Pierre Part Louisiana Travel Guide, Tourist Information & Swamp Attractions

About pierre part.

Fans of "Swamp People" and other visitors to South Louisiana are always asking " Where is this place called Pierre Part ?"

Pierre Part is a community of about 3,000 residents in Assumption Parish in south central Louisiana, with the largest nearby cities being Baton Rouge , Morgan City , and Thibodaux .

Located in a sparesly populated area along the eastern edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, it shares this beautiful land with other small nearby communities such as Bayou Sorrel and Bayou Pigeon.

It is situated on land only 3 feet above mean sea level and is surrounded by water, and was thus isolated from much of the world and was not accessible by land, until the mid-20th century.

Pierre Part is a quaint, quiet small town, nestled in the beautiful swamps and bayous of South Louisiana. The town is clean, and the homes are lovely, and the people are friendly ... a highly recommended place to visit.

Our most recent trip to Pierre Part was on a perfect blue-sky day when many of the photos on this page were taken.

A wide range of local businesses serve the area, including the Pierre Part Store, in operation since 1911, the Rainbow Inn, Duffy's Shell Station, many fresh seafood outlets & restaurants, realtors, banks, attorneys, the Bayou Journal Newspaper, and many more.

Louisiana Highway 70 runs through Pierre Part, and the town can be reached from Morgan City from the south and Paincourtville from the east, as well as Donaldsonville and White Castle. The local Zip Code for Pierre Part is 70339.

Pierre Part is just east of the Atchafalaya Floodway system levee, and just north of Lake Verret , a relatively shallow lake surrounded by beautiful cypress trees.

To the south of Pierre Part on Highway 70 is the community of Belle River . To the north lies the community of Bayou Sorrel .

The Atchafalaya River meanders from near Simmesport southward past Pierre Part down to Morgan City and the Gulf of Mexico. The Atchafalaya Basin is a unique combination of wetlands, bayous, marshes, estuaries, and river delta area.

It is often called "America's Wetland" , and covers an area 20 miles wide and 150 miles long.

The " Swamp People " TV series debuted in August of 2010, and has become a runaway hit ever since.

The History Channel debuted Season 15 of Swamp People on January 4, 2024 , at 8/7C, with Episode 1, entitled “Cruel Summer.”

The show follows a group of alligator hunters during the 60-day Louisiana alligator season in various areas of South Louisiana, including the huge Atchafalaya Swamp. Various segments are shot around South Louisiana, including Pierre Part , Pecan Island , Bayou Sorrel, Bayou Pigeon, Morgan City , Houma and other locales.

Several of the hunters have become celebrities, including Troy Landry and his sons Jacob and Chase of Pierre Part. "Choot 'em" has become a famous phrase voiced by Troy on Swamp People. Other popular characters include, Elizabeth Cavalier, Bruce Mitchell, and others.

Besides Alligators, Another Delicacy from the Louisiana Swamps: Crawfish!

Alligator season is only 60 days. The rest of the year the fishermen in Pierre Part catch other delicacies from the local waters, including catfish, turtles, and crawfish.

In some part of the country folks might call 'em crayfish, crawdads, or mudbugs, but here in Louisiana they are simply CRAWFISH !

Nearly all of the live crawfish sold in the U.S. come from Louisiana, and begin life in the wild waters of the state, or on a farm. The harvesting of crawfish from natural habitats such as bayous, swamps and marshes provides a significant number of jobs for Louisiana residents.

WeLoveCrawfish.com ... photos, crawfish season, Cajun foods, ordering and much more! ... click to visit now

Crawfish season varies from one year to the next, based on how cold (or mild) the weather was during the Louisiana winter. It also depends on the amount of rain, and the water levels in the swamps and bayous. Generally, the crawfish season in Louisiana runs from January through July for crawfish caught in the wild. Crawfish from farms is available over a longer period of the year.

Louisiana is known for its Cajun and Creole culture, and its legendary Cajun cooking and crawfish. Excellent Cajun cooking abounds in all parts of Louisiana, whether your tastes tend to seafood gumbo, Boudin, Andouille sausage, or maybe even fried alligator!

Crawfish is a key ingredient in many Louisiana dishes and meals ... some of our favorites are Crawfish Etouffee, Crawfish Bisque, Crawfish Pie, Fried Crawfish, Crawfish Jambalaya, and of course boiled crawfish.

Swamp Tours in the Atchafalaya Basin Near Pierre Part

One of the most popular things to do in Louisiana is touring the swamps! Most tours are concentrated in South Louisiana.

The area between Lafayette and Baton Rouge offers a number of swamp tours, operating from communities such as Breaux Bridge, Henderson, St. Martinvile and Plaquemine.

Swamp tour operators provide a variety of options, boats, tour length and cost. Some use flat bottom boats, others use airboats. Kayak and canoe tours are also available.

Some operators offer online reservations but others accept reservations only by phone. Some tours accept credit cards but others require cash, so make your plans accordingly.

Our Connections to South Louisiana

We've spent years living in Baton Rouge, and frequented Breaux Bridge , Butte LaRose, St. Martinville and dozens of other South Louisiana towns ... like Pierre Part.

Our ancestors are all Cajun, and our family roots are from the Bayou Lafourche area and nearby towns of Paincourtville, Napoleonville, Plattenville, and Labadieville .

