Moroccan Desert Adventure: River Canyons & Camels

We were driving a lot in Marocco, but we could see many facets of the country by doing so. The schedule was tight so I would advice to book one or more extra days to discover Marrakesh on your own afterwards. The bus for Transportation had air conditioning, was comfortable and clean. The driver did a good job, but on same places the winding route across the Atlas can be difficult for people who ten with motion sickness. Get some tablets for that. The guide was helpful and took good care of us. The accommodation varies from very beautiful in Marrakesh to simple in the mountain village. But even the mountain village has showers etc. The food was good and gave us some opportunities to test the local stuff. The prices were about 100 Diram per meal. Which is a bit higher than necessary, but acceptable.

It was amazing 5 days tour. Customer service representative - Mohamed was very kind and instantly replied to all my messages. He tried the best to arrange the pick up at the airport. Other Mohamed, my tour guide and also the driver, is on time, and make sure that I enjoyed and was comfortable. Folks at the campsite were very nice. Outdoors activities such as hiking down to the canyon, rock climbing in Todra Gorges, horses and camel riding, 4x4 off road driving, and quad biking are so fun. Accommodations were excellent, and people I met really made the trip. I loved everything about this tour. It was an unforgeable experiences.

He even went so far as to help me take photos of a toy my young granddaughter asked me to bring with me and take photos of as we traveled around the country. In November, 2022, my husband and I completed the 10 day Kasbah and Desert tour with Vacations to Go Travel. From the beginning, they were easy to communicate with and answered questions and sent info in a timely manner. While in Morocco, our tour guide and driver were excellent. They were prompt, knowledgeable and friendly and their understanding of English was great. The van was comfortable and the driver very professional. The overall itinerary was excellent and we were glad we extended our stay in Essaouira. Merzouga, Erg Chebbi and time in the desert were definitely highlights of the trip for us. Unfortunately, the hotel we stayed in the most each time we returned to Marrakech (El Alandrous) was the weak link. We found the hotel common areas to be fresh and well kept, but each of the four different rooms we stayed in were old, dirty, uncomfortable, loud and in need of general TLC. Otherwise, a wonderful trip and we would highly recommended.

I am satisfied in terms of arts, architecture, and history. Although the guide and the driver were good, certain hotels may be improved. a lengthy bus ride. On average, 4 to 5 hours every day.

This is our first trip to Morocco and it went so well with the help of the drivers Abdul & Hassan, who brought us to the most beautiful part of Morocco. I can’t thanks enough for their help and support during this wonderful journey.

Morocco Highlights Casablanca - 8 Days

Very nice intense tour; you have the chance to see all the imperial cities and spend a night in the desert. Some stops along the road could be optimized, like for example Toudra Gorge could be shorter. Overall recommended.

Two out of the 6 hotels were not up to standard, would have preferred better. Meals at most of the hotels barely average. I was expecting I would be joining an English speaking group. My wife and I was the only English persons. The tour company made up for it by giving us a separate driver and local guides at the attractions, however we never had a dedicated guide to accompany us like the rest of Tour group. We basically were on our own the entire tour. We missed out by not having the interaction with other Tour members . Southern part of Tour did not have as much to see and had too many days of long driving.

What people love about Sahara Desert Tours

It was an unforgettable tour and the amount of things we could see and do in only one week was unbelievable. Even though we spent a big part of the time driving, there were enough stops in between and I also got this strange feeling that time was passing more slowly on this trip, simply because we experienced so much. In the car, we could watch the scenery from the windows and people when driving through towns and villages. We could also take naps in the car, all in all it was a relaxing trip despite being full of adventure as well. Karim was a great guide, not least due to his humor and smiling. I also saw that he was good at dealing with different people within our group. He seemed to know almost everyone personally wherever we went, chatting briefly with people on our way. A few negatives though, a tiny part of the overall experience. We stopped 2-3 times shops for traditional handicraft (e.g. pottery) which I disliked as I'm not into shopping and found these stops too commercial. A stop at a place for making argan oil products was also too sales driven for my taste although I thought it was interesting to hear about the production process. Some of the women on the group bought something there, so they probably had a more positive view. There was also one stop at the end of the 4x4 excursion in the desert to listen to local music, which I think nobody particularly enjoyed. If you are going to Morocco for the first time, I would highly recommend this tour.

