About P&O Cruises
P&O Cruises has been well known and loved in the UK for 175 years. Since 2015, the cruise line has also become increasingly established on the German market. Guests appreciate the traditional high sea experience with a typically British flair. Knowledge of the English language is important to get on board. The fleet of P&O Cruises is child friendly, except the M / S Arcadia and the M / S Oriana that are ships for adults only. The board currency on all ships is the British pound.
The M / S Ventura is a mid-sized, family-friendly cruise ship that can accommodate up to 3,078 passengers (double occupancy). The ship has a length of 290 meters and offers space at 15 passenger decks. Dame Helen Mirren is the godmother of the ship, which has been cruising the oceans since 2008. The last modernization took place in 2018. A wide range of bars, restaurants, sports and spa facilities and a variety of entertainment options will keep you entertained on board. With a kid's club for different age groups and a play area for children under 2, M / S Ventura is also great for families.
On board the Ventura all common cabin categories, from the inside cabin to the suite are available. The cabins are spacious and modern equipped, with a TV, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and other amenities. The single beds can be converted into a king size bed. The indoor and outdoor cabins are 12-16 m² in size, the balcony cabins have a size of 22-29 m² including the balcony, while the suites with balconies measure between 42 and 69 m².
Atmosphere on Board
On board a British and traditional cruise experience that meets the latest standards awaits you. The atmosphere is casual and generally easy and relaxed. Casual clothing for the day, adjusted to the destination and more formal evening attire are recommended for a cruise with P & O Cruises. Too casual clothing, such as tracksuits or disguises are not welcome. Various restaurants of famous star chefs, elegant bars and shows in the style of London's West End meet the leisure requirements of modern cruise guests.
Food and Beverages
All meals in the main and buffet restaurants, snacks, cabin service and afternoon tea are already included on board, as well as coffee, tea, water and juices in the buffet restaurants. Various chefs have created interesting and varied dishes for the fleet of the cruise line. The daily changing menus in the main restaurant are inspired by British cuisine. Particularly popular among the three on-board specialty restaurants is the "Sindhu", which offers special Indian delicacies.
Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation
In the evening there are spectacular shows as well as comedy and cabaret performances. Furthermore, live music, a casino and various lectures and courses are offered. You can end the day in one of the many different bars and have a stimulating conversation with fellow travelers with delicious drinks and cocktails. For spa lovers, there are various pools onboard and the Oasis Spa with various treatments and offers (fees may apply). Active people can work out in the gym, on the sports court or on the golf simulator.
Our Summary
If you like it "very british" and are a fan of traditional cruises, you are just right aboard the Ventura by P & O Cruises! Knowledge of the English language is strongly recommended, as no German-speaking service is offered.

State investigating amid reports cruise ship sailed too close to Kauai’s Na Pali Coast
KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state Land Department is investigating after Kauai advocates say a cruise ship got too close to shore at the Na Pali Coast.
Kauai community advocates said the ship appeared to be in very shallow water and about 1,000 feet offshore.
According to Celebrity Cruise’s website, the Celebrity Edge is advertising Hawaii cruises from Vancouver.
But a passenger told HNN they came from Sydney, Australia.
“It’s just plain wrong to be in that close to the shore. Period,” said resident Presley Wann.
“I find it very offensive, very upsetting because of the lack of protocol.”
One Na Pali tour manager and captain says it’s the first time he’s seen an incident like this.
“I’ve never seen this in 20 years of Na Pali Coast tours in my life. It’s mind blown,” said Sam Martin.
The DLNR said it’s “aware of the situation and is investigating. We are also consulting our partners with the U.S. Coast Guard and state Department of Transportation on this matter. We have nothing more to add at this time.”
Added state DOCARE Enforcement Chief Jason Redulla: “We’ve received numerous reports. Our officers on the island of Kauai and in Honolulu are working this case.”
Wann worries about cultural and environmental impacts.
