Thiruvananthapuram: The capital city is set to become a high-security zone during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Tuesday. The railway station, central stadium and the city itself will be subject to increased security measures. A meeting of station house officers convened under the city police commissioner on Saturday discussed the security arrangements.

It was decided at the meeting that public parking would be prohibited along the route that the PM's convoy will take. Traffic will also be restricted completely in this area. KSRTC buses will not be permitted to enter or exit from the Thampanoor bus stand for several hours before the PM's arrival. The depot will be closed from 8 am to 11 am, and the shops in the complex will also remain closed until 11 am.

The parking area of the bus stand will be cleared out the day before, and KSRTC bus services will start from Vikas Bhavan. Auto rickshaws may also be removed from the Thampanoor region.

On the day of the visit, passengers will only be allowed to enter the first and second platforms of the Thiruvananthapuram railway station, and the sale of tickets may be regulated.

These strict security measures were implemented based on intelligence reports that revealed potential threats to the PM's safety during his visit to Kerala.

The final guidelines on the security arrangements will be released on Monday.

PM In Kerala On April 24 To Flag-Off Vande Bharat Train As 'Vishu Gift'

"It is a historic moment that Kerala is waiting for," the BJP said, describing the Vande Bharat being allotted to Kerala as the PM's "vishu kaineettam" (Vishu gift).

PM In Kerala On April 24 To Flag-Off Vande Bharat Train As 'Vishu Gift'

PM Modi will flag-off the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express train in Thiruvananthapuram.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kerala on April 24 for a two-day visit and attend a host of programmes including the flagging off of the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express train in Thiruvananthapuram.

The BJP state unit, which is making all arrangements to accord a grand reception to the PM, shared a poster on Facebook announcing his visit, saying the "world leader" was coming to Kerala and tens of thousands of people would take part in a huge road show in Kochi on April 24.

However, they did not specify whether the PM himself would take part in the road show or not, but said the PM would be given a grand reception at the international airport here when he arrives to flag off the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express on April 25.

As the general elections are around the corner, with just about a year to go, the party's propaganda machinery is doing its best to give maximum publicity to the unexpected allotment of the semi-high speed train to the state.

The BJP leaders drew parallels between Vande Bharat and the state government's shelved Silver Line project and claimed that while the Pinarayi Vijayan government tried to bring development by evicting thousands of people, the Modi government was doing it without causing any difficulty to anyone.

PM Modi is also visiting the southern state amidst the BJP's massive minority outreach programme which apparently has evoked a positive response from a section of priests of various Christian denominations.

The party leaders' recent visit to Christian families and their breakfast meetings with some priests in the community are being viewed as part of their efforts to reach out to minorities ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The party believes that PM Modi's visit would give an impetus to their ongoing campaign and kickstart the party's propaganda for the general election.

Kerala to emerge as a strong voice in Lok Sabha, bullet trains to become a reality in South India: PM Modi

 alt=

Thrissur: Kerala will emerge as a strong voice in the Lok Sabha this time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

The PM said that bullet train service which is being implemented in western India would soon become a reality in South India. "Once the NDA government comes back to power for a third time, it will commence survey work for ensuring bullet trains in north, east and south India similar to the bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. It would spearhead development in the South," he said. By referring to him in third person, the PM spoke of the various promises and development programmes mentioned in the BJP's manifesto -- called 'Modi ki Guarantee' -- that was released on Sunday.

He was taking part in the public meeting as part of the election campaign on Monday morning at Kunnamkulam in Alathur constituency in Thrissur district.

The Prime Minister added that the achievements of the BJP government in the past 10 years was a mere trailer. He also attacked the Congress by alleging that it created a weak image of India in the world, while the BJP had built the country into a strong nation.

He also accused the Left government of hindering Centre's development programmes in the southern state and alleged that the Left front will ruin Kerala like it did in other states where it was in power in the past.

Modi also attacked the CPM-led government in the state by referring to the Karuvannur Cooperative bank scam and accusing the Left party of looting money belonging to the poor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Kerala on Sunday as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's fervent electoral drive leading up to the imminent Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister, who reached Kochi from Mysuru on Sunday night, stayed at the Ernakulam Guest House.

The Prime Minister is attending the election campaign for NDA candidates T N Sarasu and Suresh Gopi, contesting in Alathur and Thrissur respectively.

After that, he will travel to Kattakkada in Thiruvananthapuram district. At Kattakkada, Modi will campaign for V Muraleedharan and Rajeev Chandrashekar, the two union ministers contesting under the NDA banner from Attingal and Thiruvananthapuram constituencies respectively.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also in Kerala for election campaign today.  Polling in Kerala for the general elections will be held on April 26 for all 20 constituencies. This is Modi's sixth visit to the state. He had last come to Kerala on March 19 when he held a massive roadshow in Palakkad district. His Palakkad roadshow followed his participation at a public meeting in Pathanamthitta town on March 15, where he rallied support for NDA candidates contesting in the southern Kerala constituencies. Prior to that, he had visited the state twice in January and once in February. These visits included both official and party functions. (With PTI inputs.)

Modi to inaugurate Vande Bharat Express on day 2 of Kerala visit

Prime minister narendra modi on monday addressed a youth conclave and met christian leaders in kochi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express, Kerala’s first such train, on day two of his visit to the southern state, where he addressed a youth conclave and met Christian leaders in Kochi a day earlier

Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (PTI)

He will arrive at Thiruvananthapuram central railway station at 10.30am to preside over the inauguration ceremony in presence of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and governor Arif Mohammad Khan.

