffet lines at these 7 standout all-inclusive resorts with the best food

11. Atlantis Paradise Island

Paradise island, bahamas .

Okay, technically Atlantis isn’t all-inclusive, but it is a full-service Bahamas resort with a lot of extras bundled into the price, including access to one of the Caribbean’s best and biggest water parks. I had to include it as a bonus recommendation because it’s home to single the best lazy river in the Caribbean. This unique lazy river goes from a quiet ride to bumpy rapids and back again with some surprises thrown in.

AMAZING SAVINGS: Beaches and Sandals resorts are having a huge sale right now and we’ve got all the details

The lazy river at Atlantis is absolutely enormous and winds around the resort. It’s so big that you can hop on at one of the lazy river’s eight entrances or take a shortcut and ride one of the resort’s many water slides right into the rapids for a ride that goes on and on. If you really want an all-inclusive experience, keep your eye on the Atlantis website because it sometimes offers special deals on all-inclusive packages.

Privacy is paramount, and the guest residences are spread out across seven buildings. There is a beautiful pool for everyone to use, but spring for one of the 14 residences that come with individual pools, spa-like bathrooms and outdoor pavilions. The hotel works with guests to craft special experiences and will do everything from booking a snorkeling adventure at the Similan and Surin Islands' Marine National Parks to setting up a private candlelight dinner by a jungle waterfall.

The view from a junior suite at Cayo Levantado Resort in the Dominican Republic

The junior suites at Cayo Levantado Resort are spacious

You feel good staying at the new Cayo Levantado Resort , and not just because this is a luxurious, all-inclusive wellness retreat. Cayo Levantado is also an eco-friendly property that uses clean energy, produces its own drinking water, grows its own organic produce and gives guests the opportunity to help maintain coral nurseries and participate in reforestation efforts. The chic suites and villas are warm and inviting and the perfect place to unwind further after a day of rejuvenation.

The Burrard in Vancouver, British Columbia

A view of The Burrard hotel from its courtyard

The Burrard got its start in the 1950s as a motor inn

The Burrard is a mid-century gem in downtown Vancouver. This retro spot opened in 1956 as a motor inn and today offers modern amenities along with vintage charm. Guests choose from double, queen and king rooms, all with pillow-top mattresses and Nespresso machines, and can borrow one of the hotel's bikes or e-bikes to tool around town. In between games of ping pong in the courtyard or while headed to dinner on the patio at Burgoo, make sure to look around the hotel and check out the original murals and photographs on display by local artists.

Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa

The pool at Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town

Swimmers enjoying the pool at the Mount Nelson have a striking view of Table Mountain

The 125-year-old Mount Nelson Hotel is a pink palace, painted a rosy hue at the end of World War I to symbolize hope and joy. It still feels jubilant, with guests spending their days playing tennis, swimming in the heated pools and indulging in spa treatments. There are rooms and suites to meet all needs, including deluxe cottages with fireplaces, terraces and rose gardens. If you put one item on your to do list, make it this: Afternoon Tea in the lounge. With a menu crafted by Vicky Gurovich, the executive pastry chef, and Craig Cupido, South Africa's first expert tea sommelier, it is an unforgettable experience.

The Hotel Byblos has been a Saint-Tropez staple for more than five decades

Experience the good life at this legendary property by the sea. The colorful hotel opened in 1967 and over the years has welcomed the likes of Cher, Mick Jagger, Jack Nicholson and Brigitte Bardot. Fashion lovers often opt to book the Suite Missoni, featuring vibrant silk and cotton fabrics by the Italian luxury brand, and starting in May guests can also stay in one of the four new suites designed by Laura Gonzalez. Plan on spending some time at the recently renovated and expanded Byblos Spa by Sisley, and book an Epic Journey. Customized for each guest, the Epic Journeys are based on the elements and include yoga sessions, wellness classes, spa treatments and time in the hammam, sauna and sensory waterfall shower.

Hotel Magnolia in Santiago, Chile

A charming street in the Lastarria neighborhood of Santiago, Chile

The Lastarria neighborhood is known for its cool boutiques and restaurants

Housed inside a stately restored 1929 mansion, the charming Hotel Magnolia is in the heart of the historical Lastarria neighborhood, close to restaurants, boutiques and parks. The deluxe room with a balcony offers views of Santa Lucia Hill and the busy city streets, while the larger junior suite is covered in wood, from the walls to the floors. The menu is heavy on seafood and beef dishes like steer tartar, but there are several vegetarian and vegan options as well.