“Some of the shots that were taken from the air actually showed the sand being disturbed at the bottom so all of these environmental impacts that it created was very upsetting to me,” said Wann.
The ship was docked at Honolulu Harbor on Wednesday and Wann met with the state Boating Division.
“I understand that that DLNR has taken at least one of their agencies and may have been on board taking statements from the cruise ship,” said Wann.
Hawaii administrative rules mention a 3,000 foot seaward from shore rule and commercial vessels with more than 50 passengers are not permitted to operate with Na Pali Coast Ocean waters.

Port Milwaukee welcomes 1st cruise ship of 2024 season
Port milwaukee welcomes 1st cruise ship of season.
Port Milwaukee welcomed the Viking Octantis on Wednesday, May 1 – the first cruise ship to call on the city for the 2024 season.
MILWAUKEE - Port Milwaukee welcomed the Viking Octantis on Wednesday, May 1 – the first cruise ship to call on the city for the 2024 season.
This marks the third consecutive year that Octantis has arrived as the inaugural cruise ship. Port Milwaukee expects another strong cruising season in 2024, with 27 visits from seven vessels between early May and mid-October. Port officials estimate over 12,000 global passengers will visit Milwaukee this season.
Viking Octantis, its sister Viking Polaris, and the Pearl Seas vessel Pearl Mist will account for Milwaukee ’s early summer cruise visits, Port Milwaukee said. The port expects a significant increase in cruise vessel traffic in September as passengers set their sights on the region’s fall colors and fair weather.

"The Great Lakes cruise industry is a big contributor to our region’s tourism," Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in a statement. "Cruise passengers continue to see why Milwaukee is a highly desirable destination."
Milwaukee earned a place on National Geographic's Best of the World list for 2023, the city said, an honor that strengthened the excitement for the cruising season and set the stage for another successful year.
Port Milwaukee carried the momentum from a record-breaking 2022 into the 2023 cruise season by welcoming the inaugural visits of the Hanseatic Inspiration and Viking Polaris. The number of unique cruise vessels that visited Milwaukee climbed to nine, the highest in any season.
"Today marks the official start of the 2024 cruise season and a great day for tourism in Milwaukee," Jackie Carter, Port Milwaukee's director, said in a statement. "Each cruise visit results from the hard work between the Port and our local, regional, and global partners. We look forward to warmly welcoming thousands of passengers who will visit our community throughout the season."

An ultra-luxury cruise line wants to attract wealthy Americans with its all-inclusive 'yachts' — see what the new 128-guest ship will be like
- Ultra-luxury cruise line Emerald Cruises says its third ocean ship will debut in 2026.
- The all-inclusive vessel, which Emerald calls a "yacht," would accommodate up to 128 people.
- Emerald, known for river cruises, has been investing more in its ocean-based business.
Over the last few years, the mass-market cruise industry's larger-than-life mega-ships — outfitted with loud waterparks and more dining options than you could eat in a week — have dominated the spotlight.
But in the ultra-luxury cruise market, it's been the opposite. The smaller and more exclusive the vessel, the better. So much so that Emerald Cruises' next ocean-based ship, launching in 2026, plans to accommodate no more than 128 travelers.
It's a far cry from Royal Caribbean's new 7,600-guest cruise liner . And the price difference is just as steep: almost $250 per night on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas versus more than $720 per night on the upcoming ultra-luxury Emerald Kaia.
"When people think of cruising now, they automatically think of these large ships ," Robert Castro, the vice president of marketing for Scenic Group, Emerald's parent company, told Business Insider. "There's a market for that, but we're in a unique position."
If you’re familiar with river cruises, Emerald might ring a bell.
The cruise line, owned by Scenic Group, only offered river cruises for its first nine years.
But lately, its biggest growth and investments have been in oceans, not rivers.
In 2022 and 2023, the Switzerland-based company launched its first two ocean cruise ships, which it calls "yachts." Each accommodates a maximum of 100 guests . And so far, they've been hits, with the cruise line experiencing record-high bookings in 2023.
