Lightweight Frame

One of the best features of the Trek FX Sport 4 is its incredibly lightweight carbon fiber frame.

The design was crafted using Trek’s 400 series OCLV Carbon to give it strength without sacrificing agility.

Combined with streamlined internal cable routing, this frameset has been designed to reduce wind resistance when riding at higher speeds while still providing maximum rigidity and stability.

2023 Trek FX Sport 4 Review

Maneuverable Geometry

The Trek FX Sport 4 also boasts a geometry that is designed to provide riders with superior control and handling when attacking switchbacks or riding in tight spaces.

With its steep head tube angle, short wheelbase and relatively low center of gravity, this bike makes corners feel like flat trails even at fast speeds.

And thanks to shorter chainstays and wider tires for better traction on slippery surfaces, cyclists will feel secure when navigating technical sections of terrain as well.

2023 Trek FX Sport 4 Review

Powerful Shimano Components

At its core is a 1×10 Shimano Deore drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes offer smooth shifting with plenty of power when stopping on slick surfaces or descending quickly down hillsides.

The Prowheel alloy crankset features a moderately sized 42T narrow-wide chainring and is paired to a Shimano Deore M4100, 11-46, 10 speed cassette.

And since it comes pre-equipped with Bontrager GR1 Expert 700x40c tires, riders won’t have to worry about punctures or hydroplaning while zipping around town either!

Overall Value & Performance Rating

Ultimately, the Trek FX Sport 4 delivers an amazing level of value and performance for cyclists looking for an efficient daily commuter bike that can handle anything from tougher terrain to longer rides through town or country roads alike.

Thanks to its durable frame construction, maneuverable geometry, powerful components and affordable price tag, this model offers one of the most reliable packages available in 2023!

Lidl-Trek narrowly win opening team time trial at La Vuelta Femenina after late crash

S tarting in a similar fashion to the last two editions of La Vuelta Femenina, this year’s race began with an opening team time trial, with the riders rolling off the ramp to take on a 16km-long course around Valencia.

It was a tightly contested stage, with all of the top teams battling it out to give their leaders an early advantage in the general classification. However, it was Lidl-Trek that emerged victorious, as they averaged just under 50km/h to finish in a time of 19:20, with Gaia Realini leading the team across the line to take the first leader’s jersey of the race.

However, the American team could have gone quicker if it were not for a crash in the final corner, as Ellen van Dijk and Elynor Bäckstedt hit the deck, which held up some of their teammates on the approach to the finish. They managed to quickly regroup though and give one last push to the line to take the victory by just 0.02 seconds over Visma-Lease a Bike.

EF Education-Cannondale set the early benchmark with the first sub-20 minute time of the stage before several of the favourites’ teams headed out onto the course. However, when Visma-Lease a Bike went through the intermediate split at the halfway point, it was clear that the American team would not be at the top for much longer.

When they reached the finish, the Dutch team had set the new fastest time by nine seconds and were in the hot seat with 19:20 as the time to beat. Canyon-SRAM were the next big team across the line, with 19-year-old Zoe Bäckstedt dragging her teammates to the finish, but they were eight seconds off the pace.

All eyes were on Lidl-Trek though, as they were the quickest team over the first half of the course, with eight seconds of an advantage on Visma-Lease a Bike at the intermediate split. Coming into the finale, the riders were in formation and strung out in a line, but as they exited the final corner Ellen van Dijk got on the pedals slightly too early and her back wheel slipped out, which caused her to crash along with Elynor Bäckstedt who was right behind her.

This left Brodie Chapman and Elisa Longo Borghini alone ahead of their teammates and with the time taken at the fourth rider across the line, they were forced to sit up in order to regroup. Gaia Realini, Lizzie Deignan and Amanda Spratt were able to quickly rejoin them though and they mustered one final effort to get to the finish.

Although it looked like their hopes of a stage win had been snatched away from them, the clock was still in the green as they approached the line, with Realini urging her teammates on. In the end, they had just done enough to hang on for the victory, beating Visma-Lease a Bike by just 0.02 seconds.

They still had SD Worx-Protime to come though, with the European Time Trial Champion Marlen Reusser on the front as they went under the flamme rouge. However, they had been behind at the intermediate split and were unable to recover all of their lost time over the second half of the course, as they narrowly missed out on the victory, finishing 1.8 seconds down on Lidl-Trek.

The last team off the ramp at the start was Movistar, but they were unable to contest the victory, finishing 12 seconds down on Lidl-Trek, who took a well-earned victory as well as the first maillot rojo of the race, which Realini will be wearing on stage 2 from Buñol to Moncofa.

Penn Cambria star continues his spring trek in the 400

trek 4 sport

Mirror photo by Patrick Waksmunski Penn Cambria's Josh Stolarski placed third in the 100 meter dash behind winner Tristin Ohler of Meyersdale.

By Michael Boytim

[email protected]

LOYSBURG — Penn Cambria’s Josh Stolarski won the PIAA championship in the 400-meter dash last year, and he knows he has a target on his back going into his senior high school track and field season.

Stolarski lived up to the pressure at Friday’s Northern Bedford Invitational by setting a new personal best in the event and breaking the meet record, which had been held by Tussey Mountain graduate Jordan Donaldson since 2007.

