"Paradise on the Earth"
Jammu and kashmir, india.
Situated in the northern part of India, Jammu and Kashmir, a union territory, is a land of diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The region is divided into two distinct geographical areas: Jammu , the southernmost part of the Shivalik mountain ranges and Kashmir , often referred as Paradise on Earth.
Nestled amid the breathtaking Shivalik mountain ranges, Jammu serves as the southernmost part of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Renowned as the Winter Capital of Kashmir, this holy city is celebrated for its majestic temples, ornate "shikhars," and cultural heritage. Serving as the gateway to the Vaishno Devi Temple and Amarnath Yatra , Jammu attracts tourists from far and wide. The city's backdrop against the snow-capped Pir Panjal Mountains creates a picturesque setting, forming a transition between the Himalayan range in the north and the plains of Punjab in the south. The rivers Ravi, Tawi, and Chenab further enrich the region's natural beauty. Known as the City of Temples, Jammu boasts the revered Raghunath Temple & Maha Kali Temple, a spiritual haven second only to the Vaishno Devi Temple. With roots dating back to the 14th century BC and a history shaped by the Dogra dynasty, the city is adorned with Buddhist Stupas dating back to the 2nd century AD, reflecting its rich heritage. The unique essence of Jammu extends to its cuisine, with the crown jewel being the delectable Wazwan, a traditional Kashmiri buffet and also shopping experiences . Jammu is a harmonious blend of pilgrimage sites, leisurely escapes, natural wonders, and a vibrant cultural heritage. Moving to the larger canvas of Kashmir, often referred to as the " Paradise on Earth ," the region captivates visitors with its scenic splendor, snow-capped peaks, and hospitable locals. Adventure seekers are drawn to its enchanting trekking and hiking routes, offering breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, and meadows. Gulmarg , known as one of India's top honeymoon destinations, stands out for its picturesque charm, distinct from the bustling towns of Manali and Shimla . The Gulmarg Gondola , Asia's longest cable car, adds to the town's allure. Srinagar's Dal Lake, adorned with Shikaras , and the Mughal gardens , including Nishat Bagh , Shalimar Bagh , and Chashm-E-Shahi, are must-visit destinations. Kashmir's culinary prowess, reflected in its Wazwan, attracts gastronomes worldwide, offering a taste of unique fragrant spices. Local products like Kashmiri shawls, apples, and dried fruits are coveted souvenirs from the vibrant Lal Chowk Market . However, visitors should be mindful of heavy snowfall affecting connectivity to certain destinations in Kashmir during the winter months from December to February. The unparalleled beauty, charm, and warmth of Kashmir are sure to leave an indelible mark on every visitor's memory. As we delve into the tapestry of Jammu and Kashmir, we explore the spiritual haven of Jammu, the mesmerizing landscapes of Kashmir, and the unique blend of pilgrimage, adventure, and cultural richness that defines this captivating region.

Tourist Places To Visit In Jammu and Kashmir
Few places in the subcontinent come close to the tummy-flipping beauty of the Himalayan mountain system. Like a pretty young girl, magnanimously voted by all as the beauty of her family, Jammu and Kashmir (often referred to simply, as J&K) has always been enveloped in an aura of mystery and elusiveness. J&K consist of 3 main regions: religiously oriented Jammu (the winter capital of the state), the pretty, flowery valleys of Kashmir and the cold, ruggedly handsome desert land of Leh - Ladakh . Whichever area you choose to start with, try completing the entire circuit to do full justice to these spellbinding lands of the North. The top tourist places to visit in Jammu and Kashmir include Srinagar , Pahalgam , Gulmarg and Leh among others. Read on for lots more.
Located on the banks of the Jhelum river, at an elevation of 5,200 feet, Srinagar holds the distinction of being the "summer capital" of J&K. Srinagar is well known for the"Dal Lake" and its many colourful 'shikharas' and house-boats. The area holds a rich cover of vegetation, the dominant forest consisting of conifers which account for over 90%. There are many species of rare, endangered and protected species to be found among the vegetation here. Wildlife enthusiasts are bound to spot some Hangul, Musk deer, Serow, Brown bear, Leopard, Rhesus macaque, Grey langur, Wild bears etc, apart from a large variety of exotic mountain birds. Due to the constant threat of illegal border crossings, the Indian army is always patrolling the area and is on constant high alert. However, the area is safe for tourists.