We are Boudreaux, Fremin, Gautreaux, Thibodeaux, Prejean, and Bourg. My grandfather worked in the sugar cane fields along the bayou and my father in the sawmills in White Castle.

'Swamp People': Troy Landry's Age, Bio and More Personal Details

Meet 'Swamp People' cast member Troy Landry.

By Allison Schonter - April 1, 2024 06:02 pm EDT

For the past 13 years, History Channel viewers have tagged along with Swamp People 's Troy Landry as he's battled it out on Louisiana's swamps to cement his place as one of the most notable gator hunters out there. But who is the so-called "King of the Swamp" ?

Born in Pierre Part, Louisiana in 1960 to Duffy and Myrtle Landry, gator hunting is in Landry's blood. Landry, 62, grew up in a family of crocodile hunters, shrimpers, trappers, moss peddlers, and lumberjacks and is the fifth generation to own an alligator hunting business. Speaking with the New York Post in 2012, Landry said, "gator hunting is something I grew up. People ask me, "How you got into that?" I didn't get into it. I was raised in it." Landry explained that as he was growing up, his family would hunted gators for their meat. Now, they "hunt now for a different reason," Landry sharing that "we can sell the hides more than the meat."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Swamp People (@swamppeople)

While Landry is best known for gator hunting , the job only takes up a sliver of time throughout the year. Gator hunting season in the Atchafalaya Rover Basin swamp only lasts a few days each year, with Landry participating in both the East Zone and West Zone seasons for a total of 60 days of gator hunting. Although gator hunting only takes up two months of the year, it is Landry's most profitable work experience, as he consistently fills more tags than any swamper in the Louisiana." According to his History bio , Landry and his sons, Jacob and Chase, whom he shares with wife Bernita, run "an armada of boats each season to help control the gator population." Landry's expansive knowledge of Louisiana's swamps and his skills as a gator hunter have earned him the nickname, "King of the Swamp."

When he's not spending time in the bayou, Landry spends the rest of the year focusing on his various other business endeavors. He was recently the inspiration behind Savage Arms' Landry Signature Rifles . He also appears on Swamp People . Landry's various business endeavors have cemented him a pretty hefty net worth. According to Celebrity Net Worth , Landry has an estimated net worth of $2 million, a decent chunk of which can be credited to his appearance on Swamp People , which he joined in 2010. The show regularly sets ratings records for the History Channel, and Landry's own catchphrase, "Choot em," has become popular on various types of Swamp People merchandise.

Landry is also a big family man. He has been married to his wife Bernita Landry since September 1981. The couple share two sons – Chase Landry and Jacob Landry. He is also the stepfather to Brandon Landry. Swamp People is currently in its 14th season. New episodes air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on History. Episodes of Swamp People: Serpent Invasion air Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Troy Landry Is on the Road to Recovery After a Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Aug. 16 2022, Published 9:56 a.m. ET

Few shows have a more devoted fanbase than Swamp People , so it's only fitting that so many would be concerned about the health of one of the show's stars, Troy Landry . Rumors have been swirling about Troy's health, and they've led some to wonder what happened to him and whether he'll be around for the show's next season or not.

What happened to Troy Landry? Did he die?

Thankfully for fans and for his family, Troy is still alive. In a recent video update posted to Facebook, his son, Jacob Landry, explained that his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer but is now home from the hospital and on the road to recovery.

"Each day he's been getting better and better," Jacob said in the video. "They removed his prostate. Everything looks good, got the lab work back, they think they got everything out."

Jacob thanked fans for their thoughts and prayers and then said that Troy was trying to get better before 'gator season because they have the green light for a 14th season of Swamp People .

Troy also weighed in in the comments under the video, thanking his fans for their support and letting them know that he's doing "much better." It seems like excellent news for Troy.

The Landry clan has been with 'Swamp People' from the start.

Jacob and Troy are two of the oldest members of the Swamp People cast, so it's no wonder that fans have a special attachment to them that has only grown over the course of the show's run. Troy has also been involved in the show's spin-off, Serpent People , so it's fair to say that his condition is of critical interest to those who are most devoted to the show.

Fans are thrilled to hear that Troy is in recovery.

In the comments under Jacob's videos, fans were eager to celebrate the good news that Troy seemed to be recovering successfully from his cancer.

"I had it about 10 years ago and made my way through it. With God's help you’ll do the same," one person wrote in the comment.

"Awesome trick, gotta remember that one, please tell your dad hello from Cypress, Texas and thank you Lord for the good news, God is Good All the Time!!!!" another added.

Yal make sure to go to Da Landry Life page and click the follow button!!! I’ll send you some of Jacob’s corn if he has any left 🤣🤣 Posted by Troy Landry on  Monday, August 15, 2022

"Troy and Jacob, My wife are in our seventies and we never miss your shows. Our prayers and thoughts go out for you, Tom. I also went through prostrate cancer twice. Looking forward to the upcoming season. Troy adding little Pickle to your boat was a good move. Blessings from the Cokers in South Carolina. Get well and have fun!!" another person added.

Troy is clearly beloved by his fans, and while it's unclear exactly how active he'll be able to be in the next season of Swamp People , fans are eager to see him in almost any capacity. He's focused on his recovery for now, and when it comes time to film the next season, fans will have to wait and see what kind of shape he's in.