This was an adventure of a lifetime! I can not BEGIN to express how well taken care of myself and my two friends were. How kind everyone was, how well planned the itinerary was, how nice all the accommodations were and how INCREDIBLE the activities are. The People: Our tour guide Mohammad was amazing. He always had a great attitude and went above and beyond to be accommodating. By the end of the tour we all had inside jokes with each-other that still make me laugh when I think of them. The accommodations: Every hotel we stayed at was great- safe and clean. I will say the food was a tad repetitive but I think that’s just cause they are all tourist hotels. I especially LOVED the place we stayed at on the Dunes. We had a perfect night. The staff was amazing, the food was super tasty, the campfire was so fun and the hotel grounds were picturesque. The activities: THESE ARE THE REASON TO CHOOSE THIS TOUR!!!!! Seriously, if rock climbing, hiking, riding a camel over the Dunes at Sunset, riding a four wheeler up the Dunes, off roading in a 4wheel drive car, and exploring historical sites sound fun to you … then this is the tour for you! Everyday I made a memory that will last a lifetime. Perfection! Balloon Tour: Another mind blowing experience and more fantastic memories and interactions with folks. I felt safe, and they went above and beyond to make sure we got the best experience possible. Lastly we were in Marrakesh when the Earthquake happen, it was the night our tour had ended and we were leaving the next day. Even in the face of a national disaster, they texted us to make sure we were ok and then still picked us up the next day at the preplanned time and took us to the airport safety and on time. Choose this tour, I am so grateful that I did.

Western Sahara is a disputed territory on the northwest coast and in the Maghreb region of North and West Africa. About 20% of the territory is controlled by the self-proclaimed Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, while the remaining 80% of the territory is occupied and administered by neighbouring Morocco.

Western Sahara is a sparsely-populated area of mostly desert situated on the northwest coast of Africa. A former Spanish colony, it was annexed by Morocco in 1975. Since then it has been the subject of a long-running territorial dispute between Morocco and its indigenous Saharawi people, led by the Polisario Front.

Western Sahara is a non-self-governing territory on the northwest coast of Africa bordered by Morocco, Mauritania, and Algeria.  As part of this effort, the UN sought to offer a choice to the peoples of Western Sahara between independence (favoured by the Polisario Front) and integration into Morocco.

After crossing the rocky and forlorn expanses of the Hamada (stone desert) south from Tarfaya, the Western Saharan city of Dakhla is an appealingly relaxed destination. A constant feature is the cobalt intensity of the Atlantic Ocean, softened here by palm trees, a pleasant oceanfront esplanade and a shallow island-studded lagoon.

How to get to Western Sahara

The only international airport is in El Aaiun international airport, the capital. Flights come from the  Canary Islands , Morocco, and Spain. Other airports are located in Dakhla and Smara.

To arrive by car, one must either pass through Moroccan-controlled checkpoints along the border or enter into the Free Zone through Mauritania. The latter has virtually no roads, so driving will be possible only with a sport-utility vehicle.

Passport, Visa and Entry requirements for   Western Sahara

If your stay in Western Sahara is under 90 days, you do not need a visa. You do need to have a valid passport that needs to be valid at the time of entry with one empty page for a stamp.

The health sector of   Western Sahara

Changes in economic and political conditions in the Saharan countries during the last decade forced us to reconsider the health systems on a regional as well as local scale. The traditional medicines of the various cultures will play an important role in these processes. Traditional medicine is not the medicine of the poor before the introduction of European medicine it assured health care, however, there is no medical insurance that caters for international travellers so ensure you purchase travel and medical insurance before travelling to western Sahara and also pack a small medical kit with necessary medical supplies like tablets for headache, stomach upsets, Anti-malarial drugs and wound infection control drugs.

Malaria and Yellow fever vaccination for  Western Sahara

Country requirement: a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Recommended for all travellers aged 9 months or over going to areas south of the Sahara Desert.

Although the risk of malaria is low in Western Sahara, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent malaria. Some travellers to certain areas who are at higher risk for complications from malaria (such as pregnant women) may need to take extra precautions, like antimalarial medicine.

The currency of Western Sahara

The Sahrawi peseta is the currency of the partially recognized Sahrawi Arab Democratic. As this territory is mostly controlled by Morocco; the circulating currency in that part of the country is the Moroccan dirham, with Algerian dinars.

Official Language of  Western Sahara

Modern Standard Arabic and Spanish, the former colonial language, are the official languages of the Polisario Front, based in Tindouf, Algeria. Hassaniya, an Arabic dialect, is the native language spoken in Western Sahara and in the refugee camps in Tindouf in Algeria.

The middle-year months have very comfortable weather with high temperatures that are comfortable. These months see the least precipitation with about 0 days of precipitation per month. June – August is the second busiest season for tourism in Western Sahara, so lodging and other accommodations may cost slightly more.