Legendary beauty, prime location and proximity to Srinagar make Gulmarg a premier hillstation in the region. Originally called "Gaurimarg" by shepherds, its present name was given in the 16th century by the Mughal Sultan Yusuf Shah, who was inspired by the sight of its grassy slopes emblazoned with wild flowers. But Gulmarg is not merely a mountain resort of flowery beauty- it also boasts of the highest green golf course in the world - at an altitude of 2,650 meters. The journey to Gulmarg is half the enchantment of reaching there -- roads avenued by tall fragrant poplars, rice fields interspersed with picturesque villages and lots of pretty fragrant flowers. There is a point known as "View Point", where travellers generally stop to get a lungful of fragrant air and take in the beauty of the white-capped mountains.

Situated at an altitude of 2730 metres, Sonamarg (that translates as 'Meadow of Gold') is backed by snowy mountains that stand tall against a cornflower blue sky. The Sindh River that meanders through the valley abounds with Trout, and angling is a favourite activity in this area. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to the Thajiwas glacier which is a major local attraction during the summer months (we recommend you have a walk instead). Weekend campers arrive here in herds during peak season. Thickly forested Sonamarg is filled with the fragrance of sycamore and alpine flowers, silver birch, fir and pine. Great to visit if you're an out and out nature lover.

There is very little left to say about the cold, bare and hauntingly beautiful desert of Ladakh , that hasn't already been said before. Tales of its beauty and mystique are sung far and wide, with people from all over the world putting the region on their bucket list of places to experience before they die. It's cold, it's crystal clear and it's very, very photogenic up here. Bi-humped bactrian camels, red cloaked monks, and flocks of mountain goat trudge along, lending the landscape a timeless aura. Stunning blue-green lakes ripple silently within giant basins of brown and purple rock. The sun and clouds bathe each part of the region in a different Hue at different times of the day; sometimes a hopeful golden, sometimes a glowering indigo. The region is very used to tourists, so you will always find plenty of places to stay, eat and rest. Hiring local driver-driven jeeps is expensive, so many people prefer to brave the terrain on yaks, bikes or on foot. Leh is a quiet, spiritual little town, steeped in tradition and Buddhist culture. Many people prefer to stay in Leh and make day trips into Ladakh and its neighbouring villages. Ladakh is great to visit if you're into travel photography or writing or just want a good adventure and some alone time.