Yes, the ships look like yachts. And yes, they're marketed as such.
But because Emerald's vessels operate group itineraries, they still technically count as cruise ships, albeit really nice ones.
So instead of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a week to charter a yacht, as is traditional with these high-end vessels , travelers can spend less than $800 a day for a traditional cruise on said yacht-like ship.
While it's not nearly as exclusive, it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper, "bringing the charter yacht experience to reach for people who would never even imagine," Castro said.
Emerald’s upcoming 393-foot-long, 128-guest Kaia would be perfect for fans of small, high-end ships.
The 64-cabin Emerald Kaia would have a larger guest capacity than its two predecessors but would still be tiny compared to most cruise ships, including some of the most luxurious ones.
Regent Seven Seas' new Grandeur can accommodate 746 guests, while Ritz-Carlton says its next ship will sail up to 448 travelers.
Even Four Season's upcoming vessel — with fares up to $350,000 a week — would have a larger guest capacity of up to 222 people. However, it would be almost 290 feet longer than Emerald Kaia.
Like traditional cruise ships, Kaia would have amenities like a spa, two lounges, and three dining options.
The top deck would also have a cabana and bar-lined pool, one of three swimming holes on the ship.
But unlike its mass-market competitors, Kaia would have an open-air marina that would give travelers direct access to the water.
Water platforms are typically only common on yacht-marketed ships, such as Emerald's, Ritz-Carlton's, and, someday, Four Seasons'.
This means guests on the upcoming Kaia could dip in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean seas — as is included in its 2026 and 2027 itineraries — without disembarking the ship.
According to the cruise line, Emerald Kaia's future itineraries include an 11-day sailing from Cyprus to Greece and a 20-day one from Seychelles to Kenya.
Its cheapest itinerary is currently an eight-day roundtrip Seychelles vacation in 2027, starting at $5,055 per person.
As an all-inclusive cruise line, amenities like alcohol, WiFi, and excursions would be included in the base fare. However, unlike all-inclusive competitor Regent Seven Seas , guests must pay for their flights to and from the ship.
To compare, itineraries of the same length on Regent's Seven Seas Grandeur and Ritz-Carlton's Ilma would be $36 cheaper and $120 more expensive, respectively, per day.
But the fares aren't stopping travelers from gravitating toward Emerald. Before it unveiled Kaia, its parent company announced a record number of bookings in January — up 67% compared to its previous record in January 2020.
Castro said about 20% to 35% of its guests are American, typically well-acquainted with luxury travel.
The company's goal has been to increase its number of American customers. So far, it's working and is now "on track to be Emerald's No. 1 market," Castro told BI.
The new vessel is being built at a great time for the cruise line.
Strong demand, compounded by a small fleet of small ships, has led to fewer available cabins for its upcoming summer Mediterranean cruises.
Several of these sailings are now fully reserved. The cheapest remaining fares start at $4,570 per person for an eight-day November sailing from Athens, Greece, to Dubrovnik, Croatia.
It's great news for Emerald as it considers a future with more ocean "yachts." "The sooner we fill the ships, the sooner we start building new ones," Castro said.

New deep-water channel allows first ship to pass Key bridge wreckage in Baltimore
The first cargo ship passed through a newly opened deep-water channel in Baltimore on Thursday after being stuck in the harbor since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed four weeks ago, halting most maritime traffic through the city's port.
The Balsa 94, a bulk carrier sailing under a Panama flag, passed through the new 35-foot channel headed for Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Two more commercial ships followed later Thursday, including a vehicle carrier headed to Panama.
What You Need To Know
The first cargo ship passed through a newly opened deep-water channel in baltimore after being stuck in the harbor since the francis scott key bridge collapsed four weeks ago a bulk carrier passed through the new 35-foot channel thursday morning, headed for saint john, new brunswick, canada, followed by two more commercial ships later thursday, including a vehicle carrier headed to panama a total of five stranded vessels are expected to pass through the temporary channel a container ship named dali struck the francis scott key bridge last month, causing the bridge to collapse; the port's main channel is set to reopen next month after the dali has been moved.