“There is a ton of pressure on my shoulders,” Stolarski said. “I want to defend my 400, but I also want to branch out into the 200 and maybe the 100. As of right now, competitions have been great. I have only lost one 400 this season and only lost (twice in the) 200. Honestly, these dual meets and these invites aren’t really what I’m focused on. I’m focused on the end of the year, and that’s where I want to peak.”

Stolarski ran the 400 in 48.58, breaking Donaldson’s mark of 49.94. But Stolarski has even bigger goals for himself.

“I’m kind of unhappy with it,” Stolarski said. “I know it’s a PR, but I ran my all-time indoor PR with a 49.01, and that converts to a 48.3, so I kind of want to get it. I know I can run it, and I know I’m there. I just need to put a race together. Despite all that, I’m happy to set a new PR.”

Penn Cambria coach Todd Niebauer said Stolarski has the right mindset to deal with the pressure he will face this year as a known commodity.

“He’s a confident kid, and he’s been in the big meets,” Niebauer said. “What else are you going to tell him? He just has to go out and take care of business, and I think he knows that. He worked this summer and went to some big meets. He will just keep working on what he needs to on the track, and his confidence is definitely there.”

Stolarski’s only loss in the 400 this year was to State College’s Jesse Myers, who runs at the 3A level and also is a PIAA champion.

“I have to lock in on everything,” Stolarski said. “I have to get my training down. I need to hit my splits. I have been trying to open my first 200 in under 22 and just haven’t yet. I think once I get there, it’s going to all come together. But for still semi-early in the season, 48.5 is pretty solid for me.”

Stolarski wasn’t the only Panther to break a meet record on Friday. Senior teammate Carter McDermott broke his own mark in the long jump by 8 inches with a leap of 22 feet, 8.25 inches. He also won the triple jump in 42 feet, 7.5 inches.

“He jumped real consistent today,” Niebauer said. “He had 22 feet three jumps in a row. Triple jump wasn’t quite where he wants it, but I think he will be OK. That can all depend on the pits, but we’re real happy that we had a consistent 22 all day. If he can stay with that, I think he’ll be good at the end of the year.”

There were two more boys champions crowned from the Mirror’s coverage area at the invite.

Bode Layo of Portage won the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 7 inches, and Jack Dunn of Central won the high jump, clearing 6 feet.

On the girls side, Portage’s Cami Burkett, who medaled at the PIAA meet as a sophomore, is hoping to bounce back in her senior season after what she called a disappointing season last year.

“I want to be better than last year,” Burkett said. “We have the Altoona Invitational and the Heritage Conference meet coming up soon, so I guess we’ll see.”

Burkett won the 100 and 200 dashes at the NBC Invite in 12.92 and 26.4, respectively.

“Time wise, it wasn’t the best,” Burkett said. “It was freezing and windy. But to get first in both the 100 and 200 was really important. It’s our first invitational of the year, so it’s nice to see where I am.”

Burkett said warming up in the cold weather proved to be a challenge.

“The wind adds a second at least,” Burkett said. “Besides that, to get ready and everything, it’s very difficult. Especially when you have to wait in the tent for some time too.”

Two Central girls also won championships.

Central’s Dessa Boyles won the girls high jump by clearing 4-10, and Madison Kennedy won the javelin with a throw of 112-1.

This year’s Northern Bedford Invitational had more than 1,000 athletes and 21 schools, which were both the most ever in the event’s history.

U-M to Trek to Harvard for CWPA Championship

4/24/2024 3:33:00 PM | Water Polo

By: Alex Whisnant

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan water polo team (20-10) will get its postseason started with the CWPA Championship, Saturday and Sunday (April 27-28) at Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. The No. 2-seeded Wolverines will open play on Saturday at 2 p.m., facing the winner of the first-round matchup between Harvard and Saint Francis (Pa.).

• As the No. 2 seed, the Wolverines earned a first-round bye and will take on either tournament host Harvard or Saint Francis (Pa.) in the second round. With a win Saturday, Michigan would advance to CWPA Championship final on Sunday (April 28) at noon; U-M would play in the third-place game at 10 a.m. should it fall to its first opponent.

• Michigan owns a strong record against both its potential opponents, boasting a combined 34-1 record overall and going 3-0 this season against the Crimson and Red Flash combined.

• Senior Kata Utassy will look to make her mark in the final CWPA Championship of her career. She ended the regular season with a team-high 92 points (60 goals, 32 assists) and earned CWPA All-Conference first team recognition for the second consecutive season on Tuesday (April 24).

• Fellow all-conference first-team honoree Libby Alsemgeest will look to make an impact in the middle of the pool in Cambridge. The senior has drawn 108 exclusions in 2024, surpassing the school record she set in 2023. Alsemgeest also has provided a boost on offense with 32 goals which ranks fourth on the team.

• Goalie Alex Brown was honored with her second career CWPA All-Conference award, landing on the second team after a stellar fifth season in Ann Arbor. The graduate student boasts 267 saves in 2024 and crossed the 900-save threshold during the three-game weekend at Bucknell to become just the third goalie in program history to reach the milestone.

• Seniors Lola Ciruli and Elise Walker also were named to the CWPA All-Conference second team. Ciruli closed out her regular season with a flourish against the 14th-ranked Hoosiers, scoring twice and assisting on another to tally a team-high three points. Walker tallied two points against IU with a goal and an assist.

• Freshman Emma Gustafsson is poised to make an impact in her first CWPA Championship, ranking second on the team with 67 points including 40 goals. Gustafsson has proved to be an efficient scorer this season, converting on half of her shot attempts in 2024.