Car hire and driving in   Western Sahara

The roads are a bit narrow in places requiring vehicles travelling in opposite directions, for one of them to pull over off the tarmac on to the beaten-earth hard shoulder. However, as traffic is light and intermittent mostly it’s not such a big deal, however, take great care of holes, sharp stones and edges. The only road South of the N1 is kept in good repair for national security purposes, in places where blowing sand might build up; bulldozer machinery is kept on standby nearby to quickly clear roads. Maybe it’s not a good idea to self-drive in Western Sahara.

Accommodation in Western Sahara

Mostly dominated by the desert, there is limited development in Western Sahara making it difficult to find decent accommodation throughout the country but there some decent accommodation facilities in the main capital Dakhla and few Auberges on the beach sides.

Local food of  Western Sahara

A major staple food of Western Sahara is the  couscous  that often accompanies one way or another all the food dishes. The influences of southern cuisine make them consume peanut as an accompaniment of some dishes.

For meat, the Sahrawis favour the Camel and Goat, pork is not eaten, since it is not halal Lamb also occupies a prominent place. Some tribes are famous for growing wheat, barley and cereals in general.

1998 Safari Sahara Ivory Edition model 3334. This diesel pusher is just over 33 feet long and powered by a turbo charged Caterpillar 3126 engine. It has an Alison six speed automatic transmission, Velvet Ride suspension, and Blue Ox True Center assist to the steering. It has been in storage since I moved to Galveston about two years ago, so it is time to part ways. The odometer is a few miles short of 74,000 miles, and I am the second owner. In July I had new tires put all around and installed an Onan Marquis Gold 6500 generator. I am the original owner of this diesel pusher with 2 slides. We have a Cummins 350 with Allison 6 speed. Air ride. I have done all the routine maintanence with all the records. We also replaced the trailing arm and added a ride enhancement package that included 2 Bilstein shocks in the past 2 years. We have just had a Freightliner B service done that includes oil and filter changed and lube. RV interior is fine, just been used a few years. If I were goi g to keep the coach I'd seriously think of upgrading all 3 TVs. It has a satellite dish with an automatic search feature that quit functioning when Direct TV upgraded to HD and the unit quit recognizing my receiver. I understand this is an easy electrical fix. The mid entry door is nice for coming and going under shelter, but the carpet does have some tracking from the door to the driving area. I had the washer dryer unit replaced with wire racks for more storage, but the hookups are there if you want to add the washer back in. The 10 gal hot water heater, the double refrigerator with ice maker, the microwave/convection oven, the 7.5kw Onan generator, and the 5 speaker surround sound all work nicely and make camping in this big rig easy. This is a smoke free unit.

Here in America, there is a rather big market for full-sized adventure bikes that promise to take you to the moon and back with all they offer. The small displacement, no frills, or as they say, the entry-level ADV segment . Yes, there are notable offerings in the form of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452, KTM 390 Adventure and the latest CFMoto’s Ibex 450 . But these bikes aren’t exactly small-displacement. All these can be a tad intimidating for new riders, especially on off-road terrain.

That is exactly the kind of gap that Honda is trying plug in 2024 with its new Sahara 300. It is everything we might have been searching for, be it small and punchy or properly off-road capable. Given that Honda has launched the bike in international markets, the all-new adventure motorcycle makes a strong case for why it needs to come to the U.S. too. Particularly, to take on the much-dated yet still popular Kawasaki Versys X-300.

With the new Sahara ADV, Honda wants to encash on the nostalgia of the 90s with the moniker, evident from their advertising campaigns for the new bike. The original NX350 Sahara came with a four-stroke, single-cylinder OHC, 4-valve engine. It had a displacement of 336cc (20.5 cu-in) which produced a peak power of 31.5 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 22.4 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 RPM. The Honda Sahara 300 Is The Successor Of The XRE 300

It has become so popular that the Brazilian army's motorized infantry brigades and the Colombian Policia Nacional have both adopted it in the past.

Now, the Sahara 300 comes in the picture to fill those shoes. But don’t think of it as a complete overhaul. Rather, the Sahara is more like a better-dressed version of the XRE model with improved mechanicals and aesthetics. The new Sahara gets a 293cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft, as opposed to the XRE 300's DOHC configuration. The engine generates 24.8 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 20 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 RPM. Interestingly, it is compatible with E100 fuel, meaning not only does it run on ethanol as well, but it also generates slightly better power figures on the said fuel.

A CB500X-Inspired Design For The New Sahara 300