The nearest India can make to being a ski resort is via its pine-fringed Gulmarg. Situated at an elevation of 2730 meters above sea level, it well justifies the Meadow of Flowers tag that it has received. The meadow is given a visual highlight by the 1890s Anglican Church of St Mary’s that sits on a lonely hillock which can be accessed off the dead-end road that links the 1965 neo-colonial style Hotel Highlands Park to the historic Gulmarg Golf Club. However, the key reason to visit Gulmarg is just not the same. You must visit Gulmarg to explore the backing stands of the splendid mature pines traversing you to the elevation of bald Mt Afarwat. To make it to mountain, you can either trek on foot or take help from ponies at a meagre amount of INR 300 per hour. However, the easiest way out is using the two-stage gondola cable car that flutters you to 3747m. The impressive clear day views from the top are worth the ride. During this ride, you’ll encompass Nanga Parbat which is the world’s ninth highest mountain peak located across Pakistan. Booking for this online can help save you from the long queues especially in the peak season of May and June. This service can however be cancelled either due to civil unrest or during bad weather and getting a refund from the organizers can get really annoying then. Base station of Gandola is situated about 1 km west of the bus stand.
Gulmarg endeavors you with more than 40 choices of accommodation each of them beautiful in their own very way. In the months of July, an average room fare (for a night) will be around INR 2000 for the old looking stays and INR 5000 for newer stays. Prices of the hotels see a drop of 20% in the winter season and a further dramatic drop when there is civil unrest in Srinagar or during the less popular months like September.
Best of Kargil
Amidst the Liddar Valley sits a picturesque destination in Kashmir – Pahalgam. It is located in the Anantnag district in Jammu at an elevation of 2740 metres above sea level. Also, it is one of the most sumptuous destinations in India and it must be on your bucket list when you chalk down the places to visit in Jammu and Kashmir. In the middle of tranquillity, you will surely find many out-of-the-world destinations too. Some of the stunning lakes such as Sheshnag Lake will surely take your breath away and beauteous pine trees will follow you wherever you go. If you are waiting for an adrenaline pump, you have plenty to look forward to on your trip to Pahalgam. Initiate trekking on a hill or climbing the Himalayas from a suitable summit and unleash all the adrenaline. If you visit this place in the right season, you will have one of the most remarkable skiing experiences as well. Apart from this, if you are looking to spend some quality time with your family on a holiday, you could not choose a better domestic destination than Pahalgam. You might want to indulge in various activities with them too by zorbing, sitting in various rides at famous amusements parks and what not! Traversing in and around Pahalgam is devoid of any fuss as you can easily find local transport means and not waste much time hovering around on your holiday. The weather is quite chilly from November to February with plenty of snow around. In the later months until April, it gets a bit warmer, albeit the minimum temperature hovers around 2-3 Degrees Celsius. The monsoon stretches from July till September. The autumn stretches until November and is quite dry with strong winds.

Restoring Peace and Security in Jammu and Kashmir is Top Priority, Says Azad
SRINAGAR: Chairman DPAP, Ghulam Nabi Azad, unequivocally stated that the party will not form alliances with any other party in the Lok Sabha elections.
Instead, the DPAP will contest independently. Azad emphasised the party’s commitment to fielding young, fresh candidates who embody honesty and possess the potential to effectively represent their constituents in Parliament, echoing his own legacy of raising voices for the people.

He said, ”I am Azad, I stand independent. My departure from the Congress was a result of leadership failure. Any praise from the Prime Minister in Parliament reflects solely on my work and honesty, devoid of affiliations. Our slate of Lok sabha candidates predominantly comprises young, untainted faces. My vision is to empower the youth, who possess the fervour to champion public causes. I am confident they will echo the public’s concerns in Parliament, much as I have.”
Azad stressed the importance of steering away from personal attacks and instead concentrating on agendas, visions, and past accomplishments. He challenged the other political factions, inviting them to partake in a constructive competition centred around development achievements.
“It’s time to transcend the hollow promises of self-rule and autonomy,” he asserted. “While others have profited from exploiting these sentiments, we remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering genuine advancements for our constituents,” he said.
Azad reiterated his commitment to bolstering tourism, fostering development, improving infrastructure such as roads, and enhancing educational institutions, emphasising that these are his primary objectives. He pledged to prioritise the welfare of the people, ensuring justice for victims of past injustices.
He said, “During my tenure as CM, insecurity was a thing of the past, and I vow to restore that peace and security once again.” He further extended an assurance to the people of Kashmir, promising to usher in an era where children can move freely without fear. Azad appealed to the people, urging them not to be swayed by the hollow promises of other parties, particularly the NC and PDP, highlighting their history of alliances with the BJP.
He exposed the duplicitous actions of certain parties who hoisted green flags in Kashmir only to align with the BJP and betray your trust,” the statement emphasised. “While in parliament, their members remained silent on crucial issues like Article 370, whereas I consistently voiced the concerns of Kashmiris.”
He underscored the importance of holding accountable those who have failed to deliver on their promises, urging the people to put their faith in leaders who have consistently advocated for their rights and interests. “Let us not be deceived again,” he urged.