Modi will later flag off the country’s first water-integrated metro system in Kochi connecting rail, road, and waterways for decongesting existing transport networks and providing the cheapest travel to idyllic backwaters. He will also, among other things, inaugurate a Digital Science Park.

In his address to the youth conclave in Kochi, Modi on Monday said Kerala will also soon accept the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after Goa and the northeastern states as he called for a change in the state while blaming the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front and the Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front for holding back the state’s development.

The BJP last year returned to power in Goa, which has a 25.10% Christian population. It shares power in alliance with regional parties in the Christian-majority northeastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Modi’s meeting with Syro-Malabar church head Cardinal George Alancherry and eight other Christian leaders in Kerala came against the backdrop of the BJP attempts to reach out to the Christians, which account for 18.38% of the state’s population while Hindus 54.73%, and Muslims 26.56%.

The BJP lost its lone seat in Kerala in the 2021 assembly elections. Outreach to the Christian community is seen as a key aspect of the BJP’s attempts to make inroads into the state.

CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan cited attacks against Christians in north India and said Modi’s meeting with their Christian leaders will not make any impact.

Apple CEO Tim Cook concluded his 2-day visit to Vietnam, during which he met with Prime Minister of Vietnam Phạm Minh Chính and promised to expand investment in Vietnam.

Cook arrived in Indonesia on April 16 and is expected to meet with the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on the 18th. According to The Voice of Vietnam , Cook met with Phạm Minh Chính in the capital city of Hanoi. Pham hoped that Apple could build Vietnam into a manufacturing center.

Pham affirmed Apple's contribution to Vietnam, integrating Vietnam into the global supply chain, and creating about 200,000 job opportunities in Vietnam in recent years. In the future, both sides will continue to jointly cultivate more highly technical labor and focus on visions such as green manufacturing and clean energy manufacturing.

Cook expressed that he's had a good trip in Vietnam. He met many local developers, creators, and singers. He also visited local schools and startups, stating that there will be increased cooperation with Vietnam and high-quality investments in the future.

Bloomberg pointed out that Apple has promised to expand its investment in Vietnam but has not disclosed detailed figures. Apple claimed it has invested approximately US$15.8 billion in the Vietnamese supply chain since 2019. Currently, Apple has a total of about 70 factories in Vietnam, with over 250,000 employees.

After concluding his 2-day visit to Vietnam, Cook also posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 16th, stating that he had arrived in Indonesia and would meet with local developers and creators' communities there.

On eve of Japanese prime minister’s visit to North Carolina, Fujifilm announces more jobs there

  • Copy Link copied

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Hours before the Japanese prime minister’s arrival in North Carolina, a subsidiary of Japan’s Fujifilm Corp. announced Thursday plans to expand further a massive biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant in the state, even as the initial phase is not yet complete, promising another 680 jobs.

Gov. Roy Cooper joined a company executive and local government leaders in unveiling an additional $1.2 billion investment in Holly Springs, where Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies is building what’s being billed as one of the largest cell culture facilities of its kind in North America. The new jobs are on top of the 725 announced by the subsidiary when the initial $2 billion investment was announced in March 2021.

The first phase of the plant is expected to open next year, with the expansion coming online early in 2028, Lars Petersen, the subsidiary’s president and CEO, told reporters. The batch of jobs announced Thursday will be created starting in 2027 and pay an average minimum wage of nearly $110,000, according to state officials.

Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, a contract manufacturer of drugs and vaccines for other pharmaceutical companies, already has a campus in nearby Research Triangle Park, where it employs hundreds of people.

Cooper said the expansion is the result of the state’s commitment to become the nation’s leader in life sciences, which he says statewide includes over 800 companies employing over 75,000 skilled workers.

“It’s pretty clear that North Carolina has become an advanced manufacturing powerhouse,” Cooper said at the announcement in downtown Raleigh, less than 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Holly Springs.

The news conference celebrated another capital injection by a Japanese corporate giant into North Carolina as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida prepared to arrive in the state late Thursday.

Kishida’s schedule on Friday includes visiting the Greensboro headquarters of Honda Aircraft Co. and where Toyota Motor Corp. is building its first North American electric and hybrid battery plant in Randolph County. Kishida’s U.S. visit already has included addressing a joint session of Congress and attending a White House state dinner.

“This is a state where our ties with Japan are growing, and we want to celebrate the economic, academic and cultural ties,” said Cooper, who will also host a luncheon for the prime minister on Friday at the governor’s mansion.

Fujifilm considered making what became Thursday’s investment in Singapore, as well as near its existing facilities in Denmark and in Ventura County, California, according to a state Commerce Department document.

State officials said the company could receive potentially more than $72 million in state and local incentives. A state committee earlier Thursday agreed to award nearly $15 million of those incentives through cash payments over 12 years if the company meets job retention and investment thresholds. The company also received an incentive package in 2021.

The new investment in Holly Springs, which will include additional bioreactors, will meet the growing demand for biological medicines, benefitting oncology, immunology and pandemic preparedness, Petersen said. Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies worked with Novavax to produce a COVID-19 vaccine.