Their long-awaited voyages marked an important step in the ongoing cleanup and recovery effort as crews have been working around the clock to clear thousands of tons of mangled steel and concrete from the entrance to Baltimore's harbor.
Five vessels that have been stranded for weeks are expected to finally leave Baltimore through the new, temporary channel. Other ships are scheduled to enter the port, which normally processes more cars and farm equipment than any other in the country.
Thousands of longshoremen, truckers and small business owners have seen their jobs impacted by the collapse, prompting local and state officials to prioritize reopening the port and restoring its traffic to normal capacity in hopes of easing the economic ripple effects of the collapse. Officials have also established various assistance programs for unemployed workers and others impacted by the closure.
On Thursday morning, the Balsa 94 moved through the channel guided by two tug boats, one in front and one behind. It glided slowly past the fallen bridge and grounded Dali, the massive container ship that caused the collapse when it slammed into one of the bridge's support columns.
Pieces of the steel span are still blocking other parts of the port's main channel, which has a controlling depth of 50 feet, enough to accommodate some of the largest cargo and cruise ships on the water.
The Balsa 94 is expected to arrive in Canada on Monday.
The Dali lost power and veered off course shortly after leaving the Port of Baltimore bound for Sri Lanka last month.
Six members of a roadwork crew — all Latino immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras — plunged to their deaths in the collapse. Four bodies have been recovered from the underwater wreckage while two remain missing.
A memorial for the victims near the south end of the bridge has grown in recent weeks. It now includes six large wooden crosses decorated with flags from the victims' home countries and other personal items, including the hardhats and work boots that allowed them to provide for their families and chase the American dream. A painted canvas backdrop displays abstract scenes from the bridge collapse and salvage efforts as well as handwritten notes from the men's loved ones.
"We want to send a message to the world that we're here and we care," said the artist, Roberto Marquez, who was visiting the memorial late Thursday morning. "We will be here working until they are all recovered."
The new channel will remain open until Monday or Tuesday and then close again until roughly May 10. During the closure, crews will work to remove steel spans from the deck of the Dali and refloat the ship, which will then be guided back into the port, officials said earlier this week.
The port's main channel is set to reopen next month after the Dali has been removed from the collapse site. That will allow for a normal flow of traffic to resume through the port.
But for now, the 35-foot depth is a substantial increase over the three other temporary channels established in recent weeks. It puts the cleanup effort slightly ahead of schedule, as officials previously said they hoped to open a channel of that depth by the end of April.
A hulking vehicle carrier named Carmen that is nearly as long as the Dali became the third commercial ship to traverse the channel Thursday afternoon. Viewed from the deck of a nearby passenger boat, it appeared to sail steadily between the marker buoys, dwarfing the cranes, barges and other wreckage removal equipment that was stationed nearby.
Even with commercial ships chugging past, crews continued the arduous process of clearing debris from the collapse site. On Thursday, they were using a crane apparatus to smash the fallen roadway into more manageable pieces that could be lifted from underwater with a giant claw.
In a court filing Monday, Baltimore's mayor and city council called for the Dali's owner and manager to be held fully liable for the bridge collapse, which they said could be devastating for the regional economy. They said the port, which was established before the nation's founding, has long been an economic driver for Baltimore and the surrounding area. Losing the bridge itself has also disrupted a major east coast trucking route.
The filing came in response to an earlier petition on behalf of the two companies asking a court to cap their liability under a pre-Civil War provision of an 1851 maritime law — a routine procedure for such cases. A federal court in Maryland will ultimately decide who's responsible and how much they owe.
In the meantime, both the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting probes to determine what caused the ship to lose power and strike the bridge.
